WiZ (legacy) Positive Reviews

Very impressiveI don’t usually write reviews unless something is really amiss. In this case, I’m writing because of how thoroughly impressed I am! I love all of the options for customization. I’ve used several ‘smart’ lights over the years, each with their own app, and the quality of those apps is usually pretty bad, which is why this one stands out. It’s intuitive! It doesn’t crash every five seconds! And it’s not a struggle to reconnect to the lights when you want to change their settings. My favorite aspect is that you can choose different light settings depending on how many times you flip a switch. We’ve gone back to the store twice just to get more bulbs to put around the house. The *only* possible improvement I can think of would be having more customizable dynamic lighting options (i.e. if you could pick a few colors for it to cycle through), but that’s a really small thing compared to everything you *can* do..Version: 1.24.3

Update to the New AppUsing this app only to integrate with Alexa and the required Skill. I’ve used one Wiz bulb for over a year now (others are Hue bulbs) and had no problems until a few weeks ago when it stopped responding to Alexa commands. I received a notification through the Alexa app stating basically that the account verification period had expired and needed to be renewed. The device would show “Server Unresponsive” as a result. I opened the Wiz app and instantly got a notification that there was a new app that Wiz switched to and that I must download and migrate my account over. Migration occurred automatically upon opening the new app. Followed the steps and got logged into the new app. Deleted the old app. Had to Re-integrate back to my account in the settings menu of the Wiz app and then re-installed the Wiz skill back into the Alexa app. Finally, the Wiz Skill kept prompting me to enter a six digit pin that was supposedly generated in the Wiz App settings under Integration, however no pin is presented as I’m assuming the new app no longer uses this method of verification. The light ends up working even without a PIN number so I’m now running smoothly again. I think the Wiz skill could be updated..Version: 1.25.0

It's ok on the old versionI have never migrated to the new version but it seems like there are more negative reviews from people using the newer version. I do have issues every now and then with bulbs dropping a signal and having to repair, but that's usually it. and one other issue I've noticed is that the app does not adjust for daylight savings time. So I usually have to go in and adjust the time frames for the outdoor bulbs I have on a schedule, so that's just a little bit annoying. I have the same issue as others where the App will tell me I'm not connected to the correct Wi-Fi, but if I opt to pair manually it usually works for me. The bulbs themselves are amazing, I am super picky about lighting, so I love being able to adjust the Tone, brightness, and literally every color in the rainbow! The app could use some work though, it would be nice if things worked a little smoother and the signal wasn't dropped as frequently. I understand the bulbs are a newer concept, so it probably just takes some time to perfect this kind of application but I hope they work out the bugs because they'll definitely get an update of five stars from me if they do!.Version: 1.27.0

Request more flexibilityFor the most part, I am enjoying the Wiz app and it’s control over my lighting. I have been using the Wiz app and bulbs in my house for over a year, mostly confined to one room, but I recently expanded to several more rooms. I set up different color scenes for different occasions, moods or times of day, in different rooms. It’s extremely useful having scenes connected through Alexa. I do wish to see more functionality added to the app though. Mostly through the control of color selection. I would like to be able to establish my own color combinations, e.g. ocean cycles through preset blues, I would like to cycle through colors that I choose. I would also like to see better organization within the scenes tab. I have multiple scenes established for multiple rooms. Scrolling through the list gets cumbersome when using the app searching for a specific room and scene. Maybe be able to collapse a room within the list? I would also like to group multiple rooms into a scene. For example, I would like to be able set a scene across multiple rooms at once..Version: 1.26.1

Functionality RequestEdit: Would also request option in app for dark mode. Enjoy the app. Thought I would throw this out there. It would be nice to have this option when you place single bulbs in the app into a group. This is a great option which I enjoy. It would be nice if you could add this feature. When you long hold on a group of bulbs you created, it then brings that group to the forefront. Here would be nice to add an option to allow the manipulation of a single bulb in the group. So you could change color, brightness, etc. Instead, currently you would need to drag the bulb out of the group, wait for app and bulbs to refresh, then change color on that single bulb. When done, you then have to drag that bulb back into the group if you wish to control a group of bulbs at the same time (not an entire room). This would be a great feature to add and I hope it comes under consideration. I have enjoyed the app since downloading almost 2 months ago and have lots of theses wiz & philips bulbs..Version: 1.26.1

My experience with Bluetooth lightbulb. My experience with this Phillips bulb has been really good. I love everything about it especially that you could turn it off at your phone. You can also pick any color you want in the rainbow. Summer more vivid than the other but you always can get great colors. There’s also a lot of moods that is very convenient for different situations. The only thing I would love to have in this bulb is a black light. To make everything white glow like you were in a nightclub. Besides that everything else is perfect about the bulb. Easy set up an easy to used. I love having mine..Version: 1.22.1

Simple and works well, but…Simple and easy to use although horizontally scrolling to access rooms isn’t the greatest user experience. In need of some simple UI improvements / options, but mostly OK and has worked consistently since setup. There is a v2 of the app and unfortunately the reviews for it are abysmal. If you decide to remain on the legacy app you are punished each and every time you open the app by having to bypass their popup message urging you to switch to v2. Additionally if you switch to v2 and decide to switch back all your data will be gone and you’ll have to re set up everything. Insultingly bad user experience. Otherwise this is a solid 4 star app in need of only minor tweaks. There are vague replies to poor reviews of v2 suggesting fixes or improvements are coming soon but without knowing for sure when those will happen or if they will work… I will continue to use v1 legacy begrudgingly..Version: 1.29.0

Keeps changing on its ownI honestly love the idea of changing your light bulb colors and it is actually really cool. The thing that bothers me is that when it gets late it gets darker. I'll be in my room with no intention of going to bed and my light will slowly get darker until it's on the night mode which is just a small light for when it's night. I turn the lights brighter then it does it again. I have to chang it to any other color and sometimes it still even does it. The other day I was in my room with my phone off and my lights start going to a pinkish to a light orange to a yellow over and over again and it wouldn't stop. It was so random and I wasn't touching my phone and no one in my house has the app to control my lights. It was really weird and it happend twice that same day but not any other day. Other than that, having color changing light bulbs is awesome..Version: 1.25.0

Getting better - room for improvementIt would be appreciated if WiZ would publish a change log somewhere so we can have some more details on what bugs are resolved in each release. This app and the associated ecosystem has improved over the years but can still be better. I’ve amassed a collection of over 30 WiZ enabled bulbs and fixtures. WiZClick is a great feature with one glaring hole - the missing ability to select a rhythm as one of the choices when flipping the lights on. Flip on the lights - sync to the room rhythm. A quick off and on for the second time - an alternate present of choice - like cool white at full brightness. I’d also love to be able to use a single rhythm across multiple rooms or be able to copy a rhythm from one room to the next. Sadly I’ve asked support for this feature numerous times over the past several years with no sign of it to come. My fingers remain crossed..Version: 1.26.0

FINALLY able to switch to new appI, like many, was super frustrated about the migration over to the new app! After several failed attempts of following the old app’s migration instructions over the last few months, today I decided to try it one more time and it actually worked. What I did that worked for me: 1. Downloaded the new app 2. In the new app, I chose to create a NEW home (do not do the migration!) 3. Create the rooms as desired. When adding each bulb, since I already had them connected under the old app, I turned it on and off **5 times** (vs 3 times as instructed by the app) until I saw the blue pulsing light 4. I then followed the pairing instructions on screen for the next steps, i.e. waiting for the light to flash purple, then connecting to the WiFi, and it FINALLY WORKED. I could not for the life of me get the migration process to work no matter what I did. I also tried to set up a new home previously with the new app by following the instructions in the app but my bulbs weren’t being recognized. I did some googling and found that to re-pair bulbs (that are already paired up!!) you need to turn it on and off FIVE times versus the 3 times (the 3 times only works when pairing brand new bulbs). Hopefully this helps someone else out!!!.Version: 1.22.2

Good quality but hard to set upThe controls are great and everything works well once it has been set up. The issue is exactly that. Those lights will not set up on a regular dual band Wi-Fi network. You will have to either have a split network or disable your 5.0 network before setting this up. Then on a separate set up you need to install it with your voice devices (Alexa and Google). Not sure if it works with Siri. Took me many days to figure out why I was not being able to set it up. Once you been through this ordeal, then everything is wonderful and the controls are just what you need. Easy to organize in groups and do very much anything you like. The installation however, either needs to improve or come with more comprehensive instructions..Version: 1.23.0

FaultyIt sometimes works; sometimes the colors stay. But the main problem is when I want to use any of the timed lights or a rhythm. It will not stay. Also, whenever I want to turn off the lights by my phone or remote it will not stay on. Meaning that basically almost all the functions of my lights are useless except for maybe getting the kind of battalions lighting I want. Even that is faulty. I see other reviewers blame it on an update but honestly this is all I’ve known. If the problem isn’t fixed soon I’ll just have to return my lights and get normal light bulbs. ————————————————————————— Update: it is now 4 stars. The colors stay and I don’t need to reconnect the bulbs every 12 hours (they stay connected thank god). I still have an issue with the on/off feature. IT WILL NOT STAY OFF. I can’t use my phone to turn it off. It might stay off for a few minutes but it will just turn on again and as daylight mode. This means I can’t use the timed light modes which is really unfortunate. Other features I can use now though so a great improvement..Version: 1.24.3

Great app! + feature requestThis is a really great, life changing product. The simplicity, precision, customization, and cost-efficiency is second to none. My only feedback is that it would be REALLY great if you could customize the app color background (like the light & dark appearance settings on iPhone, but have it automatically change based on time of day, or sync to the dimmer level). There’s no fun in having your lighting set to a perfect dim mood… then opening the app to make an adjustment and being blinded by the bright white background. Other than that caveat, I highly recommend the Wiz lights & app!.Version: 1.27.0

AmazingThis is honestly the most amazing lighting I have ever had. My brother got me two light bulbs for Christmas and I love them so much. There is an awesome lighting array and you can save the colors that you like the most. I love that they have packets I guess of colors. I think my favorite group of colors is the ocean one. The lights can be super relaxing and the focus setting really helps me focus on my homework. Since I had two I set one up in a lantern in my room and set another one up in the bathroom to mess with my brother when he is showering😂. I don’t have any complaints about these lights and the app. This is the best investment ever. They are easy to set up too!.Version: 1.21.10

It just worksThis original WiZ app works pretty well. Its fairly intuitive and you get a lot of options. I use it for automation of about a dozen indoor and outdoor light bulbs. Connecting new lights can occasionally take a few minutes, but I have never had connectivity issues once connected, with this app. The main problem is the “v2” app, which is considered the update to this, except it’s complete trash. I just uninstalled it and came back to this one. As long as you stick with this app, you’ll have a great experience..Version: 1.27.0

Usually works but now it has stopped workingBefore my app updated itself it worked great and wonderfully, however as of recent the app had told me to download their new app and transfer my data. I did do this and acknowledge their term of agreements however the new app was confusing and my light was disabled so I went back to the old one. There was one problem, my light was still disabled on the app. So I deleted and redownloaded the app and tried to pair it again, however each time I try to pair (whether it be automatic or manual) it fails to do so. It’s very frustrating because now I cannot connect my light again and it’s all because the app updated itself..Version: 1.27.0

Please reattach this app to the wiz lightsThat new app is HORRIBLE and has its own mind turning lights off and on by itself, disconnecting lights that are one so you can’t turn them off, it’s horrible! And now it won’t even LET me use this app that was perfectly fine. The new one is not user friendly on top of that… I never had an issue with this app connected but ever since yall changed it it’s been nothing but a headache! I would rather get my money back and use regular lights than deal with the hassle and incompetence of the new app y’all have forced on is for no good reason considering it doesn’t work properly.Version: 1.29.0

Update not up to parWhen we were forced to migrate to this new app, we were told that everything would migrate over. After several attempts I still kept getting an error that the app would not migrate my data. The instructions were not very clear. Finally, my original app was accidentally erased and now I am faced with rebuilding my whole house. Using the smart setup is worthless. It has not worked on any of my lights and I have had to manually set up each one. Several freestanding lamps will not connect at all Then trying to get the new app connected to Alexa device - I find that Wiz is not listed in their directory Very disappointed and quite frustrated.Version: 1.22.2

Wiz bulbsI had a terrible time trying to get my Wiz bulbs reconnected to the internet, but finally succeeded tonight. The problem started when our internet went out about a month ago. We ended getting a new modem. But the bulbs were no longer connected to the internet. You have no instructions for what to do in this case. You have videos on how to connect bulbs, but not how to reconnect. I had to figure that out on my own. To do this, I had to add the lights back to each room, and had to pair them once again to the internet, which I did manually. Please make a video for this. I am sure I am not the only one who has experienced this frustration..Version: 1.27.0

Hue tuneable led rgb downlights are great!1. Must have good Wi-Fi coverage. Your investing in lights fix your Wi-Fi too or you will say it doesn’t work. 2. I know you are excited to see the lights working. Install all lights in one area and then follow the WIZ instructions, lol, you thought you could do it without, I thought I could too. 3. Which will try your patience, go step by step and you will be rewarded with great lighting. WIZ app is a great start. 4. Auto setup does work, but you can also manually link your lights, frustrating at times but doable. ENJOY!.Version: 1.27.0

WizReally enjoy with certain bought light bulbs that I can create a blue light in my darkened living room a relaxing effect on my SAD ( seasonal affective disorder) as my eyes get over stimulated with bright lights so I do not view hardly anything on blue light devices even though I have specifically made blue block glasses made for it from my Opthamologist that still will not block enough bright light which stimulates me with an Disorder Bipolar. As I have aged it has only increased. So I expect to be inside a lot and go outside at early evening for socializing or walking. Kathy Harmon.Version: 1.21.10

An improvement, but could be betterI had left Wiz for Nanoleaf after being sick and tired of constant network errors and being unable to control my lights. After only 6 weeks with Nanoleaf, I’m getting rid of all of those bulbs and bought even more Wiz bulbs than before because at least this app works most of the time and setup is a lot easier and worlds faster. That being said, would love to see an easier way to create scenes with multiple rooms together instead of individual rooms separately because that is a huge time sink trying to get an entire home to perform a mood change all at once..Version: 1.25.0

Pretty good for the priceI thought i would save a few bucks and picked up a couple these instead of the Phillips Hue bulbs i’d been using - the major difference i’ve noticed are lower color saturation and fewer color options in the Wiz bulbs (user can’t define a custom array of colors to cycle thru but a few cookie cutter options are available from the manufacturer ie halloween, christmas, pastels, party) as usual you get what you pay for and in this case is a stable smart bulb that works and gets the job done - and now i have to switch apps to control a couple of bulbs which is a huge, self-induced PITA..Version: 1.25.0

Feature request sunrise/sunsetOverall been really happy with these lights. started out with a couple to add some character to a room and wound up adding several more around the house. we like the ease of setup and the mostly straightforward app. one feature that I think would make this really killer is if “sunset” (and sunrise) were options in the scheduler. there are many api’s available to include this data in the app from the web and would make more sense out of the scheduler as the timing for sunset is always drifting. aside from that been really happy!.Version: 1.25.0

Good but What about HUEI know just enough to compare Wiz to other IoT like apps (in terms of user interface and ease of turn on and begin using) and not in terms of more advanced program features Beyond simply linking and controlling to main platform. Question: WHY is Phillips choosing to confuse customers with Both to the Wiz and Hue Applications (?)! I begin my “smart home” with Philips (due to finally deciding on a platform and company that has been and will be around for a while), the other lighting companies are not well represented at the various stores I shop (I have to see the stuff). Then after spending, a lot of money, too embarrassing to say, Philips decides to change their app. Now I have Hue, Wiz, Luminary, and some others I forgot their passwords. If you want two apps for your lighting, please allow both apps to work on all Phillips lighting products. Finally, the Hue app is a very functional and simple application. Thank you.Version: 1.25.0

V2 is trashTheir new app is absolute dog shhh. Just from the screenshots alone it looks like it was made for a early 2000s iPod or worst yet a mp3 player. I don’t know who had the artistic liberties in the development of their new app but they should be fired. We love simplicity and clean lines. I don’t want to manage my lights from an app that looks like an app in one of those kids learning laptops, thanks but I’ll stick with this clean and elegant version of your app until you come to your senses..Version: 1.27.0

Dark ModeIt would be great if the app had a dark mode. I’ve got my lights dimmed before bed, but the app (being white) is brighter than the light bulb! Update: thanks for the response. It would be helpful to also create “favorite” buttons separate from the menu so I don't have to scroll through the menu choices every time. Update: When setting the scheduled light color changes, it would be nice to allow for a 15-30 second transition period. When the light flips from say 2300 to daylight at the set time, it’s kind of annoying. But a transition period would be nice..Version: 1.27.0

Not the bestHonestly the lights are very good and I enjoy using them very much. For the first month of having them I’ve had little to no problems. But, this new update doesn’t allow me to change the lights color and when I try the whole app just crashes. I hope to see this get fixed because I really do enjoy these lights but the app just is not that reliable. Right now I’ve deleted and reinstalled the app. Hopefully this stupid app works but right now I’m having trouble reconnecting all the lights and hopefully this app will decide to work again..Version: 1.24.0

This app is an infinitely better product than v2This app works better, looks better, and has all the bugs worked out. I don’t know why they felt the need to introduce a new version of the app. No chance I’ll be buying more Wiz bulbs if they stop supporting the original and force us to downgrade to their new version. I tried the new app (“v2”) and had nothing but issues getting my lights to work as they had before. I see zero benefit in switching—I can’t understand why WIZ thinks it’s customers would be interested in troubleshooting an experimental new app design in their spare time, when all they want is to turn their lights on and off. I’m sticking with this legacy app for its slick minimalism and intuitive user interface, and more importantly, it already works—the new version is an inferior product in both style and utility..Version: 1.29.0

Apple watch not friendlyYou guys should make the app Apple Watch friendly. It would be ridiculously awesome to be able to close my lights and set moods that can be choose on my watch quickly!!! Now that I think about it I feel it is weird nobody thought of this before 🤔.Version: 1.21.10

Dynamic lighting has potentialLet us make our own custom dynamic lighting.Version: 1.26.1

Handy app but sometimes slowI love being able to set schedules for my bulbs and all the different colour options and dynamic lighting options. My main complaint is sometimes you have to click on or off twice because the app doesn’t register the first click, it also feels a little slow to respond at times but I imagine that might be a limitation of the wifi connection with the bulb Overall pretty good, and the iPhone widget which lets u turn all bulbs on or off from the home screen is a great feature.Version: 1.29.0

Great colour selection and holiday themesI love the themes and colour selection the bulbs have, they are the best and easiest to set up out of the multiple colour changing light bulbs I’ve tried. I 100% recommended for those who want easy dimming and colour changing lights.Version: 1.27.0

Stop pestering me to update to V2Every time you try to use the app for anything now it has an extremely annoying pop up trying to get you to update to the V2 app that has serious problems. One pop up is enough to let users know about it..Version: 1.29.0

Not fully compatible with iPhoneI’ve really enjoyed the ease of the app with special appreciation for the night light feature I use for the washroom and the gradual half hour morning/bedtime light. For added improvements and ease of use, it would be nice if it could be integrated with Apple’s Home features so Siri could be part of it, making it even simpler..Version: 1.29.0

Better than the new versionI use an IPad Pro mainly and this 'legacy' app works while the new one is clearly made for the iPhone and tends to crash. This version displays full screen on my iPad where the new version starts of small and needs to be zoomed into.. As it stands now the new version is a waste of time for me to even look at. In fact if the new one is sleeping in the background it makes the lagacy version crash when I start it up. Who ever wrote the new app needs to rethink their choices..Version: 1.29.0

Wiz is great… or it was?The new app doesn’t support the old “scenes” I had perfected and it seems like it’s a bit more difficult to control. (I have the old app on my iPad— new one on my iPhone). Seems solvable. Otherwise love WIZ.Version: 1.27.0

Good but can you make it apple watch compatibleWould it be possible to make it apple watch compatible so I can control brightness and scenes from my watch.Version: 1.27.0

Easy to useOne of the easier lighting control apps that I’ve used.Version: 1.27.0

Way better than V2I rather keep this version than upgrade to v2. Version 2 keeps kicking me out every single day and it’s frustrating having to redo the whole thing. Once v2 is actually working properly then I’ll reinstall, but for now I’m sticking to this version..Version: 1.27.0

Custom dynamic lightingPlease release a feature allowing creation of custom dynamic lighting, where we can choose the colours to transition between.Version: 1.27.0

AppThe app is a bit shaky but overal a good experience idk if I should download v2 too many bad review..Version: 1.27.0

Works wellI normally don’t leave reviews but this works very well for the price. Hope it lasts..Version: 1.27.0

Love the app, one suggestionSo this app is great and it works perfectly with my WalMart Value Brand and Philips Wi-Fi smart lights. I like to manually set up my lights to create a sunset effect that gets gradually brighter in the morning. My only complaint is that once I have 10+ lighting effects set up (one at 7am, 7:05am, 7:10am, etc), there’s no easy way to move them all to another time. Let’s say I now want to wake up at 8:30am instead of 7:30am. I now have to go in and change the timer on every single light effect that I had set up. My suggestion would be to add a feature that lets me group multiple light effect settings and times together so that I can easily change them if I want to. That way I can make something like, 7:30am Wake-up Routine (ON): (7:00am light setting, 7:05am light setting, 7:10am light setting, 7:15am, 7:20am, 7:25am, 7:30am) 8:00am Wake-up Routine (OFF): (7:30am light setting, 7:35am light setting, 7:40am light setting, 7:45am, 7:50am, 7:55am, 8:00am).Version: 1.27.0

Easy set upEasy to use. Fun to play with as well. Only issue I have is with scheduling as with the time change the light turns on an hour early now. Should have a time setting or go off of the internet link..Version: 1.27.0

Daylight Savings Time!App works well - have one complaint and that is schedules and routine time does not adjust automatically with change from Daylight saving time to winter time and vice versa! This can be very frustrating. And to remove and add back 15 -20 bulbs is not easy as a workaround! Also would recommend introducing a dawn and dusk on/off setting based on the live dawn/dusk timing of a location..Version: 1.27.0
