Best of the best!This app replaced dozens of guitar AND bass reference books for me and since I like experimenting with alternate tunings it definitely has been my most valuable tool. The ability to make chord sheets alone is worth the price. I have searched and searched over the years and no other app has come even remotely close to the layout, ease of use, sound and style. I have used it for learning and practice almost daily for probably 10yrs and at least 4 iPhones. Usually for several hours at a time too. It has never crashed or given me false tuning readings(what? I blame the operator lol). So with regard to the the 1star reviews - they either have ulterior motives, didn’t give it a chance or like paying for expensive subscriptions because GuitarToolkit is unbeatable. In those ten years the only thing that I could think of that it can’t do is stick a printable scale diagram or two on my chord sheets. Other than that, I think it set the bar pretty high since most of the others are only now starting to catch up. Amazing for music theoryWhen I started playing the guitar many years ago, this was what I used all the time. I just realized that I never wrote a review for this this, and I practically use it everyday. For those complaining about the tuner not working. I actually found a weird way to fix it. Go to the fretboard part and press a note around the lower G. Wait a little for the sound to quiet down a little and then go back to the tuner. The phone may screech due to its own feedback if the sound didn’t die down enough. I agree, it’s pretty annoying that the tuner used to be great, but honestly you can find a tuner anywhere, but the ability to identify chords and scales and the huge selection of scales is amazing. It has every scale I have ever heard of except for the Phrygian Dominant (Harmonic Minor starting at the 5th)..CriticalFeelingVersion: 2.6.0

Amazing appThis app is absolutely amazing. I have no idea what everyone’s reviews hating this app is about because this is Literally the only app I fully purchased. I don’t do reviews but I felt the need to do one for this app. it’s absolutely incredible everything you need I will say don’t really care much for the tuner, I have my own. Worth it just for the metronome, chord sheets and the chord building. Not to mention all the instruments they provide. You can step down the guitar to almost any tuning. 4 Cents SharpI started using this App as my main guitar tuner several years ago because I always seem to have my iPhone with me, but apparently I never checked to verify how accurate it is, because just now, years later, I have discovered that this App is consistently tuning my lowest 3 guitar strings 4 cents sharp. The top 3 strings are spot on, compared to other tuners, but not the bottom 3. This happens both acoustically when tuning with the build-in iPhone microphone, and when I plug electrically directly into the iPhone. Any idea why this happens? I know I can shift the reference pitch, but that will only help me half the time. Why would it measure some strings right in tune, but others 4 cents sharp? Still works as good as everUsed this years ago when studying music in school. This was a fantastic resource then and it still is today. Saw some reviews state that the tuner no longer worked and that the app wasn’t worth it anymore. Other than the first time I launched it after downloading it the tuner has worked fine (make sure you give it microphone permissions). Great app. Even after many yearsI was looking on the apple App Store for what the + version offered. Was surprised to see low ratings and negative reviews. I have been using this app for years on iphone and iPad. It is great, tuner and chord diagrams for MANY instruments (even that uke you picked up at the thrift shop). Better than I thoughtI’ve had this app for many years and never used it much until a few days ago when I needed to find some obscure chords (common in jazz) and put together a chord sheet with the diagrams. Works like a charm for those tasks (if you unlock all the features). This app still works in iOS 13 on both my iPhone and iPad. Tuner FixThis is hands down best guitar app ever created. The tuner quit working after last Apple update but there is an easy fix that has worked for me. When tuner is on, press the “I” button which allows you to change between contrast modes. Changes contrast modes two to three times and it should start to work. I love that you can change the instrument from guitar to many instruments and you can see the chords and scales for them all. You can even see different tunings. Best app I’ve ever ver used for ……learning fretboard notes and chord spellings. Miraculous genius. You specify a chord (e.g. Dm6) and it shows you all places to play it on the fretboard. You then practice “spelling”. There’s the root (D). There’s the 6 (B). What’s that? Oh that’s the 5 (A). And there’s the F (3). Toolkit TunerI was also one of those put off by the inconsistency of the tuner. But I love the app, and now that I figured out how to fix the tuner it’s my favorite.- again ! Good App, but has limitations that can misinform your learningFor some reason, this app can not display a double sharp, so certain commonly used chords, like E7(#9), will tell you that the #9 is a G instead of an F## (or Fx). G is a b10 away from E, so their lack of a common naming convention could really confuse someone who is using this app to learn. TunerFirst I want to say I love this app and have used it for many years. Lately I have been having issues with the tuner. It just stopped working. There is no response when I pluck a string. It’s been that way for a few months and I use another app but I think that app is inferior. The other day I decided to try Guitar Toolkit again! I was playing around a little and when I switched to the “full mode” the pick up worked. When I switched back to the mini mode it stopped picking up sound again. So… the next time I needed to tune I tried Guitar Toolkit again, No luck. So I thought I would close the app and restart it. This time “It worked” I’m not sure if there is something I need to do besides making sure that the app setting is set up to allow Guitar toolkit to access to the microphone. Top Notch, a Must for All Theory GeeksEDIT/UPDATED REVIEW: The tuner just doesn’t work anymore. REALLY annoying. Otherwise it’s still… Honestly surprised by all the negative comments. This app is hands down the best music app I’ve ever used. No contest. I’m a 20 year plus musician who can play four of the instruments covered in this app and am ever so grateful for Guitar Toolkit. What happened?This used to be my favorite app of any on my iPad and iPhone. I recommended it to every guitarist I knew. BUT recently, after Apple OS updates, the Tuner stopped working. I’ve written to Agile a couple of times asking if there would be a fix—no response. I am fearing the company no longer exists as there have been no app updates for years (as far as I know). Too bad, a great loss to guitarists everywhere. I would gladly pay for this app again if the tuner worked. But without that very important function, I now need another app on my phone for tuning. I am writing this review to warn new shoppers off if they are looking for an app with a guitar tuner that works. The two stars are for the other great features of this app which I am still sold on. Crashes constantlyI used this for years. I need to find a new tuner app. It crashes constantly. The metronome, scales, etc work but the tuner no longer does. That is what I use most often. I can get the tuner to work only if I do this work around. I click on the i. Then I choose high contrast. High contrast does not work. But when I go back to regular it works— temporarily. As soon as I quit the app and re-start it I have to go through the whole high contrast route again. Needless to say I am NOT happy with this app. My husband now has the same problem. I looked on the internet and a many many people have this problem. They did some update to this app that disabled it. If you are thinking of getting this app think twice. Sadly I don’t like the interface of many of the guitar tuners (They look like they are made for young rockers) so I hope they fix this. Had to buy it twice, crashes, tuner disappearsI originally bought this app a few years back...and then they just quit updating it and removed my version from the App Store, forcing me to re-purchase only a few years after buying the original app. Half the time the tuner tab shows up blank. No tuner, no interface, just a blank grey screen. All of the other tabs will still be working fine...just not the tuner tab - which is what I’m using this app for 99% of the time. Best to worst - App has started letting me downThis was by far the best guitar app ever. I paid $13 for it and was literally my ‘Guitar Toolkit’. Yes….What DID HAPPEN?!?The design guy who wrote the last review was spot on accurate. WoofI paid $10 back for this in the early days of the App Store and I thought it was worth every penny. But it eventually stopped being updated and as of spring / summer 2020 on an iPhone X, iOS 13, the tuner has stopped working entirely. This is profoundly disappointing. Don’t buy itUnbelievable, I used this app for several months to tune all my stringed instruments and one day it just stopped working. This app WAS great. Not anymore.This app was amazingly good when it worked. As a tuner, I bought it a long time ago and the fact that it also had a metronome, guitar chord inversion chart (in an excellent design), and alternate tunings, was icing on the cake. No tuner, no problemI’ve had this app for around a decade now which is a pretty long time.. chord lib array is okay.. metronome function has most everything one would need to practice by themselves and includes the tap tempo function as well which is always nice 👍. However, for whatever reason there is one problem with the marginally accurate tuner [within 1-2 cents I believe] is actually working it sometimes just doesn’t.. there has been no app developer updates or presence, as far as I know. The way to get the tuner working again if there’s no pin in the tuner screen: •touch rhe (i) in the bottom right to access the “Tuner Settings” •then swipe “High Contrast Mode” •if this does not fix the tuner turn the High Contrast Mode off and then on one more time and it should work again at that point. Shady upgrade schemeFirst things first. I don’t like free apps. They annoy me. So if I have the option to buy I do. I purchased this app this morning and before I’d even had a chance to explore the app I’m getting a message to upgrade at 1/2 price for premium. I thought “why not” and went for it. Then, I log into my iPad and get the same offer to upgrade which I just did on another device. There was no mention of the upgrade being locked to a particular device which doesn’t even make sense in the first place, but if there was a warning I would have chosen a separate device. I thought I was paying for premium content but apparently I’m paying to get badgered to access the content I already bought across several devices. The Tuner No Longer WorksI used this app pretty much when I got my first iPhone 3GS. I hadn’t used it much the past year or so because I had my guitar well tuned but then did some traveling and finally a move. I opened up the app to retune my guitar and it no longer works. It registers a sound level but tuner is no longer functional. And it’s really sad because the app offered a metronome, various string instrument settings, and tunings other than just standard. Doesn’t work anymoreI’ve invested in this app from the beginning. I’ve bought into all the options all along the way. Now the tuner doesn’t work! I’m using the free tuner by Fender and I love it. But I’m a professional musician/teacher and I want my old app back. Get rid of the annoying pop-upsEvery time I open this app to tune my guitar , it tries to sell me something i don’t want. This is very annoying. It’s always the same feature upgrade at the same “one-time only price”. My advice to the developers is to stop behaving like penny hawkers. Just stopped working one dayI used this as a tuner and metronome and after several years of working, it just decided the tuner didn’t need to actually display anything. Just a blank gray screen. It was getting audio in from the mic, it just wouldn’t display the notes being played, which makes it worthless. This used to be my go-to tunerHaven’t been playing much lately and had not tried to use this app on my current phone, a 14 Pro Max. Tuner doesn’t even display a needle or indicate anything about pitch detection at all. Other than the green sound meter below indicating that it is using the microphone and detects sound, it doesn’t give you anything on the tuning meter. Tuner won’t work on iOS 16Most of the options will work just fine. I especially love the app for the voicing/chords selections and the very large database of scales used all around the world (some very specific to some cultures too). The only thing, since iOS 16, the tuner isn’t working. For a paid app (when I got this), I must say that I’m disappointed. Just AWESOME app...but…Edit 2023: I used to love this app, evidenced by this long, glowing review below, but it didn’t honour my initial purchase—had to buy again to keep it working—and now it doesn’t work at all. Nice legacy from one of the original iPhone GOATs. David Crosby died today and now I’m out of tune. I think this was the first App I actually paid for (almost two years ago) and I use it more than any other. It has helped me out in many ways: convenience, learning theory and becoming a better musician. You get TUNER, METRONOME, CHORDS, FRETBOARD and "INSTRUMENT" options along the bottom. The TUNER is accurate and the high-contrast mode is great for or bright areas. It's big so you can put it on the floor in a jam--especially when the "other guy" is out of tune and you want to be subtle--and everyone can be in tune. The options on the METRONOME are great. You can adjust the sound, the meter and customize it to various time signatures. Also, if you're writing or recording you can use the "tap" option to find out the BPMs for recording. And the light/silent-mode option is handy. CHORDS: You pick the chord, it shows you how to play it. Easy. Also, it for helps for writing. You know when you "find" a chord you want to use but don't know the name of it? You can find it in the chords option by hitting the magnifying glass and it'll essentially tell you what chord you're playing, helping with theory and finding other open chords that work with it. FRETBOARD: Similar to chords but shows you scales up and down the fretboard. "INSTRUMENT": This is where the "bad name" comes in. Not only can you choose the same options for tuning, chords and scales for different guitar tunings, but you can do the same for 4-to-6 string basses, ukelele, banjo and mandolin.
