Super Why! Power to Read App Comments & Reviews

Super Why! Power to Read Positive Reviews

Needs some parental optionsI purchased this app for my three year old daughter who knows her letter names, letter sounds, and some sight words. She loves the tv show and will enjoy the game. The games stay true to the objective of the tv show. I hope in future updates that they give the parent the option to turn off the background music (it gets annoying pretty fast!) and would also like the option for the user to able to tap on the word in some of the games to have the word spoken for them (then have the user drag and drop the word). Had I known that these options were not available I may have held off on the app purchase. Maybe I'll have her use headphones for now!.Version: 2.33

Super Why BundleThis is a great app. For reference this app is running on IPad 7 generation. The visual, sound, and the os work smooth on the iPad no bugs, delays, load speed or sound issues. Super Why from PBS is one of my daughter favorite shows and she love being part of their adventure. She picking up spelling, letter identification, sounds, and all around enjoys this app. This is a great app and the bundle packet is a great value. Would recommend to any parent looking for a high quality beginners reading and spelling game..Version: 4.2

LOVE THIS APPYou have to turn your sound on in order to hear it. So switch the little switch on the left top side of your phone and you’ll have sound. I literally bought this app three years ago and both my kids still love it. Perfect for 18 months to four years!! Love! Highly recommend.Version: 4.2

FIXED!!!NO SOUNDSo I had just added a bad review for this because of all the reviews with sound issues. I’ve never left a bad review and was really surprised PBS still had an app with such long standing issues. So I did some comments research. Came across one comment that said the issue is that if your phone’s mute button is on then the app sound is also off. Tried it-SOUND FIXED. So happy to have randomly come across this one comment. So I changed my review from 1 star to 4. It doesn’t get 5 though because this is a long standing issue and so this fix should be pinned to the top. I’m relieved to have found such a simple fix. Hooray!.Version: 4.2

How to fix the sound problemTurn silent mode off and it should be fixed..Version: 4.2

No Sound ProblemsWorks great!.Version: 4.2

I love this app it is very funI love this app..Version: 4.2

Great for preKI didn't have any trouble installing, but there are still a couple bugs I noticed. When tracing letters, sometimes the contact is lost and my daughter has to keep tracing, but that's not so bad... Can just be frustrating for a little one that may feel like they're not doing it correctly. A HUGE thumbs up for the spelling section. Many other preschool spelling apps do not require for children to place letters in the correct order. Really? As far as I know, cat is not spelled t-c-a, which is how my little girl spelled it and got a "sticker" for it. I love coaching her with phonics and spelling, but we both enjoy a game she can play independently. When spelling words, she must first identify the letter that makes the (blank) sound. When the correct letter is found (chosen from a group of 4), the letter is identified and the child traces the letter... It is then placed in the correct position and then proceeds to repeat until the word is spelled correctly. Lots of stickers and positive verbal reinforcement. Only downed it a star, because I feel that after all the technical issues that have been reported, they should fix the bugs or lower the price. Still worth it as long as it works..Version: 1.5

SUPER Super Why for IPadAlready had this on my EVO 4G so I knew the basics. My 2 yr old grandson basically learned letter recognition etc. from the Super Why TV show, so this has now become his favorite go to when he needs to entertain himself, like the long ride to NanaPa's house! (Or the periods of times when Nana & Grandpa are boring!) The program loaded in seconds (I have a fast wifi connection) and ran flawlessly so I have no Idea what the other reviewers problem was....I did learn on "the other side" that it is best to dl it with wifi.... The app itself is built on the 4 strengths of the 4 characters. Alpha Pig's is the easiest and best to start with. Like the TV show, you follow the road and choose the correct path by choosing the correct letter. Even Wonder Red's Rhyming words was enjoyable for him, by substituting letter recognition for rhyming recognition. All in all it is a very enjoyable app that should bring hours of fun and learning to any Super Why fan... And even though it is cheaper on the other platform, playing it on an IPad is by far a superior platform and easier.. And the letter tracing it much better on the IPad..Version: 1.5

Great learning toolMy daughter loves Super Why! and loves this game. She has been using it extensively for the past few days and we have had zero crashes. There are essentially 4 games to choose from which vary in difficulty - just like the show - from identifying letters, and identifying letter sounds in the context of actual words, to rhyming, writing, and completing sentences. Those familiar with the show will immediately recognize the formats. You are rewarded with "stickers" when you successfully complete the tasks. My ONLY complaint is that there isn't more content. I didn't actually count but there may only be up to 20 scenarios for each game. My daughter doesn't seem to mind, but i wish there was more. Maybe in an ads-on later....Version: 0

The Power to Read!I'm not sure where my 2 year-old heard of Super Why!, but he kept talking about it until I finally bought him some episodes on iTunes. Since he's now always play-acting the scenes, I tried to find the music on iTunes, and discovered the app instead. It's brilliant! Not only does it do a great job of embodying the various characters, they've come up with a really useful and engaging way to teach basic reading skills. For example, Princess Presto's "letter tracing" game is far simpler for my son than the full-fidelity Montessori version. At this rate, he should be reading before he turns three! :-).Version: 1.4

Fun app but a little buggy...My 3 yr olds really like the fun and educational games. However, it would be nice if the app was a little more stable - an accidental double click to start a game instead of a single sometimes leads to a crash. The letter writing functionality could also use some tuning - the "how to" animations take too long and it can be unnecessarily frustrating for even a grown up to trace letters the "correct" way. Also wouldn't mind a bit more variety in the content - it seems like we keep getting the same stories coming up over and over again. With some tweaks, this could be a 5 star..Version: 0

Great appNot sure about the problems with loading but we had no problems. also one reviewer mentioned the the wand in the tracing, it could be that you need to trave in the correct format / order and I can see for beginniners that might be frustrating so maybe some prompts if you dont get it the first time would be helpful. My kids love this app. It has something for everyone. It is too easy for my 7 year old but still he likes to help the little ones. Nice app, thumbs up..Version: 1.5

Great potential. My four year old seems to really like this app and I think it has good potential as an educational game. The "earning a sticker" concept is Ingenious; he loves that part of it. The games are fairly simple...I think ages 4/5 are about right for this app, I can't imagine kids with true reading ability being very engaged by this one. We haven't had any stability issues yet, fingers crossed, so no complaints there!.Version: 1.4

Should be a Universal AppThis app should be universal. It's ridiculous that the developer has created 2 versions: one for iPhone/ iPod touch and another for iPad; when one universal app could have done. Other developers have done it. For the times that I don't have my iPad but have my iPhone I would like to have this app in my pocket for my kids but I'm not about to pay for it twice. For this reason I'm giving it 3 stars..Version: 1.4

My 4-year-old son loves this gameSuper Why appeals to my four-year-old on several levels. The games are a lot like those on the T.V. show, with focus on letter recognition, phonics and sight-reading. He likes playing the games and earning stickers for completing each one. At the end of each session he goes into the sticker album and creates pictures with the new stickers he has earned. He asks to play almost every day. It hasn't crashed so far, but I didn't give it 5 stars because it allows both "C" and "K" to appear as choices when the child is asked which letter makes the sound of a hard "C". My son picked the "K" and was confused when the game said it didn't make that sound. Other than that, we highly recommend this game!.Version: 0

Unstable but has potentialThe game is a little unstable in this version. Had some crashes. Needs a bit more variety in the game but otherwise a good game.Version: 0

Super Why are you using dated stories?Overall the app is good and has kept my 5 year old busy. I found the stories to be "dated". There is a glitch of sorts on one of the stories, it stops loading. It's better than some of the other games and kids relate to the characters. Aa little expensive for a basic app..Version: 2.33

3 1/2 year old loves it.Our 3 1/2 year old has taken a huge interest in reading and he loves this app. For the low cost if he moves on to other things I’m not so worried, and in the meantime he has learned about rhyming and is practicing sounding letters out..Version: 2.33

Could be betterMy 3year old son loves Super Why, so I got this game for him. It's ok but could be better. It's a little limited and response on the tracing of letters is horrible..Version: 1.5

Is pretty goodBoth my boys (2 and 4) love Super Why. I found version 1.2 to be a little unstable. Also expected more games for the price. There are 4 games but the number of variations seem limited. It is a little thing but Pig sounds like Red, as if they could not get right voice actor for the game. For someone who has seen a LOT of Super Why episodes, it is a little distracting. But the game is a favourite here due to the fact this is their favourite tv show..Version: 0

Just like the show!If your child likes the show, then they will enjoy this game. Each of the four characters have their own game type just like their little segments in the show. Winning "stickers" of the different characters in each game allows you to use them in a fun fifth area. Your child can place these stickers on to several different backdrops with a touch. My kid really enjoys this game and it's also a great learning experience..Version: 0

GreatThis is an amazing game for young kids. A great game for a great price that is a great learning tool..........great..Version: 1.5
