New video/GIF player overlay is distracting – please let controls disappear completelyWhen I tap the screen while watching a video or GIF in Telegram to hide the playback controls (pause, 5-second skip buttons), they no longer disappear fully. Instead, they fade into a semi-transparent, glossy overlay that stays visible over the entire screen. This glossy effect makes the video or GIF harder to view clearly — especially in darker scenes or when I just want a clean, immersive fullscreen experience. The previous behavior was much better: one tap and the controls would vanish completely, leaving nothing but the media itself. I understand Telegram has been experimenting with more transparent / “Liquid Glass” style elements in the recent updates, but in the video player it feels like a step backward. Not private enoughI like most of the features of this app (text, call, group chats, forwarding messages and sending, etc) I also like how you can build group chats with people that are in your contacts as well as include people from other people who may not necessarily be a contact but connected to someone else in the chat. I gave this app a 3 instead of a 5 because of its privacy settings. I didn’t like the fact that as soon as i joined the whole “telegram world” so to speak gets an alert that I joined. Your settings default to that so there’s no way to control that going on. I know this because immediately after I joined, I get a message from someone (in my contacts) that I had not spoken to in ages! I completely forgot this person was in my contacts. I received this message before I could even figure out the features of the app work, before I could figure out how it works, and even before I configure the settings the way I wanted them. That was very uncomfortable. Also, I don’t like that the privacy settings are not completely private. For instance I changed my privacy settings for “Last seen online” to “Nobody”. Meaning nobody should see when I was online. However, that’s not the case. If you select “Nobody” as opposed to Everybody or My contacts, the default setting next to your name for last seen online defaults to “Recently”. Well to me that isn’t private. No that isn’t given the actual time stamp, but that is still letting All of your contacts know that you were “recently” on telegram. New UI after updateI think previous UI before this last update seemed kind of better and more simple and efficient and integrated with the environment of the app, now to be honest it can seem kind of distracting at times or interfere with the content of app and what you want to read, like floating on screen and also as for the colors in previous ui, the navigation and tab bar or that mute/unmute button below the page seemed integrated and consistent with the rest of screen as for the color as well as their position, and also in previous UI, shape of tab bar and Navigation and tab bar below the screen seemed more fine and fit and detailed now it can seem kind of less fine and unfit, like kind of thicker, plus I think the color of these elements seemed better in previous ui than now which has got grey. Scammer’s ParadisePositives: Telegram had some positive features. You can start a secret chat with someone. There’s freedom of speech in that app and you can say politically incorrect things without getting banned. You can post content which are deemed offensive. That’s why I like Telegram. I do miss the app, though. Unfortunately, I can’t go back, not after what happened to me. Negatives: I was catfished by a scammer. The problem with Telegram is that it doesn’t have a report feature. I reported the scammer via using Yahoo mail, Gmail, and even messaged notoscam. Sadly, Telegram wouldn’t do anything about it. I had to delete my account, and deleted the app itself because of how persistent and dangerous the scammer is. The scammer is using a photo of an actual doctor and is pretending to be him. Potential scam, employee scamHey folks, be careful who you talk to on this app. I was a victim of potential employment scam/fraud. An entity pretended to be a part of a corporation only to be a lonely hacker who wanted my information. Had a check bounced and had it reported, but they could never track it. They were never able to find the source of the hack/scam. And they made themselves seem very believable. Even a fabricated interview process that felt completely real. It’s that bad, folks. Before you go on here, think about the places you applied to and what information you gave out. I know for me I only gave name address and number, but nothing more. But that is still enough. They can access your information at the click of a button. It’s that bad. Be safe folks. I’m still keeping an eye out for hackers and I’m content with my real job that doesn’t scam people. Video callingIn this day and age video calling is a must with every app such as Telegram, and lack of it unnecessarily opens the door for the competition. Despite my desire to solely use Telegram to connect with friends & family all over the world, I’m having to use other apps, because of the lack of this feature in this app, and I’m sure this is the case for most of its other users. I’d give this app 4 stars if it had the video calling feature, and 5 if it wasn’t for some other malfunctions I come across every now and then, such as, all of a sudden losing all my communications with a contact from the beginning till a random date, or altogether till the present! This has happened to me several times with different contacts, so I highly recommend backing your communications up if they’re important to you. So far so good 😎I am on a mission to get as many people away from the tentacles of Zuckerboss as possible. Have managed to get a few dozens of people to switch from whatsflop to this better platform. The only complain I get is that this does not have status, which apparently social media junkies can’t live without 🤦🏻‍♂️ Another complain is that the app freezes or acts slow in low connection spots some thing those users of whatsflop supposedly didn’t deal with it. Hopefully these things will be addressed and improved/fixed. I know this is still evolving and growing so I am hopeful it would become the dominant messaging platform and I will contribute to that by getting people to jump ship. Telegram ReviewI enjoy using the app much more than any other social media messaging platform. The ability to create group chats, call people, and customizable features in addition to a UI that is seamless with other devices, and doesn't stutter is a treat. But, in some areas telegram falls short due to lack of video messaging, the traffic seems to be lower than other platforms, and searching for groups isn't as easy as some may like it to be. Regardless, a video chat feature similar to instagrams live mode would be perfect for the group chats. If possible maybe even allowing features thats on discord to be on the app, better bots would be a plus that telegram makes themselves rather than relying on other people bots. Most bots seem to not work as well as the competition. Overall its a great 1 v 1 app, but apps such as WhatsApp or instagrams video-calling is superior, and discords bots and chat customization is superior. Suggestion for improvementWhen I scroll the files/links shared with someone, and this person sends me a message, I do not receive the notification, and the message is considered as read like being within the chat. (which I actually am, but in another tab) I checked that on Windows, Linux and different Apple devices. It is not the issue on tablets, as the display is separated, neither on desktops, if user widens the window so that the chat and files/links are present concurrently. However on cellphone devices only chat or files/links tab can be displayed at a time. This app is amazing!This is the #1 messenger I use. It’s very comfortable, feels premium, secure, fast, etc. This is literally like a whole internet in 1 messenger. Want to check important news? No problem, there are like thousands of channels. Want to watch videos or some media? Millions of stuff available. Or maybe you just want to listen to music, see the life of your favorite content creator? They are all there. Calls, and video calls are high quality, and I enjoy this app VERY much. But sometimes you have to be cautious as well as on the whole internet: there are scammers, and they exist. Also, before you get the app, there are a lot of Russians, and this app is popular among Slavic countries, so keep that in mind. Great app!I love it. I may sound like someone who’s working in Telegram but I don’t. I am just a user for several years since its first release and know the app quite well. The best app in its category. Have lots of great features that other apps can only dream about. In every aspect it is great, privacy, features and... Telegram is kind of like a world, you can create public and private groups and channels to share content. Sometimes I spend hours in different channels, there are lots of great news, recreational and… channels. The share feature is also a breeze. unlike whatsapp you don't need to download a file and then upload it for sharing (yeah! this is why whatsapp is so slow on sharing), Telegram just share the content with the name of its original uploader, and you can easily click and checkout the channel (if it was shared from a channel) or contact the user. The other unique feature is, it is a free cloud space for users. you can upload your photos, videos and other documents to your personal “saved messages” and they never get deleted (unlike whatsapp). Easily the best messaging appI’ve used telegram for a while now and have enjoyed its speed, customization, and stickers. I think a cool feature telegram should have, in addition to custom stickers, is custom Emojis. Apps like Discord allow you to create your own custom emojis in their servers (and use them anywhere with a subscription...), but I feel like telegram could be ahead of other messaging apps that have custom emojis by implementing it too. I feel like it wouldn’t be too hard to do (There’s already custom stickers, emojis would essentially be the same thing but smaller and could be used IN messages.) And would allow us to express ourselves in even more fun ways, without having to take up 10% of the screen with a sticker (Not that stickers are bad!), and also have them organized in packs like stickers are. If I were to give another suggestion it would be the ability for group chats to be organized into categories like you can in Discord. You can create custom categories, for example “General Chat,” “Art Discussion,” “Gaming Chat,” Etc. So that people can keep conversation relevant and extra organized within the group. Finally, I just want to mention one minor bug I have with telegram, it doesn’t happen often but it happens randomly. When I unlock my phone and telegram was launched, telegram will be stuck on “Updating...” forever. Closing and reopening the app often fixes this (Not ALWAYS, but mostly). Not fully accessible using voice OverI am visually impaired, and I use Voice Over to navigate through the various features on my IPhone 8. I am using the most current version of IOS 13. I can only use Voice Over when listening to a single contact (I can activate the play button). But when I try to activate the play button when chatting within a group, Voice Over does not work. Instead, I have to turn Voice Over off and activate play like a user who is sighted. I fortunately have enough vision to do this, but a blind or visually impaired person with less or no vision would not be able to perform the work around I have found. I have tried to report this several times, and I have received no feedback at all. I find that to be very discouraging. I know that some blind useds are experiencing the same problem while others are not, so it is not an across the board problem. Great App, Two Bothersome GlitchesTelegram is for sure a great and secure app to use to talk with your friends, but also to join other groups and communities where articles/links may be shared and discussed. Their “sticker-pack” and sticker creation system are also very useful and fun for groups. Two glitches I keep on noticing that are bothersome and I really hope the Telegram team fix, are the following: 1. Occasionally, the feature that allows you to go back and “auto-scroll” to previous messages that had been “reacted to” by other users will glitch out, and you will not be able to click the “heart” icon that allows you to autoscroll back up. This is annoying because when the heart icon doesn’t work as a clickable button, you are forced to manually scroll and scroll until you see the message(s) that had been reacted to. I have asked my friends as well whether they have been experiencing this issue, and they agreed that around 50% of the time the button just doesn’t work. I have no idea why this is the case technically speaking but it should be an easy fix! 2. Another glitch that commonly occurs, is when you send a GIF and on your end it displays a “Play” button as if it’s an mp4 video, whereas GIFs are typically meant to display automatically without being clicked on. I have also asked my friends about this and they’ve been experiencing this issue too. For everyone else the GIF displays normally and automatically, but for the sender, it displays a play button, forcing the use to click the GIF to see it. Love the app but, needs improvementsSo this app is definitely a good app there’s many features I enjoy like having a private group for menu’s etc. The main issue I’ve ran into is the fact that once you get over 100 members you’re no longer able to see the list of people that view your messages or updates to your group. There’s an option to hide your list on the settings once you reach 100 members but, there’s no point in having that option if they automatically disappear after you get 101 members or more. What WhatsApp wishes it wasPretty much everything WhatsApp has and more. Not to mention, actually good security—unlike WhatsApp. End to end encryption where the keys are kept on your device. If you do some research, Telegram’s security has been publicly audited by real world events. I work in cyber sec and use Telegram as my default messenger for everything. Whether it’s sending large files (seriously, I’ve sent files over a gigabyte) to joining a variety of channels/groups. I honestly believe Telegram could be the next IRC chat (I get all my security and tech news and updates from telegram channels faster than news sites or rss). Privacy breachedI enjoy this app overall, but they have breached my privacy. My legal name is not on my profile, all my settings are private, & I have not allowed it to be shared with my contacts…yet somehow a handy man that did some work for me & must have my number saved on his phone was sent a message that I was on telegram & click here to start chatting. EhThe app is great except it logs me out like 90% of the time and while this wasn’t a problem at first, you can only have so many clients open at the same time so when I would open the app from the app instead of just reopening the same window (which like 25% of the time it would log me out anyway) using the home button (I’m on an iPhone) to go back to the chat bc I’m lazy or whatever anyway basically you can only open so many clients at a time and eventually there’s a cap to how many you could open so every time I logged in it was opening a new client (in its coding? I don’t know there was always only one open on my phone but when I would check to see how many clients were open on “other devices” there would be a list of every time I had been kicked and logged back in on the same device) so here I am exceeding the limit of clients because the coding is counting every single new log in as a completely new device instead of the same device over and over. In the end, it takes 12 hours for telegram to automatically end the last client logged into. Oh and the clock resets every time you try to log in. Another thing it won’t let me send anything through telegram suddenly? It was working perfectly before but it just freezes the app I’m sending from and logs me out of my current telegram client. Over all I think that Telegram could be a wonderful app but with the current problems I’m having, I can’t even use it so it’s kind of pointless? An app that revolves around add revenueThis app use to be able to give you the option to see explicit content on a normal basis. Now however? I’m not able to see, receive or even visit the sites where these pictures come from. There’s no need for me to have to go to the desktop version of the app only to change a few settings that can be changed with a single button. The amount of neglect towards the enjoyment of the actual messaging system is worse than Kik. But at least Kik has updates that involve improving the experience of the users. I am shocked that when I got hacked the hacker had the upper hand without every using SMS or email to get into the account. Glitchy. No privacy.Every time I get a new phone, telegram syncs my contacts even though I distinctly select for it not to. I realized this because I had to get two new phones within one week and it happened both times with Telegram. Serious voiceover in compatibilityI am a blind voiceover user and have been using Telegram for years. It’s always had a few bugs but it never was too bad. Huge Privacy ConcernTelegram notified one of my contacts that I downloaded the app. I specifically and deliberately did not allow Telegram to access any of my contacts. “Raise to listen” is horrible, and circle videos force auto playTelegram does a lot of things right, but its total lack of customization of usability settings isn’t one of them. “Raise to listen“ is forced on. Any random time something comes close to your phone, it decides you’ve raised it to your head and starts a voice recording. There’s a secret debug menu (not mentioned anywhere) accessed by tapping “settings” 10 times, but even turning it off there doesn’t fix it. This breaks when more since circle videos autoplay — a conversation with them means you’ll constantly be going back to watch someone’s that you missed, and then *your* video after will play. Possibly at double their volume. And you’ll have to stop it manually, every single time. But what’s worse is that if any circle video is paused, and there’s play/pause on the top bar, then raise to listen will override and play *no matter what*. Even if you have it forced off in the secret debug menu. For every hour of circle video conversation, this means manually stopping autoplay and having to hit the little X literally hundreds of times just to make your own recordings not play loudly at you, and your phone’s sensor not delete what you were recording because a cat got too close to your phone and it decided it was your ear. However, if you utilize a chat room, it won’t allow you to private message anyone you haven’t already spoken with. Media autosave is broken since iOS 12 release and calls dropping every few minHey dev team, the auto save feature for all media (images specifically) isn’t working since I updated to publicly available ios 12. It worked perfectly on all betas of iOS 12 and stable versions of previous iOS but now it became very frustrating as I expected to see all images received to be in photo gallery but aren’t being saved for some reason. I tried reinstalling both Telegram and iOS, tested telegram on 3 different iPhones but nothing seem to be helpful in this case. Media auto save is enabled in settings and app has access to photos so no permission issues as far as I understand. I also sent a message to app support few weeks ago and never head back from them so this is the last step before I start looking for alternatives. Another big issue is calls quality/reliability. Every time I call someone after few min I hear beeps that indicate lost/poor network, then I can hear other party again but they can’t hear me or call just drops after 15-20 seconds. I didn’t want stories. I didn’t want any of the blockchain grifts (especially not after the SEC told Telegram to stop it). I didn’t want NFT usernames. I didn’t want “gifts.” I don’t want to put in my birthday so that it can nag all my friends to buy me a “gift.” And I don’t want generative AI. What I do want is a fast, secure, and reliable messenger application with stickers, end-to-end encryption, and attention to details like accessibility and power usage. Telegram isn’t fast any more, it’s less and less reliable, it still hasn’t made end-to-end encryption happen outside of secret chats, it’s a battery hog, and it frequently breaks VoiceOver. Oh, and I constantly get scam DMs from folks trying to convince me to send them money. Signal has stickers now, and it has always been end-to-end encrypted.
