ThriftBooks: New & Used Books Customer Service

I have accidentally used my free book rewards on Ex-library copies before and the condition will say “Like New or VeryGood” and I will get them and half of the front cover design will be missing. I wonder to myself what makes these LikeNew or Very Good. Honestly if it says Ex-library STAY FAR WAYDON’T TOUCH IT WITH A 10 FOOT POLE. Also if you are not using a book reward and you simply purchase and Ex-library book there are NO refunds, I sent back a few books that I wanted refunded because they were NOT LN or VG quality. even if you explain to the help desk person that the item is not LikeNew or in VeryGood quality They will say you should have known the risk you were taking when buying a discounted Ex-library copy. Love the site and the book rewards but it gets exhausting scouring the site to find something for the book rewards. First you have to spend 150$ to be eligible to receive a book 7$ or under for free. I find it mind boggling for the other reward tiers the second one you have to spend 75$ to get a free book that is 6$ or lower and the free one is 5$ or lower. Good luck finding a book that is under 6$, is in Very Good or Like New condition and isn’t a Ex-library book. Sometimes I don’t even bother with the free book reward thing cause it take me SO long to find anything that I would actually want to redeem my reward on.

I LOVE thriftbooks for their incredible prices and large selection. Their customer service is great, every time I’ve had an issue they have resolved it quickly and satisfactorily! The only reason for 4 stars is their quality control is SO unpredictable. I’ve ordered a book in “acceptable” condition (the worst condition out of their options) and the book arrived in brand new, untouched condition. On the other hand, I’ve ordered a book in “like new” condition (their top quality option) and received a 30 year old edition that was falling apart and covered in stains. This unfortunately happens often here. A lot of library books slip through the cracks too (there is an indicator on the website that tells you if you’re purchasing a used library book). Multiple times I have ordered a book not specified to be library, and I receive a library book. I’ve also twice received “unedited proof” copies of books. Like I said at the beginning, their customer service is incredible and has always sent me replacements or refunds if replacements are not available. I will never stop ordering from thriftbooks, but the unpredictable condition of books is very frustrating.

I found this website/app during COVID lockdown. I usually either buy books used from Goodwill or rent from the library, neither of which was a good option for COVID. My library is also kinda hard to get to, and unless you’re just looking for any book to read, is hard to find specific books. I love this app even more than Goodwill or the library! I love that I can find pretty much any book on here, even if it’s new, and I can choose what kind of book (paper or hardback) and the range of pricing. I even found a college textbook or two that I needed. To make it even better, the company supports several charities and offers good employee benefits, or at least they claim to on their website:). And you get free shipping on orders over $10, which, let’s be real, is super easy to achieve when the books are usually around $5. Every purchase gives you points and once you get a certain amount of points, you get a free book under $5, plus shipping. I wish I knew about this in high school, it would have made finding the required reading much easier and cheaper. I highly recommend this app to anyone who doesn’t mind a pre loved book and who loves to read.

I would like to start off by saying that this app is absolutely amazing! I love how low priced the books are and that you can choose from new, like new, very good, good, and acceptable, choosing the price and quality. I will say, when it says good, I was expecting better, but everyone is different so be careful when choosing. Just a suggestion to make the app better, you should have a category for recommend, like how there’s romance, fiction, young adult, sci-fi, and many more, you should add a recommended for you based off previous purchases and your wish list. Once again, just a suggestion. The only other thing I have noticed is that the app loads a lot slower than the website, so it’s not my WiFi, but the app. Just these minor adjustments would make this app 100% better.

Not only do you get books for cheap (they are used. Other than the ones labeled as new), but there are so many extra perks as well. First off, when buying a book, you have a number of choices of their quality rating new to poor. You also have choices of hardback, paperback, library binding, etc. Obviously the better the quality, the more they cost. I usually get great or good which are about $4-$5. The new books are usually a little about $10 but that’s still a lot cheaper than you would get it anywhere else. I can’t remember if you need to make a profile to buy anything but I don’t think you do. If you do make one though, your purchases give you points, the more you buy the more points you get. Once you hit a certain number of points, you get awarded with a free book. Also, when it is your birthday month, they will email you a notification telling you you can get a free book then too! It’s absolutely amazing! On my latest purchase I bought nine books for only about $25 dollars! Which reminds me, if you buy (if I remember correctly) $10 worth of books, you get free shipping and tax! You may get free tax no matter what but I wouldn’t know bc I always buy at least a few books at a time. Even if you’re just looking for one book, I would say it’s definitely worth spending an extra buck or two on another book that you’re eyeing just to get free shipping and tax. I love this app/site!!

This company offers so many books and at such great prices. I have read quite a few bad reviews on the quality of the books. I am not very interested with the quality as much as the price myself, but even the cheapest book quality is pretty good quality! I love the points system used in the app that allows you to get free books after a certain amount of purchases. Shipping isn’t particularly fast around 4 or 5 days is pretty standard though. I have only had one issue with the books not being shipped to my home. When I contacted customer service they gave me a full refund and told me if the books end up showing up to keep them free of charge. It was an incredibly nice jester, especially when it ended up being the post office’s fault not theirs. I highly recommend buying through Thrift Books!

I love ThriftBooks! I can search tons or second hand books straight from my phone. I am able to buy so many books! I have bought TONS of books from this site. I would never be able to afford so many books if I bought them brand new from a the store. And buying peoples gently used books is a great way to recycle. Plus since I save so much money I’m able to try out new authors or genres I wouldn’t normally be able to which has helped me expand my horizons. It’s fun to try new things. The books usually** come in very good condition. Great experiences so far with ThriftBooks. **Occasionally you’ll get a dud book that is is pretty bad condition but for me personally it’s been few and far between and the customer service is good go I’m sticking with 5 stars.**

That’s the motto, and I’ve been able to get books I’ve been wanting to read at a huge fraction of the cost. Even books that are posted as “Like New” are less than $5. Hardcover, too. I recently got a $50 gift certificate and was able to buy 12 hardcover books, whereas if I had bought them new, in paperback, I would’ve been able to get maybe 5. I’ve recently ordered 2 “Acceptable” books, and have yet to receive them, but there’s a list of what each rating means, so you’ll have an idea of what you’re purchasing. The app, itself, is basically a shortcut to the website, which is fine because with the app, you get 100 points towards a free book with your first app purchase. I’ve already redeemed one free book and looking forward to redeeming more. Thanks you, ThriftBooks.

Seeing all the reviews as so negative and all made me doubt Thriftbooks. After ordering on mobile and giving them a chance y’all are just really unlucky. I ordered 12 books, all in either “Good” edition or above, for 45 bucks. Let’s start with shipping. Placed the ordered on Wednesday and all them were accepted and shipped out the next day. One book was from Maryland which is near my state for it came Monday, which is like 3 business days. The rest are from facilities towards the West coast so it took extra days and I got them all today, which is 6 business days. Tracking the packages from different states were up to date and the t asking number was available within 24 hours. Considering that fact I got free shipping AND they said it was a 4-8 business day shipping duration AND reliable tracking, let’s just say shipping is 5/5. Now on to quality. All 12 books came intact and they were exactly what I ordered. Obviously some were old and had yellow pages but that was pretty much it. No spine breaking, stains, ripped pages or whatsoever damages. Honestly the “worst” book I got was slightly blended, which was probably because of the packaging, but quality wise they exceed the quality that their condition said they were. There are stickers in which they but on the spine on book but it’s really easy to take off and aren’t that sticky to the book to the point it will rip off the spine covering. This was my first time ordering on Thriftbooks app and I’m just really satisfied and amazed by their service. I guess I was lucky compared to most customers that have used this website in the past year. However, for my experience with ThriftBooks it’s been a pleasure and I hope others would have the same experience too.

ThriftBooks is by far the best thing that has been suggested to me. I’ve been buying books off of their websites for years but their app makes it so much easier. The have a huge selection usually for under 5$ and free shipping for purchases over 10$ in the US. If you are a member every purchase you get accumulates points to get a free book and just recently they gave their members a free book (just pay shipping which was like a dollar). Every book has been in great condition and the most worn one I’ve gotten was that it had writing in it (I actually loved it more bc it showed the soul of someone who had loved it before me). Anyone this is me rambling but long story short use ThriftBooks, use the app and you will not regret it, I haven’t.

I’ve used ThriftBooks for nearly a decade and have recommended it to my friends and family. I always find fantastic deals and their point-earning system works great. I’ve only encountered an issue once with the quality of the book I received but it was resolved quickly. Regarding the app, please allow for a user to select the default Sort type for their respective Wish Lists. Also, add a “back to results” link on a book’s page after a user selects a book from their Wish List. It’s time consuming to have to navigate all the back to the Wish List, sort, and then go to the specific page of that list after selecting a book to browse.

I really really love this app. Not sure what the negative reviews are about. Clearly you are buying used books. That’s exactly what it says and that’s exactly what it is.... used. All the books I’ve received so far are in the condition stated. For under 5$ for most books, you can’t beat getting a book in good condition plus free shipping on orders of 10$ or more. I compare prices with other sites and nothing compares to ThriftBooks. The ones with negative reviews maybe you need to shop at a bookstore to actually look at your books, pay more, and use gas to get there. For me, I’ll stick with ThriftBooks. I don’t think I could recommend a better way of buying books! Especially new books that have just come out and are WAY over priced! Thriftbooks will sell them in New, Like New, Very Good, Good and Acceptable conditions. They also sell some DVDs or audio versions of the books you love! And after your shopping cart hits $10 your shipping is free! That must be a crime!? And after you buy a certain amount of books, you get a free book! It only took me about 2 orders from Thriftbooks and then on my second order I was able to get a free book! It was awesome! 10/10 would recommend this app a thousand times over! I got all of my favorite books that I’ve been wanting over the years in just 2 orders! And I intend to get more.

I was scrolling around on Reddit looking for a credible site to buy books from and came upon thriftbooks. I was suspicious at first because how the heck is a book $4?? I placed my order, very skeptically. To my surprise, my books came in after a week! That started a chain of me buying books almost everyday. I stalk this website and i go to bookstores and add the books in my list because of the amazing deals they have. Nightingale by Kristin Hannah was around $22 at Barnes and Nobles and on thriftbooks, under $8! I’m very pleased that there is a app so i don’t have to keep logging in. I’m a new reader as well and trying to fill up my bookcase with good reads. Thank you thriftbooks!!!

I like this company! And I would recommend it to many people. I have purchased most of my books from here, and it has helped me out a lot when it comes to saving money. I would’ve given this a 5/5 but I don’t agree with being sold items that are severely damaged. I think it’s unethical and shouldn’t be given to someone else. I understand that there are different conditions to choose from. Such as new, like new, good, and acceptable. What’s acceptable or good to someone else might not fit my expectation(s) or others. So whenever you guys order something please be sure to pay attention to the conditions. Other than that happy shopping (:

My 7 year old and myself love to read. It can be a costly joy. This app has allowed us to purchase and read all sorts of books. I’ve bought a bunch of books over the last few months or so without compliant. I’m not too picky on the condition of the books as I pass most on or donate them when I’m done. As long as they’re not tore up and readable, I’m happy. I’ve not gotten any books that are greatly different than the description however. My only gripe is the shipping can be slow, it is free with 10$ purchase, but it sometimes takes well over a week/week and a half to get our books. But it won’t stop me from using the app.

I’ve been using thriftbooks for a few years now. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE it. If you’re someone who’s always buying books or dvds, this is something you have to have in your life. I constantly have a free book reward because of how many books I acquire. Textbooks, novels, everything is almost always cheaper on here. Sometimes the condition of the books aren’t perfect, but that’s kind of the point in thrifting. You can find old editions that you wouldn’t be able to find in stores. And get updates on when your wish list items are in stock.

I love Thriftbooks. Probably too much! I order books from the app constantly. Books almost always arrive in the expected condition. My only issue with the company is the sticker they put on the binding of every book. Sometimes I can get them to come off easily, but with some books they either don’t come off or they damage the book when removing them. I don’t want to look at a book shelf and see a million Thriftbooks stickers on the bindings! Other than that I love the company and have greatly increased my book collection because of Thriftbooks.

I am a ThriftBooks fan girl. I’ve been using their service for years. I only have two complaints about the app. Sometimes you need to change the format of your search to find the title you’re looking for and the pages lock between you’re last two pages when attempting to go backwards. This means I often have to restart a search after looking a different editions. It makes the experience slightly annoying at times but the actual books, shipping times, and service is great.

I love books, so naturally I love this amazing app. Some people complain about how you can order one quality and get a different one, and I want to give advice for that. I ordered “House” by Ted Dekker in Like New condition, and when it arrived (literally, not a joke or exaggeration) the last 30 pages of the book were just not there. I thought the book ended on a cliffhanger, but nope. Anyway, i emailed ThriftBooks about the problem, and they sent me a new one for free. So, if you ever order a quality and get a worse one, just email them. This is a great app with great customer service.

Great company to my knowledge and experience. I’ve been ordering books for a while through ThriftBooks and have always been satisfied. Customer service has resolved an issue for me and did more than necessary to resolve it. I’m very thankful and hope we can make everyone that works at ThriftBooks rich! The app is easy to navigate and worth the download. Their point system is pretty cool/rewarding too. REMEMBER, we vote with our dollar. This is the type of people : company relations we should be supporting! So I hope you do too.

I do most of my book shopping with thriftbooks bc of their customer service. eBay sellers are the worst. However, I really wish they packaged their books much more securely than just throwing them in a thin plastic books. Those bags get holes all the time and if it rains that “like new” book gets delivered like it was dug up from a swamp. But they do have reasonable prices for the most part. Also wish that I knew which cover I ordered. Sometimes the picture online doesn’t match up with the item received and that can be really annoying.

Thriftbooks itself is superb and this app is fast improving. Their free shipping for orders over $10, points system with frequent free books, and on the ball, no-nonsense shipping times makes shopping with ThriftBooks pleasure. The visual interface and clearly demarcated hierarchies for book editions and conditions in this app is good and only continues to be further polished. Search function seems to slip some results through the cracks at times, and there are still moments where I revert to their site. Regardless: thriftbooks are leading the charge and carving a niche for used-bookstores of the future. Rave on, my thrifty, bookish domain darling. I’m a fan.

I have previously given a 5 star review. I wanted to come back and let everyone know how great their customer service is. So I placed an order recently and I received a book with mold. I contacted customer service by email to let them know about the moldy book. They responded the next day to let me know that they were shipping me a replacement and to not worry about returning the moldy book, which I had already thrown away. I am even more pleased with this company. They will have me as a customer as long as they are in business.

I am not an avid reader unless I’m really interested in the topic. I love Thrift Books because I can look up the exact book I want, even if it’s a lesser-known title, they usually have it! I have never spent more than $6 (before tax and shipping) on a book so far, and I choose the good/very good quality options. With my wide range of interests that are ever-changing, this is a nice place to find any genre really. I found an uncommon book at a thrift store a while back, loved it so much that I wanted to buy another and gift it to a friend. I was able to find it on Thrift Books and order it along with 3 other books I wanted for myself, all for $21. (free shipping on orders over $15) Heck, $21 for 3 books that I’ll get to enjoy, a unique and personal gift for a friend, saving a trip to the book store, putting perfectly good books to use (eco-friendly) and saving money?? yes please😎

Just put in my first order for two books, will update review on how shipping and condition is. Shipping cost is very reasonable for Canada. 4/5 as app is as other review says, clunky. 1) app makes you sign back in each time instead of loading you profile from the first screen, it loads when you want to add to cart or favorite. Then you can’t go back and have to research the subject again. 2) I wish I could favorite the collectibles category for potential future purchase just like the regular books.

Made my first order on this app, there’s a lot of selection of books to choose from. Only downside is that it’s USD but that’s ok with me.

I have purchased at least 25 books from here, ranging from kids books, hunting, trapping, physics, trees. The prices are always fair, in fact I’d go as far to say unreal. The reward system is great, because you can get great books under 10$ for free. 5/5 stars easily. Instead of buying books on Amazon, download the ThriftBooks app.

Books are attractively priced and very competitive compared to other vendors. The app is clunky and tends to be slow.

I ordered a few books from this company and I never received them in the mail, contacted them if they could track them which they couldn’t unfortunately. They gave me a complete refund and told me not to worry about it if I ended up getting them. I got one of them today and will be donating it as soon as I’m done:) who knows maybe the others will pop up (can’t blame a company for the shipping especially during the whole corona situation!)

The app is acceptable, but it’s difficult to navigate. There’s a lot of detail in your face immediately. The UI could be simplified to look cleaner. I appreciate the app because it’s allowed me to sell books instead of donating them to the local library (which in a rural area is severely lacking and they don’t seem to care about adding books to their stock) or Goodwill to probably be recycled however, the process is convoluted. I find it strange that certain ISBNs aren’t able to be located whether I type it in or scan it. I also wish there were two views when using the buyback feature, not just sorting options. An “eligible” view and “ineligible” view, separate by a tab, organized in a table format. Additionally, I finally accepted my first buy back order — yay! And when I saw the printing label, there was no option to print or save directly from the page/app. I checked my email and hadn’t received one at the time, so I had to screenshot all applicable pages. My printer is old so I’m worried it will be blurry once printed. Once I did finally get the email, I clicked the link for buyback details and it opened in browser instead of the app, prompting me to log in but apparently I don’t have the password saved to my phone. So I wasn’t able to find the buyback details, even when leaving the browser and going back to the app. I think if there’s concern about people reusing shipping labels, that it should still be visible in the app until the package is shipped. I loved ThriftBooks and had no complaints up until last month. I was $22 away from reaching the next reading tier, so I purchased a pre-order book ($27). The money was taken out of my account. I contacted customer support to clarify that the purchase would count towards bumping me into the next tier. I was assured that I would be and had nothing to worry about, I just had to wait till Jan 1 and I would be in the new tier. Well a week or two went by in 2026, and I still wasn’t in the new tier so I contact support again. This time I was informed the purchase didn’t count and I’d have to spend the $450 in books to reach the new level. I sent the messages between the first support team showing what I was told and was they again said the same thing “it doesn’t count”. On top of this, three of the books I have purchased in “very good” condition have shown up with many marks, chewed up spots, folded pages, discoloration, and creased front covers. One of these was a Christmas present as well. I am deeply disappointed with the misleading information customer service provided, the lack of trying to make it right, and the now third book that came in worse shape than what I was expecting for “very good” condition. I will still use ThriftBooks on occasion but have started using other used book sites like AbeBooks. Where I found a “like new” “The book of Azrael” for $9 cheaper than ThriftBooks “very good” version of it.

I love ThriftBooks and I order from them all the time but I can’t use the app to buy anything. Maybe it’s because I registered for an account long before the app existed that all log-ins fail, if I’d registered with the app first maybe it would work. It wants a password but of course it doesn’t take the one I use for the website. Using the link in the app to reset the password causes them to send me an email with a link that takes me to the website where I have a working password. Changing my password there changes the website password but not the one for the app. There is simply no way I’ve found that I can create a password for the app that’s connected to my website based account and I’m not willing to sign up for a new account using another email account. It’s frustrating but fascinating in a way because even though the app won’t let me login, (so you’d think I was anonymous) the items I put in the cart mysteriously are in my cart when I login through the website, the only place I can checkout. Just to add another layer of irritation there is a teaser at the bottom of the app’s screen that says I can get an extra 100 points if I use the app to buy books. I would if I could.

I used to love this website & app. I’ve purchased countless books for myself and my 3 year old daughter. However, after the most recent purchase, I’ve decided I would never order again. They clearly don’t check quality or even look at the book for that matter. I ordered a holiday book for my little one, and it was supposedly in “good” condition. When my order arrived, that particular book was not in good condition at all, but I didn’t mind; I know I’m ordering used. The issue that changed my mind completely was when I flipped through the book and found a dirty, used bandaid inside the back cover! Had I not checked beforehand my 3 year old could have gotten ahold of a strangers old bandaid, complete with dried blood and all. I reached out to the company, horrified, and I got some generic response about how they were sorry I wasn’t satisfied and I would get my money back. They didn’t even address the issue of the disgusting used bandaid and have since sent emails asking me to rate them. Thanks for the reminder ThriftBooks! Here’s the rating, and I hope no one else gets something as disgusting with your zero quality, non-checked books that are being sent out! RETHINK BEFORE YOU PLACE AN ORDER!

…the quality of the books is starting to slip! I’ve been a ThriftBooks user for about a year and a half now. I’ve bought both new and used books, but mostly used. My last order included a book that was deemed “acceptable” quality, but I’m going to have to replace it as soon as I can locate a better copy. It smells like a wet, moldy basement and is so filthy, I felt compelled to shake it out in case there was critters in between the pages. There’s very visible water damage on more than half of the pages and should NEVER have been listed as acceptable. I wish ThriftBooks would list the name or some sort of ID of the seller, so I can avoid deceptive sellers like this. With that being said, I’ve ordered many books from ThriftBooks (and received several free ones!) and issues like the one above have been very few until recently (another book from the same order was RIFE with notes, highlighting, and underlying). I’ll continue to order from ThriftBooks.

*NOTE* My review is not of THRIFTBOOKS, but of the THRIFTBOOKS APP. The app is trash, but thriftbooks as a whole is great, and worth checking out online if you’re new to them. I love Thriftbooks, and while they’re not always the best price for certain books, I’ve never had a problem with the quality of books I’ve received, and the prices are often far better than anywhere else online. They’re decent books for good prices. You can choose the quality of book for a variant of prices, add books to a wishlist and opt for notifications when the books you’d like are available. However, their app is trash. While the app was severely buggy before, now it won’t even load. It times out and crashes before I even get the option to log in. I don’t want to have to go onto the internet, load up their website, and re-log in every time I want to glance at my wishlist and tell my friends. It’s not worth the time, and the mobile website is frustrating to navigate. I talk about books A LOT, and the app used to be so convenient. Now, it’s entirely unusable. I’ve tried redownloading the app multiple times on multiple different occasions, and the same thing always happens. It is entirely compatible with my phone, and nothing has fixed it. All I can hope is that this bug will be repaired soon! In summary: the app isn’t worth it. Check out and order your books on the website, when you happen to be seated at a computer.

First let me say the app is wonderful. Haven’t had any problems. Ordered on Monday received on Saturday. I live in Arizona so most of facilities are not that far from me. So I made my first purchase... I bought 8 different types of books. The thing with this is you can’t see the books or SMELL them!!! I bought hard cover books. I also bought a variety of books so that I can see what condition each of the books were in by their standards. I bought 2 like new books. Only one of them was like new. The other one had highlights throughout the book. Now the one that really bothered me was the fact that they would ship a book that smells like Mold. It smells like it was stored in wet moldy basement. This was the very good condition book. Very disappointed. My other very good condition book looks like some spilled something on the front cover of the book. Finally the good condition book was in better condition than the like new book, despite the highlights in the book. I’m a serious book collector. If I pick a book that’s like new. I would think that’s what I would receive. I’m scared to pay anything more than $4.99 for the books they have. I have books that’s $79 in my wish list... but I would refuse to pay that much for a book and get anything less than new. Don’t like markings in my books. Dust jacket needs to look like it was stored on a bookshelf and not a garage. Very disappointed with first purchase.

I’ve been isn’t ThriftBooks for a few years and there’s some pros and cons to it... Pros - Inexpensive used books you won’t find cheaper anywhere outside of a yard sale - A massive selection so you’re most likely going to find the book you need - Free shipping on orders of $10 or more (which is 3 books at their least expensive) Cons - Shipping is odd. No matter where the books ship from, they always follow the same insane route (EXAMPLE - Some books ship from Phoenix AZ, I live in Tucson less than two hours away yet the shipping always sends the books through Nevada and other states before it ends up back in AZ). This happens no matter where the books are being shipped from and a shipment that should take a day or two to reach two hours down the road takes an entire week. - The “Free Shipping” no longer includes the original price of the free books you’d earn in your rewards like it used to towards the free shipping limit - Their customer service is pretty much non-existent I do like ThriftBooks and I’ll continue to utilize them but their shipping methods are insanely awful. From someone who’s spent most of his career handling shipping and receiving issues, I really don’t understand why the shipments ALWAYS go for a multi-state tour when the delivery address is less than 120 miles down the road.

I love shopping from Thrift Books. Love it. The rewards program is stellar. The customer service is fabulous. And you can’t beat the prices. But using the app has become a very frustrating experience. They removed the “back” button, which is incredibly annoying. When you do a search and click to view one the search results, there is NO WAY to return to the search results. You have to re-do the search. When you are in your wish list and click to view an item, there is NO WAY to return to your wish list. You have to re-navigate back to your wishlist and scroll through the pages to find your previous spot. This is terribly frustrating and I’ve found myself using the app with less frequency than usual because of it. I really hope this is addressed soon.

I was using thrift books for years. I probably bought over 150 books through them. I used to love them. Now I have been having issues with them sending me the wrong books and customer service not even speaking to me. I ordered a murder mystery then got a book about “earthing” which is about walking barefoot, which I have no interest in and will not read. Tried talking to the live chat, they did not even have a conversation with me, my only reply was “You’re welcome, happy to help!” And they closed the chat. Help who? You didn’t even speak to me? When I contacted customer service email, they just said they were happy the live chat helped me?? No one is even reading the chats or emails, they are just sending bogus replies. I would not recommend and I will not shop her again. You are better off spending a little more with a company you can trust and will get you what you paid for.

I love thriftbooks and have used the website and app for years. The app has recently become very frustrating. There is no back/return button. I feel like there used to be one, but now nothing. If I’m searching for a book and click on it, there is a “back to search results” button. But, if I am looking at one of my orders, there’s no back button to take me back to the orders page. If I’m looking at a book and click on another from the “you might also enjoy” section, I can’t go back to the first book. It’s beyond annoying. More recently, when I’m looking at my orders, the tracking buttons are completely nonfunctional. It’s not my internet, and it’s not that it’s still waiting for shipping information. What I used to be able to see in the app, I now have to go to my email or on my computer for. I hope these issues can be handled.

First: I love ThriftBooks. I don’t want to use this space for nothing but a complaint. For we readers, ThriftBooks is a treasure trove of every genre. Over the past two decades, I have discovered, unearthed, learned, shared, evolved, on and on. Why is there no ‘back’ button? There’s no obvious way to go, well, BACK! to the page/we were just looking at! That’s such a simple, necessary thing, and yet, for reasons unknown, you’ve failed to include it. Makes no sense. You also seem to be ignoring the string of complaints about the missing button/option. To (sort ofI’ve been taking screenshots before clicking on books, because I know that getting back (there’s that word again) to whatever else among the recommendations I wanted to explore isn’t possible. Is not possible. And that’s ridiculous. Fix that. Please.

As a book lover I love thrift books for its prices and wide selection of books. Customer service is great and resolves issues with no hassle and quickly. Only issue I have is that about two or three times I’ve received books without dust cover even when it didn’t say anything about missing dustcover I wish they wouldn’t accept books without it and resell it it’s frustrating especially when it’s part of a collection or a series.I have contacted customer service where they said they’d send me another one with dust cover at no cost to me. When I received the book it was missing the dust cover again! I’ve also received a book at some point with writings and highlighted parts in it. A little highlighted part here and there don’t bother me I just hope I never get one that has a lot of that.

I love the app, I found all the books (7 in total) I was looking for, and the order got to me quick. However, I didn’t get any of the books I ordered. My name and address was on the package, but a bunch of random books were inside. I sent a message and they said they could give me a refund for some of the books and send new ones of the other books I was missing. It’s pretty disappointing because I was looking forward to this and I really wanted to like this app. So not only did I not get the books I wanted, I also won’t get replacements for them and I have to wait another 12 days for them to replace the two they said they could replace. Not impressed, that’s something that should not have happened if they did a good job with quality checks.

I’m done with thrift books after 8 out of every 10 books I order come in disgusting conditions! I only ever order Good, Very Good, or Like New conditions, and almost every time I receive something that should be in the “Acceptable” category. I’ve ordered “Like New” that specified a 2011 printed edition and instead received a 30 year old copy printed in the 80s that was stained and dog-eared. My most recent order was a “Good” and the book that came had ever inch covered in grime and had literal clumps of dog hair stuck to it… ew! After I complained to customer service, they were quick to send out a replacement. Well their replacement just arrived and it is FAR worse. Not only is it missing its entire sleeve cover (it’s a hardcover), but it has mold spots! This is the last straw and I will not be using ThriftBooks anymore, but will be trying Half Price Books instead.

I’m really happy thriftbooks exists, it’s awesome to have access to affordable books, and in my experience the description of the quality has always been accurate to the book I receive. However, I’ve had many shipping problems, with the books I’ve ordered either going to the wrong location or just not being shipped at all unless I reach out to customer service first (after having already paid). It’s almost like they forget to ship it and you need to remind them lol. Customer service does respond fairly quick and they resolve my issues competently, but it is kind of annoying that it happens so often. Overall love thriftbooks but it could definitely use some improvements.

I purchased over $30 of books that were listed as being in "good" condition. 3 out of 5 books were in terrible condition. There was writing on every page of one book, a second book had most of its pages taped back in, and a third belonged to a public library. (I know libraries sometimes sell old books, but this book was quite new and popular so I doubt it was sold by the library) I was pretty upset about the whole situation so I called customer support. The lady who assisted me was so kind and understanding, it changed my attitude about the situation! She offered two solutions: a full refund or replacements. I chose replacements. They arrived in a timely manner and were in excellent condition. I think I'll give thriftbooks another shot.

I ordered Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone in Very Good condition and it just got here today. I was really excited because I wanted to read it again and when I got it I was super disappointed when I saw it being taped together. I know it wasn’t a lot of money, but I spent the almost 5 dollars to buy a book in very good condition. Whereas the book I got was in practically the same condition of my old copy except for the fact it was taped. The spine was falling apart and not in good shape at all. Normally I wouldn’t care, but the whole reason I bought it in ‘Very Good’ condition was so it was nicer than my old copy which was falling apart just as the copy i bought was. If I wanted it to be functional I wouldn’t have spent the money to buy another book and i would’ve just taped mine together.

I LOVE ThriftBooks! I use it a lot and never usually have problems till now. I just want to make this be known so maybe someone can see this and fix the issue. I am trying to buy books but it won’t let me continue. I pressed the address I want to use and it will load but stay on the address page. Seems like there’s a glitch problem and I couldn’t find on the app “help” button so I figured this would be the best option. Other that this, ThriftBooks is awesome! & I recommend this app to anyone but just seems like they are having some issues right now which is fine! I hope they can resolve it sooner than later cause I would love to get these books ASAP!

The bad; I would just assume that anything “Good” or “Acceptable” will show up in pretty poor condition. How to Win Friends and Influence People (supposedly in Good Condition) showed up with 4 out of every 5 pages dog-eared, notes on every page written in pen, and half of the notes scribbled out so there are large blue ink borders surrounding a large portion of the book. Additionally, I had to pull out nearly as many sticky notes and tabs as there are pages. I also ordered a dictionary of finance terms that showed up in pretty dismal condition, I am not sure if it was the post office’s fault or Thriftbooks though. The postmen out here probably manhandle more strangers’ packages than Bill Cosby. The good; cheap books, fast delivery, huge selection, and anything in the “Very Good” or “Like New” category shows up in excellent condition! The only reason I haven’t recommend this app to my family and friends is because I want to collect their order points. Thank you guys at Thriftbooks for what you do. On a final note for fellow book-lovers! If you have to dog-ear 80+% of the pages, maybe just reread the book instead😉.

Just got this app and started looking at books. It is very annoying that the back button does not work right. If you try to go back more than one page it just switches back and forth between two pages instead of going to previous. I tried the “Back to Search Results” link but that does the same thing, takes me to the page I came back from, not to search results. This is very annoying. I have started my search over at the first page three times. Steps to reproduce: go to category page, click through to book, click on author link, click back button to go back to book. Next back button should take you to the original category page but instead takes you to the author page. Please fix this!

I absolutely lovee using Thrift Books, i love selecting editions I want and I love that i’m buying second hand books instead of new. but recently i CANNOT GET INTO THE APP. I’m constantly stuck on a loading screen that doesn’t permit me to use the app and never goes away. Even if I do get in, I encounter the eternal loading screen somewhere else in the app. The only way to report an issue is in the app which, in the apps current state, is nearly impossible to access. in addition to that, there is option to report in-app bugs so here I am. Please please update the app. the last update was a year ago and it is obviously starting to break.

The app has the same bugs it has had for years. It freezes. For whatever reason it churns and becomes unusable. And then it just starts again. Could be second hours or days later. Not only that there is no back button and the maneuverability between pages you can only occasionally there’s a back button where you can only go back one screen, but then you’re locked between two screens and you can never do anything but view those two screens without going out and coming back in. You would think after this many years they’ve tracked enough people to figure this out or use their own app, but it’s just like it is just so ancient & cumbersome.

I ordered “The Duckling Gets a Cookie” (among other books) for my 6 year old I received 2 copies of “The Pigeon Takes A Bath” instead of the ducking book. I emailed, they apologized for the mix up and claimed to have sent out the correct book. I received a third copy of the Pigeon book instead.. emailed again. This time they refunded me for the price of the duckling book and assured me they weee sending the correct book. I then got a FOURTH copy of the same pigeon book. I emailed again and the response was that the book is out of stock, shipping/delivery takes roughly 2 weeks per order so I’ve been trying to get this one book for my daughter for over month now. Not to mention on the website and app the book is in stock with multiple copies. If there is a book you REALLY want from ThriftBooks, I recommend trying to find it somewhere else first because it’s not guaranteed you’ll get the book you paid for apparently. I would’ve given them 1 star if it weren’t for the fact that the rest of the books I ordered were correct. It’s been such a hassle trying to get this book from them.

Everything scanned in great, prices offered to buy my books great. Go to finalize my offer, PayPal connected and then doesn’t go any further. Keeps saying my buyback isn’t an option right now. All books are still listed that they are buying. Deleted the whole shelf, then the app and redid everything, same thing happened. Spoke with customer service and was told that something may have changed as to the need of them buying back. Asked if I was supposed to scan in a book and immediately trade it in if that were the case and was told they offer store credit. Tried this, even though I didn’t want credit and the same thing happened. So this app will be deleted off my phone today!Wasted a ton of time!

Please add a “Back” button or a way to navigate to the previous screen. Also you should mention in one if the beginning level screens/pages of you BuyBack section that it is only for U.S. residents

Great app but they took away a free book under $5 for a measly 20 bonus points for a birthday reward. Lame

Saw one review that said they placed an order and shipping to Canada wasn’t bad but I added a bit more than $100 of books and shipping was $187 USD so not sure how anyone can consider that a good deal. Too bad as I am an avid book reader and buy from a UK shop all the time (will not name here as people will think I am plugging for them). Shipping from that site to Canada is 1/3 the price of not less.

The cost for me to ship it to Canada is more than my order. My order is $36 and the shipping is $38 that’s crazy, I’m only getting four books!

While I love the actual site, the app... Is HORRENDOUS!!!! It doesn't even work. Won't even open. Don't bother with the app. Go to the actual site. Such a disappointment. I thought I'd give it another go, to see if I could get a discount through the app. How can I? I won't be downloading again. I'll stick to the site.

Don’t even bother!! They claim 6-9 business days to receive your order. It’s been 2 months and I am yet to receive mine. Pretty horrible service. They even stopped responding to my emails. Go to a local used bookstore, prices are around the same with shipping. You’ve been warned.

The app does nothing but crash. Great website, I use it all the time, but the app is useless.
