I’m still going to try...I was recommended Cleo by a friend who loves how user friendly it is and how it can roast her, and I thought it would be great for my chronic overspending problem. I downloaded it and immediately starting having problems. First it took awhile to connect my bank account and now here’s two of the same one. Second, when adding my income (which I had to do manually, as I couldn’t choose one of the suggested ones) it was in pounds, not dollars, and it would NEVER save. Third, making my own budget (as the one Cleo suggested was just not gonna work for me) was difficult because it always said I didn’t have enough money to cover my spending. I went in vacation this month and spent a lot of money, but I wasn’t hoping on starting the budget this month. I guess I’ll try again next month and see if I have any luck. Also, when I was trying to identify bills, it was next to impossible as I have multiple iTunes bills and I couldn’t specify which ones update when or choose prices.
Suggestions: Make it easier to view which bank accounts are linked. Fix currency. Have a reset button for the entire app. Make a button when creating a budget on when it should start (like it will start when the next month comes around). Focus more on working on upkeep and not just making it yell at me. Let me manually input prices when it comes to bills.

Good, however….I actually really love this app. It’s been extremely helpful in times where I really need money. HOWEVER, I think it’s a terrible and unfair thing for them to only give you the option to receive an immediate advance straight into your credit builder card (through Cleo if you sign up for one) instead of your preferred bank account. If you don’t choose the bank account method (where it takes 3-4 days to deposit the advance into your bank account) you essentially end up paying Cleo a LOT of money. One, in repaying back your advance and two, in repaying back the advance amount again through your credit builder. Understandably, we have to pay back whatever we spend on our credit builder. The Sassy and Amazingly Helpful AppI’ve been using Cleo for a couple years now and I love it more so now then I did one day one. The loans/cash advances are super helpful. The credit builder card has helped up my credit score quite a bit over the years. It’s a fun app to use that just so happens to help you manage your money as well as loans you money when in a bind. I’ve tried similar apps in the past, but Cleo is the ONLY one that I’ve kept over the years. The only reason I did 4⭐️’s instead of 5 is bc if/when you have the credit builder card and go to get a loan, if you want it INSTANTLY, then it has to go on your credit builder card instead your regular debit card. I can send the loan to my bank account, but it will take 3-4 business days (but is also free whereas instant charges you a small percentage of whatever your loan amount is). There’s always a catchSo I’ve been using Cleo for quite some time now it’s been a little over three months and there’s a few things that I’ve noticed while using it. So for one, they don’t help you build credit they just give you cash advances but if you’re late on a payment, it reports to the credit bureau, how funny is that?
Also I wanted to point out that when you make payments on time the amount they give you gets higher so let’s say you get approved for $50 and you pay that three times every month it’ll get higher to $75-$100 and maybe more. What I’ve noticed about this was there was a time when I couldn’t pay the hundred dollars so I had to extend the payment a day ahead. Since I did that my amount that I could borrow dropped. and it went all the way back to $20 I think that’s whack considering that I’ve made every single payment on time so if you ever need it extend a payment just know that all that money that they gave you that was a high offer is going to go back to $20. Initially it was OK but when I wanted to be let out of this service, after repaying my advance/debt, they would not let me close the account for freaking days. OK. Good in theory but problems with how it actually worksSo I’ve been using for quite a while now and while it’s great in a pinch, you can only take out so much every day and if you want instant, you have to pay an instant fee every time. If it’s your due date and they try to take it out before your paycheck hits, it will be considered late. Even if you pay it back the moment your paycheck hits that day and then they’ll lower your amount.

Could be better….I’ve used this app for over a year and it was nice to have the change rounded up and saved. However, with apps like Acorn who invests that for you, there really isn’t a point anymore for this feature. This was mainly the reason why I wanted this app to begin with. Now the app itself is okay to run, it’s not so bad. What makes this 2 star worthy isn’t the app itself but the lack of options. Yea it’s funny to have an app roast your spending habits, sure, but it feels like the app keeps your savings in prison or something. You have to wait “3 business days” which I’m guessing excludes Fridays and the weekends. Meaning that if you place a withdrawal on a Wednesday it claims it won’t be in your account until Tuesday!! Too much variationI will start by saying that I was mainly interested in the advance feature on this app but I am always looking for help with budgeting, planning, and saving and This app claims to do all of that. As far as the advance feature, It started off with decent advance amounts but after 2 or 3 advances that I paid back on time or early it would drop significantly and was always fluctuating so much that I was losing a lot of money and ended up costing more than I expected on top of the subscription fees plus the costs of the advance, that is how they trap you. Like if I borrowed 120$ and paid it back on time or early with all the fees then the immediate available advance amount would be 80$ and I was in a position where I couldn’t afford to not borrow back. There was no consistency even though my paycheck is always the same amount and it got to where I just couldn’t take a chance because it would leave me so much worse off financially. Need better customer support!If everything this working fine and you are paying attention to everything it works fine. But once something messes up customer support is very rude and won’t listen to you at all if they think they are right. Multiple times I have proved them wrong about things they didn’t believe me at first. Always screen shot everything with them to have back up protection. 2 issues I am having that haven’t been resolved!!
1st: I signed up with student beans and it’s a discount of 33% off the credit builder subscription. Well it didn’t give me the discount so I emailed support the same day and at first no one had a clue about a student discount. Like I had to argue with them about it. They said it would be taken care of and put a ticket in. Well almost 3 months later still was paying full price and nothing resolved after multiple attempts to support. Then they just started to shut me down and say they can’t prove I signed up for it and blah blah. Won’t speak to me about it anymore or answer. Now my next step will be to file a complaint to the Consumers Financial Protection Bureau and the FL Attorneys General’s Office.
2nd: I had done the research study for $250 in November and completed it. Still waiting on my money for doing it. Just Another App Taking Advantage of Poor People Living Paycheck to PaycheckCleo is one of many predatory cash advance apps preying on vulnerable people who need quick funds now and then create an impossible laundry list of rules to re-borrow that money back once taken from your paycheck, and if you use apps like Cleo, you will definitely need to re borrow that money, but you will be outraged to see, if you borrow a larger amount they no problem taking your money out of your bank account all at once to pay them back but force you to wait multiple days to re borrow the original amount. And the only way not pay for ridiculous instant transfer fees (poor tax) is to wait 3-4 business days for it to hit your account. So if you re-borrowed $240 like me, not only can you not immediately request to re borrow the first amount offered, but if I were to wait all the business days and 24 waiting period to borrow the next max amount of $80 at a time to get back the $220 I would not get the full $220 I need to pay my other bills for approx. 10 business days. Approvals and theftI have been using cleao for almost a year now. I didnt really have any issues getting any advance with them even though it never went past $40. Now over the past 2 months i have been trying to get in touch with customer service and all i get is bots with a green dot telling me the same bland non descriptive answers that the bot i had to fight through to get to a “person” told me. One of the worst experiences I have ever had with an app.The app started off great and extremely useful for what I was looking for in a budgeting app. I signed up for Cleo+ and even gave them my private information for their new rollout feature to collect interest in their own savings account. I loved this app for 1-2 months and the categories and spending is great.
However - I will never recommend this app to anyone purely that their customer support is non existent. I have sent over 12+ email over a *simple* issue linking the Cleo cover that they offer and absolutely no response. I then have sent in 4+ account cancelation/deletion requests over two weeks now and not received one response back. On top of that, my account has not been deleted and is still active despite my numerous deletion attempts. They also refuse to disconnect my bank and banking information. Before you ask, yes I did email support for this and big shock they have not once responded to me. If I could stop myself from ever giving my personal information to this company I would immediately. Especially considering they will not delete my account or private financial information from their app. It’s baffling to me how they have so many great reviews with a non existent customer service team. Great until you need to withdraw moneyI have been using this app for a year and loved it. I loved that it would automatically save money but the problem with that is that, there may be multiple withdrawals in a single day just from the app going into your Cleo wallet. I once had to withdraw money from my Cleo wallet, was told that it would be deposited into my linked bank account within 3-4 day. It took 6 business days. I started saving more money since becoming pregnant at 3 weeks but my work forced me to go on medical leave at only 10 weeks pregnant. Now that I’m 15 weeks, and I have gone through all the money in my checking account and saving account, I realized that I needed to withdraw what I had in my Cleo wallet but have not been successful. I don’t understand how this is happening. I reached out to customer service and was told to do what I had already been doing multiple times. They told me to go into my wallet, and select “withdraw $amount”. I did that and it didn’t work. They told me to go to the messenger part of the app and type in “Withdraw $amount.” I did that and it also didn’t work. I have counted 13 times that I have attempted. I reached out to customer again and was told that my bank account had been disconnected. I checked and it showed that it was still connected. I clicked the link they sent to go into my accounts and reconnect my bank account. When I did that, it said that my account was already connected. Biggest Scam of 2026 & it’s being marketed everywhere!!!!This app is the biggest scam of all and shame on Apple for allowing them a platform to continue stealing. I downloaded this app back when it had a different look, and it was a drag queen speakingto you not a robot. I opened up a savings account with them and had an automatic withdrawal set up in which they would withdraw $40 from my bank account every 15 days and put it in the card. Well years passed and I forgot about the app existence until I noticed a withdrawal transaction and I remembered, and so I logged into the app again. This time around, I noticed everything in the app has changed, except for the amount of money that I’ve been saving up all these years which was in the $8500dollar range. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE OF ALL TIMEAbsolute worst customer service of all time. Have been waiting almost 2 weeks for an answer as to why I’m being charged $250 when the app never sent the advance to my account. I initially invested money into this app a few years ago and promptly forgot about it. Last month I received a letter from the bank behind Cleo, Dwolla, stating that I had unclaimed property with them and that they were going to turn it over to the state treasury office by the end of last month if I didn’t do anything. I spent weeks trying to access my funds in the app. I was able to remove my old closed bank account and add my new one but transferring my money out just kept giving me errors. The only way to do anything in this app is by speaking with the chat bot. Unfortunately it’s not programmed well at all. It doesn’t know how to handle issues and it’s next to impossible to get it to connect you to a human. You type “help” and then it gives you a series of limited options to choose from which do not help and do not connect you to help. It just sends you in circles until you give up. I called Dwolla and left 2 voicemails asking for help that went ignored. I finally was able to reach someone at Dwolla via email and they told me they “can’t speak to Cleo’s interface” and that only had access to my old closed bank account, not the one I had added to the Cleo app. How is there no one available to help with this app?? I also want to mention that Dwolla did not turn my funds over to the state last month when they stated they would. The state treasury is much easier to work with. Cleo is late.. periodWhether it’s deposits hitting my account, or Cleo canceling savings transfers from my checking account, she’s always a day late. I’m notified at minimum 12 hours after a deposit hits (usually 24 hours later). She sets an amount to transfer from checking into cleos savings wallet, and cancels it the next day because I’ve spent money. Of course I’ve spent money, it’s my checking account! Even when I have Cleo set up to round up my dollar for every card purchase I make, it isn’t instant. It is set for the following day, and she cancels these too when too much money is spent. I pay for the membership which I’m now canceling. For a (very small might I add) salary advance, it takes seven days to do another one. They call this a cool off period. However, on the 6th day after you pay your advance back, Cleo tells you to check back later that day if you want another advance... however I’d you paid Cleo back at 6 am, you really can’t get another salary advance the day she is telling you to check back. Her days are registering as hours to her.. you have to wait 24 more hours until 6 am the next FAU to get the advance. I know this is a lot of information, but people like this app for what reason?? Issue STILL not resolved & keep getting run aroundSo I’ve been using Cleo for a while now and have never EVER had any issues till this last week. And let me tell you, this is really ridiculous. This was after selecting a specific repayment date available when borrowing, and was charged early and in full. I had downloaded and signed up to Cleo in an emergency in the hopes of getting a cash advance like it advertises. Those apps are way less of a headache, their customer support is actually helpful, and they aren't nearly as strict with lending. Is Not an Honest App. BewareCleo does NOT seem like an honest app. I only downloaded as there were some reviews that seemed positive. However, I quickly tried to cancel but it is not easy to do and you cannot erase your banking information or debit card number. There info seems very misleading. They make it seem like you can receive a loan of up to $100. However that is not the case for everyone. The part that seems like a scam is that they will charge you $5.99 BEFORE they tell you how much they are willing to loan you. They should allow people to make the decision that is right for them and proceed if they want. Instead they create a hardship for people by then having to go through the hassle of canceling. I was only offered $30 max and so I would never have signed up and paid the $5.99 had I known that. To me, this is a scam move. It was, for about a day, then it became the app I most hated, taking up space on my phone until I finally deleted it. What happened? Cleo happened. The voice this app adopts is... obnoxious. It’s combative, and not in a good or helpful way. You know that mean girl who sits behind you in art history who clearly feels superior to you and always has an opinion, especially about you? That’s Cleo. Cleo is also your mom when you were a teenager trying to sneak back into the house at 4 AM. It’s a weird voice to take for an app that’s supposed to be helping us, not (constantly) chiding us, but Cleo seems to think this tone may stir some people into better managing their finances. It doesn’t. It makes us abhor the app instead, so much that every time I saw a message come in from this app, I instinctively swatted it away. Also, you need to pay a subscription (of course *eye roll*) to use some of the app’s more advanced features. If you refuse to, which I did, you basically have a snarky byatch in your pocket providing the most basic account management functions which anyone of us can perform on our own sans the added lip service. Seems like ALL bots working, no humans!I first tried this app when I first saw an ad on IG about this app doing small loans, and since I needed some extra bucks, I decided to give it a try. However, I was dumb enough to not check the reviews first. They only approved me for $30, and mind you, my bank account was already almost empty as is because I’m low income and it’s the holiday season currently. So even with a small $30, I can’t pay back right away until my next paycheck comes on the 1st. However, when they lended me the money, they only gave like a week or 2 until repayment, whereas usually loans give you a full month until repayment. They deposited on Nov 26th and was originally expecting repayment already as of Dec 6th. Yes, I got an extension, but the max they allow is 2 weeks repayment extension, and that still doesn’t give enough time until my next paycheck comes around the 1st of next month. I then tried to reach a human through contact support, but each time I request “agent”, the dumb chat bot on their app just always takes me around in circles instead of connecting to a human! Yes, I know the app is called “Cleo AI”, but I didn’t think it would be ALL AI! I thought they would still have human developers of SOME SORT! So overall, I still might not be able to repay on time because the AI bots won’t give enough time, and they can reduce my eligibility for a future loan for not repaying on time all they want because after I do eventually repay when my next check comes, I’m deleting this app because I don’t want to be financing with an app that is nothing BUT bots and no people working ever again anyway! Bugs and Subscription Scams!The app is only useful if you have the same payment method forever. Change banks, card expires and gets replaced, literally anything? Oh, it’s a “bug”! Can’t add or update payment methods! And that credit card they offer is a scam. Another “bug” in their system sends it to you with the wrong name on it, or never sends it at all, or won’t let you deposit the money but it’ll keep harassing you to do it anyway, and all those payment methods you “couldn’t add”? Oh, they have access to them now even though you can’t use them in the app! They’ll take that subscription payment from one of the other no matter how many times you reach out to their “customer service” about not being able to use the services! AVOID THIS APP! It was cool when it was young. It’s become something else entirely over the years! Even the free services, like tracking your spending, etc, have become so buggy that it’s useless now. It just gets your bills confused and asks what your rent payment was for every single month, chastises you for buying gas to go to work while it praises you for buying alcohol, etc. And the only way to win anything is to post your personal spending on social media! Liked at first but very disappointedI loved this app at first because it allowed me to get an advance and then 24 hours later get a second one. Well recently I decided to use my money I had to pay off an advance early hoping it would offer more. Well, it def offered more. However, at first I would request it and it would off $0 of that $340 amount it was offering me. Then it would say I need to connect my income account (which it already was connected) so I’d reconnect it and it would say $undef.
Well now, I try and “add” the 340 and says it’s looking into it bla bla then I get a white screen. This offer expires in 2 days and I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app many times, I’ve installed it on another phone, I’ve reached out to customer service who keeps telling me it’s my card and my card needs to be removed for it to work. Not sure how that will fix a white screen but whatever. They then said they would submit a ticket. I’ve heard nothing. I’m really irritated. There’s got to be another way to accept this offer without this stupid app. I’m very frustrated. Never ever had a problem until now. Terrible DO NOT USE!!!First of the “customer service” team is clearly unqualified, every time you speak with them you will be given scripted responses as if you are still talking to a bot.
When I spoke with customer service I was told that my account was flagged and blocked for “suspicious activity”. I have never used the app in this way and have followed all the terms abs conditions I agreed to when signing up. I reached out to customer service about this over a year ago and was told that the case would be escalated….I never heard anything back.
So after a year went by I reached out to them again three months later and was told the same thing. Still no resolution or response notifying me of the case. Three more months go by and I reach out to them again. They tell me that the case will be escalated. Then I finally receive a response from an apparent supervisor simply stating that my account will continue to be blocked for conduct purposes. Was this elaborated or explained to me? Absolutely not. Just a simple scripted message to tell me basically that Cleo doesn’t care enough to look into it and really doesn’t value their customers. Mind you the first four months of this blocking I was still being charged for their service. But on top of that you’re going to accuse me of something that is clearly an error and then act self righteous about it when I reach out to you?? Not to mention that there is no way to speak to someone over the phone, chat is the only way to contact them and they will get back to you when they feel like it. Also, no one in customer service has the power to do anything, I asked for a supervisor and was told that “they will just tell you the same thing”.
