Great with room to grow. What I like: I love that this app seems to have every book you can think of and it also has multiple editions of each book if you like being able to log the specific book you read and/or see an accurate progress progression %. I also like that there are multiple book recommendation lists as well as algorithmic recommendations based on books you’ve read. You can even follow authors and get alerted when there are giveaways for their books and when there is new releases. I really find it useful that if the book is part of a series, the app lists the name of the book series along with the book# under the book title, and it’s not only a reference, you can actually click on it and it takes you to a list with all the books from that series, which makes looking for more books in the series much easier than searching through all the books by that specific author. Room for growth: I would like to be able to rate books with half star increments, so it’s a bummer that’s not a feature. The recommendation lists have hundreds of books listed that I can’t possibly look through in one sitting, so it would be nice if there was a way to bookmark where I left off on a list instead of having to try and scroll through it all again. And it would be helpful to have additional options in search criteria, e.g. searching for books by star ratings, or by number of ratings, etc. Also, features for book clubs and book discussions would be worth looking into for many people..Version: 4.29.1
Worth it in the endI finished the night circus. Honest review… would I recommend it? Yes. it’s a super cute book. Would make a great PG movie that’d I’d absolutely go see. There’s no like crime/death/or sex. It’s slow to start, and it’s slightly hard to follow, it’s set in the late 1800’s and at the beginning of the chapters it gives you the dates/timeline that, that particular chapter is at, it jumps back and forth a bit so you just have to pay attention to the dates or you’ll get confused. I don’t recommend the audiobook, I listened and read it. Idk I feel like because you have to watch the dates, and then the person reading the book is an old like monotone man, it just makes it that much more confusing. I prefer audiobooks that are narrated by a man and a female, or someone who at least alters the range of their voice for the different people talking. Grandpa don’t do that. One of the things that really caught me when I was thinking about reading it, was the reviews, everyone remotely said the same thing about the book, that you never see the end coming and OH MY GAWD were they right. I did spend a good portion of time wondering if I liked the book. But kept in the back of my mind what everyone kept saying about the ending and I feel like it’s the ending that ties everything together and takes a book that you’re like “ehh idk 🤷🏼♀️“ to “okay!! Wow!” It brings a new meaning to ‘it’s all worth it in the end!”.Version: 4.31.0
Love it but I’ve got some ideasDon’t get me wrong this app is helpful and I use it all the times but it can be pretty clunky sometimes The featured booklists on your page are kinda tricky to find again and I wish there was a whole tab for them with like recently viewed lists and recommendations and things like that because when you accidentally leave an amazing list and can’t find it it’s the worst. The biggest issue I have is it’s not the most new user friendly. I got this app and had so many books and shelves to create for my previous reads but it takes five clicks to add a book to a shelf. When I make a shelf it’s because I realize I have lots of books similar and so scrolling through my reads and clicking five times for each is not fun at all and takes all day. I wish there was a select tool so you could add multiple books to a shelf at a time this would probably make this review five stars. Another little issue I have (and maybe I just can’t figure it out) is Re reading. If I read a book multiple times why can’t I count both towards my reading challenge? It won’t be an accurate page count if it turns out that was just the one of the times I read the book that year. I feel like you should have multiple reading dates on your book info so it isn’t just showing the last time you read it. If this is a feature and I just haven’t found it then I apologize. Definitely needs a refresh I just looked at version history and it’s mostly bug fixes! This app NEEDS something new.Version: 4.8.1
Great but Need to see Friend Goals againI’ve had Goodreads since 2016 & it’s one of my favorite apps. I could go on & on about the positives like having all my books I want to read & have read in one place, being able to follow authors I like & get notifications when they have a new book coming, being able to discuss what I’m reading with others via the review section, etc. However, I find myself now using other reading apps more often as of January 2025 due to the reading challenge settings changing. Again, it had been the same since I started in 2016 & everyone loved it how it was. We loved seeing in one location all of our friends’ reading goals as well as our own & if we’re on track to complete the goal. We loved being able to talk about those books with friends & now don’t know what they’re reading unless it happens to appear in the feed. I truly don’t know why you guys got rid of them & am begging for it to return to how it was. Also, we’ve all asked for years, but please give us half stars when reviewing a book. There’s a big difference between a 4.5 star & 5 star book & we can use half & even quarter stars on other book apps which I find myself using more often now due to the goal change & lack of you guys listening to your users. These are simple changes & I really hope you listen so Goodreads can be even better!.Version: 4.24.0
Needs a revampI use this app religiously but it needs an revamp BAD. the UI looks like it hasnt changed since day 1 and itd be nice if i could see my friends activity more often than i see ads on my feed 😑. would be nice if we could personalize our profiles, but not necessary. also recommendations or searching through genres could be greatly enhanced by further filtering of intended audiences—i dont want to scroll through twenty 20 childrens fantasy books before even finding one mediocre adult fantasy book im not interested in. ABSOLUTELY would benefit from half star rating system or even 10 star rating system im tired of seeing a 3 star review with “3.5 stars …” or a 1 star review with “0.5 stars…” in the actual review. the app is also not super user friendly and is generally clunky. lots of unnecessary tapping needed and idk what it is but the searching function is super clunky too. i feel like the search option should first search our shelves for matches before searching the rest of the database for matches. definitely need a multi-select option to make shelving multiple books easier. i have over 300 books in my read im not reshelving each individual book, jeffrey. add tags in reviews so we can filter by tags. basically more filtering options for everything. add private reviews only your friends can see so that they dont affect the overall review of the book (sometimes you can acknowledge a book is well-written and still hate it)..Version: 3.34
Ok but could be betterI love goodreads, and this app is ok. But it could be a lot better. It needs to be seriously updated. The most I ever really do on this app is mark books that I've started and finished reading. But I spend a lot of time on Goodreads' desktop site just browsing. I'd like to be able to do the same on the app. For instance, when I go to the search tab and I tap the fantasy genre tab, I want to be taken to a similar page that shows up on the desktop fantasy page. A section of new releases, an area to refine the genre of fantasy, a section showing popular fantasy lists, another section showing popular fantasy books. When I hit the fantasy genre tab on the app, it just takes me to the most generic list of fantasy books possible. I never really rely on goodreads recommendations for choosing my next read, but I do typically pick my next read from just browsing the various lists and new release sections that are available on the desktop site. I mean, I seriously find my self exiting the app and going to the desktop version on my mobile web client just so I don't have to deal with the bulkiness of my laptop. It's kind of frustrating. What's the point of having an app version of your website when using most of the features on your website is more enjoyable while not using the app. Also, compared to most of my other apps, goodreads just looks and feels really bulky and out of date. The UI is reminiscent of when I tap a website link in a non-web client app such as twitter or instagram. Seriously, for a website as popular and as widely used as goodreads, the app should just be better..Version: 3.23.1
Love Goodreads, but the latest update is a disappointmentI’ve been using Goodreads for 15 years, and I’ve been a huge fan for most of that time. I used to encourage any book lover I met to get the app so we could see what the other was reading and explore each other’s bookshelves. It was basically the only social media platform I wanted to be a part of. However, the latest update removed one of my favorite features - the ability to see friends’ reading challenges. It was a great way to motivate each other to read and to easily see what your friends had read that year. This has now been replaced by achievement badges for reading “popular” books. I like classics and niche genres, so this doesn’t appeal to me at all. Plus, the achievement badge gimmick has already been done by every other company out there and frankly feels tired and uninspired. Finally, and most importantly, it’s isolating. It removed a big part of the social aspect of the site that made it so fun to use. Reading through different forums, many Goodreads users are upset about the loss of this feature and are threatening to migrate to other sites. Some of my own friends are about to delete their accounts if the old reading challenges are not brought back. After 15 years of loyalty, I’m sorely disappointed in this choice by the company. I hope they listen to everyone’s feedback and bring back one of the features we all loved the most. I do see some developer responses on here stating that Goodreads is looking into a solution, so I will eagerly await for that solution to be deployed..Version: 4.24.0
FAVORITE APP OF ALL TIME. MUST HAVE FOR ANY READERI have been using goodreads for a couple years now, and it’s changed my reading life. I speak passionately about goodreads to anyone that reads and isn’t already on the app. I realized that I should show my appreciation by writing a review. Goodreads has changed my reading life by inspiring me to do a reading challenge every year, by helping me explore my favorite genres and authors, and keeping me up to date on trending books and new releases. I also love to vote in the good reads choice awards at the end of the year! I think goodreads is an essential tool for every reader. Goodreads allows you to create your own digital shelf’s, track your progress, see your friends reads, write your own reviews and ratings and see the reviews and ratings of others. It helps you see your reading life in front of your eyes instead of having it all stored in your mind. I also love having my own “want to read” list, this way I don’t have to remember all book suggestions or books that sparked my interest, I have a place for them to go. If your a reader that likes organization, goodreads is a MUST HAVE for organizing and building your reading life. Another cool thing is I know some goodreads can be given copies of books before they are released to read and review, I have not had that opportunity yet.. but I would love to do that one day! I think it’s yet another excellent part of the app. Goodreads has really created a community for readers. It actually drives me nuts when readers won’t give goodreads a chance because they are missing out on so much. This is a genius and life changing platform..Version: 3.22.1
Great app just a few things I wish were more user friendly4.5/5 I love using Goodreads because it keeps me accountable ao I actually finish most of the books I start instead of just moving on to a new book I also love how organized it lets me be with my books so I know exactly which books I’ve read and which ones I have at home that I haven’t read yet however one problem I’ve run into is that I can’t put a book on a shelf that I’ve made without it being automatically put on my want to read list what’s even more frustrating is I can’t even take the book off of my want to read list without removing it from all my shelves. Another thing is I wish the suggestions were more personalized based off of the books I’ve read and want to read often I feels like good reads has some automatic books for each genre and suggests those All the time without ever changing it up or taking into account what I might actually enjoy. That’s all I have so all in all a great app just better for keeping track of your books rather than looking for recommendations. (Added this next part in later) also I really wish there was a way to select multiple books to put on a shelf when I’m in for example my wtr shelf if there is multiple books that I want to have on a separate shelf then it would be so much easier to just be able to select them all at once. Thanks bye!.Version: 4.19.0
Can’t add friends and boring profilesMy main complaint is the fact that it’s impossible to add your friends on this app! There’s so many ways that it looks like you can add them and then you try and it doesn’t work. You can’t add them through the “invite” option like you’d think. You can’t add them through sending your profile. It’s impossible. I also found that I can’t even add them through the friend search bar. The profiles are also… boring. I can barely navigate mine and honestly they’re nothing special. At the very least I’d like a better layout for the bookshelves. I hate that a few books show up and then if I really want to see anything I have to type the “see all bookshelves” button. The feed layout is also not great. Mostly ads and not much of my friends reviews or what they’ve added to their bookshelves. I got the app so I could compare with my friends and see what they’re reading and the algorithm of this app means 1/3 of what I see are my friends and the other 2/3 is just recommendations and ads. Lastly, I know this isn’t the app’s fault but man people on goodreads are critics! It seems impossible for books to have 4 stars as everyone is honestly so brutal with their reviews. Failing to see the good things and only highlighting the bad. Wish that there was a nicer community on goodreads. People are also super rude in comments on reviews as well, goodreads needs to do better at keeping the bullying to a minimum..Version: 4.8.0
I have few suggestions but otherwise love the appI have few suggestions but otherwise love the app. One suggestion is that I think there should be another app very similar to this one but instead of books that you would be reviewing and rating, it would be movies and shows. other suggestions include: I think there should be a select option so you could select multiple books instead of doing one at a time. I also think there shouldn’t be a limit to how many friends you could have, and that there should be a function that you could use to mark the book if you read it again because if you read the same book again you have already marked it as read, so at the end of the year, when it shows how many pages you read total of all the books you’ve read that year, it wont include the books that you’ve read more than once; so I think there should be something, I’m not sure what exactly, but something to show that you read that book more than once so that it includes that in the thing that shows how many pages you’ve read total of all the books you’ve read that year. If I think of any other suggestions, I will edit this review. But that’s all for now..Version: 4.26.1
Love the idea, hate the UXHaving a comprehensive catalog of books with an active community of users who rate and review is a fantastic idea. And other than some occasional weird duplication where the same title shows up across multiple listings for no apparent reason, Goodreads excels at this. But OMG the interface. I can mostly get past the cluttered design and useless giveaway notifications. But too many other issues that continue even after years of updates. A sampling: ***Reviews are sorted by number of likes, period. This creates a sort of death spiral where a certain type of already-popular fanboy/girl reviews just get more popular and any sort of fresh or more recent perspective is hopelessly buried 10 pages down. Give the user the option in settings to always sort by date, rating or likes. Otherwise, why should anyone with a life outside of Goodreads make the effort to write reviews at all? ***Allow 1/2 stars in book ratings. The community has been clamoring for this for years, and they’re right. ***Make it possible to mark a book as “did not finish” without it lingering forever on the “currently reading” shelf. Even better, make a DNF shelf one of the default options. ***Let us create custom shelf names with spaces, capitalization, etc. without defaulting to lowercase and hyphens. Seriously, it feels like windows_file_naming_in_1996. ***Allow editing of one shelf list without affecting other shelves. RN, attempting to delete a book from currently reading also removes it from my custom DNF shelf (and sometimes seems to put it back on want to read???)..Version: 4.20.0
Hi Goodreads. PLEASE ADD THESE THINGSThis app is wonderful. It is almost perfect. BUT every person I’ve talked to who uses Goodreads have all been in agreement it would be a GAME CHANGER if these were added: 1) A 0.5 star option. It sounds silly but it can be so frustrating deciding if a book it 4 or 5 stars. If there was a 4.5 option for example, I think all my life problems would be solved. 2) Private ratings. I’m sure if you’re an app developer you know of Letterboxd, and for me personally, if some similar features could be added to Goodreads that would make it just *chefs kiss*. For example: one of my favorite things about Letterboxd is how your ratings don’t account to a larger average rating for a movie (but in this case it would be a book). You can rate a movie and write your OWN review describing how that movie fit into your personal taste. I would love to see this on Goodreads in a way in which I could do a private review (almost like a personal diary) rather than a public rating. Sometimes i’ll read a book and recognize it’s objectively a great book, but I might give it two starts because maybe that sub-genre of fantasy romance wasn’t up my alley, so maybe that review would be nice to have in a personal journal rather than a public one because my review is sort of niche. I hope this makes sense. :))) I LOVE THIS APP!!!.Version: 3.31
A must for writers, readers, and reviewersI loved em when I just used the website, and I use it constantly now that it’s an app. I devour books at a fairly disgusting rate and love GoodReads. Say you like one book. Okie dokie! What did you like about it? Well, there isn’t a need to pick ONE thing about the book, because goodreads alllows people to index the book for a variety of reasons. Lists created by other readers based on the little things they liked in this book that they liked in other books. Author, genre, fiction/non? Just the beginning. Did you like it because it involved possessed children? Talking animals? Science fiction with/without aliens? Main character is evil? Yup - there are lists for it. Did an author make a one-off you LOVED, but you have a hard time getting into their other books? It’s likely in a list with other, similar goods to scratch that no-sequel itch. Goodreads makes it easy to find something similar rec’d by average readers, not just people who were paid or received a free copy of a book to talk it up. And not just for readers, this is a great resource for writers, too. Opinions are like... well, you know. Reading reviews of a book with a topic or genre you’re working in helps writers see what people think works, what doesn’t, and - most importantly - lets them see that reviews aren’t everything. Inevitably you will run across a review of a book you loved (or hated) with a review so opposite of your own you wonder if you read the same book. It arms the potential writer with the grain of salt needed for the reviews they could be getting themselves one day. Pick it up, seriously. Tuck it next to your reading app or a Book folder on your PC or phone..Version: 3.16
Not advertised as social mediaThe only apps I use more than Goodreads are my bank app and Libby. I started using it long before I had my kindle, and the fact that the kindle connects to my Goodreads has made the whole experience even more enjoyable. This is a unique way to experience where your friends are at in life without the overwhelming TMI of social media. I also cannot rave enough about the reliability of book recommendations within the app. It seems that the more you read, the better it knows what you be interested in. I’ve been googling what books to read for YEARS and have more DNFs than I can count. Since I started using Goodreads in conjunction with Libby, I have the even larger issue of wanting to read every book on my TBR list at the same time- And that’s another thing! Goodreads makes tracking your books INSANELY easy. What you’ve read, want to read, and the progress in the book you’re currently reading. It even has a yearly reading challenge that lets you set your own goal (I’ve had to increase mine twice since January because I’m moving through books faster than ever before). This app is my favorite app..Version: 4.5.0
Overall great, but a few annoyancesI generally love Goodreads. I’ve tried other book tracking apps and this is the one I keep coming back to. A few things I would *really* see change though: 1. Connecting with other users you know and finding your friends isn’t particularly functional. It doesn’t seem to find people via contacts. Other apps and social media platforms have been doing this well for years, I don’t see why GR can’t. 2. LET ME FILTER OUT RECOMMENDATIONS. Listen, some people only want to read about people falling in love and hooking up and if that’s you - do you. But not everyone is on board for quick read romance novels having their moment in the sun and I feel like they have completely taken over every list and recommendation. I’m tired of seeing them fill space when what I really want is *nearly anything else.* Goodreads isn’t even trying to get to know my preferences, which is fine. But let me fine tune them so I can see more recommendations I want to see and way way fewer of what I don’t. I’ve started just looking at things like the NY Book Review and New Yorker now for new reads to add to my list, and sometimes go long stretches off good reads unless it’s to update progress on a book so I can keep track of where I am..Version: 4.32.0
Good Reads IssuesThis is good for tracking books, and your kindle highlights. However, there are so many issues that I seem to be having. First, the app isn’t available on my Fire Tablet.. which is what I would prefer to use it on as I read on that. Not a big deal, just slightly annoying. Second, for some reason it doesn’t completely link to my kindle unlimited. I can mark a book as currently reading / read / want to read for good reads on the kindle unlimited app, but it does seem to transfer. I have to go into my app to make these changes. So it’s completely a waste of time to even bother doing these in kindle unlimited. Third, I was just signed into my account through the browser on my fire table… I joined a group, commented in the group, switched my account preferences, added a profile photo and changed my name all on the browser. But when I refreshed and logged into good reads on my phone, none of this information seemed to have been changed.. it was almost as if I was editing a different account. I triple checked to make sure that I was in the same account and I was. So this doesn’t really make sense and isn’t a very good app honestly. Maybe I’m alone in these issues as I haven’t seen anyone else complain about these things, but I’m not impressed.Version: 4.24.0
Fundamental Flaws Ruining the Good that Could BeI love to read, and I love having an app like Goodreads that helps me keep track of what I’ve read when and share that with my friends, but there are some fundamental issues with the app that have never been addressed that can make the experience frustrating. The biggest issue I’m running into with the latest updates is the way notifications run. I could get a push notification about someone liking or commenting on a progress update, and the notification will take me directly to that interaction. THEN, I have to go back through the app and find the same reaction just to clear the notification from the app. Additionally, some notifications haven’t shown up in the app despite the fact that someone commented or liked something. ALSO, I currently have two “friend requests” pending that I cannot clear because the requests will not show up in the app. Those notifications taunt me every time I look at the app, telling me I have something to look at, then not letting me deal with them. This is the most prevalent issue I’ve seen lately in the app, but it’s indicative of some fundamental bugs that have never been worked out of the system. If these issues would be addressed, this app could be top tier..Version: 4.12.0
Good concept but too buggyI’ve used this app for years and it’s always riddled with bugs. It’s totally fine in the browser, but the IOS app has frequent issues. Lately, anytime I move a book from “reading” to “want to read”, it also shows up under “recently read”. But only on the profile and on the “my books” summary pages. Once I click on the list of “recently read” books, the books I moved from “reading” to “to read”, vanish. I used to work in web development and I can imagine the sort of mistake that would produce a bug like this, and I’m surprised it’s hung around for so long. Tonight, I keep being told there’s an “error” and that I “do not have permission to view this content.” Other nights, the app crashes for reasons I cannot explain, but often when trying to load a book list or a user profile. I find all of this very annoying, as a user, and just plain sloppy, for such a widely used app! I will continue to use it because it’s a helpful tool for tracking books, which my scatterbrain requires, but I just really wish this app didn’t have all these bugs and glitches. Again, these issues don’t seem to be reproduced in the version rendered in a web browser, but I more often track books on my phone, in the app..Version: 4.19.0
Mind blowing! This book will challenge your paradigm of the world. Really. It will expand your understanding of psychology, human emotion, spirituality, civil society, personal faith, history, and international politics. It will affirm the existence of supernatural intelligent evil and the God of the Bible, as well as His trinitarian reality. You will be amazed at how much we don't know about what is going on right under our noses. Even where you live. I believe this personal account to be 100% true. Anyone who says otherwise is either not familiar with the depth and breadth of corroborating material from very trustworthy sources, or they are too afraid of the implications for their personal belief systems. Suffice to say, we are on the precipice of some very difficult times and the biggest challenges we will face in the upcoming months will be from things we cannot even begin to comprehend. This book is a warning. A shot over the bow, a call to spiritual arms. We as as society had better get prepared and supernaturally armed. We are woefully outgunned and undertrained. The Holy Spirit of the Living God is the only force that can help. Orient your heart toward HIM and join in the good fight! God Bless!.Version: 4.2.0
I do not suggest using this app and would not recommend it to a friend to use nor a stranger onlineThis app for me is not how I wish it could be. I am a young avid reader who reads like 5 books a week normally, but don’t feel as though this app accommodates for readers such as myself. Throughout the year if I am to go in and mark a book and read and not reading before it will not show that I read it for my year goals which is frustrating. Not only that but since I am 14 I do not feel that all the book suggestions are age appropriate for myself, something that the app should surely improve upon. My next point is that the app also does not give me the most unique book suggestions for my taste. Like I will say oh I really like throne of glass and then it would suggest I read say a good girls guide to murder. Having read both books I can say neither are similar in any way. All in all I feel this app is very much flawed and until there are changes made to it I do not feel myself reaching toward my phone to look at what books it think I would like. I feel a friend I have similar book taste too has much better suggestions. Bye to people who read this and just know ask your book bestie instead of struggling with using this app..Version: 4.31.0
Good but could use some improvementsOverall, I think this is a decent app for tracking your reading progress (though by no means the only one in its category). The process of finding a book, adding it to your shelf, tracking its progress, and leaving a review is simple and easy. It’s when you spend a little more time on it that I think it could use improvement. I’ve included my complaints/suggestions below in order from most to least important. 1.)the thing that I find most annoying about this app is that when I go to edit down my want-to-read shelf, it constantly refreshes the page even if I’m not actually removing a book from it. Like I’ll click a book just to remind myself what it’s about, and when I click to go back to the shelf, it will refresh the page and I’ll have to scroll back down to where I was. It’s both annoying and inefficient to constantly have to be scrolling down the shelf to find my place (especially because I have A LOT 2.) shelf won’t load beyond a certain point if you have a lot of books 3.) if I’ve DNFd a book, there’s no option but to add it to my read shelf, even if I add it to my separate DNF shelf 4.) adding a book to want to read shelf as part of a giveaway.Version: 3.35
Love MarriageAt first I thought this was going to be another somewhat fluff, lighthearted, bend over backward narrative portraying a childish level of adult innocence mimicking Bollywood 50’s films. I was so wrong. This book is anything but. The reality clashed with the expectation and left me impressed and surprised. Plumbing the depths of what constitutes love, the author depicts profound ways love manifests itself, sometimes when it’s least expected. An exploration of family dynamics is enlightening in that context. The beliefs underlying the psychoanalytic practice of Sandro Bartok, a minor but crucial character in the book, sums up the themes perfectly - compassion and connectedness. In order to do this, the author creates compelling, multi-faceted characters who reveal themselves believably. The author uses a wealth of research in medicine, philosophy. psychology, feminist theory and artistic movements to give depth and credibility to her characters, while not losing sight of their fallible, endearing human qualities. The story has several twists and held my attention. This is the work of an author who has mastered the craft of writing. The characters were so real that I believe they will stay with me for some time..Version: 4.14.1
CaptivatingThis was a captivating novel as it weaved a story of possible intimates aspects of one of the most literary geniuses of the day with one of the most prolific contributors to the Harlem Renaissance and black history during this period. Because of his importance to black history I was uncomfortable at times with these intimate details of W.E.B Du bois’ life, I understand that history reveals that this relationship existed and was accepted by contemporaries of his day and tolerated by his wife. I was so fascinated by Jessie Redmond Fauset’s life. To learn of a creative giant in the literary community, who was savvy in business and who used her talents to mentor rising stars like Langston Hughes , Countee Cullen, Nells Larsen and others were refreshing. While the affair had me shaking my head at her detachment and failure to address the fact she was entangled with a married man and her actions impacted his wife. It took years for her to apparently realize her worth. Yeah, the affair left me frustrated and annoyed at them both! I loved the rich descriptions of Harlem and the international travels by Fauset and Du bois. I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to others..Version: 4.24.0
I Am My Mother’s DaughterI have known Dara and her family since 1997. She is a lovely human being and precious Mom, Wife, and Friend. She is a cancer survivor and Warrior in helping people.I said I was going off Facebook, and I am but I had to jump on and tell you about a great book coming out September 1st, 2020. "I Am My Mother's Daughter" Wisdom on Life, Loss, and Love byDara Hirsch Kurtz I ordered her book months ago as a pre-order, but the independent bookstore sent it the next day. Dara and I were so surprised I got mine at the end on July- I was the first person to receive a copy!!! I read it immediately and loved it. It took me down memory lane thinking of my parents and grandparents and how much comfort and Knowledge they passed on to me in letters, conversations, and cards. I wished, like Dara I had a zip lock bag of them all. The first read I thought about, me. The second read through I thought about my son and how I could create a bond and memories for him. I loved the part where she created a Mom/Daughter journal with her girls. My 18 year old son thought I was crazy when I mentioned this to him. So we now leave post-it notes for each other! This was such a lovely read, made even greater by being in this awful pandemic, It took me on a journey of happiness, and remembering all the love in my life. It made me grateful for my past and hopeful for my future. Also, it opened a door for important conversations with my son. We have really had great conversations about his life, desires for his future, and introducing the past to him. When I tell him about my growing up, he said, "Mom you've had a wonderful life." And he is right. I am so grateful for reading Dara's book, it opened so many conversations with my son, friends, and family. I HIGHLY RECCOMEND READING THIS BOOK!.Version: 3.25.1
Perfect for book lovers or casual readers.I usually never write reviews, but my life as a reader was totally changed after finding this app. I love books and always have, but life keeps you busy and you end up putting things aside. Well, this app has helped me find so many books I NEED to read, and it has helped me rediscover my love for reading! I really can’t think of anything to improve. I love the layout. I love the ability to make “shelves” to save books. It even lets you track the progress of books you’re reading. You can read your friends reviews or any reviews in general. I also love that they have a vote at the end of the year (or beginning, I can’t remember) for best books in SEVERAL genres and also have best of the best and whatnot. Browsing books by categories is also great because it’s helping me find different kinds of books so my reading list can be more diverse. The only complaint I have (which actually isn’t a real complaint) is that every time I click on this app, I find a million more books I want to read and there’s no way I can read them all in my lifetime..Version: 3.15.1
Wonderful!I don't have room in my house for a bookcase nor do I have enough money to buy all the books I love and display them in my house. Therefore, when I found goodreads I found the perfect way to create a digital bookcase with reviews and all! I simply adore it :) My only wish would be a DNF category aside from the usual ones (i.e.- "Currently Reading", "To Read", "Read"). Right now I have a handful of books on my "Read" list even though I didn't finish them. I hate taking credit for reading a book when I didn't but if I take it off my list I'll forget I tried it and try to read it later. In addition, I read many books via audiobooks and I want to update my progress under “currently reading” but I have no way of knowing what page I’m on and typing in the percentage is a pure guess. In order for this to be more accurate to where I am in the book, it might be nice to have a category that tracks what chapter or minute you’re on. If this was the case I would have a more comprehensive view of my progress throughout the read. Other than these two small tweaks I love it!.Version: 3.9.2
Great resource!I wouldn't read a book without consulting it on Goodreads first! I have never been mislead by ratings. Because of Goodreads, I have read genres and Authors I never would have tried without the recommendations of others who use this app. My recommendation is to link books to all libraries. So many times I have read the first book of the series only to find there isn't the second. My library asks for recommendations including what format type is available too. I listen to many or most books. I go down my list of Want to Read’s and half don't exist at my library in audiobook format. My library is in Southwest Florida encompassing Ft Myers, and all the surrounding cities are the land of retired old people who do nothing but read, eat, and walk. It's one of the best libraries I know, another is Gwinnett County north of Atlanta. I pay for these cards because I don't live in either state anymore. I highly suggest both for all who are like me. Thanks, Goodreads, I tell all my friends and others I see reading if the opportunity arises. Karina.Version: 4.20.0
App has some bugs/could also simply be better than it is in generalWhen I first got the app - I was disappointed in some of the features. But they were small things. Like if I accidentally friend requested someone with a similar name to who I actually meant to request - I can’t cancel that request. I have to wait and see if that person accepts it before I can unadd them. But my most recent issue has to be a Bug. It didn’t used to be a problem. It’s glitching when you enter dates read for a book that you’ve read more than once. At first, it made both sets of dates match. Then after I tried to enter a complaint or ticket to Goodreads, they did respond saying they’re working on it but I woke up to find my latest most recent read of the book was completely gone, removing it from my current reading challenge, and it was replaced with the original year I’d read the book. I barely remembered my most recent start date in order to fix it. I recommend buying a book journal or keeping track in a document on your computer as well as using Goodreads because you can’t rely on Goodreads to keep your records accurate..Version: 4.4.1
Best social media platform everWhen I finished my masters degree, I was so burnt out from reading that it took me a loooong time to get back into it. When I finally did, I remembered how wonderful it is to hold an actual book and enjoy the information within (and not just find a way to cram the information into your brain for a test while simultaneously finding ways it will affect my career). I love Goodreads because it’s a community of people interested in reading, no matter what their interests may be. Sure, I’m connected with some people that I don’t anticipate reading anything they recommend, but it’s still engaging to be exposed to what others are reading, and what they think and learn from it. I’m not a huge social media buff, but I love this one because I can hop on, see what others are up to at a glance without being forced to watch videos of advertisements before I can proceed, maybe do some quick research through reviews of a recommended book, and then move on with life. I love it!.Version: 4.26.1
Great, but could use a little tweaksI love this app. I use it every day. (Scroll to bottom to see reason for 4 star rating.) I love to new track of books I’ve read and what I’ve thought of them, in case a friend asks for a recommendation. I like to update what I’m currently reading as I go to see how far along I am in percentages. I also like to see what my friends have read/are reading, and what they thought of those books. I LOVE being able to make a list of books I want to read, instead of slowly typing them all out in my notes app, I can just check my list here while at the library or bookstore. However, I WISH there was a feedback submission area of the app. I’d like to be able to point out when I notice a problem. For example, I must’ve accidentally followed someone recently, but it won’t let me unfollow them. Another example, I was reading “The Help” recently and was updating it as I went. It told me I was 100% complete when I was only 90% through the book. I wish there was a feedback area so I could tell the app makers about these little problems that are probably easily fixable..Version: 3.15.1
PLEASD ADD!!I LOVE goodreads, don’t get me wrong. I have been using it for around 2 years now and it has been wonderful, however it is missing something many book lovers crave. STATS! Graphs!! There is a way to access some graphs, however there is some major problems with those. Primarily being it is hard to find and only on computer versions of the app, so mobile users can not find it (at least I have not been able to on my phone). Second problem is with the graphs themselves, there is no way to look at a specific month or year which can be very annoying when there is an outlier or large scale that ruins most of the data since the graph is zoomed out to much (found this to be true especially with the dates published section). Also Goodreads is missing graphs like what genres we read the most or the pace of books. I find a lot of readers have been switching to Storygraph, which does have all those graphs, however the app is annoying in the areas that goodreads excels at and ultimately isn’t worth it for me. However the graphs are worth it for a lot of people, so Goodreads PLEASE add a bigger stats emphasis!.Version: 3.35
Other than porn spam, this app is amazingI absolutely love goodreads! There are so many features and I love being able to see what friends are reading, and also looking back on the books I’ve read. Additionally, the want to read list is really helpful so I can just look on it when I want to check out a book at the library. For the first year of using this app, I encountered zero problems. However, I have recently started getting random likes and follows on my account and their profiles have links to porn websites. I keep getting more and more every week and it have come to the point where I get at least one per day. Every time I make an update, it gets celebrated with sometimes up to 6 likes from these spam accounts. I’m getting tired of constantly getting notifications and then having to block and flag them. I’ve reached out to goodreads and it seems like this is a common problem, but all they told me to do is to flag it. I’m really hoping an update is made so I don’t have to deal with this spam anymore. It is getting really annoying..Version: 3.31
Perfect! Just missing one thing...I love this app! I love that you can scan books into it for easy cataloging, I love that I can use it while doing unnecessary book shopping to make sure I don’t buy what I already have. I love that I can update my progress on books in the app. It’s literally missing just one thing - the ability to enter dates on my activity for a book showing I’ve re-read it. I know I can edit when I first started and finished a book, but I can’t add more dates as I re-read books, which is all I tend to be doing lately. I know I can add these dates on the site (which, tbh it’s really difficult to get to the page I need to enter re-read dates, so that could be improved, too), but, while a majority of my books are actually physical books, I do have a lot of kindle and audio books that I consume on my phone, so when I finish them, it would be nice to be able to update my activity with a re-read date while I’ve already got my nose stuck in front of my phone. My rating is a 4 out of 5, but I will gladly give it a perfect 5 if that missing feature can be added!.Version: 3.8.2
Still the Best Place for Readers, Authors, and Writers After All These YearsI have enjoyed Goodreads since it first launched, and it quickly became one of my favorite ways to connect with other readers. Right from the beginning, I found people who shared my taste in books, and that alone made it feel like much more than just a reading tracker. Watching it grow into what it is today has been no surprise, because its purpose has always been so well designed for book lovers. What I appreciate most is how easily it helps me keep track of what I’ve read, monitor my progress through current books, and stay on top of my yearly reading goals. It turned reading into something even more interactive without taking away the personal joy of it. One of the best parts, especially in the early days, was being able to connect directly with favorite authors. Back when the site had a smaller community, I was even able to become “friends” with a few of them, which made the experience feel especially unique. There are also countless groups for every kind of reader, more than anyone could possibly keep up with, and they make it easy to discover new books and discussions. When the app version came along, it only improved on everything the site already did well. It made all those features even more accessible and convenient. I’ve tried no other book app because I simply haven’t needed to. Goodreads is still the only one I trust for keeping my reading life organized, and after all these years, it remains one of the best companions a serious reader can have..Version: 4.34.0
Good, Could be betterOk so I really like this app but there is a few things that I would change 1) I would really add half a star exp. 3.5 stars I think for a book ratings it’s definitely something everyone would want. 2) I just recently realized this but when someone sends you a friend request it says you have a notification but when you click the requests there is nothing there and it is really frustrating trying to find a way to add my friends on the app. 3) This isn’t really that important but some of the books on the app have the old covers for one book in the series but the rest have the new covers for example the first book in the throne of glass series on good reads has the old cover. 4) I think it would be a fun idea to have personal notes for things. Like instead of just being able to write a public review you could also have personal notes for the books just to keep track of your thoughts in a more private way. Besides those things I think this is a very good app that I use almost everyday..Version: 4.4.1
Perfect for any bookworm, avid reader or librarian!I absolutely love Goodreads and the app too! I use it to keep track of everything I read and want to read. It’s perfect for that! Because I’m a librarian, I love doing book reviews too! I like reading other people reviews too but never read others reviews until after I finish the book, it’s fun to compare thoughts to both people who felt similar and even to people who have totally opposite opinions as well! The only thing I don’t like about the app versus the website version, is it’s much harder to categorize your read book or put them into “shelves” I’ve found that feature is a bit hidden on the app, and easier to do on the regular website. But the app is quick and easy for just looking for books, making your read and “want to read” lists and for reviews! I can also say as a library director, I use Goodreads all the time to look up book series order for library “patrons”/my library’s members. It’s a wonderful feature for big name authors who have 20 or more books in a series for children’s series, for looking up Amish series orders or even manga volume order. Love love love this feature. I’ve also used the list feature a few times to as a librarian to look up teen books or books related to a specific theme, whether to order for my library or for a reading challenge. Love, love, LOVE Goodreads both personally and professionally. I use it all the time, at least every week if not more!.Version: 4.5.0
Bald Headed LiesBald-Headed Lies Imogene and El are back and immersed in yet another mysterious murder in Southern California. The gruesome, claustrophobic and often skin crawling discovery of guilt leads them on an adventure of intrigue and horror that kept me reading from start to finish in one sitting. Cemetery happenings, zombie history and hallucinogenics combine with the paranormal and cast of characters that lead to shocking truths about deadly deeds of human beings. Many of the captivating characters from the first 2 books in this series are back to entertain and delight us once again. Greta Boris tells their story with dramatic rollercoaster twists and spiraling turns. I love how there are always references to things in each of her books that cause me to do some quick research to expand my personal knowledge base on a wide expanse of topics. Reading references to familiar locations, streets and the SoCal interstate add a familiar and fun flare to the reading experience for residents of SoCal. Bravo to Greta on another well written book in the series…can hardly wait for “A Permanent Solution”!.Version: 4.2.0
Great for keeping trackGoodreads is a great app for keeping track of what you’ve read. BUT, the reviews are inaccurate. If someone doesn’t like a certain author, they gather their “squad” and give it a bunch of one star reviews and start bashing the book before it’s even released TO ANYONE, Including Beta readers or Bloggers. I’ve been in the book world for 6 years and have seen this time and time again. On the flip side, the same can be said for diluted books theat have never been out of the authors hands with 5 star reviews and raving and bragging how great the book is (they never read) Don’t get me wrong, there are some books that are that bad, however, how can they be judged before anyone has laid eyes on them 🤷🏻♀️ IF YOU WANT AN APP TO KEEP UP WITH WHAT YOU HAVE READ OR WANT TO READ OR HAVE READ with nifty little shelves, this is the app for YOU. If you aren’t interested in grown ups acting like child, stalking, false reviews and all the other BS that comes with it, I wouldn’t waste my time OR you can just ignore it like I do 🖤 I mostly just keep my shelves on my Paperwhite now but when it asked me to review it, how could I not share my honest opinion.Version: 3.16
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️One of my favorite apps of all time. I know there are a few kinks here & there. The only thing I wish I could change was being able to give half stars with rating. Sometimes a book is a four 1/2 instead of a full five!! Nonetheless, I truly think if you are someone who reads a lot (like myself). It’s a great app to use. You can keep up with all your books & track as you read them. You can create different shelves & categories. If you want a shelf for all your five star books, all your fantasy books, & if you want to make a shelf for books you DNF’ed. You can also set goals for yourself. Challenging how many books you want to read in a years time. It keeps track of it for you. When you finish a book it automatically adds it to your total for the year. A simple & easy reviewing tool as well. I love this app!! I truly recommend it to anyone who loves reading, loves tracking their reads, & keeping all their shelves in one app!!.Version: 4.16.0
Wishing for Filters by developersI really like how this app aids for those who are list makers. I’m an avid Audible user & go through several books a week. That all adds up to a lot of writing if not for this useful tool. I do however wish there were filters to list by author & alphabetical title order. Or even a search box under read books to see if a title is there after reading a description that I find interesting but not sure if I’ve already read. It’s taxing to scroll through the list of 400 when trying to remember a title. I like that it shows how long it took me to read. Even the Kindle App doesn’t alert me that I’ve read a title already when I type one in. It does show them in a list but here again you have to scroll through them ALL to find. It does show the titles by year in the order you’ve read but no other way to search. Love Kindle Unlimited & Audible!! Until 4 yrs ago I hated to read. After reading The Amulet of Power & the Rescue Mission w/ Audible I was hooked & haven’t stopped..Version: 4.16.0
My favorite app on my phoneI’m obsessed with Goodreads. I love tracking my reading and even more I love seeing what others are reading and adding their favorites to my TBR. That being said the app can be clunky at times - the whole thing could use an update. It seems the transition from website to app had a few hiccups? I don’t receive notifications other than my email (could be user error), when looking at my profile’s updates they will stack on top of each other, DMs are not worth using as it’s only text that you can send. I would love to have an option to send/receive book suggestions to other friends. I’d also absolutely love to see something like Spotify’s blend where you can see how compatible you are with your friends book lists. A lot of people also wish for the ability to rate with half stars but that’s not super important to me. Even with all the clunky I love this app so much. I check it at least every day..Version: 4.11.0
Forced “Read”, “Want to Read”, “Currently Reading”UPDATE: Goodreads contacted me and suggested I make my son’s bookshelf “exclusive”, meaning books on the shelf wouldn’t be on two shelves (that one and “currently reading” at the same time). It’s exactly what I needed. Thanks Goodreads! I updated my review! Original Review: I like this app. I would like to use it for its intended purpose for my own books (meaning: marking this as read, currently reading, want to read), and also keep a “shelf” of my son’s books to share with his grandparents. It is frustrating that you are FORCED to choose “read”, “currently reading”, or “want to read” for every book—I don’t want to mark my son’s books with these tags; I just want to catalog them with a shelf. I only want to use these tags with my own books... it’s annoying that I have to see his books in “currently reading” when I just want to see mine! Please add this option so I can use this app for myself! Right now I’m “currently reading” 50 children’s books! :(.Version: 3.15.1
Healthiest App on My PhoneI think the best thing about this great app are the reviews. They get voted up by people who agree with them so the creme rises to the top. I don’t find book reviews in the media very reliable at all. They most often are positive and I’ve bought way too many books with compelling subject matter but that I couldn’t finish because the writing just wasn’t exciting enough to keep me engaged. Also you can write your own reviews. It’s cool to see what my fiends are reading too, how they rate the books - and you can recommend books to them by direct message. But the other top thing about the app is FINALLY I have a place to chart all the books I’m thinking of reading. Not only that but you can save them as well as read books in “bookshelves’ - so by the category of your choice. Now a new terrific thing I discovered - the Goodreads top 10 books of any given year is a reliable place to find strong writers. I just devoured 2 from the list. Fabulous. It has got me reading again and I am really enjoying it!!!.Version: 3.13
Goodreads rocks!I have been a Goodreads participant for a few years now, and I LOVE it! I never buy a book anymore without checking the ratings on Goodreads. It’s a great place to keep track of the books you’ve read and the app is excellent! My only disappointment is the fact that I can’t give half star ratings!.Version: 3.11
Great appSuch a good way to track what am reading, what I want to read, and what I've already read. I use it for work to make recommendations and to find new books (I work at a bookstore) Love it. Can't see myself ever uninstalling this app..Version: 3.8.1
App heats up phoneI love goodreads ( the web version) and the iPhone app is great except every single time I have it on, my phone heats up and feels like it’s about to explode. Maybe there is a memory leak somewhere or it’s using wayyy more cpu than it needs to, I don’t know, but please fix!!.Version: 3.24
GIVE US HALF STARS!!!Love this app sooo much, but there is so much wasted potential. The fact that reviews from 5-12 years ago also say that the platform should give us half stars is beyond me. How have they not, in 12 years, added this feature? As well, you can’t easily reply to peoples comments, you have to use the web version not the app which is really frustrating. The whole thing promotes communication on books with a community of book lovers, but makes it so hard to actually communicate. Also, there are constant glitches with this platform/app. The amount of times it just stops working or crashes or certain features glitch for days on end is ridiculous. This app has sooo much potential but is in serious need of an overhaul, and I hope they actually finally do something. You can’t keep it the same way it was 12 years ago, please it’s time for some innovation and upgrades!.Version: 4.14.1
Love it but...I love this app BUT I'd love the ability to give half stars or even a rating out of 10 rather than 5. So many books are a 3.5/5 but a 3 star review vs a 4 star is a big difference in my books!.Version: 4.11.0
HALF STARS WHEN?????I think everyone is consistently confused why they refuse to make any substantial updates to their app. Like nothing has changed in years. The app is so clunky and ugly and non customizable. WHY CANT WE GIVE HALF STARS?! Why is there no dark mode? Why does the UI still look like a toddler designed it? WE BEG PLS DO SOMETHING AND UPDATE YOUR APP.Version: 4.30.0
Friend’s challengeWith the new update we can’t see friend’s reading challenge anymore - bring it back please 🙏🏻.Version: 4.23.6
Bring back friends reading challengesI don’t like the update to reading challenge feature. Bring back the old version. I want to be able to easily see my friends’ challenges all in one screen, just as it was before. This serves as motivation to read more but also helps me see which books I want to read. I don’t care about community challenges. I also want to see all read books on main challenge screen. Without those old features, I am not sure I want to use this app anymore..Version: 4.23.6
Friend’s challengesPlease bring back the page where you can see all your friend’s reading challenges!.Version: 4.23.6
Good but needs improvementI really like being able to keep track of and rate what I’m reading and it’s also nice to see what books my friends are currently reading. However, it can be REALLY slow to load my feed and sometimes I’ll just straight up get an error message. Another issue is that the UI can be really awful sometimes- if someone comments on your status you don’t even get a notification for it and there’s no way to reply to their comment. Some features such as messaging and groups are really hard to find in the UI too..Version: 3.25
SO GOODThank you so much I love books!.Version: 4.34.0
Add on idea for the app.You guys should add a timer so people can time to see how long they’ve been reading or see how much they can read. It made reading a lot of fun for me on another app I used before I downloaded this one..Version: 4.34.0
Half-stars?I love Goodreads. Perfect for bookworms who read too much books in a year to keep track of them all. Only one thing is REALLY missing : being able to give half-stars to books. There’s a lot that can happen between 3.5 and 4 ⭐️.Version: 4.33.0
📚I wish it still had the part where you could see how many books ahead or behind you were for your reading goal.Version: 4.23.9
New UpdatePlease please bring back the look of the old reading challenges (2024) … it’s so difficult to use the new update. I have no idea how far along I am supposed to be and the new motivation quests are unimportant to my goal 😭.Version: 4.23.9
UpdatePls put the reading challenge back to the way it was. I wanna snoop on my friends reading goals.Version: 4.23.9
Please add a did not finish optionLove this app so much!! Would change nothing except the fact there’s no “did not finish” option.Version: 4.23.6
