People are saying that this app keeps taking money out of your account even when you disconnect your bank information and there’s no way to talk to a live person. For now, I’m happy with my experience and I look forward to being better with my money, which means I’ll be paying a lot more attention to my bank account. By the way, it literally tells you that you’re going to be charged every other week. Works for advances but need better supportI have been approved for advances immediately and they’ve increased by $20 after each was paid back in a timely manner. However you have to wait almost a week after repayment for it to clear before requesting a new one, which can be frustrating alone but it works. The biggest frustration is that it glitches out and won’t verify my debit card (Wells Fargo, nothing prepaid) and I’ve submitted two help tickets about it that have gone without reply. The first was 2 weeks ago. I already had to wait a week after you took the money out of my account & now I have to wait 7-8 hours for it to post ACH. Not really worth it. Call Your BankThe numerous people on here saying that they are getting charged the 4.99 fee each month, yet don’t use the services and/or cancelled/closed your credit genie account need to call their bank and put a stop to them taking your money - so glad I read the reviews before signing up. Lots of delays but decent appI’ve had a lot of issues initially getting approved for an advance at all. Now that I finally get approved it asks me to link my debit card which I do to which it then asks me to verify my number. Since I’ve had my account so long I have switched numbers before ever being approved. So I go to change it so I can finally verify my number and get an advance at last. To my surprise they offer no option to change your number!!!😊 you have to email support and wait 3-5 business days for a response. I’m on day 2 and haven’t heard anything yet. Good app.I like it for the cash advances and was approved for 100 the second time. What I I don’t like is the fact that there’s no option to “pay now”. You can change the date only. I have not been able to add my debit card in the app for some reason. Sent a message to support and they said it was because it’s an ATM card only I have no clue where they got that from. Awful customer serviceI have other cash advance apps. Those work perfectly this app can't even help you when it says your account is a joint account. You try and show you're actually not a joint account. Just get copy and pasted answers if they answer at all and you go to there website with that help ticket and they switch it from open to awaiting YOUR reply like you need to respond to get any help explaining something to you leaving you not helped and ignored. The way they do business even after all my documents I sent showing my account is NOT a joint account they refuse to even look at my stuff to confirm. And $4.99 every 2 weeks for a bank connection fee!?!!! Poor customer serviceSo, I stumbled upon credit genie after a google search. I decided to give them a try and qualified instantly for an advance. The process of qualifying and getting the deposit was fairly easy. Fee was low. My problem occurred when my debit card was compromised and was cancelled ( the one used) to have the 4.99 fee taken out. I immediately contacted Credit Genie to let them know and they reassured me that it would be debited from my checking account which it was. Payment not late and completed without any issues. However, since reaching out and letting them know about the compromised card I have not been able to update the new card. I have made several attempts to reach out to credit genie and have not been given any direct answers other than them telling me I cancelled the account with them. I have not cancelled anything. I requested proof they failed to provide proof and now tell me they can not reinstate the account for 60 days. Well it’s unfortunate for them there are a multitude of similar companies out there empower, money lion, Vola, brigit, Cleo etc. I will not chase down any given company. Stay far awayThis app is horrible. I downloaded this app April because I was short on money. I thought it was a good app until I got my second advance. I have had some unexpected bills come up and I can’t afford to repay the company back. Their policy is that the date of repayment falls on the date that you get your paycheck. I have reached out to them multiple times about this issue and they keep saying the automated message that your payment is going to be repaid on Friday and don’t worry we will not overdraft your bank account. That they would reschedule the repayment if the date of your paycheck and the date of repayment don’t line up. Seems like they send out this automated message. They only care about their money. Plus their “customer service” is a joke. They don’t get back to you in a timely manner. If you do respond to their emails you have to wait for a response. It ends up resetting time and date you sent the response. So you have no choice but to wait for them to “respond”. It’s the same automated response. No we are sorry for this. No how can we help you. AWFUL REPORTING TO BBBSo let me first start off by saying I was approved for $100 from this app which I did take and I paid back on time. Sidenote the repayment process takes forever. It literally took eight business days for them to get their payment posted. Stealing your monthly $5So this is what their plan is people, they approve your first couple loans get you using their app. They keep collecting their monthly subscription cost but then will start denying your advances. Total waste of $4.99/monthI had high hopes for this app, but after checking my advance availability every single day for over a month and then sporadically for a month and then consistently for a couple of weeks I’ve never been approved for an advance even tho I meet all the requirements, my checking account is over a year old which is more than the 3 months they require and it’s never been negative. But I am self employed so I don’t have the $600 in payroll direct deposits required to be approved. But not everyone gets paid through a payroll department. Punishes Users for someone else trying to link accountsI had used credit genie for a while and no problems. Then I tried to use it again last week when I needed some cash and it said my bank account was in use by another user. I submitted a ticket and they got back to me today saying that because someone else tried to link to MY bank account, my account was permanently blocked from their system and there was no way to appeal or reverse this action. So now, if I want to use their service, I have to open another bank account. This would defeat the purpose of using their service in the first place. I find it deeply disturbing that rather than notify me about the attempt by someone else to link my account (and of the possible security breach that this points to), they just block my account and access with no warning or way to remedy the situation. I even came back to them after they blindsided their California customers and said they were no longer doing business in California. Enough is enough! My credit union went through an update that required me to change my password for my online banking. My bank account lost connection to multiple apps after this. I contacted Plaid and they told me I needed to unlink my account completely and then reconnect it back to the app. The issue with Credit Genie is once you disconnect your bank account, they make you wait 30 days before you can connect it again. I didn’t have 30 days to wait. I contacted support and I had to wait 2 days, but they advised I was able to link my account again. I link my account successfully and go apply for an advance and I was denied. It said I needed to wait 24 hours before I could apply. I try to log back in maybe an hour later to see if my debit card is still linked and now I get a message that says my account is permanently disabled! This is totally unacceptable. Think twice. Awful!!!!This might be a long review. This app started out great with no issues. Until last month, I’ve always had auto payments turned on and have never missed a payment. Checked my checking account and two payments plus the monthly fee had been taken out. I went to login to the app and was taken back to the verification process. That wasn’t even the crazy part. I had previously “ over a month ago” updated my new cellphone number with no problem but was asked for my old cellphone number to verify who I was I do not have access to the old number anymore obviously. I’ve been trying to reach customer service for weeks with no response whatsoever. I have sent in two emails with the phone verification screenshots once again and nothing. You should probably take the constructive feedback that users leave instead of writing rude responses. ScamI used this app for 2 cash advances. Paid them both back and paid the “membership fee” of $4.99 both times too. Went to try to sign into my app the same day I got a notification saying I had a cash advance available and got a pop-up saying my account was permanently disabled. Stupid AppI have been using this app for some time now and everything was sweet at first. I was able to qualify for the $100 advance and would use it whenever I was in need of money. I never had a problem paying it back on time either. I received an email stating that my advance was paid off and as I went to login, it told me that my account was permanently disabled. I was confused so I contacted support and they told me the same thing. I have never did anything wrong or violated any terms and conditions for them to delete my account. I have always paid everything on time and I hardly ever used the app to do anything but take an advance. Ridiculous.This app is the worst I’ve seen, I’ve deleted it and redownloaded it multiple times after it connects to my bank but won’t “save”. I get emails from my bank saying it’s connected also, and plaid says each time that it’s connected, but the app itself refuses to load or save the information so that I can get an advance. It’s almost as if it doesn’t want you to use the service. So stupid. Save yourself the effort. Response to developer: You can only create 1 account per phone number. So I’m not sure how that’s possible with my bank account being connected. And for your reference for further responses, unless things are set up- you can’t access ANYTHING. Will take your money whenever they want***Update*** They did it again!! So after my last review, I found some consistency with using the debit card as the method of transfer for my timely repayments. I thought this was going to be the thing that worked but I got an advance on Jan 14th, I got a little money sent to me by a family member to my account on the 22nd, no more than 2 hours later I have a debit from my card going towards my advance repayment. This is the most flawed system I have ever seen with any financial entity. They replied to my first review not too long ago with an email, I ironically just had this experience today so I guess I will see if I can get some type of explanation. But 1 star is still too many, I’d really be careful with this app and just pay attention to your accounts because they definitely are and repaying themselves with anything funds that go to it, pay check or not. So I have used this app for cash advances and the repayment from my bank account was always typically slow to process (about 3-5 days) on their end. Say it was taken out on the first, it wouldn’t register on their end until the 4th or 5th. However it did help at times to have that emergency fund so no big deal. The problems have started when I got an advance on Nov 4th and on the 6th it was drafted out of my account causing an overdraft. I am paid the 15th and 30th of each month and supposedly their system is supposed to take it out on or around your payday. I reached out to find out what the problem was and how this occurred and found no help, however I added my debit card to have the repayments process there in a quicker fashion which worked until today. I look at my account again and there is yet another withdrawal from my account for an advance I got on the 29th, it is the 6th today. On top of that, it says it will ‘process’ on the 11th. Again not seeing how this happens when I am paid twice a month on the 15th and 30th. This app will randomly repay itself regardless of your pay date or account balance so beware. They offered me nothing and still took my money when they know the only people who use this app are those who are struggling financially. Absolutely awfulDo NOT use this app. They will delay taking repayment even when you have money to cover the amount. They will then continue to charge you the $4.99 fee. My second app review ever.They charged me on January 2, 15 and 16 for the bi-weekly bank connection fee. I provided my bank statement showing these charges, explaining that I was charged both on the 15 and 16, which is not-biweekly. The rep either doesn’t understand or care to understand that they charged me 3 times in 2 weeks (on 1/2, 1/15, 1/16). This morning, I received an email stating they are reversing the additional charge “as a courtesy” but then also had the audacity to remind me of the bi-weekly charges I agreed to. Worst Cash Advance AppSo I saw so many ads about this about giving you a cash advance. So I downloaded and tried it. But they will trick you into taking a bank fee and then you won’t get a cash advance at all if you don’t qualify due to bank accounts transactions and activity. No only that they keep your data on file and won’t let you delete your account even if you never got any money from them. Do not use this app. It might worked from some but if you expect to get some emergency money don’t. It’s a joke. The WORST Cash Advance App - READ THISI’ve been in a financial bind lately and have explored every single cash advance app I could find. I’ve used 12 of them and Credit Genie is by far the worst one. They’re the ONLY one of the 12 that hasn’t approved me for a single advance because they have the most stringent eligibility requirements…Why does that upset me enough to take the time to leave a bad review? Because they’ve charged me the monthly premium for several months without offering a single cash advance, saying I’m not eligible every time I’ve checked. Each of the 11 other apps I’ve used have given me advances every single month, but I’ve been flushing money down the drain paying Credit Genie’s monthly premium and have gotten zero value from it. There’s also no way to contact support if you run into an issue. If you need support for any reason, they’ll give you “a few articles that can help” without any option to go further.
