Favorite Mastodon AppFeels like the most complete mastodon app out there! It’s definitely the one I use with the most ease and has almost all the features I find useful. Would like to see the ability to re-hide sensitive media once opened though, like you can do on the mastodon web app. Right now you can only re-hide CWs, but sometimes sensitive image posts don’t always have CWs. Once I open a sensitive image and then scroll past it or better yet, switch tabs, I’d like it to automatically be hidden again, should I have my settings set to “always hide sensitive media”. I’m on an instance where unflagged sensitive media should be reported, and the current format makes it hard to distinguish between images i’ve clicked on vs not properly flagged ones. A great Mastodon client which prioritizes the comfort and safety of its usersThe Mastodon social network is a great place to interact with people (especially fellow members of marginalized communities), but like any federated form of social media it is difficult to prevent certain people from trying to make it unsafe. I am glad that Toot! uses a bunch of approaches to keep its users safe, such as making it easy to switch instances, being respectful of post privacy settings, and making it possible to avoid interactions with people through the blocking system. There are also some great quality-of-life features like the zen “relax” mode and some fun Easter eggs, and the developer is incredibly responsive to bug reports and feature requests. This app makes Mastodon a delight to use. My only complaints would be that it’s a bit harder than necessary to tune which notifications come up on my lock screen..Fluffy <3Version: 1.9.0

Complete, anti-fascist Mastodon appThis app is user-friendly and has all the features I need to use mastodon. I didn’t get it at first because I’m very broke but when the first app I was using left the App Store I decided to spring for it and I’m glad I did. It’s customizable, you can log in to multiple instances at once, and I love that it blocks Gab. I hope it continues to be as accessible and hate-free as possible. The only suggestions I would have would be: 1) add custom emojis. I know this has been requested previously and I’m pretty sure the developers said it might happen eventually but it really would be awesome to be able to access my instance’s emojis from the app! My First Mastodon Mobile AppI joined Mastodon a few weeks ago and immediately went to look for an app for my mobile devices. I discovered Toot! and I find the app delightful to use. It’s really well done, especially for the price, free. Everything works as expected and any use of the app that didn’t work was because it was dodgy WiFi or CloudFlare having connectivity issues with some Mastodon instances I have accounts with. I’ve never had a fault with the app, and I use it regularly. I am writing this review because there are other reviews in place that have nothing at all to do with the app and have everything to do with political arguments. This review space is to review the application itself. The author has done a fantastic job, and if you need a Mastodon app, this one will not let you down. Alright app with slightly batty devsIt does it’s job well, in fact it’s probably my favorite client app thus far. However while I do appreciate the option they included to “”Filter Awful Survers, filter out any toot originating from a white supremacist server. (Currently, only Gab.)”” I personally dislike how it’s automatically selected. It almost felt as if they were trying to parent us and say what we are and aren’t allowed to view using the app. I would have rated this app higher if it weren’t for them quite literally pushing their views (That you can turn off after going through the settings.) onto us. Nice, but could be so much betterWhen I bought this app, it was one of the best at the time. It is such an impressive change of UI thinking that is really nice once you poke around to figure things out. Now, it is lagging behind, and the developer seems to have just given up. It lacks media playback control, still crops images to 16x9. I understand that the developer has an opinion for not including notifications, and I respect that. However, not everyone holds that opinion, and if we pay for things there is a certain level of expected minimum features. Mostly Terrific but One Persistent IssueI love most things about this app and enjoy it more than the other apps available right now. Thoughtful interface, robust functions, dependable and easy to use. And I like that it collects none of my data. The one persistent issue I’ve had is with loading older toots. I usually scroll long enough to reach the Load Older Toots button. When I hit it, how it loads is a crap shoot. Sometimes it’s perfect, loading the next most recent batch of toots. But as often as not, it jogs down to where I’d left off in my previous session and loads the oldest of the toots I haven’t yet seen. Doesn’t matter which timeline I’m in—home, local, or federated. The most fun mastodon client available!I love Toot! more than any other Mastodon app on iOS. I still find myself using the Metatext app for a couple of key features that I think Toot! is missing. Firstly, being able to sort profiles for “Media” posts is an essential part of using Mastodon for engaging with artists. Metatext has that option right at the top of every profile, but Toot! doesn’t seem to have any equivalent feature. It’s also a bit difficult to share images using Toot! since there is no feature to pull up albums. I sort my photos into albums and share them on Mastodon, but the only way to share images on Toot! is by finding them in chronological order, so it can be hard to pick out the correct images. Overall I think Toot! is a gorgeous app and it very clear that the folks behind it have put a lot of work into making it a very smooth and fun experience. I still keep the Metatext app installed, but I’m very grateful for all of the more modern features that Toot! includes that Metatext still hasn’t gotten around to adapting..AshLumiVersion: 17.1

Some basic UX issues for scrollingPlease just add infinite scrolling on "now" without the suboptimal "show more" features below: 1. Selecting "show more" is really easy to miss, and I have to press it all the time as I scan down the feed. 2. Once you miss pressing "show more" the units shift from "Xm" to "Ymn" which I assume is supposed to mean months, typically mo and hard to see either way. The unit is actually useful here but not standard. Consider "min" and "mo" or "m" and "months". 3. Scrolling back up to find "show more" is quite easy to miss, so much that I start to look for the splitting point where the top right units shift from "mn" back to "m" 4. Confusing mechanic where the direction you show more from is based on where you came from, so when you overshoot (always), you then have to scroll back, next you have to slightly go forwards again to reorient the direction you want to scroll. 5. Oh sorry, you accidentally hit "show more" the wrong direction. Please progress back to step 3, scroll up hunting for the seam, and try again. Otherwise no complaints but this kills the core usability for me..Works...Version: 21.1

Does not support following hashtagsNo support for following hashtags (that I can find) is a dealbreaker for me. Unfortunately, that appears to be a problem across most of the Mastodon apps for iOS. However, what the app does support is laid out nicely. The ability to easily view the timelines of other instances is also well done. The developer also appears to be very responsive. Near perfect appI’ve been using Toot! (after trying other apps) for nearly two years and LOVE it. It does (almost) everything I could ask for as a Mastodon/Fediverse user, and it does it without any apparent bugs. The one exception is not limiting posts to a specific designated language — unless I just can’t find that setting. Good w some bugsOverall, good app. I like being able to use multiple servers easily, in my case a ‘standard’ mastodon instance and pixelfed. The problem w using this app for pixelfed is that I get favorite and boost counts below each post, but not the little round profile pic w link as I do for my other server account. Lovely app.This makes browsing Mastodon more pleasant. It has a quick and easy way to switch accounts, but I wish they had the option to change it from being on the right to being on the left. Some issues with Voiceover.I use the voiceover screenreader on my phone. When I tap on the button to make a new toot, nothing happens. Nice and seamless but…I’ve been comparing Mastodon apps all day and decided to try toot! I’m not sure I’ll keep using mostly because: -Words instead of symbols for comments, boosts, and likes. Words are visual clutter and the brain works hard to constantly process them. There’s nothing wrong with simple symbols. -Ability to see # of boosts and likes when scrolling. You may say that’s not important, but that’s pushing your views on others. The option to toggle it on or off would be nice. -Automatically displaying replies without the option to turn them off. Hope you're still trucking along to include new features; filters can be opened/closed like CW now, and have the key word shown. Not a fan of the wheel to change timelinesI enjoy using Toot except the wheel to change timelines. I often use the phone in my left hand and can’t reach the wheel on the right with my thumb. Toot! for Mastodon Negative Reviews

Not my appPurchased and tried Toot! for a couple weeks, but have too many complaints and went back to my old fav app. Some are personal preference, some are more general, but the gripe list includes: No swipe actions on posts in timeline (eg left to star, right to reply). Many excessive animations that can’t be turned off. UX customization options are low in general. Post privacy isn’t easy to see in the timeline. When creating a new post, I have to scroll a page length down for privacy and CW options, causing me to forget them regularly. “Load more” system doesn’t make sense to me - hard to find posts between now and last logon. Would like to see it work more like Mastoot. Gives 3 options to create a toot (text, image, video) when I really just want a text box with some nearby media upload buttons. Solid Mastodon client with some glaring annoyancesProbably the biggest annoyance being that the issue link is broken - looks like the author migrated off GitHub (good move!) but forgot to update the support link in the app itself.
