"Absolutely phenomenal. This is better than any YouTube video, podcast, or music theory book I have read. Within 48 hours using this app I have actually comprehended what is being taught far beyond any previous comprehension for past products. Honestly they could charge more than double the amount and it would be totally worth it." —Artice, May 3, 2022

Waay: Learn music theory App Comments & Reviews

Waay: Learn music theory Positive Reviews

Highly underrated appI think this app is one of the best in the App Store for music theory. I don’t usually comment or give ratings ever, but I just have to make people more aware. I feel that they took a lot of time to make the videos and the games they have to make sure that you actually understand and memorize the lesson all together. I have looked at many videos on music theory and the circle of fifth and I feel that this is the most understanding way that it has been broken down to me. How you can’t continue the lesson unless you’ve reached a certain quota is perfect. The way the lessons are broken down into 5-6 minute videos is great for someone like me who loses his attention too easily. It always kept me coming back and wanting to learn more. The only problem I can see coming from the app is that maybe main hub screen is a little boring and can make you think that you aren’t gonna have fun while learning but I was really surprised when I started watching the first video. I hope to see more lessons in the future from this app!.Version: 2.3.1

Exactly what I neededThis app is incredible. If you’re anything like me, you’ve been wanting to learn music theory for a while and have been putting it off. Recently, I’ve had the desire to dig deep and really learn music theory. I was searching for a course that was clear, concise, and guided. This app fits the bill 100%. The lessons are very well presented and the exercises are a fun way to test and hone your skills. The developer has done an amazing job by gamifying the process and making your progress feel tangible and substantial. Then there’s the cherry on top: this app is a one-time purchase and the developer doesn’t collect your data! Seriously, this kind of honest business practice is unheard of these days on the App Store. A big thank you to the developer, and his two beagles! SUPPORT THIS MAN!.Version: 2.5.3

Musical Mastery Made Easy! Waay is the easiest, fastest possible way to learn music theoryDiscovering Waay has been an absolute game-changer in my musical journey! As someone who's sought to unravel the mysteries of music theory for years, I've finally found a home with this incredible app. The way it breaks down complex concepts into digestible, bite-sized pieces is revolutionary. Alex's crystal-clear videos coupled with practical application exercises have truly transformed my understanding. What sets Waay apart is its clever timer system, gently nudging when to revisit concepts for reinforced learning. For the first time, I feel grounded in music theory, and I can't recommend this app highly enough. It's a must-have for any songwriter or music enthusiast aiming to master the language of music..Version: 3.4.0

Amazing app by an amazing developer! While the pricing has gone up in the past few months for this app, I believe it is well worth it. Music theory for songwriting is simply not taught like this on any other app, making this invaluable. The creator of the app is just one guy, yet he considers ALL customer feedback. For those who can’t afford to purchase the full app, a subscription for a month or two should be enough to get you through all the lessons and get some practice in. If you’ve been wanting to write your own songs but didn’t have a strong music theory foundation before, this app makes everything simple and practical. I love it!.Version: 3.2.1

What a find!I’m so glad I chose this app. I’ve tried so many times in the past to learn music theory and have never been successful UNTIL NOW. In just one week, I understand how to build major and minor scales quickly and identify their chords. I’m now working on chord progressions and can’t wait to start applying all of this knowledge to my guitar playing and maybe even my own songs (something I would never have dared to think about before!). The lessons are clear and concise and the exercises are very helpful. I highly recommend Waay for anyone who wants to finally understand music theory! Best money I’ve spent in a very long time..Version: 2.5.3

Great learning toolI studied music theory in college and I’ve gained more from this app in a few days than a few semesters in class. There are just a few updates I would love to see to make the app more enjoyable to use. Examples are a erase button for the quizzes. It’s very frustrating attempting to correct mistakes. It would also be nice to have access to the segment rules once the timer runs out. When you need a refresher, you have to completely exit the quiz to review the short paragraph from the lesson. Other than that, I highly recommend this app to anyone wanting to learn music theory in an organized fashion..Version: 3.2.1

For me, this has been the one that stuck!I’ve been using the app consistently for two weeks, and my level of understanding for music theory is the highest it’s ever been by far. The lessons are great, but what’s especially good in my opinion is the practice feature. I’ve been spending just a bit of time each day to go back through exercises I’ve already done and try them again, and at this point certain aspects of music theory are starting to feel like second nature to me! I’d like to give a big thank you to the developer, and encourage anyone trying to learn music theory to try this app!.Version: 3.3.0

The key that finally opened the doorI struggled for YEARS with music theory, everyone kept raving about how simple it is, and I always felt confused and stubborn with anything regarding music theory. However I owe everything to this app for finally unlocking the door, it explained everything easily and effortlessly and now I’m able to learn even more theory after using this as my building block. If you still don’t understand or get frustrated do not give up! I even deleted this app from my phone for a year, came back and now I’m finally understanding of music theory. Thank you to the creators of this app!.Version: 2.3.1

Simply fantasticAlthough I’ve never left an app review before, I feel compelled to voice my support for this program. This is by far the cleanest, simplest explanation of basic music theory that I’ve ever encountered. The tutorials, exercises, and overall course design are all excellent. After years of playing various instruments, I finally feel equipped with the fundamentals of theory—something I’d always avoided because it seemed too difficult to learn on my own. I’ve enjoyed this app so much that I could go on and on praising it, but in short: it’s certainly the most worthwhile app purchase I’ve ever made. Thank you!.Version: 2.5.0

So grateful I found this app! It’s been about 20 years since I last studied music theory, and recently found myself writing songs for the first time in about that long too. Really needed a refresher course and this app has been perfect! It breaks down everything really simply, which is not easy to do with something as complex as music theory, and the practice games are great for making sure you’re absorbing everything and improving your skills. If you need a music theory refresher I cannot recommend this app enough!.Version: 3.4.0

Very Helpful Tool, bought the $6 monthly membership, Love it!I always played percussion instruments… struggled with music theory and understanding it. This App was so in depth and the exercises really help your retain and understand the lessons. I had some confusion when it came to learning the fast scales and how to apply the “order of sharps/flats” but I am already a difficult learner so I may have just been confused. But use google to help get clarity in lessons if needed, and it’s definitely worth the $6 a month as it gets more advanced and detailed..Version: 3.3.1

Absolutely Essential for MusiciansI’ve been playing guitar and bass for years now, always just playing what sounded good. I knew music theory was the next step but it confused the heck out of me and I didn’t want to pay a bunch of money for a class. This app made learning theory so easy and simple, my playing has never been better and I feel so much more confident in my music-making ability. Totally worth the money and with what I know about the app now, I would be willing to pay even more for it..Version: 2.5.3

UnbelievableI’ve learned more in 3 days than in the last 20 years, no joke, in regards to music theory. It’s always seemed confusing and mysterious. But put it in a game with some thoughtful dialogue and - what do you know? Suddenly it makes sense since you are actually applying it to something. Now, I’m not saying I memorized everything - but with the formulas provided in understanding the circle of 5th’s (finally!) and 4th’s and the magic chord formulas…honestly it’s like the light was turned on in my brain..Version: 3.2.1

The best way to learn theory if you’re a visual learnerI have tried many other ways to learn music theory on my own and have failed until now. The way this has been explained just clicks in my brain because I can actually see how music theory works with the animated videos. I’m excited to continue understanding my music with this app. Thank you for putting in a way that I can understand!.Version: 3.2.1

Absolutely the best!I just finished the first lesson, and I’m SO happy. I’ve played (memorized) songs on the guitar for years, but never could understand guitar theory. I’ve had several people try to explain it, but it never made sense. It just seemed so overwhelming. It was a foreign language that I couldn’t seem to learn. But Alex explains everything so well, and in such a common sense way, that I finally get it! After YEARS of trying. Best app ever! Thanks Alex!.Version: 2.5.1

Seventh Chords Are NOT included in CHORDS In-App PurchaseIf you're an intermediate or advanced musician looking for an app to practice chords, scales, modes, etc. this app only covers the basics (CHORDS in-app purchase does not include Seventh Chords). Would be excellent if Seventh Chords and (practical) ascending melodic minor and harmonic minor scales were included. Hopefully, an additional course/update will be added in the near future. The app is a great start for beginners (covers basic intervals, triads, Major and natural minor scales.).Version: 2.3.0

Good AppBUT it is in desperate need of more “courses”. Right now it only covers chords and melodies. It would be great if we could also get practice in for inversions and modes. But with what was given I was able to memorize things like relative minors easily. My only other suggestion is to put an option for continuous practice on an area rather than stopping after 30 seconds intervals or whatever it is. Overall great app and it would be worth the money if it had more courses..Version: 2.4.1

I finally understand theoryThis App is an organized way to engage with theory instead of just trying to cram-style memorize things. The exercises helped me actually memorize instead of just staring at flash cards or trying to cram it all. Do yourself a favor and just try the month like me, at $7 it’s a steal to finally have the understanding I was always looking for..Version: 3.1.1

UsefulIt’s a well made beginner app to learn how to quickly recognize chords and keys. I paid for one month to check it out and I learned some useful tips and tricks. However, it is not worth the price or the monthly fee. $10 purchase is sufficient for this game and tutorial. There is a wealth of free information online so the app is really not necessary. You’d get more bang for the buck taking a music theory class at a community college..Version: 3.1.1

It’s finally sinking inYour app has made it really sink in and the practice courses are a great memorization tool. The reminder to play our instrument and use what we’ve learned to write songs is extremely helpful as well. In school it felt very academic and you’ve brought the “play” back in playing and learning about music..Version: 3.2.1

Clear, concise easy to understand basic theory lessonsVery well organized intro to basic music theory with guided skill building exercises. Very clearly presented with a logical flow that builds on what you’ve learned. I was very pleasantly surprised at how much I was able to learn in just a few days. This app demystifies music basics for beginners and tracks your progress as your knowledge base increases. I highly recommend it..Version: 2.4.1

The memorization app I needed! As someone learning music theory on guitar, I was looking for a way to commit everything to memory: scales, accidentals, intervals, chords etc. This is the perfect way to work on those skills when not in front on your instrument. I almost went down the path of learning to make an app myself just to create an easy way to quiz myself. So glad I found Waay first..Version: 2.4.1

Great App!This app is great for learning music theory in a fun way. It teaches you the theory in a a simple and easy to understand way too. This may not be fair but I want to give a four star to encourage the app developers to add a feature that I thing would complete the app; That is to have the notes on a virtual piano. Because why forgo the opportunity to both learn theory and solidify our knowledge of where all the notes lie on the piano? Great job developer guys and gals?.Version: 2.3.0

Experienced musician, beginner theoristI’ve been piano for years. Picking up a bit of theory here as there as it was necessary but never really diving in. I recently decided I wanted to elevate my playing, and was recommended to check out Waay as a fun, easy way to learn theory. So far I’ve loved it. Simple, bite sized lessons I can do in my phone in my free time. Great app!!.Version: 3.0.3

The best most awesome music theory app. This app is actually fun and so useful!! So happy I found it, this is the one your looking for! Easy to digest music theory without the fluff you see on every other app! Seriously give this a shot because it changed my life when it comes to understanding music theory..Version: 3.1.0

Great addition to learning music theory!Music theory can be and is very complicated. Anything that adds fun while learning it is a plus. It’s all about the reinforcement of scales, intervals and notes. This app makes it fun, easy and my favorite go-to when I’m waiting in line. Perfect app for all music theory students! AAA+.Version: 2.4.1

Intuitive and straight to the pointI started music theory recently with a few beginner audio books. I also bought a hard copy to supplement my learning. While the one I am using is really good it is broad and intense. What I love about these app lessons is how much territory this covers in a clear and concise manner. Did I say how fast learning these lessons are? I was up to speed in a fraction of the time compared to the books I am studying. This teacher is very, very good and I hope the lessons are expanded. Well worth the $$$..Version: 2.4.1

Incredible music learning toolI’ve been looking for something for so long to help me really get my head around music theory. This app/program is the best I’ve found yet. So thankful for this..Version: 3.3.1

Amazing Learning ToolI’ve played guitar for many years and always struggled with music theory. Waay made it so I finally grasped the circle of fifths and was able to apply it, which has really vaulted my playing and understanding to another level..Version: 2.4.1

Really Useful and enjoyableI really like this app. The approach to learning is easy to understand and engaging. I wonder if you guys would make an ear training app that teaches melodic/harmonic minor and the like if you haven’t already..Version: 2.5.3

Gate Way To NotesIn 3 Days I learned about Notes and Scales. The quizzes drove me crazy like a relentless teacher that wanted to make sure I knew my notes and scales. I like the most how every quiz is different, even if you try to start the quiz over..Version: 2.3.1

Awesome app. Definitely put some care and very thoughtfulStarted this app a couple weeks ago and I love it. Excellent exercises and they change every time you redo the exercise. I would highly recommend this app.Version: 2.5.1

Well made app. Way too pricey. One of the best made apps I've ever used. Price is way too high for the basic information that's given. But I enjoyed checking out the free lesson..Version: 3.0.3

Great for just beginnersI’m 20 years old I’ve never played an instrument or taken a music class I had no idea what anything meant when I started but this has made it really easy to start learning very happy (:.Version: 2.4.1
