Solid Starts: Baby First Foods App Comments & Reviews
Solid Starts: Baby First Foods Positive Reviews
All parents/caretakers need this app!As a new mom almost two years ago, I got swept up in researching baby led weaning while pregnant and decided that’s what we were going to do when it was time for my son. Well, by the time my son was 6 months old and ready in February 2020, I got nervous. How do I cut these things for him? Any foods to avoid? Do I have to introduce 1 food at a time for a certain # of days to help show allergies? It doesn’t all have to be mushy/purée food? Even with looking into baby led weaning, I still had so many questions and though I love my pediatrician, they gave such outdated information that I wasn’t sure where to turn! Thankfully I found SolidStarts on Instagram (right when they first started!) and that was the support and guidance I needed this whole time! Save to say, my son will be turning 2 this august and is an AMAZING eater. Every time we go to a family members house, out to eat at a restaurant, or even random social media posts, everyone says how they are amazed with how well he eats and I have to give a big THANK YOU to Jenny and all of the team at Solid Starts because this mama would’ve been so lost and confused without all of their information and support! I highly recommend not only this app but checking out their Instagram page too. So many helpful tips and advice and seeing real babies with how and what they are eating. Thank you again Solid Starts! I’ve got one HAPPY eater!.Version: 1.3.9
All mamas need this!As a first time mama, I had fed my son too many purees at first and when it was time to feed him solid foods, I wouldn’t feed him much of a variety because he would try something and act like he didn’t like it so I would just think to myself, “Okay. He doesn’t like that. I’m not going to serve it again.” This led to him being picky and not really willing to try new foods. I wouldn’t say that he’s extremely picky, but still.. I knew that I wanted to do something completely different the second time around. As a second time mama, I decided to go with baby led weaning. I knew that I was going to do it, even if I didn’t know how. Right as I was having my second child start solids, I found solid starts. And thank goodness because it helped me so much. I was able to serve him a variety of foods, have him eat what we ate by learning how to cut it and just make simple modifications like not adding salt or sugar. It was slow in the beginning, mostly because I was always afraid of him choking. But they teach you the difference between choking and gagging as well. And as he for better at eating I became more confident in what I was doing as well. I owe it all to solid starts. I would recommend this app to any of my mama friends or family. So great to see my son eat 3 meals a day at only 10 months old and my first son willing to try new things as well..Version: 1.5.6
MUST HAVE FOR ALL PARENTSI’ve used Solidstarts Instagram to learn how to cut foods and recipe ideas. However, the FREE app is beyond convenient to search exactly what you’re trying to serve. I’ve used his app for my first child. He’s now 20 months and thriving with food. He eats what we eat and I owe it all to Solidstarts. My daughter is 7 months and we started solids about a month ago. I’ve since forgotten how to serve a lot of foods for her age range. But then I can easily search the app and see how to cut foods, how to prepare, nutrition facts, history of the food etc. and it’s all backed by specialists, doctors and research. There’s also a free recipe included with each food they have in their system. Which is a win-win. You can decide to purchase a subscription to track foods. Their website also provides even MORE searchable data. They have a very advanced search engine which allows you to look up things like “prevent picky eating”, “baby eating fast” etc. and all the articles will populate on that topic. It’s amazing what this company is doing. I recommend this to all of the parents I know. I can’t thank them enough for their hard work and dedication!!.Version: 1.8.5
Pretty good!I love this app, it has been so helpful in so many ways! My son has a dairy protein allergy and so this app made it easy to keep track of what he had tried for his appointments. I did purchase the 100 dollar add on that goes over the whole plan and 100 foods in 100 days etc and I have to say I looked at it once when I bought it but it was like 200 pages and so I never referred back to it again, with a new baby who had dietary complications I just didn’t have the time to sit down and do it but others may find it helpful! The only reason I gave the app 4 stars is because of his allergy, there is no option to modify. So yes he’s tried bagels, and yes he’s had this and that, that may include dairy but I gave him non dairy options or substituted the dairy and it does not have the option to do that. So it looks like I introduced dairy when I had not. Which is fine at this time but then when I do introduce dairy it will get complicated to remember if “this bagel or that bagel” were the ones with the dairy or not. I wish they had a food allergy option. Maybe prompted questions “this item contains dairy, was a substitute made?” and the parent clicks yes and it tracks that. But overall, I use it daily, I’ve kept track of everything he has eaten since he started eating foods and I love having this tool..Version: 2.6.2
Extremely DisappointedI absolutely do not appreciate the snaky way the solid starts team suddenly changed their policy on their food database. I just started solids with my firstborn a month ago and have been using their food database (advertised over and over as always free on their instagram/website) to learn how to cut/prepare food safely for my infant, until suddenly I received a countdown saying I had five free searches left before needing to pay an exorbitant price of $20/month or $100 per year. I immediately went to their instagram, where I was confused by their continued messaging stating the food database would continue to be free even with the rollout of their new app. Today, those comments are mysteriously gone, and have been replaced by stuffy corporate legal messaging stating they needed to make this change to continue to offer quality information to parents. Needless to say, I deleted the app. Update: I am very pleased to hear that Solid Starts has decided to rollback the update and make the food database free again. I have updated my rating accordingly, as I find the food database to be a great resource for new parents starting solids, and I am glad to see it is no longer held behind a paywall..Version: 3.4.2
Every new parent needs this app!I am SO thankful for this app and the Solid Starts team. As a first time mom, I had zero idea of how to start solids. My only example of feeding a baby was puréed foods with a spoon held by a parent. The content provided by Solid Starts gave me the confidence to start solids when my baby was ready shortly after 6 months! We were extra nervous because baby girl had food allergies while breastfeeding, but the app gave me the tools I needed to track allergen exposure as well as help with spotting allergic reactions. I figured out how to serve the foods we were eating in a baby safe way (preparing only 1 meal was a game changer!) AND, when accompanied by their website, I Iearned how to coach my baby to spit, how to spot gagging, how to prepare for and also possibly prevent choking, and how to provide an array of foods without pressure so my girl would develop a healthy relationship with food. I’m now learning the difference between normal toddler eating behavior and picky eating - which I never would have known without this team. Thank you for this free resource!! THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!!.Version: 1.8.5
Lifesaver, this app!My baby girl is six months old and a few days. Nervous and excited were the two emotions I felt as I prepared for the inevitable day of introducing solid foods. We introduced food a few days ago (on her 6 month birthday) and it’s going good, not great, just as expected. However, the solid stars app gave me total peace of mind and confidence as I prepared for this. I used the app to search for foods, save my favorites, watch videos, learn about how to serve food, recipes, etc. Just 3 days in and my baby has tried avocado, sweet potato, and banana. There’s been some gagging, but I was able to remain calm, smiling as she worked through it (seconds felt like minutes!). She’s been playing with the food, putting some in her mouth either directly from the tray or spoon, and spitting most of it back out. Anyways, I’m so excited to keep going and share my love for food with my baby! Highly recommend solid starts to anyone with babies! I signed up for the subscription, in order to be able to log foods, save favorites, so on. Love it!! Thanks solid starts :).Version: 1.5.6
Guesswork gone with starting solids!Love this app and have paid for the tracking features as well because it allows me to log and see how many different foods my son has tried! We’re aiming for 100 different foods/ingredients by the time he is 1 year old! I love all the details and thought put into this app with how to feed by age, recipes, choking and hazard info, and allergen info. Takes the guesswork out of baby led weaning! And I’m able to look items up on the spot because we’re not big on cooking right now but can at least cut up or quickly cook an ingredient for my son. My husband and I feel so much confidence in being able to feed our son (and have him feed himself!). The gagging and coughing don’t scare us as we’ve now learned it’s natural and an important part of learning how to eat. We’re at one meal a day so far with doing dinners and it’s starting to feel like this fun routine! Adding another meal soon as well as lettting daycare feed our son. Using this app has made it all surprisingly easy!.Version: 1.8.5
Raising a very happy eater with this appI was introduced to Solid Starts when my son was a newborn and solids was the last thing on my mind at the time (I was dealing with postpartum anxiety and my son had terrible gas pains disrupting his sleep). When he turned 6 months and was ready to start solids, this app was the first thing I turned to after following Solid Starts on IG for a few weeks and understanding the benefits of finger foods and BLW. We introduced whole broccoli florets as his first food with nervous excitement and now that he’s about to turn 9 months, broccoli is still one of his favourite foods. We’ve introduced over 90 different foods to him in just 3 months all thanks to this app and all the resources on the Solid Starts website. It’s relieved much anxiety as a new mum and it’s helped me educate family members and friends too who also now support how he eats (instead of saying babies can only eat purées). I cannot recommend Solid Starts enough to anyone wanting to help their baby/child become a happy (and safe) eater!.Version: 1.8.5
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!Phenomenal app! My amazing lactation consultant recommended this to me and it has changed everything! I was making my son’s purées when she suggested I started solids and told me about the app! His pediatrician hadn’t said much about solids or even starting them so this has been amazing. As a first time mom this is helping me to navigate things I wouldn’t otherwise have known. You’d think a baby should have tiny pieces of food! WRONG! It talks you through everything! How to prepare and serve the food, choking prevention, utensils, meals, EVERYTHING! If you’ve wanted to get into baby led weaning or are even just wanting to start solids i HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND AND ENCOURAGE THIS APP!! You don’t have to pay for the basic features! As a single mom I don’t have a ton of extra money, however, paying for premium isn’t something I regret or question. Recipes, guides, a tracker for the foods, this is THE app. They also have a 7 day free trial too if you want to dabble! I can’t recommend this app enough!!.Version: 3.5.13
Used to be freeUpdated: See developers response below! So happy to see a company actually listening to the consumer and making changes for the better! This app was wonderful during my journey feeding my first. Looking forward to using it again with my second. Thank you, Solid Starts! I’m so disappointed to learn that this app is now only usable with a paid subscription. I used this app with my first child in 2022 and everything was free about the app. I just redownloaded it to use with my second child and now you have to pay for everything? I can’t even see the how/when to feed something without paying. That is such a disappointment that Solid Starts got greedy after building a fan base and began charging mothers for every feature that used to be free. I would understand charging for special features but the basics should still be free for those of us who just need to easily reference something. It’s useless without paying now..Version: 3.4.2
A must have for all parents!I started following Solid Starts on Instagram before I was even pregnant. I came across their page when they were first getting started and thought, “when I have kids, this is how I want to teach them to eat.” Fast forward a couple years, and I’m now pulling my 9-month old up to the table in her high chair and sharing meals with her. She eats what we eat, and she loves food and is a fantastic eater. If it weren’t for Solid Starts, I would certainly have puréed everything not knowing there was another option. Their app is one of the most used on my phone, as I’m constantly checking to make sure I’m preparing food for my daughter safely and to keep an eye out for what to watch for (possible reactions, choking hazards, etc.). And what’s more incredible is, it’s free! What Jenny and her team have provided to parents is an incredible resource. I highly recommend following them on Instagram, as well as purchasing their guides if you can..Version: 1.8.5
Thank God for this app! This app has been a Godsend for this FTM trying to navigate how to do baby-led weaning. So much thought, time, and research clearly went into this to make it as helpful and user-friendly as possible. I love how the format is consistent across foods so I always knew where to find nutrition info, whether a food is an allergen or choking hazard, how to prepare it based on age, and recipes. I honestly don’t know how I would be making it through this baby milestone without it! One update after seeing some critical reviews - those people rating it a 1 or 2 are clearly not using this app correctly, don’t understand that there are still many features that are useable without a subscription, and/or just plain angry people who will obviously critique and complain about anything. Some of their complaints truly bother me because this app has clearly been a labor of love from Jenny and her team and has such tremendous value!.Version: 1.8.5
Practical guide with a sound scientific backgroundAs new parents we are always fretting over every little thing. Being physicians (not pediatricians) only made things worse for us, as we (my wife mainly) imagine the worst possible scenario in every little thing. When our 10 month old stopped eating like he used and started spitting food out every time we tried feeding him, we were very concerned. But Solid Starts app came as a blessing. With hundreds of food suggestions, articles written by experts in the field and evidence based dietary recommendations, it’s a must have resource for every parent. What I teach my kid at this age is going to stay with him for his lifetime, that’s very important. I see morbidly obese patients in my day to day practice and it is very evident that most patients develop unhealthy relationship with food. I want to teach my kid at a very early age to have a healthy relationship with food. Highly recommend..Version: 3.0.0
You must get this app!!Love everything about the app!! So easy to keep track of the foods I’ve been feeding baby. I love the videos, it helps so much. The nutritional facts, the way it categorizes the foods by baby’s month .. i love to follow them on Instagram. Love everything about the app!! Love your stories and follow your journey with your twins and Charlie. You have helped me so much figuring out safe foods for my 6 month old. If I could just give one piece of advice to the makers of the app.. allow for some type of “family sharing” database .. my partner downloaded the app and I already paid for the yearly subscription and is making her also paid for the subscription when she downloaded the app even though she’s logging in with my information. How are we supposed to “share” our sons information if we each have our own app information in it, should be easier to share the info. Please and thank you ..Version: 1.2
Absolutely must have for anyone with babies or toddlersThis has been my absolute favorite app of all time. I’ve downloaded dozens and dozens of apps since getting pregnant with my first baby and this one is the absolute most helpful by far. I use it no less than 5x a day I’m sure. Also the website and courses/videos by solid starts are incredible. I did spoon feeding and purées with my first born and he became a terrible picky eater. The solid starts program has helped us so much in getting him back on track. When my second baby was born, I started using their resources right away and she has become the most wonderful eater. We enjoy meals as a family now and it has truly been life changing. I wish so much I’d had this when my first was born so we could have known all the things we could have been doing better from the start! This app is the best, truly couldn’t live without it now..Version: 1.8.5
Best resource for working (all) moms.I was amongst the first 10k to start following solid starts on instagram. It was the best investment into my child’s weaning journey in the thick of the pandemic when resources and people were scarce. Jenny’s family felt like my family. It was everything. But who knew the app was so much more spectacular. Now with my second child I just got to the app. Check the food the family is eating and see how I can make it safe for my babies age and capability. All the information is available. So much of it is free. I’ve paid for the subscription because now I feel so empowered thanks to Solid Starts that I want to push my limits as a weaning mom. But I have enjoyed a lot of free resources as well. I cannot recommend this account and app enough! And as a side note it’s quite the favorite amongst pediatricians and physician moms as it is evidence based and rooted in science..Version: 3.0.0
EVERY PARENT NEEDS THIS APPI would be so lost as a parent if it wasn’t for Solid Starts. I WAS lost before I found solid starts. There is SO much conflicting information out there about starting solids. I remember when one of the first foods I gave my then 6 month old was mashed raw raspberry, and I FREAKED OUT for a week after my mom told me I couldn’t give him raw berries just yet. I googled it and sure enough, there were websites that supported that statement. But then other website said no big deal. Solid starts and this app completely take the guessing out of it, and I am so thankful for that. I really love the fact that I can trust them with all my heart and know that they are never sponsored. My science background mind NEEDS credibility, and the information provided in this app is credible and beyond. Every pediatrician needs to recommend this platform to parents. I ALL here for this baby food revolution ❤️.Version: 1.5.6
Wonderful! Must have for Baby led weaning!I’m a first time mom, and I started spoon feeding my son, but he always gazed longingly at our food when we would eat. I had heard of baby led weaning but wasn’t sure about it (choking, yikes). Solid starts Instagram page led me to their app. This team of professionals has put together an amazing app, including any food you can think of, recipes, how to cut the food safely for your child’s age, videos of other children eating, nutrition, allergy info, choking info and more. I’ve never felt more confident feeding my son than I do now after a few months of using the app. I use it practically every day for guidance on size guides for foods and recipes. Thank you solid starts! (There are some app glitches, but overall I have to give it five stars. It’s a relatively new app, so I’m sure with time their amazing team will work out the kinks.).Version: 1.5.6
Solid Starts is amazing!!If you haven’t already, follow Solid Starts on Instagram, subscribe to the newsletter, buy the All Access Pass and soak in all the amazing content provided in the FREE app and website database. This has been my go-to resource for all things baby-feeding (and still is, even though my Little has moved into toddlerhood). The content Solid Starts provides is so well researched, completely vetted by so many professionals/experts, is wonderfully inclusive, and completely real (no paid promotion recommendations, no “this is all happy and easy”, and no shame if you fed your kid cereal for dinner today)... It’s just about providing resources, encouragement, and support so families can avoid raising picky eaters and provide opportunities for their babes to (safely) get exposure to a ton of different flavors, textures, & colors. I’m a big fan and can’t recommend Solid Starts enough!.Version: 1.2
Incredibly helpful! This app is worth very penny! I knew when my son had intolerances from breastfeeding that we would need to log his solid intake when we started baby led weaning at six months. I am so thankful we found Solid Starts to help us not only track which foods he has tried, but also reactions. This app is extremely helpful in giving the best research based information on allergens, choking hazards, how to serve foods, where foods come from, and even how the food can impact their diapers. I use Solids Starts every day and love being able to quickly search for a food that I'm unsure of how to cut or serve appropriately for my son. It is also helpful to see at a quick glance which fruits and veggies we have had that day/week so we can offer a nice variety. I 100% recommend this app to any parent who is starting solids with their little ones!.Version: 1.7.16
Must have for parents, but especially useful for new parents!Raising a kid is hard, especially as you pass new milestones. When the pediatrician told us we were good to go to start solids, I was lost. I spent weeks researching and had a really hard time finding any thing that was actually evidence based. Somehow, I stumbled on SolidStarts on Instagram and I am so thankful for the information they provided. My son is now 18 months and he is an amazing eater (although we have hit the toddler refusal stage.) I feel so empowered knowing that my son has developed such great eating skills. And my in laws and blown away that my son prefers broccoli to chocolate 🤷♀️ thank you for what you are doing, it is game changing!!! The app is amazing for tracking foods tries, reactions, etc. I also love how it guides you on how to serve food based on age. This is a must have for parents!.Version: 2.1.3
Way more helpful than my pediatrician! While I love my pediatrician, he’s a bit, mmm, behind on the research into feeding babies. He wanted me to use rice cereal, avoid nuts until my son is 12 months old, and stick to just purées. This app (along with the bundle on the website) made me feel EMPOWERED to take control. EVERYTHING is evidence-based. The studies they reference are linked. Each food includes a recipe and even flavor pairing suggestions. My son is 9 months old and has already tried 79 foods, and it’s truly thanks to Solid Starts! I subscribed to track what my son eats in a day and I love seeing the number of foods tried increase! I recommend Solid Starts to everyone who has a baby, and I can’t wait for the Spanish version of the app to be released because I live in LatAm and just know so many of my friends here will benefit from the resource in Spanish!.Version: 1.8.5
BLW Successful Thanks to this AppI started BLW at 6 months using just this app and their social content for guidance. My baby is now 18 mo and I can proudly say BLW was completely successful in every way. My baby is a great eater; not fussy and open to trying different foods. She's very healthy in terms of her growth percentiles and got plenty of exposure to allergens. It was scary to offer her solid foods at first, so the most useful feature was the "How to Serve" feature with helpful diagrams. I referenced it daily and it helped ease my fears of choking. My baby has learned how to manage foods well and can safely spit out foods that she'd otherwise gag on. For the good presentation, utility, peace of mind, and most importantly - my baby's well being, this content is invaluable. I recommend it to every new mom I know and look forward to reinstalling with the next child..Version: 3.4.0
THE “Go-To” App for Baby Led Weaning!!First discovered Solid Starts from their Instagram page. SUCH a wealth of knowledge and loved everything about it, including the founder’s outlook on BLW. We got the all-access pass prior to starting solids and it was SO helpful for our baby’s intro to solids journey. Since they’ve come out with the app, I use it at least 3-4 times a day to investigate how best to serve new (and old) foods to my now 8MO. I especially love that they always break things down including clearly identifying allergens, which is necessary since my little one is allergic to 4 of the common food allergens. Thanks to the app, we’re able to easily avoid those foods, but still be able to serve all kind of fun and nutritious things to our rockstar eater. Thank you Solid Starts and Jenny for helping our family navigate how best to feed our child!.Version: 1.5.6
Taking the fear out of starting solidsI have loved Solid Starts on Instagram for awhile. I could hardly contain my excitement when she announced they were launching an app. This app does not disappoint. As moms and dads, time is one of the most valuable things we have. I spent weeks researching baby led weaning before a friend recommended solid starts. The information on baby led weaning is often overwhelming and intimidating. I felt defeated before I even began. Having a go to resource like this (almost) takes the stress away. It’s everything you need in the simplest possible form. Nothing is overwhelming and it’s broken down in ways that make starting solids manageable. I can’t say enough good things about this entire team of wonderful experts. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for taking something so many of us love and making it even better!.Version: 1.0.7
This app changed my life.Solid Starts has been a game changer for our family. The pediatrician told us to start introducing solids around 5 months. No directions. No guidance. Lots of googling "can babies eat ..." and anxiety was skyrocketing. I was going down the path of purees and spoon feeding. Then soon after a friend told me about Solid Starts and I've watched every Instagram story ever since. Jenny and her team gave me a priceless gift-one thing to cross off the worry list in raising our daughter. I have a 16 month old little foodie all thanks to this app and this team. It's on my Home Screen. I use it all the time. Just so grateful for the Herculean effort it took to build this and have paid it forward telling any friend with a new baby to further this community and Jenny's most admirable mission to create a feeding revolution. It's unstoppable..Version: 1.7.16
Amazing!!!I love this app soooooo much , there is so much attention to detail, so much information and a lot of it for free. Yes you can find a lot of this info elsewhere but who has time for google when you have a baby. I understand why they cant really divide this by age group, like i read in a 2 star review (????) , if you really think about it… you can have a 7 month old who is a pro at eating certain things or like me have an 11 month old who has just started solids, everyone’s experience is unique and you can’t really force a baby to eat something if he is not ready. I greatly appreciate all the information the solid starts team has put together and is constantly sharing in the app, the website and instagram. It brings so much peace to my day to day. Just thank you!!!.Version: 1.5.6
Awesome tool for BLW and even olderI followed Solid Starts on Instagram since before I started solids with my first child about 3 years ago. They were so helpful for overcoming the fear of choking and just feeling confident to help my babies explore food. I was so happy when they finally came out with their app and just in time for my second baby! I could easily and quickly look up a food I wasn’t sure how to introduce or if it was safe. They have such a great range of foods so I usually don’t have much problems finding it but if I do I know it will eventually get added. Jenny, the founder, and all her team are incredible and so generous! I am extremely grateful for what they’ve done to help my family and so many parents out there! I love the Solid Starts team and this awesome app!.Version: 2.1.3
LIFESAVERAs a mom of 4 little ones, 3 of whom were born during the pandemic, this app saved my life. It’s literally like Google for how to feed your baby properly and safely. The entire Solid Starts community is POWER for women, mothers, parents. The work they do is amazing. And to be able to have access to something like this FREE of cost says so much about what they stand for. Having knowledge about how to safely and properly feed your baby REAL food from the start shouldn’t be a secret, it should be available to everyone. And this app is just the start of all the amazing things they will do. I have so much confidence in my little eaters and the skills they’ve gained because we followed the methods presented to us by this amazing group of professionals. Incredible resource for mom of 4I will shout these praises from the rooftop!! I am a mom of four now (10m, 6y, 9y, 11y) and have done BLW with all of them. But stumbling upon this for my fourth is literally a game changer. This includes SO. MUCH. INFO. Like safe preparation, and for different developmental ages - 6mo, pincer grasp, 12mo+. Also nutritional info; like “a food source of protein, but watch out for added sugar” or “this food is higher in sodium to include every day; but sometimes inclusion in a special family meal is more important, and it’s okay to have occasionally.” This type of realistic advice, and from professionals and experts, is top notch. Bonus: everything i mentioned is part of the free version, and it doesn’t constantly bug you to buy the premium version just to finish reading..Version: 2.3.7
Helped my family successfully navigate feeding our first! My daughter is currently 15 months and I have to say, the solid starts app (and IG account and all associated materials) have been one of the most used parts of my day. It’s so nice and quick to reference age appropriate serving, I can’t believe such a comprehensive database is free (although I also do recommend the paid programs as well with gusto!). It gives confidence during such an uncertain time. My daughters pediatrician even told me today during a checkup appt she took the Pros course and recommends this program now to all of her patients. I was so stoked to hear and so proud of the solid starts team (I feel like I know them hah)! Tl;dr - 10/10 recommend for all parents to navigate feeding!!! You won’t regret it!.Version: 2.2.2
Happy TearsWhen I first learned about baby lead weaning I knew it was what I wanted for my children, but I would not have had the confidence to do baby lead weaning without Solid Starts. My first child began solid foods just over two months ago and introducing her to real foods has been the most incredible experience. Watching her explore and enjoy eating the foods that are important to our family regularly brings tears to my eyes. I cry at the dinner table on a regular basis because my daughter is forming such a positive and wonderful relationship with food and I could not feel more elated. I am someone who has a clinically diagnosed anxiety disorder and solid starts has helped me to become so educated on baby lead weaning that I’ve never felt anxious when my daughter has been eating..Version: 1.8.5
Download now!!I started following solid starts on instagram back when I had my first born. At that point they didn’t even have an app but I would go on their website! Once I had my second I immediately went on the solid starts website and found the app! Omg, this is literally the best! I did pay for the year subscription but it’s worth it. This is a life saver, I love that they tell you exactly how to serve each food for each age group and you can log each food they’ve tried. I was having a little issue with the app so I emailed support and they got back to me so quickly and resolved the issue! I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this app/company! Love love love! Thank you for making baby led weaning easier for me!.Version: 2.6.1
Amazing!!We used Solid Starts for our now almost 3 year old. She eats better than some adults we know!! We always knew we would use it with any future children. Our second daughter, who is now 6 months old, is on track to be another great eater. Jenny and her team teach the parent, which I think makes all the difference! We weren’t scared of choking because we understood the mechanics of it. We weren’t afraid of giving allergens because they laid out a great plan. We learned that a mess is part of the process. By learning what to expect and how to facilitate eating for our girls, they had the freedom to explore and find foods they love! This is the NUMBER 1 product I tell expecting parents to remember! Big Solid Starts fans in our house!!!.Version: 3.0.0
LOVE ItI so wish I had found this years ago with my first two kids! I did purées too long with my first because I was so scared. So glad to have this resource now with my third who refused purées from the beginning. I did not know what to do, but I found Solid Starts on IG and watched so many videos of babies gagging to help me not panic when starting out. Thank you Jenny and team for helping this third time mama (prone to anxiety and worry) with first time baby led weaning feel more comfortable and confident starting solids. Starting solids is one of my least favorite milestones to be honest, but Solid Starts has been such a blessing and valuable resource! It is so nice to have baby be able to eat much of what we eat with modifications. Thanks so much for your hard work!!.Version: 1.8.5
They are the bestAs a brand new and instant single mom fully isolated for nearly two years during the pandemic (May 2020 babies, hollaaaa) I cannot tell you how invaluable this database was for me when my baby was ready to start solids. The app and database are both gorgeously designed and easy to navigate. Every thing you could want to know about serving your baby nearly any food you can think of is in there. It is truly a wealth of information and it was a total lifesaver! Jenny and her team are the kindest and most thoughtful people and the world is a better and safer place for every baby because of their generosity and tireless efforts. I cannot say enough good things about this organization. Big, huge love. And, more importantly, THANK YOU ❤️❤️❤️.Version: 1.8.5
App Problem Fixed! The app is working again for me, per developer suggestion for fix. Thank you!! Loved using this with my first and excited to use it again with my second. SEE INITIAL ISSUE BELOW. I used the free version of this with my first child, but now that I have tried to use this with my second child, the app doesn’t work. It shows the sign up and log in button options, as well as a continue as guest option…but when I click on any of those, nothing happens. I am able to scroll through the opening pics highlighting features, but I’m not able to “get into” the app like I could before. I’m really disappointed! I’d love to change my rating if/when this gets resolved..Version: 2.3.0
Daily userI am so thankful to have come across Solid Starts (referred by a friend). I’m not kidding when I say I open this app and use it EVERY DAY. From checking safe ways to prepare foods, to recipes, to searching groups of new foods to try that are high in protein or fiber, I feel like the app is my food bible. My little one is adventurous when it comes to eating and the app has been amazing to get our whole family to try new foods and flavors that I never would have gone for. The videos of different ages eating have also helped my anxiety with introducing solids. I feel so much more prepared and know what to expect. Not to mention so much truly FREE content. The Solid Starts team are full of superheroes. I cannot thank them enough ❤️.Version: 2.1.3
Love this app, just a few little things to work on!As someone who feels the need to research before trying solids, it’s great to have an app that has all the nutrition info, choking hazards, prep info all in one place! One criticism is that I can’t see the other meal options when working on introducing an allergen. It would be nice to keep working on other meal options while also working on an allergen series. Another glitch — when in the finned fish allergen series, every day I marked off added 6 fish types under “done” category; the app assumes you introduced 6 types of fish every day instead of giving you the opportunity to input which fish exactly. Basically, great app, just a few little kinks to work out!.Version: 3.2.1
The best resource when starting solidsIf you don’t already follow them on Instagram and visit their website. They have so many wonderful posts about how to introduce different foods to your baby. When you begin your baby’s journey with solids it is terrifying you don’t know what they can eat, how much they can eat, how to make a food for them, how to serve that food safely. Well! Let me tell you Solid Starts has it all for you and explains how to change the food idea being served to meet your child’s developmental skills. I have learned so much and feel so much more confident feeding my baby. Do your self a favor and download this application. You will be so much more confident going through your babies solids journey..Version: 1.2
I love SS but the app needs workSolid Starts is the absolute best for baby- led weaning. There is no other account I followed to get our baby started with solids However - the app needs a lot of work. After days of crashing, I deleted and re-downloaded the app, and after logging into my profile, all my data was gone. We were so close to 1 yr/ 100 foods. PLEASE make have the data live with the profile and not the app. As a subscriber, I should be able to log in on the app or my computer and see our data. So disappointing we lost all the information right before our big milestone. The searching algorithm could use some work too. Would suggest also that logging food not in the app should be counted per item, not lumped into one to be more accurate..Version: 1.9.3
Love the organization, don’t love the appI follow solidstarts on instagram, and I learn so much about BLW, how to safely cut food for different ages. I love the pictures and write ups. I have a few gripes about the app. 1- It logs me out often 2- The search feature is really weird? I literally typed “bla” to searcb for blackberry and the top results were Milk (cow), Honey, Rice, Peanut Butter, Butter. I don’t even eat 3/5 of those and none of them start with bla. I always have to type the whole thing, which is fine, but counter intuitive to every search feature out there. I also wish I could filter searches or my app to only include certain dietary preferences. We don’t eat animal products so it would be nice to exclude all non-vegan items. I’m sure people who follow kosher etc might also like that..Version: 1.8.5
Love this app!First time mom and my baby has a dairy allergy. I love being able to not just track foods but easily see how to best serve them. (The interface is so user friendly.) Takes the pressure off having to prepare before every meal and sometimes spontaneous things happen. It gives me peace of mind when my husband/sister will ask if kiddo can have whatever food and I can quickly see if it’s safe at her age and how to serve it. I highly recommend the courses from solid starts as well. Knowing gagging is normal and not the same as choking and how they coach spitting has made meal time better for us both. Can’t recommend everything Solid Starts does enough!!! Truly incredible resources..Version: 1.8.5
This App is amazing!I couldn’t believe how great this app is! The videos helped visualize how to serve the specific food. It’s making baby-led weaning so much easier!!! Thank you thank you!.Version: 1.5.6
Beyond HelpfulThis app is beyond helpful and helped reduce the stress of feeding and introducing new foots to my baby. Most have images and if not detailed descriptions of how to introduce each food at each stage. I was recommend this app from a paediatric dietitian. I used it often and I highly recommend it to all the new moms I know. Must download! Thank you to the creators and everyone at Solid Starts! You have no idea how much this helped us..Version: 3.4.2

Game changerAbsolutely made the process of BLW my children stress-free for me. The food database is so comprehensive. I love how they show how to serve the food to your child at the stage they are in which helped relieve my anxieties on choking hazards. Just started BLW with my second child. Hope it stays free forever. I am forever grateful for this resource..Version: 3.0.0
