What’s up with the notifications?Okay, I don’t mind the large, no, MASSIVE chapter gaps. We can just read them elsewhere. For the titles that I do read here, I’ve noticed that I haven’t been getting the notifications. I also can’t say I’m a fan of the “First Time Read” concept, it’s kind of dumb that we don’t have the option to go back and reread. You could have something similar to Webtoon’s DailyPass. Instead of the 14-day availability, we could watch an ad at the start to “unlock” the chapter as well as the ad that you already have at the end of each chapter. Then we could watch an ad for each time we reread that chapter or just permanently “unlock” the chapter after watching x number of ads. An additional way of doing this would be similar to the point system on Zedge: watch ads -> claim points -> stockpile however many points the chapter you want to read costs -> permanently(?) unlock the chapter. This would also be appreciated for the titles that have a relatively large gap between chapters..User=anonymousVersion: 1.8.3

Editing my review: No issues in a whileI gave this app a mid rating because they choose to drop almost all of their new chapters on 2 days, Sundays & Wednesdays, but couldn’t handle the traffic. It was frustrating for a month or two, but it’s been a significant amount of time since I’ve had to wait until Monday to read the Sunday drops, due to the apps inability to work. They also added a new interface a couple months ago that makes it way easier to find new releases. If I could change two things, which are minor, it would be to have the app take you to the series page when you click on it, instead of opening the most recent chapter. It can cause some confusion when you’re diving into a currently running series, in terms of keeping up with which chapters you actually read and did not read. And lastly, instead of keeping a small, minuscule amount of exclusives on SJ, just add One Punch Man & Dark Gathering. And the bangers y’all are hiding behind the Viz app paywall. Snowball Earth, Cosmos, Magical Girl, Dandelion, Mao, Tokyo Fears Rapsody, all of em; just put them on Manga Plus, already. The app possibilitiesThis app has great potential to being one of the best manga reading app but the problem with the app is that the only available manga is that of the ones you mainly find in Shonen Jump. Also there are a few manga with a huge gap of chapters missing making hard to truly get into the manga. So a way for this app to reach its full potential would to start adding a lot more manga from different publishers/ distributors so there could be a larger variety of manga which would draw more people into using the app. Also for the mangas that are missing a large chunk of their chapters should have them slowly become available so people could really get invested in the manga. The app has changed a lot the old reviews are now meaninglessYeah so a couple months ago they made it so that pretty much everything is free, upon first read, then you have to buy. This applies to 90% of everything on the app, and everything else is going through “re-releases” where you can read old stuff week to week as if it were coming out fresh, which is interesting in of itself if you don’t mind not binging already existing material. The best app for MangaThis app is so amazing with its UI and Comment Section that gives a greater sense of community as well as the price. This app constantly feels like it’s getting better as well as add features for everyone to enjoy. Unlike other Manga apps this one feels like you’re part of a community the same thing that Crunchyroll had before they removed it, here’s to hoping these guys never remove it! They have all the manga you could ever want and at its price. Good service, odd updateThe app updated recently, and got a new visual overhaul. The pricing structure changed a little bit too, but I’m honestly fine with it. They offer you a few different ways to be able to purchase a subscription and read the manga that you would like to read honestly, the whole thing is fine. But the visual overhaul is a little unsettling. Everything used to be sorted by the date, and you would always be able to see the series title, and what day it came out on. That way you could easily tell if something had just gotten an update. now it’s fairly tricky to tell what day something came out, so it can be a little tricky to know if you’re looking at today’s updates or yesterdays updates. People Don’t Seem to Understand the Purpose of this AppJust to clarify, this app is not intended to allow one to read all of a series (with some exceptions) all for free. The purpose of this app is provide a legal platform for new Jump chapters to be free and available worldwide in English/Spanish simultaneously with the Japanese release. Previously, only certain English-speaking countries had access through Viz’s Shonen Jump digital magazine subscription. Now, however, the latest 3 chapters (and newer series have moved to latest 6 chapters) are free to read simultaneously the same time chapters release in Japan. If you’re looking to read an entire Jump series such as My Hero Academia or Black Clover, this is not the app you’re looking for. The Shonen Jump and/or Viz app may be worth checking out (if it’s available in your country), as they offer a $2 subscription so you can read all backlog chapters. If those apps aren’t available from your country, then unfortunately you have less options, such as importing the English paperback volumes (some online stores such as Book Depository or Blackwells have worldwide free shipping), VPNs, or the unfortunate necessity to pirate. If that is you, then I implore you to email/support ticket Viz to offer their subscription in more countries, and to ask MangaPlus/Shueisha to create a payment option in the app to be able to purchase chapters or have a subscription similar to Viz. As for the MangaPlus app itself, I have a couple requests, such as stitching double spreads together when reading on iPad vertically, as well as a way to log into an account across multiple devices. DisappointingThis is not a review of the content in the app, purely the app itself. The system they have in place where when you finish something for the first time it locks it forever is quite annoying, but excusable if it weren't for the fact that its EXTREMELY laggy. Once, i was reading a series and i was really into it but when i got to a chapter all the pages were blank, so I waited for it load. It never loaded and instead kicked me out of the app by itself I wouldn't mind this too much, but with said system in place when i got back in the app the chapter was locked and I would've had to download another app and pay to read it "Again". OK app with broken notificationsThis app is fine if you want to read shonen manga for free, once, and only a set amount of the earliest and latest chapters available in the app; the rest are locked with no way of accessing (no subscription or points system). I would use it to preview something without paying and then use other means to read the whole series. Otherwise, if you can, paying for the Shonen Jump subscription on the Shonen Jump app is better. Sign in and no current read.It’s ok but it doesn’t truly give you the option to sign in. I just simply put my name and a photo. But I had trouble with it on my iPad. I got the subscription on my phone but my iPad I had to delete then reinstall and click restore purchase but it doesn’t show my name. And it doesn’t have a “current reading” spot or something that has you saved where you left off. I have to go to the manga and it shows all chapters and then click what chapter i was on. Potential to be the best since Manga RockHonestly, I’ve had a hard time finding a good manga reading app since manga rock had permanently shut down. I used a couple but they had their flaws that turned me off to them really fast. Chapter gapsThis app is a really great place to read your favorite mangas but I just wish that there weren’t ginormous gaps between chapters in certain mangas. The App Is Better Than EverSo up until a couple months ago, the app was functioned to serve the first three chapters of a manga to introduce, and the last/recent three chapters for people caught up. Lo-res scansI don’t know if this is a widespread issue across the industry or not but the scans are pretty low-res. for context i’m on an iphone 16 plus, which is a so a pretty big phone but still. if i zoom in for details at all things get blurry real fast, so i can’t imagine what it’s like on an ipad. it’s honestly really disappointing. otherwise the free tier is pretty great. even though you can’t re-read chapters, having access to everything is worth it and the only ads you see are pictures that come at the end of chapters and you can quickly breeze past them which is fantastic!.Greg LamontVersion: 2.0.6

Love it but…This app is great when it works! It has a huge catalogue that gets updated daily and it has a decent reader but the reader keeps giving me issues! Great app!Loving the app thus far! It’s a great way to read the latest chapters of your favorite Shonen Jump series, and I love the layout of the app and the fact you can leave comments for each chapter! Favourite app of 2024MangaPlus is the gold standard: high quality scans right from the publisher, cheap subscription, huge range of Jump titles from outside of Shonen Jump too. Amazing app but few suggestionsI understand some people are angry that they locked some titles behind a “paywall” but how else is everyone gonna make a living? It’s a very reasonable price considering standard and deluxe and since I enjoy manga a lot I didn’t hesitate to get deluxe. I like how it barely uses any cellular data but it would also be nice if there was an offline feature to download manga so you can read with no internet/data. I know adding a feature like this would increase the amount it is to pay for deluxe, but I see no problem in this for it would be amazing to read manga offline. Overall, I see no major flaws with this app and find it really great that shuesha (forgive me if I spelled shuesha wrong) found such a great way to read manga legally. Slow loadingI really want to love the Manga Plus app. It boasts an impressive library of manga that I'm eager to dive into, and I've even committed to a paid subscription to support the creators and access all the content. However, my experience on my iPad Pro has been consistently frustrating, to the point where I'm seriously considering canceling my subscription. The biggest issue by far is the excruciatingly slow loading times. Whether it's the very first page or a subsequent one, I'm frequently met with a black screen and forced to wait long periods before the manga page finally loads. This breaks the immersion and makes reading a chore rather than a pleasure. For a premium service on a powerful device like the iPad Pro, this performance is simply unacceptable. It's a shame, as the content itself is fantastic. But if I can't reliably and smoothly read the manga I'm paying for, the value proposition quickly diminishes. I sincerely hope the developers address these performance issues soon, as it's currently holding back what could otherwise be a truly excellent manga reading experience..MexigreekVersion: 1.28

Re: recent updateLike many others, I think the most recent update was a poor decision or at least rolled out at a poor time. most people are struggling right now financially, and paying for subscriptions isn’t really feasible (I know that’s how it is for me). I thought manga plus had a decent set up previously, and I had no issues with the app, but lost some time to be able to read. so I re-downloaded it, unsure of where I was last left on some series I was reading but now I honestly can’t tell. with the subscription lock icons, I can’t tell which chapter i’m on to even see if it’s worth paying for the subscription or not.. which honestly I probably can’t do right now. it’s hard because I want the mangaka and the people that make these translations possible to be paid for their work obviously, I just think it should have been implemented from the start and that’s where people are upset. something that was once accessible now isn’t, and I do think that unfortunately many will turn to scanlations once again. Please change back the Browse screenAfter making the Updates page needlessly complicated and adding a “Hot” page that I’m not even sure who benefits from or who asked for it, the changes to the Browse page in your recent update is the most egregious one. Gone is the page I usually used the most, as it gave me a clear view of all currently ongoing series, divided by sub-publisher (SJ, SJ+ and others) and it has been replaced by this useless, noisy page full of random lists that add no value to your app. I just want a quick and consistent way to check everything at a quick glance. Awful UI after updateUser Interface is worse after the recent update. In the updates page, they only show a picture of the series cover and the chapter title. So if you don’t know the series cover, you can accidentally read the wrong manga and use up your free chapter. Doesn’t help that the covers are smaller now and aren’t seperated by update day(at least as far as I can tell) aside from the “New” label. When you try to read a chapter, it opens a prompt to select the language. Which is annoying. Why can’t I just set it all to one language in the settings? I doubt many users are constantly reading two or more different language translations The spoiler warning when you open the comments is nice though. Appreciate the effort. New “daily view” design on iPad is brokenThe new design with the calendar view is functional on mobile, but on iPad you can only see the days of the week and the first manga listed. This makes navigation incredibly difficult and cumbersome. Please introduce some actual proper scaling / responsive design to tablet size. Not sure why this navigation change was made at all, since it introduces more unnecessary taps on all platforms and it is chronologically confusing to see the past days listed to the right of the current day depending on the day of the week. Additionally, I’d like to raise up a bug that has existed on tablet for a while, when in landscape view with two pages shown, if you navigate/multitask away and come back the right page will be slightly smaller and out of alignment, making double-page spreads look bad. Needs a lot of improvementAlways slow, occasional odd panels due to properly load pages in app. It is okay for an official free manga reading app. But it needs a lot of work aside from this. They need to allow for actual accounts to be made in order to have true cross platform compatibility. I like to read on my Boox but I have to look for everything manually because there’s no account to keep track of all of my reading progress between my iPhone and tablet. I feel like having that option would get them more people who also switch between devices to subscribe, if in-app subscriptions were tied to accounts, then cross platform compatibility would be even better. Bad UI, extremely SlowThe developers of the app have tried many changes over the years to improve the UI, but it’s never been good. 1. You can never tell what manga in your library have new chapters, forcing you to look at them and scroll to the bottom. 2. The new highlights page is a bloated mess, it’s so difficult to look through especially as it only shows one day’s updates at a time. 3. Changing languages you need to press a little button in the corner rather than the big prominant button at the bottom 4. It doesn’t save age or language preferences 5. Each opened chapter is it’s own “window”, meaning you’ll need to close several to truly exit. 6. The app won’t save your position in a chapter. 7. If you turn off your device and come back later it won’t allow you to reload, you have to exit the chapter then go back in. Also the app has gotten so slow at loading chapters lately that I have to leave it open for a few minutes to avoid blank pages (it often doesn’t load the last page.) New UI update isn’t great and has brought bugs to the reader somehow.New UI has made what was already a pretty user unfriendly UI into something that has some good but mainly bad. I like that the new updates to series can be separated by date, but on days like Sundays or others where a lot of series get updates its possible for many of them to get buried by the UI’s inability to show all the new updated titles on the home screen, some of the less viewed titles are cut off. DisappointedI downloaded this app a little while ago, before that big update, and back then it was a really good app. I got to read things on my to-read list with relative ease. My friends who used the app didn’t really like how if you didn’t read a chapter in time it would be gone basically for ever, but I thought that it was good that people didn’t have infinite gratification with there manga. Very disappointedI downloaded this app because I wanted to read the demon slayer manga I got to episode 3 and then... EPISODE 204?! Why free only for the first time?I love One Piece, so I decided to read the manga to catch up on the series, as I have not read the anime much at all. Cancelled My SubscriptionThis used to be the best mobile app as an American to read manga in English, like I so love to do. I paid for the subscription and was happy with the breadth of releases that we got, the UI, and the smooth reading experience. They pushed some UI overhauls, which I don’t mind, but now the reader is an extremely frustrating experience. There are more popular manga like demon slayer or my hero academia on this app that go up to chapter 3 (or lower) and then skip to 206 or 368 and it makes me incredibly angry. An Absolute JokeI marginally appreciated that they’ve made reading manga releases slightly more official- the execution of this app is pathetic. Greedy subscription, not worth it.Because of Manga Plus’s new policy, I cannot read the manga that I downloaded the app to read without a subscription because it was recently finished. I figured I would try it out to see if it was worth it. It is not. Loading errors and issues repeatedly, poor image quality with heavy pixellation and noise despite setting the image quality to ‘high’, unreadable smaller text, and issues with Shueisha’s translations. I did not appreciate the “subtle” self-advertising by inserting their name as “Shoowaysha” into any referenced publisher within the manga I was reading. There were numerous typos and sentences that didn’t make sense, untranslated parts, and inconsistent and inaccurate localizations. I would hope that any licensed or “official” translation would strive to represent the original text as closely as possible, without errors or incessant irrelevant references. Just read the manga online elsewhere. There are a ridiculous amount of missing quality of life features too. Why can I not quickly resume the manga I was reading? I have to go to my favourited mangas, and then scroll down to the in-progress chapter.
