Spend Stack: Budget Tracker App Comments & Reviews

Spend Stack: Budget Tracker Positive Reviews

Excellent AppI have been using this app now for about a week and finding that it’s a joy and useful utility. I love how it asks you if it can use your location in order for it to find the sales tax for your list. This is very helpful when you don’t know it or want to confirm what you believe it to be. I actually knew it and the app was able to reinforce the sales tax amount in my region. It even gave me the location in which I was in when figuring the sales tax automatically. Nice! I had some ideas about future features for the app and contacted the developer. I got a prompt response the following day. This is also a big thumbs up since users want to feel confident that their outreach is not falling in the round file pile. Another feature that I like is the sharing options and the recipient’s ability to add or change things if the option to have the user ( s ) perform this is enabled. This can also be disabled at anytime. Sweet! Adding an image to your list is a beautiful thing as well. All in all I think this app has got a wonderful start and looking forward to its development. I would definitely recommend this app for anyone wishing to add details regarding cost and other items which this app is packed with..Version: 1.0.3

Exactly What I NeededI really enjoy using Spend Stack and learned about it after listening to the Launched Podcast. It is an incredibly useful activity to monitor expenses and have special lists for different types of expenses. The UI is great, the app is simple and intuitive and has already helped me out immensely. One thing I would like to suggest is the ability to split the cost between multiple people. For example, being able to use it to track shared bills if living with other people to see how much each person would have to pay for monthly rent. I track several shared expenses and right now I calculate it manually and put the number as a note to remember, but I think it would be a great option to be able to show split payments. I appreciate all the hard work of the developer and would love to see this app continue to be a part of my daily workflow..Version: 1.1.11

Outstanding App. !!Spend stack is not simply just a list maker, it’s much, much more than that. It actually lets you know just “how much” you’re spending. Once you enter in an items cost; sales tax is applied automatically, so it takes the guesswork out of what your final bill will be. Use “tags,” and you can group all similar items together. The developer is continually making improvements, and now you can add a photo to items in case you might need it for your next shopping trip. In addition, lists and info. sync. across multiple devices making it even more handy. Customer service is excellent; questions get answered usually within 24 hours. All things considered, this app. Is definitely worth having. I highly recommend it!.Version: 1.1.9

New User-Love ItI’m still pretty new to this app and I’m still discovering features—using weights for produce and discounts are nice features I’ve recently tried—but so far this app is really powerful and easy to use. I might look like a dork using it in the store, but the truth is I struggle with mental math (esp. when sales tax, discounts, or quantity by weight are involved) so I’ve always just guessed at my running total while shopping—not ideal for keeping spending under control. My wife is a bit of a Luddite and is also very good at mental math, so we haven’t collaborated on a list yet (maybe someday) but for my own use, this is an excellent app..Version: 1.0.8

Excellent app to track Apple CardWith the latest update it’s super easy to import the Apple Card CSV file. I also find it tags purchases in the right categories during import for me. So much better than using a spreadsheet. The recurring or subscription feature is also great. The only objection I had was that it didn’t sort the items in the list by date so I had to manually slide them in the order I wanted. I emailed the developer and apparently sorting lists is coming soon. Overall this is an excellent app to use. It is well designed..Version: 1.2.2

Has potentialGoing through the app it has potential with a bug here and there with graphs and all. I would love to see some features added like multi tagging. Manual and per purchase tax rate for where you are at that moment you enter an item (very useful when living on a state line). And also linking so you can have a bills list and add or link a bill to your weekly or monthly spend tracking without needing to re-enter all info that is in an already made item in bills. Out side of some suggestion ideas this has a possibility to be a great app that I’ll use a lot..Version: 1.3.4

Best option for envelope style budgetingConverted over from EveryDollar. Was tired of the bloat and unused features, and slow updates. Spent hours looking for the right budgeting app. Am not thrilled to link my bank account since I like the privacy and the need to document every purchase myself. SPEND STACK answered all of my needs and more (hello dark mode and widgets)! I’m eager to learn how much more in depth I can go. Do yourself the favor and buy this app. The developer puts out lots of updates and is a class act (see his posts on Reddit)..Version: 1.3.2

Such a great appI think I download a budgeting app every other day and every time I delete it after a week because they’re either aesthetically unpleasant, lack of features, etc. This app really helped put it into perspective how much I spend. I absolutely love the tag system, it shows I spend way too much on clothes or eating out. Plus it just looks clean and pleasing to the eyes. If it had a donate button, I’d chip in extra for how valuable it has become..Version: 1.1.9

Finally! A good budgeting app!!I am so glad I found this!! I have been wanting a decent budgeting app for years and someone finally got it right. The lists make grocery trips suuuper easy and less stressful. Very user friendly and no bugs or glitches. I will be using this a long time. Well worth the 4.99! You won’t be disappointed. Managing my budget is a lot less stressful with this app..Version: 1.0.1

Excellent Budget TrackerJust needed something simple and easy that doesn’t require an account or collect data. Thank you! My one request would be the ability to drag and drop the “+” button over the category/tag you want to add a new data entry for..Version: 1.3.4

NEARLY PerfectEverything is as advertised and works very well! Coming from a non-professional who just wants to keep track of my expenses, this app was the simplest in terms of just keeping track of stuff. HOWEVER: there is one “advice” that might be helpful: Make tags inside the lists organizable (i.e. can move new tags to the top of the list and so on). Thank you developers if you read this..Version: 1.2.6

Update fixed my issues- review amendedAmended review Aug 2nd. Ads are gone with today’s update. Looking forward to checking out the new features. I don’t do ads. You’ve violated any trust I have in you. I know you have to make a living but this is not the right answer.Version: 1.4.2

I highly recommend Spend StackI searched for a budget app that would fit my needs, and I found Spend Stack. I’ve used it for more than a year and it has helped me keep my finances on track. Customer service is the best. Fast responses. Download this app and give it a try. You won’t be sorry..Version: 1.2.3

Intuitive and well polishedThe app is extremely easy to use. It looks great. It works great. The developer is very responsive to feedback. Being able to easily create categories of items that include sales tax and discounts is an awesome feature..Version: 1.0.3

GreedyUpdate: amending review to update rating. They fixed the issue, however, I’m still removing one star for the subscription fatigue ptsd moment you’ve graced me with lol. ———————— Yeah dude I didn’t pay for an app with ads and limitations. I paid for it with the promise of a certain feature set and user experience. You can’t just go and change what I paid for AFTER the fact. Bait and switch is dirty. I love how all these apps just screw the same people that made them popular by giving good ratings and sharing with friends, but alas greed always wins, who cares about early adopter loyalty, right?.Version: 1.4.2

An Absolutely Solid, Useful AppVery thoughtfully made, smooth and easy to use, feature-rich in a way that is easy to understand. I will be using it for all of my budgeting in the future!.Version: 1.3.6

Budget help! Thanks to spend stack I now have my budget in control instead of the other way around! I have tried other budgeting tool before but they were too complicated . Spend Stack is easy to use and it works!.Version: 1.2.6

This App is a MUST! 🤩What a helpful app! It’s a really handy way to keep track of numerous lists, with or without tax- among devices and family members! If you’re looking for something that keeps a running total, this app is a must! 🤩.Version: 1.1.9

Simple, very useful appThis app is a simple idea, and simple to use, but surfaces insights that were not obvious to me. It’s useful and helpful. Well worth the small cost, and more importantly, worth the time to use..Version: 1.3.4

Great app, great pricingSpend Stack handy for shopping, for planning, for budgeting, etc. Developer friendly, responsive, makes updates regularly. The more I use the app, the more I like it. Give it a try!.Version: 1.1.7

Debits and creditsJust what I needed to track my Apple Card on the fly for expenses that I need to track outside of my own stuff. Also let’s you credit amounts so the running log stays accurate and clean..Version: 1.3.6

Caring Developer / Great appThe developer actually contacted me months after a featured request, to let me know the feature had been implemented! Very impressed with the app and the developers professionalism!.Version: 1.1.5

So helpful! It’s a great help to be able to quickly create lists and tabulate totals on the go!.Version: 1.2.6

It is very goodApp does very good job at what it does. But it is lacking main feature, transaction date or entry date. We can use this to sort spend. Please add ASAP. Thanka.Version: 1.2.3

Amazing appThis is a great app for tracking subscriptions, bills and all your other purchases. Great job with this app..Version: 1.2.2

Great alternative to WunderlistCheck out this app if you used Wunderlist for personal fin. Hard working devs on this project..Version: 1.2.6

Great app, great supportVery dedicated developer who deserves credit for such a private and useful app. Definitely recommend..Version: 1.1.6

Loving it!This app is great. It is beautiful and easy to use. It has replaced my usual manual lists to keep track of budgets..Version: 1.1.10

Wish for pdf files attachments.Love this app.Version: 1.4.7

Great but...I can’t make entries on my iPad Pro. It works great otherwise..Version: 1.3.4

Amazing app but suggestions belowFirstly, I love your app Jordan. It’s great and makes my life easier. I have some suggestions to ponder over, and see if it’ll be a good fit to the app: 1. Add filtering for dates within the lists. So within a list, I should be able to filter expenses between July 1st to July 15th for example. And the list will look exactly the same as it does today, but with only the expenses that match that. This way, I can have ONE yearly budget list, rather than 12 separate lists. I can then just always filter by the current month to see my progress on this month, but at the end of the year, be able to see my yearly statistics! And even maybe filtered the charts by month! 2. Allow sorting in the list by date. Please allow sorting so that the older entries are above the more recent entries. 3. Have tutorials for all the neat shortcuts that you have in the app. Maybe a quick and dirty YouTube video that just goes over the little shortcuts, like multi-select, or drag and drop. Thank you! :) Update 10/19/2020: aww thank you for the kind note! As an iOS developer myself, huge props and respect to you for this seriously really amazing app. I don’t know how you did it. Not only is the app so well done, but the design is incredibly usable. Also, your Twitter is dope. Keep it all up..Version: 1.3.2

No checkbox totals! There's one missing feature I was concerned about. The checkboxes do not make any difference to the total. I'd like to see the total in $ for: 1) Items that have been checked 2) All items Otherwise a wonderful application with what appears to have a great community and support..Version: 1.0.4

Really good; it can be better.I really like this app. I purchased it because I wanted to track and save all of my business supplies and my diary spends on food and things like that. Besides that, I wanted to save my Amazon Prime and Spotify Premium subscriptions in one folder so I can know how much I spend. The missing thing is that I really wish that the app has a “Reminder Feature” which it can remind you when you need to pay your monthly/weekly subscriptions, so in that way I know when I need to have the money ready. That is a missing feature that I’m looking forward to use, but is not available. I think it could be good for me and a lot of people that have a lot of subscriptions and need an reminders to pay them (You can always use the iOS Reminders app, but I paid $3.33 for this app so I think it should be something that comes default). Besides that, everything is good, apart from the keyboard lagging sometimes when I type a quantity..Version: 1.3.4

Solid idea, mostly good executionWhile I very much appreciate this app for its straightforward pricing and iCloud privacy (over a custom account solution), there are some annoyances and issues. On iPad there are occasional glitches when selecting lists, sometimes no items appear. When changing the tax rate of a list on my phone, the change causes the iPad app to crash. Some buttons are symbols at times, then words at other times which can add up to be slightly confusing (the pencil edit button above lists, then sometimes instead it has the word “Edit”) The UI is simple and clean, but doesn’t do much to show you how to use it. It might help to have demo lists available much like how Things from Cultured Code works. It’s not immediately clear how the app is intended to be used, for example, the promo photos show headers in lists, it took a bit of searching to determine that those are made with tags. It also wasn’t clear how to apply extra details (like a recurring expense) when adding items. I now know you can do that after adding items by tapping them but it’d be nice to have the option to apply these additional settings while adding items. There also isn’t a clear understanding of how lists account for weekly/monthly cycles. Groceries for example, I’m not sure how this is supposed to work in the long run, I suppose I’ll find out as I use the app but it’d be more comforting to understand how the app works with regards to time before putting all my info in. (To the dev, I write these because I like the app! I hope these notes might help some!) I love the confirmation notification drop downs when making changes, it helps to understand that the action completed successfully. To a slightly different angle, I’d really like a way to use a list within another list. For example, I’d like to put my groceries in a grocery list then refer to that total in my weekly and monthly budget lists. More a feature request than anything (unless this is available and I’m missing how to do it). That might also be possible in a folder type style too, but it’d be great to not repeat totals from lists in multiple areas. All in all, while with its flaws, this is a solid app with some rough edges in terms of usability and UX consistency but its focus and simplicity is a refreshing change from cluttered finance apps that want to monetize your personal data..Version: 1.2.2

It’s an ok list manager. It has some nice user functions such as iCloud sync. But I’d argue other functions are only somewhat useful for a “spend” manager. The biggest downside is that you have to manually add everything to the list. For a few items that’s ok. But to be truly useful it should accept and parse shared pages from amazon and other sites, as well as keeping the URL to the items. having sales tax is nice but it asks for location foe every list created. That seems unnecessary, or have a default locale. Hopefully these functionalities will be added soon to make this app far more useful than it currently is..Version: 1.2.2

Very nice Spending Tracker, but missing a few key thingsLike the idea of this app and where it’s going, but wish it had a few more features. Developer responsive. Interacting with them. Missing features - Stack needs a Checkbox baseline or “default” for “Include % Discount” eq X% off and “Include Amount Discount” eq -X.yz off - No visibility of underlying data on a Checkbox item. After adding an item, you can then tap on a item to add a lot of additional related information, but there is limited indication of this additional data or visibility on the overall list. More columns of data or data sublime under main line??? - Checkbox items can’t have more than one Tag? Tags are descriptions or keywords. Why can’t we use more? - Tags are allowed with colors but aren’t showed with Checkbox items themselves??? Yet are listed in a lower area as an additional lists by color or tag??? - Needs separate multiple discount options for 1) Manufacturer Coupon $Dm off, 2) Store Coupon $Ds off, 3) Volume Discount Qty:V $Dv off (eq Buy 5 Save $5 or $1off Each), and 4) Store Discount Dp% off (where Dp is item specific, not list specific) eq employee or club discount - Could auto calculate a Cost Per Unit Measure. Eq if “Bacon” is $8 for 1.5 lb and you enter Measure Qty:_24_ Units:_oz_, it could calc 8/24 and show $0.333/oz base, then ideally also show a calculated one with all discounts and % off applied. - No Exports (TAB, CSV, or XLS etc for spreadsheets otherwise ???) only export seems to be PDF or Print (Text not very useful. ) - No Imports. Eq Allow user to import a TAB delimited file. For a Grocery List, columns for item_description, amount/price, checked?Y/N, tax?Y/N, discount?Y/N, tag(s), notes, etc. Show required fields order for your app or allow user to map/rearrange fields between your app and the fields within the file. Ask user whether to skip first row from file or not, ie to exclude column/fields titles/names as first record or data set. The “list name” could initially default to file name and immediately prompt the user to rename it or accept/commit it. - No dark mode override..Version: 1.1.9

Very well designed appOnly glitch is I don’t k kw how to make use of it. 🙂 It seems more focused on budgeting. I entered all the details to get an idea of the monthly cash flow. It seems a little cumbersome to use this app for such use cases..Version: 1.4.7

Doesn’t sync between iOS devicesI have been using Spend stack for awhile and it worked great. Not sure if there was an update but now my lists do not sync between my iPhone and iPad.Version: 1.3.4

Amazing App, developer listens SUPERBI really love this, helps me keep track of my life, and my many subscriptions, I was hoping for the feature to be available in canada to calculate sales tax, I asked, and you listened, thank you and look forward to seeing what comes next..Version: 1.2.4

Loving it!Keep up the great work, Jordan!.Version: 1.2.2

Amazing. Beautiful details.I’ve been looking for something like this for so long. I’ve been using Notes to share grocery lists and other things with my wife, and it was fine but it was very limited in what we could do with it. Spend Stack pretty much nails it, and does it in a gorgeous package!.Version: 1.0.1
