Essential to the serious artist. You need it.I should have posted before now. If I had posted earlier, I might have taken a half star off for the need to use a modal transform for layers, but it isn't that hard to adapt, frankly? And I would be adding on the half star anyway, now, because ArtStudio has been on 3 iPads of mine and was essential on each. We have a lot of choices, which I personally like, when it comes to art apps on iPad, but over and over ArtStudio has been the go to app which I use like I use Photoshop on my desktop computer. Photoshop is a must have, and similarly, ArtStudio does the same jobs on my iPad. And it does it in a very familiar and understandable way, if you normally use PS. So even if I get romanced by other apps on my iPad Pro, the images will probably be partially done in ArtStudio, as most images will touch Photoshop at some point when I am working on my Mac. I could list things that I think are great and there are many. But I think it is probably more meaningful to say that I don't think there is anything "wrong" with ArtStudio. Sure, more features, easier to do, I am on board. But ArtStudio is what I go to when I run into a problem doing whatever I want to do elsewhere. And that has been true over 3 well-used iPads. That is a compliment that I don't pass out much. It was the "first installed" art app on iPad #2 and #3. I probably will do so on number 4, if and when that happens. LuckyClan willing. Tool previewer still buggy on iOS 12.1.3I love this app. It’s one of the few I found that has a selection tool and wand like Photoshop and let’s you edit and transform the selection without having to create a new layer. It has masking layers, cloud and render special effects, and I love being able to switch and sample colors just by holding my finger down for a few seconds. It looks like we can create our own custom brushes, too. There are a lot of features I haven’t used yet since I used the free version of the app with its three layers and small canvas size for three years. I felt it was worth buying the upgrade and I don’t regret a penny. :) Now on to the bug report. Since I installed the latest update (January 2019) I’ve been having lagging problems (I bought extra icloud storage so that should not be a problem). The worst bug is the swatch that previews the size and shape of a tool. It has been freezing up even after I make my selection and staying on my screen, hiding my drawing. I’ve had to stop working five times and force close the app to get the previewer to go away, since leaving the app is not enough to unfreeze it. I feel slightly cheated (please read, Luckyclan)I have used this app for all my digital work. I loved the feature where you could share your work to an online gallery. I am an aspiring artist and using this app has been so far a great experience. I bought this for five dollars. Around the summer, the app started crashing. And I don't JUST mean occasionally. It has become more and more frequent, and I'm not the only one with this problem. Whenever I go to save my work, the Autosave takes 3 minutes (should be instantaneous or a few seconds) and if I log out of the app to reload, it will crash and DESTROY my art! The line art will turn into smudged bars or disappear altogether, and the colors will smudge terribly. It happens whenever I have more than 2 layers. And instead of fixing these bugs, Luckyclan INSTEAD creates a new version, this time SEVEN DOLLARS! No way am I paying 7 dollars for another art program when the one I have now should work fine. Fix this, please. I've lost hours and hours of hard work, and I've been devastated about it. I just lost a piece I was working on for someone that had requested it, and I took a screenshot of the gallery and cropped it. It is extremely blurry now. NO ARTIST should have to fear the destruction of their work, especially on such a promising app. Other than the not so recent crashes, I love this app. It has plenty of customizable tools and options. WonderfulWow, it’s great that they’re still keeping this app around. I purchased ArtStudio years ago and it is still on my iPad 4th Generation. I stopped using it only because I purchased the second version called Artstudio Pro and I love that one too. I have cartoon characters on the ArtStudio original app that I created and I’m so happy that I was able to save them to my camera roll for use in my own small comic strips at that time. I think it would be fantastic if there were a special app to place my cartoons in, made by the developers of Artstudio. But I understand that would be a whole other story. If I may, I would like to say that I use an app called Strip Designer for my cartoon strip creations. I do this for my own benefit and enjoyment. I wish I could publish them, but they’re probably not worth publishing anyway. That’s it for now. Get this or the Pro version of ArtStudio, l don’t think you will regret it. AMAZING!I'll admit, I was extremely hesitant to buy this app due to its price, however, I really needed a mobile art software. So, I decided to test my luck and purchase it. That was back in the summer of 2016. I still have that app to this day. ArtStudio is, by far, the best art app on the App Store. I've seen people saying that Auto Desk and their apps are better, but nothing's ever clicked with me more than ArtStudio. I've given up Toon Boom, Photoshop, and FireAlpaca for this app. I absolutely adore it! However, I own a Windows computer, so there's no way to get this beautiful creation onto my desktop. Perhaps if you guys gave a download link for those people who are not fortunate enough to have a Mac, that would be really good for me. I love ArtStudio. Maybe you could make an animation program with the same layout and such with it. It would totally help me, because storyboarding on ArtStudio is kind of torture along with animating, but I can't leave the app behind. Review and SplitView feature considerationMan oh man, where do I start. Well first I have to say that, ever since I had my hands on this app, waaayyy back before I even got my second Ipad or my IPad Pro. This app has changed my life. I was finally able to draw in places outside of my computer and it enabled me to draw most of my art into DeviantArt, and due to the capabilities and features of this app that strongly mimics that of a computer art programmer like Photoshop and Paint Tool Sai, I naturally got a tonne of friends and recognition ☺️ With that being side, I would like to share an opinion on how this could be even greater. If it had the split view feature exclusive to the IPad Pro, applied to it. Awesome Art AppTo preface, I used version 5.98 on an iPad using iOS 9.2.1. This tool is very similar to Photoshop, however, understandably not boasting as many features as Photoshop does, though. It still has many very useful features, including layering, filters, relative ease of use, etc. The biggest issue I had with this app were ones that naturally come with any touch screen-based application, being things such as the issue of some of the screen needs to be used for commands, however, these can be hidden through a simple button on the top right corner. Another issue, however, is the price point. It can be tough to justify spending five dollars on any application, but for one who is serious about creating art and wants to primarily use one’s iPad to do so, this a great tool with lots of great features..Awesome Art App!Version: 5.98

Wonderful!!This app is the only app I can use easily to draw, Photoshop, and more! I've been using this app for a very long time, but I have a few suggestions and comments, though. When you look at pictures from other people on the Online Gallery, it would be helpful to add comments so you can ask how you drew something, ask for/add tips, and more. My favorite, and I’m still a beginner.So I downloaded Art Studio ten years ago. I had never painted, and never on a device. I jumped right in, and quickly jumped out because I did not read the manual. I highly recommend reading the manual. I have learned so much. From brushes to layers to filters and more, it’s an amazing app! I’m still learning and don’t come close to creating outstanding art, but it has worked glitch free for me since it came out. My most indispensable app!!! 😍 🎨 💕UPDATE: As of April, 2019, this is still my most indispensible app. It's a necessity. In fact, I've come back to it after using their Pro version because when cropping older screenshots, this app correctly exports the NEW image with the NEW current date. The Pro version hasn't been doing that, to my dismay, and has left the bottom of my camera roll in a jumbled mess of old dates. So I've switched back to this app, and I'm grateful it's here!!! It's perfect for my needs 😍 PREVIOUS REVIEW: Finally, after working on a project in four other apps, and finding that what I wanted to do was impossible for me in those apps, I found ArtStudio!!! I was able to learn enough about the app to complete my complex project in about an hour, right off the bat. Fandabbatastic app... I love it!I've used Art Studio for many years. Thing is, when other art apps were promoted on my iPad, I admit, I tried them. ArtStudio for iPad...AWESOME!!!This is the finest Art App I am using for my works of art. I have many...some of which I've discarded since using ArtStudio for iPad...yes, it is that good! Everything about it is first class, that can be used by a budding artist, in between artist and/or professional artist. The tools are so realistic, I find myself feeling as if I am creating on a real canvas with real paint and tools. The colors are beautiful and can be blended to perfection...if desired. Sketching and drawing are benefited just as well as painting on ArtStudio for iPad. Layout is very important to me and ArtStudio's suits me extremely well. Everything is easily within reach...and if you do not want to see the tools, colors, etc. they can be hidden until you want them again. Also, you can have several sizes of canvas to choose from. If you choose to try it, there is no doubt you will like it. I would recommend it highly to everyone. For some, it might have a slight learning curve, but be patient with yourself. Great AppI love the Art Studio App! I'm using the IPad Pro with the Apple Pencil which is a great fun tool to work with. But when it comes to the color picker, I prefer to use this app on my oldest IPad using a regular stylus because I can find any color I'm using just by holding down the stylus or my finger on the color and it will choose just the right color I'm working with. It doesn't seem to work right with the Apple Pencil -however if I go to the color picker in the side bar it will choose the color I need but it does not always choose the right one. The color picker in this app works best on my oldest IPad (2013). The color picker doesn't work well in Art Studio at all on my IPad Air (2015.) It works perfectly on my oldest IPad though even though all my IPads have the same IOS-I keep them updated always! This is why I won't get rid of my old one because it works best with Art Studio. Five StarsInterface is great. It's so simple and easy to use. The layout of the menus is the cleanest I have seen. This, to me, makes or breaks an app... This one makes it! The price is very fair for all it does. Jus be patient and do the tutorials. The menu instructions are created with this sketch program and are about as simple as it gets. You will be up and running in no time. You will quickly learn to use TWO fingers to drag the image around because ONE finger draws lines and other commands. Resolution Reduction, a vital feature found nowhere elseI write a daily blog with lots of photos. I’ll take photos with my iPhone or camera. Both have way too many pixels for display on a screen. My blog is 800 pixels wide when displayed on an iPad or PC (The blog is not full screen on a PC, it’s a set width). A photo more than 800 pixels wide is wasted. Art Studio has a unique feature that allows a photo’s resolution to be reduced to save download time. I’ve found no other app with this capability. Really great app, but there's one thing that it needsThis app is really top notch. I think it is one of the most useful app for artists on the App Store. Really robust and feature packed. Reminds me of what I feel that PS touch should have been. But the only real gripe that I have with this app is palm rejection. I would absolutely love to see a setting to turn off finger input on the canvas aside from gestures for panning/zooming/rotating. Sincere Apology:I wrote a very angry and unflattering review a few hours earlier, under the misapprehension that my original app had been hijacked with an inferior “light“ version. THE go-to art and photo-editing app.Art Studio ("A.S.") is what the Photoshop App fantasizes about being. If only I could embed A.S. in my animation apps. Instead, I create each frame of animation in A.S., go to the trouble of saving each, and then import them into my other project apps - thousands of frames...this app is that good, or rather, that necessary. If Animation Creator or Rough Animator had a tenth the features and production accuracy of Art Studio, I would save countless hours of production time. 6 Out Of 5I love this it really helps me with digital art, and hey- I've made some good pieces! I did have a problem quite recently where I changed the canvas size, then the app crashed. Does what Both Photoshop and Illustrator Does!Ok. So the title of this review is a bit of hyperbole, but surprisingly not by much. With this app I can add layers, text, drawings, and edit photos, etc. I use it mostly for practical purposes like creating maps, combining images, making signs, and basically adding things to photos. Crashing a lot latelyThis is REALLY a great art program — versatile and sophisticated — but for two things. Lately it has been crashing on a daily basis. I checked my usage, and I have plenty of available space, so that is not the reason for the crashes. The other problem is the frequency of accidental marks I make when an edge of my hand touches the screen, while I am zooming in/out, or panning around. Everything is great exceptI was finishing up a greet looking picture when I tried to add a picture of a fabric texture for reference. I accidentally chose to 'Import from photos' when I realized that wasn't what I wanted to do. When I tried to undo the action I wasn't able to considering I forgot to save and I lost the picture all together. Help me.I’ve been drawing on this app for years and it is the best app for this type of thing that I’ve come across, but just now something happened. I tried to save something I made and the app saved it but then crashed. I opened it again, tried to open my files, then it crashed. Every time I try to open my files it crashes! I teach art at a school that has supplied students with ipads, of all the incredible art apps out there this is the one we use 90% of the time. My Fav Drawing App - need one touch size/density toolI was drawing on my iPad with SketchBook but prefer ArtStudio much more. Love almost everything, especially the menu setups. Would like to see: 1) a one-touch way to adjust brush size and transparency as in sketchbook. However I like to see the brush size off to the side and not right under my finger. Having to adjust both independently is one step too many. 2) The ability to import a picture layer from the album as in sketchbook. I like to be able to trace lines from pictures as a starting point sometimes. I find this cool as an amateur artist. I really really miss this option and would love to see it. 3) a simpler way to resize the paper size by pinching with 2 fingers and positioning the image inside the paper size with finger movements. That's fine! So I went and tweaked some things so I could add another layer. I did that, and then my app crashed. When I went and opened it again, it would not let me on the app. I tried everything I could, but they all lead to dead ends. So I did the thing I dreaded the most. Deleting and re downloading the app. It's works again, but all of my works that I had yet to complete are all gone. Forever lost. So, if you're a simple artist, go for this app! Get this!This app is exactly what I was looking for, and I've only used it for 10 minutes! The only downside to this app is getting used to how it interprets your finger movements, but still, it does a great job. Once great, but now junkI used this app for years to draw, but recently, I have had issues where it would crash every minute while I’m drawing. I try to save often while drawing, but as the app kept crashing, the files would become corrupted, and I can no longer access it. Good at first.....When I first got this app I thought it was amazing, it has a wide variety of features, many layers, great import system, the works. But after recent updates it’s unusable!
