EDGE touch (pixel art tool) Positive Reviews

Only app I use. This is the only app I use for my pixel art. I’ve been using it for years. I’ve tried several other apps, but they were either too complicated or far too basic. Edge Touch is just right. It’s super easy to use with a friendly and easy to learn UI. It’s a shame more people don’t know about it..Version: 2.4.1

Clean, straightforward and full-featured pixel art tool for iPhoneIt's the only pixel art / animation tool without bad UI or "deal-breaker" feature omissions that I've found after trying many— UI is clean and the basics are covered elegantly! Four features that would elevate this to a 5 star app in my opinion: 1. ability to hide the color palette bar while drawing, 2. A floating or docked mini preview panel that could be quickly toggled on/off while working zoomed-in, 3. A gradient tool with different dither algorithms and 4. Ability to save and load from iOS files rather than the old iTunes method. Even so, it's my go-to now. Would be great to have an iPad version with pencil support 😉🤞.Version: 2.4.1

Amazing on every levelThis app is the best pixel art app on the AppStore. It has many useful features like making circles, animation, layer options, straight line, creating custom color palettes, and many more. It integrates the touch screen really well also. Being able to select a color by just holding on it is a huge convenience. There are also many options to change, like changing many tools are to be displayed and creating a custom grid. I only have a few problems. First, they need to add an option to create folders to sort your art, and second, it would be nice to be able to make larger images (However 320x480 is more than enough for most things). This app is definitely worth the $3. Overall, it a great pixel art app for people who have been doing pixel art for a while, or for beginners..Version: 2.1.3

Don't misunderstand itJust to let you know, this is a great app. If you need app that is good for pixel art, this is the only one that helps you the most and the most appropriate tools for it. This is not a simple drawing tool, if you didn't notice that. Also, some people complain about importing. You can only import TO PC's application, EDGE, not import from PC to iPhone.(btw sorry, I'm not sure if EDGE is usable for mac) it's just like dj tool app called iMaschine- not that you know it. iMaschine will let you creat a decent music, but you'll end up getting a actual Maschine to finish the job. Same idea goes here. Besides, drawing a perfect pixel art for D0, D4, HD size would be notouriously difficult just with this app. Also I don't think you can invisiblize the color with this app either. In the end, this app is more like supporting app of the PC application EDGE. It still works, and person who needs to make D4 size animation but has college classes and can't sit on the computer to do it, it will be a lot of help. However, this app -can use import support. Not required though. -crashes quite often. May need update to fix that. I would only recommend getting this if •you have PC •needs pixel art-to-go and finish up at home with EDGE •you have PATIENCE. It takes time to draw a pixel art. It won't be a doodle time..Version: 1.06

PerfectIf you need assurance that this tool is as functional as it looks, I can guarantee it. True to it's word, it offers very responsive and precise drawing (which believe it or not is a problem for this tools "competitors"), it offers layer support, be it for animation or more in depth control, simple and effective pallet control, and the necessary export types (PNG, animated gif, etc.) It's pretty much as functional as a standard image editing software, geared mainly towards pixel art. Other cool things within it are onion skin, two grids (one for pixels, the other for dividing the image into groups, both of which are customizable), and a tool for directly exporting the files to your computer, no awkward Dropbox transfers. Definitely everything you'd want and more in a Pixel art tool, well worth the money..Version: 2.1.1

Been waiting a while for youThis is a really great app and I have been waiting a long time for one like it. It has many of the functions I have been looking for to create custom sprite work on the go. A side note to neoREgen: You are right about the app resizing the canvas when given a designated custom size, however that being said it is not impossible to correct this, all you do is resize the canvas. I did this with your designated dimentions and got the results you were looking for... So my point: I think it is a bug, but not impossible to get around. Again this is a wonderful app if you are looking to do custom sprite work.Version: 0

Amazing, BUT!Its an amazing app for pixel animators all around. But theres just one itty bitty problem with the hole animating stuff. You see, i animate in a 2D frame scale. Or original animation. You know, frame, draw, next frame, everything gets erased and then you repeat. But I'd like to see a, tutorial be implemented into the app. Its great for pixel art and they give you a huge amount of preset colors and colors you can make your self (over 240 to be exact). But the animation stuff! I just don't understand a single but. I went and looked at the website but not even that helped the slightest of bits. Its a neat, clean app and everyone should get it whose into pixel art. Its worth the three bucks and I hope that a way to teach the drawer could be implemented in the next update. Thank you for this amazing app but for now! Its a four out of five!.Version: 2.1.0

Pixel PerfectEdge Touch has every feature I could want in a pixel art program. It is easy to use, has tons of features, and it ain't bad to look at either! You can set up a canvas of any size you like, use pencil, bucket, elipse, rectangle and line tools to place colors from preset palette or using colors you created via RGB and other sliders. Those colors can be saved in numerous slots, and then ported from one image to another. You can select areas or color spaces using magic wand, selection marquees, or lassos. You can cut, copy, and paste, transform and manipulate. You can zoom in and out, view your canvas with and without a grid, and save and export your images in multiple formats and via a couple different means. There's an animation functionality, which I have not yet used, but if it's anything like the rest if the app, it should be great..! Overall, a great pixel art application with tons of features and ability..Version: 0

It's greatThis app is the best app on the AppStore for pixel art. You can make simple to complex animations, have hundreds of colors on your palette and any color. The only problem with the new update I when I export my drawing to my photo gallery it's a little blurry so I usually have to take a screen shot to get a crisp image. It's kind of disappointing but it will probably be fixed and still my favorite app for pixel art!.Version: 2.0.0

Pixel artist? This is your app.Best pixel art app out there. Has color, copy/paste, etc. I was looking for a portable version of mspaint or grapicsgale to create pixel art on the go. This app is perfect for the job. I didn't see many/any ratings when I took the plunge on this app. I wanted to let others know how good this is..Version: 0

Ok. But needs work. This could be a very nice app but it needs some work. To start with, It's very cluttered and distracting. The tools don't need to be so big. They take up 30% of the screen. It wouldn't take much to clean this up and make it much nicer to work with. It is bit frustrating to see no updates coming. So much work to get this app to where it is, why not polish it?. For now there are much better pixel editors out there. But this could be a contender. If only..Version: 1.06

Great App will be outstanding with updatesSeriously, this is THE first real and fully featured pixel editing app on the iPhone. Since it already has layers built-in, all it needs is the ability to import images from your Photo Library for tracing/pixelating in Edge. For example: Loosely sketch your drawing in something like Brushes, then import the image into Edge for spriting/cleaning up. PLEASE make this happen and soon!.Version: 0

Update needs to open photosAll this really needs is the ability to open photos/ pixel art from your photo gallery. If you receive pixel art via email, how can you open and change it. And the trace tool isn't that great since it still leaves the difficulty of having to match the colors. And the interface could be better, but I'm not complaining. It's worth the 2 bucks, just needs refinement..Version: 1.06

Best pixel art app on the app storeIf you've been looking for an app and have tried the other ones and have stumbled upon this app don't worry. you may be wondering whether this is truly worth the 3 dollars. It is absolutely flawless i have yet to find an issue with it..Version: 2.1.2

ExcellentThe best pixel editing software I've used, and I'm including desktop! Such a quick convenient interface. I wish there was a mac data tool though..Version: 0

Great! This is my favorite pixel paint app for the iPhone! My only request is to include the ability to import from the camera roll. Then you could import a pic and create a new layer over that and do pixel paintings of that image. Then this app will be 5 stars all the way! .Version: 0

Great pixel drawing appThis app exactly what I was looking for. The only thing it could use is a dropper tool to take colors from a Trace image (maybe using the copy&paste functions in the RGB menu) for convenience..Version: 0

私は日本語を話すことはありませんIt's awesome if you have too much free time on your hands and want to spend hours making tiny pixel people fight to the death Or just make normal pixel people standing around in like 5 min your choice.Version: 2.1.1

The best Pixel Editor on the App Store!I've tried so many of these apps and yet have not found any other that can match Edge Touch. It's far and away the easiest to use..Version: 2.1.2

Hands down, BEST pixel art editor!I've tried a ton, and this one takes the cake! There's layers, animation, .gif export, and a ton more awesome little features! I'm using this app to create artwork for my upcoming iOS game :).Version: 2.0.0

Really nice!Compared to other pixel drawing apps, this one is by far my favorite. Has all the features and is easy to use. I'm very satisfied. :).Version: 2.0.1

Cool!Perfect for creating isometric pixel art and video game sprites. I like the ability of saving color palettes, which is a great feature..Version: 1.06

GreatJust the right kind of program I was looking for. Impressed me from the beginning..Version: 1.06

ScalingPlease add more scaling options. X4 is the highest, and the overall quality afterwords is still kinda bad..Version: 2.0.1

The best! This app really is the best for pixel painting, it even has shortcuts that make drawing and animating really easy!.Version: 0

Best Pixel ToolGreat app. Has more features than a lot of the others ones on the AppStore..Version: 2.0.1

Features +, Accesibility -This is a typical case of attemting to do too much and making the app less fun to use in the process. The basic screen's interface has menus on three sides of the screen, which limits the amount of space you have to actually see and edit the picture. The interface itself is designed rather haphazardly-it's ugly, but it works. Well, after you figure out what you're doing. For instance, I want to size the picture to be around 8 pixels wide and 40 tall. Impossible. It doesn't inform you of this though- it just alters the pixels of H or W to coincide with the number you most recently changed... So say I type in 8 under width. Cool. 8 is there. Now I type in 40 for height. Cool. My 8 is still there. Hit okay. And it resizes the picture- not to my specifications, but to the nearest pixels possible in it's set aspect ratio, according to the number I more recently altered. That's one example of the oddities behind what you'll learn about how this program works. I guarantee you'll find others. If you want to edit pixel by pixel, you need to be zoomed in very close- to the point in which you only see about 30 pixels total on screen. That's just a limitation of the device, not a problem with the app, but the app doesn't do the best it can to circumvent the issue. A different app gets around the issue of hitting intended pixels by making you tap each individual pixel- tap on to place color, tap again to erase. I find this superior because it allows the user to move the image by dragging one finger rather than using two, which is convenent seeing as you'll need to do this a Lot because you can only see and accurately tap on around 30 pixels total. With this app you'll be doing a lot of two finger scrolling. This app lacks a lot of polish, but it definitely has more features than any other pixel editor I've found on the app store. However, I find it's overall clunky interface far too inaccessible to continue using personally. Ease of use is far more important to me than the myriad number of features offered..Version: 0

EdgeI've always been interested in pixel art, and this app opened up a new world for me. This application has tons of features, is user friendly and it has an easy to use interface to make design pixel art on the go possible! Overall, I maybe be new to pixel art, but I know a good app when I see one, and this would be one of those. I'm also looking for some good tutorials for learning how to do good (I have broad interests when it comes to the topic, it all interests me.) pixel art. -Fß.Version: 1.06

Great AppThis app has SWAG -Buraq.Version: 2.1.2

Great for planning structures in MinecraftI was searching for just such an app. Thanks..Version: 1.06

Best pixel art appOnly thing I wish it had would be an opacity slider for the pencil. And a "transparent" color. Good for icons, animations..Version: 1.06

None betterAfter an exhaustive search for a gif animation creator, this is as close as you can get. This application has a wide array of tools like rotate, flip, line, shape, layers, fill, copy and paste within the application only(no importing). You can keep a preview of your art in actual size while working on the zoomed image, various canvas sizes up to 320x480(I think). Pinch to zoom in/out and two finger swipe to scroll. There is an option for onion skinning but I haven't got that advanced yet. I have downloaded a few other pixel paint applications (even one for the ipad only, which I don't own) and this is easily the best. The one downer is no importing of art or exporting as an animated gif. If you've happened to find this gem while searching, believe me when I say this is the only thing, as of Aug.30,2010..Version: 0

Best Pixel Art AppThis is a great app! Was tempted to give five stars, but that rating is tossed around so much these days, and I think are a few things that would definitely improve this app. Interface is appropriate. Once you get used to moving around the controls, the real estate the controls take up doesn't become that obtrusive. Would like to know exactly what the b/g color selector does. I can't seem to figure it out and on more than one occasion it has messed up my art to the point where I had to revert back to a previous save. Could use some explanation. Also, would love to see some other export functions such as iTunes file sharing, Dropbox, or iDisk. This implementation would definitely deserve a 5-star rating..Version: 1.06

Feature Rich, But Unrefined and Obtuse UIThis is the first pixel art app I've bought, and so I can't compare it to other apps. Of the two I looked at, this one advertised the most features. It also supports the largest canvases. But what it gains in sheer power and capability, it loses in the user interface department. The controls take up too much of the screen, and can't be hidden to reduce clutter. Important settings are found in hard to reach places. Gestures are poorly matched to tasks. For example, scrolling is done with two fingers. This is a real pain, as it becomes harder too see what you're doing with two fingers, and you run out of room much more quickly than you would with one. tl;dr Spend your money elsewhere. This app's UI will have you tearing your hair out..Version: 1.06

AmazingThis is the perfect tool for illustrating pixel art on iOS (best I've seen yet), I hope they continue to update cause I would really love to be able to swipe away the palette when I don't need it to free up more space on the canvas..Version: 2.1.3

Nicely doneThis is the perfect app for pixel art on the iPod. The only ways to make it even better would be to make it possible to export layers into a bunch of PNGs and add predefined triangles. A way to unlock the x-y (vertical horizontal) in order to develop shapes in different angles would also be nice. I would definitely recommend this app for anyone who wants to mess around with pixel art and even for professionals who are on the go. Thank you for such great work, I feel like my iPod is now worth (if not a MUST) to be carried everywhere..Version: 2.0.0

Great app-PerfectI'm doing gfx for a game my friends are making and this was exactly what i needed -- great app highly recommended excellent for pixel art.Version: 0

Great pixel art appMy favourite iPhone pixel app, and I've been trying them all. Actually, this is my favourite iPhone art app for that matter. The ability to make and email animated gifs is icing on the cake..Version: 0
