Duolingo: Language Lessons Customer Service

So most importantly if you have a child who doesn't want to study or has disabilities, obviously it's not guaranteed to work but my kid does it and i haven't had to ask a single time, she does it probably at least and hour a day, playing chess, learning Spanish and math, all things i thought were fantasy, anyways you get the point. As for me, that's why the title is because I am wondering how far it can get you off pure studying nonstop, eventually it's better to have someone fluent to speak to in order to improve but learning words, sentences and writing, yes, keep in mind i'm putting in hours of work, but Russian I needed to improve, that's going very well. I also wanted to see how it would do with languages I had little to no experience in. So rather than explain tiny details, I think the fact that I can read and write some Japanese and haven't even gotten far but I mean, Japanese is completely different when it comes to writing, and I had no experience, but I wanted to see if I could read It if I wrote some stuff down can I read it in a while. It didn't look like nonsense to me, I could read and understand some of it. I recommend doing lessons longer getting a pen and paper and write down every single sentence to practice writing and grammar. Again, no clue if this'll be for everyone and you have to put in the work, don't expect improvement not taking it seriously. Duolingo, this time has certainly outdone itself. Not only has Duolingo remained a free language learning app for all, but this time Duolingo has taken all of us back to basics to learn a language fluently! In my opinion, just like how we learned our first language through being thrown right into the mix Duolingo has done just that without the rules and guidelines I honestly can say I feel more comfortable now learning the language that I have before and this time I have started my whole entire profile over just to check and test myself as far as my memory reading and comprehension and speaking of Spanish! Throwing us right into the mix has been the best decision ever made to learn a language because now it’s up to the User either sync or swim it’s up to us to adapt and I think learning languages is one of the best things that we can do not only to be well-rounded, but also enable us to have more friends and be able to go on other places with ease. However, one suggestion that I would have is that maybe Duolingo with setting it up so that you could FaceTime on the app with people who speak the same language that you’re studying to give them more authentic feel and to become comfortable with speaking language or allow users of a given language to FaceTime a native speaker to test, reading comprehension and understanding and fluency of a language all in all they’ve done a great job and I am proud to be a part of the Duolingo family in 2026 ~Cedric

I wanted to download Duolingo because I am going to fly to Paris France soon, and of course I needed to learn some French to go there. so when I first downloaded it, I thought I would go straight away to French, but no they want to take interest of why you are learning the language. which is a feature that I really like, including the fact, you have a choice to take a quiz when you first download it and start learning your language. like for example they will ask you if you would like to start from the beginning or if you want to take quiz to see how much you know and get as far as you can. obviously, I just wanted to learn French because I was going to fly there and so I pressed start from the beginning. they also make the learning fun! They find cool ways to teach you things. Like for example I was having so much fun on Duolingo. I spent 15 minutes on there when I chose only five minutes a day. including the fact, I didn’t know that I knew all these French words for example I was just doing a lesson on Duolingo and these questions got popping up and I kept easily answering them not even knowing that I knew those words. that’s how Duolingo shows you that you made progress. I also like how there are different characters with different voices so you can understand other peoples voices and way of speaking and not just one person’s voice on Duolingo. now I am super pumped to go to Paris!! 😀😃😄😁😆🥹😅😂🤣🥲☺️😊😇🙂🙃😉😌😍🥰😘😗😙😚😋😛😝😜🤪🤓😎🤩🥳🙂‍↕️😏🙂‍↔️🤭🤗🥴

Given that I am I a fluent English speaker and only speak one language, I wanted to use an app that was free and helpful for learning to speak and understand another language. Duolingo is a popular choice among language learners so I decided to give it a try. I used the app for about a month before deleting it. Learning to speak the language with this app is not only hard, but also ineffective in helping me understand the language. For example, I was learning hangeul and I was supposed to listen to a voice saying the word and click on the answer that correlates with that word. Except when I clicked on the answer that sounded like that word, I was wrong. How was I supposed to know which answer was right when they all sounded the same? Not to mention, the robot voice is really unhelpful when trying to pronounce the words. I can barely hear the distinct sound of the word. Another thing, when I was first learning, I was bombarded by words I never even learned and duolingo wanted me to identify what the words were. I’ve never even seen the word in my life and it expected me to know what it sounded like and looked like? Ridiculous. Also, I never received lessons on how to identify the difference between two words that look almost alike. They just left it up to me to figure it out myself. All in all, I won’t ever be choosing to use this app to learn a language. I even tried Spanish! Still didn’t learn anything useful or complete my goal of learning and speaking a language.

This is a great app. I am trying out Max in German, and it would really help if the app gave suggestions on how to respond if you need it. Sometimes I forget how to start or end the sentence, forget a noun I want to use and could use a reminder, and sometimes it throws a verb at you that you didn’t learn yet. Example: Lily asked me where I was (I think, not even sure) and I ended up using the beginning part of her sentence and a word for dogs at the end of my sentence because it was the only word I could think of at the moment. Lily thankfully didn’t chastise me for my misunderstanding, but switched to asking me if I like dogs. I didn’t learn the verb for like yet, so I was completely lost on what she was saying. I didn’t know until I read the explanation at the end of the call (which was very helpful, btw). On the next call, she remembered that conversation and expanded on it so I was able to practice the using the verb “like” in my responses now that I knew what she was saying. At any rate, the video call could be improved by making some explanation/hint available if you need it. I don’t want it up front because that doesn’t help with ability to recall the info on your own. I also love that the widget feature gently reminds you every day with a little owl humor to practice and that has been EXTREMELY helpful for me when I have so many other notifications on my phone. Overall, this is a wonderful learning tool for a new language.

This app has been amazing, but I do recommend taking notes for when test taking on when you wanna move on faster. It is a great language learning app. I learned so much from it and you can take different courses. I love the new math one and there’s a other app for like gram and like spelling there’s also like math chest and music. This app is insanely good. I do recommend for any language learners math learners or just anything or if you want to get better at a home language. I use this app for about over a year. And it’s been amazing. I’ve learned so much from one of my teachers who lived in Japan used this app and she said it was amazing. She learned so much, and she was able to speak more Japanese and actually communicate with the people there I highly recommend it for language learners and just really anything else. This app is so good. Please try it like you will not regret it. The ads are the annoying part, but there is a skip button. I do recommend like super Duolingo or the family trial at like five people I’ve never experienced bugs either glitches or lags. Another annoying part is your streak. If you miss your streak, you have to pay gems or buy gems. If you don’t have enough to save your streak or your streak restart so I do recommend doing your lesson every day and those cute like a little widgets but when you do your lesson and stuff and I absolutely love this place including the app like I recommended 100% you really need to try this if you’re learning anything

I have used this app over ten years to help me learn Spanish. I have also expanded, recently, to include chess. I have not achieved fluency but I am slowly developing an ear for the language spoken at a variety of speeds and in a variety of voices. Gaming is a useful motivator at some stages of learning and for various users. I prefer to go slowly and listen until I can begin to hear an exercise as I might listen in a live conversation. It is adaptable to many motivations and learning styles. It is a very well thought out teaching and learning program. There are obviously some good professional language educators involved. I have been very impressed and I cannot think of a better way to start my day than a quick Spanish lesson. But then I am sucked in. If you are over 70 and would like to find a stimulating mental activity that not only provides a good exercise, but it also helps you to become able to communicate with your neighbors. Fluency? I’m not sure what it means but I do know that I am less overwhelmed by conversations in Spanish and I find that most native speakers are more than willing to slow down and be helpful . Now chess is another bonus. I have always wanted to be able to join my grandchildren in a game. Chess exercises deserve a few more points if I am to invest more of my Duolingo time. I’ve only been at it about a week but I will soon achieve what I think will be true fluency in chess. I decided only a few years back to begin paying. I’m glad I did.

If you want to learn a new language, get better at math learn how to play music in chess. This is your app. Duolingo is amazing. I’m learning Italian right now and it’s so fun. I love all the topics and everything. I love how when you make a mistake at the end of the lesson you can go back and correct also even if you don’t have super Duolingo or Max, you could still do like a bunch of lessons every day and sometimes you can even earn super Duolingo you have unlimited energy. I love all the podcast, listening, speaking challenges. I did math also in Duolingo for a little bit and it was perfect. I was learning so much. I also tried music for a little bit. It was fun. It turned my iPad into a piano and you learn how to play songs and yeah, I have no idea how to play chess but I’m sure that Duolingo will teach you the right way and if you have super Duolingo, you get unlimited, unlimited energy, which is amazing because I love just doing a bunch of lessons and if you have max, you can talk to Lily on a video call and so when you go out, it will give you some better or more confidence when speaking to people also you can learn more language than just one and even if you don’t have super or max, I know there’s ads sometimes those annoy people but sometimes I enjoy the ads and the ads are not that long and you could skip like towards the end of the ad so no matter what you have or do you have Duolingo Duolingo will make you learn it and be good at

There’s nothing to criticize about this app. Like, even Karens (who would want to speak to every manager in the world) can’t complain to the manager of this app about any feature. It’s free, it’s fun, it’s cool, and it congratulates you for getting a question right. First, you have daily streaks. All you have to do is do a 5-minute lesson in a span of 24 hours every day, then your streak will reach one week, than one month, then eventually, one year. Also streak freezes exist; if you forget to do your daily Duolingo lesson, and you have a streak freeze equipped, then the daily streak won’t reset to zero. Instead, it stays the same until you come back again to do your lesson. Then, you have Super Duolingo, which brings features like: infinite hearts, you don’t have to pay gems to do legendary levels, and even a new app icon. You can actually get free super Duolingo for three days when your daily streak reaches a multiple of 25 (I think). There’s even MORE; different character voices for questions brings diversity. The animations are kid-friendly and are also pretty diverse as well. When you complete a lesson, it gives you the time you took, the amount of XP you got, and the percentage of right to wrong answers. Overall, I his app is great and if anyone wants to learn a language, than this app should probably be the first choice. Wait, there are even more apps. Well, apparently, there is a math app, and an alphabet-learning app for kids to practice with. News came out of the orange.

My mother is from Russia but moved to America. She always wanted to tech me and my brother Russian but her or the teachers weren’t enough. I know it’s easier to learn another language when you’re a little but I didn’t get that opportunity neither did my brother. So when I heard about this app from a friend I thought what the heck might as well. And it shocked me how good this was. Although the price is expensive for plus part it’s definitely worth buying or if you don’t want to spend money on an app you can very much get along with us without it. Yes there are some restrictions if you don’t have it but as far as I know as I just started only a few days ago there’s a girl there seems to be no restrictions that could drastically decrease your learning. Although it is extremely helpful that I do have a mother who can help me with Russian this app has taught me more and then all of my teachers combined. And I’ve only had this for less than a week, and I’ve been the lessons that in range from months to years. I highly recommend this app and you should also learn his friends just saying. I only really have a few complaints. They should have different thing for female men or children (some languages have more feminine or masculine words that would be weird if a person of a different gender said it) and definitely more interactive things, and by interactive I mean teach us how to pronounce it just maybe explaining social rules of speaking because maybe some other languages have different grammar.

Please read this!!! duolingo has helped me learn french in a format that feels like a game. it helps me with pronunciation and grammar. i also like that it tells you how long your streak is, because not breaking my streak is very good motivation to do a lesson. it also makes me feel like i have made a lot of progress. i find myself understanding french a lot better and i feel smarter. also, duolingo just launched a music and math course which is super fun and also very educational. i already play an instrument and can read music, but music duolingo really could help newer musicians. i freaking love the music course. it’s so addicting 💀. anyway, another thing i really like about duolingo is the variety of courses you can take. it gives me an opportunity to learn so many languages. you can also take languages from other languages. for example, sometimes i do my french lessons from spanish instead of english to strengthen both my french and spanish skills. but there is one bad thing… this was like a year or two ago, but i took the two week free trial for super duolingo, and it wouldn’t let me cancel, it forced me to pay for it. this also happened for my friend. NOT COOL, DUOLINGO! but overall it’s pretty good. in conclusion, duolingo is a really good app for learning, and it is really fun! if you are debating whether or not to get it, this is your sign to get it! have a nice day!! 😁😁 oh btw, i actually give it a four and a half not a five lol. four and a half isn’t an option

Duolingo is still a really good app to learn any language. I’m doing really well learning my language but sometimes they’re wrong like the symbols and everything. I’m not sure if this is in every language I’m only taking Japanese but the symbols are wrong. It’s telling me my answer is wrong every time I do the same question every day and it’s always wrong, there’s supposed to be this other thing I was supposed to, but that wasn’t an option to choose. That’s why I can’t do Duolingo lesson anymore and I only have a streak it is just so hard to use this app when they are like a lot of issues that are keeping me from moving onto the next level every time it’s the same questions over and over and over again sometimes there isn’t even an option and they’re saying the audio wrong. I just can’t get my legal straight back because of all these issues so if you could please see this review and fix it that would be super nice because I actually still want to learn Duolingo learn Japanese music and maybe math learning a different language would be good for one of my classes in school so I’m really hoping that you guys can fix this, but still if some other readers reading this lead this to the support team that’s gonna fix this, but if you are just the person who wants to download this app download it not really big but they’re stopping me from moving onto the next level so you should still download the app though download

So I got duo for over 400 days and I HAVE TO KEEP MY STREAK but it’s so easy to understand the program and there is so much too learn like I have been learning Korean for like 2 days and I already know how to say hi and jucie and cake and coffee it’s just amazing you can learn 2 or 3 lessons that just take 3 or 2 mins of your time then suddenly you learn ten or 12 words it’s like magic you can learn math and music even chess also when I wanted to learn Japanese let me tell you 1 lesson in and I already knew how to say water SUPER GOODly you can also be lazy and learn the language you can fluently speak and keep your streak when your adding a knew course/language they ask u how good your at it and it could also recommend you a start the program is so easy to understand it’s wow when I started I was like ok I will just try it boom it’s been 400 days and it gives you little quest to help a character so you can do more lessons but the characters to me are more than npc there wayyy more than that they have diffrent personalities like Lily she is a Emo girl and barely smiles she also is friends with zira wich is the complete opposite she smiles (a lot) and is a fun playfulness girl she is amazing and they reward you with gems if you complete your milestone and you can set for a new milestones with with extra gems you get from them if I get to 475 days I think it said I was getting 365 gems but this app is so amazing if I talked about more my hands would hurt from typing so ya goodbye

This app is great for kids and all because it a good, strong, sturdy, base people can actually can learn off of from not like other apps that just tell you want they are telling you like a translator. But, the updates are bad for little kids, especially the adds! They show people creeping on other people in the toilets. Also, there is this one add that is creepy and a notification saying like don’t make duo or one other boy character find you, like that is really creepy and when their parents look at that they’ll probably say what is my kid playing let me delete this right now. That is bad for business too! You should make the updates better and appropriate for little kids and there are some adults that use this app, so for the adults too! Please do this! It would be good for business and good for the people. Once you do this, I’ll give you guys a 5 star. I also forgot to add one part. The batterie part is really useless because I can’t get through one lesson without it asking that you ran out of battery and that you have to pay 600 gems just to get 25! Like what the heck. It also does not persuade the learner in anyway like you want us to learn more than one lesson a day so just give us the Hearts back, please! And super does not give you anything like it just saying that you can’t skip reviewing it! It doesn’t teach you anything if it does that. But the video call one is pretty cool. Like I said, if you get these problems fixed I’ll rate you a 5 star.

Duolingo is a great and helpful app for everyone and every age, of someone who has absolutely no knowledge on a language and wants to learn. I have been using this app for 3 years and I love it! And I have made a part of my daily routine ❤️Right now I’m taking Spanish lessons and it’s super helpful and somewhat user friendly. Recently unfortunately I have realized 3 bugs and annoying little problems I would like to address, 1st: sometimes I make a mistake in my writing and sometimes it will make me lose all my hearts because I got one letter wrong in a whole sentence, and that’s really disruptive in my learning, I understand they are trying to teach me the proper way but sometimes they tell me that I have a typo and let it slide. 2nd: lately in the last couple days, after I get a question correct the screen freezes and won’t let me continue to the next lesson and I have to start over the whole lesson. On the screen it lets me report a problem and I have many times and no change. I have not been able to use that app which makes me sad that I cannot complete a lesson…no hate to Duolingo! This is a big bug that I really think it needs to be fixed. And if you don’t do Duolingo for a little bit they send very weird messages. I don’t know if this was for humor or something but my friend couldn’t play duo for a few weeks and they sent her a threating message saying: I know where you live which is very creepy and made her feel uncomfortable so she deleted the app. 🦉✨💚

Though sometimes it doesn’t have the most direct (perfect) translations, I can tell the deduction the people working there do for our education; at first it was just my mom making me do it so I can learn Spanish, and I found it kinda boring, and never thought I would actually like it, but not too long after, I started to do Japanese on there (for reasons), that’s when it got really interesting for me; and I found it something I wanted to do, and I’m glad that it helped me realize my passion for it! All I can say is, ありがとうぐざいますDuolingo! [Though I get why people are mad at the new update, I was pretty mad about it too, and I barely do the main lessons anymore; I just usually do the practice now! (Plus the “learn hiragana/katakana” sometimes)(Not to mention that I’ve been stressed out about being top few of my league, and not learning that much)Though I will try not to let that stop me, I’ll try to find a way to learn it even if it feels almost impossible with the new update!] [I still give it a five star rating, and I get they’re trying to make more money off of this, which I guess is alright, since they try to make learning languages free, but they have to make a profit too since making this app is no easy task; though making it harder to learn a language just so the people on the app buy, the “super”update, and gems…not the best take, but other then that, I truly respect it!] Anyways update here!: I now have been going more into the regular lessons too, and I’m way more used to the update too!

There are many great things about Duolingo; like the content, graphics, language learning, the learning of math and music, duo super and max, characters, and more!There are things that I wish that would change. Number 1 homophones; when typing I find it hard to type different words spelling to the same sounds. Earlier when doing Duolingo they gave me a homophone, which knowing me I typed the wrong spelling, but typed another spelling of that word (which I can not remember or look at because of screen time). Just like me there are other people out there who have the same problem as me. Number 2 notifications; you’ve may have seen this problem before, but it’s true. I get constant notifications on when I should do Duolingo. It gets stressful having to know you have to do it, unless you have freeze streaks. So then I have to try and fit Duolingo on my schedule so I don’t lose my streak. Number 3 absents; sometimes I don’t have time to do Duo so I have to use freeze streaks, which to ME are hard to get. Some people are busy and have screen time like me, so it’s hard to be absent from Duolingo for a range of 2 days. Why not just let that person use how ever many freeze streaks they have whenever and not only for 2 days. All I am saying is please stretch the amount of days we can be absent. Also might I suggest a “report an issue” for stories to. That’s all I have to type about so far on Duolingo, so please take some time and read this review. Thank you

I’ve been using Duolingo daily for 8 months and have gone from having no knowledge to being able to being pretty good at Reading and ok at listening. My speaking the languages is a little jilted because I have to translate it first in my mind. Overall, I am pretty happy with my progress. The app makes it a bit like a game where you collect points for each lesson completed and you compete on points with other people in your league. Top 5 advance and the bottom 5 drop to a lower league. For a while, the competition really got me to do more lessons and learn more so kudos for that motivation. But once you get to a high enough league, it almost feels like your you have to do 5 times as much as you want to just to stay in the same league. After awhile you find out what pace works for you and you ignore the competition so you can learn at your own pace. There are a few drawbacks. The unpaid version has limits and they will try to get you to upgrade. I did but I feel like I’m learning more. However, I wish they would provide more helpful “lessons” around the rules of the language. You’re stuck having to learn them after seeing something a dozen or so times and seeing a pattern. This is yet another upgrade. But searching on the internet will help explain the rules a bit. The app could do a better job with teaching the various verb conjugations. You pretty much have to figure them out on your own. Overall, though, I’m pretty happy with how much I’ve learned.

So I’m in 8th grade and I’m learning French. Next year in high school I’m actually able to take classes for it. I downloaded Duolingo so I could have some knowledge on the subject. This app has been great at teaching me it so far! It’s super easy when you do lessons or practice lessons. When you are confused you can tap on what your confused on and it will give you the word in English. French it pretty easy to learn since it uses all the English alphabet. The other thing I wish Duolingo had was lessons on how to say something. I’m doing great putting sentences in English and French, and I can understand conversations because of Duolingo! But the way I say things doesn’t sound fluent at all. By no means am I fluent in French but I would like to be able to have conversations with someone who speaks French. Other than that this app as been God sent because it’s made leading French like a charm! I’ve only been using the app for a week but I feel like my progression on the app is way better than learning it in real time. It’s just you learning. You don’t have to worry about other people leading what language your learning. But if you want to invite a friend to join you, you can. This app is just overall wonderful. You don’t have to pay for anything to learn.(unless you buy plus) So do I recommend this to anyone learning a language. Yes 100%. It doesn’t matter if your already taking classes for the language of choice. It will keep you consistent with it. Download it! I promise you won’t regret it.

I have been using Duolingo consistently and quite intensely since January this year. I appreciate your work and it really works well. I recommend the app to anyone who wants to learn languages, but find it daunting. I’m a true fan. HOWEVER, at this point, I don’t like how the system is prompting me to do new lessons (like Daily Quests). I want Duolingo to have more options for reviewing and applying what I have learned so far, so I can have a stronger foundation before moving onto new knowledge. (I’m a paying customer. And I don’t like the AI video call.) I would like each unit to have more comprehensive summary of grammatical structures, rather than just 6 phrases that don’t even cover everything you learn in the unit. I find the app gives me confidence and familiarity when I have to speak to Koreans, but it still lacks clear structure for me to communicate fluently. My mind is filled with random phrases. I don’t know how to conjugate different verb tenses or the character that connects them. I know there must be a pattern, but there is no clear format for me to follow and apply so I can use them freely. It is important to practice intuitively and get familiarize with a language that Duolingo seems to be doing well, but it is EQUALLY important to have a clear sense of the grammatical structure. It should be included in the summary of each unit. After all, this is a learning app for adults, not young kids. We learn differently.

Disclaimer: don’t take this review, literally Duolingo is fine. I guess back in the old days it used to be extremely popular with the whole you learning a new language, however one thing that’s stick was how straightforward it was, but not in a good way you see the app gives you words how to speak however it’s disabled if the person is completely new to the language as some words may be entirely confusing if you’re struggling with this, I would recommend writing this on a notebook like something that I do is, I make a separate notebook for the language just in case I have free time to study oh and don’t even get me started on the whole battery life thing I remember when it used to be hearts now it’s this whole battery thing and if you don’t know what it is, I’ll give you a quick rundown you can have a maximum of 25 battery life and it will usually take a person doing a perfect lesson at least 12 to 13 battery life to complete a lesson that means you could do about two lessons a day this is very disabling since it makes the ads even more another reason why people don’t really like the app is because that instead of using ad for other companies, they’ll create their own ads advertising their own products which sounds smart at first extremely repetitive telling you to get “super Duolingo” or “super family plan” so in conclusion, the app is OK not the best and if you wanna learn a language there, I’d recommend knowing some of the basics

Duolingo is the most engaging app that my students use for language learning. The app takes the learning outside of the classroom and allows the students to work at their own pace and on their own time. The app focuses on communication in the target language and allows the students to listen to the language as well as to practice speaking the language. The app is engaging for the students as they love to compare their progress to their classmates. The activities are presented in different formats and recycle material that was previously learned as well as mistakes that the students have made. Students compete to continue their daily streaks as well as to show the percentage of their fluency. I appreciate that the app is free so that all of my students can have access to the learning potential provided by the app. The classroom feature is especially attractive as the teacher can check students’ achievement and the amount of time that students are spending working on the app. Teachers are able to assign lessons however the only limitation to assigning activities is that all students must have arrived at that lesson in order to assign it to the class. Many of my students have started working on other languages that are offered by the app, the more obscure the better! The app has encouraged my students to pursue learning languages in a way that is fun yet effective. I recommend this app for all levels of my students and also share its value with their parents.

I like this app a lot. I liked it better with the community interaction because I learned and understood more by reviewing user interactions and conversations with more experienced users. Now there’s no where to go when I don’t understand certain things. I’m left in the dark without explanation by the app. Also, when I’ve addressed issues within the app, no one ever responds. Also, in reviewing privacy tracking policies of my installed apps and how they track across other apps and websites owned by other companies, and collected data linked to my identity, I was astonished to see how much tracking this app will do (some of which is acceptable, other of which is most certainly not acceptable): DATA USED TO TRACK ME: purchases, location, contact info, user content, identifiers, usage data, diagnostics, other data (what other data?). DATA LINKED TO ME: purchases, financial info, location, contact info, CONTACTS, user content (??? from where, notes or other apps???), search history, identifiers, usage data, diagnostics. That’s too much collection. I deleted the app and now only use via web browser, hoping for less intrusion. A privacy web browser tab may also reduce the intrusion. Again, I really do enjoy the program and the app is very nice and makes rewards dazzle more, but because of what I stated above I deleted the app and put the web page on my home screen, hoping it is not intrusive or as intrusive and prying into other apps’ data.

Every app usually has a lot of pluses, but they still have their minuses. I really like Duolingo since it is free and is very interactive. Although, there are some things I dislike about the app. First off, there are way too many adds. I know Duolingo is still trying to make money by getting people to buy their merch and subscriptions but it is going too far. Every time I finish a lesson, I get blasted with adds telling me to get Duolingo MAX for a video call. There is also a problem with notifications. Even if I have my notifications off for Duolingo it still tries to get to put them back on and somehow I still get email junk telling me to extend my streak. Currently my Duolingo streak is 228 days long and I feel pressured everyday to keep it going. I love all the cool animations on Duolingo but sometimes instead of feeling like a learning app it becomes to much like a game. I know the point is to make the experience fun and not feel like you are stressed out trying to get answers right but sometimes the screen just hurts my eyes. Another thing is the glitches with the app. Personally I have never had any big problems with Duolingo freezing but many of my friends and family have. The app sometimes glitches and can get your screen stuck. Overall, I love Duolingo and I would recommend the app but there are still things that I am saying should be fixed. I hope that Duolingo listens to what I have to say and takes it into consideration! Thank you so much for providing a free learning source for me and my loved one! - Bee

This app is great. I have been able to learn new languages, chess, and piano! But there are many downsides and I will list 3. The Doulingo app is supposed to help you learn how to speak new languages and not only the words but also in a conversation. Doulingo makes you pay to have you help your conversation skills, which is upsetting to me. This upsets me because you need to know how to communicate in the language you’re speaking in to have a good conversation. Yet it makes you pay to be able to learn it. Then in some lessons it creates a story for you and the speakers are voiced so they speak fluently and fast which can be hard to understand one another and on top of that the story also adds a bunch of words you never learned and has the words you do know too so you have to depict the words you do know to understand the conversation which doesn’t help my learning at all. And then, I got a chance to do a super doulingo for 1 month. It said that it will warn me 3 days before it is over so that if I didn’t want to pay to keep using it, I could cancel the plan. But, it didn’t give me a warning and now everyday I’m getting notifications from Greenlight account saying the the 100 DOLLAR PAYMENT was declined, showing that if the money through my phone had that amount of money, it would have taken it and I wouldn’t be able to get it back due to it doing it without me knowing. These are some downsides which have made me very upset.

Ok, so usually, I get annoyed at EVERY SINGLE LANGUAGE LEARNING APP because when I try to do more then 1 lesson, I have to pay something excessive like $50-80 a month. They also force you to buy the most expensive things like “Bad Language Learning App+” for only $1000 a year. Fr those apps are turning into Apple. Next they are gonna make an iPillow for only $5000 a month. Anyways, back to the point. Duolingo doesn’t force you to buy anything. You can complete the entire course for a language for free. You get 5 hearts, if you make a mistake you loose 1. But don’t worry! To get more hearts, guess what you do? No, you don’t buy it. You complete a lesson fit for you to earn 3 hearts! It’s amazing how they don’t force you to buy anything. Yes, you can get Super Duolingo, and Duolingo Max. Those are for people that are 100% focused at learning a new language. They do have benefits though. Super Duolingo (what I have now) gives you unlimited hearts, unlimited free access to Legendary levels, and you can complete lessons that the system knows is perfect for you. Hard, but not to hard. Also, no ads. Duolingo max, however, has all of those benefits and more such as, the Explain my Answer feature, which is pretty straightforward. You can also talk to an AI to give you better ways of learning your language. Oh yea, did I mention that you can learn math and music in the same app? I’ve made my point. This is the best possible free language learning app out there. You can get more features for cheap, to! Ok, bye!

Have been using it for over 90 days and have learned quite a lot of German. Love the layout, the different avenues to learn (sight, sound, and speech), and the many positive improvements. The only problems I have with the program is that it does not work well on the IPad gen 5 with IOS 12. Specifically, 1) It is sporadically slow or silent in speaking the German word when the word is pressed, 2) Ads sometimes hesitate in starting or jump to the end especially when receiving rewards. 3) Lately, when having completed my daily lesson and the treasure chests are played, only one treasure chest gives me a reward even though I have selected a second one and watched the ad. I have laid down my IPad for a bit and come back to find it still locked waiting for the second chest to open. The only way I can continue is to select “No Thanks” and lose whatever contents would have been in the second treasure chest. 4) When doing the oral portion of the lesson, lately it has been hanging up after I speak the German sentence or words, as if it is taking a long time to analyze. It does not matter whether I use a regular or high speed internet connection the problem is the same. 5) Sometimes my health is not fully restored after about a day from taking the lessons. I have given sufficient time for the application to load and stabilize but, that does not correct the issue. Overall it is a great program and would love to give it 5 stars but, with these bugs it detracts from overall fitness of the application.

I’ve been using duolingo for a few years now, and at first I was addicted to learning new languages with it. Rather than being a chore, duo was entertaining and motivating. However, with the recent update there was things I don’t like. Everything costs so many gems now, and you earn maybe 5 or 10 gems at a time on average. That’s just not enough to keep up. The hearts running out used to be bearable because it wouldn’t happen too often and it was easier to earn gems. I dislike the idea of getting punished for making mistakes while learning a language. Of course there will be mistakes, many and many of them. I didn’t used to have hearts at all in the past while I played, so I’d play and learn much more. But the updated version seems a bit sloppy and not as good as the past duo. The way learners would interact and speak while completing stories in the past was much better than the new updated version now where all you do is listen. Overall, duolingo is a good app especially for being free. You will learn the basics of a language for sure if you put in the time. You’ll learn how to structure sentences and how to use grammar and even how to pronounce words and speak. But you (most of you) won’t just become fluent while using duolingo. Buy some text books in Spanish if that’s what you’re learning, some Spanish novels, listen to Spanish music, audio books, and most important: speak to others that can speak Spanish. That’s the best way to learn, the way we all learn a first language.

So for me, being married to a first generation Mexican-American immigrant, I’ve really wanted to learn Spanish from the first time we met many years ago but I just never really pushed myself to do it. I actually have picked up a decent amount just from being around my wife as she speaks to her friends or family members over the years, but that’s just very basic stuff. I finally decided I’d like to put a little effort into this and so I went ahead and installed this app on my phone. I tried Babbel and a couple others a little bit also but for me Duolingo seems to be the best for me. I like the way it teaches the new words by gradually mixing them in over and over in the new lessons, with the previous words you’ve been learning. It doesn’t overwhelm you. Also you can learn on Duolingo for free, if you choose to do so. It does make it a little more difficult of course because you only get 5 hearts per day and every mistake is a heart. So if you use those hearts you can’t practice until the next day but still, for free Spanish lessons that’s not bad. If you don’t make many mistakes you can go on forever. Obviously, if you have the paid subscription this isn’t an issue. Overall I really like the app and I feel like the methods they use in teaching languages works very well. I would absolutely recommend Duolingo to anyone who is wishing to become bilingual or even multilingual! Learning a foreign language as an adult is sooo difficult and anything you can do to make it a little easier, you should do and I feel like Duolingo does just that.

Duolingo is the best language learning app ever! Duolingo is better than some schools in my opinion, because Duolingo tells you what a word means, or teaching it to you, at other schools they just assume that you already know that language. Just one improvement that I would like to say is about Video Call on MAX, can you make the video call look like it's more... Fun! Some things you could is like where you can pick your character. For example, you don't have to call lily, you can call... Oscar, junior, lily again, even your friends, etc. Another thing you can add is two things, first thing: mute, second thing: challenge. That is, where you can challenge the Character/person in the language you're doing. Another thing I'd like is Half screen/watch, that is where you can call and present a lesson that you can work together on, or you do something and they do something at the same time, and you can help them, and they can help you! Second-to-Last thing I would like to say to add is Stickers, with stickers you can put something in that is language related. Last thing I want to be added is to take away "tap to speak" and make a button called "I'm speaking" where the person knows you're speaking and it's not a recording thing. Developers of Duolingo, Thank you for all you have done on Duolingo, please, please, please... can you add what I have said.

As usual, “upgrades” to computer products destroy functionality and make things progressively worse for the user. Latest update now has all lessons in sequence so that the learner has much less flexibility than before. Maybe its better if you are a school teacher trying to control what your students learn but I am nearly 60 and don’t need a nanny. The problems I wish they would have fixed include tiny pictures that I can see on my iPhone and occasional screens that don’t have enough room to see the text you are typing. They have fixed some of the regionalisms and no longer force me to use continental Spanish, for example. One continual annoyance with all academic language instruction is the insistence on “school grammar” instead of how people actually speak and write. Since I learned Spanish in an immersion program, I continually run into grammatical elements not actually used that I have to put in, like the “se” reflexive pronoun. Duolingo puts it in all the time, street Spanish leaves it out unless there is no other reference to the object. Since I still can’t type reliably on virtual keyboards, I rely heavily on voice recognition, which works poorly. Most of my mistakes are due to voice recognition errors and secondly word order. Decent voice recognition would be a real plus for me. In some cases, the voice recognition just pumps out complete absurdities that bear no resemblance to what I said, recently, “darmelo” became “Dave my load”.

It’s really good I mean everyone always saying good things about it which it’s really true. There’s not that many good apps that can teach you a different language and the teaching is really good. Also, it’s fun that I can actually, you know have friends on there and have a profile. And I love that like you can learn multiple languages and you can go as far as you can with the language and you can even learn English if your like Hispanic or from a different country and are visiting the USA. I also just love the people around it just encouraging you the entire way, which is really nice when you think about it because there’s not some actual people who will encourage you to keep learning a different language cause honestly people can be really hard on you when you’re trying to learn a different language like when they already know it and they are just like saying random stuff that you don’t even know and they’re like “what is that?” And then you’re like “I have no idea,” and then when you have no idea, they’re like “you should’ve known that.” But really they never even tell you anything and they just expect you to know it but sometimes that’s not the case and I’m not trying to be mean to any people who are genuinely, actually teaching them anyway enough of my babbling it’s really great and you should really get it and you can play it at any age and it’s really fun. Amazing love it.

So I downloaded Duolingo to learn some Japanese and for the most part I did. I think my highest streak was around like 50 or so. But here’s the scary part. So after having the app for a while, I was getting a little bit annoyed of all of the CONSTANT notifications, so I went to the settings, and I turned off the notifications for Duolingo. After that I pretty much didn’t touch my phone for about 3 or 4 hours, and when I picked up my phone after that, I was shocked, because my phone was FLOODED with these weird notifications from Duolingo. There was about 80 notifications! I read a couple of them, and they were normal mainly asking about my streak, but then there were ones like, “Why’d you turn me off?” Which really freaked me out and made me a little paranoid. I used it for about 2 more weeks but then I lost my streak, and got a little mad and decided to delete it. When I went to delete it, I saw a message that said, “Deleting Duolingo? You can’t hide from Duo…” At this point, I was REALLY freaked out and didn’t want to be near my phone anymore. I don’t know if this was a hacker or some sort of weird troll, but this really freaked me out and I don’t think I’ll ever download it again. I made this 5 stars to let people know about my strange occurrences with this app. If you wanna learn another language, I would suggest this app, for various reasons, but stay safe on here.

I’ve been using the App daily for more than five years studying Spanish for work. It has helped a lot, and is easy to use. It has been updated quite a few times in that period. Lately, I have found more software glitches in the program, which I hope is not a sign of things deteriorating at the company. While I am disappointed that relatively early adopters who signed up by internet and use the app can’t yet upgrade to the AI version, which remains app only, I’ll upgrade as soon as that is available. Good business model. Good App. I find it better than Babble and more accessable than the Foreign Service Institute courses, which I also use. Not enough to really learn the language — you will have to supplement with real conversation, reading, and grammar study, but it is useful and accessible. Three recommendations. 1) Add more repetition practice of common phrases, like the Foreign Service Institute programs use. As a “side” exercise, you could gameify it to earn points. 2) Add more side content or “flags” to understand and remind on grammar concepts. I know, that is not how people naturally learn languages. But, for adult learners, we do just have to memorize some things — like how to conjugate some irregular subjective, or something. 3) Your word practice games are okay, but having the option to save certain words myself that I have trouble remembering and practicing them would be a help.

You know when u first open duo u think it going to be normal like any other language learning app that people throw in the trash cause we talking Duolingo right now. Well my first thought when I opened it up was I’m going to be a super learner and be super lingual but ofc it was going to take time to do that and learn every day with school and stuff in the way but I told my friend about it and I wanted to learn with her and I’m not doing so well but ofc I open it one’s in a while and start learning most of what u want to learn it music math and language for language it’s a lot of choices and u can do more than one bug u recommend u too finish learning the language u start with so u don’t get to carried away, also when I told my friend she said it was dope and she’s been hacking at it she’s amazing at it and I’m still learning but that’s what’s good about it , it will keep reminding u if you forget so u can do it one’s in a while so u can get ur streak on again also it gives u a break from reminders so u don’t have to worry all about it but my total is 5 stars cause it amazing for learning and it’s free I do recommend but not when ur about to leave for a trip and need to learn the language cause it will take time also the social media accounts are really cool and funny cause it’s funny and it shows us previews so overall it’s 5STARS and u need to download it and if u don’t do ur lessons duo will take u away ……. ;D

Unfortunately, Duolingo just asked me for a review after two moments of feeling so frustrated with it! So, that’s why it is getting four stars rather than what I might usually give as 5 starts. During the speaking exercises it keeps showing that I am not saying a word correctly that I know for a fact, I am saying perfectly correctly. Then it marks you as getting that wrong. It’s not a huge deal, because I am still learning, but it is very very frustrating. Then, I just came off of a lesson in Hebrew. The Hebrew course is the most ineffective of all of them. It needs significant improvement and hopefully they will improve it. That said, I have been using Duolingo almost every day for many years at this point. I am a loyal user and I love using it as an anchor in my language studies. It is not sufficient, in my opinion, for a complete language study, but I find it to be a great compliment, helping with getting a little bit of input, familiarity with the new sounds and grammar, new vocabulary, and most of all, a way to have a quick and easy touch point on your language learning journey to build a simple routine around. Consistency in language learning is the key to forward motion and Duolingo is pretty easy to fit in even when life gets in the way. So, in general, I’m a huge fan and loyal user - I just happen to be SUPER frustrated at the moment with those two fairly minor issues. Much gratitude to Duolingo for the service of easy access to so many languages.

Duolingo is one of the best apps I have. You can learn a TON of languages, math, chess, and music! It’s fun to compete in different “leagues” such as bronze, silver, gold, sapphire, emerald, ruby, amethyst, pearl, obsidian, and finally diamond. If you are competitive in you learning it’s perfect. Also you need to have a “streak” going in Duolingo. Basically just do at least one full lesson everyday and that counts as one day. It’s fun to progress in Duolingo and see how far you have gone. There is also a thing called “energy” and so you start out with 25 energy and each question usually counts as “one energy.” But if you get five or ten questions in a row correctly Duolingo grants you a few more energy. If you don’t like the whole energy thing you can upgrade to super Duolingo or Duolingo family plan for only a few bucks! It’s unlimited energy and no adds! You can also get a week of free trial. You can also get Duolingo max which basically it’s the same as super but it adds video call with lily. And basically what that is, is you get to talk to this Duolingo character online and speak the language your learning. And you can also friend family members and friends on your profile to see their Duolingo stats! They can also send a notification to your device in case you forget to do your lesson for the day! That’s all I have to say about Duolingo! So if you don’t have it, I suggest to get it!

Hi, I have been using this app for a while now and I think a proper review is long overdue. Duolingo is a great app in so many ways. I currently am learning French on the duolingo app, I don't have super or max and though both have some amazing qualities that I think would help any serious language learner the free version is great too!! In the free version you don't have access to everything but you have access to everything nessacary. In the free version you can access lessons and those lessons can be basic questions with multiple choice, selective sentence creation and typed answers. You also have some questions that allow you to speak your language into the app and that helps you learn how to speak your language rather then just type it. After getting though a certain number of lessons you start unlocking stories, and even adventure games where you have an objective you need to complete using the language your learning. As you continue to pass lessons and unlock units you earn gems and badges. These accomplishments show up on your profile and when you friend people you earn access to a stream where everyone can congratulate there friends on there accomplishments. You also move up leagues. Currently I'm on the emerald league but as you complete lessons you can move up the ranks. Anyways duolingo is a great app that I absolutely love and would totally recommend to anyone who wants to learn a language. Hey to the creators of duolingo, please change the app icon it is terrifying.

I have been using Duolingo for 255 days, and have been quite pleased. As a tool for learning words and phrases and being constantly refreshed, it is first rate. There are details about the language, like endings for adjectives, which depends on a number of different features, which there is no real explanation about someone either has to go to a grammar workbook or just hope to pick the rules up by context; perhaps some people can do that, but I , who studied German years ago, can’t. Also, it is I think very weak on conversation. But it shouldn’t be a surprise since there’s nobody on the other end to be talking to. HOWEVER news is coming out that there is going to be a change,, and that there will be two rather than one paid levels. The thing is, the main advantage of the paid level is that your session is not closed down for the day after you make a small number of errors. You really can’t learn anything if you’re not allowed to make errors after all. The news that I’m hearing is that the paid level that I am now subscribed to is going to lose the right to make unlimited errors every day. That’s gonna make the whole product, useless to me, because really most learning happens through making errors. So you should keep this in mind when you start this thing out that getting from the free version to a useful version is very likely going to cost even more than it does now.

I downloaded it to brush up on my Spanish, which was decent as it was, but not quite fluent. I enjoy doing my challenges every day, and hitting my goals. I even signed up for Super Duolingo. However, when doing flash card frenzy, I noticed that on the final level (level 13) they do things to screw you over to keep you from beating it. This includes “loading” while the clock is still running, “not hearing you”, and giving you a word that has multiple possible answers, but only accepting the specific answer they’re looking for (example: they ask for the Spanish word for “you”, but don’t accept “tu” because they were seeking “ustedes”, or asking for “well”, but not accepting “entonces” or “pues” bc they were looking for “bien”, or asking for “watch” and not accepting any of the conjugations or “mirar” bc they were seeking “reloj”.. this could be fixed by either including a picture or a hint,e.g. the first letter or even the amount of letters, but I feel like they do it so you’ll buy gems. I doubt they’ll get take these notes bc they probably don’t read these and/or they’d rather just take your money, and the one thing I use gems on is a timer boost, which costs a ridiculous 450 gems per minute (average chest holds ~4), and they don’t allow smaller increments of time to be bought, even if you only needed another 5 seconds. I feel like they’re trying to bamboozle me, which makes me not want to use it anymore.

Duolingo is very helpful to start a new language. It’s gamification makes learning more fun and makes me want to do my Duolingo every day. Streaks are also something I love and makes me want to get long streaks. Currently I have over a 600 day streak and have finished one course which is Arabic. One thing about some of the courses is that they don’t have much of a course. Some are short and some are way longer. Arabic was a decent course, but it wasn’t as long as French which I’m doing now. I’d recommend the Super plan, and if you have others in your family who can do Duolingo, you can get the Family Plan. The free version is good, but you have a limited amount of mistakes and if you run out of lives, you have to pay or wait. With the Super Plan, there are unlimited hearts. Super also has a practice area to help with revision. But that’s just some of what Super can do. You can probably find all the benefits on a Duolingo page online. The French course I’ve been taking has also helped with French class at school, and vice versa. Duolingo also has a thing called Leagues. Leagues are good in the beginning as a healthy competition, but higher up, it makes people do all the easy lessons, which doesn’t help with learning. So if you want you can turn Leagues off in the setting tab. Overall, I’d highly recommend this app to get and the Super plan too.

Look, for the people out there who want to get doulingo here are some things you might want to know. When you play it You usually start with five hearts, but then if you get a question wrong on the game or whatever you’re doing it says you lose your hearts and when all your hearts for an hour, then it says you can’t do any more Duolingo for like a whole day and you have to wait till the next day and then you can doMore Duolingo. But I also like to do a lingo because there’s this thing called like I don’t know but it’s called like the leagues and if you get in the league so it’s a bunch of different ones right now I am in the Goulding and it’s really fun to get into all the weeks because you start in the bronze league when you go to the silver and then you go to the gold and then from there on I guess but I really like Duolingo because it’s really fun app and it teaches you languages and math and music. My personal favorite is actually the music but Duolingo is So fun but I have one more issue is that when you have to pay to be a special Durango person is called stupid really go to like have no ads and unlimited hearts out your heart’s number so you just keep getting cards and I don’t think that’s fair that it makes you do that I think you should just be allowed to have unlimited hearts and no ads because that just doesn’t seem fair like super Duolingo is only for people that wanna pay for me so that’s my only other issue.

Duolingo: Duolingo is so amazing you can learn so many languages learn to play the piano do math learn to play chess it’s amazing. I really wanted a good app so I could learn Spanish my first language is English and my whole family speaks Spanish Because that’s there first language but I was born and raised in the U.S. I got many chances to learn Spanish I tutor as a small child I had people who spoke Spanish around me but it never really clicked too well. I knew a few easy words and small sentences but I wasn’t able to understand a whole conversation let alone be in one. Fast forward too a few weeks ago I saw a family friend on Duolingo I thought that looks fun I asked them about it they let me try it out (iam totally a natural at Italian) and it worked very well! I downloaded it on my iPad too give it a go I found my level and started speaking and understanding Spanish much better then before I also used to play piano as a young kid but I got bored of it and dropped out I started playing it again on Duolingo and used a key bored too play with their songs as well it’s really fun doing it will doulingo and not only that but I really hate math and you know how people who hate math aren’t good at math rather well guess what! Duolingo has math too it’s like a dream come true but wait there is MORE you can also play chess? I now am super addicted to chess and Duolingo is the best thing that ever happened to me besides my daughter Maya of course🫣 Duolingo makes me so Supercalifragilisticoespialidoso!

I love, love, love Duolingo! I do have some ideas to make it even better! For instance, I was thinking that when we get something wrong, instead of taking a heart and telling us the correct version, give us three shots before taking a heart, and have us try to get it right three times before you tell us! That way we learn it better(?)! Another idea is a flash card function that doesn’t require hearts, so that we can practice that way! One thing that I think would be even more helpful, especially for people who are note takers like myself, would be and archive/dictionary thing, that shows us the words we’ve learned, and their translations (obviously), so we can go back to take our notes to study when Duolingo isn’t available! Another idea I have, and I don’t know if this is already in place, I’m not very far in any of my languages yet, is a conversation of sorts. We would have to carry a conversation with an AI in the language we’re learning, so that we really have to exercise our memories! Sorry for rambling, I just had so many ideas for ways to make learning even better, even if you’re like me and not a premium user! Again, I ADORE Duolingo! Hi a grievance: Those fill in the blanks with the choice of words and no English translation. How are we supposed to get those right without context or knowledge of what word we’re supposed to use?! Those either need to be removed or they need to have the English translation so we can get it right by actually knowing and not guessing. Thanks.

Developers have done a great job with creating this app and lesson plans. Learning is made easy and simple. Especially with learning a new language. As an adult, you can tell that the app is centered around keeping the attention of younger children. But…I for one appreciate the games, activities and characters. It gives me the earlier years of school vibes. Which is pretty cool and a refreshing break from the seriousness of being an adult. Plus, you are learning. And…it’s at a pace that doesn’t overwhelm you. Lesson plans are broken down into challenges that only take a few minutes to complete. Trying to keep your streak alive helps with not forgetting or not taking 5 minutes of your busy day to do your daily lesson. I’m currently working on Spanish or Español, math, music and chess. Spanish is completely new to me. The math lessons keep me sharp and refresh skills that I have not used in years. I felt like doing the music and chess lessons would just help with activities that I’m already engaged in. As I play the piano and love a good chess match. I highly recommend this app to anyone who wants to learn. And…I feel as any parent that wants to help their kids improve in language, math, music or critical thinking should introduce their children to this app. You won’t regret it. To the developers of Duolingo. Thank you. Please continue creating such great apps to help people of all ages learn and grow.

I’m learning, but slowly. Just got Duo Max (I had been using the free on-line lessons for a long time). I like it a lot. I do pretty well when I read the Spanish, but listening is torture! It is nearly always so fast I can rarely understand more than a word or two, and sometimes not that. So on the lessons where I have to listen to the radio call-in shows, I mostly just guess about what I’m hearing. If you could slow it way down, or give an opportunity to hear it at a slower speed, that would help. But at the usual speeds, these lessons don’t do anything for me. They are a good idea, but just too fast. I also just started the conversations with Lily. It’s a great idea, but the speed, once again, is way too much for me. It’s hard to respond when I can’t understand what she is saying. My mind just goes completely blank, and no Spanish words will come to mind! I can’t even remember how to ask her to speak slowly! And I know that phrase, if I see it in writing. I understand the goal of these conversations. I just feel totally unprepared to participate. I might do a little better if I at least knew the subject we would discuss, so maybe I could prepare. As I said, I do pretty well when reading (vocabulary permitting), but speaking is extremely challenging. And speaking the language is what I hope to do more of. I will keep at it, but have to say, it feels pretty hopeless right now. I think it would help though, if you could offer a slower version. 😊 . Garcia.

Ok listen, it is good at learning your language, and it really helps, but they really should just give everybody unlimited hearts, so that nobody feels bad when they mess up a ton of times, and now everybody Hass to pay, for the hearts were using their gems or to the practices instead of finishing their courses that’s a Duolingo‘s all about and it says that’s super learners finish. The course is 4.2 times faster and are more likely to but that’s not true because they’re just trying to make you think that now. Yes it’s super good. But one day they’ll have to give everybody unlimited hearts that is not nice to only give people who pay for super Duolingo plus there’s mostly kids who are doing this so please make unlimited hearts. I hate that there’s not unlimited hearts but otherwise this is really good. It is super good and I accidentally hit one and then I started to review it’s probably a three or four but please just make unlimited hearts and I will be so happy also that one man’s voice is super creepy well not creepy my bad but it’s bad when he says yo he says Joe so it gets people like wait there’s no Joe on this so you’re like wait what and then that gets people confused and then they don’t finish the course and they mess up and then the unlimited heard things comes in and then they still don’t have a limited hearts please can you please get unlimited hearts, and make that man’s voice normal thank you. Also, this is a super good thing and please tell more people to do it but get unlimited hearts thank you and goodbye

I love Duolingo. it’s an easy and fun way to learn a new language! I love all the lessons and I find them super helpful. and before learning a new language you get to see your level, to see where to start! it’s not just a way to learn a little language, but also a way to refresh your memory of a language you might have previously learned. I love all the opportunities that get brought to you even if you don’t have super Duolingo, although you do have to watch ads when you have regular Duolingo the ads aren’t super terribly long and I do recommend super Duolingo because I think you get to learn new languages, but in a funner way, it also helps a lot in super Duolingo when you get to have a video call and just talk back-and-forth with Lily I think that really helps a lot. The only complaint I have is when doing a lesson and you are told to spell out something in whatever language you’re learning, for example I am learning Spanish. If you 99% spell the word correct but maybe two letters or even one are wrong, but it’s close enough to the word where you may still understand it from reading it. They count it wrong and if you do not have super Duolingo, you lose a heart and you only have five hearts. If you run out of all your five hearts, you have to watch an ad to get another heart which is obviously fine, but I wish that whoever grades on what you do during your lessons would realize that the word is close enough to what I’m trying to say and I think that they shouldn’t be taking away hearts for that.

Duolingo is a great app for learning a different language either learning for someone or learning a language for a new country but as much as I love duolingo and want to keep my streak going, everytime I use duolingo and try to move on to another lesson which because of this problem i'm still on section 1, unit 1 because whenever I try to do this lesson or even try to move on to a different lesson by jumping towards it, the writing lesson keeps freezing either I press the check or press the X button it just freezes and, I can't adjust anything and, I can't get out to go back to the place where you can pick what lesson to do and, what I do to keep my streak going is to review the questions I've already done and if I do get a writing question when reviewing, I have to restart the app and go back to the lesson and purposely make a mistake on either the two words one, for example, either nước or người and the answer is người, O have to pick nước on purpose so that at the end, instead of the writing question, O have to fix my mistake, but sometimes instead, I pick the right answers slowly and most of the times, the writing question doesn't appear and, I already picked the choice when you finish a level to get harder questions since I already know the answers to the questions so, if anyone knows why this is happening please tell me because I think duolingo is a great app and I really want to continue with my Vietnamese lesson.

The app is good. I’m already at my super Duolingo and I have absolutely no problems for notifications and I’ve never even updated it before so I don’t know what it’s gonna be like also i’m learning Spanish, German, Music but the widgets know most of them are fine, except for three of them, the one that says “don’t let it break!” that’s what it’s starting to threaten me, and then next it says “last chance!” and then the widget changes, and it still mad, and then still says “last chance!” so I can definitely tell that it’s trying to threaten me Oh wait! I forgot that there’s more that bother me for an example like the early widget one it’s staring into my soul with the streaks in both of his eyes also, the one that says “unfreeze your streak” I know it looks normal, but there’s something off about it that bothers me but I’ll find out eventually also, there’s one that said “it’s late!” like seriously what the heck is that widget there’s also one that falling into a Duolingo head like bro is falling in there own head and there’s also one that whenever you finish your lesson the widget will sing and it looks like there say this Duolingo: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and there’s also one that makes it look like Duolingo is having a wedding with someone sometimes it says “time to practice!” and sometimes it says, “Duolingo misses you” there’s also one that was doing it being a school and by the way, the one I was talking about earlier nvm

I have been extremely impressed with the organization and function of the app. I feel as though I am picking up Dutch really quickly in a short amount of time (as someone who has learned another language through school and can compare). The mix of written, spoken, listening and pronunciation work on the app is truly incredible, I never expected the app to be this good.

Awesome app, makes learning a language fun and easy. I wish it had Mandarin.

They drill the language into your head by their unique way of repetition with different variations until it sticks! You get the sense that they spent a lot of effort and paid attention to detail and methodology. Even the ads are polite to the point where you would want to watch their ads! Ads by consent! Well executed. Good job!

I use to LOVE duolingo app for learning Spanish... that is until they turned to a “health system” and you require lives to learn. When learning a new language you are going to make mistakes and if you have to wait a full day to earn lives you will never learn at that rate. I’m on an 80 day strike and up until today I didn’t need lives to learn and I would really learn by completing 20+ lessons in an hour. Now I cannot get through 4 because I’m out of lives!! Please take this option away! Even the version you pay for requires lives!! That’s so ridiculous. I use to recommend this app to anyone who wanted to learn a language and I no longer will be! This app is designed to learn not play. If I wanted to earn lives to play I would play candy crush.

The heart feature added to app version of this platform is awful. 💔💔💔💔

Ok i thought that this was going to help me learn Spanish but it taught me how messed up this app is. you need hearts to learn. And keeps reminding me about the plus thing. Im sorry (not) but this app was a huge disappointment😡

The health bar isn’t a thing on the website, and as such I find the website much more conducive to actually learning. You’re allowed to make mistakes and learn from them as opposed to being punished and shut out. It’s also more forgiving of typos since you don’t lose health — ironic, since it’s easier to make mistakes on a phone’s miniature keyboard than a full-size keyboard. On the website, you don’t have to worry about losing health just because your dumb fat finger accidentally pressed enter before you were finished typing, because you’ll get the chance to try again without losing health. Would have liked to be able to learn on the go, but the app is garbage, so I’ll stick to desktop learning.

If I am trying to learn a language and I get a question wrong, I lose a life and am then restricted from learning the language. How am I supposed to improve if I am restricted from learning the language because I don’t know the language? This system does not help me learn the language and restricts my education.

If your reading this Duolingo is an amazing app and I’ve been playing it for a while now and see that there is a health system preventing me from learning more please fix this problem and I will recommend this once awesome app...

We sit through ads, that we are told is for supporting free learning, and now you make it so much more difficult to learn on this app when you just want us to pay. you charge way too much. some of us have lost our jobs and cannot pay. you’ve taken away perks from the app that were helping me learn. i now have to pay gems to use certain features that were always free for me to use?? why??? i have spent countless hours on this app and watched literally a thousand ads to help support my free learning and apparently that was all for nothing. you are just slapping me in the face and i can no longer even use the timed experience ramp up challenge without buying it?? i am SO unimpressed and so disheartened by this change in the app. it has really killed my desire to practice and learn. and again, i’m months into a streak, practicing for at least 3-4 hours a DAY. you guys are ruthless. it’s so sad. truly sad.

This LANGUAGE LEARNER is pay to win. Why you may ask? Because of the health bar. Once you get 6 or less questions wrong, you’ll have to wait an hour for the health, so you can LEARN. You’d expect Candy Crush to have this, but no, DUOLINGO does. I hate to be the kind of guy that says “back in the old days”, but I’ll have too. In my elementary days, my teacher used Duolingo as a free time tool. It didn’t have the health bar, more customization, and a better interface. Now the app itself is rather nice, but I can’t get past the fact that it’s p2w. I understand you guys work hard, but just accept donations like Wikipedia, or use your ads. You can keep the Duolingo Plus, but take out the health bar. 1/5

The only downfall of the app is that it doesn’t explain why an answer is wrong. For instance, if you use the masculine version of a word but the correct version is feminine, it would notify that your answer is incorrect but wouldn’t provide the correct answer, or an explanation. I find when learning a new language that it’s easiest to remember how to structure sentences and spell words correctly if I understand why.

Disgusting of you guys to fire human translators in favor of AI translations to cut costs. Once my gift sub is up, I’m uninstalling and not giving you guys any of money. Shame on you.

If you put AI first you show that your intentions are solely greed. No one should use this app and it really did not help even when I was trying to learn Spanish with it. Bad app it’s like the Harry Potter of language learning. Overrated and bad. If there was an option lower than 1 star this would deserve that rating.

They laid off their translators so that they could save money using AI to translate. So now you’re learning how to speak a language from a machine, not someone who can speak that language. Worthless app.

The new update is lazy, unintuitive, and frankly just overall worse. You have completely disregarded thousands of loyal users who have been using the platform with no issues by changing it completely to a redundant, quite useless update. We used to be able to focus on multiple lessons at a time, while also being able to go back, review, and practice in areas where we were not confident. The old layout was user friendly, adaptable, and it was quite easy and fun to use. If you got tired of one area of language, you could move on to another and go back to what was frustrating you at a later time without hindering your progress. Now, if you get stuck on something, or don’t want to do a specific exercise at that time. You are forced with either losing your streak or forcing yourself through an activity you have no motivation for. There are also absolutely NO indication of what the next course will be about. Verbs? Transportation? Daily life? Where did the categories go? My grandmother is 77 years old. She has been using Duolingo for around 2-3 years to help teach her different languages. And she has absolutely loved it. Every day for the past 2+ years I have heard her spend countless hours on Duolingo. Lately she’s lucky to spend more than 20 minutes on it before it becomes too boring and tedious for her. How do you expect users to want to continue learning if you have made it nearly impossible? How is it that in this new update you’ve seemed to completely ignore the very people who’ve made your app so widely used? You admit you’re hearing the app for “new users” but what about the old users who are the very reason your app does so well? Maybe you should actually listen to what your users are wanting out of this app instead of being capitalist pigs focused on brining in as many new users and paying subscribers as possible.

It won’t work out if waiting for whole 24 hrs to have full health, learning language is about making mistakes, the heart system is just another level stupidness, used to love it but now no more.

I’m giving this app 1 star and then deleting it, Duolingo your better than this. You shouldn’t be laying off employees to replace them with ai.

Laying off staff and replacing them with AI when your translations are mediocre at best anyway? I'm sure this won't cause any problems whatsoever! I'll be moving to another language learning app that still cares about the human connection involved in learning a new language.

Duolingo used to be amazing, and unite/employ people from all walks on life and language. Now, they replaced everyone with AI and it SHOWS. The grammar is faulty, the sentences don’t make sense, and it will mark a correct answer as incorrect at random. The AI model had ruined the app ethically and functionally.

Let me preface this, by saying I am not a language expert, nor am I some technological wizard who knows the ins and outs of apps and the business behind them. I felt I should give my opinion after learning German for 80 continuos days. The pros: A beautifully designed app, it is probably one of the most aesthetically pleasing apps I have seen on any phone. Likewise, getting into learning can be very addicting with this app, as the gameification of learning can be great for a lot of people. Think of it like using Zwift, but for your brain. Very cool in those regards. The breakdown of the language sections is great too, and not too overwhelming. Cons: My first issue comes with the leadership at DuoLingo. Letting go of 10% of your contractors to replace them with AI learning, is incredibly suspect. It's a trend with a lot of industries now, looking to cut out the human part of learning to save a buck and make more profits. Languages were designed by humans and made for humans, not robots. This action will probably make me go to other learning options. Second; the removal of community aspect of Duolingo. When you used to make a mistake, you could ask the community about the issue, and they would always give you amazing feedback when it comes to sentence structure, slang, etc. This is arguably more important for learning than Duolingos current method, which is just a big red "WRONG" and not explaining WHY something is incorrect. Please bring back community aspects like this. Finally: Speech... learning German has been great, but my problem comes from how fast the speech can be for large sentences. Makes it impossible to get a correct, and clean sentence to solve. The sentences need to be way more clear and precise. Likewise it's either A) fast sentence or B) Excruciatingly Slow replay. Both incredibly painful either way. My suggestion would be to reduce the speech playback by 15-25% to make it sound more clear. All in all, an okay app. However I will probably cancel my subscription when the time comes to do so. Incredibly disappointed in the support of AI to remove contractors for profits. TLDR; Pros: Visually nice, easy to get into, addicting at times. Cons: Ai for Profits, Lack of community Feedback, speech could be better for long sentences.

This app is the best free language learning app at most, it’s heart system where you lose a heart each time you fail a question and then a whole lesson.And the only solution to this problem for us is to buy Duolingo plus to have infinite hearts.This honestly sucks cause you have to pay for it monthly or whatever just to learn a proper language or wait a few hours every day to get one or two hearts.Thanks Duolingo

The update to the path interface has really destroyed the product. I was thinking about upgrading to a subscription before, but now I’m thinking about uninstalling.

A lot of regular users seem annoyed by the new format. I’m over 200 days in a row learning Spanish and loving duolingo but the format change this week was tough to take. Don’t like it at all.

Tl;dr – Great app to learn but only if you pay subscription. As a free user, you can get away with learning the basics before it gets too tiresome with all the ads and waiting for hearts (lives) to restore. Long version: This is my first time using Duo, the lessons are designed beautifully, and the gamification helps add fun to the learning. But, like so many other reviews have mentioned, the heart system and countless ads ruined the free user experience. You can get upto 5 hearts and even a simple mistake such as choosing a different verb form results in loss of a heart. As others have said, this puts the pressure on learner and it becomes more about getting the right answer through the system instead of learning. I don't think you can learn much in the free version, specially when difficulty of lessons increase as you progress in the course. You'll end up giving up instead of waiting for hearts and ads to finish. This is ironic considering that the founders of Duolingo built this app with the idea of free education. It doesn't seem like that's the point anymore.

I’ve been practicing spanish on this app for over half a year now and because of their announcement about terminating over 10% of employees to replace them with AI, it’s time to delete and not look back. The people they’re taking the jobs of have qualifications like linguistics degrees on top of the fact that they are human. Duolingo just pulled a PR stunt with the owl’s “death” to keep their audiences on socials. The AI’s capabilities are very much overestimated since it’s known to confuse words with multiple meanings still. Meanwhile your greedy company wants to use it to TEACH a language from zero. All duolingo has done for me since I installed it was make me review my high school spanish. I’m not gonna lie and say it wasn’t fun, I genuinely enjoyed the little game-like exercises before going to bed but it’s not a good enough reason to keep supporting this app. If anyone reading this feels the same and is thinking of deleting the app, PLEASE delete your account first or they will keep using it to train their AI. I know what they think they’re doing is revolutionary like investing in mobile back in the day but it’s just turning away all of their customers at this point. Duo if you’re reading this, listen to the online discourse since you’re so active on social media.

This app used to be good and insightful when learning but the amount of AI they keep adding in hurts your learning ability so much. Don’t know what you did wrong in a lesson? Well now you get to pay to hear AI tell you! A company that prioritizes profit to the point that it hurts users….

I’m a long time user of Duolingo- 8 years. I’ve seen a number of changes in the app, most of them positive. However, the new learning path is a disaster. For those of us who have been using the app for a long time, the new UI completely negates all of our previous work. I will only continue to use this app if an option to revert back to the previous learning path is offered to users.

I love Duolingo- or at least I used to. The health bar is awful and totally ruins the entire app. I don’t know why they did this and sincerely hope they take it away!

This app is awful. Someone who doesn’t speak French made this lol I went on here to check it out for my boyfriend, it’s hilarious how BAD it is. Almost nothing is correct, don’t waste your time 😂

The old free option gave you five hearts (five opportunities to fail), but now it’s an energy score that depletes whether you’re right or wrong, so it limits you to one lesson per day. It may be good with the paid version, but not worth it for the free version

Firing your contract employees to replace them with artificial intelligence was bad but then trying to cover it up with a publicity stunt is pathetic. The language learning is not that helpful anyway with repetitive and weird lessons. Half the time the speech lessons could not even detect what I was saying. Your best bet for language learning is to talk to another HUMAN person.

This was an amazing app and then they went and changed it for some reason. It was great and fun and I was actually learning but with the new version I am having a much harder time. If it doesn’t switch back, I may have to find another app.

Really bad new update. I thought it wasn’t so bad until I went to my first units I already did and boom there’s words I haven’t even learned yet. Also lost my august challenge progress with the update too. I don’t know if I have to go back so I don’t get screwed over for not understanding words that mysteriously popped up or if I’m just gonna have to give up the app and look for something else. Between how gamified this app is and this massive obstacle, I’m discontinuing my massive streak and looking for another learning app. I feel like everything I worked for was pretty much thrown away and I don’t wanna be working on a n app that decides to put words and lessons I didn’t complete, in my completed path. I loved this app so much! it was a great way to learn a language without any pressure, and it made learning fun too! but then you added the hearts. the WORST thing you could do. please take them off! you’re literally holding people back from learning! punishing them if we get it wrong, OF COURSE WE ARE GOING TO GET THINGS WRONG, we are literally learning a new language ON AN APP. anyways, please take them off! :(

I have been using this app for a while now. The new hearts system sucks. It is just a terrible idea to prevent someone from doing lessons because you ran out of hearts. Take this new feature out please.

It takes 5 HOURS just to refill ONE heart?? Duo lingo says it wants us to learn but all it wants CLEARLY is the money. Duo lingo, u need to fix this. I’m not gonna pay each month just for HEARTS. I have been using this app since February on a daily basis and have really enjoyed learning Spanish. Recently the voices have changed and one of the characters is a child’s voice. It is awful, hard to understand. Please, please, please change it back to clearer voices and remove the Spanish speaking child

Boycotting as I don’t support replacing all your contractors with AI. Hard to practice and learn with the life system anyway so I’m sure there’s better out there

Deleted the app since they fired people for AI

Duolingo recently fired a good portion of their staff and replaced them with AI, while the job of remaining staff seems to only be to check if the AI translations are accurate. I have no doubts that this move will make the app rapidly decline in quality. An AI cannot determine whether sentences sound natural, pick out nuances, or determine whether sentences are useful to learning. Duolingo clearly does not respect either their staff or their customer base if they were willing to make this move.
