Merriam-Webster Dictionary+ Positive Reviews

Simply the bestThis is the only online dictionary I use or recommend. It has so many (free) ways to help people expand their vocabulary, and these extras work for high school & college, to writing for personal reasons. That’s the extra that I use, and love, the most; the common synonyms & antonyms, but also M-W includes a lot much more. The one that’s best for me & my writing is the origin of the words, including the approximate historical date (in centuries) in which the word was “created” and who most likely created it. At times I find that the original meaning (as used when it was created) is very different to the present day meanings! I went ahead & bought the pro-version, as I use it so often in my writing. I’ve found that M-W the dictionary to be the most user friendly, & helpful. Apologies, but I don’t remember how much is was. I only remember that it wasn’t very much. Just try it, (even the free version still has almost all the things I’ve mentioned.) use it for awhile & compare it to the other online dictionaries. I’m confident that you’ll pick, & stay with, the Merriam-Webster dictionary. 👍🏼.Version: 4.3.1

Extremely Useful.I I love the word of the day. I use this app daily. 5/5 star rating. I recommend it to everyone I know. know. is one of the best reference apps ever but I couldn't find an American version. Aside from that it's great for high school or college students. The vocal pronunciation component helps me comprehend and absorb the definitions even better. It also gives me more confidence to integrate a new word in a conversation and feel comfortable about it. This app is quick to access and does not make such a chore to build up my personal vocabulary. Let's face it— Going out of my way to physically look up a word in a giant book is not something I would normally do in order to learn about a new word... Now, I can learn definitions in seconds + hear the pronunciations on the spot. I use it in my everyday life and because of it's quick & easy access, my personal vocabulary is now more extensive. This app is a very useful tool and a Must Have. Anything that helps me be lazy yet still learn new things gets five stars! I LOVE THIS APP! Thank You! :D.Version: 5.0.3

M-W Defends The English LanguageI switched from the Oxford dictionary app I previously had for what might appear to be political reasons yet is actually a non-partisan one: defense of word definitions. When President Trump began tweeting out non-sensical statements that twisted or hollowed out the very meaning of certain words he was trying to use in an Orwellian manner, M-W would tweet out a response that focused on the actual definition of the word in defense of meaningful language. It may have appeared partisan to some, but to me it was a simple & timely reminder that words are not empty vessels. They are not window dressing. They are the window itself and attempts to use them to communicate in a way that is deliberately counter to their actual meaning effectively gaslights an entire language & the very culture that relies on it. I am happy with the app, & even happier supporting a company that recognizes that defending the meaning of words is to defend its core reason for being. Thank you M-W..Version: 4.2

Homonyms & Incomplete DefinitionsThis review is based specifically around the watchOS version of the app, which just got an update. But alas, ‘twas an update that did not address the most critical shortcoming of the app, which is that you can only use voice dictation to look up words. Hence, one will only ever know the definition of “weather” because it will never know whether you meant wether. Until we get the ability to “scribble” (write in) a word to be looked up, it simply won’t be a very useful app on the watch. Additionally, it gives poor and totally incomplete definitions on the watch. Take “weather”, for instance. The watch only tells us the (rather useless) definition of the adjective form (of or relating to the side facing the wind). Why not the noun? You know, the one that is at the top of the list of definitions when you look it up on the iOS version of the app. Furthermore, why does it curtail the definition on the watchOS app? The screen can easily display text, and guess what, that little crown on the side, it allows you to scroll through text! So, theoretically, they could display all the definitions of a word, and we could simply scroll through to find the definition we’re looking for. And why no support for synonyms? Why why why?? What exactly did they update for the watch in this version of the app? I want my money back..Version: 4.4.1

Nice app, but...Nice dictionary app, but a few things: —You ask how we feel way too much, you don’t just ask every couple day, weeks, or months, but mutilple times a day, I’m not sure if it’s based off time, or words looked up, but please, stop. Do not just make it a tad less, but at least make it every couple days or longer that you ask in app how we feel. Until then, I’ll tap the frown face, because this alone is annoying. Feature requests —I think it would help a lot if this app had a spell checker. As you type, it’s not just looking for words you might be typing, but words you might have meant. For example if you typed “kat” “cat” would be an option. Of course this would go for bigger and more complex words too. This would also make it easier if the speaker isn’t available, or you just don’t want to use it. —Another feature I think would be nice is a feature that I think some dictionary apps/programs call “wildcards”. For example you could type “c*d” and it would find all words that start with c and end with d or “c*r*d” for the same thing. * would be any amount of letters between the two letters it’s between. In addition to the * for many letters, a ? for one letter. For example “c?b” would find a words that start with c, end in b, and have one letter in between. “c?a?e” would turn up crate. It would be nice if we could do the above in addition to any number or combination of ? and *. Please add these features, I really think they would add to the app..Version: 4.4.1

Love Merriam-Webster's app! Thanks!Merriam-Webster’s dictionary app is great for anyone learning English. I especially like synonyms, antonyms, and thesaurus features which give me related words and phrases at every word. This app has clear and high-quality audio pronunciations, sentences, and concise definitions. Also, it nicely displays the parts of speeches. I utilize its favorite feature to save words and study them. Another smart and cool feature is that this app beautifully syncs with my Apple devices. Also, it works offline even though its audio pronunciation doesn’t work. I can add the words to favorite or delete the saved words offline, and once my Apple devices are online, they automatically sync. This app is an excellent dictionary. Kudos to everyone who developed this extraordinary dictionary app; thank you to developers for this awesome app! I love it! The best is yet to come.....Version: 4.6

Quenched and Sated Word Nerd!!This is my favorite dictionary/thesaurus app, and I’ve run through them all. As someone who LOVES words, looks them up all day, not so much to expand my vocabulary anymore, but to study subtle nuances, origins and archaic and obsolete uses. Each word has MANY examples used in MEANINGFUL sentences that clearly delineate each use. The examples are sometimes famous quotations or literary excerpts (neat!) The common ‘Word of the Day’ feature is more interesting than usual, as it has a “Did you know?” section after the standard definition, expanding on etymology and evolution of meaning. Newer versions save search history as a running list across the top of screen, making it simple to access previous look-ups and to toggle back-and-forth between words for comparison. You can also toggle between dictionary and thesaurus with a single click..Version: 4.4.1

Substantial Coverage of the LanguageI have been using a different dictionary in my smartphone for several years. I became somewhat put off by the direction it was going and went looking for another one. I have started using M-W and it is going well. This is not a newcomer, Merriam-Webster has been around for decades. This mobile version has a direct, thorough approach without lot of extraneous details and from my experience so far, without circular definitions. It includes good etymologies, and examples! The interface is professional—it doesn’t look like a game app: it looks like what it is, a reference. It’s clean with a simple design, and you can easily ignore the examples and etymologies if not interested. Recommended..Version: 5.6.0

Expanding my vocabularyI have been using this app for over three years now and have discovered some features as I have worked through my high school education. My favorite has to be the word games that work within the app to challenge my word knowledge and to help me expand my ability to name parts of objects that I didn't even think had a name. This app is also helpful as some dictionary apps don't supply the etymology of words which helps give context when reading older literature. Since, I have the propensity to read some books with quite the odd assortment of words I find myself using this app more than I would like to admit. But, thanks anyway for if this app didn't exist I would be doomed in English class..Version: 4.2

Update but still no keyboard support on iPadUnquestionably one of my most used apps, I am thankful everyday for MW taking the time to develop this app. I move around a lot and being able to take a vital reference book with me is a gift. (And I really wish more publishers would follow in their footsteps.) But the fact that there is not simple keyboard functionality for the iPad app is ridiculous at this point. If you type in a definition with the keyboard, you have to either use the mouse or your finger to chose the word and show the definition. I asked this nearly a year ago over email and was told the suggestion was interesting, as if it was legitimately something they had never considered. Please, just simple arrow key and enter functionality. Please..Version: 5.6.4

Presented words list by date shownThis function of the program gives me elegant words and the date that they were originally released. It is so nice and is improving my vocabulary and thus makes me me a better author! Very nice! I look at the word of the day every single day as an author and a script writer, and learned from it from the definitions there in(If I don’t already know the definition). The words are extremely elegant! They help me to illustrate the points that I have in speech and communication… They allow me to Put forth the concepts that I have to get the idea across. Extremely useful and elegant! I love the English language! I love all different languages!.Version: 5.6.0

Good basic dictionary but missing wordsI’m here today because of asystole, a word meaning the cessation of heartbeat and lack of electrical activity in the heart. This is just one of many words I’ve looked up that I didn’t find in this dictionary and had to look up online. This is a good basic dictionary but I’d like to see an unabridged dictionary become available. Its not like I’m reading technical journals or other specialized material. A lot of the words I can’t find are words I’ve found through the words with friends app, or from movies or tv. Asystole came from stargate SG-1. Basic network tv from the 1990’s is stumping this dictionary lol. All that said, I have no other complaints about this dictionary, though I’m here today to try a different dictionary. I see their competition has more words.Version: 5.0.3

A little cluttered and could be more accessibleThis app is pretty nice, and it has a lot of features for vocab building and the like. It also works pretty well as both a dictionary and thesaurus. However, it’s not the most streamlined. More pressing, some prominent elements are images, not text,. Therefore, they are not recognized by voiceover. This would be less of an issue, but these non text elements take up the majority of the main dictionary page. Additionally, I’ve encountered this problem where once I look at the word of the day, again, a big image at the top of the page that can’t be read, I am unable to return to the menu. The menu is there, but when tapping on the icon, voiceover reads the word of the day banner. Therefore, extraneous inaccessible components prevent this app from being my convenient, go to pocket dictionary..Version: 4.4.1

Needs: UNabridged! Fast look-up! Spell-Guesser & more usage-controversy indicatorsThis is a decent, reliable app—Which Can Be IMPROVED: (1) WE NEED M-W’s UNABRIDGED VERSION!!! (I usually look up RARE words—the ones often NOT found in M-W’s Collegiate Dictionary app. There is ZERO reason M-W can’t provide access to its unabridged dictionary!) (2) Make Dictionary Look-ups FASTER! (I suggest programming the M-W Dictionary for its bread & butter: WORD LOOK-UPS!!!—Develop the software so I can IMMEDIATELY Enter the searched-for word, while ancillary portions of the app (e.g., games, or Word of the Day) are loading. (3) At least MENTION there is a USAGE Controversy when there is one, so the user may choose to do further study. E.g., M-W features “SUPPOSABLY”—but says nothing about the common usage error of substituting the word for “supposedly.” (4) Include PHONETIC GUESS / MisSpelling HELP in your word look-ups. All sorts of software, including that on search-engines, Wikipedia, etc., etc. help users find words—even if spelled incorrectly. One reason people use dictionaries is to LEARN the correct spelling[s] of a word! (This wd be LIGHT-Lifting, software development-wise!) presently, if a word is not PERFECTLY spelled, M-W will do NOTHING to allow me to look it up..Version: 5.2.3

It is good, with one reservation—Opens quickly, and authoritative definitions. But I use a dictionary for just one purpose on my iPad: to find the meaning of a word I just read on my tablet. Why can't I copy the word, open the dictionary and be presented with a ready to paste into search box? And the widget? Why is it only the "new" word of the day? This is a great dictionary that would rather rest in that wooden stand in the corner of the dining room of the home I grew up in. That is not my life today. Can I have a dictionary that works with me, rather than than against me? Or worse, stubbornly refuse to leave the wooden stand that now occupies space in the basement?.Version: 5.0.3

OK as far as it goes...decent for high school, but lacking for serious academics.LOVE THE WORD ORIGINS INFO! I’m a logophile, so the word root notes are important and beneficial to me. PLEASE keep and even expand these in future updates! HOWEVER, as I have found with most online resources and apps, it skimps in crucial places. I often find print versions to be far better because of the depth of information they contain. For example, the lists of synonyms and antonyms in this app are sorely lacking. They contain too much slang and are too short. And every time I’ve tried to use the THESAURUS, it has proved USELESS because it contains only the SAME synonyms and antonyms given in the dictionary! What’s the point, I wonder. I HAVE EARLY 80’s PRINT VERSIONS OF ROGET’S AND THE AMERICAN HERITAGE DICTIONARY THAT ARE MUCH MORE THOROUGH. So, all in all, useful only for convenience and superficial knowledge..Version: 4.3.1

Good app, just not great . . . yet. This is a really good app. The quizzes are an added bonus that are really enjoyable. What would catapult this app into the great category would be a greater ability to discern exactly what I am trying to spell out. This app is the bane of poor spellers like myself. So, often times I have to get Siri to spell the word for me prior to inputting it into this app, which I am sure you can agree is a real drag. Often times I just get Siri to define it as well because you have to be nearly spot on with your spelling to get a definition. However, after minor self absorbed complaint, this truly is a helpful and most of the time a user friendly accompaniment..Version: 5.6.7

The most up-to-date and the most accessible US English dictionary at your fingertipsKudos to Merriam-Webster, recent releases of this awesome dictionary app have become accessible for the visually impaired. And, needless to say, the app itself is fantastic in terms of its contents and the depth of information it provides. However, I have given four stars to this application because, one, the Word games section can become more accessible and it should be more easily playable by the visually impaired, and, too, the online version of Merriam-Webster Dictionary providesmore information and usage notes compared with the application. Please incorporate usage notes and synonym discriminations into the application..Version: 5.6.4

Re-title: Abridged dictionaryI love this app. Word origins are probably my favorite aspect of the app. Pro version is great with no advertisement, pronunciations and voice search. However, the app is definitely lacking full content and therefore should be labeled abridged dictionary. Minor complaint: when opening the app, the search field jumps from the top of screen to the center. Why? FYI: need to step up your game. I can ask google home for definitions that aren’t in this app and have answers in one second. You either need to integrate, offer more content (unabridged pro version) or provide a link to order hard copies of unabridged and see how many you can sell. The word origins may be key to the value of the app....Version: 4.3.1

AWESOME!This is one of the very first apps I purchased way back when Apple came out with the iPhone 3 and the App Store had a limited amount of apps. Fast forward to my current iPhone 11 Pro Max I rely heavily on this app for its obvious intended purpose of spelling and definition, however I love the addition of the voice pronunciation of the words. It has improved my knowledge and saved me the embarrassment of misspelling and miss pronunciation of words. It has also had the side benefit of helping me win bets on how words are spelled or pronounced. I couldn’t imagine having to do without it!.Version: 5.2.3

Beautiful and thoughtfully designed GREAT! 😊I'm so happy I found this fun and lovely app! It's by far the best of my three dictionary apps. The design is complete, the layout assists in making it easily usable, and I've finally heard the correct pronunciation of a word I've wondered about for years! The word-of-the-day today was very interesting and I look forward to more! I'm glad it doesn't require a constant internet connection because I can't afford to be online very often. And I'm sure glad they had this Pro paid version because I'm anti-subscription, and anti-ad. Thank you Merriam-Webster! 😍✨.Version: 4.3.1

Excellent but would like some adjustmentsM-W does an excellent job with word definitions, etymological info, pronunciation (including audio pronunciations) and even include a very good Thesaurus. Illustrations are offered for some words, though we are often disappointed that more words are not illustrated. We enjoy the “Word of the Day” feature as well as the word/ vocabulary quizzes and Weekly Challenge. The Weekly Challenge, however, needs to allow more time per question simply because challengers need more time to READ the questions. This is especially true since the app states that it is appropriate for age 4+. Perhaps M-W could add two or three seconds per question..Version: 4.3.2

Best dictionary ever 😺😺😽😽😻😻My mom got this for me a few weeks ago and ever since I fell I love with this app. This is better then the real book dictionary’s at school this Is very helpful, all you need to do is type the word that you need or want to know about and press search and it tells you the definition. If you need a dictionary don’t waste your time too find a book dictionary, go on the app and buy this app! PS. There is a thesaurus on the dictionary app as well, take your time to find the word you want and this is the easiest app to find a word.👍😊😊.Version: 4.4

Nice, but missing a feature and definitionsThis is the only dictionary I use outside of the built-in iOS dictionary, but it’s missing an important feature: integration with search. When typing in the iOS system search, nothing appears for the MW dictionary. I see an entry for the word in the system dictionary though. This means that I have to launch the MW app before searching, an extra step vs. other apps (this despite having “Search & Siri Suggestions” on for the MW app). Also, the dictionary seems to be missing some definitions vs. the web site. For example, “apocatastatis”. Esoteric? Sure, but that’s why I need a dictionary! If I just wanted to look up common words, I’d use the built-in dictionary..Version: 4.3.1

Value of this appI’ve always loved words/and learning/using new ones when I speak. Today I pulled out a book which was highlighted/underlined, and had circled words I’d not ever looked up. I like to try to figure out their meanings in the context of the sentence/paragraph, but then want to confirm how on or off the mark my educated guess has been. Having this app allows me to speedily locate the word, learn how to pronounce it, find its’ meaning, identify synonyms/antonyms, as well as determine the meaning most suited to its’contextual use. I’m always learning and growing-Merriam Webster is still a cornerstone in my development!.Version: 4.6

Easy to use, fun, and full of knowledgeIt's a much better dictionary than most of the free or crowd-sourced dictionaries, it offers timely, updated language and offers greater insight into words. I love the easy pronunciation button, the history of the words, and the "Where did you hear this word" comments left by users. You can easily switch between the dictionary and a great thesaurus as well! On top of the essential dictionary/thesaurus function, there are explanatory blogs, and quizzes and games to improve and/or test your vocabulary. I use this app nearly every day!.Version: 4.2

“Webster’s like a very good friend”Always useful, always present. I’ve spent quality time with dictionaries most my life and Webster’s dictionary stands out amongst the rest. The app makes it simple and easy to carry a dictionary in ones pocket and remains current with new words added with a frequency that’s astonishing. Back in the day, one could be stuck with a paper bound dictionary that could never be updated until buying the most current edition again. With the app you can pay for the one time premium and it’ll maintain the most current edition year in and year out..Version: 4.3.2

Essential app but somewhat lackingI use this app constantly. I love that you can hear a word’s correct pronunciation, that you can see words you looked up recently, and all of its other features. To the developers, however, I’d like to suggest 2 functions I often wish it had: 1) a “BACK” arrow to go back to the list or word you were previously looking at (instead of having only the main menu to work with), and 2) a way to BROWSE the dictionary like you can with a physical one — without having to use the search feature. Thanks!.Version: 4.6

Versatile App; Good WorkoutThis is the only English dictionary app I bother with. It offers a variety of exercises and options (such as word of the day) which are useful to review, reinforce, and increase vocabulary “muscle.” Just for “funzies” I also bought a Word a Day calendar whose definitions are derived from Webster, and it’s a good supplement. I’m a big fan of writing and collect words and linguistic principles for fun. I’ve gathered some pretty word gems this way. This app goes into etymology briefly - just enough to whet your whistle. It’s the right mix of concise and in-depth for an app. Thanks for offering it, guys!.Version: 4.6

Handy, concise, but….This would be even better if the app could be programmed to toggle easily and quickly as I that as I’m reading I can look up words without having to leave the app I’m in. Also, I’d like the ability to touch a spot on the word definition page so I can keep an ongoing list of new words and their definitions to review periodically. And I’d also like more small illustrations, if, in fact the word pertains to or is an object or an action pertaining to a noun (such ad running ortteins to people m, horses, computer programs, motors, cars, and blenders of fans, etc..Version: 5.6.7

Quick Reference Guide and Vocabulary ExtenderM-W app is a convenient "pocket" resource for definitions, synonyms and antonyms. Also, the whimsical vocabulary-building word quizzes are fun and entertaining. I often refer to this app to avoid using repetitive words and cliched language, and to review definitions I've taken for granted. However, it is opined that adding a "spell-check" algorithm will be useful to one who is uncertain about spelling - a basic reason why one refers to a dictionary. Additionally, M-W is an easy, fast resource to use when confronted by an unfamiliar word employed by a more erudite wordsmith..Version: 4.3

Wish there was a faster way to access recentsI love using this app and have been doing so for years, but there are some features that would benefit the user experience. One thing that I know could help is a potential feature that could enhance the learning of words through a quick access button. Just going through the recents list would be so helpful in learning without using the flashcards. Looking forward to future updates!.Version: 5.2.3

Fantastic dictionary app when it comes to researching vocabulary.I love how this app is streamlined in a convenient way for the style that English words are constructed (I’m monolingual, not sure if it’s the same otherwise!). Notably, it’s handy to go back to words recently clicked on. This makes it quick to lookup synonyms, antonyms, prefixes, suffixes, etc., and return back to the original word to discover its origin. Would’ve been handy in the Latin and Greek Roots in English class I took last semester, but I’m glad I found it now :).Version: 4.6

A must have resourceVery well done and executed. Love all the quizzes, and the dictionary and thesaurus are both of unbelievable quality. I've noticed that mostly every review here is 4 or 5 stars, and most of the 4 stars are recommendations, not criticisms. (There's the one quack complaining about voice recognition being awful. Dude, seriously? Type it in. Voice recognition may fail you, but a keyboard won't.) Anyway, fantastic job! I have noticed however, while studying for my SAT, that some words are not here. I couldn't find apochryphal, which was unfortunate, but still a great job..Version: 4.2

Sorry...Word of the day is backI purchased this app Merriam-Webster Dictionary Pro, Premium ad-free Dictionary many years ago. Admittedly, I had not utilized it very much in the intervening years. Imagine my surprise when I try to use it, specifically the word of the day, it’s not working. It keeps saying I need network connection. And why is word pronunciations not working on some words while working on others. I have to say I don’t like this updated app. Update: There must be a lag time in receiving the word of the day from when I downloaded the app. Because it’s back!.Version: 4.3.1

Amazing TecnologyI’m so thrilled I lived long enough to experience this technology. Got the Premium edition for $5 bucks. Best five bucks I ever spent. Push the microphone and say the word, and bingo, there it is, both dictionary and thesaurus. How incredible! As a college student writing term papers, I could spend hours flipping through the dictionary my family gave me for high school graduation, trying to find just the right word. Now it’s instantly in front of me. Oh, the joy that floods my soul! Thank you Mr. Webster for hiring computer geeks! Love those people!!.Version: 4.6

Won’t open!Ever since my update to iOS 13, this app won’t open up for me. I tap it, the main screen comes up. It either crashes or stays on the main screen. If I’m not mistaken I paid for this app. (Not 100% sure if this was a paid app or not because I got it long ago and there was another that wasn’t a paid app but I upgraded to ad free so I’m sure it was paid for.) I would like for the app developers to fix this app. It was a great app prior to this mess. I use it, well USED it daily. Now I can’t..Version: 4.6

Likely to be the best value dictionary out thereI haven't had to pay any extra to get the so called "additional features". Plain and simple - pay once and get an offline dictionary that offers pronunciation as well as comprehensive definitions even for the most peculiar words in English language. It does have a bonus quiz app that challenges your vocabulary and makes you realistically evaluate your English mastery. But over time we can all master it , thanks to such a convenient tool..Version: 4.3

A daily reference! As someone who always had a M-W dictionary by almost every chair, and someone dragged into the digital age (I’m 80), the app came to my attention recently as I became more familiar with my iPhone and its wonders. I installed it recently and LOVE it. One of my favorite features is the ability to hear the words pronounced. The app is easy to use and gives me the understanding I need. Gone are those thick books—well, I have one somewhere, just in case. In the meantime it enhances my reading and writing..Version: 4.6

Must HaveThere’s a lot of things that I like about this app. The most obvious is that it downloads all of the content (except voice recordings) so I never have to worry about having internet access and it still takes up a very minimal amount of storage. Another is the combined thesaurus feature. I like to use the app to educate myself as well as whip out a quick definition whenever I get into an argument about a word! This app has one me quite a few of those ;).Version: 4.5

Best dictionary and Thesaurus app! This app is absolutely amazing. I have tried most of the other main dictionary apps, and none of them come close. I use it every day to look up words and learn. I have used it while I was at university, and now that I am a researcher I use it in my research work. I love that words can be marked to review later like flash cards so I can learn them and expand my vocabulary. And the Thesaurus is indispensable to my writing. The great job is to the developers! From a Harvard student..Version: 4.6

Back To The BookI really enjoy this app. Before smartphones and apps became popular, I always looked up a word in the MW Dictionary to start my day. On the days I didn’t have access to the dictionary I missed out on my word of the day. Today, I always have my smartphone on me which means I have access to the MW Dictionary app. Therefore I will always get my word of the day. The MW Dictionary not only provides a word of the day, but challenging word games as well. If you’re into words, then this is the app for you..Version: 4.6

Great Dictionary AppI really enjoy using the app on my devices. It provides definitions, pronunciations, and origins of each word in addition to synonyms and antonyms for most. I use it all the time when I read a book or look for a better word when I am writing a memo. It also have word games in addition to word of the day to improve vocabulary which’s very convenient for me since English is my second language..Version: 5.6.8

Love it...yet still room for improvementThe new UX and fonts are lovely. I also love the access to word of the day archive, even though I feel it should go even way back than than the current six-month window. That said, I’m in solidarity with those bemoaning the lack of support for split view. Please work on this. Also, think about integrating additional value-add services such as an idioms tab, word usage tips, etc; these would make this app a one-stop reference..Version: 4.3

My Go To Dictionary! The Merriam-Webster Dictionary app is most definitely my "go to" dictionary. The reason for four stars is because the app's search feature doesn't "guess" the word I'm after like other types of apps do. In other words, it's almost as if I have to already know how to completely spell a word in order to find it. This shouldn't be the case. The app should be able to guess which word I'm looking for, or else the "search" feature isn't really worth much. I'll put it this way; with a paper dictionary, I only have to know the first letter or two of a word, essentially, in order to find it. That should be the case with a digital dictionary as well, in my opinion. Also, I wish the "Word of the Day" feature had audio pronunciation included, which it does not. Otherwise, I enjoy the other features, including the word games!.Version: 4.2

Missing many words that are in the website versionThe app is good if you need offline access, otherwise you’re better off just using the web version, which includes many words that are missing from the app (as I frequently discover when playing some popular word-puzzle games). Several times a week I try to look up a word in the app, and it doesn’t show it as a word, only for it to be there as a fully defined word on the web version of the same MA dictionary. Oh well!.Version: 5.6.7

Trusted dictionary! This dictionary is a survivor! I had their paper version, then I bought a CD-ROM which was a telling commitment considering the scant student budget.
