Snowflake Weather App Comments & Reviews

Snowflake Weather Positive Reviews

This is a weather app to watchFor the reviewer who "Can't recommend this app' That is a fair assessment and opinion, but other things should be considered, besides just price. Remember, price is relative to value. I love a good idea when I see one and want to support further versions in this direction. I have the other apps you have mentioned (have deleted NOAA, not because it was necessarily bad app, but it didn’t meet my needs as I understood more of what I wanted.) Your observations on these apps are correct. But it remains to be seen if this apps will have subsequent versions or designs. This is just version 1.0 of Snowflake Weather, and it's all about design. The weather data is the same or the one constant, regardless of the app. I think this app has a good design approach and I want to support it to see where it goes. As weather apps go... This is a solid contribution that definitely tries to establish a point of view, rather than being an 'also ran.' I also like that the developer is up front with costs and you can cancel at anytime. I have no social or financial associations with this company or the developer. Currently I like MyRadar. But tastes change plus, it depends on your preference or how much you want to know about the weather. These are some of the other things that I feel should be taken into consideration, instead of just price..Version: 1.0

Background Refresh NeededI want to like this app — and do except for one failing that I think the developers ought to be able to fix. Unlike other apps like Accuweather, I can’t get Snowflake to update on my watch without touching it. I can’t just glance and trust I’m seeing the latest. So I checked the iPhone settings to see if I had Background App Refresh switched on and discovered there’s no setting to do so. Apparently Snowflake can’t update in the background, so naturally the watch display won’t likely be accurate. Fix this — plus add Notifications — and you’ll get 5 stars. I like the rest. Graphics are great on the watch and phone. The annual subscription doesn’t bother me. The Weather Channel is almost $10. All in all good start, but there’s a few critical improvements needed..Version: 1.0

IStatMenus wonderful weather app, now on you iPhone or iPadI have been using iStatMenus since version 1 and have found it indispensable utility. Now you can get that wonderful weather app on you iPhone or iPad. The app shows a lot of info in one single page with very simple and intuitive menu. Best of all no adds nor tracking as most other weather apps. The app is very intuitive and has a lot of data well-organized. Need to purchase pro version for weather maps and a few customization features. I prefer to pay this developer than to use the supposedly free apps that mine your data, location, contacts, and other priceless personal information just to save a few dollars. At least with this app, others are not making money out of my personal information..Version: 1.0

Great weather app. Cannot understand bad reviews. Are you kidding me? The detail that has gone into this app is truly impressive… the only reason I can see for negative reviews is the baffling greed and entitlement culture regarding mobile applications. People expect apps to just be free, and for app developers to just pay the bill for constant API calls to services that supply real-time data. Well let me tell you something, kids… it doesn’t work that way. Designing, building, testing, and maintaining a quality application takes painstaking hours, money, risk… and quality ones cost money. A SMALL AMOUNT when you think about it. Anyway, I won’t coBrunei to rant… I just felt like I needed to say something. Amazing work from Bjango on this (as usual) Love it!.Version: 1.30

Great New Widgets! This is my fifth favorable review of Snowflake. I love this app. It’s my go-to weather app for a quick, accurate summary of the outlook. Everything about this app is thoughtfully conceived and well executed! The volume of information is tremendous, the user interface is top notch, and the graphics are tremendous. As if all this were not enough, just recently, the developer added 11 great stackable widgets for iOS 14. These widgets are the best among the major weather apps. Please note: The negative reviews written by others are hugely unjustified, and likely written by those who do not understand data. This is a five-star app. If you are “into” serious weather information, this app is the one for you. It’s well worth the price. Strongly recommend..Version: 1.30

Great so farI have been a long time user of Weather underground, so I have been looking for a replacement weather app. I found snowflake from listening to Renee Ritchie on MacBreak weekly. So far I am loving the design, especially the hourly view that’s complete with precipitation chances and temperature. I do not mind paying for the app or subscription as I was doing the same for weather underground for around the same price. Their app is charging 20 bucks a year now which is crazy. Things I would like to see would be the ability to select my personal weather station as a source and the ability to scrub through the radar with a slider. Thanks for making a great app so far..Version: 1.0

I only care about Widget. As a widget buyer I expected more of this app. Firstly the name of location/city has not shown on the widget. Secondly the font size of widget is very small I wish it was selectable like the app itself and the same request for weather icons as well. Thirdly please add AQI. To be honest it is a beautiful and useful widget but will be completed with fixes above. I don’t subscribe it yet and don’t know those widget opinions are cool or not. Edit: OK, I bought one year subscription and OMG. I’ve paid 5 more bucks to see the name of location on my widget?!!! This is not really fare, is it? And one year?! I though it could be forever! This is not really fare, is it? Just release a new update for selectable font and icon size of widget. Another problem I noticed was about seeing Error on widget when there is no connection after awhile. You should add auto-update whenever connected to the internet on Widget. And never forget AQI on widget. Bug finder: AccuWeather doesn’t work at all. Try to switch “current location” between sources and you will see there is nothing change for..Version: 1.1

Very detailed weather app with one problemIf you look at some of the reviews there are complaints about paying twice. I agree with this. The initial 4.99 payment should include the first year of service(s) after which you pay the additional 4.99 for maps, etc. I feel this was kind of a money grab. The developer has you pay 4.99 to get the app and then you need to pay an additional 4.99 for other options. Getting the app itself should be free and then 4.99 for optional benefits. 3/5 stars for now since it’s such a robust weather app. Would give it 5/5 if the initial 4.99 payment included the first year of all services..Version: 1.0

Good start, but needs more work to become best in classAs others have said, I got this after listening to Rene Ritchie on Macbreak Weekly. My go to weather app is Dark Sky, and I was curious if Snowflake approaches the capabilities of Dark Sky. I found good things in Snowflake, but the one place it needs more work is with looking at daily forecasts. I am an active retiree, and like to see daily forecast presented visually to plan my outdoor activities. Dark Sky provides a visual indicator of temperature ranges that allows for a very quick comparison from day to day. This would be a much desired feature in Snowflake. I am a premium subscriber and look forward to improvements..Version: 1.0

Crashes on startup maybe every 5th timeMostly fine, works well, seems to have a different source for weather data than Apple’s weather app. accurate enough for my needs. my problem is that about every fourth or fifth launch/relaunch, the app will lock up for ~45 seconds or so and then drop me back at the springboard like nothing happened. if i launch it again, it opens quickly and correctly. been like this for a LONG time..Version: 1.40

Lots of data, but no snowfall amounts?I realize this isn’t a big deal everywhere, but it really is here in the northeast. As far as I can see, there is no indication anywhere of expected snowfall amounts. There also doesn’t appear to be integration with National Weather Service alerts. In 2 days we’re expecting 8 inches of snow. Nothing in Snowflake warns me about that incoming storm. “Rain mixed with snow” is it’s report for that day. I found out about the storm from AccuWeather, which shows snowfall probabilities across the range of likely amounts and provides the NWS alerts. In places where “a dusting to an inch” can become 12”-16” of snow because of a last minute change of storm track 24 hours out, this is really important data. I might use this app a lot in the summer, but not at all in the winter..Version: 1.40

Better and free apps out thereI got suckered into buying this for $5.00 when I read a glowing review on a website about it. The hourly chart looked incredible and it seemed promising. I then found that I would have to pony up an extra $1 each month just to have weather map functionality. And to top it all off, the hourly chart isn’t nearly as good, informative, or detailed as wunderground’s (it’s a free app). Stay away from this overpriced rip off. It’s not a bad app but you can get better for free..Version: 1.0

Most accurate weather app I’ve foundI live in a rural area, and the major weather apps report the weather from the closest city, which isn’t very close. Snowflake is more hyper-local, I assume because it is based on DarkSky weather. Works well with Apple Watch as a complication, though it helps to have a more modern iPhone than my previous XR..Version: 1.40

Please update your default iconFor such a detailed weather app why is the default icon such a pixelated mess? I’ve been a fan of iStat menus weather for years and was happy to pay for the same functionality on my iPhone... but it’s almost as if the icon was an afterthought. What gives?.Version: 1.30

Good bits and bad bitsI use reading glasses so I like to be able to see the weather without having to put them on. So the temperature is good, so is the precipitation likelyhood. I also cycle so I like to know wind speed and direction both are in very small type and the former takes an additional click to see (if you can find it). Bigger fonts and more customisable please. It could be better. Update Thank you for your reply. On the phone I would like to see in large font on the first screen the temperature, wind speed and direction, and precipitation probability. I enjoy maps and graphs but with space constraints and small fonts I can’t read them on the street. Younger eyes can have more data in smaller font on the first screen..Version: 1.0

Great Weather AppWould love to see weather notifications (alerts from the national weather service as well as just “it’s about to start raining”) like other weather apps have. Otherwise this app is fantastic. Great UI. Tons of detail. tons of customization for apple watch complications. A great desktop Mac app companion as part of iStat Menus. Keep up the great work!.Version: 1.20

Glad to see this app get an updateI really like this app. It’s hard to find a privacy focused weather app, and when I do they usually charge way too much for features I don’t care about. Glad this app sticks to the basics..Version: 1.40

A great way to get the weather forecastI love this app. The data is so well visualized. Excellent line graphs. As a user of this team’s world clock app, I love the sun and moon data. Thanks for providing that info, I miss that old app..Version: 1.30

Looks great on first useNo complaints about $10 + $5/yr for good app and weather data. Have the whiners in these reviews ever seen what it costs to build and support a great app? I love iStat menus and happily pay for the full data there as well. One feature request: I’ve added several frequented locations. Is there an easier way to get between them in one step? Perhaps a swipe? Thanks for your great effort here. I appreciate good UI and am happy to support it. (And thanks to Rene Ritchie for recommending this app).Version: 1.0

My new favorite weather app.It combines the top 2 or 3 features from each of my other weather apps. Quickly became the one I use daily..Version: 1.40

Much Better. But Apple Watch doesn’t work properly.Apple Watch complications and forecast broken. H/L #s incorrect. Example is H:140 L 37. Also still no way to access locations from main page. Radar in Apple Watch and alerts still missing..Version: 1.1

Excellent ProgramInformative with great design. Would like estimated amount/quantity of rainfall, if possible (using Dark Sky as provider which provides this information)..Version: 1.0

I like it...Would be a 5-star app if it sent notifications. Don’t know why folks are griping over the price. It’s literally a bit more expensive than a value meal at a fast food restaurant so eat a bologna sandwich and invest in this app....Version: 1.0

Best weather app ever! This app is well worth the money! It is very well built and thought out. I don’t mind paying a few bucks for a high quality app. Great job guys! 😀.Version: 1.0

OverpricedThe base app without the IAP does so little it should be a free app. There should be at least the basic radar screen included in the base app. This is really a $5/year app for it to be even a little useful..Version: 1.0

My new weather appBeautiful, fast and extremely detailed. Happily signed up for the subscription!.Version: 1.0

Love this appHope iOS 14 widget is in the works because this is my preferred weather app..Version: 1.11

Clean Interface, Good Options, Fair PriceI’ve used most all the weather apps, with their premium options, and check-in multiple times per day across all my Apple devices. I love how clean this interface is — maximum info in minimal space, yet easy to read. With Plus, I appreciate being able to use TWC data that is consistently more accurate in my location than any other weather provider, and the Apple Watch interface is well done and supports the all latest complications in an easy-to-use manner. I’ve relegated my snarky weather app and a backup I used to a folder — with Snowflake front and center on my iPhone & iPad, Widgets for both, and Apple Watch 5 complications. Snowflake is certainly one of the best first version apps I’ve purchased in a very long time. I am A-OK paying a reasonable subscription fee for additional weather sources and Apple Watch support. Negative reviewers on this point simply don’t understand basic economics where weather app developers pay for each update from weather sources, so it’s not viable to give it away for free, for a lifetime, especially as multiple devices such as Apple Watch fetch data more frequently to keep it current on your watchface — just in case you look — even if you don’t. ;) The $4.99 fee/year is nothing compared to most other apps out there. My only initial suggestions: 1) Provide a method to provide feedback like this directly from the app; 2) Add a Mickey temperature digits-only complication that is larger and can be read without a magnifying glass; 3) Show watchface graphics in Apple’s Watch Complication App as Snowflake complications are selected there (all Snowflake is blank now.) These are all minor things in the scheme of things — it definately shows professionals have been involved in the development (like what I’ve grown to love with iStat Menus on Mac for years.).Version: 1.0

Favorite for iPadThanks for adding the new widgets. This is my favorite weather app for iPad..Version: 1.30

Problems with Environment Canada SourceOverall a good app with a wide variety of data. However there are 2 issues with the Environment Canada source : 1) Later in the day the forecast shows as "?" 2) the hourly forecast data is from the Weather Company source..Version: 1.11

Spinning wheelWonderful app, very detailed information, but lately there is only a spinning wheel and blank screen, and the widget doesn't work either.Version: 1.40

Works again!Had a period of nonfunctionality but seems to be up again! Great weather app with a useful widget.Version: 1.40

Need 2 thingsNeed swipe from left to right to change locations The second things is an option to show daily snow fall forecast in cm.Version: 1.11

Canada wind gustWe live in an isolated area of extreme cold temperature. I do not see any wind and wind gust anywhere in the app. I do see feels like but would like to see the wind gusts as it affects ourdoor travel. Thanks.Version: 1.1

Thanks for making improvements for Canada! Thanks for making the environment Canada data nicer :).Version: 1.11

Not bad, not greatPROS: Good layout of information. Different weather sources. Lots of information. CONS: No weather alerts. No way to edit lots of cities. Clumsy implementation to view weather in different cities (have to go into settings>location and then change from there. Make it accessible from main page please..Version: 1.0

ExcellentSimple to use with a detailed interface that’s not cluttered..Version: 1.0

It’s good but…Just paid $6.99 for the app (in Canada) and ponied up for the subscription. The app itself is good with lots of information. However, it would be nice to have an easier way to choose between saved cities on the iPhone and watch. Maybe a swipe left or right on the main page? And please work on the icons for the watch. They look a little cartoonish and not really representative of the actual weather. Otherwise, it’s a nice change from the “other big name” in weather..Version: 1.0

Just bought it and it’s nice but...I like Bjango used iStat so when they released a weather app that they said respected my privacy I paid the $6.99(Canada) for it no problem. Then I see they’re offering a subscription. The price i a few cent less a year than the app. So that isn’t horrible at all and I’d consider paying for it. However they should offer at least two weeks if not a month of Snowflake Plus for free so people can see if it’s actually worth it. I can say 100% without a free trial to actually see what you get in app they won’t be getting a sub out of me. Update it with an initial free trial and if it’s worth it, I’ll definitely sub. Simple as that. Overall though the information and layout is spot on and easy understand and comprehend. Thanks for that at least Bjango.Version: 1.0
