Overall, I’ve had a positive experience with the Barnes and Noble app. There were some issues when I first downloaded the app (I would have to sign in every time I opened the app, the screen would freeze, or I’d get an infinite loading error), but since their most recent update everything has been running smoothly, and all of these problems have been rectified (for me at least). I like being able to compare prices, being able to browse books, see what’s popular or coming soon, I like how the app is laid out and how easy it is to find and access whatever you’re looking for, I like being able to see my stamps and how close I am to my reward, I like being able to order from the app and being able to track my orders from within the app, I like being able to have multiple wish lists, I like all of the details that are included when viewing a book (They even include the book’s Lexile!), I like being able to see up and coming events, and I like being able to show an associate my rewards card barcode instead of making them type in my long email lol. I give the app 4 stars only because it took them so long to fix the issues, and I would love a feature within the app that tells you the location of a book within the store you’re visiting
I’ll start by saying I personally have never had any issues or problems with the app, but that’s me. Will definitely update this if I do. Now the feature I think they should add is the option to filter out 18+ content… aka “spicy” content. “Spicy” scenes have (in my opinion unfortunately) become very popular to add into books these days. I absolutely hate this kind of content in my books, I think it would just be more convenient to add a feature that filters out these books entirely. I usually spend 10-15 minutes making sure the book I want to buy doesn’t have this content.
Update Jan 24,2025: Workaround for iPhone app - 1) Click Enter as Guest , 2) Click on icon in upper Right corner , 3) Click on Sign In - Enter your info and your signed in. 4) Key is Do Not Click on Sign in on First screen. Need to click Sign In on the Account info page. I am having same issues as others with iPhone app - app won’t let me log in. The system icon just spins and spins. I’ve deleted and reinstalled app and get same results, no login. The app for my iPad works. Wonder if this is related to new IOS 18 ? iPad has IPadOS 18.2
It literally says on the website which they updated as well the app is undergoing an update.. it’s right on the main page and you literally get an email for any payment issues that directs you to the website. I swear people complain about anything. “I couldn’t pay for my books or I can’t order books” helloooo use the freakin website it’s not rocket science. God forbid they try to improve the app that they haven’t updated in half a year. Now we see why they don’t because folks get their panties in a bunch. 🙄

Barnes & Noble Negative Reviews and Ratings
I’ve been using the Barnes & Noble app for a little less than a year and have had no trouble until now. For the past week I’ve been going in and out of the app to see when my book will be delivered because it’s late (no big deal, just want to check), and last night when I went to go look, it had logged me out. I kept trying to sign in and when I hit continue, it just loads and loads and loads. I thought it was an issue with my phone so I powered off my phone and let it sit for a few minutes and powered it back on to try again. I tried a few more times, and again, it just kept loading. This morning I decided to try again and it still wouldn’t work. This time, I deleted the app and reinstalled it to see if that would make any difference, and you guessed it, no. I’m very frustrated because I’ve had no issues with the app until now and all I want to do is track my book and now I have no way of doing that. Please fix this.
Unfortunately the app won’t even let me log in anymore. Before it at least used to let you log in and would just log you out at inconvenient times. Now it will not let you click the boxes to enter your email and password. The app is constantly freezing when I try to look at anything, even scrolling in my own wishlist will make it crash. And every time it does this, it logs you out. The majority of the time I have to switch to my laptop to complete a transaction because it glitches and won’t let me input payment information. Half the time the information for a deal isn’t available to be viewed either, I think from the app glitching, so it’s impossible to tell if a deal is available both in store and online or strictly online. There’s so much wrong here that could be fixed to make the app an easy to use tool. I don’t know who decided to get on here and respond to reviews like people are stupid, telling me to try turning my WiFi off and on and closing any apps running in the background but this is NOT a turn it off and on situation. There are issues with this app down to the baseline. The problems happen even when it’s the only app I have open and whether I’m on WiFi or not. It’s not a consumer issue it’s a YOU issue.
This could be a really great app. I love the design of it and how easy it is to navigate. With that said this app is dreadful if a large amount of people are using it, such as when the preorder sale is announced. It starts skipping when I scroll and even stops scrolling in many cases with the whole page failing to load pictures or details. If it starts skipping I have had the experience so often I know I should just close the app and try again later because I am unable to click on anything once it seems like it’s “caught up”. There are other times the browse view just won’t load, and I get the buttons along the bottom but the core of the content is just white. I am using the latest version of the app available in the App Store and my phone is on the most up to date iOS. I hope ya’ll figure this out soon
I purchase in store and buy books online at the desk regularly, and I want to get to enjoy my premium membership to the fullest. However, I cannot place orders online, because they are always declined without fail. It says it is the verification process, and I believe it is because I am not allowed to differentiate between legal name and preferred name for the name on my account. I do not want to receive emails and be called a name I no longer go by in the app, as I am transgender. This is an issue I face constantly, and facing it from my favorite retailer is frustrating. If I order my books in store, I have no issue, but it is a thirty minute drive. It is inconvenient and I don’t see why they cannot update this verification process so that transgender individuals don’t have to put a name we no longer use to be addressed by.
I have had this app for so long now and every time I go to use it, it seems to get worse. I always get kicked out of my account, it’s so slow and seems to glitch every time. Now, when I try to login, it does this weird glitch and deletes all my information and has me try again, it did this to me 6 times and I ran out of patience and didn’t even order the book I wanted because of this app. There have been so many times that I want to order a book to get delivered and since I have my membership, I like using the app so I can get free shipping, but noooo. With this app, something always goes wrong and it discourages me and I don’t end up buying anything. When I try to search for something, it buffers for so long then it clears the search tab and goes back to the home page. So, in conclusion, this app is absolutely useless and I would suggest you save your time and patience, and use the browser instead.
Using this mobile app was one of the most discouraging experiences. As a user, I was expecting the app to help me look for the costs of books in store as well as look up books by name to know where to find them in the store. That’s where the problems began. 1. When searching by title name, the app wouldn’t even load results. I had to use the web app to access the information. 2. Your designers/developers may want to look into the search bar jumping all over the place when clearing selections and attempting to tap the barcode icon. Multiple times I was sent back to what I was previously looking at because I would clear text from the search and go to tap the barcode, and by the time I tapped (less than a second), the search bar jumped to the left to make space for cancel. So frustrating - caused many additional clicks and time. 3. Scrolling is not a seamless experience. Idk if the app is attempting to load all the results, but several times the page would freeze while it decided to load the next 2 books. I hope your product team works to fixes these problems that would keep me from using the app in the future.
This app, while it’s obviously updated with their products, is so glitchy. So laggy. So hard to even want to use it for 2 seconds. And the worst part is, it’s always been this way. Tap on a book? Takes a full minute or two to load the screen, if at all. Trying to buy? Glitches and lags for each item required to put in for purchasing. Going back to a previous page? A chore that requires you to sit your phone down and wait for it to finally load. Deleting and redownloading doesn’t fix the problem. Closing the app out doesn’t fix it. So obviously it’s the internal structure of the app that has all these issues. Mind you, i love shopping at barnes and noble (i moved to an area where the closest one is over an hour away, so shopping in store isn’t always something i can just go do) but this app is just garbage. Better off going to the website.
I love Barnes and Noble. I got the app and was excited to have access to deals etc right away. However, the loading speed is similar to dial-up and likely hood that a page with book pictures will actually load is slim. I frequently try to look at deals (like 50% off hardcovers) they have and cannot get more than 15 books down the page without getting frustrated with the operation and loading speed. To be honest, it is good for my pocket because I’d have bought many more books if the app worked well! Now(Jan ‘26) the app is worse than previous versions but those weren’t much better. I am no longer using the app and won’t except to look at if my preorders have shipped. I hope B&N improves the app!!
B&N: What is going on with this app? No seriously. How is it mid 2025 and you still haven’t figured out how to engineer a simple iOS app? There’s literally a ton of existing libraries to help you build it. I can build it for you. The amount of memory leaks that exist within this app is mind blowing. It takes 1-3 minute2 at most before the app starts lagging, presumably because the session is running out of memory. Are you caching every single thing? Or are you forgetting to clear cache as the session grows in length? If the user hasn’t made a decision about what to purchase within 120 seconds, they can forget ever actually ordering anything because the app simply won’t work. The only way around it is to force close the app and restart. But then the app signs you out, and so the cycle starts again. It’s bad. Are you taking steps to fix this?
The app is really buggy and needs major improvements. Barnes & Noble…. You are in a rare space where your customers are looking for any reason to give their money to you. I have an account and it should show all the books I have purchased. Along with that, it should allow notifications of special editions of those purchased books. You customers are readers, implement a dark mode please, it’s literally a shock to the system every time I open the app. Also, have suggestions that are not just the best sellers, but suggestions geared based on my previous purchase. Come up with your own way of tracking books. You could be the news source we need for all things book lovers want and need. The crazy thing is, this will make you millions if you just fix the dam app.
This app is a piece of actual garbage. It’s slower than molasses and the UI is terrible. Trying to search is near impossible. The amount of forced restart needed to navigate is frustrating and makes the app nearly useless. Please tell me why you give me piece of information about the book except a synopsis. Maybe a synopsis is somewhere, but I shouldn’t have to search for a basic synopsis when I select a book to learn more. Sure, all the available formats, reviews, details on the ISBN, and related author testimonials are great to include. What if I might want to know what the heck the book is about? I somehow manage to find a few books to buy since I have gift cards I would like to use and at checkout the cart glitches and won’t let me use them. Whoever made this app is bad and should feel bad about making it.
YOU’RE BETTER OFF USING THE BROWSER!! The app kicks me out of my profile constantly! I’ve signed in a million times. This most recent time, it wont allow me to input any information, getting stuck with a buffering symbol on the sign-in page BEFORE I can even put my email in. And that’s on top of how incredibly slow the app is. It takes such a long time for a book to load, and even longer to set a filter on a search (like a selecting a genre). I’ve had to contact customer service MULTIPLE times to get help with technical issues or confirm that an order went through when the app shuts down midway through processing my money. If you’re gonna have to waste your time with emails, phone calls, and a terrible AI customer service bot, why not just use the browser or go in person?
Not only are you unable to view a book or even just click anything without it crashing and freezing up, but they make it extremely hard to scroll. You'd also think every time they scan ur BN card in physical stores it'll show what u bought on ur recent purchases since its tied to ur BN account.. (target has this technology...) they should also have a "recommended" or "other in this series" option under the book when viewing a title :( cannot enjoy this app without constantly closing it just to re-do my categorices and scroll for potential books i want. Would not recommend downloading and will instead stick to physical store purchases. DO NOT USE UNTIL CRASHING IS FIXED.
The Barnes & Noble app has potential, but its performance is shockingly slow and frustrating. Navigating through the app feels like wading through molasses—every tap or scroll seems to lag endlessly. It’s especially aggravating when trying to browse or make purchases, as even simple actions take far too long to load. For a company that’s been in the business of books for so long, I expected a more polished and seamless digital experience. The slow speed makes what should be an enjoyable experience downright painful, often driving me to use other platforms instead. Unless this app sees a major overhaul to address its sluggish performance, it’s hard to recommend it for anything beyond the bare minimum. A company of this caliber should be doing much better.
Barnes & Noble is great but the app is buggy and some days downright awful. I have tried a number of different troubleshooting options (check for update, uninstall-reinstall, force close, toggle between WiFi and cellular service, etc.) but the app is consistently buggy. Some days it works okay, maybe just a bit slow loading, other days navigating the app is so sluggish that I give up, and some days like today, the app won’t even load. My husband’s experience with the app is even worse on his phone (we both have iPhone 17s, running the most up to date iOS. He doesn’t even bother with the app anymore as it makes for a miserable shopping/browsing experience.
I received a $100 gift card to use at Barnes & Noble and added to the app for easier convenience. When I went to the store to use the gift card, I was told that I couldn't use a gift card that had already been uploaded to the app and had already gotten rid of the physical gift card. It is absurd to me that a gift card that's uploaded to an account cannot then be used in store. The whole point is to buy from the store, whether that's online or in-person. I ended using my credit card, which completely defeated the purpose of getting a gift card in the first place. This feature needs to be added, so that I can use the gift cards after they've been added to the app for in store purchases. Very unsatisfied with this experience.
This app is terrible. Merely navigating away from the app to look up my payment details during checkout has permanently rendered this app unable to be signed into. Deleting the app & the data as well as temporarily turning off Wi-Fi has done nothing to resuscitate it. It's permanently ruined from a seemingly innocuous action while the software was apparently having the software equivalent of a mid-life crisis. I had to login using the browser which worked fine, indicating that the app & not the backend services of B&N are the problem. If you're reading this, don't waste your own time. Just do what you need to on the website & forego this abysmal app. The programmers here should find other jobs or hobbies, such as fishing, other than writing broken & unusable apps.
I have downloaded tried to sign in tried to complete transactions at least three times it always hangs on something before I hit submit order. I think I finally figured out the reason coming from software development myself every time you enter a letter or number into payment or address, the system sends a call to check to see if it is valid instead of uploading that to the local app or after a pause and typing. You don’t need server calls for every single key entry. I can only imagine the server load. Also disconnecting submitting pieces of a profiles information can allow that piece to go through instead of having to batch it all at once, and having a single fail, kill everything My recommendation is to find a third-party team that can come in and do optimization and consult the Internal team. You’re missing so many sales from this. It needs to be as smooth as glass. Edit: so I got the boiler plate response. Just to add another piece of context most of the issues that I’m talking about have been reported for years. Plenty of time to fix so get to it.
I’ve had this app for quite a few years now and it seems to only be getting worse. It lags, there’s errors that come up on every page. Asks me to log back in all the time. And somehow it tries to reset my password and tell me that my password is always wrong and locks me out of my account. It doesn’t show that books are in series unless you do more clicking and researching through outside sources to make sure.. I mean, sadly, it’s been a multitude of issues that prevent me from buying online or even shopping online to make sure they have certain books before I arrive at the store. I just wish it worked better.
Allegedly that update had bug fixes and I couldn’t imagine what the app functioned like before them, because here this is beyond unusable. Tapping begets a wait so frustrating it leads you to disbelieve something put out by one of the largest book sellers in the world can be so mind-numbingly tedious. My wife was able to load information quicker in Goodreads, check her email, and get bored in the time it took for one book to load- and that was after it cycled through several other pages because I thought at first it didn’t register my tap. Good luck to whomever hopes to actually use this app, it doesn’t seem designed well on the front end either, but considering the back end is so jumbled up, it’s not worth perusing.
I love to shop at Barnes & Noble and pick up my online orders at the store. I downloaded the Barnes & Noble app at the suggestion of their website. However, I found it nearly impossible to use. It is extremely slow in response, it is very difficult to press any link and get it to work, and check out is truly impossible. I have repeatedly tried to restart the app and check out. But it just stalls and keeps spinning. In addition, the app will suddenly crash and restart itself while you’re in the middle of working on something. It’s too difficult to use. From now on I will only use the website.
The short answer is the app is designed to mine a lot of info and things like Apple private relay prevent it from working correctly so it gives you blank screens. Other times it works fine but this is rare. I’ve found that once you want to pull up an individual item that’s when it usually goes down. Same happens in the Safari browser. I’ve had multiple items cancelled for payment problems and when I contact support they have confirmed it’s Apple Private Relay. If it picks up your phone in a different region than the shipping address it might cancel. Ultimately, BN could fix all of this easily but chose not to. The app is only occasionally usable and the website is usable if you switch to cellular data.
I love b&n and always get my books there and I have a membership too, but I have so many glitches throughout using it, especially during checkout. I have been trying to move a book from my cart to “save for later” and all I get is the spinning wheel of doom and freezes. I have tried rebooting the app as well as uninstalling/reinstalling the app and it does the same thing. It’s gotten worse lately and I’m getting really frustrated. So hopefully the bugs and glitches can be fixed, but since it’s been like this for at least a year (from previous reviews) I’m not too sure.
Terrible. I’m a regular customer at B&N stores as well as on the app, but I recently cancelled 3 pretty substantial orders on the app, and then finally deleted it out of frustration. You can go back a year, two years, THREE years and see people leaving the same negative reviews because the app doesn’t function well (or basically at all) for a lot of people. And going back those 3 years to every review, developer response is the exact same. “We’re working on it”, or “we’ll pass it along to our team”, which I almost guarantee will be the response to this review as well. And I also guarantee it will continue to be a broken app. Apparently it’s “good enough” for Barnes & Noble despite customer frustration. No thank you.
As a Premium Member, this app AND the website make me want to throw my phone. The app refuses to process orders sometimes, citing that they need an email address for the order even though I literally have it on file and there is no place to enter it at checkout anyway. The mobile website is a hellish loophole of constantly needing to sign in to my account for every single step of the checkout process. And the sometimes the order actually DOES go through, but the only way I actually know that is by checking my email instead of getting an “order complete” page on either interface. Incredibly disappointing and frustrating process when I’m literally trying to give you guys my money lol. I LOVE B&N BUT PLEASE DO SOME WORK TO THIS APP!
Needs a whole new revamp. like the app is laggy AND glitchy, and i feel like having it open makes my phone run hot. i was trying to do a buy online pick up in store thing but it just fully deleted one of the books from my cart when i hit the checkout button even though it showed it was available for bopis. my save for later list was completely erased at one point, too. so idk like i’m sure they want to incentivize people to stay shopping in store but that doesn’t mean you have to have a bad app. i think i speak for a lot of people in saying that a well functioning app isn’t going to pull me away from in-store shopping.
This app is just consistently inefficient for what it needs to do. It lags, freezes, crashes, logs you out (even if you were just in it), & it has poor search function. I should be able to search a specific book tile and get that book as a first result. I should be able to look at upcoming release lists when new releases load JUST fine. And every time I check when dealing with the app being problematic—there is either no update or it just had one. There are times I search online or another retail app to find a book release date while in store because it’s just easier and faster.
If you can go in person to get what you’re looking for that’d be better than using the app. The app “works” but that’s about it. Performance is slow and it can sometimes prompt you to log in again despite already being logged in. I’ve also seen book covers not load once. I basically just got the app to add the membership card to Wallet. The website is also slow but a little more responsive (Safari with AdGuard), and Rakuten works for 2% back which is neat. They have incredibly beautiful hardbacks. Easily the best book stores, if you have one around.
This app is so finicky. Some days it’ll work perfectly, and other days the search bar doesn’t operate and show any search results no matter how I type something in. Is it case sensitive? Not sure at this point. I’ll click on a specific button within the app to view new releases or something and it will say no results. My phone auto-updated to the new version for “bug fixes” but unfortunately that has not fixed the issues described above. It’s unfortunate because an app is far more convenient than trying to visit the browser each time I want to look up a book or add it to my wish list for later. Please make some changes to this app. It could be really great!
I moved 2 years ago and after moving I changed my address in the app. Since moving I have had multiple orders shipped to my new address with no issues. I recently placed an order in the app and it didn’t ask me to confirm the address. When I received the “order shipped” email I saw that it was being shipped to my old address. Why did my old address suddenly reappear? And how is it now the default address? Customer service told me there is nothing they can do. They said “if it’s undeliverable then it will be returned and I will be refunded” but everyone knows that UPS will just chunk the package at the address and mark it delivered. So I’m out $65 and someone else will get some free books.
For the past couple I haven’t been able to submit and order for pick up at my local story. After entering my pin and hitting submit it’s been saying “failed to complete order. please try again.” I didn’t have this issue in May or the past for orders. The first time this happened I tried asking customer service for help and it didn’t help at all. All I was told was to clear history/cookies. I tried deleting and installing the app and deleting and re-entering my card info and that didn’t work either. I can’t order off the website either. I don’t know what else to do on my end.
I tried to purchase items on Safari, then Chrome, the websites were so slow that I was just about to give up when I thought using the app would be the best course to complete the purchase. The app is even worst, I cannot believe the amount of errors and crashes I get, I try to add items to the cart and the app locks up, then doesn’t respond and then I need to start all over. Eventually I gave up and took my business elsewhere. The crazy thing is that normal people wouldn’t have tried multiple ways to purchase. B&N seems like they don’t care at all just by looking at the app ratings.
Hi! I love Barnes and Noble and I love reading so much. But as I continue to have the app on my phone it will log me out again and again. When I attempt to sign back in it will either be a success, not recognize me, glitch back to the sign in page, or tell me the password is invalid when it’s really not! This is incredibly frustrating as this has happened repeatedly and I want to find new books to read, this app is perfect for that, but most of the time I can’t even use it! Please fix this and look into it as soon as possible, so that I and other readers can enjoy the app. Thank you! 😊
I tired Face ID and it said it was unable to sign me in so then I tried to sign in with my email and password. Before I even input my password there was a message above the sign in button that said “password has expired due to inactivity” and that I have to reset my password. After I input my information, exit and reenter the app, and then input my information again, I then hit the same message. I just used the app last month; in fact I even renewed my membership last month as well, so my account was very much not inactive. Do I really have to reset my password? I have too many passwords and it’s a hassle to think of a new one that is as secure as possible.
This new overhaul is a massive downgrade. The app is practically unusable now. Clicking a book just glitches out and loops back to the same spot. So basically I can’t add items to cart. Even worse, the back and home buttons are totally missing on some parts of the app, so I keep getting trapped on screens. I literally have to force close the app and reopen it just to for it to open up on my dashboard, and even then, I’m stuck unless I click a past order to force the menu to show up. It worked fine before the update, granted very slowly but it still worked. Now we have a quicker app but it’s useless if you can’t get anywhere with it 🤦♀️
For a big corporation, you should expect at least a decent app. This app is so glitchy, constantly struggles with keeping me logged in, and honestly I could go on for so much longer. I literally could be on the app just fine for thirty minutes, close it, open it again, and I would have to log in five times yet it still won’t “be able to retrieve your data”. I cannot stress how much I hate this app. Almost to the point I don’t even want to be a customer of theirs anymore. It’s so stupidly bad. I could do better on the app and I know NOTHING beyond beginners website building from high school. B&N do better. Read one of those “App Development for Dummies” book maybe.
Ordering a coffee ahead so it’s ready for me to pick up while I walk around and look for a new book to read was one of my favorite things. Please bring the cafe option back to the app, it makes like so much easier for those of us who like to go to B&N and want to have a quiet, talk free experience. The number of times this app logs me out is just humorous at this point. It’s just a thing I overlook to use the app. iPhone stores my password so it’s not a huge deal. Is it annoying, sure. Does it stop me from using it, no. The missing cafe option though, that’s probably going to.
I’m currently on the most recent update and it was so hard to checkout. First it kept saying I never entered a country when it was automatically applied. I even went back and selected it myself and it still came up with the problem. Then it wouldn’t add a card, never saving either the new billing address or the card itself. Then I tried deleting an expired card and it wouldn’t do that. The checkout process was so frustrating that I had to go onto my laptop to complete the checkout process, which took all of a minute.
I’m on the most current version of this app and the performance is truly awful. I’m on high speed fiber and I’m not sure why I should be waiting 15-25 secs for a book to load after I tap on it to see the details. Going back? Looking at the various pics of an item? Awful. I’ve tried to look at a few items today and cannot get the app to swipe to see related pics. I hope these bugs can get worked out. Too worn out trying to view items, no interest in finding out if there are checkout issues.
I’m having issues logging in. Not the app telling me it failed, it just spins on login screen for forever. After seeing other reviews with developer response, I tried uninstalling, rebooting, reinstalling. Didn’t work. So I contacted support. Support acted like they didn’t know what I was talking about and redirected me to Apple. Then when I told them it wasn’t an App Store issue they tried to argue with me. Look, either there’s issue with this or not, and it so you need to properly prepare your support staff to handle this with canned info. I’m getting h the run around so I’m rating this with a 1 star. It’s a very poor experience as I can’t use the app anymore.
I don’t want to just trash on the developers here because I know app development is an uphill battle that is often dictated by time and resources instead of the competence of staff. I also do want to give grace in regards to the timing, as I’m sure servers are more burdened during Christmas, with everyone getting gift cards and excitedly seeing what Barnes and Noble has to offer, as I did today. However, other reviews seem to indicate that the problems I had today are not constrained by time. I do also want to say that I know that Barnes and Noble is more brick-and-mortar focused, which is a huge plus for me. App development may be further down the list on their overall agenda as a company. I understand that. However, I will say this is a very slow app. I downloaded it today to see my options for my gift cards to be drained. Previously I’ve just used the browser, but since I was with family and away from my computer, I thought the app would work fine. The app took around 20 seconds to open, then another 15 or so to log in. While this isn’t the worst loading time I’ve ever braved, it’s certainly not up to par with other competitors. I was comparing prices from competitors, as I will opt for Barnes and Noble for the experience and the speediness even in the face of slightly higher prices. However, the app experience was frustrating in comparison to the competitors, where I stayed logged in and pages loaded at expected times or within a few seconds delay. I ended up just switching to the browser, which I feel is a loss for multiple reasons, such as my ability to see Rewards as well as marketing data for analytics. Again, I don’t expect Barnes and Noble to be on par with online stores in regard to the app experience, but I do expect a smoother experience overall. I hope that the app development team has the time and resources to improve the app experience to support and enhance the overall Barnes and Noble experience and products.
Of the 3 orders I’ve placed on this app only one has worked and that was after calling the support line. The first time it took money out of my account and kept it on hold for over a week and when I called they said they could do nothing to fix the issue the second I used giftcards then returned the order because it was wrong. One of my gift cards did not get the money added back so I called and the person said there ‘may have been an issue on their end’ and the money should be added back in 24hours. Honestly don’t get the app it’s not worth the hassle and shopping in store is much better anyways.
The app has been unusable for over a month while updates are being made. In the meantime, users are forced to rely on the website, which is inconvenient and not well optimized for iPhone users. The company also partners with Shop Pay, which can create challenges during the purchasing process. Taking an app offline for more than a month for updates is far too long. Updates should be developed and tested on the back end, then deployed with minimal disruption to users. The current experience has been frustrating and has made accessing services unnecessarily difficult. Poorly planned execution.
I only downloaded this app to make use of the wishlist and see any rewards I earn. The wishlist is bugged out as to be unusable. It will not let me type in anything to search for a specific book. If anything, it locks the keyboard in place so you can't even go back to a different tab. Then, when I look up the information for a book that I may be interested in, the screen freezes and locks up. I feel like I'm on dial-up with how slow it takes to get the book overviews to load up. B&N, you are a multimillion dollar company, you can afford to have a working app.
Downloaded the app to order some books with the gift cards I received for Christmas. I can’t log in to my account at all. The “continue” button is already greyed out with a spinning icon like it has already been pressed. It’s been like this since yesterday. Decided to browse through the app as a “guest” and I can barely scroll before the app gets overwhelmed and starts skipping pages, won’t download the book photos, and if I click on an author it doesn’t even load the information. I have great wifi so this is pretty frustrating. Ended up just using the safari browser as it’s more reliable.
It’s been a couple months since I’ve been able to sign into the app. Followed your suggestion to delete and redownload the app, but that didn’t help anything. Useless. If I could give a zero rating, I would. **update** Uninstalled the app and left it off the phone for months. Tried reinstalling it today and can’t get past the login screen. This app is junk, honestly why after all the bad feedback have you guys done nothing to improve the functionality. It’s so disappointing considering I was able to use it really well previously and then this years updates have done nothing but destroy it
Can not open thé app!
Barnes & Noble webpage tells me I can use this app to listen to books purchased through Barnes & Noble. However, I don’t see that feature available.
Constant issues with throw app. Extremely frustrating.
The Nook app hasn’t existed in the Apple store for over a week, and customer support hasn’t gotten back to me in that time. Why get this app to buy books you can’t read? Very frustrating experience - they took my money and gave me nothing but emails that tell me to go places that don’t exist. Not even links! I’ve had to search for everything myself, only to find … nothing.
Can't find this app.... does it even exist?? Paid for a book I can't read.
It asks me to reset password but doesn’t send a link to do so. I answer the security question and the app freezes. Reinstalled and still doesn’t work. Useless App.
When purchasing ebooks they can only be read using the B&N Nook app - which sounds like you have to download as a separate app. Wish they would consider including an epub link to the books on the invoice so customers have the option to download the book to their desired app, ie Apple Books or similar. If the above isn’t possible, please consider adding a link on the B&N app to access my digital library. It’s a pain to try and navigate just to access my ebooks.
Doesn’t work in Canada 😑
I purchased an electronic version of a book. They immediately billed my card but when I try to open it, I get a “this is not available in your region”. Which is Canada. There was no warning about this. When I registered on their site, I would hope they would have warned me not to proceed. But they charged me in Canada no problem. There is no way to get actual help from them that I can find. No phone number or email. Just a FAQ section. I guess this is part of their business plan. If you cannot contact them, you cannot ask for a refund. So 1 star for horrible customer service and no stars for not delivering what they charge for.
I had to enter my address so many times, I nkw have carpal tunnel syndrome. Thanks Barnes & Nobel!
I was ripped off by these people only to find out I need another app to read my bought book. It said that their nook app isn’t available in Canada. Why have it so that Canadians can buy books on this app in the first place?
I like the old app better then the new one also the odd app logo was also better
Please add an easier list feature so I can quick add books to different (wish) lists that much easier without the need for pointless extra clicks ie let us add lists and add them straight to those rather than to the wish list then our chosen list
Feels like I downloaded the website I was excited to try this because I shop at Barnes & Noble and thought the app would make browsing and buying books easier. Instead, it mostly feels like the regular website squeezed into an app. Pages feel slow, things are awkward to move through, and I kept wondering why I didn’t just open Safari instead. For a bookstore I actually like, this is pretty disappointing. I expected something smoother and easier to use.
