RainDrop - Rain Totals & Radar App Comments & Reviews
RainDrop - Rain Totals & Radar Positive Reviews
Noticed an issue, devs are very responsive!First of all, I want to say how easy this app is to use. It’s clean, well organized, and intuitive. I wish there was a more obvious way to see the calendar view, but otherwise it’s wonderful. I noticed rain tracking that seemed to be off a bit day to day and reached out using the built in support chat (amazing and well built also!) where I got a response that they are currently aggregating 0800 each day but are shifting to midnight to improve “daily” totals. Great news for usability and will help our kiddos weather tracking project for accuracy. Thank you RainDrop team. Keep up the amazing work..Version: 2.52.7
Mostly restored after update.I use this app for two home locations. At one location I have a professional rain gauge. I can verify the accuracy of this app close enough. At the other yard, I do not have a way to verify the actual amount of precipitation. It is this rural location that seems to lack in accuracy. One time it showed that we had rain, when we did not. It is raining right now, but the app shows that we have zero rain. This is disappointing because I use this information to decide whether I need to water my plants. Update: the update does not have the same accuracy (calls one rural location the wrong city name) and took away some features. But they did allow you to continue to see the 24 hour rainfall for free. Will help me save on watering my acreage when not necessary..Version: 3.0.13
Best Rain App Hands Down! It’s always a struggle to find apps that do what you want, let alone updated and maintained. Look no further than right here. Raindrop is legit. It gives you all the information on rainfall you need and accurately. I started very skeptical with the free version, thinking I’d be deleting it soon. I was wrong! I’m a proud paying customer supporting the excellent team behind this app. Updates are frequent and always improving functionality. So many changes in the last few months. All for the better. Great job! Download this app now!!.Version: 2.52.2
Great appI’ve been using this app for about 4 years now. I’ve been amazed at the accuracy of this thing. Occasionally it’ll be off a little, but if you’re like me, you’ve seen it raining on your neighbors pasture and you’re not getting a drop, or vice versa. If you have work going on in multiple locations, you can have a rain gauge in each location so you’ll know whether to send a crew to work or not. I highly recommend this app to anyone that has scattered farmland, pastures, construction sites, or, just nosy like me..Version: 3.1.3
Bait and switchWhen I downloaded RainDrop a few weeks ago, you were allowed to have three rain gauges in the free version. This morning when I opened the app there was a notification that the free version now only allowed two gauges. Fine, I get it, you’re trying to get subscribers, but taking away features doesn’t make users want to suddenly shell out $40-50/year. If anything it disincentivizes it. Add features that make the free users want to upgrade. Carrot vs. stick. I’m not deleting it, but I am certainly not paying to get the data I previously had access to. And now the chances of me upgrading are next to zero..Version: 2.02
Great appI am so happy that I downloaded this app and I am a paid user. I downloaded because I have one of those robot lawnmower. I don’t want it to go out after the rain so I keep an eye on the rain in the past with this app. Now with the new forecast feature I can plan when to send the lawnmower out and for how long. Lawnmower has it’s own rain sensor but once the rain stops it starts back up. I don’t want it to go back so I don’t program it to mow it it rained..Version: 2.54.2
Fairly accurateI really do like this app. It gives great historical data and at least lets me know there's been rainfall on fields I may not have otherwise known. It rained in our area last night and a few of the gauges were spot on, while others were off by .15". That's why I'd call it "fairly accurate". If there was some way in the future to add a feature that one could input actual rainfall from a real rain gauge into the system to help with deviations, that would be awesome. Just an idea from a dumb farmer. No idea if that's even a possibility. If so, I'd easily rate this 5 stars!.Version: 2.52.11
Update responded to criticism/complaints (was: Latest update eliminated free/basic option)Updated rating: it seems like the developers heard all the complaints and restored the free version with one saved location. I’ve increased my rating in appreciation for their quick responsiveness. I really liked this app. I only had one saved location, and really didn’t need more, or extended reporting. Since this latest update, I can’t use it at all unless I pay $30/year for bells & whistles I don’t need or want. Hard pass, and I won’t be recommending it anymore..Version: 3.0.10
Great but slowly getting worseWhen I first downloaded it I absolutely loved it. I loved how I could see rainfall totals for different time frames. However, first I noticed that they took away my ability to see the month calendar breakdown of daily rainfall. Now I see that I can’t see the 7 day rainfall total. It looks like they are slowly restricting what is available on the free version. It’s still a pretty good app but since I can only see rainfall totals for 72 hrs I have to write them down since weekly totals is what I use most to gauge requirements to water..Version: 3.1.28
Nice app; too expensiveThis is a cool app that gives you the projected rainfall in any area. You can add a couple rain gauges to follow, but more than that requires a subscription. Not a fan of subscriptions, but I understand sometimes the underlying infrastructure takes money to operate. However, $10/month (little cheaper with a yearly plan) is ridiculous. Given I already have apps where I can get this info, I’m not going to pay this. At $5/month, maybe but still unlikely. This seems more like a $3/month app..Version: 2.53.8
Surprise! Paywall.Updated the app, and the update turned out to remove free access (and no, of course that little detail wasn’t in the update summary). Update: it does appear they’ve fixed that issue now, and the free access is back. They’ve also removed some of the annoying in-app popups that would come up if I tapped a paid feature by accident. One star off because the totals aren’t very accurate and I can’t find any way to submit local rainfall measurements to improve it..Version: 3.0.10
An awesome rain forecast and summary appI can attest to how easy and accurate this app is. I use this for my golf rounds faithfully. It’s saved me from some serious downpours. Lately our weather has been very wet and playing golf is better dry than wet. I’ve subscribed to a couple of other weather apps but rain is not their focal point. This app covers my immediate and projected tee times without digging thru the apps’ other features. Highly recommend this app..Version: 2.53.10
JohnLove it, haven’t had it on my phone but maybe couple weeks, it’s right on with my rain gauge on the deck, when was researching for a good app this one got high reviews, they were right far as I’ve seen so far, and I don’t think I will be surprised. I don’t wish to do the weather station thing, but I wanted a good rain app. I like high tech stuff and premium tech devices. This app pleases me I’m already showing friends etc. and bragging on it. Thanks, John.Version: 1.52
Raindrop works! Easy and convenient.I’m always looking for a way to get local precipitation amounts, and Raindrops is the app I turn to first. Once I identify my location, I can get total rainfall over the last 24 hours with one button push—opening the app. With a few other taps, I can see total precip over 72 hours, MTD, or YTD, and it is quite accurate when compared to other weather stations near me. The elegance is in its simplicity..Version: 1.52
Pin dropI love this app - but I was going to make a mention to this. Is there a way you can move the pin in your map? (Potential edit) and rearrange it or relocate it) without deleting it and stuff ? I’ve shared this app with several farmer friends of mine that have also shared this. If you need a rural SC contact to advertise this app -please let me know - i would love to boast your app ( we are free farmers so we rely on rain) just as much as row crop farmers do. Thanks !!!.Version: 1.7
Matches my rain gauges quite closely!I have scattered properties and scattered rain gauges, and, because this app has history of all areas’s rainfall, it is fun to check out what is going on around my places. It is an easy to use app with customization and historical data. One of my favorite things to do is look back and see what happened, yesterday. I couldn’t ever find it anyplace, until now!.Version: 2.53.12
ScienceAccurate records of total rainfall across America are the worst scientific collection of data I've ever seen by a government agency. I live in a place where just 2 miles can bury the rainfall by 50% during the course of a year. That is not a scientific way to accumulate data, one spot in a large geographic area doesn't mean anything. Raindrop is the first entity to accurately record, rainfall totals across a geographic area..Version: 2.53.11
Perfect for Tracking Lawn WateringThis app is amazing for lawn care. I aim for about 1 inch of water per week, and this makes it incredibly easy to track rainfall so I know exactly how much I need to supplement with irrigation. The data is accurate, updates quickly, and the interface is simple to use. It’s become an essential tool for keeping my lawn healthy..Version: 2.54.31
Accurate and inconsiderateWhen i originally downloaded the app I was given 3 locations for no cost, and without any notice I was only given 2 locations for free. I would have given a 5 star review if I would have been asked which 2 of my locations I wanted to keep. But that wouldn’t get me to want upgrade now would it. Sorry I’m still using the free version, but only am using a single location..Version: 2.53.8
RainDrop App Change is a Rip OffWhen I purchased Raindrop it showed how much rain I had gotten in past week, or 3-week period. This is how I could tell when I needed to water lawn. Now all the app provides is last day, 2 days, 3 days, and Month-to-Date. No longer usable to control watering for my lawn and I suspect it also no longer supports golf courses or farmers, etc…I will not renew my subscription..Version: 3.1.14
Not completely accurate but gives a general ideaI like the app as a broad idea, but it isn’t completely accurate. We have had 3.9 inches of rain (verified by 2 different styles of rain gauges) in the last 24 hours but the app is only reporting 3.3 inches. My parents had 0.7 inches the other night but the app only registered 0.2 inches. I like that you can pinpoint locations on the map to watch though..Version: 1.7
Great toolFor something quick to get an accurate picture of your rain accumulation on farm ground or construction site, this app seems to be amazingly accurate, especially when you’re working hundreds of miles away from home ! Only other options are live webcams or LTE remote weather monitoring stations..Version: 2.51.7
ReviewFor 15 years I have lived on a south Mississippi Coastal River with substantial tidal flows and high flood potential from upstream rain. This app contains by far the most accurate and timely information available. Plus the tech support and responses to questions are always quick and accurate. Great product, great support, if just obtaining a single site information all free. Thank you Raindrop. John L Noble.Version: 2.03
Very accurate for my locationSeems accurate and matches my outside pool increase level. With a pool i have to maintain the water level within 5” for the skimmers to work properly. If too much rainfall I have to lower it so I downloaded this app to see how accurate it would be…after 3 days of rain…so far so good..Version: 2.48.15
At the farmI like how the raindrop reports how much rain I’ve had on my locations on the farm. I have found that raindrop actually records more rain than it actually is getting like the last Rain I had actual 4/10 in my gauge on my home farm. And the raindrop recorded 6/10 but for the most part, I do like the convenience of getting a report on the Rain just not as accurate as I had hoped..Version: 2.53.10
Simple.I’ve had this app for less than 30 minutes and it explains for itself. It’s exactly what I need for my farm as I have many locations that the rain totals need to be kept up on. Whether you want to know how much it rained in your backyard or how much it rained afar off, this simple and easy-to-use app will let you know..Version: 2.02
Not always accurateChange of heart. I originally gave it 1 star. When I bought this app it indicated that I was going to get 5+ inches of rain in my area. That is enough to scare anyone. All other apps indicate 1 to 2 inches. As the rain event for closer it became more accurate. Not so great on forecasting, but helpful when reviewing historical data. Thanks..Version: 2.48.15
PerfectI have often looked for information on rainfall, but it is difficult to find on weather apps and even on government websites. This app very quickly shows history for 12 hrs, 24 hrs, week, month and YTD and also compares to average. This is exactly what I have been looking for and it is very easy to use!.Version: 2.39.04
On the road again!Extremely nice way to monitor the weather over a large distance! Knowing the amount of rain in each location can tell you a lot more about the conditions for driving a long trip!.Version: 2.54.10
Annoying-Date does not start at midnightRaindrops date for rain tracking starts in the morning (not at midnight of the ACTUAL calendar date). For example, if my location gets rain at 3:00 am ET on May 1st, it’s recorded as getting rain on April 30th, because apparently RainDrop’s dates start and ends in the morning. Why is this? Just make the date be the date that starts and ends at midnight like the rest of the world please!.Version: 2.52.11
A Great Tool For Tracking Multiple Locations!Easy to use, multiple data tracking options, and I find it pretty accurate. There was a recent price increase, but I find the product lives up to it in value..Version: 2.53.7
Close but not exactI’ve given the app a try for a few weeks with more than normal rainfall in that time after a 7 month drought. So far it’s generally a half inch off on 2-3 inches comparing to multiple rain gauges setup on the property. Last week I was away for 7 days The app said 5.5 inches for the 7 days the gauges had 6.6 inches..Version: 3.1.31
Rain Gauge AccuracyWhen I first got the app, I did not have a digital rain gauge. Now that I do, I am able to see discrepancies in the rainfall accumulation. The past 24 hours our rainfall was 2.06 inches. The rain gauge out for my location reads 1.18. It is nice to know an approximate amount of rainfall for my business. But I need it to be much more accurate..Version: 2.53.11
Exactly what I was looking forUp to date rain accumulation and seems very accurate. Wundermap app just kept getting worse and worse, although the website is fine. This was quick and easy, no frills, just rainfall totals, perfect..Version: 1.7
AccuracyNever gets the amount right. Have had It show .10” and I actually received no rain. Most recent showed .33” actual was .55”. With large rainfalls, I’ve seen it be up to a half inch off. Similar to temperature apps the amount they show is a guess. It is useful for the big picture. Did I get rain or not if you’re away from your locations..Version: 2.53.24
Data confirmedI have a rain gage at one of my locations. Rain Drop has accurately reported rain fall for the past six months. I have a watershed project including two ponds and the accurate reporting and history have been extremely helpful.Version: 2.54.14
Best app for local rainfallThe app is simple..and accurate .. gives me rainfall in my exact location. Other sites will give you data from a local ( or almost local) airport that often is not accurate for your location...Version: 1.52
Doesn’t replace rain gaugesGreat idea and design but isn’t accurate. I farm and have 15 rain drop locations and it’s a guess at best. It rain about .2 over a large portion of the county and it didn’t register anything. There are free apps that will give you guesses like this one..Version: 2.52.10
Absolutely FanulousThis app is great. My farmer husband loves it. But everyone who sees it is super impressed..Version: 3.1.31
Good Potential, Not Accurate YetMy father and I were really interested in this app, we decided to do some testing before paying to add more locations. We set up multiple physical rain gauges (of different brands to be able to verify consistency) in multiple locations, one group in our farmyard, and a few other groups in our fields. We have been in a very wet weather system the past 2-3 days, and the app is off by, on average, 2" of rain under what the physical gauges are reading in 72 hrs. Great idea, would love to be able to use it as a tool on the farm, but it’s just not accurate enough. Will have to stick to physical gauges and checking weather stations across multiple platforms for now..Version: 3.1.32
Cool appBut y’all got some work to do..Version: 3.1.39
