Gin Rummy Classic+ Positive Reviews

Doesn’t CheatI have no idea what those other reviewers are talking about. I can’t detect any sort of cheating or favoritism with randomness in this game. The computer plays a good game but can still be bested. The game is fun, but I think I have more fun with their other games, namely Spades and Hearts. Worth checking out!.Version: 1.0.3

I don’t see the cheating, but…It’s an OK game. I don’t see the cheating people claim. Yes, the computer gets some quick knocks from time to time, but so do I. I’ve been playing a while and am at Master I level. The computer plays a tight, defensive strategy that can be tough to beat until you learn how (and *when*) to beat it, but it can be done once you learn how. (People claiming to never get the cards they need may be speculating too much or not know how to beat this strategy. I’m winning more than losing at my current level, and I’m not a card player. Gin Rummy and Euchre are the only games I don’t embarrass myself playing.) My biggest complaints are the boring strategy employed by the AI (but I’m not a programmer, and that *may* be the only strategy that an engine can use to play at a high level?) and the animations that cut too early on occasion (and take too long when the do go). Also, the computer assumes the melds you want to make and won’t readjust the melds when you select a discard that breaks a meld it thinks you should. This can be confusing and is critical in late game decisions. (It also is “taking advice from the opponent”, which is never a good strategy.) Still a relatively decent game..Version: 1.0.3

Fun.My uncle who passed last year taught me how to play Gin Rummy, we used to play every time he’d come to town to visit it’s been fun to be able to play this game again as it brings me back so many pleasant memories. my only few complaints about the game is that it automatically makes melds for you and sometimes it messes up my hand completely and you can’t really adjust the melds to be like you previously had them which can be really annoying and cost you a game.. At the end of a game the post game animations and everything becomes quite annoying because it takes quite a while and you can’t really skip that stuff and i wish you could. Aside from those few things overall i have a fun time playing this game 👍🏽.Version: 1.2.6

Needs work - opponent is easy to anticipateFirst off, great game, but I can already tell I’m going to get bored of it. Here’s why: The computer opponent does not play like a real human. Unless the computer is dealt a meld with high cards, all it does is rush to discard everything high for a quick knock. Although this is a viable strategy in Gin Rummy for humans, it is not done near as often in real Gin as it is done by the algorithms that drive this particular game. So now I have to change my real world strategy to best this game, which is not hard. If I am not dealt a high card meld right off the bat, I immediately begin shedding high cards in anticipation of an opponent knock. I will literally sit with a single ace in the hole and wait for the computer to knock. I will not knock myself because I know I will get a quick 25 pts for an undercut. And the complaints of this game “cheating” are unfortunately somewhat accurate. Too often, as soon as I give up on a meld, the opponent will drop my needed card, like it knows what I was waiting for. It happens far too often to be a coincidence. Like I said, good game. I will keep playing. But it needs some tweaks..Version: 1.0.3

Good, not greatBesides the annoyance of it asking for a review everyday. This game is fun, it has good settings so you can set the game to your level of experience. Where it misses is the time waste of giving you points after every hand so you can progress up the nonsense levels. Then when you finish a game it makes you wait for an opponent, as if there’s another human there, but it’s just the computer. If you got rid of these time wasters I’d give you 5 stars, or at least make them optional. Question, is there a way to play against other people, actual humans?.Version: 1.0.3

Nice game but needs some tweaksIt’s a nice game truly but my issues are some needed options. I want to be able to turn off the tips and be able to organize my own hand. Having the cards automatically put into melds gives me no control. I get to choose a card, a discard and when to knock. This doesn’t okay true to the ever changing strategy of gin. I find that I don’t play this as often because if this. It would be really great to have these options..Version: 1.0.3

Overall okay, but too many aces always outOverall the gameplay is okay. But it seems the logic often makes similar choices, like it always runs out the high card first and hangs onto the low cards. It also will get rid of the same number that you discard. The oddest part is the occurrences of aces. I’d be hard pressed to see a single hand without at least 2 aces in play…usually it is 3 of them…sometimes all 4..Version: 1.2.4

Competitive?I've won the first 34 games I've played on the competitive level. I've been playing gin for more than 60 years and used to be very good but I'm 75, my short term memory is shot and I can no longer remember the cards. I'm really just winging it at this point. So I shouldn't win every game. I've played many computer opponents on expert level and I usually win 60 to 70% of games. So I'm not sure how competitive this AI is. Does it get better as you progress through the levels?.Version: 1.0.3

Fun game but frustratingThis is a fun game until you get to the platinum level. Once you reach that, it is practically impossible for you to win. Yes, you may win one or two rounds, but your opponent will either undercut you a lot of times or the cards you need are either at the bottom or your opponent has it so that he ends up knocking before you. It is also very rare that you will undercut your opponent..Version: 1.0.3

Not cheating, but luckyI don’t think the computer player cheats, but I do think as you level up the opponent shows improved luck rather than improved skill. I’m not a programmer, so perhaps this is the best approach with a game like this. But it does make the game more frustrating than challenging at higher levels. I agree that the computer’s strategies, while effective, get pretty boring with extended play..Version: 1.0.3

Funny RummyOverall, this is a fun game, which can surely provide hours of fun. My only complaints are lack of live, real-person competition (all computer bot challengers). Additionally, the rng nature of the “shuffled” cards are not arbitrary—the number of times that you randomly draw the same card that was just played or discarded is absurdly high. All said, this game is worth a try..Version: 1.0.3

Pretty good gameI just started playing. I like the game. Gripe: 10% or so the game skips the scoring and goes right to points so I don’t see how the game finishes. I also get frustrated that this game (as well as spades and hearts) will advance on its own. I may not be paying attention or pausing to calculate odds and the game progresses to the next screen. Otherwise, I enjoy playing all 3 games.Version: 1.0.3

Odd ScoringI have played gin rummy and different versions of rummy over the years. The main issue I have with this game is that the sets you make don’t count for anything. The only thing that counts is the deadwood pile. I had always played that you add up your sets (k=10, etc.) and subtract the ‘deadwood’ to get your score and compare that to your opponent. The computer plays against my instinct to create good sets or melds..Version: 1.0.3

Can't listen to other audioThe game is great if you play on a separate device than your music/podcast player. It constantly causes my podcast app to mute..Version: 1.2.4

Very bad AI on thisComputer always knocks. Always gets the card it needs. I’ve noticed say I need a queen of clubs I can pick up many times. Soon as I throw away the card that would make the queen of clubs work, next card is always that card. The dealing is stacked so you will lose every time. Fix the AI. This is not random. Computer always gets the card it needs. Me…. Never..Version: 1.0.3

Cards aren’t shuffledI love this game. I am a gold 1 and level 75. It’s very fun and most of the time it’s a fair and challenging. But I swear these cards are shuffled poorly. It may just be “luck” that the AI sometimes can knock or gin on the 3rd turn for all the games in the match. Not a big enough thing for me to not place but it does get annoying..Version: 1.0.3

QuestionableJust downloaded this today. I am pretty good at gin; good enough that some people won’t play with me because I win a lot. The first few games were great, but then didn’t matter what I did I couldn’t win. Cheating? I’m not sure about that. But the losing streak seemed very unreasonable and completely ruined the fun. Not sure what is up with this game..Version: 1.0.3

Noticeable differences in Competitive modeI’ve played thru several levels of Competitive mode and notice one thing. When you’re at the bottom of the pile you get NO cards that are useful at all. But when you’re at the top, you get every card you could ever dream of. I see this with every tier. Interesting..Version: 1.0.3

Excellent game, just one ad please! Please make the end of game scoring optional. I don’t care about the levels, and the repetitive 40 point animations grate after awhile..Version: 1.2.6

Too much gamificationThe game play itself is fine. What gets on my nerves is the obsessive concentration on levels and goals. All of this just gets in my way. I’d like to play a hand and get the score and then go on to the next hand. Honestly I don’t care where I rank, I just want to play the game.Version: 1.2.4

This game has challenges and is good for my mental healthI am in a hospital with a broken back and stuck in my bed but playing Rummy is a good way to stimulate my mind.Version: 1.2.6

Tier after diamond is MasterTo save time for anyone who is wondering what level comes after diamond, it's master. I spent a lot of time with playing to get the thousand points needed to find out..Version: 1.0.3

GameThis has been the most entertaining game I have found yet Thank you for waking up my mind on these cold morning. Thanks again Grace Mason.Version: 1.2.4

Could play for hoursIt’s so much fun, a tad mindless though, nothing beats playing with real cards and having to do all the arithmetic yourself..Version: 1.0.3

Excellent Fun and PlayAs a fairly good player, this game is challenging and as realistic as possible. It’s just another indication of how far AI has taken us..Version: 1.2.4

Great gameFor those who like Gin Rummy, this is a great game. I had never played original Gin Rummy before, and so I hadn’t ever heard the terms used nor played with knocks. I enjoy this game..Version: 1.2.4

Just the game, no addsLove it. No adds or pop ups. Simple cards just like an old desktop.Version: 1.2.7

HelloYes :).Version: 1.2.4

AwesomeBest game ever 😀😀😀😀😀😀.Version: 1.2.6

FixedFun game. It now feels like my losses are a result of my bad choices. Makes the wins even better.Version: 1.2.4

A lot of funA lot of fun.Version: 1.2.4

FastGood quick game..Version: 1.0.3

This can easily be your go-to time-waster game.Rules are easy to learn. I’ve never played Gin Rummy before, but after a few minutes, you’ll get the hang of it. Its a good luck/intuition based game and its fun to see big swings that can happen in any round. It could improve by having local/online multiplayer however. Also, it’d be nice to get more themes than the standard solid colors..Version: 1.0.3

No chance cards are drawn randomlyVery poor game AI. A big win seems to always be followed by a big loss. Frustrating to play when it is clear that the deck will be stacked against you, literally, and card draws are biased..Version: 1.0.3

FixedI like playing but when I got to the platinum level it becomes impossible to win. The only way that can be accomplished is by manipulating the deck..Version: 1.0.3
