Good data set, terrible mapI do a lot of off the grid traveling in my truck camper during the winter months. I got this app to help me find free or inexpensive camping locations. It’s very useful for that and I can recommend it. Unfortunately, the developer relies on Apple Maps, which includes terribly outdated satellite view images. How can someone get an idea of the terrain and roads in a remote area they plan to travel to when the satellite images are three or four or more years old? For example, on a recent visit to Wickenburg, AZ, I looked at camping options north of town. Apple Maps satellite view showed roads under construction for what has since become a huge subdivision with more than 400 homes. Those homes didn’t get there overnight. Why is Apple’s data so out of date? Why would the developer utilize such misleading data? Google maps is much more up-to-date and reliable. I really wish the developer would make the switch or allow users to select the map data they prefer..HeliGalVersion: 2.5.58

Always up to dateTons of features and it keeps getting better. Hands down the best campground locator app for public camping - state parks, national parks, state forests, national forests, Army Corps of Engineers, fish and wildlife commission, the list goes on and on. Use the map view or search function to find a campground near your destination, then hit the navigation icon to draw a route to it. Easily check out campsites along the way. The app tells you how long of a drive to reach each campsite, what the current weather is, if reservations are accepted, phone number, and provides a link to their website and lots more helpful information. Best site for locating non private campgrounds. Lot of state, municipal parks as well as Fed parksThis is pretty much the only App I use for locating non private campgrounds. It does not show private campgrounds at all. This app opens up so many hidden places and more so gives you all the information you need to know about the park. If it’s rv suitable, as well as facilities. Directions , website, telephone info, even takes you to site to book on line if your planning a few days ahead. It’s a treasure for us on the road since we are fully solar powered to find a park of any type to spend the night we can fit on is all we need as well as power, water, dumping or hike and explore. Still my favorite!Back to traveling with a small camper and I was so glad that this app is still being consistently updated. Public campgrounds are my first choice and this app is my go-to for finding them. It provides basic info and mapping even without cell service and if I’m online the inclusion of satellite picture and weather forecast really assist decision making. If I find an incorrect or expired web link and submit the error, a real person responds within a day or two! I can’t recommend this highly enough for anyone on the road looking for something other than RV “resorts” i.e. parking lots with amenities. This country has so many beautiful public spaces. ConflictedWIN - finding dispersed camping sites, as we prefer avoiding RVs and crowds, with off road overlanding rig and rooftop tent. BIG FAIL - heading to found site with “Central Water” listed and finding NO POTABLE water!! To avoid driving hundreds of miles with water weight we had relied on filling up at site. Instead, we trustingly set up camp COMPLETELY in 90* degree weather and headed down to “central water” to find it was not drinkable. Essential App, but ditched in app directionsThis app is an invaluable resource that I’ve used for years, but unfortunately they removed their wonderfully convenient in app directions that made it simple to navigate offline. Now, if you want directions to a site you are exported to Apple maps, which will drop your trip if you make a stop or the app closes. Also, it repeatedly will somehow redirect to a random spot (seems to be the center of the closest town) rather than your campsite. Very frustrating and hinders the app’s offline usability, which was one of the best things about it. Why can’t you retain an option for in app navigation? Previously we had the option to use an external maps app or in app. At the very least please restore the listed directions so a user can save or screenshot them..The Last MoleVersion: 2.5.4

Awesome App with one major problemIt’s a great app, however the inability to download segments of map (maybe with open street map) for offline use severely limits the backcountry use for finding dispersed sites. You can make a plan for a site, but there is a risk it could be occupied so being able to continue your search when without service would be great! It seems the app already downloads the waypoints, just no map to view them on (unless you managed to cache enough of the region, though this isn’t always super reliable)..SamThrash94Version: 2.7.38

The App Filter is very helpful.This app only shows public campgrounds, so the map is not cluttered up with private RV parks. I use the Good Sam app for those. The UC app filter allows me to choose the type of campsites I want to see on the map: municipal, county, state, federal, etc. And the price I am seeking: free, $1-10, $11-20, etc. I can also filter campsites by the amenities. The app makes it easy to find the details for each campground with a satellite view. I oftentimes seek a free campsite in a primitive setting, so this app is very convenient..Jack 515Version: 2.7.36

Good but could be greatI’ve been using the app for a couple of weeks on a very long cross country trip. I’ve found some really awesome places to camp but also some terrible ones. My only suggestion would be to add a review feature for each location. I have gone to a few places that were either a little sketchy or closed and it would be nice to be able to let other people know. Great resourceI love this app. I use it to research places to stay for future trips. I especially appreciate the listing of all the boondocking sites. The links to campground websites are very handy, and if a link is broken one can report it. I was surprised to get quick feedback from Ted Houghton, the developer, not only verifying that the link was bad (due to a change in the website) but telling me of others in the vicinity which were also no longer allowing camping. So many features that I need a tutorialI love the website, but I don’t want to lug a huge screen around with me. The app fits on my phone (and my iPad) and has all the same data. Our Favorite Camping AppWe have used Ultimate Campgrounds for about 5 years now. It is by far our favorite app. It does a great job with the camping sites, but we also use it a lot for navigating in cities. If there is road construction or just plain slow moving traffic, we are able to take alternate routes. Once the Reviews portion of the app start to get populated w information, this app will. Want Fahrenheit and mph?OK, nowhere on the app mentions how to change preferences for language and units of measurement (e.g. weather data). Support emailed me and stated that those preferences in the app are based on the preferences on your phone. I have an iPhone 10R so I went to: settings->> general->>language & region. I was shocked to see my region was set to American Samoa. Most National Forest and BLM areas with sites are missing from the appThere are so many NF and BLM areas missing from this map that it is difficult to use it to discover new areas to camp. Also missing meaningful data inputs about road access levels (OHV only, etc). Even extremely well known areas are missing from the map, not just the lesser known ones. UselessI paid to get this app, hoping for something dramatically better than Gaia and Google Maps.
