Keeps getting rid of everything that made it good Ive been using discord since 2016, and paying for nitro for most of it because it was a platform i enjoyed and i wanted to support it as much as i could. unfortunately with every update they remove features that users love, move things that were available for free to a paid subscription, only to later move it up another tier to the more expensive subscription. it feels like they dont value their users anymore and im tired of it. the most recent change was the final straw for me, getting rid of the unique username system that was revolutionary for a social media app, just to become another tiktok insta twitter clone with 0 personality. their reasoning was that an easily copy-pastable username with a four digit discriminator was too hard to remember, so now instead of having essentially unlimited options of usernames, you can only use 32 latin characters, period and underscores — so if your desired name is taken, which it will be, youre gonna have to add a bunch of unnecessary symbols anyway. like four digits maybe. or more, bc any username combination u can think of will be taken before youre even given the option to make yours. it ruined any feeling of individuality and may also become a spam and safety concern as you can just search and add whoever has the name you wanted directly. ive cancelled my subscriptions and im entirely turned off using this platform until they start showing they care what their userbase actually wants. wish i could say ill hope for a rollback or another change to rectify this mess but the trackrecord has not been great. Could never reccommend again. Discord used to be a platform I reccommended to all my friends, if they were gamers or not. It used to be just a communication platform with abilities to host communities. Sadly that is long gone now. They focus on microtransactions, nitro, server boosting and other predatory features. Always something broken Discords newest update proved amazing at annoying everyone regardless of previous opinion. Drastic changes in User Interface proving the least controversial if only by the more disturbing banality of all the bugs and issues that were absent before it. Sometimes channels disappear. Sometimes entire servers. Sometimes you try to move to private messages and are met with blank wall of nothing. You try to open a server. Same blank wall of nothing. Sometimes both happen at once. Restart the app. Now whatever channel or server or DM you open, same 3 messages appear and are stuck no matter what you do. You try to write something and click send. It disappears. Try to catch up on conversation? The 'x messages since' button disappears. Or not! Sometimes it's stuck no matter how many times you click to close it. I don't want even to get into the UI changes and how it made the experience such a chore. I will only say that the decision to limit the search option to a single channel in servers is the most horrendous one.
