Kurbo by WW (Weight Watchers) App Comments & Reviews

Kurbo by WW (Weight Watchers) Positive Reviews

Decent, but could use some work.I found this app through a long search of weight loss apps that enabled a “teenage” option. I started it as my New Years resolution this year, and now have an over 100 day streak. I’ve already dropped 20 pounds and I generally feel better as well. This app is fine the way it is, but there are some little things I would critique. The first thing is the problem with documenting meals and activity for past days. Often I forget to track my activities and I can’t go back and fix it later. Another thing I wish was that along with a weekly amount of reds, you get a weekly amount of greens also, I feel like this would encourage people to not only avoid unhealthy foods, but eat more healthy things too. The final thing I would change would be the foods available to track. I would love if there were more options, or if a scan feature was added so one could scan the nutrition labels on food to track it. Over all though, this app is well made and very helpful to kids looking to develop good eating habits and lose a little weight in the process..Version: 3.4.1

Good, but could use moreI honestly like this app and think it is a fun way to loose weight. I don’t have a problem with the red green yellow light system, like most people are having. Although, one thing I would suggest, or if you could explain it to me, is a video about how the portions are measured and which foods get which portion sizes. For example, I know somethings portions are a whole hand, some are a fist, and others can be just a finger. Although, I don’t know which food goes to which portion. Also, I think there should be a barcode scanner so you can scan some of the products you eat because I sometimes I eat a granola bar for breakfast and it’s more of a healthy one but the only one that comes up is an item that is red. I just feel like that would make everything a whole lot easier. I hope you can get back with me and respond, and I hope to see these fixes. If not totally fine..Version: 3.0.8

UI leaves a bit to be desiredI’m trying to keep track of my 5-year-old’s nutrition and weight, as she was classified as overweight at her last appointment. Setting up the app as a parent, I created her profile but it automatically assigned her my last name even though she has her dad’s last name, and it just named her “Kid1”. I don’t know if I missed something when I made her profile, but regardless, there is no way for me to edit her name. I thought perhaps logging onto the site on a computer would let me edit it, but it doesn’t. So now I’m stuck with a profile that says “Kid1”, no buttons that allow me to delete or add profiles, and a clunky user interface with very limited options, which would be fine for a kid using the app but which isn’t so great for the adult trying to use it. I have used WW off and on, and since Kurbo is an offshoot of WW, you’d think the app would be up to speed, but the WW app is light years ahead. The concept of this app is wonderful. The app layout and features is severely lacking and until it is updated, I will have to find something else to help me track my daughter’s nutrition..Version: 3.1.5

This app is amazing!!!Hi, I came to this app because I didn’t feel good about myself. My mom brought it up in a dinner conversation and I decided to try it I got a coach it was amazing I haven’t met my coach yet but I’m really really excited to meet him. I’ve been using the app for A week now and it’s already improving so much! So you get the app you have a choice to pay for a coach or to not pay for a coach. Do you wanna know about how you track your food, well then keep reading! A green light food is like vegetables and fruits yellow foods are like pasta wheat anything with wheat in it. And red light foods are foods with sugar and stuff like that. For example a red light food could be a Coke a cookie and what I learned bacon is a red, because it has a lot of fat in it so anyway this app helped a lot and I hope it can help you to download this app for free and then only pay a little bit of money for a coach I swear it is worth every penny..Version: 3.3.0

Ignore the HAESThis app is a step in the right direction. It’s more important than ever to give kids a healthy and nutritious foundation. Thank you for this in-depth and well made app! We need this more than ever. Many of the people leaving one star reviews don’t even have kids to begin with. Just think: we can teach our kids healthy habits so they won’t have to diet as adults. Letting your child balloon in size and eat unhealthy without constraint is child cruelty. Most 3 year olds don’t know the difference between health and unhealthy. They just know that skittles taste good and look cool. Please, give this app a chance and respect your children and others. Just because you don’t want to eat healthy doesn’t mean you should force that on others. I had an eating disorder when I became a teenager and can say, with full confidence, this app would’ve saved me. There’s no calories, just a clean focus on nutrition and overall health. 10/10 would recommend..Version: 3.0.1

I don’t understandKurbo is an amazing app. It doesn’t encourage “eating disorders” or “fat phobia”. It more encourages being more cautious about what you eat, and trying not to eat unhealthy foods so often. The app isn’t going to criticize someone for not being skinny as a stick. That’s what I don’t understand. People provide no explanation to how Kurbo promotes that type of eating. Eating disorder is a real issue, but Kurbo doesn’t promote it. People don’t know what they’re talking about, because this is truly an amazing app. I mentioned my weight to my coach, as I was proud of myself for losing 4 pounds, and she said that healthy lifestyle matters more than the weight on the scale. After all, it really is just a number. Nothing more. I can’t seem to figure out why people are saying that young children, as young as 4, are developing anorexia nervosa. That is completely untrue. People may already have eating disorders, for example anorexia, when they start this app. Maybe that’s why it gets worse? My advice is that, if you have a problem with healthy eating, don’t download the app. If you think you will develop an eating disorder from being encouraged to eat a bit healthier and stay away from unhealthy foods, don’t download it. That’s all I have to say. Overall a great app, but the community who writes the reviews? Some of them, not so great. xoxo, Staralina.Version: 3.1.5

Good appComing from someone trying to lose weight, this app doesn’t promote anything like fatphobia. and this is coming from a fat person myself. the app doesn’t promote eating disorders. rather, it encourages healthier eating. if you’re struggling with body issues and feel you HAVE to do this, then the app probably isn’t for you. the app has some motivational messages and not once does it say being overweight is actually bad. and the “food is food” approach isn’t really always gonna work. it’s just overall better to be eating healthier things. the app isn’t saying never have red foods, it’s saying don’t eat them TOO OFTEN. and that’s something doctors would say, and if you start thinking your doctor is wrong, i truly don’t know what to tell you. If you feel this app will impact your mental health or if you’re recovering from an eating disorder, simply don’t download the app 🤷🏽‍♀️.Version: 3.3.0

Works Well! The app is amazing and is really easy to use. The only problem is on the game red raisins, there is a couple questions that are hard to answer. One of them asks you to pick if the food is red or yellow, and it doesn’t show what food it is. So you have to just guess. Another one shows you two little people and one looks tired and the other looks calm. You have to guess to pull a character into the game box based off if the activity is light (calm) or hard (tired). The problem is, it doesn’t show the picture. But besides that it is great!!!.Version: 3.1.5

Life changing!Kurbo is just...wow! After being on it for just a few weeks, we already were seeing results. It is a safe, fun, healthy way of getting your health and weight under control. You don’t feel deprived, because you can eat everything in moderation. You have support 24/7 with a personal coach, motivational quotes and cool tips and recipes. The app is fun to use, easy and just brilliant. You’re child can still go to parties and have holidays without feeling depressed and deprived, and we felt motivated and excited from the moment we started! ( and it lasted!) WE LOVE KURBO! BTW, whoever is saying things such as ‘this can cause anorexia and eating disorders’ you obviously haven’t actually used Kurbo. The whole thing is done in a very safe way, and your eating is being monitored, so it is nearly impossible to develop an eating disorder on Kurbo..Version: 3.0.8

A step in the right directionI’m not sure why there are so many negative reviews. My son LOVES candy and anything sweet. I wanted him to be more aware of the foods he was eating that were unhealthy. And that is exactly what this app is doing! It doesn’t stop him from eating what he wants. But it is making him think about healthier options. My kid eats cake, candy, etc. but in moderation. Now, he is opting for fruit instead of that Halloween candy he wanted before. That’s what we are supposed to be teaching our kids! Thank you Weight Watchers! My son loves adding food into his app the same way I do. The only criticism I have is that I wish the app would allow you to put in portion sizes. I know kids are all different sizes and ages, but I think they would benefit from knowing what a healthy portion size is..Version: 3.0.3

I’ve been so much healthier and feeling betterI’ve noticed some reviews that are saying it will promote eating disorders. I haven’t found this for myself. I was going down a very difficult road and I’ve always had a changing relationship with food. This app has helped me to stop and think before eating something. I still have a huge appetite and eat a lot, but I eat a lot of healthy, or green light, foods and less red light foods. The coaching program is fantastic. I was thrilled when I lost ten pounds, and mentioned it to my coach, but she said it was more important about how I feel than the number on the scale. I feel healthy, I sleep better, and I’ve been able to build my stamina. I definitely suggest this app for families to build healthier habits!.Version: 3.1.0

This app makes getting healthy truly FUN! For both kids and adults! This app has it all. The food tracking is super simple by using a traffic light system- even my 5yr old son can identify food color categories and knows how to measure his portions using his hand as a guide. We LOVE the videos, games, and the short guided breathing exercises. The Get Sleepy one is perfect to help settle down and get prepared for sleep. Having a weekly coach is an added bonus as it keeps us all accountable, motivated, and we get to celebrate or WINS each week with our coach. It gives us something to look forward to with our weekly coaching calls. Thank you Kurbo for making a family friendly app!.Version: 3.0.0

This is a wonderful tool to navigate healthy choicesI think this is a wonderful tool for young kids and parents to navigate healthy choices. My 8 year old daughter was just recently diagnosed with high cholesterol and high triglycerides. We have always been health conscious in our house, but because of genetics this is a real concern that we face. As a mother to a young impressionable daughter I worry about her possibly developing body image issues. I would not want her to feel or think that she is on a “diet”. My husband and I know that we need to have an open continuous dialogue about healthy choices and the right amounts of less healthy choices. This app has already made such a positive difference for us, because my daughter is starting to understand that she can still eat what her friends are eating she just can’t have unhealthy snack all day long. I felt the need to post my Positive review amidst all of the controversy and misinformation about this app, because it truly has been a wonderful tool for us and we hope to continue using it..Version: 3.0.1

A great app targeted by online extremistsA group called wakeupweightwatchers has targeted this app calling for it to be banned as it is supposedly dangerous and causes eating disorders. The truth is this app helps kids lose weight in a healthy manner, the app isn’t going to scold a kid for not looking like a skeleton. Unfortunately body positivity extremist groups have resorted to spreading misinformation about weight loss in an attempt to normalize obesity. Obesity is just as unhealthy and dangerous as an eating disorder. This app helps kids avoid obesity, it doesn’t tell them to starve themselves or that they need to purge if they eat too much, all it does is help kids be more aware about how what they’re eating affects them..Version: 3.0.3

A recommendation for KurboI love Kurbo so much. It is a great and easy way to learn to keep a habit of staying healthy. The coaches are so nice and understanding. They will not judge you and only want to help you be successful in your goals. In Kurbo you track what you eat and it is very easy and simple. Learning the serving sizes is also very easy. They also make sure that you understand IT IS NOT A DIET. It is just a way to keep you healthy. Kurbo has already helped me so much and I started only a couple weeks ago. Kurbo wants to help you be confident, successful, happy, and healthy. I definitely recommend Kurbo..Version: 3.3.0

Kurbo is great, but could be a little better.I’ve recently started using Kurbo. And while I love using the app, there are a few things I would add if I have a choice. Although I love the idea of logging my meals, and it has shown me that I eat too much sometimes, where do I find my progress on dies, exercise, or overall weight? That’s one of the reasons I when looking of an app anyways. And for another thing, same for exercise what is the point of counting exercise if I don’t get results? The app is pretty great other than that..Version: 3.1.5

Helping our whole family eat healthy and balancedWe have been using for a few weeks and we absolutely love it! It is NOT a diet app for kids. It’s teaching kids and families how to eat HEALTHY. Learning what foods are good for you and what foods you should limit. This is so smart! We need MORE of this not less. Health is so important. My daughter and I do it together and we both love it. Opens our eyes to some of the bad foods we have been overindulging in. And allows us to plan ahead if we know we want something in a few days!.Version: 3.1.5

I love Kurbo so so so much!!!!!It is a great way to figure out what is red yellow and green and soon you will be able to look back and see how many reds you HAVEN’T ate !!!! If someone offered me a red light normally before kurbo I would take it but not I am turning a lot of it down! I feel so much more confident about n myself and so much happier. It woks almost instantly! It is amazing I am in 5th grade by the way and I used to cry because I hated myself but now I love myself and it is my job to cherish it while I am here on this earth..Version: 3.1.5

Kurbo really works!!I myself tried Kurbo and I lost all of the weight I wanted to! I’m now healthier and make the right decisions! This is great for kids that can’t use adult diets, it’s so easy. All your doing is being more cautious about food and then BOOM you lose weight. Not only is it great for kids to lose weight it teaches them more. What exercises they can do or encouraging stories! Your create habits of being conscious around portions of food and what you are eating!! I’m proud to say that Kurbo is the best thing that I did for myself!!.Version: 3.1.5

Room for improvementI think that they need to make a few changes. They should make lean proteins green- for example a serving of grilled chicken should earn them a green point, but it’s currently yellow. It’s really only setup so that fruits and vegetables are considered good. They should also make the counseling free or at least more affordable. The app currently isn’t designed to recognize when they aren’t eating enough. For example, you can put in that the child only had celery and water and the app doesn’t flag this. Other apps have the ability to recognize when you aren’t eating enough and send a notification..Version: 3.0.1

Good app but shouldn’t be advertised towards children.I’m a college student and personally love this app because I can track what I’m eating without adding a calorie count to it. Last year I tried calorie counting and it restarted my eating disorder, but this color-themed system reminds me to not eat unhealthy snacks 24/7 at school. I personally like this app but I do want to stress that weight loss and diet-type apps are not for kids!!! growing children should not be counting their foods. Let them grow! Don’t instill a diet lifestyle in your children. I went on diets as a child and it turned into an eating disorder. Please be safe when using this app!.Version: 3.0.1

Can’t input proper night. This app doesn’t have a choice to be taller than 120 cm this seems like an oversight many people are taller than 3’ something..Version: 3.0.2

Helped me so muchI’ve cut down on so many foods and i’m finally skinny :)).Version: 3.1.5

Please stop it’s greatStop saying this app is bad I am 14 and I cry myself to sleep everyday because I am obese and no matter what i do I can’t lose weight, I’ve been looking for apps that will allow me to sign up under 18 and I finally did I’m not saying this works because I just got it but I finally have hope..Version: 3.1.5

Healthy Habits for... yes, Children!I understand some people are upset about this App, but if health and mindfulness were really that easy we wouldn’t have statistics reading: “It is estimated that 26% of Canadian children and youth ages 2 to 17 are considered overweight or obese.” - people 26%!!! “In the United States, the percentage of children and adolescents affected by obesity has more than tripled since the 1970’s.” Here we are in the age of fast food, oversized portions and abundant convenience, children should be taught how to navigate the pitfalls; and why shouldn’t it be via a thoughtful and engaging app? Would you pull your children out of class each time the teacher addressed “Canada’s Food Guide?” The fact that the app has been produced by a tried and true brand like WeightWatchers is a huge bonus! I feel confident in the brand. Let’s review, what does weight watchers teach? Don’t eat this ever? That item is off limits! - no. They teach accessibility, moderation and mindfulness. WW thank you..Version: 3.0.1

Great For Teaching About Balanced Eating! This isn’t a diet app. It’s an app for teaching what foods should be eaten plentifully (Fruits, vegetables), in moderation (Breads, Pasta, et cetera), and what foods aren’t the healthiest choice (Butter, ice cream, popsicles, et cetera). This literally has nothing to do with dieting. It has to do with teaching kids, and teens how food should be regulated for health. Yes, fruits and vegetables are the healthiest, and should be eaten plentiful. You shouldn’t be eating a loaf of bread as a meal, but a couple of slices are fine, hence why it’s a moderation thing. Ice cream is a treat, and should be treated as such. That’s literally all this app is teaching..Version: 3.0.1

Great AppTo everyone saying this app encourages eating disorders and fat shaming, you have to understand that obesity and bad eating habits are impacting kids more than ever. Making an app that encourages healthy eating and sustainable goals through healthy lifestyle choices is NOT fat shaming. For many over weight kids, this app will help them regain confidence and health, and in some cases, could even save their lives..Version: 3.0.1

Sign upIt isn't letting me sign up.Version: 3.4.1

Kids have fun and it makes senseI don’t understand why there is so much hate on the app and I wonder if people are just believing what they’ve heard without looking I love the red light system it makes so much sense I hope my kids never count a calorie and just make good decisions.Version: 3.0.1

Great for keeping score of what you eat but...It wants you to play a game called red raisins and you have to pick a “good” choice but sometimes it isn’t accurate. Like it said softball & baseball are “relaxing sports.”.Version: 2.1.7

HHavent started usung the app properly yet but when i was setting it up and asked for my neight in centimetres it wouldnt let me use any number above 120cm? im not 4ft tall😂.Version: 3.0.5

Love itThe app is great to all those people who are hating it you are wrong if kids or teenagers are fat they should lose that weight if the want to no force’s you the app may be a bit strict but it is still awesome..Version: 3.4.1

Amazing appWorks great with helping me stay on track with my healthy eating, and makes me feel like I have accomplished something once I see that I have been eating well and keeping up with my health goals. I also love how it tells you what is healthy, okay to eat in Moderation, or unhealthy. Great work!! :).Version: 3.1.5

It is okIt is a ok app i find that the face time call with your own trainer is a little bit slow to understand.Version: 3.1.5

LimitationsI’m 167 cm or 5 feet 6 inches tall. Only allows between 90 and 120 cm tall. Plus I’m 34. The app didn’t restrict age..Version: 3.0.1
