Praktika – AI Language Tutor App Comments & Reviews

Praktika – AI Language Tutor Positive Reviews

App is Awesome!!I travel to Italy a lot and this time I used Praktika as my translator, despite it not being made for that. The applications pronunciation is on par, every friend of mine in Italy has said this application has the best translation of any they have seen. What this app needs is a google translate type interface where I can press a microphone button for one language and the person I am talking with can do the same for their response making the conversation fluid… or better yet have a conversational component like some translators where the app just knows how to interpret the language of whomever is speaking and auto translates to a default language target the user can choose. Now I know this application is intended to learn languages instead of translate, but in a pinch sometimes conversations need instant translation because users may not know the words, sentences or pronunciation and so a feature like this everyone says would be useful; especially because the ai tutors voices are on par with the actual languages offered so it’s easy for them to understand. Whereas Google Translate and others are harder because they are so computerized. I give this application a 10/10. As someone who does business in Italy and speaks a weird variation of English and Italian (like Spanglish) this application helps bridge the gap as well as teaches me on my off time!! Great job!!.Version: 4.21.0

Duolingo Who? Great News for PolyglotsI don’t normally write reviews for apps, especially when they’re good, (because developers get cocky and then implement more paywalls, I hope that’s not the case here.) But this app? The free version works just wonders if you’re okay with an AI that gets its languages and accents confused (it’s a fun exercise for my brain to improve my Spanish from a thick french-accented AI, haha). This app is amazing for those who understand that practice and application of the targeted language is a more effective way to learn a language as opposed to memorizing syntax, grammar rules, and irrelevant vocabulary. This app allows me to personalize my experience while navigating a language. As a native English speaker, a Latina, this app will single handedly de-“no sabo” kid me. As someone who could previously not speak French, only read it, now I am speaking. I can’t wait until Portuguese is added. I absolutely can not wait. I anticipate accelerating to a level C1 of Spanish, Portuguese, and French through this app. This app is great news for polyglots and those aspiring to be polyglots..Version: 3.27.12

A good app but doesn’t look like the screenshotsI’m enjoying using Praktika. I like that there are structured lessons making me feel like I’m in a classroom but getting all the 1:1 speaking practice I need. However, I’m frustrated by discrepancies in the advertising vs what actually appears in the app. For example, the Progress screen doesn’t tell me how much time I’ve spent learning today. The description in the App Store says one of the tutors is “Valentina,” a Mexican Spanish tutor. But she doesn’t appear as a choice in the app. Also, the quality of the tutors’ voices vary greatly. I understand that the free tutors sound computerized, but even the paid ones have huge differences in quality—Camila has a very clear voice, but Lucia’s voice sounds scratchy and like she’s talking too close to the microphone. There are also several tutors available in Spanish that I refuse to use because they pronounce R’s noticeably hard—it comes across as learning Spanish from a tutor whose native language is not Spanish. I wish there was a way to hide the transcription without going full-on video call mode. Also, Lucia’s graphics are distractingly fake. No matter which tutor I’ve tried, their lips do not sync well with the speech. Unfortunately, the avatar tutors come across as gimmicky, as much as I love the concept and want to love the app. The discrepancies in the app vs advertising are enough to make me question if there was an app update I missed, but I refreshed the App Store and it says I’m all up to date. I can only wonder if the app looks really different based on what language you’re learning, and if maybe they’ve put their efforts toward the English course but not as much toward Spanish?.Version: 3.50.0

Don’t let people talkWhen you told me to hold down the microphone, I held down the microphone to speak and suddenly it spoke for me. I was trying to say something when you asked me would you like yoga or conceal or whatever you said I was trying to say yoga and you didn’t let me say yoga so therefore, I really want to download I mean un download this game. I’m really gonna delete this game because I was not trying to say that I was trying to say nothing like that. I was trying to say yoga before that when I tried to when you asked me something about whatever you said, I was trying to say something and I did it again that’s when you talked about yoga whatever and I was trying to say yoga and it didn’t let me talk so I’m not gonna do this no more please just let me talk!!!!!!.Version: 4.13.0

Update: Much Better Now!Its been a few months since I first tried it, but they have definitely made progress with the app. I hadn’t opened it in awhile but thought maybe I’d give it another whirl. This time I found a tutor that I like with an accent that works well with the language I’m studying. And no weird stuttering or locking up. I think I’ll stick around this time and add a couple stars back as well. Original Review: I tried it for a few days and it certainly has potential but some of the German pronunciation is just plain wrong and it was kind of glitchy and would get stuck in the middle of sentences and make weird noises. Keep working at it Praktica. You’ll get there eventually..Version: 4.18.0

Not a good starting pointI downloaded this and did the week long trial. I’m working one on one with a tutor, but wanted this to supplement. Unfortunately, if you don’t already have the skills to respond in conversation, I don’t think this app is helpful for you. The AI reads out paragraphs (in the language you’re learning) and you are prompted to reply. It does give you an option to generate a response in that language, but this style of learning doesn’t work for me, I’m not retaining any of the information, I’m just reading off the screen. You would need a considerable foundation in the language and ability to know HOW to respond, but not be perfect at it, for this app to really help, in my opinion. I think this would be great for people who already understand the language but haven’t spoken it in years to become more fluent. Definitely not for beginners..Version: 4.2.0

Conversations/dialogues for Senior CitizensI really like this App. But it doesn't have roles for seniors. I still deciding whether to purchase the subscription or not. I wish they would include maybe Biblical discussions with the AI Tutor. Nothing deep - such as a little reading from the Book of Psalms to discuss, or stories in The Bible, for those of us who are retired. Of course, I have downloaded Spanish Bibles, but to be able to discuss it a little with an AI Tutor. Also, most seniors get their SS Retirement in the middle of the month. We are on a fixed income and generally cannot make purchases until then. I really like it and may get it in the middle of next month. Njs.Version: 3.37.0

RomanizationI’ve been using this app for about a month and already feel much more comfortable speaking in Korean. I’ve been learning for over 3 years but didn’t have much speaking practice. It’s great that you can ask for the examples in Korean characters for the lesson, however the examples of “what you can say” when you tap the lightbulb are all in romanization. I never learned how to read romanization so this is actually slowing my learning down. I wish there was an option to pick how you would prefer the examples. Also the voice recognition isn’t always the best. I get the answer right but the translator picks up something totally different at times. Overall I’m really enjoying the app!.Version: 3.44.0

This app is NOT freeI never write reviews on apps. but i wanted to write one for this one. I downloaded the app to help me learn Spanish to better communicate with my boyfriend’s family and I got through the introductory section to find out what level I am and then immediately after it asked me to pay $8.99 a month in order to continue. After reading the reviews before I thought this app was going to be free and fun to use. but after trying it for myself and immediately being shown the price of the app I didn’t want to use it anymore. even though the introductory session was in fact, easy to use after getting to the trial and price screen, it would not let me continue using the app unless I agree to a free trial..Version: 3.31.1

Great app, though still needs workHonestly I look forward to practicing with this app when I have time each day, because it helps to take away the nerves of making a mistake when speaking with people in real life. However, the voice recognition is not perfect, but that is to be expected with A.I. My main issue is that it is next to impossible to switch between languages in one sitting. Typically I’ll practice two languages per night, but even when I change the language, it just changes the tutor’s face and voice, and continues in whatever language you started with. Such a minor inconvenience for an otherwise fantastic app..Version: 3.32.3

Incredibly helpfulThis app is very promising and it gets me speaking which I desperately need. It’s nice to speak to AI when you’re a beginner because there’s enough pressure to perform that it’s a challenge, but not as much pressure as with another human. One request: the AI talks A LOT. it’s like 80% AI talking and 20% me getting a chance to answer. I find in 15 minutes I don’t speak very much, and I’d like to spend my time in the app talking as I get listening comprehension in the other apps, this one should be lots and lots of on-the-spot speaking. Otherwise it’s a great app with lots of potential and is in my daily language learning toolkit..Version: 3.38.0

Not happyI downloaded this to see if it works for me. I looked around briefly and decided not to use it. Forgot it was downloaded on my phone. When I launched and checked it almost a year later I somehow got rolled into a yearly subscription unwillingly. Although I requested a refund the same day or the next my request for refund has been denied. A $100 charge for something I will not use is basically a scam. I don’t care how good your app might be but if you’re taking people’s hard earned money when they don’t use your services you are basically in the scam category for me..Version: 4.4.0

Helpful, but the lesson names…Ever since I’ve started to use this app on my iPhone, while I feel it is helping me with my Japanese, the app behaves strangely when it comes to certain features. This may be hard to explain but I’ll do my best. The interface and lesson names are all in the language that I am trying to learn, making it difficult to read. It would be so much better if the interface and the names of the lessons were displayed in my native language instead (English). Is there a way to fix this? I’ve been looking for a way but I’ve had no luck other than setting the language I’m trying to learn to English. Then I set the language back to Japanese and the lesson names are back to Japanese..Version: 3.52.0

I love this app!I've been using for awhile and since my biggest weakness/area in need of practice is hablando, ¡ha sido mucho beneficio para mis necesidades personales! ahora lo uso principalmente para toda mi práctica. por favor, ¡nunca te deshagas de Henry! el es mi tutor favorito y se parece mucho a Henry Jekyll aunque yo sé que se supone que es Harry Potter jajajaja. 😆 and please don't add anymore paywalls. i promise i will pay for the premium once i have the money for it, but this free version has been just as helpful so far, don't take it away from me! 😢 or i might have to go back to... duolingo 😰😨😨 hheheheheh i would recommend this app to anyone wanting to learn a language, especially once you've mastered the basics and need practice..Version: 3.30.2

I like this appThis app makes learning English so much easier and more fun! The AI tutors (you can choose them) are amazing — it feels like I’m practicing with a real teacher, and I can get feedback anytime. I like how the lessons are short and clear, so I can study even when I don’t have much time. It has really helped me improve my speaking and vocabulary. The only thing I’d add is a feature to save new words to my own dictionary. Super easy to use, and I actually enjoy studying every day. Definitely recommend it to anyone looking for daily English speaking practice!.Version: 3.39.0

Not badIt’s good that the app has a free version to explore it before buying. I use it now. I have 10 minutes a day to practice for free. It is enough for one lesson. Trying it for first time I thought I should pay for complete version, but after today’s lesson I am not sure about this. The lesson was about the ordering the words in the sentence. And first two exercises had wrong words order as it should be to let me order them right. But all other exercises have right words order already, so I should only read them without thinking about how to order them. So now I doubt about usefulness of the complete version. If it has the same issue, it is not worth to buy it..Version: 3.8.0

IncredibleI never write reviews but I had to. It truly has changed the game for me. Duolingo is absolutely c tier compared to this. What I will give Duolingo is I like learning vocab with them but never could I have a real conversation past what repeated things I heard on Duolingo. But this app put it to use and radically changed how I speak. Ich lerne deutsch. I used to try and talk to people who speak German and absolutely bomb it but now I genuinely can. I truly think if you’re serious about wanting to learn a language, this will change the game for you too.Version: 3.51.0

Really good but missing a few thingsLet’s start with the good. I love the AI on this the conversation are great a the give awesome explanation. Also I love how they really try to get to know about you so the conversation is more natural. The lessons are short and to the point . Area of improvement, maybe the app can add these features. The first feature that would be amazing is an items I mark in the dictionary turn into flash cards I can quiz myself on. For the Japanese I think it be great to have a learning path just for the writing system. Truthfully this app is amazing so far only minor improvements are needed.Version: 4.7.0

Hope the French option will be launched up soon.I tried this app after being introduced to it by a friend. First, the personalised course is good, although there is no C1C2 level course; many users need advanced courses. Free talk trial process: although I know that the AI needs to be tuned, its real-time feedback and correcting ability is not as good as expected, far worse than ChatGPT, so I don't understand why ChatGPT drives this app, but the results are not as good as ChatGPT. Real-time correction and feedback matter most for language learners. Hope the app will improve, and I look forward to seeing the French version..Version: 3.24.2

The app that’s actually worth it!My boyfriend is a native Spanish speaker, and I have been trying to learn so I can speak with him and his family better. I have seen a lot of apps like this that usually underperform and are overpriced. This one is a very reasonable price and does an excellent job. I had him check the instruction, correction, and feedback the AI gave me in conversation and he was impressed at how good it was. I like Duolingo but this is the missing gap in my learning. Absolutely worth it for Spanish!.Version: 4.14.0

TrackingApp works great most of the time. I would like to see a choice of accents associated with each language. Great option for those who don’t have the time or energy to track down a live partner. Contextual, practical lesson that prepare you for real world interactions is a plus. Sometimes lessons can be the same as the previous block instead of progressing, even with nuances. The inaccurate daily practice counter is my big beef. Sometimes it won’t register you practice, usually associate with an update day and you start your streak all over again..Version: 4.13.0

Human review if u need itTip to get the best out of the app: ask them to speak solely in your targeted language, so you can translate. Pretty soon, you’ll notice patterns and pick up vocab pretty easily (I say this as I’m learning both Spanish and French, so if you’re doing another language, it may not be as practical.) I like the app, I think it should offer more interactive and engaging features, like flash cards or smth but as it is, it’s pretty good and it helps you to get over the hump of having to speak to another person when you’re on a A1 or A2 level..Version: 4.12.0

It’s ok I guessIt’s a good app, but you have to pay for most things that most people would want. Like doing a lesson in English If you speak English for example if you wanted to learn Japanese, but you don’t know Japanese well enough to be able to read it then you would want the AI to speak English and tell you the phrases in Japanese that way right? but on here you have to pay for it to speak English. There is an English translation, but it only goes so far and you have to pay after a certain time. Which I think is kind of annoying and I wish that we could choose the AI we want..Version: 3.30.1

I enjoy this appI’m giving this a good review because usually I have a hard time sticking to apps but since it uses AI it’s able to correct you and actually show you how to pronounce thanks it’s like a little virtual lesson. It allows you to also like ask questions and I think that’s very cool.. I’ve used many language apps, but this is definitely one of my favorite. I definitely think you should invest a little bit of money into it..Version: 3.42.0

6 out of tenThe AI being used here is pretty smart on its own, but the app is still very raw. I've spent about two weeks doing lessons, yet the app doesn't save my progress. Another issue is that it doesn't matter what label a lesson has. It seems like the AI always follows its own random plan for your learning process, so the topic is always unpredictable. Therefore, the learning plan doesn't work. Crashes down when minimised. Nonetheless, it is still good for practicing your skills. Even if the app doesn't offer you a structured plan of exercises, you can always ask the AI about any topic you are interested in.Version: 3.6.1

IMPORTANT QUIRKS - ATTENTION NEEDEDI’m glad there’s finally a way to have actual conversations but it’s so weird how it automatically teaches in your native language, but it’s a different voice then what you choose. I chose a specific Korean voice, but she sounds Filipino when she speaks English and I don’t even want her to speak English. Also there has got to be a way to turn off romanization. I want responses to be in the writing system of the language i’m learning. i shouldn’t have to say that every time. The biggest problem with that is that the voice with the Filipino accent isn’t even pronouncing the Romanized Korean words properly. It doesn’t sound like Korean at all. This is not good for beginner learners. I’m only able to point this out because I’ve been learning Korean for years. I just wanted to get a feel for the app and what their modules were like. The speech recognition is not that good. I would speak clearly in the language, but then it would just say I’m speaking in a foreign language. or other times I would say something accurately in the language i’m learning, and it would oddly translate it into English as if I said it in English instead. The input is so wonky, it does its own thing. Also the screen keeps flickering and freezing. I keep having to closing the app. I do like that there is freedom with the AI. I’m trying to get through lessons in a level that I think I’ve outgrown, but I’m doing it just to recap and solidify all of my knowledge. I can simply tell it to end the lesson and it does and I can go to the next level. you should be able to skip lessons without the app automatically, jumping you to the beginning. it’s forcing you to do things in order. The lessons are literally so short that they almost kind of lack a lot of substance but at the same time I think it’s kinda like baby steps. It should be a bit more helpful for beginners and it should keep their attention. The Romanization and the English version of Korean words is absolutely not helpful and it’s actually more confusing..Version: 3.31.2

Good but only until B2 levelThe app is great overall. But I felt pretty much harassed then the AI told me I have B2 level. Than I realized it gives that level to everyone since there is no C1 or C2 level practice. Overall, there is huge gap on the market for advanced learners of English. All the apps/books/programs are intended for beginners or intermediary. Also, it’s annoying to have to press the “microphone” button all the time. I saw a developer response stating that there is a hands-free mode available, but I couldn’t find such a setting.Version: 3.22.1

Love it!Praktika is an impressive and engaging language-learning app that makes practice feel natural and fun. The AI conversation partners are surprisingly lifelike, offering real-time feedback that helps improve pronunciation and confidence. The app’s interactive scenarios and personalized lessons keep learning fresh and relevant. It’s perfect for anyone wanting to build fluency through authentic, everyday conversations. Highly recommended for consistent progress and motivation!.Version: 3.47.0

It’s fun but quite flawed1. The ai is off. It mistranslates what’s being said which can make answering questions hard especially for new learners. It sometimes looks like Google translate translated some questions and statements 2. Worse it “mishears” what you say in any language and sometimes doesn’t even register that you spoke even when holding the press to speak. 3. There’s a big focus on speaking and not enough on written for the languages that don’t use a Roman based writing system 4. It says you can save words to vocabulary but that option never existed for me. I could copy and paste elsewhere but no option to save vocab and pasting to a vocab list also wasn’t an option. Otherwise the app can be fun it just needs improvements to be a feasible learning option. Though you could use it to supplement people for practice while using another app for technical learning.Version: 3.33.0

Not perfect but pretty fantasticThe missing ingredient in my French study was speaking. I don’t feel ready to join an online chat group and private tutors are really expensive. I’ve been using Praktika almost daily for 3 months and I’ve definitely improved. The AI tutors sometimes have glitches but overall this is an incredible resource and it will only get better as AI progresses..Version: 3.46.0

Very good, but…I’m really enjoying the app and it makes for a great supplement to my lessons with my online tutors. There is one quirk with the avatar that I find irritating. In Italian, when you want to say, “I have,” you use the word “ho.” But you don’t pronounce the “h.” However, my avatar consistently DOES pronounce it. The other aspect that I find frustrating is that the lessons seem geared for a lower level of knowledge than I actually have. As a result, I don’t find the lessons, particularly challenging..Version: 4.7.0

Great supplement to learning Spanish!I’m really impressed with this app. It allows me to be interactive and ask questions as I’m learning just like I would do with a tutor or in a classroom. There are some small glitches, but they don’t happen very often. All in all I’m very happy with this product. It has really helped me accelerate my Spanish learning and supplement what I’m doing in my classroom and textbooks..Version: 4.11.0

Amazing appAmazing app but it has some flaws. They need to add more languages! If there is it would be 5..Version: 4.18.0

Needs a lot of workThis feels like a beta version. It’s a shame they have spent so much money on marketing when the product is not complete. I think with another year of full-time work the app could be really great, and I love what they’re trying to do, but there are way too many bugs and flaws to list. If it was a free app that would be one thing, but with what they are charging with its many flaws, to me it is not worth it at this point..Version: 4.16.0

Finally happy!I’m only a few lessons in. The good: I can review a lesson as many times as I want and the explanations are quite good for me as a beginner. I’m finally feeling like I understand singular and plural in sentences. The Meh: it doesn’t seem to matter how many different ways I say ella (or anything with double ll’s) the app dictates something else. I finally I just started typing it in. The direct lessons from the avatar have correct pronunciation, but when you go off script the word ends up sounding like an English word not Spanish. It’s not enough to make me stop though..Version: 4.9.0

Best language learning appBy far the best. It helps to be creative during the lessons and ask exactly what you want to focus on as it remembers everything. It can even create personalized lessons from materials you come across, such as random images from social media..Version: 4.7.0

Appp is greatDefinitely one of the greatest app I’ve ever had to help me learn Portuguese, but I have some feedback on the AI. I was speaking to the free one and its speech was kind of slowed and it was on normal. I also sped it up but half the time it was making some weird demonic noises which was kind of creepy definitely not normal. But besides that everything’s great definitely something that I couldn’t ignore but if you’re able to fix that, that would be nice..Version: 4.6.1

Can’t help with pronunciationI like this app, it seems very easy to try but there are a few hiccups while I tried. The app is text based despite it can speak but it cannot listen to u so it cannot correct your pronunciation. I think that’s a big part of learning a new language and it’s a shame it cannot do that. Second, the ai will say something as if on a script but it will stop only after asking all its questions rather than say the phrase and let u learn the pronunciation. The best thing to do is for the ai to say it, then u say it, it listens and corrects any pronunciation and repeat it a few times. This is how one would naturally learn with a tutor since it creates memories and when one gets the pronunciation correct, it would create a feeling of accomplishment and thus committing it further to memory. But this app misses that. ChatGPT does a better job at teaching and feedback currently than this app.Version: 4.6.1
