The third learning adventure in the Nickelodeon Literacy Suite, Dora ABCs Vol 3: Ready to Read! focuses on your child's early reading and phonics skills. After reviewing letter sounds in Dora ABCs Vol 1: Letter & Letter Sounds, and learning phonemic awareness with Dora ABCs Vol 2: Rhyming Words your child is now ready to read! In Dora ABCs Vol 3: Ready to Read!, your child will begin to see that letters can be organized in a specific sequence to represent words. By changing the beginning, final or middle letters of these words, they can turn one word into another, a game called "word ladders". The ability to manipulate first, last and inside letters of simple words is an important skill to becoming a proficient reader.

In this game, Dora and Boots need your child's help crossing Water Lily Lake to get to the Fantastic Frog Fiesta on the other side. By sounding out words or changing letters of words to make new ones, the player will help Dora and Boots cross the lake by hopping on the lily pads. Supportive directions and sound effects help guide your child in learning how to sound out words and start to read.

In between phonics activities, three whimsical mini games with Dora's frog friends offer additional play: turn lily pads to get the frogs to a flower, match colorful frogs and flowers, or stack all the frogs on a moving lily pad to reach a high flower. All three games are interspersed among the phonics activities.

Dora and Boots can't make it to the Fantastic Frog Fiesta without your child's help! ¡Vámonos! Let's go!

Dora ABCs Vol 3: Reading HD Positive Reviews

App CrashesJust downloaded this for my 5 yr old. We were excited to try this app and had high hopes. The graphics and interface are what you would expect of a Nickelodeon app--good quality. The concept behind the app is basic and similar to Hooked On Phonics, which we've already completed, though not as thorough. I was surprised at how quickly my daughter completed each word in the Dora game. I think that this game will be helpful for children just starting out as an aid or supplement to other phonics programs (do not rely solely on this app), but will not be a challenge for those who've already begun learning the concepts of phonics. It could be great for reinforcement of concepts and lessons for young kids who are not new to phonics. The mini games woven in between the word challenges were fun and exciting, however, the app keeps crashing on us after the frog color match-up segment. Disappointed that it is not functioning properly, but mostly satisfied overall with what I've seen so far. Give it a try..Version: 1.1

Excellent Supplement for Teaching ReadingKey elements in learning how to read are blending (pushing sounds together to form words) segmenting (separating individual sounds from words) and being able to move around sounds in words. Students also need to know what letters stand for what sounds. This app teaches all of that, and just works with the basic 1 letter to 1 sound correspondence (so it doesn't teach "sh" and "ch" for example). The sounds are taught within the context of words and not in isolation which is the best way of learning what sounds the letters stand for. This is one of the best apps in the app store for teaching/reviewing the fundamentals of reading. The games between challenges are interesting and fun and also give children a break while providing motivation to do more. The little one I'm tutoring will spend more time with this app than with the other activities we do. It's worth at least three times the price. I haven't experienced a problem with sound, but the developer has posted a fix in an earlier review..Version: 1.1

Gets boring fast!It is great phonics practice and I appreciate the repetitiveness of the words, but I wish the "fun" part of the app didn't continually repeat. My girls got bored quickly. They should at least change the game up after you make it to the fiesta. There seems to be no incentive to continue playing extra levels, except to make it to the fiesta again in the exact same manner with different words..Version: 1.7

No sound help from nickelodeonWe are working on a fix for the sound issue.. in the meantime NO SOUND? Here’s the fix: You need to make sure you haven’t inadvertently muted your device. If your side switch is set to Lock Rotation, it will not mute and unmute your device. To make sure you haven’t muted the device, this is what you should do: 1. Double click on the HOME button on the bottom of your device. 2. This will bring up the Multi Task Tray (which shows you all your apps that are running in the background). 3. If you swipe your finger to the right, it reveals the Mute Switch (This is how you get to a Mute Switch when you have set your side switch to Lock Rotation). 4. This will show you if your device is muted or not. 5. Just click on it to restore from muted to unmuted..Version: 1.0

Sound Issue FixedHi all I fixed the sound issue. Go to settings, General and go to use side switch to. If lock rotation is checked, then select Mute instead. Flip the side switch and make sure Red is not showing. Then go back to the go to use side switch settings and select the lock rotation option again..Version: 1.0

No settings availableI would rate it higher if it had settings to turn off music and set different difficulty levels, etc....Version: 1.0

AwesomeSince the update i changed my rating because they fixed what was wrong and now this volume is my daughter's favorite. She is almost 4 and is enjoying the switching of the first sounds and also the section where you have to spell out the words. Worth the money..Version: 1.4

SoundI had that problem but then unlocked the side switch and the sound came back. Also under general settings put side switch on lock rotation and not mute..Version: 1.1

Awesome gameI was skeptical to download after reading some reviews that said they did not have sound but I was lucky. My app is awesome and my daughter loves it after playing only once. The sound works and I am glad it did..Version: 1.1

Very entertaining and educational at the same timeMy kids loved this app! Not only do they begin to learn how to read but they also enjoyed the mini games helping the froggies get across the pond. I highly recommend this app..Version: 1.3

CarrieI bought this for my 2 yr. old girl and she loves it. It is already teaching her how to spell a few sight words....well worth the money!.Version: 1.1

Worth itMy daughter dove right in and has been playing and Learning for hours. She's trying to get the iPad back right now..Version: 1.0

Sound works fineFlick the mute switch on the side of your iPad to get the sound working..Version: 1.0

Nice app, but not enough to itMy daughter likes the app, but she conquers it in minutes. Some of her other apps get harder as she learns and had thousands of questions. This only has a few..Version: 1.0

IOS 6 problemWe upgraded to ios6 and the app no longer works please fix.Version: 1.3

It works now!!!!!Take back my previous bad review now that it works. Kids love it!.Version: 1.4
