Highly versitile and full-featuredIt is amazing how much stuff you get with this ap. Its really two identical synthesizers, a full set of audio processors (complete with full audio-path re-routing capability), a highly flexible analog-style sequencer, a chord sequencer, a pattern-chain sequencer, an arpegiator, a programmable X-Y pad, standard keyboard and touch-pad keyboard and lots of excellent presets (along with some that are just so-so) and probably the best MIDI implementation on the market. It sounds great. Updates are slow in coming but solid and keep pace with the changes in the market and the technology. Its hard to add much to Magellan. I guess the only minor limitation is in the modulation scheme. If Yonac could add more modulation destinations and sources (like another LFO or two, for example) that would be great..BozoTooVersion: 4.0

I use to use this ALL THE TIME!?!Ever since AuV3 BLEW UP!!! It’s almost like I’ve completely forgotten about apps that only run IAA.. Sadly, they just collect digital dust in the forgotten folder(s). Looks great, sounds...okThis synth looks amazing and it’s easy to modify the sounds and customize things to your liking and it sounds nice through the iPad speakers. Unfortunately when you plug in high quality headphones the sounds are very .... thin. They sound toy-like at best. Full featured beastIf they added a wave table , then it would be daunting to play and I am glad they stuck to 3 analog oscillators. My only complaint is that when oscillator 3 is disconnected from keyboard, you cannot use it as a drone. Maybe there is a way but I am not able to figure it out. It is not warm sounding as a real analog synth but it is good enough and if needed you can use a tube preamp or one of the effect units. The multi track sequencer is a beast and you can get a lot out of it. I can do things that would require 4 outboard gear at least. The arpeggiator also dual mode is awesome, specially the pedal type mode, which I had to program as a sequence in other synths. Some people complain about its lack of modern features but performance ways, there is enough maybe too much. The presets have too much reverb and just a couple good lead sound. But I was able to get a minmoog parch up quickly. I like that the FM has an ADSR but it is not easy to use but if you know how, it is more rewarding than what other synths, analog and modeled offer. And the touch strip keyboard, wow. Other folks just give you a chromatic strip but here, they have chord and scale and ability to customize. If they added other tuning, not just the tempered tuning then I would be over the moon. I know only one synth that does it Audiokit Synth One. XY pad is a welcome performance tool. I do not know if that can be mapped to an external pad. This is a really good synth, not just for an iPad synth. This review does not cover more than 10 percent overview. I suggest reading the online manual to get an idea what it provides. Considering the small area of the iPad, I think the UI is not too bad. I think if they employed templates for things you need so you can reduce the number of visible controls, that would be great. For example the touch strip s, if they full screened those, then the performance value would further be enhanced. But overall no deal breakers for me. You really need the big iPad Pro. Amazing Sound, UI, and FXIf you like synths, get this! One of my faves. Gives awesome crisp modern sounds, but can do a good range in general. There are lots of synths out there, but I feel this one has a character that really sets it apart from others. Kauldron is also a great one from this developer. The two are definitely on my top 8 must-have list. This synth has so many features, yet it is so well designed that it’s super straightforward to use. Everything is in the right place. No clutter, yet a lot of controls per page. I usually prefer external fx, but in this synth they really fit in well with the sound. It’s hard to pick a best synth in terms of sound because each covers different ground or different approaches to sound design, but in terms of UI it’s easier to pick because a lot of synths have weak UI. Magellan is definitely at the top, along with Nave - both being beautiful and usable at the same time. Both feel like you have a hardware synth in your hands, and are just a pleasure to use for the eyes, ears, and fingers too. Only request I have is, please make presets save both synths. There are 2 synth engines that can be used individually or together. You can save each independently and load them, but can’t save the two combined. Using both engines really gives beautifully huge sound! As a workaround I save them as name-part1, name-part2 so it’s not really that hard to load the two together later, just think it makes more sense to just treat both synths as a single preset. The sickest synth everThis has got to be by far the sickest IOS synth ever with sunrizer close behind. The sound you can get is simply put incredible. If your on the fence then I will tell you buy before they realize what there selling at this price. The basses will rumble you as if they are being produced on an analog pice of gear. The pads are so lush they can keep up with korg and are far better then anything the micro korg ms20 or any other of the lower end korg gear can produce. I create my own sounds for dub, pop, hip hop, R&B, and Neo-soul and there is nothing like it. This app alone can make the ipad a major pice of production gear in any studio. Add the audiobus support and the many other great apps like Auria and beatmaker2 and you can replace most all your studio production gear with an ipad. I do not speak these words lightly. Iv been recording and producing for 20 years and my ipad is all I use now for every thing. Recording, mixing, sound design, sampling, everything. This app is one of the major ones that makes it all possible. One day if they ever figure out how to connect high end D/A audio interface the ipad will be all you need to record or produce anything. Musician quality app that even beginners can enjoyI am using this app as a synth for my guitar setup with a midi pickup. It turns my guitar into a live instrument. Keyboard players will be able use the app in the same manner. I play through the app on an IPAD Air with a Camera connector kit (usb). I use a core midi interface built into my Digitech GNX4 or a M-Audio USB Midisport Uno MIDI Interface to communicate with the app. I plug the headphone Jack directly into my line in channel on my speakers, GNX4, headphones, or even a regular stereo system with a line in. It is awesome to play. You can create your own sounds from scratch or start with a preset from the sound bank. One cool feature is the app ability to be an an effects processor for other music apps using AudioBus. I can shut off "midi in" and the program will process the sounds from another music app to the speakers or through to another music app or IPAD DAW. Other features include midi thru, sequencer, two channels, effects, and sooooo much more. This purchase is no brainer for those experienced or just getting started in computer generated music..EJBSK8Version: 3.1

Mind blowing awesomeOf all the synths I have on iPad, including the sunrizer, the animoog and the ims20 among others, I'd have to say this takes the cake. Absolutely amazing sound and features, far and away my favorite of the lot. The sounds are amazing, and sound fabulous on a good sound system, and you can tweak this thing to death. The sequencer is better than ims20, and some of the basses are comparable to animoog. This seems like the best of everything. The touchpad keyboard is a pretty amazing variation on the theme of similar controls in other products, but you'll see that a lot better when you get it. There seems to be the occasional hang up, but nothing that flipping a switch doesn't take care of. It would be nice perhaps if they could add a four finger swipe defeater switch- you can tweak so much at once its pretty hard not to have all your fingers on it! I'm astounded at the power of it, and if you have any love for analog gear, with the possible exception of patch panels, this is it. Top Notch AppExcellent preset sounds with fairly priced in app purchase upgrades. All of these are very customizable making the sonorous possibilities almost endless, the spawn option is there if you don't feel like tinkering. This app is also strong with other apps via inter app audio and audiobus, I use it with Tabletop and Beatmaker all the time. MIDI works great and using my keyboard as the input makes this app basically a full fledged synthesizer. This app is as good as any I have of have seen and at half the price of one like Animoog. Suggestions: Make the scales even more customizable beyond well tempered harmony to include microtonal and non well tempered scales. Please make the black and white keyboard have a customizable option for sliding expressivity for dynamics and sound parameters without need for the wheel or the awesome pad input. Finally please include more visual sound customizing similar to what Animoog and iKaosilator do. Still a Go-To appUPDATE: I've had this app for a while now and it's still in my top three (I have them all). I am currently running iOS 9.2 with no issues on an iPad Mini 2. Simply a beautiful sounding synth with great control over the sound. Deep editing capability. Lots of patches and plenty available online. If you don't have this app, get it. Get it NOW! You won't regret it. I have many synth apps and Magellan is still a go-to app for me. The controls are very deep but there are plenty of excellent presets to choose from. I've used Magellan in many of my songs but I also spend a lot of time simply playing and listening to the beautiful sounds it will produce. Awesome updateAmazing update! Magellan sounds incredible, and is deep and feature rich enough to keep you interested for a long, long time. Yet despite the huge amount of parameters and complexity, features like Spawn and a large preset bank (and now an in-app purchase system to get even more) make it simple enough for a novice to get results, or a pro to get some instant inspiration. This is a great well rounded product with a very complete feature set. In my opinion, suitable for any level of synthesist, and will grow with you. The 3.0 update adds tons of great stuff. Very impressed -- ONE PROBLEM, NO OVERWRITE CONFIRMThe keyboard options alone make this app stand out.. Split into vertical octaves, have always wondered why other apps didn't have it, finally found it in Magellan, and the sounds engine is deep and varied. Great customization, and the spawn randomizer function is great. One thing with the keyboard, sometimes I'm inclined to stagger those octaves in chromatic mode, you know, by fifth or something, would be a comfy way for guitarists, violinists to get all the notes. Great app. Easily my favorite synth on and off the iPad. One serious problem i do have is the overwrite for presets. I have that panel open a lot going from sound to sound, tweaking one of my presets for a particular mix, and sometimes I hit overwrite and it erases my original preset without confirming. Very frustrating since as epic as this app is, the nuances of that setting are gone for good unless I am extremely lucky and can manage to find the same settings. The Debate is OverI used to prefer Animoog, then Thor, then I was convinced that Nave could scratch almost every itch I had for an iOS synth. Turns out, Magellan scratches EVERY itch, including those the others can't reach. It has surprising depth, and although the UI is complex, the usability is top flight and the touch controls are like butter. In-app purchases are worth every penny, too. I especially recommend the Chiptunes pack just for the nostalgia. AmazingThis is such a powerful yet simple to use synth. I am no expert in the area of synthesizers and how to use them, but I was able to pick this up with out any problem, despite its complexity what with the ability to control two separate synths at the same time. #2 absolute FAVORITEThis app has always been simply awesome, I have most of the highest rated synths but right from the start this one just keeps getting better. Tight Competition in the 3-OSC MarketBottom line first, this is a monster app with great, fat sounds double engine and fantastic spawning ability. There are many synths out there in the store, and in the realm of the 3-oscillator kind there are 3 apps that get my vote. Magellan is one of them. Magellan is a great synth and has two particular things that that the other two contenders (Thor and Cassini) lack. Double synth engines and Spawn. Magellan has this great ability to have two synth engines, each one with its own oscillators, filters, effects and arps. The closest comparo would be Thor's multi osc synth and that's it. Spawning it a great tool for when you are feeling adventurous or are in a hurry to create a new sound. That is not even possible in the other two. Possibly the best synth for the iPadIn the crowded market of synth apps, and coming from someone who has hundreds of dollars worth of music apps, this one stands out for me as possibly the best synth overall: - Great sounds out of the box; - Good availability of sound banks to purchase, both in and out of the app; - Great developer, very active in forums, listens to user requests and keeps the app always up to date; - Amazing spec list. Note that you actually get TWO independent synth engines, which can be played independently or in sync; - Plays very nice with other apps. In iOS, interapp connectivity is very important. You get a very complete Midi implementation, IAA and Audiobus. Magellan also works great as an effect in Audiobus. Most ImpressiveAs an owner of high end analog synthesizers like the PolyEvolver and Studio Electronics SE-1X, I am not kidding when I say that Magellan has earned a place alongside Animoog and SynthX as my favorite iPad synth apps. The best synth in every wayIncredibly varied, sounds great, easy to patch, has great effects, has MIDI learning, and, most of all, can handle serious polyphony. Excellent synth app!This is a fantastic app. Great sounds and a lot of capability and detail built in. The UI is somewhat complex but it enables one to have a lot of control over the sounds and how they are played. The whole packageI've purchased most of the iPad synths out there, but end up using a much smaller number. This is one of them. The presets sound fantastic, right out of the box, and beyond the presets it has a lot of power for sound design, for recording, and for performance. Best Synth in 2012This synth is amazing. The programmability goes far beyond what most hardware synths offer. As for the sound that is produced from this synth are really pro and offers sounds only available to serious programmers in the past but now even if you don't delve into the synthesis world you can still fire up some really hip sounds with little or no effort. A job well done. This synth will be going up in price soon Im sure so Im glad I got it at the introductory price. Ok but...I was excited because this is a WIST app. But there is no instant gratification like you get with iKaossilator. Over 200 sounds and only a few, very few are actually usable (IMHO). I still can't get it to do anything useful. You might as well play around with some of the free keyboards. The bass drops off sharply after C3 even on the bass patches. The patch browser is confusing and I still can't figure out how to store my sounds in my own bank for easy access. The sequencer does not seem to work and I could not find a single demo sequence that comes with the app. Where is the help, it must be hidden? I am still hopeful that I can get some use out of this app, but if you are looking for instant fun, you may not find it here. Some of the patches are thick and rich and I did demo this through reference speakers. I hope this does not come off too negative, five bucks is a good price..Atomic PerceptionVersion: 1.1

Love the touchpad with octavingThe latest update is only compatible with iOS 5.1 which I don't want in my system yet. So I cannot update. Being forced to use an outdated app makes this awesome synth a 2 star app for now. This is unfortunate. I wasn't expecting the app to require iOS 5.1 on the first update and would not have bought itmin the first place if it originally required 5.1 -- May not be the most important thing, and not sure if it's unique but I find that it lets me ideate and improvise things that I like. I have Soundprism, but I liked this feature a lot. It's very well designed because it doesn't try to look like a keyboard, and the touch-feedback is something that compensates the lack of physical cues. The rest of the synth seem powerful (not amazingly unique as it's analog emulation) yet the sound bank is unique. Compared to NLog I found the sounds much more usable. the interface is beautiful, the metaphors used through the synth are consistent, good looking and extremely functional. It should cost more than $5, but at this price it doesn't even matter if you are happy with your other synths: just get it knowing that's bet to give it a try and see how it fits. for me, just the touchpad makes it to the Direct icon (not folders) Apps..PreemptionVersion: 1.1
