When I bought my first fingerboard, I was annoyed from the fact that there was no reasonable description for the workout or how to use the board, so I created the Boulder Trainer app, which supports the workout and motivates. Please note that Boulder Trainer is a small private project, which I started by my own and I'm trying to keeping it alive and professional which is not always as easy as it appears.

Solid HangoverI probably shouldn’t be able to write a review because I’ve made three workouts and really only ever do one. That one workout is just ten exercises and takes about ten minutes. Thing is with hangs, pull-ups and leg lifts it’s super concentrated—a little habanero sess. And because it’s not overwhelming I don’t have an excuse. So I’ve been using the app for a few years now and it’s been super helpful. Love that I can get super serious and make a big session or just do what I do now and if I’m fit I’ll knock down two or three of my minis..Version: 3.3.14

Excellent function, minor quirksThe function of the app is great. It helps focus the time on the hang board and it allows great creativity creating a workout on whatever hang board you own. There are a few small quirks that make the user experience a bit awkward. For instance, the inability to change the workout from the main workouts screen is a little awkward. You must go into manage workouts, pick the workout you want, then go back to actually do the workout. There’s also some strange quirks when you do anything other than hanging and pulling. It’d be great if there was some extra function for other workouts like sit-ups and push-ups. The app lets you build them, it just says weird things..Version: 3.3.14

It can’t keep time very wellIt’s great for connecting different boards and creating your workouts, but when it comes to actually keeping time this thing is pretty inconsistent. Some sets it seems like it’s counting down fast, other times it’s noticeably slow, and a 5 second countdown takes about 7 seconds (I’ve timed it out). This isn’t frequent but it happens enough during a 30-rep 7/3 hang routine that I notice it at least once or twice a week. Don’t recommend.Version: 3.3.1

Off to a great startAmazing app considering the alternatives. I am seeing that although I have selected my board I am seeing plans for all the boards both in presets and shared boards. Kind of hard to find plans for your own board as there is no **filter** feature (even though I should only need plans for the selected board anyways). Would also be great to see the diagrams in the manage plans section where you see the moves on certain holds but without a reference to the area on the board where that hold is. With a bit of work creating my own plans so they work with my board I can see me using this app more and more..Version: 3.2.2

Exceptional appThis is just what I've been looking for. The app is very customizable, comes with workouts to get you started, and even an online community to share or download workouts. I hope there will continue to be updates, like having a total time at the bottom of the workout (showing how long the workout will take) and during the workout, a counter to tell you how many exercises left until the end...but so far so good. Do the workouts by yourself or with a friend--the voice reminders won't let you gab for too long before remembering you have to get back on the wall. 👍🏻.Version: 3.0.6

Great for the pricePlease add notes. I would like to record where I had to come off the board. Please add option to see board numbers from menu. Please add explanations for which exercises help which abilities and a way to tailor an exercise based off of a personal goal assuming we know nothing of hang boarding. Also, maybe a warning before at least the first few exercises about correct body position and finger care. Also, for some reason even though I set up two days alerts, it’s telling my my next one is 3 days from now. Just a few things to iron out and improve but the way it counts and speaks aloud is super awesome. Maybe if you enabled an option to have her make announcements at any intervals as in when hanging for a minute or more it would be nice to here 30 or 20 seconds intervals. Otherwise this app is freaking great. Stoked on it..Version: 3.3.12

This is exactly what I have neededI have had a board sitting in the back of my closet for three years and it wasn't until I came across this app that I felt good about hanging it up again. Before this app I tried doing my own unstructured workouts and while they were effective I always knew there had to be a better way to utilize the board. Best app available... wishing for iwatch integration nowHave tried most, if not all hangboard apps out and have stuck with this one the last year or so. I love the ability to custom build whatever routine you want. I have several hangboards and multiple different routines depending on my training cycle. I save them to the online *beta* site and it syncs across my two iphones and my ipad. Now the only thing I can wish for is iwatch support which would be perfect....Version: 3.0.6

Impressed enough to write a reviewI'm impressed by the thoughtfulness behind this app. Impressed enough to take a break and write the review. I just recently got a hangboard (actually went all out and build a small climbing wall too :) I haven't been disciplined with my training. Somehow came across this app today and went for it. Best on the AppStoreThis hangboard timer is the best I've been able to find currently on the AppStore. I just wish it had a couple additional features, like: ability to input weight added or subtracted (the notes feature is way too much work as for a workout with 8 hangs/5 reps each would mean inputting weight 40 times) and a rest period that shows a preview of the next hang so you can start adding or subtracting weight. If those were added this would be a 5-star app for sure!.Version: 3.0.6

Pretty good, I wish it would keep the timer going if I click off the appPretty good, the beginner level workout is still pretty advanced. It would be nice to have a warm-up workout and some more base level/introductory workouts. I also wish the timer I would continue timing when I quickly switch over to check a text or switch music. In dire need of an updateThere are a few free apps that offer the same functionality of this one, without the bugs. Protocols are a but clunky to modify, and currently the way to set a hold for an exercise has no visible reference to your selected board. Board selection is also broken, and the options for mainstream board are outdated. The main functionality of using the timer and cycling between exercises, adding rests, adding many duplicate hangs works well, but lots of free apps have similar functionality. I’m sure there’s a few other things that need work, but bottom line: it’s been 3 years since an update, and this is still an excellent tool that could have more users if it gets a bit of maintenance..Version: 3.3.14

Does not workLoad the app, try to change hangboard, nothing happens. Try to get rid of all those Metolius plans, app crashes. Create an account to download plans, that works, but it does not download any plans. Still useful if you have a Metolius board and do your own plans I guess..Version: 3.3.13

Great Hangboard App!I’ve been using this app for over two years and love the ability to easily create my own programs. The countdown feature is very useful as well. These, combined with access to other users programs make this a must have for any climber serous about gaining finger strength..Version: 3.3.14

Great app for aiding fingerboard trainingYappers really use it provides a great mechanism to schedule and execute work out with timers and notifications for rest and start. It would be nice if they had a log mechanism to keep track of your past workouts for looking at your progress. But for now I just put that in a separate spreadsheet..Version: 3.2.2

FunMy board is in the list, but when I chose it the workout plans still instruct you to use holds that aren’t there. Luckily you can take a picture of your board and add numbers for holds. Unfortunately it’s not very easy to add the numbers on both sides of the board if you’re not tech savvy. Overall I really like the app..Version: 3.2.2

Pretty goodThis app has made hang board training way more approachable for me. I love how it verbalizes the countdown and makes it easy for me to focus on hanging on with my full attention. Great but needs improvementThis app needs to be fixed to keep the timer running while boulder trainer is running in the background and I have another app open. Great AppLove the look and feel of the app. I'm able to customize workouts exactly the way I want. Initially I found some bugs with the app and reported it to the developer via Facebook. He responded with a fix within 24 hours! So awesome..Version: 3.0.6

Good not greatPros - easy interface - solid support for many hangboards - easy to customize workout - great timing cues for when hangs begin / end Cons (Constructive criticism) - no ability to listen to music or podcasts at the same time. (Please make this happen! Only a mutant would be willing to hang board without music / other distractions) - when in a workout, allow for the user to skip sections of the workout (as of now it will immediately auto play the very next exercise if you press the "back" button) - I have yet to be able to download / share workout routines with others on their website.. it seems buggy.Version: 3.0.6

So far so goodIt’s been a really helpful app to assist with finding routines and maintaining a track during hangs. Love how many boards are available and how easy it has been to use. Really good hangboard training app!I had been looking for something for hangboard interval training without the need to use chalky fingers on my device. I looked through a couple of stopwatches and interval timers when I came across this app. You can create your own training programme or use one of the templates to start off with. When you start training, a voice will tell you when to hang/do pull ups. And it has a picture of the hangboard you're using so you can see which pockets to use for each hang. It's pretty useful!.Version: 3.0.1
