Looks great, needs improvement in carThe app looks great but needs some improvement when used as a background in-car radio: 1. I have my car connected via Bluetooth. Sometimes, when I start the car, the app will start playing, but more often not. The needed functionality is seemingly there, but not always working. 2. When I pass tunnels or other regions with sketchy reception, the app stops playing, but it’s not resuming when I get the signal back. There’s a need to restart the audio (while driving). This is different from a regular radio that won’t naturally work in tunnels, but always resumes when in surface. 3. There’s a dialog box “can’t play that station” that is most definitely can’t be seen when the app is in the background (when e.g. navigation in foreground). 4. Sometimes I leave the car when the radio is not playing (stopped by itself) and walk 20 meters away. When I return (Bluetooth established) the app starts playing again. 5. The car “play” button sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t. At times I can hear the chimes (great idea btw) but when I bring the app in the foreground it’s not trying to connect, as the play button is tappable. The Best No-Nonsense Streaming Radio AppThere are *so many* streaming radio apps out there. Some are tied to a particular service or broadcaster (Audacy, TuneIn, I Heart Radio, Sirius XM, etc.) But none of them are built to put your interests first, except Triode. It has the best directory of stations, the best stock favorites list, and the best developers behind it – a team with a long track-record of making first class, user-centered software. As a life-long fan of broadcast radio, especially AM and shortwave, it can sometimes feel like my listening options are shrinking. But online streaming is going strong, and a world of amazing stations are just waiting to be found in Triode. If I had one wish for the app, as ridiculous as it sounds, I love the option to introduce some user-configurable artificial static or warble into the output. Download this app, and once you’ve sat with it a bit, buy it. Solid software built for you, not data brokers, is far too rare in iOS-land. This is it..MfitzhughVersion: 2.1

Best of the bunchI came back to Triode after trying other options. I still think it’s the best option, but I can’t figure a few things … when I previously used this app (I had paid for it three years in a row), I could see the artist, album art, track for every song for FIP Monde, which I listen to almost all the time. When I came back to Triode recently and purchased the ‘forever’ option, I no longer see this info. I just get the generic FIP Monde art and have to tap on Shazam to ID the song. It shows up briefly on the screen, then disappears. Did something change to make this not possible? I also use to see a + button to quickly add a track to Apple Music, but I no longer see that, either. I’m thinking I must be missing something, but checking the support I don’t see how to fix this. Still, great app. The buffering is superior to other apps I’ve tried, so it doesn’t drop out as often in CarPlay, it seems to me..ArcanemothVersion: 2.1

Best radio app in the App StoreAfter using several others over the years, Triode comes in and takes the internet radio crown. It has art, syncs stations between devices (yay!), has a good search function, and does it all with an uncluttered, delightfully simple interface. It makes me happy every time I use it to play public radio while making coffee in the morning or playing some music to work or relax. Triode has some UI oddities and needs a little more polish to make some of the interactions feel truly modern. An option for custom art from the web or any image file would be a nice touch too (some radio stations don’t provide a great default). Since it’s at the top of a somewhat weak set of options in the App Store, it gets five stars. Very promising start...I’ve been using TuneIn Pro for the past 3 years and I’m ready to move on. Unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of options out there that aren’t harvesting your data and infested with ads. I’ve just started using Triode and I’m seriously impressed, but I have a couple of questions before I purchase the lifetime subscription. Are there plans for a Watch app? Just what I wantedI’ve been wanting a simple internet radio app for a long time - this is perfect. One piece of feedback: when I add a radio station via search, it pulls a custom icon, and then I tap “change icon”, I see no way to go back to the stations originally downloaded image. Continuing to hit change icon merely cycles through Triode’s set, and removing/adding the station back to favorites doesn’t seem to retrigger a station artwork fetch. It would also be neat if I could rename the stations I add to favorites from “our picks” - it feels odd having some stations with title text below their image (ones I’ve added via search) and some without (ones added from our picks)..RevertTSVersion: 1.0

Great app for radio in CarPlayI got a CarPlay head unit for my car and the built in radio on it is trash. This app has the best sound quality out of the few apps I’ve tried, even some of the bigger names. There’s only maybe 1-2 stations I’m missing that I regularly listen to in my area but I’ve found some others from across the country I like more honestly- I know this is a licensing issue so no worries. Great, simple, and works flawlessly.I paid for the lifelong subscription, that is how much I like it. I found most of my favorite channels, and was able to custom add the few that were missing. Changing channels is quick with no lag - the best I’ve experienced out of all the apps I’ve tried. Would strongly request the ability to add custom logos. I use it through CarPlay; so it would be nice to add logos to the custom stations. Looks less professional on CarPlay with the included simple/generic logos. What I was looking forAbsolutely maddening if I’m working between two access points and the chimes sound every time the phone switches between the two, or between Wi-Fi and cellular. The app becomes unusable in this situation. Really my only complaint but one that makes me not able to use the app. UPDATE: I’m an idiot and didn’t bother to look in the settings to see if I could turn the chimes off. Great, well-designed appThe thing just works, and beautifully. There’s very little friction to get from wanting to listen to a station to actually listening to a station, or to flip through stations to find something that clicks on your head. Trust Has Been BurnedI would give this App 5 stars only if it would have not started charging me a monthly subscription when I paid the $20 for unlimited use. I was a little disappointed to see the charge today on my bank account. I will update this review once the developers fixes its mistake. Good internet radio appUsed for months and does the job well. There’s a good built in selection and the ability to manually add stations is a godsend. This app is far more polished and usable than similar ones still in the App Store. The option to purchase with a one time payment instead of a subscription is appreciated. Stops play every 5 minute - recent developmentI love this radio app. It’s the best. But recently, perhaps beginning with IOS 16.6, it’s stops playing every 5 minutes. I must restart it manually - every 5 minutes. I deleted and reinstalled 3 separate times without success. The bug happens whether I’m on wifi or using cell data. I sure hope someone sorts this out. Triode - Radio APP - one of the best aroundHaving used many different radio apps on our iPhone, we think this is one of the best. Relevant and pertinent functionality galore. For instance, before installing this free app, we would tell Siri to play one of our favorite radio stations (such as Metaverse Radio WMVR-db Chicago) and 30% of the time, it worked. But since installing Triode and confirming the proper voice commands via its info tab, Siri has nailed it 💯%! Also, with its companion Apple TV app & AirPlay, you're set to listen anywhere at home including HomePod. And on the road, the CarPlay & Siri Shortcuts keep you free from distractions. Recommendations & Comments.I like the app would like to see support added for Spotify, Wikipedia and google browser for current song and artist playing. I also feel that more radio stations should be added in USA & Canada for a premium app. Sometimes I have noticed when trying to select another station there’s a bit of a freeze where you have to press play few times so this should be checked. Trial didn’t workI signed up for a subscription with a month free trial. But when I tried to Favorite a station, I just kept getting the popup subscription offer. My sub was listed in the App Store but not recognized by the app. The developers agreed it was a problem but then stopped answering my emails. So while the app looks like a good solution if it worked right, I canceled my trial before I had to pay. Maybe I’ll try again someday..2713331Version: 1.2.1

$30 wastedI bought the lifetime subscription a year ago. About 2 weeks ago some of my stations would no longer connect even though they were coming up on the search - I wrote to the developer with no response. I was able to manually remap the stations but as of today 3/25 the app gets killed in the background. I suspect that this is something to do with os 17.4 but I also suspect that the developer won’t fix this anytime soon. There is no explicit setting to allow this app background refresh.
