Easily the best news platform ever createdBetween the UI, endless feed customization options, succinct overviews and political leaning scale, this app is exactly what I said in the title. I highly recommend spending the time and really fine tuning your content preferences. I took about 20 minutes deep diving into the hundreds, if not thousands, of options. Now, my feed gives me the latest on everything I wanna know about. To the developers, one thing I’d like to see that would really take this app to the next level is the author/outlet following feature. To follow them, I have to search specifically for them, click follow and then I don’t know where it goes from there. I’d like to see a “Following” page of sorts that only includes news from the people/outlets I follow. Maybe this page could serve a dual purpose between following and explore (where I could see recommendations of authors/outlets to follow based on those I already do). I think the page could live on the bottom navigation. Once there, I’d like to swipe side to side between following and explore. Just a thought. My go to news appI’m shockingly impressed by Particle. On my use of it I loved the layout and ease of use. Over the last month it’s moved from a buried folder to my Home Screen and has become my go to news app, despite being a subscriber to Apple News. I enjoy that the user can apportion the preferred amount of subject matter and that the app lets you train and refine what it feeds you in stories. I’ve noticed lately that it’s skewing heavily each time I open with a certain sports genre, and I’m interested to see if this is an effect of seasonality related to that specific sport that will change to a different sport or a different news subject altogether. PromisingI have now been using this as my first go-to source for news updates nearly every morning for more than a month now. I like the summaries, and unbiased approach. These are great, but the game changer I hoped for was it’s touted ability to learn the types of stories and content I was most interested in. The first few days, this was simply not good even after using their tools to determine my interests. I thought I would just give it more time and see what it could do. My complaint is that it has only gotten nominally better, even after continued attempts to “train it”. This has huge potential, but is a bit frustrating that even after telling it I want all the news on certain subjects and none on others, it doesn’t seem to be listening. Apple Mews became too expensive, and ultimately too hard to use while trying to navigate around all the tricks to buy access to certain things. No selling tricks in particle, gives summaries of stories with all the sources linked to which outlet the story came from, and ultimately a quick breakdown grid when appropriate of where news outlets who have written on the story fall across the political and ideological spectrum. All available in a quick glance with links to the full stories from any source when you want to go in depth. Will read it to you while driving or let you read. Simple and easy to use!I read about this app online and came to give it a try. After about a day of using it with my iPhone and my iPad it will definitely be living on my Home Screen now. FeedbackI really enjoy using Particle! One of my favorite things about the app is how it presents article information in an easy-to-read format. I especially appreciate the different reading options like the “5 Ws” and “Explain Like I’m 5” — they make consuming news more approachable and engaging. ExcellentI have always said I wanted a news outlet that would summarize what both the left and the right are saying about any topic. Since it didn’t exist, I found myself reading both right and left leaning outlets to get my news. Spoiler alert: they’re all biased. Even the good ones. Especially the one you read. Fox News? Biased. NYTimes? Biased. CNN? Biased. Duh. Someday I’ll acquire Fox News and MSNBC, lock up the talent and force them all to work together to produce a well balanced news show. Until then, Particle is the best option I’ve seen yet. This app does an excellent job of summarizing what both sides are saying. Very Promising News App!So far in my use, the Particle app is a very clean and useful news app to help digest hundreds of stories into easily digestible headlines and key points. It has a really clean interface, works great in light or dark mode, and is fun to use. Insane battery drainOn one hand, this is my favorite news app. On the other hand, no other app causes my phone to heat up like this, and no other app drains my battery as fast either. Frustrating potentialI was ready to drop Ground News and start using this mainly but it’s just not there yet. It’s very pretty and the AI tech is cool but the bias is so heavy it is hard to ignore, and for me, unusable. At least in GN you get transparency and all the crazy headlines per left, center, and right publications. Here it’s all vaguely left and some few ones have a bar to show bias but still run left headlines. One article I checked out had false info which I tried to correct with a link to a government site showing proof of my point. I want to stress, I provided a US government document from a dotgov site for this. The AI basically said “nah, there’s no evidence.” as a response and cited two other articles spouting the same misinformation. I mean, what’s the point? Uninstalled and renewed my GN sub. Used to be goodThe rise in articles written by journalists who are just sharing their opinion on matters has increased leftward biased to greatly, I would hate to see this be balanced by right wing opinions also for the reason that news should be factual. If someone says the house is burning get out, I need to get out first before we say it’s this persons fault. With the shutdown I have seen a great many opinion pieces blaming republicans from journalists, ok and what about the hundreds of articles testifying to the fact that 60 votes are needed to pass a budget. A Too Good To Be True Privacy NightmareI was wondering why this app is so well polished, easy to use and completely free. Seems too good to be true right? Try to find any details on their devs or their parent company to see the field of red flags. Then read the privacy policy and terms of use: You’re providing them a “non-exclusive, transferable, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, fully-paid, royalty-free, sublicensable (through multiple tiers of sublicensees) right (including any moral rights) and license to use, share, copy, reproduce, modify, adapt, prepare derivative works from, translate, distribute, publicly perform, publicly display and derive revenue or other remuneration from Your Content." This is an extremely broad license. They also: - retain your data perpetually - have you waive your right to sue - share basically everything about you, your phone and your network to any and all third parties including Anthropic and OpenAI Insane, and unacceptable. Be forced to see political contentIt doesn’t matter how many times I select “don’t want” for any government related articles I see, I’m still forced to see Trump’s face and far-right extremist salutes. As a disabled veteran with mental health struggles, I was really hoping that I could have a source of unbiased news. I actually love the app otherwise. The overviews are great. The information seems accurate. The ability to ask questions that are answered with references is delightful. I’m not quitting the app. I just don’t open it unless I have the mental energy to be forced to see things I flatly don’t want to see when I just want to see scientific development, art and entertainment, etc. Even if they were to put all the content I vehemently don’t want to be confronted with after the “there be dragons” (great feature) break, I’d be happy. Please fix this. I’m tired of being livid, and my disability prevents me from being able to regulate normally. It’s exhausting, and this app is currently contributing to my distress..WhenstarscrossVersion: 1.0.13
