Rhythm Sight Reading Trainer App Comments & Reviews

Rhythm Sight Reading Trainer Positive Reviews

Great Little AppExperienced musicians can see a rhythmically complex piece of music and just tap it out without much trouble before playing it. Me? I’m not in that group. I need to go over a piece many times before I can play it. I reduce the time I need between first seeing the music and finally playing the notes by practicing with Read Rhythm. I enter the notes into the editor and practice until the rhythm is familiar to me. I have a habit of being a little ahead of the beat in my playing, and can work on that in the app, since it tells you if you are ahead, on, or behind the beat. When I’m done working on a section, I email the results to my music teacher, so we can go over it in lesson. In all, this is a great app for perfecting your rhythm, either through random exercises or by creating your own. I should also add that I had a question at one point about the editor, and the developer answered me very promptly to tell me what I was doing wrong. Not many apps have that kind of service, and I was very glad for the help..Version: 11.05

WowI have tried many music apps in all forms. I began teaching myself piano almost a year ago, though I learned the staff pretty quickly and the common knowledge of the keys, I have struggled with the rhythm and beat. This app is INCREDIBLE, after I post this, I am going to look for a donation spot. It will be the first time I have ever given money to developers, and my reviews on google have thousands, tens of thousands of reviews. This app has SO MANY features. It took me two days to realize there was such a large menu if you click the tiny i in the bottom left corner (iPad pro) and even without me knowing of all the other options it still held my attention and even became a personal mission to pass the rhythms. Its super hard, for me. Practice. Practice. Practice. The TAPPING option is insanely hard for me. Thats exciting though. Some thing I 100 percent can not do, yet.. so it gives me something to work on! Thanks y'all. You did a fantastic job on this app! Please update whenever you add something new! TYA Tara D. Super Fan!.Version: 10.75

BUY THIS!I am a piano teacher and just found this app. All my students are loving it so far and enjoying going through the levels. Which is great because suddenly what used to be homework is now fun! Did you hear that? Fun! Would recommend this for anyone. The only thing I would suggest is the menu system maybe having a revamp as the first opening to to select “fixed levels” or “random levels”. I’d love to start at level 0 for some of my kids and I feel like sometimes it would be hard to explain to them how to get to the ‘random levels’ and would be easier. Overall 5/5 app for how amazing everything runs and even though I teach piano, this is a hard app at some of the higher levels! A must have app..Version: 10.77

Old And NewIt’s now 2022 and much has changed. I now have a new device and I have not been using this app. In fact, I had forgotten all about it. That is, until I happened to come across it while I was looking at my Rhyme-zone app. I might just try it out again, since I have just learned that it has been updated all along. I’m actually very surprised about that, but happy to see it. Previous Review (a long time ago): Helpful and fun to use. The little, round, white circle at the bottom is where to go to find out how it works - look under Support for details. I was confused about note values and how to play them on the piano keyboard. This app helps a lot and is user friendly. There are lots of settings, exercises and progress reports. I am enjoying it and I'm glad I purchased it. I am using this app with the iPad 2. Thanks so much for the app!.Version: 10.98

Fantastic well thought out appI am actually learning how to stay on beat (not ahead or behind!) and read rhythm thanks to this app. These were both major goals for me as a relatively new bass player. Thank you to the developer for all the time you’ve clearly put into this app. There are incredibly extensive exercises in every time signature imaginable. I love being able to quickly adjust metronome setting and choose between being tested or just practicing, both of which offer different supporting sounds. Visual feedback is superb. I like that I can stay at any level of challenge for as long as I want. I highly recommend this app!.Version: 9.40

Perfect for meI am 49 years old and went to music school. Decided to study jazz piano more seriously in my ‘old age’. I had never been great at reading so I am using computers to gain experience quickly. This app is perfect. I stuck it on random exercises and have not looked back. I am on level 6 of 4/4and feel so much better and confident about rhythms. It just keeps throwing new exercises at me and the beauty is I have it set so I have to sight read it 3 times correctly before it says I got it. This is exactly what I was looking for. You can start from the very basics like I did. I can’t think of a better or faster way to learn to read rhythms..Version: 9.64

Everything you could want in a rhythm appWow I’m so grateful for this app. I have struggled with rhythm a lot in my musical journey — mostly when sight reading sheet music and trying to play with other musicians. I just never took the time to clap/count while playing and always learned rhythm by listening to recordings. This app helps you practice with various pre-made exercises and you can even create your own custom exercises. I used it to practice the rhythm of a Bossa Nova song I was working on. There are so many customizations that you can really practice in any way you want and get instant feedback on your accuracy. I haven’t explored all the settings yet. Best of all is there is no reoccurring subscription fee like most apps like this nowadays. Now is the user interface super slick and clean? No, but it’s intuitive enough that you find what you’re looking for pretty easily. A huge thank you to the developer! I’m finally learning how to count properly..Version: 10.80

ExceptionalYou can benefit from this trainer in a day, but you can work on it for years and still get dividends. Thoughtfully assembled. Endlessly varied. There are so many options for unique challenges, you can start the massive book a second or third time with a different focus, and benefit all over again. Frequently updated and improved. Once I had a glitch with a new phone, the developer found a way to fix my problem in a day. Love this app!.Version: 10.89

And FreeThis thing is the latest miracle in my life. Never progressed far enough in my formal training to get good at reading, always felt like math class. Suddenly I’m in a JC concert band and in deep trouble. This is going to save me. The ability to edit your own rhythms allows to create those 2 measures that eluding you and repeat them until you hear them in your dreams. Thanks so much to developers of this amazing tool!.Version: 11.02

Excellent app for figuring out rhythms!I was skeptical at first if this is will serve my needs. Anyway, I took the plunge and found out it doesn’t have 12/8 time. I emailed the developer and he was really quick to respond to my questions and provided me a 12/8 template. Now I’m happy. My favorite part of this app is being able to modify the builtin rhythm exercises to match the music piece I am currently working on. This app really helps a lot. Now on to practice ;-).Version: 9.63

I use this app often!I’ve been using this app to practice different saved rhythms for more than a year now. I’ll use it before a gig to tighten up my feel, and it really does make a difference to use this app as a warm up. Often, I’ll go through different rhythms and continue to test until I perfect it. This has made a dramatic improvement on my sense of timing and rhythm while playing!.Version: 9.90

Highly Customizable & UsefulThis app is great for improving your rhythmic accuracy. The settings allow you to tweak basically every aspect of the app so you can use it however you want. Also, the random exercises are extensive and great for practicing sight-reading. Plus, I emailed the dev with a request for the app and they responded the same day and rolled out an update 3 days later. Incredible!.Version: 10.50

Just What I NeedI’ve had this less than 5 minutes. It’s perfect. I haven’t read music in a very long time. I want to practice. Now I can. I want to compose in complex time signatures. I can feel what I want to write but have trouble finding the right time signature. I’ve had to use noteflight by trial and error. Did I mention this is just what I wanted?.Version: 10.98

Best rhythm app I have come acrossExcellent app with many levels and settings so that it’s a great tool for beginners as well as advanced musicians. Very customizable, every imaginable meter is in there, you can also customize whether to include slurs, rests, etc. Can’t recommend it enough!! The developer shows a real dedication to designing the most comprehensive tool..Version: 10.98

Incredible Developer with an Incredible ProductReally an incredible app I have all of our new percussionist install the app for learning how to play in time. And when I find the app lacking certain obscure rhythms, I email the developer and he quickly responds with a screenshot of a prototype. It’s incredible and a must have app for any musician regardless of if they are a percussionist or not..Version: 10.40

Very helpfulI played snare drum all through middle and high school. And that was *cough* years ago and I was good at reading music again but this app has helped me learn a lot of it all over again especially the notes that were always tricky. I like how there are multiple levels and modifications..Version: 11.01

Read the instructions !This is a great app for learning IF you read the instructions. If you don’t, you will hate it. The developers would benefit from one of those quick 5-screen intros when you open the app. Otherwise I love this tool for teaching me to count music and KNOW if I’m right or not. So hard to do while playing my violin on my own..Version: 9.40

Fantastic Sight Reading App!!!This app is amazing for working on sight reading! I use it to practice and to teach private lessons. It has a very intuitive user interface and is an extremely effective tool for improving your sight reading chops. I highly recommend it for all music teachers and music students..Version: 9.40

Strict!Improves your accuracy Its not easy and you don't want that anyway . You can make adjustments to see and hear downbeat, accented beat, all beats, metronome only in other words about everything Additionally :superlative service. I got lost in the weeds and Rolf stayed with it until I was sure I got it. No developer, in my experience, is this responsive and patient with a old guy. Go get it if you want to know if your skills aren't quite what you thought, or just drill 'till you drop. Thanks Rolf.Version: 11.03

Love this!Long time drummer working on my time. I have my iPad connected to a Yamaha DTX multi 12 with camera connection kit and it works great. I didn’t even have to dig into any settings, it just worked. This is an undiscovered gem. Thanks!.Version: 10.92

Adult learner, Love itI started reading music in my 50s, and rhythm was my biggest struggle. Here are some reasons for my 5-star review: 1. Intuitive interface: Easy to figure out, even if you’re a techno-dumdum. 2. Customizable: You can practice what you want and hear sounds you find pleasant. 3. Reinforcing: Easily understood color feedback and small (not irritatingly long) celebration for accuracy. 4. One-time purchase! (Not a bleed you to death subscription.) Thanks for making this great app!.Version: 10.99

I’m a beginner and...I’m just a beginner and this app has already helped me with sight reading rhythm. It’s pretty much exactly what I wanted for this kind of app. Besides that, the developer updated the app to fix an issue I was having, so I’d say it has great tech support!.Version: 10.72

Fantastic Rhythm ToolThis app is everything I dreamed it could be. It provides instant feedback as to how accurate your rhythms are and the exercises are fantastic. I especially love the two finger tapping option for faster rhythms!.Version: 9.63

Kudos to the developer! This is a wonderful and well thought-out app. I love the options provided for customization, and it has really helped me up my sight reading ability. A joy to work with!.Version: 10.73

The Best Rhythm TrainerI’m a professional musician and teacher and this is the best app I’ve seen for rhythm reading. It would honestly still be worth buying at 5 times the cost but it is a no brainer at the current price..Version: 10.50

Best rhythm sight reading app.Just take my word for it and purchase the app. I'm constantly finding new features that I didn't even know I wanted..Version: 11.04

Underpriced! Get it.For the amount of exercises, you CANNOT beat $3. I saw another similar app that wanted $10 after the free trial. As a somewhat beginner drummer, this is VERY USEFUL. I can practice timing when I’m on the toilet :) 👍🏻 or wherever else I guess...Version: 10.1

This is an amazing app 😀This is a really good app, it helps u with rhythm and beat and it’s great practice for when u are away from the piano.Version: 10.99

Excellent serviceThank you for adding 5/8 time, and for being so responsive to feedback..Version: 10.50

Amazing appVery important teaching tool. Also I had an issue and the developer was very prompt with helping me out. Great app!.Version: 9.82

Best app for learning rhythmThis is the best app for learning to read rhythm. Learning to read rhythm will help all musicians in their site reading skills..Version: 9.90

The best! This is seriously the BEST rhythm app out there. Can't wait to see what new exercises/rhythms come in the future.Version: 9.40

Great AppThis reminds me of Tap Master in college. Really challenges you to be accurate..Version: 10.52

FantasticI've finally found a replacement for the old Tap Master Rhythm System by David L. Shrader. This is it!.Version: 9.2

Fast fix! 32 bit compatibility restored!!Great app! Builds skills quickly. Logical GUI. Easy to configure custom exercises..Version: 9.51

AmazingI love this app. I play it everyday.Version: 11.04

Pretty decentGood app for rhythm practice....just be sure to read the instructions.Version: 9.40

Great app!I've practiced a lot with this app increased my sight reading ability noticably. I love it. i ask my students to buy it. Two suggestions: i bet the iphone version could fit two measures on screen in landscape format. I feel the ipad version works significantly better because it shows two measures. And more importantly, i've spent years training myself to not sweat it when i make a mistake. In the new version there is now a little exclamtion point that pops up at the tiniest mistake. I not only find this very annoying, but i feel it's condusive to a bad musical habit, which is to flip out and want to start over when making a mistake. I very much would like to not see these alerts. And I really dont want my students thinking that they should start over every time they mess up. Please give us the option to turn it off..Version: 4.6

GoodI'm very satisfied with this app but it needs one desperate change. But first, this app is exactly how I would approach the subject matter, good job! 5 star quality. Sweet execution of tap button and nice feedback both aural and visual with red and green small dots. Tons of built in exercises and it gets hard with syncopation, and you can hold notes too. But one glaring problem is the visual metronome beeps when the arm swings at the outside peak. This is opposite from all analog mets that beep at center as well as digital mets with slider LED lights and beep at center. Not only am I programed to respond to the center style, I couldn't adjust to this as the "peak" is in two different spots and too much visual movement required and my judgement wasn't as sharp. This is especially important for this app because such precision is required for perfect scores (that's good). This app needs a stable center beep met. For now I turned off the swing motion in the settings and that's bad..Version: 3.0

I love this appThis is a very useful and fun app for learning to read rhythm notation in music. I also find it very challenging. There are all kinds of options for making it work for you like being able to create your own patterns or selecting individual bars to repeat and practice. They will also have two measures in sequence that sound the same but are noted differently, with one representing all beats (the way it should be) and the next not representing all beats (the way it often is noted in sheet music). I almost gave it four stars because I think some of the setup screens are a little confusing. But overall, this is worth much more than it actually costs when you factor in how rapidly your skill level can improve. So I think it deserves five..Version: 8.4

Fun and useful appI had an earlier 2012 version of this app for iPod touch. I'm using the 2016 version on the iPhone 6s now....although the touch latency is improved on the iphone6s compared to the 2012 iPod touch, there is still a noticeable amount of delay. You have to adjust accordingly. Maybe as technology continues to improve future versions will not be affected as much. Another major issue I have with this app is the durational aspect of rhythm is completely ignored in this app. For example: a quarter note and an eighth note followed by an eighth rest would have the exact same user input according to this app but if played by an instrument like a guitar or a horn, they would be treated entirely differently. The quarter note will sound twice as long..Version: 8.4

Must-buy for sight singersFirst off, I would just like to thank the developer for putting so much time and care into this app. It is truly refreshing to see an app of this high quality specifically tailored to my needs. That being said, there are a couple of updates that would truly make this perfect. The most important thing, in my opinion, would be to have a side-scrolling feature that would imitate real-life sight-reading, implementing the use of the 'random' mode generator. Perhaps with the ability to choose from preset difficulties and/or combining modes (eighth notes, sixteenth note triplets, etc) Secondly would be the ability to randomly generate levels with odd-time signatures (5/4, 7/4, etc.)! Surely it would require minimal time for a huge improvement. I'll leave a five-star rating in spite of these minor shortcomings (although I hope the developer will still take my suggestions into consideration), because the app is truly worth it as is. Including these updates, however would be the icing on the cake for this fantastic app. Thanks again for your effort in making this!.Version: 4.0

Game changing educational appThis is a learning tool, not a game or music making app, but if you are a musical person this will be an app you love using. The idea is to tap the rhythms displayed. The levels go from suitable to beginners all the way up to advanced. You can work on rests syncopation, triplets etc. The app is intuitive and easy to use, but it's worth learning about the settings. I found it useful to turn off some of the LEDs and such to make things more realistic. I would like it if they could turn off the tap LEDs to make things even more difficult. I also like the ear training mode. Finally, this can be used by teachers to track their students' progress..Version: 3.0

Very useful and easy to useThis app is great for learning rhythm and very well-thought-out. It's super simple to jump into an exercise; just open the app and you're ready to go. The exercises are highly varied but the description already tells you that. Another thing you can tell from the description is that it's packed with features and options. I found them all very useful. However, the app works fine without needing to fiddle with the options. Discover them at your own pace (that is, whenever you decide to peruse the menu). The best part of the app is that it's free and ad-free and still getting updates! Definitely try it out!.Version: 9.1.1

I LOVE this app/ make examples longerI absolutely LOVE this app and I use it every single day. I love that I can do everything in swing, and that it helps me with 5/4 and 7/4 and that it gives me precise feedback. One thing I would really appreciate is longer examples. I use it in random mode, and on my iPhone 6 I feel that you could definitely include another line of rhythm, doubling the example. But I wouldn't want a continuous example that went in forever, because I like reading different time signatures. But longer examples would be nice. Ideally, I would like 16 bar examples, but I don't know if that is really possible. Anyway, this app is seriously incredible and I would encourage anyone who values the skill of rhythm to download it. Thank you so much for this great app. :).Version: 8.1

Nice intro to the world of rhythmHaving played guitar for myself for several decades, I found my sense of timing to be too loose to record songs that require rhythmic structure. I found this app to be very helpful in learning some fundamental aspects of rhythm that I have been able to carry over into my recording adventures. Advance exercise modes provide serious multi-tasking challenges far beyond basic "when do I play the note" timing. You can change hands for tapping (you might be surprised at the accuracy differences!), play note duration, and tap beats with one pad while tapping the notes on the other, just to name the ones I use, there are others... good stuff! 5 stars, not because the app is perfect (no way to 100% please everyone), but because it is clear that the developer really cares about trying to make it as useful as possible to a wide range of users -- based on a large majority of the reviews, mission accomplished. Good job, Rolf! Now about a customizable practice/exercise options list... :).Version: 4.7

Well thought out and very helpful ...I've been working with this app for several weeks now and I find it very helpful. I knew my timing was poor. Now I know exactly how poor (quantitatively) and by practicing with this app I am improving my timing and ability to sight-read rhythm. Just about everything you would want to tweak is included. One thing I would like to see added is the ability to keep track of several players. A little competition can help with the motivation to keep practicing. Thanks for a beautiful and useful app!.Version: 4.0

One of the best music ed apps, if not the bestI've been using this app since it was fairly new. It was always great but it keeps getting better. I use it with all of my students, and I recommend purchasing it to each of them with access to an ipad/ipod touch/iphone. It's fun, challenging, and addictive. I love level 0 which is perfect for the beginners. Based on the frequent updates and improvements, it is clear the developer truly cares about the app. If you are looking to improve your sight reading skills regardless of where you are at now, this app is for you. Beginner to Advanced..Version: 3.4

Great! An invaluable practice utility for both myself and my students. A word of advice for guitarists: use a finger with fewer callouses or you’ll get very frustrated when hits aren’t detected 😅.Version: 10.80

Good for self training.I like your App, but please make bigger tapping spot. Too often miss tapping with two fingers alternately. Please add an option to change the size of tapping spot..Version: 10.84

Lags like crazy...wait, my fault. No it doesn’tI just now updated the app and it’s been rendered completely useless. Oops, blue tooth head phones. Never mind , great app.Version: 9.82

Would give 5 stars butThere seems to be no way to disable the little light that follows the beat under the notes. It would make for more realistic and better training. Please add this feature..Version: 10.14

Great appAfter playing for 5 minutes, I know it contains lots of features and it is a great app for rhythm improvement.Version: 9.63

Must have appPractice any place any time. Great music app!.Version: 9.61

Please let us make our own rhythmThere is an option to modify a rhythm, but is hard to create your own by modifying a rhythm, please make an option that we can create our own rhythm Thanks.Version: 9.40

Best rhythm app everThis is the best rhythm app I have ever seen so far. Doing this for 15 min a day will help anybody with their rhythm and time keeping..Version: 0

A must get app .... Amazing!!This is one of the most useful and professional music app in the app store , if u wanna learn all sorts of rythims and practice it easily throught the whole day , this is ur app :D.Version: 3.2

This is a must have AppThis is a must have App if you want to get your Rhythm and Sight Reading Chops together..Version: 8.2

Least lag or no lagYou won't find a better rhythm accuracy trainer than this (probably). Plus the red/green circles at the end of each exercise are an amazing indicator of where you tend to play the beat. Totally worth $3. Don't be ridiculous about the price. The only thing I'd like more of is easy/basic rhythm (quarter/half/dotted half/whole notes). I have a lot of beginner piano students who should use this but there's not much for beginners. (That said, it had a lot of great intermediate and advanced rhythms!).Version: 6.9

Great for practising sight readingHave been using this app for 1+ year and it is still regularely updated. Worth every penny to my opinion !.Version: 6.9

Excellent !Very nicely designed app to work on rhythm reading. Simple to get started with, and widely customizable in arranging your own challenge levels. The big plus is that it's simply great fun to use. Highly recommended for anyone looking to increase their rhythm reading skills..Version: 5.8

Awesome.Very great way to practice rhythm counting anywhere. All the features are fantastic love this app. With the next update could you add a way to input your own rhythm and it would show you how to play it..Version: 5.4

Very impressedThis is a great rhythmic sight-reading trainer. It does everything you want it to do but is simple enough to use immediately. It is possible to progress slowly or quickly in difficulty depending on one's needs. Customization is possible but defaults are well thought out. An excellent tool for the student or amateur musician..Version: 4.5

UsefulGood app. If the latency issues were fixed I would definitely recommend it to my students. It's frustrating to hear your taps even a split second late. This could be an incredible tool with a few tweaks. I hope you continue to improve it. Although it's not perfect yet, I find it a very entertaining and useful..Version: 4.7

"Must Buy App!"Wow! What a difference this app has meant to my piano playing! Congratulations on an outstanding app!.Version: 4.4

Very helpful! This app is one that I have found very helpful!!! - do you struggle with timing? Or just want to improve your skills? This has helped me a lot In my own timing problems...well worth the $3! Hope it helps you as I has me. Enjoy!.Version: 4.3
