Great app but doesn’t complete support the keyboardI really this app, as I have learned a lot of japanese with it. It really forces you learn before you can progress. The recent update seems to want to force you to use the flick keyboard which is fine for some people but I don’t like it. I wish there was an option to disable it. Also it would be nice if there was full keyboard support, as the game still requires you to touch the screen or use a game controller to advance to the next screen when learning, smart test or doing the boss fights. You can’t even select the smart test without touching the screen or using a controller. Maybe use arrow keys to select the menu items or let me use the virtual mouse from the keyboard. edit: Thank you for responding. Creating a virtual mouse for the keyboard is an option, but not really the best option. I hope that one day I can play the game completely from a keyboard without having to use a game pad or a virtual mouse. Just do itThis is one of the first Japanese learning games that I find myself actually WANTING to stay with. The learning aspect feels very smooth, and I adore the fact that it doesn’t bring in romanji as its starting learner of the Japanese alphabet/vocab like so many other apps do, and instead balances moving in Japanese as you progress through the game and lessons the amount of English that is used in conversation. That I feel like is truly learning by immersing yourself into the language. It’s a cute game that has a feeling almost similar to Pokémon where you battle by learning more Japanese, collect Kanji in your Kanjidex, and travel all across the lands of Japan. It’s really neat that it makes itself unique by having the world exploration mimicking the actual locations of Japan through the game play and allows its players to take note of those real locations and maybe even pique further curiosity and excitement into wanting to travel to Japan to visit those exact locations. By far the best way to learnTHEY MUST MAKE THIS TYPE OF GAME FOR ALL LANGUAGES! I have been studying Japanese for 6 months everyday. I wish I just started with this… this is by far more interesting and challenging than other apps. I have tried everything trust me. I have spent $500+ on apps and books… I’ve been looking for something like this to incorporate in my learning, but I wish I started this in the beginning. One of the hardest things for me to learn is not the vocabulary but the sentence structures and particles. English speaking people should start with it and this game does that! New breakthrough in learningI think these developers clearly know what they are doing. The system they have in place for learning a very difficult language challenges you that traditional testing and online AI apps usually don’t, it offers opportunity for slight immersion learning while having key aspects of memory retention tied to game progression. This effectively induces a tighter memory as you need to know what you remember to efficiently get through the game. The psychology of this tricks your brain to remember things faster as it sees it as a necessity to get a task done, the dopamine is insane when you start to play this game, definitely a top tool when it comes to learning Japanese efficiently. If I could have donated all the money I spent on migaku and other tools into this app for more immersion and lessons I would. Please continue to develop this app for higher difficult Japanese lessons, or make other spin off games/DLC about Japan that we can pay for so we can continue to support you) that focus on learning Japanese for a deeper content learning/immersion. Making other language games in this style would also be appreciated, but I truly believe you have found your niche with Japanese language and to keep the quality of this game consistent it would be best to keep resources to this project for a while longer. Great App, Best way to learn Japanese by farWhen I started this app I had tried learning Japanese on my own, but struggled really hard to learn any grammar as I had no one to practice with. This app fixed that for me completely. Now instead of feeling like I’m just learning so many words and not knowing how to use them. I’m having full conversations with the people in game. I’m listening to their conversations and understanding them! Over the app does a great job at being very educational, using context to learn, but also extremely fun as well. Sometimes I want to just keep playing because I’m having so much fun but I have to force myself to stop so that I can actually soak in what I learned. EVERYTHING IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR!!! 🤩💕If you’ve struggled keeping motivated starting out due to dry textbooks or textbook style apps stop reading here and either buy this app or download the demo! Wagotabi is a very fun game that’s easy to pick up for a few minutes or sink an hour into. You’ll learn how to form sentences before your quest begins. The vocabulary builds quickly and is used as soon as it’s taught. With some NPCs who only speak Japanese and will never speak to you in your native language but the app teaches you the vocabulary before speaking with them so it becomes instant immersion. A simple but useful feature that I didn’t expect to see but am so happy to have is the vocabulary and progress reporting and exports. Currently the app shows a pie chart with known and unknown vocabulary count as well as a line chart for mastery progress. The export is a csv text email - hopefully we could get some extra functionality here in the future but honestly it’s good enough I’d rather the dev team keep up the fantastic work and adding more content towards N5. Perhaps a quick solution would be the option to download a csv text file rather than in an email body - but I could just as easily write a shortcut for this. Development is very active with great responses on the discord server if any issues come up (accessible through the apps settings page). Thank you dev team! Great learning tool for JapaneseI really, really enjoyed this game in order to facilitate my learning of the Japanese language. Instead of the usual read off a textbook and memorize, this game kept me very engaged and truly helped me with reading and listening to the Japanese language. Actually makes you retain what you learnedI was going to wait longer to write this review, but I got too excited when after just playing two times this game, I was able to distinguish and read some hiragana and kanji characters in an instructional booklet that came with an item. I need to say that what I love most about this game is the repetition of recently learned hiragana and words. A lot of japanese learning apps just present to you a new concept and rarely bring it up again. How are you even supposed to learn like that? But also, I LOOOVE the realistic scenarios in which you learn to form sentences. Not only that, but you actually want to go back to this game, it doesn’t feel like a chore, it’s actually fun. I’m using Wagotabi, at the same time I’m using Renshu, and it’s a great way to reinforce the content, but also I’ve found both apps complement each other really well, they teach differently but also fill in the gaps for one another. Best Gamified Language AppI’ve tried many gamified learning apps over the years and they all fall short. Most seem to optimize for the wrong things, leading to a poor learning experience. This game found the rare intersection between a fun game and a legitimate teaching program. I can tell that the developers have taken their time and not compromised when developing this game. It is really well done and has been a great aid in my Japanese learning. Of course, no app alone will teach you a language, but Wagotabi does a more comprehensive job than anything else I’ve seen. Thoughtfully MadeI rarely leave reviews, but I really wanted to support these devs. I’ve been off and on learning Japanese for years now through so many methods because I want to connect with family over there, but as someone who knows hiragana and katakana, the beginning stages of most lesson methods felt so slow! Incredible!I use various Japanese language learning apps depending on what I need to study. I had downloaded this a while back and forgot about it for many months. I came back and started playing it tonight and not only is it addictive it is also effective. Amazing appThis has been a great way to learn Japanese and 100% worth the five dollars. Absolutely incredible!I’m in love with this game and wish there were more like it. It’s not just a game-ified learning game; it’s made with so much more intention than that. Fantastic resourceI absolutely adore this app. It makes learning Japanese fun, motivational, and simple. You get immersed in the story, and you slowly learn more about vocabulary, grammar and Japan itself. The quests are fun, and you even have a rival. Best Kanji Vocabulary BuilderI’ve been learning Japanese for years now. Learning Hiragana and Katakana was easy. But transitioning into vocabulary and Kanji has been… daunting. Lack of explanation and too difficultI could just be too dumb, but I felt like I was picking up quickly on everything until very early in the game when the immigration officer asks to see your suitcase. For me, I don’t understand what half of the questions are asking for or they’re written in Japanese which I obviously don’t understand yet. IncredibleThis game is so much fun. I used to learn some Japanese before my trip to Japan and it help tremendously. I was able to understand basic things and read signs, and interaction with locals was so much better once when I used Japanese to greet them! The best Japanese gameI used Duolingo and Rosetta Stone to study Japanese and whilst both were really good, this game lets you immerse yourself in virtual Japan.
