Features:
Real world painting tools: Oils, Watercolors, Paint Rollers, Pencils, Crayons and more. Each tool has a range of familiar properties such as how much thinner is applied to the paint, or how soft a pencil tip is. Tools apply texture as well as color, and blend under the brush.
Add Layers to your painting and work on individual elements without damaging others. ArtRage supports a wide range of layer effects, layer blend modes, and layer contents can be scaled moved and rotated independently.
Import images, converting them to oil paint for mixing and blending or as Reference Images pinned to the canvas as a visual guide. Load photos as Tracing Images which are overlaid on the canvas, and have ArtRage select colors automatically as you paint.
The interface has been designed to maximize your creative space without hiding away critical functions such as tool and color selection. As you paint, it gets out of the way so that you don’t have to stop and manually adjust panels.

Why this new version?ArtRage has always been a go-to for realistic digital painting especially for those who like a UI that’s familiar to fine artists, with a tray of brushes and media tools instead of a Photoshop-like interface. I’ve used AR for years but when I saw this new version I thought finally they updated this app which has never really changed in over a decade. Nope…still the same. It looks and behaves exactly like the original app. So what’s “Vitae” about it? Head scratcher. Still good and worth using but wonder why it exists unless purely to dupe original users into buying. Essential item in art toolkitGlad to have ArtRage on an iPad pro. The tools are great but for me, ArtRage’s main feature is subtlety. Zoom in as much as you like, and you really don’t see pixels, just the transitions among color and intensity. None of my other great art tools do this. I’d like to see selections added to the iPad OS version..iPhone, too. The iPad version suffers from unreliable palm rejection, often resulting in the brush size widget appearing as you’re drawing, forcing you to scale the brush size up, then down, in order to dismiss it to resume seeing what you’re drawing. Would hope the devs would address this..Version: 1.0.5
A Better undo?This app would be absolutely perfect if it had a 2 finger tap undo like other art apps have. Other than that it’s great for realistic looking paintings..Version: 1.0.5
Incredible Color Blending for iPadBig thanks to the developers of this art software. With Procreate’s lack of realistic color blending I gave up on using the iPad for art. Upon buying ArtRage Vitae and seeing it immediately mix blue and yellow to create a beautiful green color I am realizing there is hope for the future of art on the iPad. The sad grey mush you get when mixing blue and yellow in inferior art programs makes ArtRage Vitae a must-buy. Just hold your finger down on the color in the lower right to access the Real Color Blending. My Bob Ross dream is coming true..Version: 1.1.5
I really want to like itI keep hoping artrage will impress me but I usually end up disappointed. Clunky U.I., lack of options, just O.K. Brushes that are often cumbersome to use and organized in a frustrating way. If you are a primarily traditional artist, and arent familiar with a lot of software, this might be good for you while you get used to digital art. But for me, an experienced digital artist, this is another letdown. Also, there is no excuse for not including 2 finger tap undo at this point. Its standard across many apps and it is SO frustrating when its not default, or an option..Version: 1.0.5
It has potentialI love ArtRage on Windows but would really love to be able to use the Apple pencil and iPad to draw. However not all of the key features are on Vitae for iPad yet so I hope the developers keep working at it. I would pay more if they included essential features like custom brush, brush designer, and stencils. But right now it doesn’t suit my needs since I need custom brushes and stencils to use this for what I really want (emulating traditional painting and calligraphy). We need to be able to control the brush shape and whether the brush angle is controlled by pencil tilt angle (azimuth)..Version: 1.0.5

Better, but…This iteration of AR is an improvement with one significant UI flaw. The tool picker and color picker are clumsy. Worse, the tool picker can’t get out of its own way. It constantly pops onto the canvas, causing you to inadvertently switch tools. One second you’re using pastel, the next an airbrush. Annoying and distracting. Using a 2021 iPad Pro..Version: 1.0.5

A good start … maybeWe’ve waited a long time for an ArtRage Mobile update. And we get this as a new program... not an update. Ok, you so maybe it was a re-write from the ground up. FWIW I use the desktop version and frankly it’s outstanding. This one ... lackluster.... I use a 10.5” IPad Pro with Apple Pencil I. Pros: ~somewhat larger canvas spaces ~Being able to make the tools larger than 100% also a con, see below. ~Option for real color blending on the color picker ~More settings for individual brushes ~More layer settings ~. Theres the clone tool which some may like. It doesn’t really do much for me. Overall - felt more like an update than a new version. Should have been transparent about that. Cons: ~Need a slider for the tool size that goes all the way up to the 500%. The slider going up to 100% then having to type in the tool size >100% is cumbersome. ~maybe it’s just me but I wasn’t getting much tilt response. I use the Apple Pencil. ~Need the saved files to appear in Files folders like other art apps. ~Of all the things to bring over from the desktop version we still can’t create our own custom brushes. ~ I understand there are some new touch gestures but I could figure them out. Maybe some help documentation would clear that up. Summary: It’s not horrible for the price paid for it, but it’s a little underwhelming from a company that produces such a good product for the desktop. I’m going to be optimistic and believe that this is a step in the direction of a really solid final product..Version: 1.0.2
