QuakeWatch App Comments & Reviews
QuakeWatch Positive Reviews
Good app - updatedI have to say after trying about 15 earthquake apps, i have found this one to be the easiest and nicest to use. The data is presented very well on the list page and the fonts are readable. Also the map is reasonably well done. By the way, the ability to adjust font size is much appreciated. Thank you! The one function this app is lacking is push notifications. I read once where they have some agreement not to do notices but that greatly reduces this app's value as you have to have a different earthquake app with notices to know an earthquake just happened and where so you can look them up on this one. In time, everyone will just stop using (and purchasing) this app if the developers don't add that functionality..Version: 3.6.1
Goes hand in hand with Dutchsinse on You TubeThis app is great, but I remember when I first downloaded this app, a few months back, I was able to zoom into an area, much closer than I can now.. what happened to the pixels? It’s not as clear anymore.. I liked it before when I could see exactly what the terrain looks like, where the quake hit. I would really appreciate if you could fix that issue! Thanks!!.Version: 3.7
Best of the Lot!Because this app pulls from numerous sources and not JUST USGS-who have a reputation for under-reporting or even NOT reporting quakes which may affect their corporate sponsors-after trying NUMEROUS quake apps, I ALWAYS return to this one. My only problem has been notifications. But, now I have an app that ONLY gives push notifications, (not much detail), and I can just open THIS app for all my detail! Have also recommended to fellow Dutch-watchers. While I personally have only experienced a few quakes personally and live in a rather low risk zone; after the Aug ‘11 quake knocked my building off its foundation here in Pa; and I have friends & family in high-risk zones, I prefer to keep INFORMED & PREPARED!.Version: 3.7
Its A Good AppQuakeWatch is a good app. It works as advertised. My only real problem is there seems to be no way to contact the developer. When I go to the link to contact the developer all I get is a 404 error. Does that mean there's going to be no future updates?.Version: 3.8
Very Helpful AppThe information is nearly instantaneous. Living in earthquake rich territory makes this app indespensable. When I feel shaking I open the app and within minutes have magnitude, location, depth, and distance from where I am. No frills, just solid science and up to the minute seismic information..Version: 3.8
Fabulous AppThis should be on everyone’s phone or tablet right beside their favorite weather app! I have been using this app for years, and it just keeps getting better. There is so much to learn from QuakeWatch. Real-time information always fascinates me. I highly recommend this excellent app..Version: 3.7
Lots of information in great formI've been using this app a couple of years. It is very scientific and super interesting. I'm not in an earthquake zone but if I was on the west coast this would be an app I would use everyday. The interface could not be better. The developers hit a homerun! Great work Quakewatch!.Version: 3.6.2
Closest/NearestGood app., but Closest and Nearest mean the same thing. So why are they BOTH tabs along with Latest and Biggest. Which are vastly different unlike closest and nearest which like I said are the same thing, exactly. We don’t need both just Latest and Biggest and Closest OR Nearest..Version: 3.8
Reliable and EasyI have used this app for years and it is very reliable and easy to use. I’m from Southern California and my family lives in Northern California. As soon as I feel movement I start checking the app to see where and how big it was. Love it..Version: 3.6.2
Nice app and easy to useLove the layout and functionality, but as one other reviewer pointed out, it could use the push notifications so that we can locate the most recent quakes on the app..Version: 3.8
One of the bestHave used this app for over 5 years its accurate and not hard to navigate its my choice because I live in SanBernardino on top the san andereas fault.Version: 3.6.1
Works great every time!I’ve had this app for ages and it works great every time. I just felt an earthquake, opened the app & it shows where, when & how strong. Thanks for making this app!.Version: 3.7
Quake watchI’ve had this app since it was first released. I’m very pleased with its ease of use and functionality..Version: 3.8
Great, Unless You Live in HawaiiEasy to use, lots of data, but never shows the quakes that hit Hawaii. We had a 5.3 yesterday, that didn't show up on the app. No idea why; a couple of years ago Hawaii quakes showed up, but not now..Version: 3.7
Super Great AppThis is such a great App. So simple to use & customize. Latest info is posted rather quickly. Lots of great features. Best 0.99¢ I’ve ever spent..Version: 3.7
The app has stopped updatingWe're still getting sizable aftershocks post 7.1 earthquake in California, including a 5.5, and no mention of it in the app, despite refreshing it several times..Version: 3.7
Could use tweeksI’d like to be able to filter ‘depths’ of quakes like you can richter scale. that would allow a better view of the more dangerous shallow quakes of 20km or less, and where and when they occur..Version: 3.8
Great appIf you want to keep track of earth quakes around they globe, this is the app to have!.Version: 3.8
Great appI tried quite few apps. I love this app easy and well designed.Version: 3.6.2
Great but no Twitter integration?Love this app but for some reason cannot share it on Twitter! Why not?.Version: 3.6.1
Once again a great update!!Looks amazing on iPad!! Thanks👍😍👌 aloha. Love the fun facts best earthquake app in da world !!.Version: 3.6.2
Terrific app for keeping tabs on earthquake activityThe developer of QuakeWatch has put together a terrific app that pulls in all the features needed, and then some, for keeping up with earthquakes around the world. Filters for distance, strength and location enable the users to select just the data desired. The GUI is outstanding! It is simple to use; the features are available with one click access; maps are clear and zoom capable; the extensive data set from US Geological Survey site is organized into a meaningful and manageable format. I am an earth science teacher and have found this app very functional as well as fun. It has brought to my finger tips a wealth of earthquake information for presenting virtually live info on earthquakes events anywhere in the world. The students love learning about the earthquake nearest our location as well as discovering the the most recent and strongest quake..Version: 0
Inaccuracies. In accurate information and names of towns and regions names omission in the world map..Version: 3.8
Great appWorks well.Version: 3.7
Great appSimple, free, and works well..Version: 3.7
Excellent!Very useful..Version: 3.8
Great Layout but very delayed & No AlertI really love this app. It has the best and easiest layout of all the quake apps. It has a lot of information that's easy to access. However I just noticed recently that the information is delayed a lot of times, sometimes by hours and a few times it was more than a day. It didn't used to be like that. Please fix this issue. Also what would make this app a lot greater is if it had an alert that you can set for earthquakes happening around you. With a cool alert sound. The other thing that would be really cool is if the fault lines were added to the map. That would take a little time but it would be nice to just have the major ones on the map, at least in California. I would definitely like to delete my other earthquake apps, but they're the only one that alerts me with a voice that says "an earthquake has occurred!" And the other has a map of the faults. Would be nice to have it all in one app. If you could very soon, add an alert option at least, that would make this a 5 star rated app. I look forward to the next update..Version: 3.5
University of Tulsa Geology Major 30 yrs agoFascinating! You've come a long way baby from the days of Fortran & Cobalt & computer punch cards. Sorry missed the ride. Had twins & they were all consuming! But they & their friends are all in the business of oil & gas drilling, exploration, energy management, leasing, & producing. So like the exponential difference between EQ RS ratings, by having twins, the world will benefit from the domino effect. The general public thinks our earth is not supposed to move. They will get educated! This APP is top notch, new info, & geared for everyone. I posted to FaceBook..Version: 2.4.2
Quake Watch 🌎This is one of my favorite apps! EVER! I have learned so much about the earth and how very active it really is from the surface to the core! Here in Oklahoma, we have experienced a marked increase in seismic activity over the past few years. This app. details the different types, causes and consequences of different types of quakes! I have learned so much. The quake occurrence information is updated immediately all the stats and info you could ever think of relating to each quake! You set the parameters! It's amazing. If you love learning about this living home, our Earth, get this app.... TODAY! I love the inclusion of tsunamis, volcanoes and maps of all things related to dynamic surface of our planet. 🌟 TEACHERS🌟 this would be great for students to have on their tablets, so much educational material is included! The maps are interactive and the resolution is outstanding! THANK YOU!.Version: 3.4
Great feature setI recently moved out west after living in Florida most of my life and I instantly became paranoid about being caught off guard by an earthquake. This app keeps me up-to-date by the minute plus provides (recent) historical data, thus quelling my fears (almost) completely. Quake Watch provides incredible detail about seismic activity and even links you right up with USGS for even more "stuff" such as easy to understand scientific data and even tsunami alerts and details. I also have the "Earthquakes" app and it pales in comparison to all you get with Quake Watch. Thanks for the peace of mind you provide with this app..Version: 2.7.1
Fabulous - Still!!! 🎉🎉👍Still fabulous and the customer support is fabulous as well... I emailed about the USGS feed, it stopped working and I got a reply on the best way to fix the issue in a couple of hours! Great app and I've been using it for at lest 4 years. The best one that I've found! You can set up this app to see the data you want and filter what you don't. It has additional data that can be set, not just USGS. They also provide the links in the app to set up email/ test notifications. For EQ or Tsunami's. Highly recommended. I just wish the Pacific Rim wasn't split on the map-that's the most active area..Version: 3.4
Outstanding EQ-related appThe app is a wonder! In terms of graphics, information presented, and user-friendly flexibility, an unconditional FIVE STARS. In clever, completely accessible ways, the app goes far beyond mere info lists: it is an indispensable tool for those who want or need to know the latest on world seismicity. Its personalization options bring all the rich, up-to-the-minute data home to the user. And it's an app for the world, not just the USA or a single region, using the now-familiar Google interface and techniques. To the developer: many thanks for your innovations, insights, and creativity!.Version: 0
The one I come back to....I keep trying other quake apps when the come out, just to see if anyone can make quake app function better in some way, but they never do. I have used this app for about three years or maybe longer, and it is always the one I keep installed when I delete the others. This one just works for me on my iPad 4. There are one or two others that I like, but things like the satellite imagery not rendering properly or quickly enough when I zoom in and out are just not problems that I ever have with THIS app. So, this one is the keeper for me!.Version: 3.2
Excellent coverage and customizationThere is a lot in this app that is useful for those of us in earthquake regions. When I feel a quake I like to guess the magnitude and the fault based on my estimate of the distance between the P and S waves. It's a hobby I picked up by living near California's San Andreas fault and a bunch of faults in Southcentral Alaska. This app gets me answers more conveniently than Websites. I'm a bit mystified about the app's connection to the USGS earthquake notification system. It seems to me that if a quake is big enough to be concerned about then your dishes will be on the floor and you may not need an email notification..Version: 2.7.4
Fantastic appWith relatives in Japan and living near several faults in SF Bay Area myself, this app is an essential. Sometimes scary until the relatives are reached, but comforting to see that the intensity and frequency are easing over time. For the question about Arkansas--Fracting is what is happening. Oil companies force water under pressure deep into the rock below to reach the oil and gas. It causes quakes, which they deny are linked. But the same thing happened in Basel, Switzerland, some years ago and in the Geysers Area, Cal. Last year. Some people think others are stupid..Version: 2.4.1
Just one problem with this appAwesome application ..... I think most should have this specially the people near coastal areas..... Better to be safe then sorry ..... This app helped me to develope a more accurate way to predict large earthquakes etc !!!!! I also would like to see on this application the depth of the earthquakes on the list right now I have to open each earthquake to view the depth of the quake ... The one major problem is for ppl like me is metric I illiterate I would like to see the option in settings for the US measuring as well as metric.....Version: 2.5
A must have if you live in an earthquake prone areaLiving in So. California this application is an absolute must! I turn it on immediately when the earth starts shaking and get detailed info faster than any news channel can give you. Less than a minute after we had a big one on Easter Sunday I knew how far we were from the epicenter and how big the quake was - while my chandelier was still swinging... this app is on my first page since then. Thanks for creating such a great app!.Version: 0
Excellent and usefulThis is a great app. It's a very handy way to access the USGS earthquake information from your phone. Actually, I think it's easier to use the app than it is to check the actual USGS web page. I contacted the developer with feedback and suggestions, and heard back from him very quickly. It sounds like he is planning on making some excellent changes and additions to the program that will only make it better. Highly recommended!.Version: 0
Quake watch something happened 3 weeks ago and USGS is not working. Therefore I get no info on US.Speaking from Anchorage Alaska, it's wonderful to have such quick access to information when you feel that random bump in the night, or the room starts shaking. Since most of the buildings are earthquake supported, the floors, especially in the larger buildings can vibrate with the heavy equipment rolling by. This app is especially helpful when we get that 4.0+ quake, and we feel the extra sway of the trusses! Love this app.Version: 3.4
It's okThere are a few different options out there when it comes to earthquake monitoring apps, and based on what I'd read, I thought this was the best. However, after purchasing it I have a few misgivings with the biggest being that this app just loads the USGS website! I can do that myself, and save the money. Especially since it loads the site into a tiny window that is amazingly difficult to read. If you want all your earthquake info aggregated into one place, this app will do that, but you can get the exact same info from the various websites, for free..Version: 0
Worth Every Penny!I've been searching for a seismology app for quite a while now, and have really had difficulty finding one that is, well, good. I stumbled across the Quakewatch app in a magazine and read the well-written article on it. I decided to take a chance and spend the 99¢ on it. How glad I am I did! The app is great, easy to use and navigate through, and has a plethora of information on each quake, including intensity, depth, time and location. It's truly worth every penny. Well done, Quakewatch!.Version: 3.2
Great appI check this app at least twice a day. I live in earthquake country so I am always curious to know where the world is shaking and bouncing. The only frustrating thing is not being able to see the whole Pacific Ocean but I understand that comes from using the Google maps. One thing that would be nice is an archive, as the app only shows about 24 hours of events. Another would be to sort by location using a variable radius from one quake..Version: 3.0
Rated 5* before the updateThis app is awesome! It you are interested in earthquakes this will give you all the info you want and more. And the new map is so great. Just tap the map to zoom in. This app deserves more than a five rating. The update now shows quakes under 2.5 which makes the list a lot longer so if any improvement is needed it would be the option to turn off the under 2.5 Best app for the money.Version: 0
This App Rocks and Rolls! With earthquake activity and acuity rising this is a MUST HAVE APP regardless of where you live!! I utilize it several times a day, since I live next to the San Andreas Fault. It's nice to have access to all the data points I look for in a single app. I love being able to see the site of the quake on a GPS map. The ease of use, strong graphics, and links to sister EQ and Tsunami warning sites world wide, this is a fantastic tool that leaves the others in the dust. >^..^< F.Version: 3.4
My go to earthquake appI live in an earthquake prone area on the north coast of California. There was a hiccup recently with the USGS feeds, but the response of the developer corrected the issue. I have been using this app for several years, and I have tried others to track earthquakes. This app has been my go to app because it gives me the local coverage I want. Props to the developer for being responsive to issues. I like the pin colors that vary with magnitudes.👍.Version: 3.4
Great application of technology! This app exemplifies the benefits of bringing different technologies together to change how we see our world. Living in Southern California, I put this on my iPhone's home page years ago and often show it to people when I am traveling. The way the app slices and dices the data is great, allowing you quick access to what is locally relevant and well as a global view. Definitely a "must have" app for global citizens..Version: 3.4
Great eartquake appAfter reading a bunch of reviews, I chose this quake app and I'm glad I did. Seems to have everything you could want. Even though it doesn't have push notifications it does include clear instructions re setting up earthquake notifications via email/SMS directly from the USGS, which is ideal since that's where the data is coming from anyway..Version: 0
Love this app!First review for me, I just had to let others looking at getting this app know that it is really great. Clean, and easy to use and the update made it even better. Worth every cent. I use this app several times daily. Perhaps a link section to see fault lines, and other earthquake maps, like IRIS Seismic Monitor can be added in the future. Still, I'm really happy to have gotten this app..Version: 0
Good, yet a few things could improve itI like this app, very interesting info. However, if the developers could make the google map more able to move around, as when there is a quake on it's edge of the map, say around NZ, it's not possible to move the map over that area. That's the first thing I'd like them to do. The second thing is to be able to see more history, going back. Maybe a setting to do that would be possible. Other than those two matters, I like it, and recommend it..Version: 2.4.2
Link to Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre does Not WorkI love this app but for the past few weeks the link to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre doesn’t work. I just get a white screen. Please fix..Version: 3.8
All the info I needThis app does exactly what it says it will which is exactly what I need it to. Very up to date, easy to use and very inexpensive. I had a minor issue and the developer was incredibly quick to respond with a fix..Version: 3.7
Best out of the bunch, but...Best, most quickly updated earthquake app out there, however I’m not always checking this app and I am not notified for the quakes that are in my proximity... This brings me to be paranoid, checking multiple times a day to ease my mind. I wish I could get immediate push notifications to a specific range that I can adjust to monitor quakes via alerts instead of actively checking. Am I missing something or is this app lacking?.Version: 3.7
Wonderful APPThis APP is a "Benchmark" for all other "EarthQuake, Tusnami Warning Report APPs". This APP provides excellent information covering the entire world. This APP will allow the user to modify their own specific requirements. The screens are excellent and very user friendly to read and follow. The APP loads very quickly and moves from screen to screen easily. Very well done, many thanks..Version: 2.4.2
THE BESTJust add Canada.Version: 2.3.1
Helpful vacation planning toolA series of earthquakes in Italy. Should we cancel our vacation and avoid the entire country? With this app I can see exactly where the recent quakes are, so we know which region to avoid. It's an odd use, but it's really helpful to us. I like the 'replay' feature, which gives particular insight into recent earthquake activity. Shows all earthquakes worldwide as it draws from a wide variety of sources. A very good piece of design and programming..Version: 3.4
Excellent App!!This is an excellent app. We had a moderate earthquake locally last night. The app had gathered and displayed all the pertinent information within minutes and continued updating itself as new information became available. Well done!.Version: 3.4
WonderfulThis app is a must have , before during and after both of our trips to Japan it was very comforting to know what's up instantly. Living in Vancouver on the west coast of North America everyone should have this app we remain on the ring of fire!.Version: 3.1
Excellent AppExcellent app, good be made "out of this world" if warning of earthquakes or tsunamis can be sent out as they happen when in an affected area..Version: 2.7.4
CoolGood app.Version: 2.7
Love it!I used to have to search multiple sites and here it is all in one!.Version: 2.5
Grear App!Love this App..I check it every day for where earthquakes are happening. The map view is especially interesting. This app has lots of legitimately good and current information. Well done!.Version: 2.4.5
