Mathmateer® App Comments & Reviews

Mathmateer® Positive Reviews

Almost perfectI'm a third grade teacher and had my students use this app (along with the many other awesome Dan Russel-Pinson apps) to extend their learning in math. I love how you can have students practice their basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts, and can even do the extended 2 by 2 facts while writing on the pad to help you figure problems out! I also love the ability to choose different "missions" to practice different areas of math varying in level of difficulty. The only thing that could make this better has to do with how students are able to solve the different missions when their rocket is in space and they need to click on the different stars for correct answers. I have noticed several students just quickly tapping every number, shape etc. in sight rather than carefully clicking the correct answers. I thought when they clicked wrong answers their rocket would descend more quickly than when you answer only correctly, however when I tried it I was able to get a gold medal on counting by 10s even though I clicked every star in sight. So the one thing that would make this app perfect is to make the rocket descend back to earth more quickly whenever a student clicks a wrong answer, and maybe after three wrong answers descend to earth until the next launch..Version: 1.4

Amazing AppThis is an amazing app I have used for a long time, very educational and realistic as well. For example if you add an excessive amount of boosters your rocket won’t work, because if you add too many boosters and not enough fins, your rocket won’t be able to handle the pressure. Fun space math game! 🚀.Version: 2.3

Not bad, not bad at allI don’t really like it. But that’s just an opinion as it’s a good game. PS one I’m really enjoying is monster physics as it’s a lot like this game only far better and more building focused rather than math.Version: 2.3

FUN!I love this app you do math problems and if you get them right you get money to make your rocket..Version: 2.3

AmazingI’m a 6th grader and it’s one of the best apps I have ever played.Version: 2.3

Great app for the low price!I downloaded Rocket Math for an elementary math methods class at my college, and it was my favorite of all the apps I looked at. For such a low price of $0.99, it is packed full of different missions and activities for students to do! This app could be used with students from around age 5 or 6 to even age 12. This customizability is something that I really like about Rocket Math. The games are fun and engaging while still educational. Also, the game is fast-paced, but it is not stressful to play. I also like how you can repeat each level multiple times to try for a better score, because it encourages and rewards improvement in an appropriate way. Although I would definitely recommend this app to other teachers, there are a few modifications that I would suggest. First, there needs to be a tutorial of some sort, because it is confusing to know what to do when you open the app for the first time. It would also be helpful to include steps on how to build a rocket and what the pieces are on the build-a-rocket screen. I had to resort to using the sample rocket, because I did not know that you needed to add those pieces to the rocket to make it run..Version: 1.4

Interesting game. Slightly confusing rocket-building but cool idea. When creating your rocket, don't forget to add an engine (listed as rockets in the parts list). Need to go higher, just add more boosters. Keep the thrust cranked up, to go high. Not sure why you would want to reduce thrust. And make sure you really want your selected part because when you select it, it's immediately purchased. This game needs a "preview" mode so you can play with rocket designs, before you pay..Version: 1.0

My son has mastered math...Thanks to this fantastic app, my seven year old son has found his learning tool of choice. Being a home schooled kiddo, we implement tons of fun and tactile ways of introducing concepts to him. This app by far has superseded all of the others we've purchased so far, since applying the iPad to his studies. His enthusiasm is amazing and with the polished graphics and audio I myself am impressed with what the developers have done for the homeschooling community! The way he jumps right into the problems with ease, unlike some more complicated apps, not only makes learning fun for him but also encourages him to explore more difficult lessons; while allowing him the incentive of earning money for improving his rocket. Don't give it a second thought, rocket math is for anyone wanting a math tool that really works!.Version: 0

Incredible app for a great price!,,I love this developer (Stack the States fame)! This game has so many facets to it. The kids stay engaged in the challenge of constantly building a better rocket, which takes skill all on it's own, but also requires money. So they practice math to earn more money to build better rockets. I love that you can choose the various math challenges--from counting by ones or twos or fives, or money, or backwards, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division or even square roots. There's something for preschoolers up to middle schoolers....all 6 of my kids love this app! You won't be disappointed! What an incredible value!!! Can't wait to see what this developer comes out with next!.Version: 0

Really well thought out. This app uses a great reward method. Children have to solve math problems to earn money to build their rockets. Once they build them, they get to launch them! But they still have to do math during the flight of their rocket to earn medals. It's a great concept. My 5 year old wants to learn math now because of it. One suggestion to the developers: Please create an "extra easy" math stage. Addition and subtraction that does not go above adding to ten and subtracting from ten. This would be a great stage for beginning math learners. Also, I noticed a time limit, maybe eliminate the time limit for beginners. One of the best apps out there for children!.Version: 1.3

Versatile and fun!Our family loves this app! My kids are between 4and 11, and all are able to play this game at a level that is challenging, but still entertaining. Even I have been known to use it for a quick brain pick-me-up :) My son, in particular, loves designing rockets and shooting them into space. He gets a big kick out of the re-entry and landing animations, too. My girls are older, and enjoy the challenge of answering quickly and accurately to win medals. One commenter seemed disappointed that engines have to be earned, but that's my favorite feature. It's a great motivator for my kids to work even more on their math skills to earn new parts! Thanks for a fun, educational, and engaging app..Version: 2.0

I love itI'm a kid and I play it all the time it's so fun! You get to make rockets and launch them with all the money you earn from doing math problems. On the math problems you can choose hard medium or easy. The higher levels you get more money and the lower levels you get less money, but it's absolutley fair. Now the math probles are adding, subtracting, multiplying, and division. If you get all the ten problems right on any off them you get to spin the bonus wheel which is fun! I think it's is a wonderful great game adults and kids can play! It also gets me warmed up for math and it can also help beginners with math! I think rocket math is a very fun game everyone should play!.Version: 1.4

This is a great appThis is a great app. It has so many features, yet it is easy to operate and play. I just purchased it on my iPod and my nephew (6 yr old) and I spent at least 2 hours playing -- I've never had a children's app hold my or his attention for so long. Very attractive, fun graphics, easy to use, lots of variety in the various steps to make money, buy parts, build the rocket, and fly different kinds of missions. I can see him playing with this again and again and using it as he gets into higher grades and more complex math . I asked my husband to buy it on his iPad so we can play with the larger version next time..Version: 1.1

Great for SchoolI am a teacher in a multi-grade school and I can tell you that this is an amazing way to help students with their multiplication tables. It allows for the students to become eager to learn their math in order to earn more money to build up their rocket. They can build a rocket anyway they wish to try and launch as far as they can into space! Students can learn even and odd numbers, money, patterns, and more. Buy this for an educational purpose or for fun... or both! I enjoy playing it myself while at the same time I continue to train my brain..Version: 1.3

Well done (again)!I got this game based on nothing but my high respect for the "Stack the States" game. Still with no reviews out when I purchased it, I knew it was a gamble...I just had no idea how big the payoff was going to be!! My third-grade son cannot get enough of it! It is currently the carrot we are using when he does other things we ask of him. Then my wife and I sit back and chuckle to ourselves as he has a ball "playing" with math!! Overall, the game is genius: solid concept, fun, easy to play, educational (without feeling to "teach-y"), slick design, good physics, and an absolute hit at my house!.Version: 0

My son loves this!My 7 year old son wants to play this nonstop! It is very entertaining and a great way to do math at the same time. The only negative is that when he works on shapes it is difficult for him to have to read the ever changing directives while he is trying to tap the correct shapes. The directions to each game are sometimes written before the game actually begins, and sometimes it pops up on the screen after the game has begun, making him miss scoring opportunities. Other than that, I can hardly get him off my iPad for playing it so much! Still worth a 5 star rating..Version: 1.4

The kid gets his video game fix! This is as close to playing video games as our family comes, and my seven year-old loves the app. The creators were smart, allowing players to design their rockets and add on pieces as they win levels. There are multiple levels, so the game can keep changing even though the premise is the same - click as many of the right answers as possible while flying through space, and they range from early elementary basics to more challenging math, so the app grows with my son's learning. Very happy that the creators really understand kids..Version: 1.4

Rocket Math RocksWe played this as a family, all creating our own rockets, tonight after family dinner. It was literally a 'blast'. The kids had to do math facts to earn money to buy parts for their rocket. They were WAY motivated. Earning money for math problems = kids wanting to do lots of math problems. Graphics, sound, UI (for a 7yo) all pulled together very well. I had to do more assistance with the 5yo, but once she caught on it was no problem. Big hit, I see this as a great way to practice math facts and get the whole family in on the game..Version: 1.0

Fun but not needs some enhancementsIf your child is very self motivated to learn and math comes pretty easily to them, this app is fun and may have some value. The app only tells you a single score - it does not display individual scores for right, wrong, and total points possible. I don't know if the single score is just the number of right answers or a composite of right minus wrong - i haven't tested this). Too easy for a child to go through the motions without learning much. With points possible and separate scores for right and wrong answers, you would be in a much better position to guide your childs use of the application..Version: 1.4

Fun AND educationalRocket math is an excellent tool for increasing anyone's basic math skills. The best part is that it's so fun to play that kids (and adults) won't mind the education involved. Great for math lovers and those hesitant about their skills. The varying levels and math topics make it easy to tailor to your child's (or your) needs. Mostly for kids...but great for adults who want to get faster with the basics. I imagine it's great for our aging brains too..Version: 1.3

Kids love it!I am an elementary resource teacher and I highly recommend this game. It is a great tool to use when you are trying to differentiate instruction in a small group. Students see it as a reward and don't even realize they are practicing math skills. Some of the tasks are difficult and move at a fast pace. You may not be able to use this game with all students..Version: 1.7

Wish I had it when I was a kid! This is a great app. If I had had this when I was young I'm sure my basic math skills would be much better. The iTouch devices have become a great way to educate, while keeping a kid entertained. Doing math problems to earn cash for more rocket parts is a great idea. Kids love customizing things like rockets. And then you fly missions with the rocket you built. Those are a lot of fun too!.Version: 1.1

Amazing!I got this app to prepare for my future evil math teacher over the summer, and it's really helped me brush up on my skills! However, for me at least, that was the only thing the app helped me do: review. Even when you're earning money with the hard mode for your rocket with the math problems and all, it's kinda easy. They should make it a lot harder. Other than that, great app, two thumbs up..Version: 1.4

My 7yo kid loves the gameGreat math learning tool. Very engaging. Kid loves to play and the incentive to earn points/money to build the rocket have her coming back to this math game more than any other math games we've bought her. The ability to do addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with various levels of difficulty will surely last her through out her elementary school years..Version: 1.3

Really Great, but..My 11 year old son and 6 year old daughter love this. The problem is, they get to a point where they stop doing the math and just build and launch the rockets. Can you look at a way of changing it up so you have to go through the calculations before you get to build the rocket and another before you can launch it? or something..Version: 1.8

Fun app for many agesBoth of my daughters (7 and 10) love this app. The 1st grader practices her adding and subtraction (and is learning harder addition); while the 4th grader is practicing multiplication and division. They both love to build rockets and launch them. Not everything is immediately self-explanatory, but they have figured most everything out..Version: 1.7

Thanks for a great appOur 4 year old has an uncanny love for and ability in math. We love this app and play it together almost daily. He loves building the rockets, too. I like all the options for the launch challenge. He plays the easy levels and watches me solve the more advanced ones. We both wish for negative numbers, though. Maybe in an update? Great game - Thank you!.Version: 1.4

My eight year old loves it!My eight year old was recently skipped a grade and we were told that though her math skills were great her speed will need to pick up. This is where this app comes in; it is just outstanding for training a young mind for speed math. I can see were before she would have to do the multiplication in her head, slowly, before giving you the answer. Now her confidence has picked up and she will shout it out as quickly as possible, that is what we specifically wanted. On top of that the game is just plain silly, scoring more for right answers allowing her to build outrageous rockets which drive her to play (learn) more. Very nice, will recommend without hesitation..Version: 1.4

Perfect for 1st gradersMy 6 year old is obsessed with this App. He has a rocket shaped piggy bank in real life so I think the fact that he earns money as he accumulates the right answers is especially alluring to him. This is one of those back door learning apps where the kids do not even realize they are learning as they play with it!! ;).Version: 1.1

All agesThis game has proved successful for my kids in a variety of ages. It allows my five-year-old to do the basic math games and then I let my three-year-old launch spaceship into space and get counting games which is all they can do. I would think that this game would be ideally suited for kids over five however..Version: 2.1

Super creativeThis is a fantastic multi level educational app. Can choose many different levels of math games for earning money to buy rocket parts and once you launch into space. Also nice propulsion etc physics as rocket flight distance, direction, duration responds to placement and number rockets, boosters, fins, etc. Very deeply thought out app. Thank you!.Version: 1.4

On the bad/good 50/50 lineIt's your decision whether you want to buy this, but I would save that dollar for something else. I am a fan of the Dan Russel-Pinson games, but this game doesn't fit in with the others. The math on this is EXTREMELY easy and the new update change adding the term non-square rectangle could confuse younger players. Kids don't usually hear that term until third or fourth grade! But remember what I said: it's your choice..Version: 1.4

Fun education! It is a ton of fun and educational too. You can build rockets and to earn money you have to do math. You can do addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The only drawback is the fact that it doesn't have math algebra and up. You can choose a mission, launch your personally built rocket, and win medals for completing the missions. This is a must-have educational game..Version: 1.7

Fun and educationalThis kept my kiddo so happy while we waited for the eclipse last night. He's getting excellent practice with double digit addition and he can grow into multiplication / division. There are so many options for different missions and different math learning too. This app is packed with good tools for learning!.Version: 1.1

Great activity, great interest!!!Bought this for my students to use, but have found it very entertaining myself. It has many different aspects that help to keep to keep it interesting and bring the students back again and again.,.Version: 1.4

Kids only play the easy level math to earn easy $.It seems that there is no reward for solving harder math problems. Kids get $ whether they solve easy level addition or hard level division. Would give it 5 stars if the game rewards for the higher level math skills by "unlocking" special rocket upgrades or special flight move..Version: 1.1

Accelerate learningMy kids love this app. It has accelerated their ability to learn math facts in a very fun way. My 3 year old has almost mastered all addition problems and my 7 year old can do two digit multiplication in her head. It is well worth the money..Version: 1.3

Great gameMy six year old started on this game he was early five. He's been playing this game for a year and never tiring of it because all the number combinations and just building a rocket. His math skills are also higher than other kids his age..Version: 1.4

Lots of funIt's fun to assemble the rocket and keep buying parts with money earned by completing math problems. It's a great motivational tool for learning math and having fun at the same time. Dan has done it again with another fantastic educational app! I highly recommend it..Version:

Students love RocketMath!I am a senior at Liberty University online majoring in Education. I also tutor children at my local public school. The students love RocketMath! I take the iPad with all of my educational apps, but I get more students to collaborate doing Math with RocketMath ran any other app!.Version: 1.5

Great game for kidsI have 3 boys (ages: 3, 5, 7) and they ALL love playing this game. I like that you can pick the type of math problem as well as difficulty level. They really enjoy launching the rockets, which in turn gets them doing math! Great game..Version: 1.4

Great learning gameI can't say enough about how wonderful this game is. My 5 and 7 year old boys beg to play. There is plenty to keep them coming back for more math because of the way the reward system is designed. Excellent job..Version: 1.3

KMBeautiful graphics. You do math to earn money to outfit your rocket- and then you use your rocket for math missions. The more power that you put on your rocket the higher you go and the more time you get for your mission. Well done. My daughter is addicted and begging to do more math..Version: 1.4

Great gameI homeschool my 6 and 8 yr old boys, and they think this game is a reward for getting their homework done! You can change the difficulty level so everybody can play easily or be challenged. I highly recommend it..Version: 1.4

Very niceVery good for teaching.Version: 2.3

ExcellentI am using for my boys age 6 & 7. They enjoy building the rocket and changing all of the parts on it. They complete their math questions to earn more money to buy more parts. Learning while having fun! Glad they can keep up on their math during our travels to avoid the summer slide!!.Version: 2.3

Math can be fun and cahllengingThis app is out of the ordinary since it is combining speed with the mathematical aptitudes of the person playing. The missions can be visualized by categories (Numbers, counting, time,US money, shapes/patterns, add/subtract, multiply/divide, challenge) or by difficulty (beginner, novice, intermediate, advanced, expert, genius). My son, Dominic, was the guinea pig for this review. He is 7 years old and is currently doing grade 1 work in maths. He is not as rapid as me to select his numbers and I sat next to him to explain some of the requests made. However, I think he did well for his level of learning. He loved the fact that he could pick his own avatar and make his own rocket. You also have the possibility of earning more money by answering mathematical questions so that you can improve your rocket or built another one. The animation provided for this app is very creative, colourful and fun. Music is even added in the background as well as cheering when the rocket comes back down. The kids are not the only ones who can participate to the missions included in this app – adults can too. And to make it more competitive, how about putting a competition between you and your child? If he or she beats you in the score, then you can be sure that you will hear from it for a long time. The only thing that disappoints me is the fact that the section on money is not universal or at least that I cold choose my country from a selection. I have nothing against US money but in Canada our paper and coin money is quite different. It would be nice to have the choice to pick something. Mind you, we travel to the US quite regularly so in a way it is good that my kids learn more about the US money as well as our own Canadian money. This app is reasonably priced and honestly I wouldn’t hesitate one second to purchase it just to have the kids practice their speed in answering mathematical questions. An app like this will help them put their lessons in practice and help them to answer rapidly the mission specifications. Rocket Math is an universal app which means you can use it for the iPhone or the iPad..Version: 1.2

DecentThis app is good for kids and the difficulty level makes it fun for adults too. I do not like that the money section is in USD though, if it is available in Canada it would be nice to have Canadian currency. My kids need practice learning about Canadian coins, not the backs of American coins. I think if you are going to have money in your app it would be good to have the currency of whatever countries the app is available in..Version: 1.4

Great app for grade 1 mathExcellent app for early to grade 2 math..Version: 1.4

The most epic math ever!Get the game it is awesome even though you have to pay$..Version: 2.0

My 6 y/o son's reviewThis game is awesome. I really love it. I like that it's really fun for my sister and me. I like to launch rockets, and you can also change players so you don't have to fight over it..Version: 1.8

Very Good GameVery good When I got it I was playing the game for an hour The fun part is you don't need to do math till you need $.Version: 1.8

OmgBest!!!!!!!.Version: 1.7

Fun for the kids!Educational and fun - we love letting our 5 year old play it..Version: 1.4

Rocket mathI love rocket math.Version: 1.4

Lots of TopicsWhat We Liked: Rocket Math saves the rockets, medals, and money for up to five players – always a must in our large homeschooling family! You can turn the sounds and music on and off, and there are just a LOT of educational math concepts available for practice in this app. When you are earning money to build your rocket (the drill section), if you choose an incorrect answer, all of the answers disappear except for the correct one, allowing children to correct their mistakes. The fun game physics make it exciting to see your rocket launch, fall to earth, and bounce all over the place upon landing – there is always the challenge of trying to build your rocket to launch higher or stay airborne for longer for the engineering minded child. What We Didn’t Like: The text font is unconventional and a bit tricky to read, particularly for early readers, and while some of the concepts are very simple (tapping on pennies for example), the lack of spoken instruction makes this app a difficult one to use for children who aren’t yet reading independently. Overall: There are few game-based math apps that you can use to practice such a wide variety of math skills as you can with Rocket Math – and for only $0.99, it’s easy to see why this app is such a fast favorite amongst homeschooling families. If you are learning a primary level math topic, you’ll likely find one or more mission in Rocket Math to use as a fun educational supplement AND your children will have fun blasting into space while they do it. Disclosure: I received a promo code of this app to review..Version: 1.4

Great math gameA great mix of physics and math problem solving. We love this game!.Version: 1.3
