Dawncaster: Deckbuilding RPG App Comments & Reviews

Dawncaster: Deckbuilding RPG Positive Reviews

Excellent!I’m loving this deck builder so much, I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase expansions or maybe a variant on the gameplay formula such as a Sci-Fi Fantasy or possibly a Cyberpunk theme, if the Developer considers it. From playing various other card games, this game mostly reminds me of Ascension, MTG, and Fate Hunters. What works for me here is that I can play at it at my own leisure, solo without any human competition. The game has high replay value as you get to level up and unlock various items among the 7 classes you can choose from. Dying on your first few runs is not a penalty but rather a means of learning what your facing up against when it comes to the enemies you’ll encounter and the various card types you can choose from or whether or not you should accept certain cards as you’re building your deck. NO IAP IN ORDER TO PROGRESS IN THE GAME. It’s a pure premium game that screams the quality most mobile gamers are searching for. The atmosphere, music, sound effects, and artwork stand out and are very well done. I highly recommend it if you’re a fan of deck building games. It didn’t take me long to pick up the game’s first expansion, after doing a few runs. Trust that you will lose track of time playing it. Pure fun!.Version: 1.3.15

Want to like but either buggy or overly complicatedI like so many things in this game and want to feel like I’m making progress, but little things keep cropping up that kill my runs. 1 time I took a card that wasn’t labeled as uncommon and it killed my ‘common only’ card requirement on a card. Didn’t figure out the problem until 2 combats later and then I was dead. Perhaps that’s my fault but that kind of info needs to be front and center if it impacts your deck (and this was a special card selection screen, not the standard post battle one so there were no fancy light effects), but that’s just one example. One time my healing card didn’t work. Another I got no energy at the start of a turn. Another the effects of my enchantment didn’t work for one turn. None of these are big, but at higher difficulties, not getting a bonus on the turn you’re expecting a bonus leads to game over. I also have no idea why there needs to be so many key words. I end up just building my decks around basic cards because too many cards have these rare key works, making them unworkable. And basic cards are so powerful in late game (with powerups) that it feels almost pointless to get other cards. I’m not great at this game but I keep having these bad experiences the further I get. Loved the game for the first week, but now just frustrated with it.Version: 1.11.08

Best game on iOSI play a lot of deck builders, it’s one of my favorite genres. I’ve spent ample time in Slay the Spire, Monster Train, Pirates Outlaws, Breach Warderes, Dungeon Maker, and many others. Dawncaster is the best of the best and it’s the game I keep going back to. There are hundreds of builds. Some can be overpowered if you get lucky on the RNG, some will make you struggle. Most of the critical reviews will amount to “it’s too hard.” They’re not wrong, the game is very difficult (even on normal), but each time you go through a round, you get some experience used to unlock new weapons, skills, and perks of each class. As for the price, it’s more than worth it even without the DLC. Adding the DLC is optional, and adds various other cards, builds, and abilities. I’ve purchased every possible upgrade to support the devs and have spend hundreds of hours in Dawncaster. I’ve spent less time per dollar on this than any triple A title released in the last 10 years..Version: 1.13.00

Excellent game, active communityNo microtransactions or ads! This game is challenging, highly engaging, and can be played one-handed. It strikes an intriguing balance between randomness and player control. Progression is linear from low to high numbered areas. Each combat area includes an encounter deck that consists of Enemies, Shops, Rests, and fleeting Opportunities. The player is presented with 3 cards from the encounter deck (similar to Night of the Full Moon) and must choose 1 to proceed. Each combat area has a boss at the end. Combat consists of playing cards. Each card had an energy color and cost. The player can generate energy in different colors based on stats (Dex, Int, Str). Pay the energy costs to play the cards. The enemy also has energy and a small deck of cards. Enemy actions are telegraphed by the cardback icons. Beware of black cardbacks! Upon victory, the player is presented with gold, XP, and 3 cards. Choose 1 card to add to your deck or skip. After the player XP bar fills, the player gains a Talent. Talents are ongoing passive effects. Talents may increase a stat, upgrade card damage, add or remove combat status effects, etc. I have played this game from early iterations and have now come to expect the developers to recognize, respond to, and incorporate good suggestions into future updates. The Discord (linked in the app) is an active and helpful place. Though the game is single-player, the Discord community adds a social element..Version: 1.3.07

Excellent designFantastic card design and class unlock design. Kept me playing all the way through full class unlocks because each one made new card synergies possible. A couple of tweaks I would like to see: Quests auto refresh once completed and one run in which completed is over. With so many cards, shop size should be larger. Maybe each level the selection increases. Single color runs are much more 1 dimensional than dual color runs—this is because of the transmuting mechanic. There are limited epics and legendaries to transmute into for single-color. There are 3x as many for dual color. Since the most powerful cards shape the deck, that means 3x the variety in dual color runs. Perhaps fix this by allowing me to pick the color to transmute into before showing the three cards. That way if I’m blue but am looking for a blue-green card to complement my deck, I can get a shot at it when transmuting..Version: 1.7.09

Very good but game breaking bugIf you read this, this probably won’t affect you and you should definitely try out this game. But to the devs, I left the game while the card upgrade thing was going on, and I when I restarted the game(also after downloading the new update) now the game won’t so anything. It opens up, and brings up the area title card, but it does nothing from there. It also doesn’t save, since the run duration keeps resetting every time I go back to the menu. Please fix this, as I had a rally good run going, and was literally about the face the final boss. My thoughts would be that some variable to spawn the cards never got turned off or on? Like maybe the game thinks it’s still waiting for me the select a card to upgrade, so it doesn’t spawn them in? Just food for thought. Edit: Well, I gave up on the run, but thanks anyways for fixing it! Hope you have a great day!.Version: 1.4.17

My favorite phone game by farI have spent probably 300+ hours on this game. I'm still discovering new builds, and that's the aspect of this game that I like the most. The developers are out of this world with regards to updating and balancing the game. From the discord, it is clear that they are very involved and receptive to feedback. I whip this game out whenever I’m in line, whenever I need to pass time, whenever I’m bored in bed, bored at work, etc. The game itself is balanced. For the most part. Hard difficulty is indeed hard, and impossible difficulty is appropriately satisfying. The game requires that you really do need to have at least some level of knowledge to really thrive at the higher difficulties, but the learning curve is appropriate. I’ve zero hesitation to buy any future expansions. The gameplay itself is very satisfying, and the animations and speed/responsiveness leaves nothing to be desired.Version: 1.8.08

Solid deck builder!!It’s good fun! I’ve put ~10 hours into it since I got it last week. It hits all the fun synergy building high notes. It has a huge number of mechanics and ways to bridge between them (kinda like how sts’s envenom bridges the multi-hit and poison mechanics, but even more interconnected). There’s so much to unlock! So much content I can’t wait to get into! Design critiques: - The UI regarding menu advancement is inconsistent. Sometimes it’s on an unskippable timer, sometimes it requires a tap, sometimes it’s timed or by tap. This leads to me sometimes accidentally pressing options I don’t want, skipping ones I do want, and staring dumbly at the screen waiting for it to auto advance (while it waits for me to tap) - Some keywords get a helpful pop up explaining what they do… and some don’t. All of them should! - Perhaps I’ve just gotten really lucky with my builds, but I feel like enemies lack ways to disrupt my engine / make me think outside the box. There’s an abundance of removal, and my deck gets manicured to a point where I can just mindlessly play cards. It leads to them feeling like they lack unique mechanical identity, when perhaps they really do have it but I haven’t noticed because I haven’t been forced to engage with it. Maybe there’s more of this in the harder difficulty modes and I just haven’t gotten to it!.Version: 1.12.12

A top tier Slay the Spire clone that outclasses it in almost every wayThis game has more classes, more cards, a better story, and similar but more diverse gameplay than the game that I assume is its main inspiration (Slay the Spire). While StS is an amazing game and absolutely embodies the spirit of a roguelite card RPG, it is lacking in its content and doesn’t seem to get as much support from it’s developers as it should. Dawncaster takes everything that’s amazing about StS and cranks it up to 11. If you played StS and enjoyed it, buy this game. If you’ve never played a deckbuilder, dungeon crawler, roguelite or otherwise, buy this game. If you just want something chill to do at work that plays in portrait mode so that your boss doesn’t realize you’re gaming on the clock, you know where I’m going with this: BUY THIS GAME!!!.Version: 1.12.08

Like Magic the Gathering had a baby with Slay the SpireAs a rouge lite deck building junky, video game lover, and developer I have to give mad props on this impressive deck builder. The fast paced combat reminds me of slay the spire, and makes it easy to hop on and off. A lot of key words on the cards and beautiful card art that takes a mtg/hearthstone approach to combat. Tons of content, classes, and monsters. There are in app purchases, but you don’t need them to enjoy the experience and the game is always getting maintenance. The only thing that bummed me out is that this is only mobile and doesn’t get the shine it deserves. TLDR this is a super impressive and fun game . I’ve been on the look out for a deck builder that’s on par with slay the spire/monster train for a while now, and now I think I’ve found one..Version: 1.10.05

Great Deck BuilderGame is a blast to play over and over again, trying different builds and going to different areas. Regular updates add free cards to the game and paid expansions add areas, enemies, and new quests. Love the art as well, great card graphics and enemy design is on point, love unique small bosses you can encounter throughout the journey on top of the area bosses all bring together a fun challenge throughout your run. I will continue to support the devs who listen to their community and put out quality content regularly. Always find myself coming back when I see a new card pack is out or a new expansion is available for me to buy and play. Great work! I’m not into deck builders, but I’m certainly into this game..Version: 1.12.01

The perfect game... For a small audienceI've played this game to death for about a year and have enjoyed earlier versions, but the long term vision for this game isn't what I enjoy in a deck builder. You should bee aware of that vision before making a purchase because the game will continue to move in that direction. From the discord, the developer has a vision for this game as one which offers a large variety of cards in which most runs end in failure. From the posts it seems like they feel that a 10% success rate is about right. It is also clear that the developer feels that "hard" game design means not only that you must master game mechanics but also be lucky to gain workable synergies and win (note: you can play on "story" difficulty in which it is impossible to lose. This is an option if you want to win even without a deck synergy--if you find that fun). The dev has been very active in making adjustments to achieve their vision and I would expect that to continue. I commend their integrity for pursuing what they want the game to be. Those who enjoy a punishing roguelite that rewards mastery of mechanics but sometimes still gates a successful finish behind lucky draws will find this the perfect game with many hours of enjoyment ahead..Version: 1.6.04

Awesome DeckbuilderHello love the game and the fact that you support it with updates and expansions. My only constructive criticism is that the difficulty curve between “normal” and difficult is too steep. If anyone from developers team is reading this I would suggest try playing maximum level Arcanist. With this class on normal difficulty I am able to wipe the floor with enemies. But on Difficult setting the balance seems way too much bias in the enemy’s favor by the third stage. Try playing for yourself and see. It needs serious tweaking by not much honestly IMO lowering the damage by a 1-8 would make a difference. Thanks for creating a great game and would suggest you continue to make DLC for this title because it has great replay ability..Version: 1.4.19

One of the BestI am very glad to have stumbled upon this great game with amazing dev support. The game is simple enough to jump into, but there are plenty of interesting mechanics that keep the game fun. I'm also a huge fan of the design. I've been playing similar games for the last few years - Roguelite deckbuilders are one of my favorite genres but it's been tough finding one with good support and replayability. I have found a few good ones out there but they seem to have been forgotten about, not having received updates in months/years. This is not only one of the best mobile games I've ever played but the care and attention the developer puts into this is unlike anything I have seen before..Version: 1.8.03

Better than non-mobile deckbuildersI have literally never bothered to leave a review for a game before, but this one deserves it. An absolutely superb game, mechanics and design wise this is comparable and in a lot of areas even better than its non-mobile counterparts. Ive played quite a few deckbuilders and Im hard pressed to think of one Ive enjoyed more than this one. I find myself invested in a run for hours and playing with as much attention and thought as if I were playing a game on my pc or playstation. The amount of content you get for the price of a coffee is very praiseworthy and shows that this developer cared more about delivering a quality game than a money printer. Buy it.Version: 1.9.02

An absolute hidden gem!I've been playing this game for about 3 months now and I'm absolutely obsessed with it. It's the type of game you can play for 3 minutes when you need to kill some time, or 3 hours if you want. The animation is beautiful, the classes are unique, the cards are so varied and have so many different synergies and builds you can play with every run. The one and only downside is that while every run is randomized, most of the story elements you encounter along the way are the same every time. But for me, I don't play these types of games for the story so it doesn't bother me too much. If you're looking for a fun and addicting roguelite, look no further..Version: 1.8.13

Top notch!A rogue-lite deckbuilder with masterful gameplay mechanics and art. The dev team is engaged with players and updating content on a constant basis; recently there was a free (and brilliant) card expansion. The game has enormous replay value- there are 6 “classes” with numerous unlockables, and the card and “level up bonus” pool is deep enough to make every run different. If you want difficulty, the enhanced difficulty settings can provide a formidable challenge. Overall, this is an incredible value for the price. Hundreds of hours of gameplay if you want it, and more content on the way. As a 1000+ hour Slay the Spire player, this is by far my favorite mobile game of all time..Version: 1.4.08

One of the best deck-builders on any platformIt blows me away, how incredibly well made and well balanced and well designed and freaking fun this game is. in my opinion, this has to be one of the best deck building games on any platform. I kinda can’t believe it’s a mobile game. There’s no doubt that the developer puts so much care and love and attention into every detail of the player’s experience. There are improvements being made all of the time that make an already fantastic game even better. if you like this style of single player deck building game then this is the one to get. there’s so much depth to the game and I’ve barely scratched the surface. bravo, bravo!.Version: 1.11.08

Cards are buggedI’ve been playing rogue, and cards that read “will trigger ambush as if it were first card played” simply fail to trigger ambush. Lookout and the enchantment in particular (the one that will trigger ambush after gaining evasion). The enchantment only seems to work on cards that simultaneously gain evasion and ambush, but if you play a single card that gains evasion followed by a single card that has ambush, ambush will not trigger. New bug, i saw a 5-blue mana cost appear at the start of a hag fight (just after succubus), with text saying something like “this is just a test to see how wide a card is..” something like that. Fight wouldn’t continue and game crashed. It happened just after i added a spell card to a warrior deck w/the talent that gives a zero cost copy. Also, discord links do not work. I click on them and don’t join any channels..Version: 1.0.6

Honestly really solid, lots of replay valueIf you’ve played Slay the Spire, Across the Obelisk, or any of the other roguelike deckbuilders to release in the last few years, you will recognize their influence on Dawncaster immediately. There’s a huge amount of build variety if you’re the type of player that really likes to experiment with different strategies. This is the real meat of the game in my opinion at the moment. My only real complaint is that the overworld event/combat deck which deals your options out instead of a map to click through is arguably the game’s most interesting and distinguishing feature, but also where it runs up against itself. It’s not always clear when a dialog or event choice is purely fluff or related to a consequence. This is fine the first couple times you run an event or dialog chain, but it quickly becomes a process of trying to memorize the right answers. I’m still finding it a great game to unwind with, and it’s neat to see it receiving new content and support. Happy to support these devs..Version: 1.12.02

Best deck builder on mobileI’ve been playing Dawncaster for a long time now. I’ve seen it grow and improve and have loved it every step of the way. There are many classes that you can chose from and each one feels different and unique. The game also doesn’t force you to play a certain way, all play styles are welcomed and experimenting is encouraged. The game plays in portrait mode (HUGE PLUS) as I won’t play games in landscape mode. Overall this game will keep you entertained for hours upon hours and it’s only a few dollars. Worth every penny and worth every minute spent playing it. Thank you Reyality for making such an enjoyable game for us..Version: 1.4.19

Great deck builder, surprisingly so for mobileLots of content, different mechanics for each class to build around. Probably the best mobile game I've ever played because it's fully featured and deep, nice visuals, and many mechanics. If you've played slay the spire, it will feel quite familiar. Quite a lot of mechanics that you can build around relative to some other deck builder roguelikes I've seen on mobile :) Cons: - A bit slow for experience unlocks of new starting options - Can feel a bit limiting in terms of cards you use because you can't really set up a deck around certain mechanics (e.g. souls). At least not with the initial decks.Version: 1.7.09

[Update] Dawncaster is a Gem, Despite Minor HiccupsJust recently purchased this debut game from Wanderlost, and I have been enjoying it greatly. It’s been awhile since I’ve played a new mobile game from a new developer, and with Dawncaster, I’m glad I gave it a chance. Although there are a few writing errors and the occasional glitch, they are (as of yet) inconsequential to the overall enjoyment of the gameplay. I’m looking forward to future updates and how this game will be further refined. [Update: So, I’ve messed around with the difficulty settings and discovered that the “Story” setting does not work as listed. Characters still die once HP reaches 0. Needs addressing.].Version: 1.0

Hooked from the startI normally don’t write reviews for games, but this one is an exception. I was looking for a rogue-like card game and came across this as a suggestion. Read the reviews, looked at the pictures, decided to give it a shot. Needless to say I’ve been hooked ever since. I’ve been playing this for months now and I’ve never gotten bored of it. There’s endless replay value, it’s tough enough to make you think about how to build your deck to win, but not hard to the point where you’re going to bang your head against the wall. 10/10 would recommend.Version: 1.8.00

Excellent, Excellent game.I can’t overstate how impressed I am by this game. Excellent deckbuilding mechanics with RPG elements and lots of different varieties of gameplay. Good sound design, solid music, great art, tons of replayability all for a decent price. The game can get a little repetitive if you don’t download the DLCs but they are very appropriately priced and definitely worth picking up after awhile if you enjoy the base game. I will definitely be on the lookout for other games by this developer. Very few games scratch the “slay the spire” itch well without completely copying it but this game does so very well..Version: 1.5.13

Worth your time AND your moneyI’ve put a couple hundred hours into this game since it’s launch on iOS and without a doubt it’s one of the best games released on a mobile platform. Somehow the developers have pretty well balanced all of these different class to fit different play styles. In a world where gaming companies have actively worked to exploit the worst tendencies in people in order to extract vast sums of money, these guys make a simple well crafted product that will stand the test of time. Everyone should support passion projects like this!.Version: 1.5.12

Dawncaster has confirmed that looks can be deceiving! When I first saw this app in the App Store and saw that it wasn’t a free app I thought to myself I’m not sure if it’ll be fun (most paid games in my opinion aren’t) but I gave it a try anyways. As I played more and more I began seeing just how much of a gem this game is. The game is well balanced and so incredibly fun. For a mobile game I think it well deserves a 5 star rating. I found myself playing this game for a few hours on end. It’s thrilling and entertaining at the same time. This was well worth the money!.Version: 1.0.7

So goodI had basically given up on finding good games in the free to play wasteland that is the App Store. But Dawncaster is absolutely fabulous. Worth every penny, and up there with great deck builders like slay the spire and monster train. The amount of card variety and build options is huge, with lots of character classes to choose from and a very clever system for multi-classing. My only gripe is that there are lots of misspelled words and typos like missing apostrophes. But that’s a minor quibble for an otherwise great game. Pick it up!.Version: 1.10.05

Pretty cool 3.7 starsI just started playing; the game seems very cool so far. However, i noticed a mechanic missing that I had been used to in pirates outlaws where you can separately target yourself and enemies, and even put "beneficial" effects on enemies for a unique combination... I immediately feel like this is better than that popular "spire" game which, I think is awful having been spoiled by the clever, complex & addicting gameplay of pirates outlaws; spires has a pleasing aesthetic but awful and much less balanced, less complex gameplay than pirates outlaws. i will update this..Version: 1.8.12

My new favorite rogue-like gameHonestly didn’t think anything would top Slay the Spire or Monster Train for me. This one is unreal. I did not like it at first, but once I finally had a good run, I was hooked. Six classes that will reward quite the grind to get them all max unlocked. It rewards grinding as opposed to demanding it like many other games. I hope that one day it comes to PC because I would probably play it even more if it wasn’t limited to mobile devices..Version: 1.13.00

Fun but FrustratingI’ve spent quite a bit of time in Slay the Spire and Night of the Full Moon, so I feel like I have some experience in the genre. This game just feels like it’s not quite there. I’m not sure why the “Normal” rogue like difficulty serves you up the exact same story dialogue and scenarios every single game. Yes I’ve met this merchant before. No I don’t need to see the intro. I think better difficulty scaling or leaning into the rogue like aspect of runs would make more sense to me. One aspect that I like is the energy system, which makes builds feel unique. It’s an interesting twist on the class based systems of other deck building games..Version: 1.1.4

My favorite gameI have a lot of games but this is my favorite game. It works great with the iPhone in portrait and iPad Pro in landscape (I’m using a Magic Trackpad 2.) So much content and so many challenges. Like Dead Cells, you play the same story initially and it branches. It is a roguelike (turn based) in the truest sense, so after death you level up toward more unlockables, abilities etc. The developers are constantly updating the game and interacting with us players in Discord. This is a model for what a good game and development is like. Keep in mind, for iCloud it saves characters permanent achievements so all their leveling, rewards, talents, etc. You will be playing different runs on different devices but whatever you do it’ll contribute to your meta-progress, which is fine. I’m so impressed I purchased all the DLCs and the tip for coffee. :).Version: 1.6.03

Great, engaging deckbuilder with unique mechanicsThis deckbuilder is one of the best I’ve played in some time! There are the classic, single-color classes that can focus on a number of strategies, but the addition of multi-colored classes is a game changer. There’s a huge amount of versatility and creativity even with the randomness of rewards and encounters. If you’re interested in a challenge (Meteorfall and Slay the Spire come to mind) with a little bit of MTG and the ambiance of Diablo, you have found the right game. Happy building!.Version: 1.5.06

Best roguelike on iPadBetter than slay the spire or monster train. Makes FTL seem easy, well supported and balanced in the way players like (can chase that high roll). Provides hours of fun trying to unlock everything and endless hours of replay ability afterwards. Did I mention that any time you think you’re over it they launch an update? Def worth getting for anyone that’s a fan of deck building rougelike games. Can’t recommend enough.Version: 1.9.00

Fantastic GameIf you enjoy deck builders give this a go. Fair upfront pricing, no micro transactions or other nonsense, just a solid game with active development and awesome devs. The difficulty curve can be a bit extreme so I recommend starting on normal if you are experienced with the genre and going from there once you have identified comfortable strategies. There are a lot of surprising combos and depth that you can pull off once you start to understand card interactions and events. Enjoy!.Version: 1.4.10

Best Deckbuilder on iPhoneTons of fun unlocks, gorgeous art, and a “pay once” cost model. I bought all the expansions and have more than gotten my money’s worth of fun. Each run is different and I enjoy making new builds and trying out various card combinations. It has a learning curve and requires flexible thinking to take advantage of the cards you find. I now hardly lose on normal, but find the harder difficulty levels challenging..Version: 1.6.08

Quality game, well worth the price.I played the game for about two hours before it sold me on buying the dlc pack too. I’ve been put about 15 hours on it over the past few days. I imagine I’ll have well over a 100 hours minimum playing this game. That’s ten cents per hour of entertainment. Movie tickets are like twenty bucks for an hour or two. So much value and replayability in this game..Version: 1.4.19

Irritating bugI’ve watched my health bar drain to zero twice now after ending my turn. This happened both times for no possible reason except that maybe I was playing while app auto-updated and became incompatible with newer version. Still, a warning would be nice. It’s a huge waste of time when a game of higher difficulty can take up to 3 hours or more!.Version: 1.4.05

Best game on App Store! This game has been on my phone since the release of the first expansion. I came looking for more games like Slay the Spire, and I found gold. It has everything: fantastic growth, so many possibilities for each run, and the classes feel unique, yet nothing hard to understand. I have purchased every expansion since I got this game simply because I want to support the team more. The work they put into this game is what every person wished others would do. The only thing I will say I wish was in the game was more classes ( I have played a lot, and so I want more ) But I have to admit I am not even sure what else you could add as they have everything. Thank you for this fantastic masterpiece..Version: 1.11.09

It’s Worth ItNot gonna lie I hate buying games especially ones with dlc but this is one of the best mobile rouge likes I’ve played although it’s a bit grindy but we’ll worth it as it’s challenging 100+ cards No ads Each character has multiple builds and weapons you can focus around Detailed Great detailed art and story And even though I’ve beaten the game a few times I keep playing, I’ve had this for a couple months and it’s easily my favorite app game as I’m still finding and unlocking new cards and builds. I can tell just how much the creators have put effort into the game and love it even buying all the DLC (there’s 3 and some supporter stuff) deff worth it if you like card rouglikes such as slay the spire 10/10.Version: 1.8.11

Fun but I hate Rogue type games…I can’t dock stars for a personal preference… Excellent game design and balance. I would pay 2x more for an RPG game that wasn’t pseudo progression like Rogue-like, lite and all these “rogue clone” fads. After 1 game I realized welp thats about it…RPG’s have always been about character development and story progression. When my character evaporates so does my motivation to play again I guess Rogue games cater to the Tinder mindset wham bam thank ya mam….Version: 1.4.17

Wonderfully Replayable!Best game I’ve experienced on my phone. I’m a slay the spire and monster train veteran. I prefer this on the phone for its interface and, just something else, lots of paths to victory. Lots of challenges on high difficulty too. DLC really fun too. For devs: see if you can implement some AI for choose your own adventure style pathing, items, unique conversation options. Game would be unreal..Version: 1.10.05

My favorite card rouge-like.It’s the only one where I’ve put a 8+ hours into my first play through. It’s engaging and very well done. Idk what it is but I enjoyed this one more then any of the others I’ve tried(almost all the other card rouge-likes available). I hope they continue to build on it and perfect it. Good job guys, please don’t give up on this..Version: 1.3.10

Simply the best. Would love more expansions.Other than maybe slay the spire this is the best mobile game I’ve played. Bought both “expansions” and have been playing non stop. Not even close to unlocking all the different ways to play not gone into the higher difficulties. I wish more studios would follow this way to design. The quality is top notch..Version: 1.7.09

Worth every pennyHigh replayability. Good graphics and design. NO microtransaction and no ads. A very complete list of cards with interesting synergies. Honestly everything Inexpected and more..Version: 1.12.09

Very good deck builderI have played Slay the Spire to death (over a hundred hours for sure), same thing with Pirates Outlaws and a bunch of other rogue deck builders. This game completely scratches that itch and then some. I love how the developers incorporated rpg elements in the three potential starting basic “mana” types along with a possible the fourth one that takes a bit more to earn. I am only rating it 4 stars for now as I have maybe spent about fifteen to twenty hours in game so far. If my engagement keeps up, this is definitely a five star game..Version: 1.12.11

Hands down the best card battler appSingle player with loads of interesting growth and options, so you never get ground down to only playing 2-3 meta decks. Great story and deep world building. Constant development. NO MICROTRANSACTIONS!! You can choose to buy expansions or not, but progress is never hampered by that decision. It can be a slog to start unlocking cool stuff, but once you get rolling, this is the final word in card-driven iOS gaming..Version: 1.11.09

Very good gameGood card game. Worth for the price..Version: 1.11.09

The best deck builder with great devsIf you liked slay the spire, monster train, night of the full moon, dominion etc. get this game asap. I prefer Dawncaster over all of the others now. Also the developers are amazing, they’re constantly adding free updates with over hundreds of new cards. All of the paid expansions are great too! Highly recommend dawncaster, it’s an amazing addictive game!.Version: 1.11.09

Solid card play but repetitive designI really enjoy the card play, drafting options, art style, and the fact that I don’t have to turn my phone to play the game. The one negative I have is that It’s not obvious what the statues will do. Sometimes it makes you change a card other times it upgrades it… it should be clear what it will do before you decide to use it..Version: 1.11.01

Really fun and deepIf you like slay the spire you will love this game..Version: 1.10.05

Best since slayThe spire.Version: 1.8.13

Top-tier deckbuilding adventure!Everything about this game is too notch. The dialogue options, the artwork, the card synergies, the difficulty curve and more. It has quickly become my favourite card game on the App Store, and I can’t wait to play through the expansions.Version: 1.6.08

GemThis is how all iOS games should be designed. Really great value. Doesn’t need the expansions to be 5 stars as there is lots of content. I’ll end up buying them once I’ve got a handle on the base game though..Version: 1.6.05

BrilliantHats off to the creators , they really have done something special with this one 😄.Version: 1.6.02

Even better than Slay the SpireThis is one of the best card-based games I’ve had the pleasure of playing. There’s a surprising amount of depth, a great learning curve, plenty to unlock, including key cards to introduce new strategies, and immense replayability. This game has drawn me in over the last month, and has easily become my most-used app. The production values are also top notch, and everything from the animations, to the sound, even to the patch notes, show that this is a developer who truly cares about providing a top class experience. I’ve bought both expansions, and am eagerly awaiting whatever comes out next..Version: 1.5.18

Very well thought deck building game!If you have any interest in deck building games this one is a no brainer. Beautiful artwork, nice music, the lore is great. Combat and synergy is a delight. Two thumbs up. Congrats to the devs!.Version: 1.5.07

Excellent game and some of the best value for money you can get on the App StoreI’m a big deckbuilder fan generally (I’ve spent hundreds of hours on Slay the Spire/Dominion/Netrunner etc) and was surprised this game hadn’t already been on my radar. I’ll just get right to it - this game is fantastic, and the amount of replayability on offer is staggering for the price point. Possibly the only better deckbuilder on the App Store is of course Slay the Spire itself but it’s hard to compete with the game that basically popularized roguelike deckbuilders. I will say that the mechanics might take a bit to understand, especially for players who haven’t tried Spire or similar games. There are a ton of status effects to learn, different ways of ‘solving’ bosses and encounters, and despite the helpful tooltips everywhere it will still take a few playthroughs to feel comfortable (and that’s okay!) Some players might also find the difficulty off putting at first but that’s true of any good roguelike. I also do think there are some mild balancing tweaks that could be made (I’ve been broadly unimpressed with Divinity cards, feel that Brittle breaks a lot of the game, and find that the Dazed status effect counters a few too many deck types, though granted I’m only ~10-15 hours in) but it seems the devs are very actively updating the game with changes and new content. I also love the mechanics behind different energy types and the fact that energy is conserved across turns - adds a ton more depth to the gameplay. Also of note is the art style and attention to detail. I adore that each enemy has a deck of their own for you to learn, complete with art specific to them. It also means that the upper limit on game knowledge is quite high, which makes putting in time feel rewarding. Having multiple different classes with their own play styles, art design, and unique starting decks is also great, and I really like that there’s open crossover between cards (eg being able to buy Arcanist cards as a Knight). For Spire players - think Prismatic Shard, unlocked from the get go. Can’t praise this game enough and I’m excited to see where the devs take it. There’s a clear love for deckbuilders that went into this and it’s really wonderful to experience. A price point below 10 dollars almost feels criminal to the devs for how much content it provides..Version: 1.5.03

Super addictingI rarely write a review but this game is beyond fun. At first I thought it was too hard, but as I started reading the cards more carefully and understanding the mechanics, I was able to start moving forward. There are a few balancing issues still depending what class you choose and with certain enemies you encounter. Overall this has become my new addiction…to the point I might have to delete it haha!.Version: 1.4.19

.Updates are great!.Version: 1.3.04

Very good!Nicely done!.Version: 1.0.2

Diamond in the RoughThis has great potential. Meaningful character differences. Love the aesthetic—too many cartoon “rpgs” out there! Similar play to “Night of the Full Moon,” which is a good thing. Very difficult though; could use some rebalancing and/or more healing potential. Also, my biggest complaint: Rogue-likes without some mechanic for growth (even from a failed run)... aren’t fun for long. With some updates, could be my favourite game!.Version: 1.0.6
