Amadine: Vector Design and Art Positive Reviews

Undo & RedoAmadine is fantastic and has many things to offer for digital artists like me. I've used it quite heavily, and I really enjoy what I'm able to create while using it. Although it has many features, as well as options to choose from, I'm afraid there's only ONE thing stopping me from permanently switching over from Vectornator. As someone who makes mistakes quite often, I find it INCREDIBLY tedious having to press an extra button every time just so I can undo/redo something. I beg you developers, PLEASE make an option to where you can have the undo & redo buttons readily available for you on the canvas. That would be a fantastic addition, and I could definitely see Amadine becoming my number one app for creating digital art if that were to become a reality. Thank you for reading. (:.Version: 1.5

Better than Adobe Illustrator for iPadDuring the time Illustrator was for iPad, it lacked many of the tools from the desktop version. And it still does at this point in time, and therefor making Amadine a better program. Amadine, a newer software, features all of the same tools as the desktop version, whereas the industry standard, Adobe, is behind. That’s a shock! What Amadine has that Illustrator does not is a width tool, a transform tool, a perspective tool, a knife tool, the scissors tool, the ability to add multiple appearances per object, and more layer options. As basic and important as these tools are for a vector program, Illustrator included less important functionalities such as different brush presets. Amadine is definitely worth a better choice for the much more generous price and more control over vector graphics. Illustrator is not ready yet for commercial release. Amadine is. Edit: Also, fantastic update of the Draw Tool continuing from end points, and I love the Fusion Tool surprise. A shape builder equivalent is something many users will love!.Version: 1.2.8

ExcellentI think this is my favorite vector tool for iPad. Just so clean and well done, but needs some adjustments. The Pen tool should work just like we’ve known the pen tool to work since the earliest day of it. Currently it doesn’t behave like it does in something like Illustrator or Vectornator. Let’s say you are trying to draw a crescent moon, when you close the path and pull the pen tool should be curving the line in the shape of a crescent moon. There shouldn’t be another step to achieve this. Currently you have to go in and put the curve in manually which is just not how we all know how a pen tool behaves. Really hoping you guys can get an update in to fix this. I’d love to subscribe or buy the software but that small function in the pen tool is crucial to workflow..Version: 1.4.6

Very nice!As someone who’s paid for Affinity Designer, and hated it, as well as tried Vectornator—I found it difficult to use—I’m connecting with this app & im finding it to be more user friendly than the two I mentioned. I’m not a graphic designer, only an artist who’s been using Procreate for over 1 year. So, I cannot comment on the specifics of the capabilities, or rather, what it should have as a vector-based app. I’ve, unsuccessfully, tried to learn vector-based illustration because I feel it’s a necessary next step in expanding my art. I hope to be able to produce work for my IG account, and for producing downloadable & printed products. Thanks for this app! Please, please, don’t abandon this app, as it seems to be off to a great start, & we need a more user friendly approach to vector graphics, based on my own experience & what I’ve seen on offer in the App Store..Version: 1.2.2

Thoughtfully CraftedI already have two vector apps (each with its own advantages, disadvantages, and feel) installed on my iPad, so I wasn’t looking for another one. But I happened to see a developer spotlight on Amadine in the App Store, and downloaded the free trial which generously has no time limit (just can’t save to the gallery). Once I got familiar with the tools and menus, I noticed how easy, simple, and most of all pleasureable it was to create my artwork. On top of that, there’s no subscription. 10 bucks for an app this good? Sure, I’ll keep my other apps around, but I’ve fallen in love with Amadine. If you’re a vector lover, I highly recommend taking Amadine for a test drive..Version: 1.3

Decided to get Lifetime License within a day!As a person looking for an alternative to Adobe Illustrator, Amadine proved to be an impressive alternative that had all the tools I was looking for — at such an wonderful price, too! Regardless if you are just getting started or are already familiar with making vector art in other programs, Amadine is a very simple app to use that makes doodling on the go comfortable! If it had one setback, I would say the inability to export other file formates that support layers is regrettable. I would like to animate some of my vector art, but layers would be necessary..Version: 1.5.5

So far, so good! Just curious about Image Trace?Hey! I’ve been using Amadine for a few months now after deleting Vectornator / Linearity Curve for personal reasons. So far, Amadine has been really great for me! However, I’m wondering if an Image Trace feature is available in the app, and if so, where is it, or if not, are you working on that feature? It’d be really great to bring a scanned paper and pen drawing into Amadine to help me with comics and stuff! Or simply take a digital PNG drawing from another art app and turn it into a Vector object in Amadine!.Version: 1.5.4

IPad and MacAmadine is such a great vector drawing application. I have purchased it for both my iPad and Mac. Having recently got a non-Wacom pen monitor on my Mac I was pleased to find that its pressure capabilities were fully supported there (unlike other illustration apps). Additionally drawing in Amadine on the iPad is a joy. Sharing files between my devices has proven not just convenient but almost invaluable. It’s wonderful to have a high quality alternative to the hegemony of the legacy drawing application publisher..Version: 1.2.2

HiIm a vector illustrator and I love it but i would love it more if there was an option to preserve your custom made strokes .... apart from this it’s perfect.Version: 1.2.2

Exactly what I was looking for and moreI use Adobe Illustrator on desktop and have been looking for an app to use on my iPad to take art with me on the go. After trying several other apps (including Illustrator on the iPad), I found they were missing core features I need for my art style. I finally found Amadine, and it has every feature that I need and is easy to use. I’m thrilled!.Version: 1.4.3

Awesome app!Amadine feels really natural for me, although I'm just starting with the vector graphics. I was able to find my way through all the features thanks to tutorials and now thinking of using this skill not only as a hobby, but as a support for my daily work. Love the interface and how I can make use of all the native gestures. Would love to see rounded corners!.Version: 1.4.5

Great app!I am not a pro graphic designer, but I’ve been trying different softwares over the years that would help me transform my imagination into illustrations. Amadine's perfect balance of simplicity and features can do the trick! The Snap to Grid option enables creation of figures where lines neatly meet curves and axes. Love the recolor, as it gives me more freedom in color choice for my works..Version: 1.4.5

Not badI recommend. Not bad compared to common vector drawing apps. I suggest improving the UI, more specifically, perhaps allowing people to choose - layouts, where the toolbars should go, compact vs non or full screen, everything at once or super compact. But regardless, I like it. Do recommend low price monthly or buy to purchase indefinitely. Would have not tried if it was limited..Version: 1.0.1

Well Worth $10!I learned vector drawing on Macromedia Freehand in the late 90’s. I bought it and have been using it, and an updated version, since. I’ve been searching for something similar for the iPad that isn’t a subscription; I prefer to purchase an app. My purposes are simple. I don’t need Illustrator or Indesign (which is magical after using Pagemaker!). Okay, I’m a little behind the times. I wanted something familiar. Imagine my elation when I discovered that Amadine does everything I want to do, plus some! It’s easy to use, much like what I’m accustomed to. Thank you so much for this wonderful app!.Version: 1.2.5

So convenientI started using this app as a replacement to adobe illustrator and needless to say, im very impressed. All the needed tools and there, and keyboard shortcuts are supported, plus the interface is so simple and it doesnt give you a headache trying to search for tools.Version: 1.2.7

Easier to use.Out of all the vector drawing apps in the app store this one is the easiest to get right into and use. If you don't like Affinity Designer because of the ginormous interface, try this one instead!.Version: 1.4.3

Really want to like itI really want to like this app but after downloading, I couldn’t export my creation to check its compatibility with my other programs. I don’t want to pay for this if I’m not going to be able to use seamlessly with my other programs. Why can’t I svg export without paying?.Version: 1.4.6

Only thing i can say is just wowVery professional, clean and easy to use. I love it and this is surprising for me that this app is free to use.Version: 1.2.2

Labor intensiveI’m kinda confused on why I need to tap twice on a tool in. Or dear to use it. The UI is kinda bland and you really have no settings to change. Hoping this makes a massive overhaul soon..Version: 1.2

I can’t even export a fileI was gonna use this app to make stuff and export them as svgs but I have to pay..Version: 1.4.1

A Few Improvements AwayI feel like this app is a handful of small improvements, and two big ones, away from being competitive with paid apps, and I say that as a fan of Affinity’s apps and Desktop software. Vectornator is the only thing close, but its UI isn’t nearly as friendly to the iPad workflow. This app desperately needs two things. First is the ability to set more options than just color of guides and a couple other things. Second is for palm rejection / disable touch for tool input to be part of those options. It should say a lot about what I feel the potential of this app is when I give it 4 stars but also say I’ve never encountered worse palm rejection in my entire life. There’s clearly an attempt at it, but using my Apple Pencil 2 I still spent a good third of my time building shapes on dealing with stray points my hand placed, which is kinda unacceptable when the Pencils are the closest you’ll get to proper mouse input and the normal accuracy of vector tools on iPad. The ability to disable or tweak guides is a must, as at the moment the smart guides are too aggressive while making adjustments to points and not aggressive enough when moving large objects around the canvas. The ability to customize gestures would also be appreciated as I found some desired functionality only available as part of compound gestures that included ones I did not, especially when constraining scale. Beyond these the issues are small and don’t prevent the app from functioning as intended. The app could use canvas rotation, it’s very odd that it doesn’t have it. The UI scale on anchor points needs to increase on zoom, it’s borderline too small to begin with, and remaining that size for detail work is a pain. Things like the edit segment by dragging tool are difficult to use, likely because the segment UI remains extremely small even at max zoom, and I found myself having to attempt adjustments multiple times before the program responded. It would as be nice if tools like edit segment by dragging were context sensitive. Also on that topic it’d be nice if edit segment by dragging averaged the new handles with the point it was dragged from and any other handles on the originating anchor instead of just sticking them out in the direction of the drag, as I don’t think it ever gave me anchor handles that didn’t need to be fixed - thus kinda defeating the point of the tool to not require you to mess with anchors to adjust stuff. There are a few others, but these are the issues I encountered most frequently. Beyond that I think this app blows other free offerings away in terms of ease of use and intuitiveness. It also lets you output svg instead of just its own proprietary format..Version: 1.0.7

Full Version?How: …Where do I install the full version of Amadine?.Version: 1.2.1

Excellent vector art appI’ve been using Adobe Illustrator for over 20 years, and until Amadine there has not been a viable vector art app for iOS (including Adobe’s own app, which has a one-time demo period which foolishly prevents me from testing new features). Amadine is a well-made vector app. Looking at the version history, I seem to have discovered it after a lot of features were added that I’d consider essential, so my opinion might have not been as high in the past. But very pleased with the current iteration despite some features I’d like to see added. But even as-is, it’s a stable and powerful vector art app for iPad. There are obviously some iOS limitations that the app cannot be faulted for, like placed/linked images. But most of the core features you’d want in a minimalist vector art app are present. Sure, there are some very useful advanced tools in Illustrator that aren’t present here. But there are a surprising amount of them present. I’ve tried to use other iPad vector art solutions, but none ever made the cut. Either too buggy, unintuitive tool/interface design, or just plain confusing or annoying to use. Amadine strikes a great balance between functionality and a minimalist interface. Sure, there are areas to improve. But overall it’s great. And being actively developed, hopefully we will see more and more refinement and additions in time. I set myself a task of completing a typical piece of art for print that I’d typically create in illustrator. With a few workarounds for certain tools or features not (yet?) present in Amadine, I was easily able to complete my task with a few simple workarounds. And some things were even easier, due to the rotating canvas, and other smart innovations for familiar tools in a touch-screen interface environment. If you are an Illustrator user, you’ll be pleased with Amadine. And with an unlimited demo for the app, you’ll be able to explore the tools at your own leisure while you get familiar with the interface. *Edited this review in March 2023 to add back the one removed star for lack of CMYK support, which has been added. This makes Amadine a very useful print production tool. After using this app for quite some time and a lot of projects, I have been very pleased with it. There are also many workflows that have been implemented better in Amadine. I think the only major tools I am missing from Illustrator are Global Swatches, the Transform effect as an Appearance, and Offset Path as an Appearance (or any availability of Offset Path). All of these can be somewhat worked around, unlike the former lack of CMYK. Can recommend this app without hesitation at this point..Version: 1.4.6

Great appGreat love it.Version: 1.0.7

GoodGoooooooood good good good 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍.Version: 1.0.4

Amazing!I loved this app on the Mac and I love it on the iPad. I use it to make thumbnails for my YouTube videos and it’s easy to use..Version: 1.0.2

Overselling the brushes, lots of bugs(Hopefully my other, more important review is still here, but there are a few other things I wanted to point out). ………………. The “customizable, professional vector brushes” they’re listing, are ovals. That’s it. You can change the width, angle, and size. ………………. Cont re. UI for node editing. Given the many gestures available, and some context dependant, I expected there would be a gesture to add nodes while in the pointer, but nope. For some reason you can add layers of fill, stroke and effects to a shape, but you can’t delete them, only hide. ………………. No ability to tweak your pressure curve, but the lines turn out well, I just have a light hand so everything is extra thin. ………………. here is no smoothing tool, there is a simplify setting, but very little control over how it will be applied, and I’ve had mixed results with it. Have to apply it the entire shape instead of targeting segments. You can warp, rotate individual nodes - but only on the canvas! The menu option insists on altering the whole shape. Not a big deal, just odd. There is at least one symbol that is used to mean two different things, so I keep hitting the wrong one. ………………. No symbols functionality. ………………. No ability to save in a more cross-compatible format (often used for stock art, can’t remember what it’s called). Gradients are saved oddly - the centres may move dramatically when imported, but the color progression will remain - so far seems to happen to about half the gradients? I’ve only done one project using it so far. ………………. BUGS GALORE! Problems with line rendering, both holes in odd places, and extra lines that can’t be removed. It would be reasonably fixable, if annoying, if the boolian “and” operation wasn’t also buggy. Sometimes it adds, sometimes it intersects! Occasionally nodes will just…. Not accept edits. ………………. If this was a beta, I’d say it’s amazing, but the problems with critical UI segments, and plethora of bugs make it frustrating to use beyond drafting out a design. I’d still recommend downloading it, but only using it to bounce vectors in and out of for the warp feature, and if painting initial line work..Version: 1.2.8

Great app!User-friendly interface, shape builder tool, text along the curve, shapes library, variable stroke width and handy width tool for in-place stroke width editing, recolor panel etc. That's impressive!.Version: 1.5.3

Full featured appIt’s full featured app with great UX. It feels buttery smooth and surprised it’s free 😱!.Version: 1.2.7

Nice but can be betterIt is good and with this app u don’t need turn on your pc. because u can do your vector jobs in this app but it’s not completely. it can be better and i know this team trying to publish best app..Version: 1.2.3

Best vector app on IOS!I’ve tried a bunch of vector apps and this is the best - Love the width tool. The usual keyboard short cuts work which is a bonus. Small wishlist: quick toggle stroke/fill, rotate canvas, and ability to edit width profiles.Version: 1.2

My new go to vector app!Amadine has very rapidly become my favourite vector app to work with. I love the streamlined interface, fantastic tools, and ease of use. I can spend more time designing and being an artist instead of trying to figure out the over inflated lists, menus, and fluff of some of my other apps. On top of all of that the developers are very responsive to their users’ requests and feedback. This app is rapidly growing and improving all the time. The developers also have a very nice desktop publishing app on Mac. Hope they’ll consider bringing that to the iPad in the future. Keep up the good work!.Version: 1.2
