Funimation Positive Reviews
UI and problems with watching certain showsThe user interface is poor at best and completely broken at worst. I have issues with speed and connection even using a LAN connection and good internet speeds. This problem makes about half their library unavailable at any time and doesn't have any rhyme or reason for their failures. The download is slow and updates seem non-existent. After they bought VRV I hoped they would build off of VRV's perfectly good app and brand it funimation, but they took it the other way. New series they've recently gotten the rights to that are touted as great additions; I would agree they are great additions to their library, but none of them are actually available for me to watch, it just says come back and try later.
Broken system without hope for anything better since there is now a semi-monopoly on the anime streaming game by Sony and their terrible app.
If there was ANY alternative to Funimation's app on phone/tv/computer I would even pay them an extra couple dollars to fix their problems, but I wouldn't trust Sony at their word for all the (insert valuable item here) with respect to fixing problems. Funimation has sucked for years, now it is getting much, much worse. I expect not to be able to watch any of their new acquisitions this year, maybe they'll fix it by 2023?.Version: 2.3
Second reviewMy first review, over a year ago, was one of the most strict and brutal reviews I’ve ever written. The app was truly bad and the overall service sub par. After the update and reformatting, things have been over 9,000 times better. It’s much easier to use, the layout is more friendly. And they probably added more servers. Idk. Seems faster. Thankfully they decided to change it for their customers.
3 things though. 1 It would have been nice to know that there was an update on the way. Seeing as how it might have taken awhile to make. Knowing it ahead of time would have made being patient easier. 2 They say you can stream multiple devices, but if that’s true why not add multiple profiles so that my wife can watch her stuff and I can watch mine. If we are on the same show at different times it’s makes it difficult to pick up where I left easy. I’m feel that it wouldn’t be terribly hard to do that but I don’t format or program, so idk 3 if you are watching a show and want to continue where you left off I wish that clicking the show would take you to the details instead of playing. It sounds counter intuitive but that’s because when someone else is watching. The same show and I want to check what episode is up I gotta go find the show..Version: 2.4.0
It’s not that bad of an app but…I enjoy Funimation and it’s wide variety of anime although there are a few problems. First of all I don’t see a casting button on the new version of the app. I remember seeing one previously so it’s quite annoying that I can’t find it anymore in the newer version of the app. Another problem is the ads. I understand you need to make money but the ads don’t stay consistent. Whenever you try to watch an anime normally you get one ad before you begin to watch although sometimes you’ll get all five. And although it’s bothersome to sit through five ads that is not really a problem for me. One of my biggest problems is when I’m trying to watch this one dubbed anime (My Roommate is a Cat) the subtitles are turned on. I’m not a big fan of unnecessary subtitles so I turn them off but then I have to watch another five ads after turning off the subtitles. And every single time I stop watching and go back to that anime the subtitles are turned back on. I hope you can fix this issue or make the ads less. Because it is very bothersome to sit through five ads back to back just because I don’t want to watch an anime that I can understand the language of (English) with subtitles that the app puts on the show manually. Thank you for reading this and have a lovely day/night..Version: 2.4.0
Good but needs some improvementsI pay $5.99 a month for this app so I can any of the shows available to me without ads and so I can cast to my tv. The anime selection is better than Netflix and I don’t have to create a whole separate profile so my algorithm on Netflix doesn’t get ruined. However recently, I’ve noticed that while watching it’ll allow me to watch one or two episodes and then halfway through the second or third episode, it’ll boot me out of the app and force me to start the episode all over again. Since I cast this to the tv, I have to use wifi and I know my connection is good so it can’t be that and I don’t have this problem with any other app. If I’m going to be paying a monthly fee to use this app, I really ought to be able to ACTUALLY use it. Very frustrating to have to constantly reboot the app.
Edit: this bug has been fixed however a new one has popped up! Now I can’t cast in Japanese!! Like many anime fans, I strongly prefer watching in Japanese with English subtitles as English dub is super cringey. But now the app doesn’t let me do that while casting to Google Crome cast. Please for the love of all that is good in the world, FIX THIS BUG!!.Version: 2.3
Good but needs improvementOverall, I like the layout of the app, and it works great when I have a good WiFi connection.
My problems with Funimation are 1) why are there no profiles? If multiple people can be streaming at one time, why can’t there be multiple profiles, so everyone can have their own Queue AND keep track of what episode they are on? My brother and I have two very different tastes in Anime, and it would be nice to have my own profile with just the shows I want to watch. It would also be nice, because on the slim chance that we both want to watch the same show, I would like to be able to keep track of where I am at, instead of constantly being shown what episode my brother is on (because he watches more per day than me.)
2) I don’t understand why they don’t have a remote log out option. I feel like that would be the first thing a streaming service would make, incase an account got hacked, someone went on vacation or sold Xbox/PS/Etc and forgot to log out. Instead, I have to cancel my subscription, get a new email, and re-subscribe.
Every other streaming service I have/have used, have both of these services (profiles and remote log out), so I don’t understand why Funimation is being lazy and not providing its subscribers, aka THE PEOPLE GIVING THEM MONEY, with these (obviously user friendly) services. It makes no sense to me. If Funimation had these, I’d give it 7 starts out of 5, instead of 2..Version: 2.4.0
Please add Mexico as a region so I can watch more anime’sI love funimation so much! It’s a great app and I love that I can watch it in dubs. The quality is amazing and premium is so worth it. I would say funimation is way better then crunchy roll but the only problem is that I moved to Mexico a few days ago and I went onto funimation and it says “Funimation is not available in this region but we’re adding new regions all the time. Check back again soon!” So can you please add Mexico. The only reason I’m asking is because I LOVE THIS APP, ITS GREAT TO WATCH ANIMES but I have premium on there and it’s going to waste because the app doesn’t allow Mexico to use funimation so like I said can you please please, please add it! (On safari I searched up if Funimation allows Mexico to use the app and it said like “Funimation will be adding Mexico soon” which was in like 2020.” So please add Mexico as a region so I can watch more anime! 😄.Version: 2.1.0
Wow it’s improvedI’d like to start my stating that this is purely a review of the app itself, not content or the company. I have used the Funimation app for about three years now, and I must say that I am pleasantly surprised by how much improvement has been made over that time. About three years ago the app was unusable, quite literally. It often would simply stop working or close, along with general loading issues. I mean it when I at that literal pirating websites had better reliability than the app. BUT I am glad to say that has changed. The recent improvements are wonderful. The app looks nicer, no longer that terrible white background with the harsh sharp corners for everything, and the search aspect now works reliably. The app is useable and is good for everything I need. It lacks a lot of things in the quality of life department, but it seems they are currently prioritizing functionality over the good looks..Version: 2.4.2
Frequent app/server issuesI use both Funimation and Crunchyroll services. Both have a decent selection of good content, but in recent months the user experience is substantially better on Crunchyroll, after they improved their app and maybe the servers as well. The Funimation app is much more cumbersome to use, and it seems to suffer many more server-related issues, like frozen streams that require an app restart to clear, or subtitles freezing while video and audio continue. Recently, it also has been sometimes failing to display the episode lists for some random subset of my list. This comes and goes seemingly at random. Today it’s even failing to populate any data after it authenticates my account. Looks like some serious work needs to be done on server end….
Now that the services are merging, I’m hoping that the Funimation content will be moved to the Crunchyroll app and server infrastructure, rather than the opposite.Version: 2.2.2
It’s ok, I guess. As the title says it’s ok. I thought it was great at first I could watch all these anime’s. It was awesome. Till a few days later it starts like breaking down or something. I was stuck on a loading screen for like 3 hours, then once I got it to work it only worked for one episode. So I was back at point A. The loading screen. So I gave up and decided to re download it. But did that work.. nope, of course not. Finally I decided maybe I need to leave it alone for a bit. A few hours later I came back to a “Somethings not right click here to re-load” or something along those lines. So I kept pressing it, still not working. I was getting pretty angry cause I really wanted to finish an anime. Then I decided to leave it alone for a little bit again. I get back to it, still not working. I really don’t know what to do anymore I’ve tried on my computer my phone and my iPad. Nothing is working..Version: 2.2.2
Good but..Hey this is a good app to watch anime and all but I think the most problems I have is ads and pay walls. I get some things need paywalls but not most of the apps content. Like the demon slayer movie, I thought I could watch something like that for free on your app, which was one of the reasons why I got it not knowing I had to pay to see it. Kinda a let down sorry to say. But besides that, the ones that I can watch for free have a massive amount of ads, most of the time the ads repeat themselves back to back which can be annoying to most. I’ve noticed that when I accidentally close out the app completely and go back into the anime, I have to watch up to 5 ads just to continue where I left off. I don’t really thinks that’s fair, and it’s quite frustrating. Overall this is a good app, I just think you need to tone down on ads and paywalls is all. Hope you all have a good day!.Version: 2.3.3
Same old great content, but the newly redone app interface leaves much to be desired.I find the new app a usability nightmare that appears to have been spewn forth from a marketing and graphics team allowed to run amok. When streaming a show it’s now much more difficult to navigate between episodes/seasons or pop up show info. Lots of shows appear in the list with the new ridiculously oversized tiles using cover art that doesn’t contain the show name in a readable format. I’ve also found the new version buggier than the old. The Continue watching list frequently doesn’t update. I’ve experienced many more streaming errors and crashes with this redesign. Lots of Unable to connect and something went wrong errors as well. As a bonus, now with iPadOS 15 it’s gotten even bigger with the regular crashing when trying to play content..Version: 2.3
Really Great!I've had a premium subscription for months now and this streaming service is really great! It has a lot of long shows that I've been itching to watch (One Piece, Dragon Ball) and for the most part I've had no issues! However, I'm around episode 500 for One Piece and I can no longer watch the Japanese dub? I've tried to switch languages back, set my language preference, even tried resetting my phone, yet I can't change it back? It says the Japanese dub isnt available yet when you look at the episode in the list it says it is? I've never had any issues with this in the past, why is it starting now? It happened earlier (around ep 480) but it was only with 1 episode. I've tried skipping ahead in the show and every episode I've tried doesn't have a Japanese option. Is there a way to fix this?.Version: 2.1.0
Great streaming platform just a few flawsI like Funimation it’s a place with many and various titles to watch, I have a few problems when I try to skip multiple times in a episode or even rewind a few seconds. If I end up doing it over 3-4 times it doesn’t want to load so I have to exit out the episode and start it up again which isn’t a big deal just a minor inconvenience. Also, when I want to watch subbed anime it won’t let me change the language to japanese which is very strange and I can’t seem to find a fix for it and I like subbed so just not being able to access it is a real bummer, which is why I’m giving it a 3 star. Other than those two problems I have no complaints, I would just like those issues to be fixed in the future..Version: 2.1.0
Wish Dubbed Anime was it’s Own CategoryI am a big fan of Funimation and Crunchyroll. After it was released that they were going to merge I was actually excited. I wouldn’t have to login to two different apps or have to pay to different subscriptions. However, I haven’t heard any new news and I would really hate to be charged again for the two if they are supposed to be one. I like the anime that they carry but I really wished that their Dubbed anime was its own category like Action or Adventure are. Sometimes I don’t feel like reading subtitles. There is a lot of anime that shows up as dubbed when I look it up but actually isn’t. I’m assuming it’s a glitch? Either way, would really appreciate a news update on the merger and the new category. Thanks!.Version: 2.2.2
RequestI love anime and I really enjoy this app. There are a couple things I would like to see improvement on simply to make it an awesome app.
1. There needs to be some way for a user to contact the developer within the app. This may actually be Apple’s fault though, so it’s only a small mark against the app.
2. I would love to see a filtered view of my favorites. I am a week to week follower of a lot of current animes and I also have quite a few old favorites that I enjoy rewatching occasionally. There are currently no available filters that might allow me to better sort through my list of favorites. Possible filters that I can see as being useful would include ‘Recently Updated’ ‘Anime Type’ ‘Favorites’ ‘Most Recently Added’ etc…..Version: 2.2.1
Needs improvementsIt has a great selection of anime, but still needs a lot of improvements. For one, you can't use Picture in Picture to watch, and as someone who likes to watch anime and draw at the same time on my Ipad, it's pretty annoying. Another issue is not being able to remove watches from continue watching. Some shows I watched are still there and won't leave, or they stay there if I don't watch the OVA (which I usually prefer not to watch.) My final issue is regarding skipping recaps/intros. You can even get a preview while you try to skip so my best bet is skipping by 10 until I've gotten through the intro, something which is pretty tedious to do. Overall, great selection of subbed/dubbed anime but lacks basic show-watching abilities..Version: 2.4.2
STOP WITH ALL THE ADS 😞I honestly love funimation but.. I think that’s there are to many ads there should only be 2 ads and in those ads there’s even more which is why I don’t use funimation a lot because there’s a lot of ADS. If you’re gonna add ads at least use different ones I get tired of seeing the same ads 24/7 I’ve seen them so much that I’ve remembered everything they’ve said . Also I think that you should make some on the anime episodes premium, once I get to the good part I’ve been waiting for it says you have to be premium (idk if I’m saying it right lol) anyway.. what’s the point in making the beginning of the episodes not premium but the rest premium 😒. I am think about stop using funimation and going to Crunchyroll , please respond <3.Version: 2.3
Customer service??I purchased the $5.99 premium plan through my iPhone but could never get the benefits from it. I searched on many ways to figure out the situation on my own but couldn’t really find anything.
When I contacted customer service through email (twice), the first person didn’t help much but when their steps didn’t work I emailed them again and never got a response back. The second person that I emailed was more helpful but yet again when I replied to their email because the steps they gave me didn’t help either, I NEVER got a response back!
Honestly not worth it if you can’t get ahold of customer service in my opinion. Especially when they say to just reply to the their email to further assist you..Version: 2.2.1
Better than the website, but the website is terribleI subscribed for a while a few years ago and the app and website were both fantastic. Night and day compared to that other service. I resubscribed last year and was disappointed with the website but the app is still OK, it’s just more cluttered than it used to be with some issues if you use more than one device. Some issues: The queue isn’t in the same order as the website, but at least it loads in the app. The watch status doesn’t stay in sync between devices and you can’t refresh it. It eventually refreshes, but it makes device switching a pain..Version: 2.2.2
I like this appThis app is somewhat good. I was using a free plan at first but a couple days later of watching anime with ads I got tired so then I just played for the premium 9$ plan and it’s actually pretty good because I watched the demon slayer Mugen train for free on funimation and I like how this app works and it’s so simple to use. one of the bugs I would like them to fix is when you exit funimation while your watching and when you go back to funimation to the anime you were watching it restarts the whole episode and sometimes skips an episode it gets really annoying sometimes but it doesn’t bother me because it rarely happens. In conclusion I love funimation how it is :D.Version: 2.2.2
Pretty GoodTHIS APPS REAL GOOD! So I was trying to watch promised of the neverland season two so I decided to download this app and I’m Very Glad I did. Now I can watch some of the shows I want to! I guess my problem would be that I have to watch like 14 adds per video cause I’m not paying for premium and stuff And some of the shows aren’t all in English like when I was watching promised of the neverland some episodes were only in Japanese and I had to read the English subtitles but I don’t mind ig. over all it’s a pretty good app! So you should definitely get it so You don’t have to use those illegal websites if you know what I mean.Version: 2.2.0
Good, but not for travel.I’m not much of a big anime fan, so the amount of choices the app has is fine for me. There’s a bunch of popular ones, but I’m not sure about unpopular anime’s considering I haven’t dived too deep into it. Only reason I haven’t rated it “5 stars” is because when downloading episodes, they’re only available in Japanese. Not a big deal, but while watching these episodes on a plane, the app kept kicking me out every few minutes. I had been kicked out around 5 times before the middle break.
So, here’s a summary: Has a good selection of anime’s but not good for travel/ being offline..Version: 2.1.0
Great new update with slight problemSo first off I’ve been using Funimation since 8 years now and I love how it’s changed and developed over the years and I especially love the new update but there is one slight problem I’m having with it. The new double tap to skip for 10 seconds isn’t working so if I missed something instead of what the go back 10 seconds button there isn’t one and the new feature isn’t working so I’ve gotta skim through and hope not to go to far back I know it’s a small thing but it’s something I think needs to be fixed.Version: 2.2.2
Wonderful AppI would like to suggest just one thing, I have premium plus and I share it with my brother and Living mate. Due to this we usually watch the same shows and it gets in the way of everyone’s order. I would love if you guys started making profiles of Funimation so everyone’s viewing progress is separate and easy to navigate back to what you specifically like. I would also encourage cute icons as the profile pictures see as you guys rock. Thank you please make this happen.
-Happy paying customer.Version: 2.1.0
Overall a great app with a few … TicksI do enjoy the shows on here especially if it has been removed from VRV or is an exclusive but there are problems where sometimes, the video just refuse to load. Not a problem since it usually is fixed with a quick refresh by closing the app. I just wished there was a way to completely turn off the subtitles since I understand Chinese and there is no way to turn off English subtitles which just gets in the way… not sure why there isn’t a way to turn it off. Overall great, but not the best….Version: 2.4.0
Add a feature?I didn’t have any major issues with the app after months of using it. Occasionally I’ll have typical issues like needing to restart the app or something minor along those lines but that’s no different than any other streaming service I’ve had. I just wish there was a feature to create more than one profile just like any other streaming service. It’s annoying having other family members watching the same show and constantly have to figure out what episode I was on because someone else watched ahead..Version: 2.3
Love it, but..I love this app, its where I watch all my anime. The only problem is that it doesn't have all the anime I would like to watch. I would also really like it if we could have more people on one account, kinda like Netflix. My brother wants to watch anime but we don't want to pay for 2 accounts, so I let him on my name. It would be amazing if that was changed. There are also only subtitles for certain episode or anime in general. I like to have subtitles to understand what there saying, and so I pay attention more. Other then that I absolutely love this app!.Version: 2.2.2
Amazing app!!So, I've had this app for about 4 months and it's so easy to use! There's a lot of animes to watch in sub and dub! It's basically crunchy roll but it doesn't have as many animes. However, Funimation is one of the only streaming services where you can watch Demon Slayer Mugen Train, Sk8, etc. I was looking at the comments for this app and I don't understand why it's getting so much hate. It's a great app and does NOT log you out of the app while your watching animes. I love Funimation and I highly recommend it for fellow anime watchers!.Version: 2.3.2
SMHWhy does the app keep crashing sometimes it just won’t load when it does it takes like 10 years I have a premium subscription so I use it on my phone and my Xbox the app crashes or sometimes doesn’t load and this happens a lot to me please fix it.Version: 2.2.2
Lovin it!My only desire for it is that you can use it in Picture and Picture mode on IPhone.Version: 2.2.2
Funimation is great!I have premium plus monthly and I think it’s honestly great. The app can be a little stiff sometimes and the interface is nothing like Netflix’s but it has basically every anime, and in dubbed and it saves progress, recommends episodes, and more. I only think that they should upgrade their interface by making it more smooth and add better security features. Once someone is in your account, they can change your email and password with little to no verification. Also, there is no way to kick someone off your account so chose a secure password and don’t give your account to others. I didn’t have any trouble with ads and the Laptop app is waaaaayyy better by the way..Version: 2.2.2
WhyIt would be nice if there wasnt any premium only episodes.Version: 2.3.3
Works flawlessly across many devices!I can’t see why so many people are complaining. I have used Funimation on many devices from my iPad, smart tv, Amazon firestick and occasionally my smartphone. I pay for the cheapest membership and never have I experienced troubles with this service..Version: 2.2.2
SwitchHello when are u going to put funemation for everyone and not just premium Accounts?.Version: 2.2.2
0 problems with the app (I have premium)If you don’t pay premium there is of course going to be ads. I my self pay the premium monthly and I absolutely love it 😍. It’s basically Netflix but all anime. I originally downloaded it just to watch Attack on Titan but then I got really addicted to a few other anime’s. I definitely recommend this app if you love to watch anime..Version: 2.2.1
I enjoyed itSo I see the reviews about adds but for some reason I don’t have any and it has some of my favourite anime dubbed so it gets 5 stars.Version: 2.1.0
GreatI love this app but the subtitles are off timing when I download videos..Version: 2.1.0
Fantastic library of subbed and dubbed contentGreat app that has gotten better over time. 100% worth a paid subscription.Version: 2.1.0
ReviewGuys Funimation is really good you forgot it’s like Netflix u have to subscribe to get bet quality that’s why there are so many adds😩.Version: 2.1.0
LoveThey updated the layout n it’s cuter now. nice variety of anime.Version: 2.1.0
YasssssI only like it bc it has demon slayer and that’s my fave anime it has a lot of ads even in the middle of the intro and STOP GIVING ME FORTNIGHT NARUTO ADS.Version: 2.4.0
Well..I don’t love it because most anime’s only have the English dub for free on the first to episodes unless you have premium and I swear to god there are 18+ adds in a 20 minute episode I hate the adds i understand why there there but 18+ adds?! That’s excessive.Version: 2.3.3
Audio/Subtitle out of syncDownloaded videos have their audio and subtitles out of sync..Version: 2.3.1
AwesomeDon’t listen to the liars this is better than any other anime thing.Version: 2.3.3
This app is greatThis app is great I love it mainly use this for one piece that app works great It has a lot of variety the only reason I didn’t give the app 5 stars is cause it doesn’t support picture-in-picture.Version: 2.3.2
Best app for anime I have tested so farThis app has the cheapest premium plan and even has a lot more Anime’s then most apps on the App Store , I find this app the best app for starting anime and for even experienced anime fans, all of my friends are on this app and we always have something new to say about an anime on Funamation..Version: 2.3.1
Great but…This app is great I love it but I feel like some anime’s are missing.I would like it if you added “no game no life” or “Haikyuu”.Thanks!.Version: 2.3.1
Alrigjt all all the top reviews are posersThis app is Good for streaming however… sometimes their subtitles lag and lag HUGELY. other than that it’s hella boss cept for the fact that tpn season 2 ever aired.Version: 2.3.1
EhIt’s ok and It definitely has some of my favourite anime, but for a lot of shows you have to pay to watch or you can only watch the first episode for free. Also WAY to many ad breaks.Version: 2.3.1
