Fantastic appWe just got back from a week on Kauai and this app was brilliant. We were on the island for a medical conference and so had limited time to explore, so taking drives and making stops along the way with Andrew’s narration was perfect. We agreed that we would have paid three times as much for the app, it was that valuable. Just one suggestion…the author stays very current on local conditions, but we did run into one area where maybe the narration should be altered. We stayed away from Queen’s Bath because his warnings convinced us October was NOT the time to visit. However, when we visited Wailua Falls he goes into detail about how to get down to the falls (with the caveat that the government doesn’t want you down there—so he does suggest not to do it.) Despite the warning signs posted, we made the hike. It was treacherous and amazing and we were glad we did it, but when we safely returned to the overlook we discovered that recently the government started fining you for going down there. Fortunately it didn’t happen to us, but it happened to others. We also found out a hiker died at the base of Wailua Falls just one week prior to us going down the trail, probably one of many reasons the government made the trail illegal. You may want to update that little section with some firm warnings the way you did with Queen’s Bath. Just a suggestion! Best travel app ever!I bought Andrew Dougherty’s Kauai Revealed book (for the second time, since my last trip was 5 years ago… his new edition just came out a couple months ago, and boy have things changed in those 5 years!). I read the book almost cover to cover, and was trying to remember tidbits, facts, and stories to tell my family as we were driving around the island. THEN I saw the ad in the back of the book for this app. At first the price felt a little steep, but because I like the writing in the book, and because there were so many good reviews, I went ahead with the purchase. Oh my goodness, what a good decision that was! My teens and spouse adored listening to Andrew pop on the car radio as we were going from here to there. We are now big fans of Shave Ice (with the ice cream bottom), and can confirm that the Hee Fat store and JoJo’s both have the best selection and flavor. Sooo good. Andrew is a good speaker and interesting to listen to; we actually learned a huge amount of island history just during our drives. Also cool was setting up a Hawaiian radio station on Pandora and listening to that in between the times Andrew would start talking. Finally, you absolutely must have an in-car charger for your phone, or your battery will be dead by afternoon and you won’t be able to take pics at your fun destination. Awesome app!I can’t tell you how much my wife and I appreciated having this app guide us around the beautiful island of Kauai during our visit! It truly is like having a friend in the car with you who has all the intimate details, accurate driving instructions, history of the island, and other cultural information to make for a completely enjoyable touring experience! Don’t Leave Home Without It!Andrew Doughty’s “Kauai Revealed” app was sooo helpful on our trip to Kauai this week. Even though we also had his book to refer to, the driving app directed us to locations we most likely would never have found or thought to visit. His commentary was very enlightening and entertaining, with lots of valuable information on the history, culture, language, and respect for the customs of the Hawaiians. One comment, however, on some of the hiking trails, is possibly listing a recommended ability level or age range. My husband and I are 75 and 78 and do a lot of hiking on the mainland, but found a few of these hikes a little too dicey for us. For instance, one of the “moderate” trails near Princeville, in addition to being steep with exposed roots, rocks and somewhat slippery conditions, even using the ropes to hold onto to get down to the beach, we decided to turn back! Best Purchase on the Island!I didn’t need to do weeks of planning going into this trip. All we needed was this app to explain everything to us as we drove around. Sure you can google notable beaches and vistas but they are not as easy to find and park at as one would believe. The dude in this app knew it ALL, and not only that he is very unbiased and committed to providing reviews and suggestions of attractions and restaurants that are not swayed by anything other than his honest feedback. Which Google also doesn’t provide, nor do there many travel bloggers. They are sponsored. Also we learned so much about Hawaiian history and culture and why there are chickens everywhere just be hanging out and touring the island. It added so much to our experience! Amazing In-Car Tour Guide that’ll have you laughing!!I’m a professional pilot too like the author, and fly to Kauai almost every month. While I’m on my layover here, I always turn on this app as soon as I depart the airport and listen to the many interesting things he has to say! I’m cracking up over his hilarious jokes, and the way he presents the many detailed facts about all of the points of interests all around the island. As you drive along in your car, he’ll have you look left or right and talk about the geography, historical spots, beautiful and fun attractions, good restaurants and even places to avoid. Best “backseat” guide!We can’t say enough good things about this app. When he says it will be like having him in the backseat, believe it. The way the GPS knows right where you are and the amazing detailed, educational and entertaining information you will receive is fantastic. Yes, it is much the same as the information you’ll get in the book. But who wants to have their nose in the book when you are driving around on the garden. Island in such beauty. The book can be your back up for when you want to revisit some information or find a restaurant. Best 20 bucks we spent on Kauai. Great narration — killed my batterySo I’ll start by saying that I loved the narration in this guide. It was like being able to tour Kauai with an an old family friend in the car who happened to be living here for the last 30 years. The stories were entertaining, the humor was funny without feeling forced, the advice was useful, the tips were genuinely interesting, and it was just the right amount of chattiness. However, it’s hard to really recommend this app right now, since it eats your battery faster than my kids inhale shave ice. Even after killing the app from the task manager and not actively opening it, I found that it was the biggest use of battery by a long shot out of all of my apps. Hopefully this is a simple fix that can be rolled out in the next version or two, because the content really is quite good. Great App for Driving TourBeen to Kauai several times over the years, but latest was 17 years ago. Got the APP and found new places missed over the years. Enjoyed the stories along the way too. He’s a little tough on the Kauai Coffee tour, but we really enjoyed that along with their coffee shop and mainland prices for large scoops of ice cream. Don’t stop at Lappert’s in Princeville that he recommends, they were rude, ice cream in very small portions and not that good. Another thing he doesn’t tell you that a lot of places are closed on the weekends. Such as the Niihau bead shop in Koloa. Phenomenal App A+++I was so fortunate that a lady from Colorado told us about this app our first day in Princeville. We saw and learned things that made our trip the best I have ever had. The combination of stories, trivia, reviews, tips and manner of presentation just doubled our enjoyment of the island. Great Value!Bought this app to accompany my cherished “blue book” (Kauai Revealed). So glad we did, and only wished we had done the same for our prior week on Maui! It’s challenging to follow printed guides while on the road, so this GPS turn-by-turn audio guide was such a relief from the car sickness that I endured on Maui. Great tips along the way along with history tidbits made this a gem of an app. Suggestion: add a section where one can go back and listen to key recordings again by title and or area. Made our trip even more spectacular!We loved this app! The audio tour worked well in tracking our location, and was much handier to use in Waimea Canyon than our GPS since cell service was dodgy there. We loved hearing stories about Kauai’s history and culture. Because of this app we learned so much, and it directed us to sights we wouldn’t have known about otherwise! Totally worth the $We just got back from Kauai, and this app was so great! I opened it as soon as we left the airport, and everyone - from my 15 yo daughter to my 70 yo mother in law enjoyed this app. “Are you gonna turn Andrew on?” Yep! Can’t imagine a better guideBest advice I can pass along to anyone visiting Kuai is to download this app. Interesting and funny to listen to and super helpful in deciding what to see or do while we were in Kuai. Just download it and start driving. The narrator gives you options, advice and plenty of time to decide before you reach a turnoff. And you can trust the recommendations. Also it’s very, very accurate with the gps. As we drove (or rather bumped) down an unpaved road the app was silent. You need this in Kauai!We have been to Kauai before and have read the Kauai Revealed book from cover to cover. The app is the book and so much more. We just spent 3 weeks exploring the island with the app. First of all, Andrew’s narration is hilarious while being well paced, historically interesting and spot on with what Kauai is all about. We saw and did things that we would not have discovered on our own. The cost is cheap for all that it offers to make a visit packed with adventure. Informative but was repetitive after a whileDownloaded this during our 10 days stay in Kauai. My boys (10 & 12 yr olds) would tell us to “turn on the guy!” as soon as we’d get in the car. It was like having our very own tour guide. However, toward the end of our trip and after we’ve explored everything around us and we’ve driven down the same roads, the narrations started to get old. Informative and FUN!We did many fun things during our 6 days on Kauai, including my first ever time scuba diving. But the best over-all day was starting early in the morning (which is easy to do thanks to the roosters) and driving ALL over the island being guided by Andrew’s narration. Excellent appCell service (which directly relates to Apple Maps or Google Maps) is pretty awful in a lot of the places on the island of Kauai. This app was a lifesaver helping us get around. The navigation help was great but we also especially enjoyed all the stories and the historical information. Faulty expensive app and no supportThis app was delightful and we thoroughly enjoyed it until it stopped working 40 mins in. It insisted I had to purchase to continue, which I had done a week previously, no matter what I tried. Later that night, I deleted the app, reloaded it and this morning it worked perfectly for 30 mins until it didn’t, again. I called the help/support number provided where it was suggested to text the same number as phone messages are less reliable. I left a voicemail and text and 9 hours later I have not received any response. I have lost 2 days use of this $25, non-functioning app and, I am not hopeful for the remainder of my time on Kauai.
