Lingvano - Learn Sign Language App Comments & Reviews

Lingvano - Learn Sign Language Positive Reviews

Great appWorth the price. My plug and reminder, you are paying for Deaf individuals work compensation which is a big deal. Second, I have been taking classes with people in my local ASL Deaf cohort and decided to try this out to support my receptive and maintenance skills. It teaches features of sign, fingerspelling and builds in a very visual way that Deaf people teach as well as uses ASL grammar which, as a hearing person has been the biggest learning curve since the structure is different and using this app helps to demonstrate that and break it down in an interactive way. This is learning a second language, it doesn’t follow English grammatical rules, so if you become frustrated, yes, you’re learning a different language not just a visual version of What you speak. Looking through the upcoming courses and the concepts that this app will teach me in the future, I am excited to use this app as a support as I continue to interact with my local community and develop my ability to effectively communicate with them. Additionally, the dictionary tool is absolutely amazing and I love looking up a word I haven’t gotten to that I don’t already know. Yes, over the year it may feel pricey to some, but remember, you are compensating paying real people and this will help you to engage with real people in the world. The perspective of that can shift that this really is pretty small relative to the impact you can have on others..Version: 2.8.4

Not just ASL. Deaf culture, too!I almost never take the time to write reviews, but this app is fabulous. I am on a 43 day streak, and I am so delighted with my progress. For context, I spent some time in deaf circles as a child, more than 40 years ago, but have had almost no ASL practice since then. In just a few entertaining minutes a day, this app has helped me regain everything I once knew and then some. It starts out deceptively easy, but has a phenomenal depth of both ASL (including grammar!) and Deaf culture. I am so glad that I got a year subscription. I often do a lesson first thing in the morning, but if I forget, it gently reminds me not to break my streak come afternoon. My progress has been such that, last weekend, I felt confident enough to show up at a deaf gathering in my town. I really like that there is no sound and that the teachers are deaf themselves. This forces me to really work on understanding sign language, rather than lipreading or depending on speech or captions. My only suggestion would be to add a feedback button. There are occasional text errors which could easily be pointed out if there was a forum to do so. overall, highly highly highly recommend this app. I’m having a blast with it!.Version: 3.0.2

I don’t have 18$ to give you every monthWhen I got this app I was so excited to learn ASL. I did the first lesson then came back on the app just to see that it wasn’t completed. I tried to complete it but it told me to start the free trial. I declined the offer but then shortly realized that there was nothing else for me to do if I didn’t start the free trial. Somebody who is deaf, non verbal, or has a friend that is deaf etc. might need to learn ASL without going to an in person class. The first lesson only gave you words like hello, welcome, how, me, you, and fine. I wanted to be able to know and learn ASL, but to do that you have to start a free trial. not everybody is able to pay $18 a month for an app. I wanted to learn ASL and join the ASL community but now I can’t do that because i don’t have $18 to give you every month. I still gave this app 3 stars because if someone were to go premium and continue with the lessons the lessons are very easy to understand and show you how to learn the word very well even including a slow down button if they are signing to fast. But I am still mad because I would like to have a conversation in ASL which they give you if you continue the app with premium. In all the app would be lovely if it didn’t have that outstanding price you would have to pay before you could even complete the first lesson. Thank you for reading my review and I hope this helps with your decision of buying this app or not. 😊😊.Version: 3.1.3

Great appOverall I love this app. I feel like most of the signers are very clear and easy to follow and understand. A few sign differently and that’s tricky but I feel that it’s helpful to have variety to help prepare you more for the real world. Their testing isn’t great. I’ve written the wrong word but it was close to the spelling of the correct word, even if they aren’t even remotely related, and I got it correct. I guess the app took it as a misspelling? Other times I’ve added “ing” or put tummy instead of belly and I get it wrong. If there are multiple answers and you miss one, you get it completely wrong. These things aren’t a big deal. But it can be a little annoying when you have to take the test again for little things like this. Also, the tests are so repetitive! I think it’s smart to use the same words over and over to really pound them in, but when the same person is saying the same exact phrase over and over I stop watching and just tap out what they’re saying. I don’t have to try at that point. It takes away from my learning. Other than the testing being so-so I do feel like I’m learning to recognize signs. I wish there was a way for me to practice them myself through the app like other language learning apps, but I have no idea how they could facilitate that. This is the best ASL app I’ve found and I’ve enjoyed using it overall!.Version: 3.2.1

Wonderful but...This is a fantastic app. I found it easy to use and the spaced repetition is excellent. The vocabulary and conversations felt (for the most part) useful and appropriate for the real world. One complaint was the end of section reviews. They were so repetitive I didn't even have to see the word/phrase before answering because they showed the same one so many times. Also there were times I finished the reviews and there was an error forcing me to retake them. I just stopped doing those altogether. But that didn't matter too much and didn't affect the learning process. My bigger issue was the pricing structure. I 100% support paying for this app and even paid for a full year. It was (with caveat) absolutely worth the ~$100 for a year. BUT that should have been a one-time, for life price. I finished the entire series in about 6 months and the app hasn't added any new lessons since I bought it. There wasn't any point in renewing to pay another $100 yearly (or a monthly) fee to repeat the same material, but now I don't have access the the lessons I already took. That's really frustrating and disappointing. Again, I am not complaining about paying - an app like this shouldn't be free. But continuing to pay without new content is problematic and not worth it. I'm sorry I can't keep using this app as I really loved it..Version: 3.1.5

Love this app!I really wish there was a way for me to flag signs that I need more practice on. The app itself does have a progress bar that tells you signs you need work on, but I think it is a bit too lenient sometimes and I wish I could highlight signs that I don’t feel confident about. Especially since there’s some signs that I’ve guessed on and managed to get right, so the app won’t register it as a sign I’ve struggled with.. it also seems like it takes 3-4 times in a row of getting a sign wrong for the app to put it in the “Needs more practice” section. I’m sure some people love that it gives you multiple chances, but I’m the type of person who wants to have every mistake noted so I can study it, even if it was a mistake. I do really genuinely love the app though, I think it is so awesome. I have been wanting to learn sign language for a long time but didn’t know where to start. This has been a fun and easy way to learn. I’ve even got my boyfriend to start learning with me so I have somebody to practice with! It feels really good knowing I can do my part in helping the community be more accessible. :-).Version: 3.2.1

Great!Everything is awesome about this, I have just started this app and it is already amazing at using. I have Doulingo and this is almost and exact replica of Duolingo but for sign language. That is not a bad thing at all! The ONLY down side of this app that I have experienced so far is it is a bit easy. Not because I have already learned some ASL already but it is because it gives obvious hints that doesn’t help someone learn. The “obvious hints “ that I am talking about would be that it asks me what sign is a certain word and it has two options, those options say what the word that sign is if that makes any sense. There is one thing that I THINK is something wrong is there is a mirroring button that I was expecting it to have a camera and make me do that sign and it would recognize what I am doing. It doesn’t have that. It does however have the mirror button and it does have the camera, but it doesn’t do anything besides show you yourself, nothing else, to me why even have the button. Everything else I love about this app and I don’t even think that you need the mirror thingy but I was expecting it because I was sure I saw it in an ad I saw. All I have to say is that. Thank you for reading my review.🤠.Version: 3.0.2

Sign LanguageThe first ever time I saw someone sign was in elementary school and I was fascinated by sign language. I never perused sign so much until I was in my late 20s. I had a daughter and my wife and I taught our daughter baby sign language. She is 3 and a half, currently and can hear and speak but she still uses the baby sign language her mom and I taught her. It’s absolutely amazing. During the first 3 1/2 years other than the baby sign language I never continued to learn more sign language. Until now. I have only had this app for 2 days now. I took the first few things I had learnt in this app and the next day I was telling my coworkers all about this app and how it truly works. This app helps in so many ways. You are able to focus on your hands. The movement. Being able to understand. It’s pure beauty. If there is ever any doubt in your mind about wanting to learn something new, I highly recommend giving it a shot. You won’t regret it!.Version: 3.0.2

Great Learning Behind a PaywallFirst off, the app itself is great. The teaching style is wonderful, it includes variations of signs, and direct translations (which personally helps me understand the grammar better). It reminded me of Memrise and I was excited to use it as a supportive study resource while taking my ASL class this semester. That idea was quickly shattered though. Unlike Memrise, you cannot go past a point in lessons for free. It would be nice to have the same setup where the paid version gave you better more customized ways to study while everyone is allowed to go through the lessons free. It's already a problem that ASL isn't taught in schools by default so deaf people are excluded in so many of our lives. Why keep that behind a paywall for people who are trying to fix that? On top of that, the payment options are wayyy too expensive. It's the same as the overpriced streaming services. I got a whole year of Memrise for $30, with this app that's not even two months. If anything changes let me know because I would love to use this app, but until then most of my generation is struggling to even pay rent..Version: 3.1.5

Seemed great but now I’m just disappointedI was super excited to start learning and was really enjoying the first lesson only to make it most of the way through and not be able to continue unless I pay $18 a month. That’s way too expensive for an app, I don’t even pay that much for any of my streaming services. Even though I am disappointed with this, still giving 3 stars because it does have a lot of pros, The app was very easy to navigate and I was able to get learning right away. The lesson (the short amount that I got to do anyways) was very thorough and helpful, showing different ways something can be signed, and going over it multiple times in different forms such as, multiple choice, matching, etc. to help you remember. It also has an option to slow down the signing if it’s too fast for you to understand which I think is great for beginners like myself and definitely helps. So overall, it really is a great app, they just want way too much and don’t even give you a full lesson before they want you to start paying. Still debating if it’s worth the money or not..Version: 3.0.5

Best ASL app availableThis app is the single best ASL app I’ve found. From the videos being easy to follow, the actual grammar lessons instead of just rattling off words, the options to slow down videos and split screen the camera so you can follow along. The dictionary option is great when you need to brush up on a few words or when you’re translating with someone real time and the vocab trainer is great for daily use to make sure you’re training in all the material. Not to mention that Mano is adorable and the reminders and feedback it gives you are actually encouraging instead of slightly menacing (looking at that creepy green owl we’ve all tried) premium is a thing to unlock all of the content but honestly I don’t even think about it just bc of how worth it it is. I never subscribe to app things but this such a great value that it’s really no question.Version: 3.0.1

Premium?Giving three stars because I think this is a great app, or has to potential to be. While I can agree it is easy to use/navigate, and good beginner friendly lessons. Why is there a premium? I consider ASL a staple in communication. While I’ve personally taken a few years of ASL, I’m by no means fluent. I wanted to use this app to become as fluent as possible for my job, and not for the money as I would have to be certified, but because no one else in my department knows ASL. Therefore, would consider this extremely important. If people truly cared about hearing individuals (or others like nonverbal or recently deaf) learning ASL, it would be free. I’m somewhat familiar with the deaf community and they typically love when hearing people know sign language. So why make us pay $18 a month for it? I do have free ASL resources in my area, but that requires me going out after long days at work. And what about people who don’t have those resources? Why make something so important so expensive? $18 is a meal on the table, a half a tank of gas, it helps with bills..Version: 3.1.0

It’s alright..I love the app, although it definitely has room for improvements. First, enough with the premium! If your deaf and broke, your gonna have to learn sign language some how. People need to learn and I think the premium is making thing limited especially for people that need it! If you don’t want to get rid of premium that’s fine, but at least put the price down a notch. Not even some of the most popular apps are that expensive. If I can’t remember how to sign “How”, I would have to go all the way back to one of the lessons and see a bunch of stuff that I’ve already mastered. It’s really annoying that I can’t just use the dictionary, or do some other lessons. Not everyone is rich and has money to pay for premium. I feel bad for the people that actually need the help. Overall, though, the app is great with loads of lessons (even for people that don’t have premium). Although learning some lessons are really quick it still is very helpful..Version: 2.4.1

Great & Fun!I am a hairstylist and I realized that there is an entire community out there that probably can’t or won’t get their hair done because they can’t have someone come to interpret for them, or maybe they feel they might be judged or fear, because writing things down for communication goes so far. I have been using the app for 5 days now and I have learned so much! I am so excited to get closer to being able to converse with the deaf/hard of hearing community. Overall, the app runs great and it’s clear where everything is and what to do. the ONLY issue I have is sometimes, the instructors don’t sign the same, and I end up getting confused. I know the letter N has the thumb between the pinky and ring, but another instructor just puts their two fingers down, so I was confused and ended up getting things wrong..Version: 3.1.1

I like it but room for improvementI do like this app, but I think there is so much room for growth. The videos are a really great way to learn (although they do stick at times, even though our internet is extremely fast.) And I love the option to slow down the videos. All that is helpful. I do think the curriculum moves VERY fast. Things only get repeated through the module and by the next one you don’t revisit the content anymore, just learn a lot of new words. Since the modules are short and done in a few minutes, it’s just a few minutes of practice before the next batch of new words is introduced. I also wish it were an option to revisit mistakes to make sure they’ve been learned from. I really love the way Duolingo approaches teaching (Repetitions, presenting the same information different ways, gamifying the experience…) I really wish they would teach ASL. By comparison this app feels bare for sure..Version: 2.2.3

It’s awesome but..I really like this app but I have big beef with premium. Things like the review at the end of modules would make a bit of sense to need premium for, but all I can do without paying is the first module NOT including the review at the end. I’m neurodivergent and can sometimes go nonverbal. What if I don’t have a pen and paper or an electronic device to communicate?? Sometimes I can’t force myself to speak which means I’ll have no way to communicate my needs. And what about those born deaf or went deaf before they learned a good amount of spoken words?? What about mute people?? I and many others with these or similar problems may not have a good support system or the money to take ASL classes or pay for fancy apps. This app was really good! It explained stuff and had multiple methods of teaching. But what’s the point of having it if it ain't accessible to as many as possible?? This seems like exploitation if I’m being honest and that’s not a good look. Please change this..Version: 2.6.8

DisappointingI’m a high schooler who wanted to learn asl as a basic skill before applying to a new job where I’d work with kids and I worried there could potentially be deaf kids since I encountered deaf people for the first time at my old job. I was really excited but I got through all the available material within an hour before I was stopped by a paywall. Again I’m a high school student and currently unemployed and I absolutely would’ve tapped into my savings for this but I just can’t afford $18 monthly payments. I think it’s unfortunate after seeing how tiring it is for deaf people to communicate with hearing people who’ve never considered learning to sign because it didn’t affect them and I’m sure many would be willing if it was more accessible but I don’t think prices that high are helpful to hearing people willing to learn or deaf people who struggle daily communicating with people who can’t sign. Accessibility would help all sides so I don’t understand..Version: 3.1.9

An actual DREAMI have always wanted to learn to sign. But it wasn’t offered in my school system and with my budget now, finding an in person class to pay for isn’t an option. I stumbled across this in an add. And did the first chapter because that is what is offered for free. I learned the greetings quickly and immediately dove into the free trial of o continue because I was so excited to keep going. Everything is explained so thoroughly and even if I’m slow signing right now, it’s so exciting to be able to understand what someone is signing to me. And I think it will be more than worth the monthly price until I’ve completed all the units. And it comes with three dialects to learn, so I could become multi lingual in sign. This is a true dream come true, and I’m so thankful that I found this app..Version: 2.8.3

Best learning thing everThis is the best one to ever because I get to learn ASL because it is cool and I’m just doing this for fun, but if I meet anyone that is deaf, I can locate them with this app or with a friend who wants to like you know you lose this app you can always let them know. Also whoever made this app if you’re still alive look at mine look at my review five star review, it’s just too good too good I might forget to do some lessons because I always miss out on Duolingo. I hate that thing a little bit. I love it teach me Spanish but then I when I don’t wanna learn Spanish I literally just go like I don’t wanna do do a Lego, also Duolingo is like the best thing on earth. Anything else do do lingo is just me trying to say Duolingo so make sure this app is fun good and better for kids Sia..Version: 3.1.6

Good, but could be betterFirst off, the price is crazy expensive and I didn’t see an option for a yearly discount which I do for Duolingo. Speaking of, unless these are owned by the same company, a lot of this app seems to be copying Duo. Again regarding price, the app is quite…ugly. The appearance and interface could use a major overhaul, as well as the logo. Branding matters and maybe if it was pleasant to look at, I could possibly justify the monthly price. The trial was so short I couldn’t even become interested in wanting to pay for it. When there are so many other free options out there, I’ll have to go elsewhere. TLDR: I did learn a few basic words in the super short trial. While I understand deaf people mouth words as they sign, I found this distracting while learning because I was just reading their lips instead of focusing on the hand movements. App design is unappealing and dated but content is decent..Version: 3.0.2

Disappointed..I was so excited when I saw the ad for this app.. I have wanted to learn signing my whole life! The ad advertised this as a free app.. I downloaded it and started right away.. it was so easy and I was learning.. I could not believe all of the signs I learned in just a few days.. at the end of each lesson I was completely confident with what I learned.. I looked forward to getting on the app each day to learn a new sign.. but today.. day 8 wouldn’t let me continue unless I signed up for a free trial for another 7 days and then start paying each month.. over all it would be over $100 a year.. which might not sound like a lot to some people but I can’t afford it.. I actually thought there wasn’t going to be a catch to this one.. I was really learning and now I have to go back to nothing .. I’m so sad...Version: 3.1.9

FantasticAwesome app! A bit expensive with 18 a month. Would have maybe thought 18 total. Guess it gives extra incentive to finish it quickly though. 🤷🏻‍♀️ We have been learning ASL for a while and knew the beginning signs that are taught. This app is allowing me to see how sentences are structured though. Which is mostly what I've been looking for. Reminds me a lot of an ASL version of Duo. Which is perfect. Thank you for creating it. We've been learning because of our ministry work and I personally feel it's my responsibility to learn ASL in general. Those that are hard of hearing can only do so much to communicate with the hearing. And they do very well- but I have it in my power to learn to communicate with them. So I should. And this app makes it very easy. Thank you..Version: 1.1

Landscape view neededI downloaded this app to my tablet so that I could prop the screen up and see the signs and then use the mirror feature more easily. I was very disappointed to learn that it has the same view as on my phone. I had really hoped that I could take advantage of the larger screen to see things more clearly, and more comfortably use the app. How am I supposed to practice using my hands if I can’t prop my screen up easily? My neck gets tired looking down at it. Other than the view limitation, however, I am loving the app! It works well for my learning style, and I am finding myself making progress quickly. I’m also remembering the signs much more easily than when I took in person classes. The repetition schedule is perfect for me!.Version: 2.8.4

Great self-paced learningI love the bite-sized course sections. It is extremely easy to keep up with learning ASL when it can be done in short intervals at my own pace. In addition, the training quizzes and dictionary makes retaining skills easy and fun to do. Three things I especially like are the videos of real people signing (instead of cartoon characters or still photos), the inclusion of several different people signing (instead of just one reference person), and the dialog sections which provide good back-and-forth conversations. This ensures a real-life variety of signing that will make in-person situations easier to acclimate to. All of this uses regular, realistic conversations so the experience feels as real as is possible. Additionally, a website version of the app can also be accessed which makes home learning easy, and your learning progress syncs between the app and the website so you can pickup right where you left off on either device. For me, this app has been fun and extremely helpful. The subscription cost is perfectly reasonable, plus you get a chance to try it out for a while before you have to put any money into it..Version: 3.1.9

Worth every penny!I initially started learning ASL due to a crush…and this app has exceeded my expectations in helping me achieve conversational fluency! Over the past 7 months of daily study, my vocabulary has expanded to about 1,000 signs. I've nearly completed all the lessons and am now focusing on mastering them through the vocab trainer feature. This progress would have taken me years through traditional classes alone. While I also work with a weekly private ASL tutor who is Deaf and am considering formal classes in the future, this app has truly been a game changer for me. It has not only enhanced my communication skills but also introduced me to a vibrant community and culture within the Deaf community. Highly recommended for anyone interested in learning ASL!.Version: 3.1.0

This app is absolutely amazing, but…I love this app, learning sign language so that i can communicate with deaf and hearing people is very fun. i love the way there are videos and at the ned of each lesson, u can choose to redo it, go over the lesson or move on. the only thing i don’t like about this app is that u have to pay for it. i knew that it would be too good to be true, amazing lessons, great reviews, and amazing quality, until i’m on my last lesson and before i could even start it, it’s making me pay to continue. i’m obviously not going to pay but really, u guys are making a great app that millions could use, to make millions not use it by paying?!? like this is very annoying and i would like to use sign language to communicate with certain people and because i have to pay, i won’t get to do that along with hundreds of thousands of others..Version: 3.1.2

I LOVE THIS APP SO MUCHHThis app helps me learn so much words every time I see a deaf person I always know what to say this app is very useful whenever you have a new student and they are deaf this app will help you and learn you more and more every day it's kind of like Duolingo but in the better version app even show you how you look like when you're doing the sign!!really recommend this app if one of your family members is deaf or one of your class is deaf you're going somewhere and you see a deaf person it teaches you lots of stuff I love this app I recommend for everybody who doesn't know sign language and a lot of sign language now because of this app very useful really recommend it for people who don't know sign language.(:.Version: 4.0.0

PriceSince I was a kid, I grew up watching shows in sign language so I do know a bit and I was excited for this app because I could learn everything and actually focus on it only to get through the first chapter to be see I have to pay $20 a month, honestly, I would be fine paying $20 if it was a one time purchase a lot of people are interested in this app and $20 from everyone would be plenty. I feel like a flat fee would be a lot better than monthly $20 and a lot more people would be interested in the app and buying it. other than that, I loved the way it went through things and how you have an option to slow it down so you can focus on the hand movements and see exactly how they work and even at the end it puts it into a conversation for you to understand rather than just one word at a time..Version: 3.1.7

Great teaching app but…I spent forever looking for ASL apps the are for beginners but that increases the difficulty. This app does that! It quizzes you in differ ways and goes back over old signs so that you remember everything better! It has lessons, a sign dictionary and “trainers” so you can practice specific stuff (finger spelling, number, signs…). This app is by far the best I’ve used so far and comply worth the money! I’ve had no issues with it, and I’ve had it for almost 2 yrs now! My only issue is I want more!! I wish they would periodically put new content as they haven’t since I’ve had the app. Since there’s no new content you should be proficient in the language after a year or 2 if studying constantly!.Version: 3.1.7

Best ASL app !As a CODA encouraging other friends and family to learn ASL, I wanted to be able to give good recommendations for ways to learn. I saw ads for this app and tried it out myself and I can say it’s a fantastic way to learn, not just the signs, but the grammatical sentence structure of ASL which is different than English/sign-english. As well as learning about the facial expressions that are used with signs for context. I am very impressed and can’t wait to recommend it! My only suggestion for the app would be, to be able to add friends and be able to see and congratulate their streaks like you can on other apps. On this one I can only text message my streak to my friends using it, rather than inside the app..Version: 4.0.2

Was HelpfulI am currently in ASL III in my high school. I downloaded this app to hone my ASL skills but there’s no real way to advance myself past the basics that I don’t necessarily need. Also a lot of people are complaining about the pay wall but this app is providing a service that people would normally need to pay for. I understand the frustration but I don’t necessarily believe it’s an unreasonable ask. I will not be paying for it, but in theory I don’t believe it’s wrong. I also don’t appreciate that it doesn’t teach Deaf culture or etiquette; those two things are just and important as signing itself when learning. Culture and etiquette might be taught in later lessons, but after finishing the first chapter there’s no sign of those teachings. I think Lingvano does a good job at face value but there could definitely be improvements..Version: 3.1.8

Learning fastI just started a few weeks ago and I can already have basic conversations. I’ve tried other free ASL apps and they really don’t compare. Apps like duolingo will teach you the word orange and America before you learn basic greetings. Like why would I need to say the word tea before the word hello? Lingvano mainly focuses on the basics first before delving into the more comprehensive things. Only thing I would like is for them to show different angles of certain signs or give instructions on proper finger placement. The sign for dog for example is hard to understand. I can’t tell what she’s doing with her fingers. Other than that, I am learning fast and I think it’s worth the money..Version: 3.1.6

EhI found this from a few advertisements and suddenly got the urge to start learning sign language for fun. I was I really interested while going through the first lessons, and then it showed that I had to pay to kept going.. well not exactly paying I don’t think, but I had to put card info. This app is for 9+, do you think all minors have that kind of money now? And speaking shouldn’t come at a cost at all. I’ve tried learning Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Tagalog. They all needed card info for me to keep learning. I’ve tried so many apps and nothing came fully free, I thought learning sign language would be different but it’s still just another language. I don’t get why we have to pay to learn these things. And people say it’s best to start learning at a young age. How can I learn if nothing will let me..Version: 2.8.3

Totally worth the priceIf I could give this app 100 stars instead I would so do so this app gives you super easy lessons to learn sign and it teaches you the correct way to do it. It’s so easy it shows you and then I ask you questions about it and then review a couple of things and it has so many lessons you like never get bored of it because there’s so many new there’s like 100 and something, this app is so fun and you wanna learn sign language then you should totally download this app and if you can’t download the premium, then you can take the first one but if you can’t, then you might have to try a different app 100% recommended and worth the price.Version: 3.1.5

If you’re invested, this app will change your life!!I downloaded this app 19 days ago. I am now on unit 3, and I know 264 words so far. I know my alphabet, I can count to infinity if I wanted to, I know my days of the week, seasons, months, I can tell and ask about time. I know simple conversational signs and so much more. This app is perfectly laid out and organized with units, chapters, and lessons. There is a study tab for vocab, spelling, and numbers. This app inspires you and hypes you up to keep up a daily streak. You can get on there and study for a few minutes, and that will count as 1 day towards your streak. Go at your own pace, and have everything explained thoroughly. I say give it a shot ❤️.Version: 3.0.5

Great app! Suggestion:I've been learning ASL on the Lingvano app and I've noticed a lack of encouragement and opportunities to practice signing myself. I think it would be incredibly beneficial to add a section where users can practice not only recognizing signs, but performing the signs themselves. This feature could include cycling flashcards of English sentences, or sentences in the language of your choice, based on the vocabulary we've learned so far. Users would have to translate and perform the signs, and then flip to see a video of the correct signing and the signs in written format. I believe this addition would significantly improve our learning experience and align with your mission statement..Version: 3.1.8

AMAZING!!!!This has been such an amazing experience using this app. I have always wanted to learn asl as I think it is fascinating! I work as a nurse and surprisingly come across a lot of patients who are deaf or hearing impaired. All of the teachers on the app are amazing, Liz is my favorite and you will see her the most! I am on module 6 of the app and had my first successful shift caring for a deaf patient! We didn’t need to write down anything or use word boards for identification, we were able to communicate just with asl and he was extremely impressed, and surprised I knew asl. Such a beautiful culture that I cannot wait to learn more of and hopefully be involved in more!!!! If you’re on the fence, JUST DOWNLOAD IT!!!!.Version: 2.8.3

Not intimidating at all!If you are completely new to ASL then this is the app for you. It starts off with very common words that you would Utilize in everyday conversation. When learning a new sign the video will Repeat until you press the next button. You can even slow down the video if needed. It also teaches asl syntax. For example if you are hearing you would say “I can hear”. If you are deaf you actually sign “me hearing”. Knowing the syntax makes it easier to retain signs and helps you to know how to construct a sentence in asl. Right now I am Just using the free version but I will eventually move to the paid version bc this is such a good learning tool..Version: 3.1.7

InterestingI have to say so far the app is really good I haven’t found an app like this one. I’m more of a virtual learner and this did the job. The reason I want to learn sign language because I was never taught this language in high school or at my university I wanted to try something new. Found it interesting being a ale to learn sign language there’s soo many deaf individuals in this world where it’s hard for people to even understand and I want to be one of those people to learn a different language that is not used as often as it should be. So far the app is wonderful love the face expression is your looking for something virtual this is for you. Hope this help..Version: 2.7.1

100!I absolutely love this app! I have in tunnel hearing loss which means I can hear out of one ear and I can’t hear out of the other. When I was a child I only knew so little of sign language and then when I got older I stopped using sign language because I got use to reading lips and having people talk loud so I can hear. Now as an adult my ears are getting worse and worse as I get older and I’m wanting to learn sign language so I can still communicate with my family and others. I already learned so much in just 10 minutes. I didn’t know how easy it can be to learn sign languages thank you for coming up with this app!! 😁.Version: 3.0.2

No notification settingsPlease add notification settings. when your app asked if i wanted streak notifications and i said yes, i assumed it meant only streak notifications. nope. already got a notification trying to get me to purchase a subscription (excuse me? i just downloaded the app TODAY give me a chance to decide without being too pushy. i understand ads for it in the app but notifications???) and another trying to get me to go back and start chapter 2. i turned off notifications for the app in my phone settings because i was irritated. i have had this app for ONE DAY. please let me control what notifications i receive. i was so excited to find an app teaching asl but i’m already turned off from this one because of this..Version: 3.2.1

Yay, finally a Lingvano iOS app!I tried some of the learn sign language / ASL apps on the store and they ranged from not great to “ok”. I found Lingvano online and was hesitant to subscribe to a service just through a website but it turned out to be the right choice. Their product was good and their teachers are good. The guy doesn’t sign as clearly but it’s good real world practice, but the main lady is great and watching the dialog between the two is super helpful. Their lessons test you as best they can without having a teacher actually seeing you sign. Multiple choice, reading dialog, and quizzing you on ASL concepts and rules. If this all translates into the app, it will be the best ASL app on the App Store because the content is great. If not I will update my review with what needs improvement, but their lessons are top notch! Very high quality. My only current critique is I really wish this was an iPad app, but hey it’s better than nothing. Really looking forward to using it and being able to manage my subscription via my Apple account..Version: 1.0

Love this app, could take some hints from DuolingoI like this app a ton, I’ve been learning ASL but have struggled to keep up with things the past few months and this app has helped. However, as someone who aready knew a bit of ASL, I wish this app had a placement test so that I didn’t spend weeks learning the basics and could skip ahead to what I don’t know. The price is also a bit steep when comparing this to free learning apps like Duolingo. I would be willing to pay as I understand this is a high quality learning modality for a unique language, but $5-$8 a month is more reasonable. Hopefully as time goes on the price goes down..Version: 2.8.4

READ THISA lot of people are complaining that it is very expensive to learn using this app. the truth is, that’s the way it is, Duolingo it has ads, or you pay equal amount to remove them. ASL is a complex language and it is well worth the money if you are actually investing in learning the language properly, it costs much less than lessons so really take a moment to think about all the work that goes in to this app before you say it is too expensive..Version: 2.7.7

Love the TurtleI love the slow speed option I used up my free trial and have moved onto my first month of paid subscription. I am learning so much and retaining it. I love the practice section and the dictionary. I am already sad for when I run out of content. I am not sure what I will do then, this has honestly been the most helpful learning tool that I have tried for ASL.Version: 4.0.0

Great appI am learning ASL in an engaging and practical way. I’m very pleased with this app! If you want to learn ASL this is a great app! Five stars because it’s great. But it is a little expensive..Version: 4.0.0

ExcellentExcellent way to learn and practice ASL confidently !!.Version: 4.0.0

Easy to learn!I’m learning for fun and it’s SO EASYYYYYY 10/10 THE BEST THING EVER.Version: 3.2.1

I love this ASL app!Lingvano has been such a great investment. Not only are the exercises clear and easy to understand, but learning from Lingvano everyday has been SO MUCH FUN! I’ve made so much progress!.Version: 3.2.1

Worth The Money!!!!This app is absolutely incredible. I’ve been learning with my partner for just over a week and we can already hold short conversations. Completely understand people’s frustrations about having to pay, it is a little pricey, but in my opinion 1000% worth it. The creators of this app deserve to be paid well for what they’ve made. I am thrilled..Version: 3.1.9

5 star by accidentLeft a 5 star by accident idk if the app is worth that or not. My son tapped the 1 star and wasn’t able to remove it and we didn’t want to leave you with a 1 star review that’s undeserved. I’m sure it’s great we just didn’t get passed the free trial to really give it a go. So here’s a 5 for the great work I’m sure is being provided on a paid platform..Version: 3.1.9

Totally great!!I recommend it for everyone - so accessible..Version: 3.1.7

Best ASLI luv learning sign and teaching it to my granddaughter.Version: 3.1.7

I’ve learned so muchI really love the teaching structure of this app. I have learned almost two hundred signs on a day because of it! I know it’s expensive, but it’s well worth the money. The one piece of feedback I have is that the videos meant to help you distinguish between “and” and “or” are not helpful. I find it impossible to tell whether or not the signer’s eyebrows are raised. I took screenshots to compare the images, and they are indistinguishable. It would be great if those were clearer!.Version: 3.1.7

This is awesomeLove it it is awesome to learn.Version: 3.1.5

Needs subscription to go further.Good instructions, Clear sign examples, has the same instructional vibes as duolingo. Only downside is that it requires a subscription of $22.99 CAD, but it does offer a free trial! It’s a good thing to learn with sadly it’s expensive..Version: 3.1.5

Great app!Learning sign language to talk to someone I care about. This app makes learning fun. I can’t wait to show them what I’ve learned already and to practice with them..Version: 3.1.1

Fantastic AppThe only reason I rate 4/5 is because the mascot Mano is an absolute eyesore, we're deaf not blind.Version: 3.1.4

Make it so you can choose the person on screen.Great app but make it so you can change the person on screen. For whatever reason this dude with freakishly long/sharp fingernails is now teaching me to sign. And i can’t stand him..Version: 3.0.5

😭I was so excited to find this amazing app at first, but then, when I realized I had to pay for it after just one lesson I was so annoyed! if there was an option to pay one time to continue, then I would do it, but you can only choose it monthly or annually😭😭😭.Version: 3.1.0

Incredible appThis is an incredible app. Easy to use and follow. I haven’t bitten the bullet to buy the subscription yet but have learning lots already from just the free trial. Highly recommend..Version: 3.0.5

It’s good!I love it so much I learn new stuff everyday!.Version: 3.0.5

Update to my previous reviewI’ve been using the app daily for almost two months now, and I really like it. One feature that would be helpful is the ability to *speed up* the videos of signing, especially of fingerspelled words and numbers. Accomplished ASL users go so quickly, and that’s something the training options currently don’t let you replicate. (You do have the option to slow down the speed.).Version: 3.0.3

Great app!Easy to navigate and makes learning ASL easy and accessible..Version: 3.0.2

Wow !!Love this app so much ! No feedback at this moment, haven’t used the app all that long but so far no complaints. Super easy to learn from home and on the fly. Love it 💜.Version: 3.0.2

Seems goodThe lessons are informative and easy to understand, even for me.Version: 3.0.2

This app is amazingYou wanna know why it’s because you can learn my language for free like that’s the best part of it you should download it right now as soon as possible!!! This app is literally amazing!!!!.Version: 3.0.2

SO FUNIt is so good. It helped me learn sign language and works amazing.Version: 3.0.2

AWESOMEI’ve always wanted to learn sign language not because I had a relative or friend that I wanted to learn for but just because I was genuinely curious to and it looked fun to do hehe I also wanted to learn just in case I wanted to communicate with someone who was deaf, hard of hearing or mute!! So I really appreciate this app Thank you so much! JJ <333.Version: 3.0.2

Good but forced a yearly subscription onto meIt’s a very good app for learning Sign language but if you forgot to cancel the free trial it forces you to pay for a yearly subscription which is over 100 dollars, not to mention the app signed me out and I can’t get my old account back so now not only do I not have the yearly subscription but I have to start back from square one. I really wish I could rate this app 5 stars but I can’t in good faith. I miss the old days when apps would just notify you that your trial is over and if you want to keep the features you would pay for a subscription instead of praying in forgetful people and forcing subscriptions when you don’t cancel.Version: 3.0.2

This should helpIt asks you questions and teachers you knew sign language and it’s for free.Version: 3.0.2

Amazing! The design of this app is very pleasing, and I love the way the videos repeat so I have time to practice. Im excited to continue learning!.Version: 3.0.2

AmazingI love this so much. Being able to sign and learn new stuff, and re learn stuff I’ve missed, I love it!!.Version: 2.8.6

Abt this appI love this app because I know a lot of deaf people.Version: 2.8.6

Incredibly useful and well taught! Though it’s still only.. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ..because..The reason I’m giving it three stars is nothing but to dye with that too expensive for a broke mans yearly subscription fee that it comes along with, otherwise it’s a totally amazingly well done app that teaches even a Idiot like me sign language if I can learn so can you folx! It’s truly a useful tool for me as someone who is nonverbal often due to AUDHD.. it’s a true ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ to me not gonna cover it up anymore or be ashamed I loved being given a second voice through gestures for those especially muted days. 💝.Version: 2.8.5

Pretty goodIt’s a lot like duolingo! The one thing I would like to see is a more close up and detailed look at the hands for the signs instead of just the sign in fast and slow..Version: 2.8.6

🥰Very helpful. Learning to communicate in sign is a lot easier with direction then with the internet and mixed signals. 👍👍👍.Version: 2.8.6

Great app just very priceyWhat I said in the subject line^.Version: 2.8.6

Very well thoughtI love it . I think it’s a nice app. I love the fact that you can slow down the video that show you the sign cause I’m a slow learner and I must admit sign language is hard but the way the app is made it makes you practice in different way . I wish you could go back and see all the words you learn it might be already there I’m just starting to using this app so I’m gonna keep discovering this . They do a recap at the end of you learning session thats perfect for me . i love that you can reapet multiple time the sign they make sure you anderstand before learning new sign. Very very good . I would recommend to actually everybody I mean it’s such a beautiful language and it make sure that we all anderstand each other I think for me this app is gonna help me accomplish that. thank you.Version: 2.8.3

WowThis app is great. Its very helpful and doesn’t pester you to buy premium. 👏.Version: 2.8.2
