Aviary - for Twitter Positive Reviews

Getting Better With Every UpdateI bought Aviary when it first came out. I was excited for the potential and the features that were being added. Initially it was difficult to use. The feature was there but the app was still early days and still had some rough edges. For the past month or so, however, Aviary has become my daily driver for Twitter on my phone. It runs more smoothly and the rough edges are being cleaned up with each update. On top of that the feature set is unparalleled among third party Twitter clients. There are still occasional crashes, but the developer is quick to correct. All told it’s a solid app that I only expect to get better..Version: 1.1.18

A Twitter Client With TasteWhen an app like this comes along you always expect a standard of what it does, this app far exceeds that standard. Avery really brings a whole bag of features and improvements and even small touches around the UX that brings a smile on my face. From the haptics to the “feel” of the app I really love it. For me personally I find it hard to use 3rd party apps because of the companies that treat them as second class citizens and the API have many limitations that nerf apps like this from working with a full feature set. I love supporting developers that take that leap of faith and sink god knows how many hours to make a product like this. Yes it has it faults but everything does. I give this app 5 stars because for what it is and by a small team of people and all these limitations this is a fantastic app with great experiences..Version: 1.1.6

The Apollo variant of TwitterI’ve been using Aviary as my main Twitter app for some time now, and I grew to fall in love with it. The UI which reminds me of Apollo is part of the reason why I use it as my main Twitter app the other part is just how fluid and clean the app looks from the app icon to the app itself it shows how much the developer cared about the design of the app and to make it as if Apple created the app itself! While it’s not perfect I do have issue trying to use the app on my Apple Watch Series 3 where it won’t let me log in and they’re still some things I would love to see added in future builds assuming the Twitter API allows it, but at the end of the day I plan on keeping with Aviary for all my Twitter needs and can’t wait to see where it’ll be a year from now!.Version: 1.0

Good start but needs helpI think this is a great app from a design perspective. Unfortunately there are too many bugs or things that just don’t work right. Links often don’t match what they should, and sometimes you can watch the link change in the tweet to something unrelated right before your eyes. Very odd. You may tap a link and get something completely different. If you share a tweet through iMessage, more often than not the tweet doesn’t actually share, it just sends a blank message. I can’t figure out how to view the tweet that is being retweeted. Sometimes I can tap on it and it takes me to that tweet, sometimes absolutely nothing happens. Same thing for tweets in the timeline. Sometimes tapping on a tweet takes me to a completely different tweet. And the thing that is most infuriating, when you open the app, it shows the tweets you were viewing last time, not the newest tweets. On the iPad, tapping the “Feed” tab takes you to the top, but this doesn’t work on the iPhone. You have to tap the top of the screen. Great idea for an app, but it really doesn’t work as it should. Hopefully over time it will mature. But, this was released before it was ready, leaving us paying customers as beta testers..Version: 1.0.95

Nice design, but buggy overallI purchased this app with hopes of replacing TweetBot but unfortunately failed to replace it. This app works great while it works but sometimes fails to refresh the timeline (which can be ‘fixed’ by completely restarting the app), spontaneously restarts the in-line video playback in the middle (and sometimes locks up itself in the video preview interface, with no response to the touch, keyboard input), does not sync timeline position with other iOS/macOS devices, displays wrong picture (or link) when the preview is touched in the timeline. The app does get many bug fixes and features updates (sometimes multiple times a day), but I decided to use the other app while the bugs are polished here. Developer, please fix critical bugs before implementing more features..Version: 1.0.121

Good overallThe good is that it feels like a fully native app. The buttons, layout, experience is right at home in macOS. And of course, it never interrupts your timeline with "You should follow these algorithmically-chosen people!" and other such irritants pleading for you to stay after you've read everything new. The bad is that it's not quite polished yet on the Mac. I wish I could resize the window such that I only have two columns—timeline and detail—without the search column (or whatever column of your choosing) permanently displayed. I wish the media player worked at all. I also wish the window titlebar wasn't there and the columns were full-height, like Mail or Messages. I wish the app actually synced between my Mac and my iPhone, but I'm used to that not happening..Version: 1.0.100

Gap loading is acting oddWhenever I click to load tweets in a gap, my timeline always go back at least twenty tweets. There are times when I open the app after a while and it goes right to the top of the timeline. I’d love to see some consistency and better loading here. It would also be nice to be able to mute a word, client, or hashtag right from a tweet. Right now, filters are cumbersome and broken, I.e,. I can have a word filter set up and it doesn’t actually filter those things..Version: 1.0.99

I want to love this app so much…The customization of the app easily makes it the best 3rd party client on iOS. However, this app, across ALL platforms, needs some serious improvements before it’s price is justified for the average Twitter user. Some Suggestions & Criticisms: -There is no jump to top button, holding the “new tweet counter” to jump to the top would be a non intrusive fix. -Columns are horrible, on EVERY platform, they’re a horrible idea. They don’t size properly, they themselves are off center, and they ruin the look of the tweet by pushing everything off to the side. -Trending tab is mostly wrong and useless, being able to customize what appears here using filters would be better than a preset group of filters. -Filters tab is basic and could be utilized more effectively. -There is no reason for ‘Muted’ to be its own section, it should be part of Filters or profile settings. -*Link preview doesn’t work half the time, though my understanding is that this is an API issue and can’t be fixed. Overall the app is on a very good trajectory, and I’m very excited to see how it progresses even more!.Version: 1.1.44

Revised review!I’ll leave my initial review down below, but I stuck with it, and the developer has really improved the app. Widgets are working great. I don’t really use it for most of the other features, I mainly use the widget on my home screen and select it when a new tweet arrives. Does what I want it to do. This app tries to do waaay too much. All I want is to see my feed in a widget, and it can’t do that—telling me to open the app and i can see my feed. The app is open, nothing is showing up. I’ve tried restarting my phone, reinstalling the app, logging in again to my Twitter feed, nada. Sorry I wasted 4 bucks on this app..Version: 1.0.129

Good and more1. The language support indicates that the application supports Chinese, but it still does not support it so far. I hope to fix this problem as soon as possible. 2. The tweet translation function is very good. I hope to set the automatic translation of global tweets, or add translation options in the left or right swipe. 3. There is not an intuitive visual feedback when sending a tweet. I don't know whether I sent it successfully or not. 4. When multi-column layout on ipad, every time you open the application, the left column is there, you need to manually slide left, hoping to remember the last layout settings. 5. Regardless of whether it is a picture or a video, it is cropped at the same ratio. I hope to display the original ratio (especially the video). The click logic of the video hopes to refer to the full-screen playback of the official client. The picture uses the waterfall stream or the official client. 6. Poor fluency (compared to the smoothness when using appstore), and sometimes crashes (tweet, pull-down refresh, horizontal and vertical screen (ipad), left swipe left sidebar, etc.).Version: 1.0.90

Nice design, lots of bugsI’ve used Tweetbot for years, as I felt it was the best visible Twitter experience. That is, until Aviary came along. I love how it looks on the ipad with the different columns. That being said, as other reviewers have noted, the app is unfortunately very buggy. Quite often, searches on Twitter lead to no results. Or, for example, I click on a post and none of the replies come up. In addition, there are plenty of links that don’t work when you click on them. I know it’s not a link issue because when i go to Tweetbot, they work. So, if you want reliability and full use of Twitter, for now, look elsewhere. However, if you want the best Twitter experience on the ipad, look no further..Version: 1.0.100

A great start but needs some work stillI’ve been using the app since it was in beta, it was super promising off the bat so I grabbed it and have stuck with it for a while now. There are some issues tho. The feed is still super laggy and sometimes images just never load. The messages rarely ever work, they sometimes just never send or never load in the first place. Along with not loading replies often do not load and same goes for looking at a thread. Overall it’s a good start to a Twitter client, I love the customization level and the layout of the app. I just wish it worked better as a Twitter client. I can’t wait to see the app get improved as time goes on. Great job!.Version: 1.0.109

Nice Twitter app, seems to keep improving!I’ve been using Tweetbot for my iOS Twitter app for a few years now, and decided to give this app (Aviary) a try after reading on Twitter that it’s on sale. Thought it would be nice to use a different app for perhaps a different experience, and with the lower sale price, I decided to take the plunge and give it a try. So far I do like it, and I especially like the different app icon choices. Have noticed some glitches here and there, but little by little they seem to be disappearing or getting resolved by the attentive developer! 👍.Version: 1.0.91

Rapidly improvingThe change log on the daily(!) updates are looong and my complaints (refresh and threading) from two versions ago, which was two days ago, have already been met. Bumped from 2 to 3 stars. I’m glad I stuck with it. Threading is there but still iffy. Sometimes it threads, sometimes it doesn’t, and I don’t know if it’s just really slow or if it stopped working. Manual refresh is also iffy. Head fo head comparison with twitterrific, which is solid in both. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Not ready for prime time. I’m going to stick with it because the developer is improving it daily. Future five star app, I hope. Best feature: multiple columns..Version: 1.0.12

Great iPadOS AppEDIT: Looks like this has been fixed. Had to update! :) This is a great app, don't get me wrong, but there is one problem that's been bugging me. First, this bug is on the iPadOS app. So, whenever I click a tweet that has an image/video in it, it displays the image, obviously, but when I click another tweet that doesn't have an image/video, it still shows the previous media file from the last tweet I clicked. The image blocks the tweet actions, like liking, retweeting, etc. That's the only problem I have, otherwise, great app!.Version: 1.0.40

Still BuggySo I downloaded the App after quite a while today and right off had to encounter several bugs and glitches. First bug I encountered was the authentication. I signed in with my Twitter account nothing happened I signed in again and the App crashed. Finally after the 3rd try I was able to sign in. Multi container scrolling is very buggy It keeps dragging the container to the left and I have to remove my finger and scroll again. Tweet details are a hit and miss sometimes it loads the replies sometimes it doesn’t. Navigation is buggy too, changing the tint to primary makes the text disappear. Also clicking the navigation does nothing I expected it to scroll to the top of the feed. Tab mode UX is also poor there’s no padding on the either sides the content is stretched makes it impossible to read anything. The App still has a long way to go to become even remotely accessible and useable..Version: 1.1.7

Very Clean iOS Focused Twitter ClientI really like apps that make an effort to look like a part of the iOS ecosystem and this app does it really well. Really like the minimalist approach. The stock Twitter app is full of ads, timeline “features”, etc. Aviary focuses on user content and only shows relevant info when needed...you know, like tweets! One of my favorite apps for Reddit is Apollo and Aviary has a very similar feel. Can’t wait to see what future updates bring to the experience! Great job!.Version: 1.0

Fantastic Twitter AppThis is a very well made and modern Twitter client, which has much fantastic functionality. It takes advantage of many iOS features, and feels extremely natural for the system, much like the Apollo Reddit client. It also takes advantage of many Twitter features, and has a lot that I haven’t seen in other clients, including a ridiculous amount of customization options. Like Apollo, the developer is extremely active, issuing fixes and new features almost daily in response to feedback. The one feature that I don’t believe it has at the time of writing this (unless I missed it) is the ability to sync the timeline position between devices via iCloud. I could really use this feature as I go between my iPhone and iPad during the day. Can’t wait for the Mac app! (C’mon, Apple!).Version: 1.0.68

Great design but functionality not thereThe design is beautiful and pleasure to look at. It fits the iOS aesthetically better than other apps out there. However, functionality is lacking. Scrolling through tweets is choppy and lets me know there is a bug of some sort. It takes ~15 seconds for tweets to load in the timeline vs other Twitter apps that load significantly faster. Timeline sync between iPad and iPhone does not work even though iCloud is on. I really want to use this app but the functionality is preventing me from doing so..Version: 1.0.93

Wow very impressedWow I am truly impressed with this app is so clean and smooth I really like it a lot and does what I want it to do. It’s worth the money. Sometimes you have to pay for what you want and all the issues in the other reviews have been fixed from what I am seeing while using this app. It’s a great app thank you for making a clean and smooth app for Twitter lovers. Thank you again for an awesome application I really like this app a lot..Version: 1.0.43

Not sure how this was ready for launchI gave the app 3 stars because of its potential and UI, but I'm not sure how this was ready for primetime. Often either my timeline doesn't load or widgets don't. Restarting / Reinstalling doesn't work either. It's seemingly random. It feels like a beta Furthermore, the selection wheel to select a trending location is painful with no search option. I'd love multiple trends too. The app is beautiful and has loads of potential, but it's not ready yet. I wanted to use this along with the official app but it isn't worth $5..Version: 1.0.25

Well done!Overall, I love this app. It truly feels like it was made for iOS 14! Small bugs I’ve noticed: a tweet will sometimes have the incorrect contact inside the tweet on the timeline when compared to the regular Twitter app. I saw a tweet from one of my favorites follows that seemed odd so I went to the regular native Twitter app to check things and the content was wrong and from another Twitter profile. Just a heads up. Otherwise, I appreciate the continued optimization you’re doing here!.Version: 1.0.52

The perfect twitter app that gets better every dayAs the twitter app gets more bloated, this app keeps twitter true to its roots. An excellent, native iOS feeling, lightweight and has everything I need. It’s early days are becoming the past as constant updates and feature additions further polish an already great app into one of my favorite apps. Keep up the good work! I would love to see a macOS version in the future.... but that’s me being greedy 😂.Version: 1.0.92

Absolutely great appI have been using Aviary for a while now and I just want to say that I have not had any issues with the app. It is well-designed, easy to use, and the developer is extremely helpful with any feedback. Don’t blindly believe the negative reviews. A lot of the complaints I have seen are things that the dev has NO CONTROL over, like the Twitter API. Overall, amazing app and I would fully recommend it..Version: 1.0.68

Almost there...This app has significantly improved since I first downloaded it a month or so ago. A couple of features and it will be among the best. - Add double tap home icon to go to first read tweet then double tap again to go to most current unread tweets. Similar to other apps. - Videos should auto play in portrait or landscape when scrolling through timeline. Currently they only auto play in landscape..Version: 1.0.82

Dark Mode too dark!My only gripe is that the dark mode is too dark even w reduced contrast. Please give us more themes for main app! Everything is else is beautifully designed and works great. Thanks for all the hard work. Btw this dude’s updates are relentless and I kind of love it. No other app I’ve ever had on my phone has updated as often w as much new stuff w every one as Aviary. Dev, please get some rest!.Version: 1.0.18

I want to like itI really want to like this app as it is a modern client with the right design goals. However, the current experience is buggy and has bad performance. For example, you cannot easily log into multiple accounts without logging out in the browser, scrolling is often laggy, the app crashes from time to time, and the app east 25% of my CPU all the time. For now, I will stick with Tweetdeck but I hope this app can catch up. It's a new app some hiccups are expected..Version: 1.0.91

BravoThe functionality Shihab is putting in this app is amazing. Well thought out. There are still bugs I experience (like losing all my saved tweets) but there is active development going on so I have to give dev time. I am coming from Tweetbot so UX still feels different for now but I’m sure I’ll get with the program. Aviary is a formidable twitter client. Other devs have been put on notice. To infinity & beyond!.Version: 1.0.40

Major Bug**UPDATE** this problem appears to be fixed. This would get five stars if it weren’t for the fact that when I open the app my feed is a day old. The top of the list shows tweets from 23 hours ago. It seems to sometimes update and show current tweets, but it’s usually just stuck on tweets from yesterday and earlier..Version: 1.0.151

Would be my main Twitter app if it did one thing differently. This is Avery clean Twitter app and I would love for this to be my main Twitter app. The only issue I have is when someone posts a link it doesn’t show the preview thumbnail. It will show it if you click on the tweet for more information though. An example of this is on the 9to5 Mac Twitter account. They post a lot of links and I can’t see any preview unless I click on the tweet..Version: 1.0.43

Great App with Great PotentialThis twitter client will feel the most at home with iOS. It’s beautiful, has the right design language, and has got some clever features like swiping on a tweet to reveal tools to interact. This app gets 4 stars instead of 5 because it’s not perfect and some of the UX is a little confusing. It will get better. I’ve already spoken with the developer with feedback and his responses made me confident this app will get to 5 stars in no time..Version: 1.0

Continues to improveGetting better and better. Far fewer crashes. Now using it as my main Twitter client. Strongly suggest those using it to tip the developer. The amazing rate of development of this app continues. Things that it needs to become my main Twitter client. 1. Ability to see further back in tweet history. 2. Ability to quickly get to the furthest back tweet. 3. It needs to remember the state of the app when I return..Version: 1.1.41

Fantastic, but….Aviary has issues with loading comments for tweets, and I can’t properly see threads. For the iPad version, can we have the ability to remove/move columns? There are some columns that i can’t get rid of/change like the Metions/RTs/Quotes one. Also, is there a reason why we can’t see the comment count for tweets where the reply/like/retweet buttons are?.Version: 1.1.1

Developer Working Hard to Work in Twitter EnvironmentFor those who don’t know it, Twitter does not allow outside apps to perform certain actions. Aviary does a great job of working around many of these issues and the developer is constantly working to make it better! He is also quick to respond to questions and comments. Give it a chance!.Version: 1.0.68

Easily the best Twitter app for iOS 14I’ve been bored of Tweetbot and other Twitter apps for years and had recently gone back to the original Twitter app but really hated the ads. What Aviary has accomplished in just a few months in the middle of a pandemic is one of the most beautiful interfaces I’ve ever seen; widgets abound, the interface is fluid and casual, and the app is just downright fantastic. Thanks for an amazing app!.Version: 1.0

BuggyWrote and submitted a tweet. Shows on my profile but doesn’t show on my feed. Dragged down to refresh, still nothing. Quit and restart app, still nothing. Official app shows the tweet as expected. Edit: well, another day, another update to the app. Just remember that this is using people’s data, dude. How about bulking up the fixes and giving it just a *little* more time between releases so we don’t need to eat our bowl of rice one grain at a time?.Version: 1.0.130

Most Bugs Have Been Fixed. Still Missing Gap DetectionThank you for fixing the major bugs over these last few updates. One thing that I still hope to see, is the ability to load more than 200 tweets at a time, so that there aren’t any tweets missing in the timeline. I’ve used other apps that are able to load around ~750 tweets, using gap detection, so hopefully that can be done with Aviary as well..Version: 1.0.121

Fantastic Twitter ClientI used to feel like a caveman dragging my knuckles along the ground using Twitterific, then I came across Aviary and my Twitter experience took flight. The App is beautiful and intuitive and offers great customization with a great degree of elegance and refinement. If you’re looking for the best Twitter experience on iOS then your search is over, you’ve found it..Version: 1.0

Regretting itDefinitely not worth the purchase as of me writing this review. The settings are constantly resetting so I have to keep doing them over, app crashes 50% of the time, had to uninstall and reinstall cause the app was stuck on the faceid loading screen. Has potential, but not quite there yet. Definitely love all of the different settings and features but for now, I’m gonna stick to the default Twitter app..Version: 1.1.43

Getting BetterGlad the lists bug was finally fixed. Would be good though to have the option on the mac/ipad version to have fewer columns. Multiple columns do not help me focus at all..Version: 1.1.1

IPhone version is awesome!! Need works on iPadOne of the best Twitter app on iPhone. But experience on iPad version seems a little odd (I’m on 11” iPad Pro). Neither views on iPad looks right.Version: 1.1.11

BuggyIt lags when swiping, and the image display is always incomplete..Version: 1.1.44

Changed how I use Twitter, in an amazing wayThis is one of my absolute favorite apps on my phone, the beautiful design and simplicity make it a treat to use compared to the stock twitter app. I honestly couldn’t recommend it enough, keep up the amazing work!.Version: 1.1.44

Something Happened!I was enjoying this app, on my iPad Pro, for a while now however, there are issues which are forcing me to consider another solution: - it does crash fairly often but recovers fine - annoyingly, especially at the start of the day, it doesn’t sync to the latest tweet in my feed. Starting another twitter app dfixes this immediately! - multi-column view now is an issue. It starts in multi view then quickly changes to one column view. Quitting and restarting fixes the issue but only for a short time The last issue is important to me and unless fixed soon I will move to another app. Too bad..Version: 1.1.35

Best version to date! The app is fast and the multi column feature really brings it together on the ipad!.Version: 1.1.2

Off to a great startFor an app that’s only launched recently it is amazingly well featured and looks great. Would like to see number of retweets, comments, and likes displayed on the tweet itself, instead of having to click it..Version: 1.0.12

Getting betterThis app used to contain bugs and keep crashing. At times, it was almost unusable. But, things have improved a lot now. Giving it a 5 star to bring up its average rating. 😊 Keep it up, dev!.Version: 1.0.146

Great appGreat Twitter app. It’s so customizable. I highly recommend..Version: 1.0.133

Tons of support latelyThis is by far the best looking twitter client and content manager. The only problem was/ is bugs, but the devs have been putting out constant updates. Ya did good..Version: 1.0.126

Keep having crash issuesAs beautiful as this app is, I have to keep using Twitter in Firefox since the app keeps crashing and I never can see notifs that I have a like/mention, etc. I believe in this app but man, I am getting impatient..Version: 1.0.102

Great App!I love the app so much, keep up the good work! 👍.Version: 1.0.50

Buggy, incomplete experienceDMs don’t work, you cannot send tweets as DM inside the app. Retweet button doesn’t let you quote tweets, you cannot decide what algorithm to use. Tweets occasionally don’t show up. Sometimes I would tweet something from one account and will apper as my other account tweeted it. The design, feel and customization levels of the app are amazing but due to its limitations, it’s a little inconvenient to use..Version: 1.0.45

Updates too oftenWhich means the developer cares and have a vision to make the app as perfect as possible. anyway, best Twitter client I tried, and I tried a lot.Version: 1.0.22
