Love gameI really enjoy this app. I’ve played enough against the computer that I’m able to win about 75% on average. I have a few minor complaints. It is more common than straight probability that when a robber is placed on a space that number comes up quite frequently. I’ve also noticed this happening right after the robber is removed. Notes for players: early in the game the other players almost never play the robber on you but the game makes up for it later in the game. The computer always knows how many resources are out there so monopoly cards are never wasted by them. Solution is don’t hold too many resources, especially just one kind. If you get a lead they will gang up on you. They do it to each other as well, maybe a bit less. A big advantage can be gained by negotiating during trading to get the maximum number of resources gained. Two for one ports are more valuable than three for one ports especially if you had the foresight to pick spaces that produce those resources. 5 stars minus bugsI would absolutely rate this app 5 stars it’s so good. There is 1 bug on online games that bothers me enough and happens enough to be very annoying and happen very often so brings my review to 3. It’s SO annoying when it happens. Also super fixable i think so I’m hoping this review can help patch the bug, make it better. If you are in the game and it crashes or if an opponent crashes, it sometimes is not a big deal. Everyone loads back in to a screen that says “match recovered” And if everyone selects yes to reconnect, you just reload in and continue where you left off. Awesome. Sometimes one person doesn’t reconnect and or leaves for whatever reason maybe on accident / unable to or maybe on purpose if they have a bad start for example. Well if they don’t load in, the remaining players just sit at that screen and can’t load in to finish the game, don’t even know if the player that is gone is going to reconnect or if they left. And there isn’t anyway for the remaining players to remove that person even if they’ve waited on that reconnecting screen for that person to come back. So eventually, you just get tired of waiting and players will leave and can’t finish their game. Pretty good I thinkI read a lot of reviews saying this game cheats, I don’t think it does. Sure, it seems like a 7 is rolled right after I pull my 8th card, and right after someone drops the robber on my tile that has 3 cities on it that number gets rolled twice, but that happens in the real game, so, there. The cpu is actually a pretty good player, Catan is a complex game so the fact that it can win is impressive. I do miss the negotiation portion that happens in trading between real people. Being able to talk someone into a 1 ore for 2 wool trade because they have a port and can trade my crappy wool for something they need is satisfying to me. To the cpu... No, I won’t trade ore for wool 3/4 of the way through the game. No, I won’t trade you what you want after you drop the robber on me. No, I don’t want my own stuff traded back to me after a Monopoly card is played. But admittedly I will trade wool for ore when offered 3/4 of the way through the game, hey, I’m opportunistic and you’d do it too. All in all I enjoy this game. I think if you are saying the game cheats you aren’t as good at the game as you think you are. Of course the game is out to get you! But it does the same things my friends do when we play. If your in the lead, they gang up on you, they won’t trade with you & they block you. It’s called strategy! It wouldn’t be fun if you always won and that is the fun of Catan, you can have two 8 tiles and never have an 8 roll the entire game. You can win with two wool tiles and a sheep port. You can lose horribly with the two best spots in the game. You can win even if you get blocked in by the longest road by buying Development cards. There are a lot of rotating and flexible strategies to this game and the fact that the cpu can figure this out and isn’t the Deep Blue chess computer is impressive, props to the programmers..Billdunham3Version: 4.7.2

Fun Game, Unfair A.I.Great base game, but the programmers have not taken the time to implement proper A.I. Instead of the computer using strategy and cunning, it will manipulate the outcome so the robber is constantly thrown against you, rolls on your settlements are then thrown while robber occupied. As well, even when using the Stack dice roll option, if the computer can’t outthink you, it will devolve into ignoring the Stack rule and give your numbers less roll chance (I have screenshots proving this). Lastly, and the most obvious and annoying cheap tactic is that when playing against three A.I. opponents, one of them always seems to relegated itself as the sacrificial lamb in order to trade whatever the other two A.I. players need at any given time. Again, the base game is great, the different modes are super fun, but the unfair A.I. curbs the excitement. An important note- I’m not saying this out of frustration because I’m losing, I probably win 65%+ of the time, but I want to win against an A.I. with more fine-tuned programming. Faithful Recreation for MobileThere’s not much to say, if you like the game, you’ll likely enjoy the app as it is faithful to the original game. I’ve played 100’s of games and can tell you the dice roll randomly (though you will still lose some games due to them not always following the bell curve), and there’s nothing to back up the game being rigged besides some users feeling cheated that a game had an unusual number of 12’s or 3’s. You can even check the stats at the end of the game to see what numbers were rolled most often. It’s main fault comes with the AI. The computer players have limited intelligence and will allow you to always fish for a better trade deal or build towards a spot you’ll obviously head them off on. This makes it easier to win, but they are still competitive enough to win if the dice don’t fall your way. Lastly, the game will occasionally start to crash by not displaying some pop-ups. This is easily solved by backing out of the game and re-entering, but that should ideally Not be needed. Only bug I’ve found..SkippyyoVersion: 4.7.2

Decent but AI is blatantly aimed against youI loved the board game and truly excited and have enjoyed the creation of this app; however, the Artificial Intelligence is clearly calculated against you and to an unrealistic degree. I know the roll of the die are left up to “chance,” but your number gets rolled repeatedly once the robber has been placed on that number. Once you are ahead and nearing victory, you will get hit with an onslaught of knight cards, robber rolls, monopoly cards and 12+ rolls with not a single one of your numbers coming up in order to keep you at bay. You could offer the same trade to an AI player that they just offered you and they reject it, to only re-offer it on their subsequent turn. I don’t want a game where human intellect can easily outthink a simple cyclical algorithm from the Computer, and I genuinely appreciate the cunningness of the AI thwarting you in strategic ways. But, I have often just quit a game when it becomes a relentless calculated attack. I wish the creators could make the adjustment to receive the 5 stars this app otherwise warrants..80NESVersion: 4.7.5

Pretty good implementationOverall, this is a good implementation of the board game. There is nothing that can replace the drama of the real board game, but this app is fun, attractive, and mostly true to the physical version. There are 10 AI characters with different playing styles and skill levels, so players of different skill can choose varying levels of competition. Programming strategic AIs has its limits, however, when coming to subtle decision-making and special situations. Even the smartest AIs cannot match a seasoned Catan player in skill and strategy. The AIs tend to rely heavily on development cards. It is common for them to get 6, 7 or even 10 devs, making it difficult to compete for largest army. I’ve seen them win with 3 or 4 victory point cards. However, this is often detrimental to their expansion and ability to build new settlements. The smarter AIs are better at long-term management (such as whether to focus more on expansion, cities, or development cards) but are still prone to tactical blunders such as not trading with the bank when they could have or squandering resources that could have been saved for new settlements. The dice do tend to favor the AI when I’m in the lead. I’ve experienced the torrents of 7s and knights other reviews have described. But experience has taught me efficient resource management and investment in good settlement spots and ports, strategic aspects the AIs often lack. I therefore win more than half of the time. The visual presentation is very realistic, attractive and friendly. I smile when I read the AIs reaction when I rob from them. The scenarios and extensions give you a variety of games to choose from, even if you haven’t brought any of the “locked” ones. I’m still trying to figure out how Cities and Knights works, so I’d be happy if they made a more thorough tutorial. But on the whole, I’d recommend the app to anyone who wants more chances to play Catan..ÆñœñÿmœüßVersion: 4.7.2

Definitely not as bad as people sayI’ve spent the past year playing this game. I’ve read more than a few reviews about how the game is unfair or it’s impossible to win, etc and that’s not true. Sometimes the game players do make weird decisions but they each have a specific way they’re programmed to play, and just like playing with real people, you can figure out their style and use it against them. When I first started playing the game I think it was about 20 games or more before I finally won. Now? I win a good 75% of the games. So the game isn’t impossible, it just requires critical thinking and strategy planning, learning your opponents weaknesses, etc. My only complaint is that the latest update made all of the lettering insanely small. Luckily I have an iphone 8 Plus or I’d never be able to see it. So here’s hoping that gets fixed asap. Still fun, but the dice randomness could use some workI have had to develop a whole new strategy to pivot from real life strategy. The dice and subsequently the robber will almost certainly fall out of your favor after you earn a single additional victory point. The AI is hyper fueled to gain development cards and the robber is constantly working against you. If you try to acquire a dev card, it is almost never a knight card. ANYTIME you have over 7 resources someone rolls a 7. EVERYTIME. There have been games where the robber has been thrown 4-5 times in a row and then knight card are tossed around. I had 6 resources go down to zero after the robber was tossed back and forth on my hexes in tandem by AI. This would very rarely happen in real life. Unless I stole someone’s dog and the table responded John Wick style to my aggression. My strategy has been basically to clear my hand every turn. AI also never trades, ever. Have to rely soupy on ports. If you can get over the fact this doesn’t play life real life, then it does get fun. Fun game, but ruined by targeting AII genuinely love Catan and was excited to play it on the app. The gameplay itself is solid and it’s a great way to play without needing a group. However, the AI behavior seriously takes away from the experience. Any time you start doing well, the AI immediately turns on you. The robber is placed on you almost every time, and the AI players seem to constantly trade with each other in ways that conveniently give them exactly what they need. Meanwhile, you’re essentially locked out. One of the most frustrating patterns is when you have more than 7 cards and the robber is triggered. The AI will repeatedly use knight cards back-to-back, taking turns stealing from you. By the time it’s your turn again, you’ve lost everything and can’t make a move. It feels less like strategy and more like being targeted. On top of that, the AI aggressively hoards development cards. While you’re working to build roads, settlements, and cities, they’re doing all of that and stacking development cards. It’s incredibly frustrating to be 1–2 points away from winning, only for an AI player to suddenly reveal multiple victory point cards and win out of nowhere. If you lower the difficulty, this behavior isn’t as extreme, but then the game doesn’t feel competitive at all. There doesn’t seem to be a good middle ground. Great UI but too much bsI love how seamless this app is when transitioning from the board game to the app. It's so much easier than you think it would be and it is a really good use of spare time. Quite frankly, for the catan enthusiast, it's great, especially when you fork out the 12 bucks for the whole package. After playing countless games against the AI Bots in this game, my only beef is that the game clearly tries to equalize itself too much. I can't tell you how many times I've been ahead by 5 victory points only to have the game roll a ridiculous amount of 7s and other nonsensical numbers just to try to equalize things. Just got done playing a game where I was a staggering 6 victory points ahead with one to go for the win, only to have the app roll an ungodly amount of 7s, 3s, 11s, and 2s until the computer finally caught up to 'give me a run for my money'. I don’t have to pretend anymore.All the “kids” (12 year olds through 32 year olds) would sit around at family gatherings and play Catan. Us old folks (45 to 60) would pretend to know what was going on with the game. This app has made learning the game easier and it’s a lot of fun. I’ve always enjoyed turn based games that combine strategy, expansion, resource management , and cooperative elements, so Catan is a winner for me. I’d give the game a better score, but the online aspects of the game don’t seem to work.. I’m not a lost Boomer who’s unable to navigate the internet either. I’m the excel, db, computer question go to person at the place where I work. I can reset the PW 100 times, but it still says it’s wrong.. so I’ll just play against the AI for now and when I’m ready, I’ll try another App for online play. We’ll worth $5 too.. Near FlawlessThe game is amazing and true to the classic. The ease at which it plays and the pieces move is incredible. Visually, it’s great and I also love all the settings that you can change to make the game you’re own. I also think the prices are in line and had no problem forking over the money to play my favorite board game of all time. Now the reason for the star deduction. Fix the NBA Jam style AI. It’s almost laughable sometimes. It’s to the point where I can guess dice rolls. Sure, when you’re in the lead, the others will be gunning for you, so I understand, to a point, the knight jumping from your space, to your space, to your space, etc. etc. etc. (the AI always seems to have an endless supply of knight cards when you’re ahead). Very buggyI love Catan in all its forms and so I enjoy this app, but I do have some complaints. I don’t know if it’s just the current version, but I’m experiencing a lot of bugs, especially with the Grand Canal variant. The game spontaneously quits all the time, which isn’t too bad since it does save well, but it’s annoying. Weird things keep happening in Grand Canal, like the canal finishing before all hexes have been dug, accruing or losing victory points with no obvious cause (that I could see), treasure islands not generating on the proper dice rolls, and once even shifting game mode to Seafarers + C&K in the middle of the match. (The board remained Canal, but the pirate was active and knights no longer functioned as merchants or diggers) I don’t know where else to submit feedback. Please fix this! In general the dice rolls also definitely aren’t simple random number generation. As AI takes over the world, can we at least get better Catan AI opponents?My husband and I play this game in online mode with two AI players at least once a week. The AI behavior, though obviously always skewed towards one non-AI player is tolerable because we can generally overcome it by placing our settlements on overlapping resources and splitting our use of knight cards between us. This game is absolutely intolerable when playing alone against only AI players though. In one match I had an AI opponent move the robber to one (not always the same one) of my resources 8 times in a row, always taking a resource from me even if another AI was also on the space, before I gave up. Such a bummer. The most promising aspect of this app is being able to play even when there aren’t enough people around to bring out the physical game board. But the AI behaviors are totally flawed. On the other hand, we’ve tried playing with four real players and gave up after about four rounds because someone got kicked out of the game each time. Same experience with three real players and an AI player as well. All-in-all, this app is only functional if you have two real players, one or two AI players, and the real players are willing to tolerate having to employ a joint strategy just to keep the AI players from creaming you. Also, I haven’t recorded the data but it sure does *seem* like 7s are rolled more often once someone starts winning. Don't download if you love your phoneBecause you will be tempted to beat your phone with a hammer if you play this version. Yes, I've played countless games of catan with real humans and understand the drama that is catan. However, you will find that your ai opponents have a nearly unlimited supply of knight and monopoly cards and that possessing ownership of as many as 10 of the 12 numbers available in the range of possibilities may result in the other two numbers being rolled so exclusively that you go 4 rounds without receiving a single resource. You think you know how frustrating the robber can be? Just wait. In short, the programmers must have been slighted by their wages or resented the project somehow. They are quietly chuckling everyday in the knowledge that they are torturing the minds of catan faithful worldwide. To be fair, it is a beautiful interface. Holy Shizz! I beat the AII was just introduced to the board game this past week whilst on vacation, and as soon as we played our first game -- I was hooked! Decided to give the mobile game a go because I know this will be the only chance I get to get my fix of Settlers in. Read the reviews which said that the AI becomes basically impossible to beat which meant I definitely had to try it. But first, I tried the online experience -- definitely something left to be desired there. Wait time to find a lobby was long, and once I was able to join a game the group suffered connection issues and players exiting and entering the game. So yeah, first online Settlers attempt...not so great. But why wait around for some noobs to POSSIBLY play their turn, when you can get instant gratification from playing AI!? So, I scroll through the custom game set-up mode, and before you know it, I'm laying down the foundation of becoming The Lord of Catan! Lemme tell you, the game held true to the reviews I read. The computer seems to pull off these ridiculous come from behind wins; rolling an absurd amount of 7s, and rallying together to play back to back to back knight cards against you! I was determined though. Every loss was motivation to try a different approach, and what do you know....6 hours later, I finally friggin beat the AI. Yessir. Fun for what it isEveryone’s tripping out over the dumbest stuff. It’s an iPhone game calm down. If you love Catan then you’ll love this game. Of course the AI is stacked against you but you can still win and it’s fun to try out different strategies. It has Nintendo quality graphics but that’s kinda fun. It’s not some action packed game so who cares. My one and only gripe is the instability. It seems to crash often but luckily you don’t lose the game you just continue. Sometimes if you’re in the middle of a trade and it crashes that same trade won’t be available but for the most part it just picks right up where it left off. Great Game - Unfair AILike many reviews, I could spell out the flaws that make this game less fun. The board game is a blast and this one is very close to great. The only problem is the users need the company to read this feedback and to make the probabilities more fair. The dice for AI players tend to roll the live players number very frequently when the Robber is blocking that spot. The ganging up of AI players against the human is extremely evident. There are several flaws that have been mentioned throughout these reviews. I plan to keep playing but hope these can get fixed to improve the game. It could be a 5 star game I shout about front the mountaintops but for these little programming needs. How about an updated version to address some of them? Maybe even a few more AI players with varying ratings in each category. Fun, yet frustrating...I like the game Catan, yet I rarely am able to bring it to the tabletop at home. I'm lucky to play it a few times a year. So, I got the app version in order to be able to play it more frequently. It was good fun for about a month. After that it was just irritating. Why? The dice rolling generator is anything but random. The game seems to have a built-in "catch up" feature for the AI players. If I get out to a strong lead, I will get hammered by the computer with the die rolls. Seriously! There have been games where I have gone as many as four rounds without being able to do a thing because the dice have come up 7's four times in a roll, causing me to lose half my cards and then having the AI players continually placing the Thief on my hexes. Meanwhile, the dice roll 11 or 12 again and again so the hexes they control keep on producing. Ridiculous! I had to delete it from my phone or risk throwing it. Good implementation, OK AIThis is a good implementation of the classic board game. So far I’ve only played on the included base levels and haven’t seen any annoying ads or upgrade offers that plague many games these days. Thinking about other people’s comments - the included AI players do tend to buy a lot of resource cards as opposed to many human’s road/settlement focused early games, and that can take some getting used to. Also, the “friendly robber mode” setting can make it feel like you’re getting hammered by the robber if you’re the first/only player over two points early on. I often purposely avoid getting any (non-victory card) points until several of the the AI players do, focusing on roads (4 or fewer on a row) and cards - then add settlements in later so the robber is spread more evenly. Anyway, this is a pretty good implementation of the classic and well worth the price..HftvdhfVersion: 4.7.0

AI > Laws of ProbabilityI once played a game where I placed my first two settlements near 8’s. Yes, both settlements would get a harvest if anyone rolled an eight. First roll, 8. I got wood and a brick…never to see another 8 rolled again! 5’s we’re most common and 9’s. So not out of the realm of reality, but one 8? Just one? And the AI seemed to have an unlimited amount of Knight cards! Just decimated my chance to win…and yet, (I was playing the oasis map) AI makes foolish trades. I got into the clouds and placed my settlement and cities on the “multiverse” land hex. It was a nine and I had three cities around it. I won because of longest road, cities (I did have a settlement near a rock 6 later in the game) and victory cards found in the clouds. I only play oasis now because of the AI’s knack of rolling 7’s and having all the knight cards, and to get some space to get all the numbers so no matter what the roll is, I get something..KingKookaVersion: 4.7.5

The AI Cheats; Still GreatThe AI absolutely cheats on the more difficult mode. I have no doubt of this. Yet, this game is still great. I never lose when I play in real life, because I’ve played against the cheating AI and learned how to win regardless. The only other quibble I might have is that the computer won’t ever trade multiple of the same resource. Ever, that I’ve seen. It will occasionally trade you, say, one wheat, one brick, and one stone, in exchange for one sheep, but it will never trade, for example, two or three wheat for one stone. Meanwhile, you can see if the computer will trade for something, then just keep adding the other resources from the AI. Usually, you can get extra resources that way, whereas in real life, it never works that way. People in real life are far more likely to walk away from trades in real life if you try to renegotiate. The computer will always just give you more, assuming it has more. That is sort of the opposite of cheating, and it’s way too easy and tempting to avoid. That could be randomized or fixed somehow, I’m sure, based on how people play in real life. Maybe make different characters play that differently. Again, there are annoying aspects of the AI, but it’s a great game, and I am shockingly good in real life now because of it..Will in AustinVersion: 4.6.8

Endless Catan playI love playing Catan and this app allows me to play , as a single person. I would have loved it was more intuitive or better instructions when beginning, as I had a hard time to figure it out. Also, if we could have a full screen, it would be easier to see what’s written. Horrible CPU AI and Buggy GameI only play this because there are no better alternatives, and I love Catan, but it’s still bad. The CPU initial settlement placement is so bad that if you pick 3rd or 4th, you’re guaranteed to get two elite production spots while 1st and 2nd are terrible. Then, the CPU will constantly target you with the robber the entire game even if you’re not winning. It’s ridiculous. The CPU will constantly trade each other exactly what they need to build a settlement, road, development card, or city to screw over the user. They ALWAYS seem to have knight cards when the robber gets placed on their territory but also ALWAYS have monopoly, year of plenty, etc. when the robber is on your space. Also, the CPU definitely spends resources they don’t have. In a recent game I played, the CPU built a settlement and bought a dev card despite having only 6 resources and never producing or trading for ore. I’ve had the CPU build a city on its first turn despite neither their ore or wheat hex being rolled (you can only start with 3 resources from your second placement, so they would’ve needed two rolls to get a city). Don’t even get me started on how your numbers always get rolled after the robber gets placed on that number. Finally, the game crashes constantly, like at least 3-5 times a game. Overall, the game IS Catan, but it’s brutally stacked against the user since the CPU can’t outsmart a semi-decent player. Save your moneyI usually never think about writing reviews, however, I feel it’s necessary. I LOVE the board game, and I thought having this as an option to play would be fun. It isn’t, the game is really buggy, it kicks you from games and sometimes pressing a button doesn’t register and you’re stuck there waiting for the game to respond. I would simply be playing the game and I’d get kicked or a player would be disconnected — it’s super frustrating. Speaking of players, I would have a full 3-4 player game with all online players and even with a mix of AI — it feels like the game is rigged sometimes or a player is cheating (even if they’re not) in favor of certain players for the probability of some of the spaces on the board are low and when a player (most of the time AI) roles the dice — it favors those low probability spots of opponents multiple times in a row and you’re left there thinking “How?” — like the chances of those dice rolling that low probability of a number on their settlements multiple times in a row is extremely low. Also, it’s may be the game disconnecting other players, but when playing and you make a strategic move against your opponent, they just up and leave and then you’re left just playing with AI taking over their spot or exiting and restarting another lengthy game. Just do yourself a solid and save your $6.00 for you to purchase the board game yourself and put the phone away to spend time with family and friends. Brought down by the little big thingsThe app is fun and great for down time at work during break, which is when I’ve been playing for the last few weeks. I have played the regular board game Catan with a group of friends a handful of times over the past year, so I am not an experienced settler but I have experience with the basic game and one game with the seafarers expansion pack. I mention this so people can know that I’m not critiquing the gameplay. Playing on the app (campaign only) has given me a lot of experience and improved my game. It keeps me playing for 20-30 minutes at a time because of the smoothness and easy flow of the game. However I give the app 2 stars because of 2 big annoyances to me. Twice I’ve had the campaign freeze on me during a computers turn where nothing happens yet I can save and quit to come back to the same stuck game. The other issue is the blatant ai advantage. It is not fun to be one point away from victory, or one resource away from getting a vital settlement or city, and then have the computer constantly roll 7’s to steal all my resources and deny me from making my move for 10 turns. I would prefer difficulty to come from AI intelligence rather than fixed rolls. I have not tried online play, and I see that you can change the rolls in custom games. I enjoy the campaign so I would rather play that instead of a custom game with accurate rolls. Terrible design and layout. DO NOT PAY FOR THIS GAMEGame is not worth $5 by any stretch of anyones imagination. Terrible layout. 40% of the game screen is water/unused surface, but for some reason they lay the ridiculous emojis over ur opponents running score. The game selection menu is junk. Worse than junk. Hot, sweaty, junky junk. If someone does not accept to join game, all players are reshuffled per each not acceptance and have to accept each time a new player even enters the screen. Makes no sense. Worst part is people not playing. There is apparently no time limit on turns, which is obnoxious, and when someone quits mid game, instead of just switching over to AI player seamlessly, all players are logged out to menu screen and have to re-accept playing a game that they are already playing. The game freezes constantly. Like 60% of the time. It’s like the have one server. You are likely to complete about 20% of games started because either the game freezes, someone else quits mid game and it just idles endlessly, or you quit yourself out of frustration. Lazy/Cheap Implementation - and they sell your usage dataAs others have observed and mentioned in their reviews, I’ve noticed the game uses circumstance to assist the AI players instead of relying on pure strategy. For example, I notice about 50% of the time after the robber is moved, especially from a knight pre-roll, the next number rolled is the number covered. Also, the AI’s have no concept of another player winning through Dev cards and will all attack the human or the player (ai or human) with the most visible victory points, regardless of that player’s potential to gain more points (e.g. when you’ve built all 4 cities and have no room to build new roads and settlements). They also seem to consistently gang up on the human regardless of proximity to winning once the human has half the required victory points to win. To be clear, I still win 75%+ with the bots set to the hardest difficulty. But I find it annoying and simply not fun contorting my playing style to trick the bots rather than playing with pure strategy. Also the app crashes 5-20 times per game for me. Though I notice it crashes less when I ignore all trades. OH! And let’s not forget. They sell your data (when you log in and play, so whatever marketing agency is buying that data knows when to try to target you I presume), if you don’t have your internet routed through the EU where GDPR requires them not to. You get a nice little alert when you switch your vpn to Europe and the game stops sending data. Dice Not RandomI’ve literally been playing this game on my phone for years. The dice aren’t random. I refuse to believe it. The moment you get 8 or more cards, a 7 is rolling. But what’s more annoying is the fact I try to capitalize on the best numbers: 5,6,8,9. If you build on everything except 9, 9 will be the highest rolling number. Without fail, whatever number you haven’t built on is going to roll more than any other number. I’ve literally had games where 2 or 3 outrolled 6 and 8. It’s soooooo bad. I hate it. And the AI will bank on it. They’ll have like 2 cities on a 12. Also, the computer players will ruin you. Even if you’re not winning. There’s been games where I’m losing by 2 points and all the AI are still putting the robber on me, and moving the robber from me to ME again. NOBODY DOES THAT. It’s just a waste of a knight. And once the knight is on your number, watch it roll like 3 times in a row. It’s a joke. I’d be ok with the ai if the dice were random, but that’s a game killer. I do like all the game types, and it’s fairly easy to beat the ai because they’re not too bright. I still play the game regularly, but it’s infuriating at times. Be prepared. Needs much improvementI love the Catan game in-person and there’s a lot about this online version that’s good, but it has a ton of work left to do. For a paid game, it’s disappointing to say the least. The best thing about an app is playing online with random people. This happens to be the worst thing about this app. There should be options for if you want to play three players or more—like you enter a room that’s set up for that. People constantly bail on games or even the set up for a game, and they get antsy if you try to wait for a fourth person. People leave in the middle of games all the time and it makes the app get a bit weird. There’s nothing enticing people to stay in the game. Also, there should be rooms that no one is the “host”, instead the app sets up the room not trigger happy people who kick people constantly. It would also give people more opportunity to jump into a game they actually want to play. “Leaving” a room/game before it begins or being kicked is annoying because there’s no quick way to jump into another one. You are basically booted from the whole game and have to relog in or select “online”. Why? You were already there in the first place. And there’s no way to stop the app from putting you back into a room you just left or were kicked out of. Online is the only way to really play this, because playing with computers is super dull, but this app makes playing online the least fun thing out there. Developer is terribleFirst thing this game pays no attention to odds of a number being rolled. Normally, mid-range numbers are the best, for example 6 and 8. This developer has some lunatic system where 12 & 2 will be rolled frequently if the AI needs those resources, and if you are on 6 & 8 those numbers become infrequent. 7s will be rolled several times in a row to beat you down if you are ahead. I have played many games where I’m ahead and the next 3 rolls are 7, and on top of that, 3 robber cards get played on you. You literally get beaten to a pulp and are helpless. Now one might argue that it is a good idea to buy development cards, except the game cheats here to. I’ve played games where by turn 3 or 4, each of the AI players have multiple dev cards, when a resource used to buy them has only been rolled maybe once up to that point, for example sheep. I just finished a game where one of the AI players had pretty bad board position with no stone and a “3” grain. They had 3 cities and what seemed to be a constant supply of dev cards. They also had no ports, so it’s very fishy and didn’t seem possible. Basically the developer ignores dice odds and just cheats when they need to bash you out of the lead. Keeps kicking me outWasn’t gonna write a review because I have mixed feelings. I love this game, but I can’t ever play with real ppl because I either get kicked out or someone decides they want to quit and then it’s just dumb. Ok but very irritating (more so than a real life game of settlers)The AI loves to hammer you with the robber even if you don’t have the lead. I get in a game you can pick on someone who’s building towards what you want or just got the resource you need but a lot of the time it’s who has the lead. The AI doesn’t care even if you're down 3 points and on the other side of the map you’ll still get slammed with the robber 3/4 the time. Also there is only 2 monopoly cards in the deck and I’ve played standard games where they have been used 3 times. I get in the different scenarios that rules and limits vary (although none note more monopoly cards) so I won’t pick on how in those games, but I’ve seen as many as 4 used in a game. Computer cheats or game is buggyI left a one star review a month ago and it didn't get posted so consider this 2 one star reviews. This review is completely unrelated to my last review. This game is either cheap or buggy. I've had my resource cards disappear out of nowhere. Didn't trade them, didn't get robbed. They literally just leave my hand. The computer players work together against you. AI knows what cards you have. They only offer you resources you already have, never offer anything you need. AI almost never accepts offers for resources that you need in exchange for resources they have in abundance. AI almost exclusively puts the robber on your tiles. Every card they steal from you is a resource you need for your next turn. Any card you rob from them is a resource you either don't need or have a lot of already. Anytime they place the robber on your tile, that number becomes the "hot" number to roll. As soon as the robber is moved elsewhere, that number goes cold and doesn't get rolled. I paid $5 for the app and I'm deleting it for my own sanity. The $5 doesn't matter at this point. Even if you have the patience of a saint, this game will severely test your patience to the max. Robber doesn’t play right / unfair constant trading that no one would ever really do. Just fix it!The AI always put the robber on my spaces even when it doesn’t make sense. "Catch-Up Mode" is RidiculousAIs get an unfair advantage when the player takes any sort of lead. And they maintain this advantage even after they've caught up. They even trade amongst each other to take down the player in ways no human would because it hurts their own chances. For instance, the blue AI had caught up to me in victory points in one game and was 3 away from winning. Red traded with Blue three times in one turn even though Red was losing by at least 6 points. Yellow's turn came and they also traded with Blue, allowing Blue to win. Why on Earth would that happen? It makes no sense and is very frustrating to watch the AI collaborate against you in ways no human player would ever do. Especially when this turns a calculated win into an incredibly improbable (bordering on mathematically impossible) loss. As other players have noted, this behavior extends to the robber and even seems to affect dice rolls. This is at the very least a poor decision and in my eyes is even unethical (although very minor on the ethics scale, admittedly). Stupid AI and breaks Catan rules.There are several rules that this app breaks. Mostly concerning knights. There are random trades between the AIs that you can’t see. Many that no real player would do because it causes a win. They work together to make sure you don’t win. The numbers rolled cannot possibly be random. It will not roll what you need while over rolling their numbers. They put the robber on only you, never on each other. The barbarian is rolled WAY more than I’m real life. It’s crazy. I’ve lost cities in almost every game but not until the AI is covered and won’t lose theirs. Walls don’t save you like they’re supposed to. You lose them anyway. Another rule break. 7s are rarely rolled when they are holding too many cards but more than half the time when you are. That means you lose card constantly while waiting for your number to come up or while needing something they have a robber on. It’s as if the devs will not allow you to win. It’s complete crap. Decent but...This is a decent game (I’m playing free version), but every few games the AI will hammer you regardless if the other AI player is sitting at one VP from victory and you’re down 2+ points and have no resource cards, robber will still be played on you. I would have rated this as a 3 star game, however the recent update for iPhone X devices made the game glitchy. Choosing resources for Monopoly cards or trading, the selected resource will get stuck halfway between up/down, the resources and several options are at the very bottom of the screen now so when making a selection I invariably close the game and have to reopen it, and the text and graphics are much smaller (presumably to fit on the smaller screen, but there was no problem before the update). If they can fix this recent update then I would say it could get back to a mediocre 3 star rating. Robber cannot be moved with out crashing the game!I am very disappointed! Call me a fool and a glutton for punishment! First I purchased Catan HD, thinking it was the newest and would be the best Catan game. Wrong, as the robber would freeze the game if I put it in the obvious advantageous place for me. Frustrated, I purchased Catan Classic, thinking it would be different. Wrong! It also crashes, where the selection to go ahead with the game disappears when you move the robber to the most advantageous place. You have to cancel out of the game completely, and restart, saying you want to continue... but the same thing will happen if you try to move the robber in the most advantages spot again. Why I Uninstalled This AppAfter countless rounds, I finally uninstalled this app for good. The AI is clearly rigged against you. As soon as you build one settlement, all 7’s start piling onto your spaces, even if the computer is ahead. All knight cards played will peg the robber onto you, on your best money-making spots. The only way to win is to box the computer in so they can’t expand, but it literally takes twice the amount of resources to win (or do anything, really), because half your resources get stolen and redistributed back at the computer. Year of plenty always is played so that it steals your resources the most. No point in buying knights, you won’t compete against the amount of knights and 7’s rolled by the computer. Even if you have the most cities and spaces, you’re playing poor the entire game. Getting the Longest Road is a MUST. There are so many things that make this game unwinnable that it’s absurdly frustrating, such that I want to throw my $900 iPhone 11 at the wall, every time. They constantly cycle through the same people god forbid its someone who you just played with and quit either mid game or at the very end because they’d rather run away than see someone else win. There should be like a 30 minute temporary ban for ditching before the game ends too many times in a row. 5 out of 6 games I have played today have ended due to someone quitting; thats the only reason anyone can play 6 games to begin with and its irritating. AI FlawsI love Catan and have played a lot of games with this app now, always against 3-4 AI and most of the time with the normal game board and I’ve been noticing some ridiculousness with the AI, in particular with knights. For example, I just played a game where the “winner” played knights multiple times but their development card count did not get lower. Additionally, once or twice the same AI character magically gained a development card without paying for it. I’ve noticed weird things like this a few times but this was the first that was comically ridiculous. The numbers rolled are definitely not completely random either although, knowing this, I just try to diversify. In general, the number of times the AI “win” by development card victory points is not even close to realistic either. This is why I started watching development card acquisition and use in general. Fix your AIIt’s total garbage. And find a way to penalize players for quitting online games. I just had two players drop out because I had a one point lead and they’re bad sports, only to have the AI replacements LITERALLY play knight cards AND roll 7’s FOUR TURNS IN A ROW. and only rob me, of course. In a matter four or five turns an AI player managed to pick up Longest Road, Largest Army, AND two Victory Point cards for the win, while I was unable to build a single road or buy a single development card. This is total bollocks and extremely frustrating. I play this game a lot and that’s pretty much how every game goes. It’s no fun, even when it sometimes seems to be skewed in my favor. Great UI, Ridiculous AI!I’ve gotta give credit for the design of the game - it’s amazing. But the AI is laughably flawed. I say “laughably” because I’ve already pushed through the confusion, denial, anger and fuming stages of playing the app. At this point I just laugh out loud when the AI players move through absurdly ridiculous scenarios to strip me of all my cards and roll anything but the numbers where I have settlements and cities (how many times can you roll only 3s, 11s, 7s and 12s in a roll!!) Oh, but then it does roll a good number, but, of course, only directly after it has placed the robber where you have a city/settlement on that number! And then it rolls it again just to add salt to the back stabbing wound!! Then it teases me by giving me a rainfall of good dice rolls before rolling a seven on my turn and depleting the supply. Wait, I’m not done! I’m in awe of the “ghost” knights - where the AI players suddenly jump all over the board using a string of knight cards that spontaneously appeared in their hands for free. Game always lets computers win.I’m leaving 1 star until they fix the absolute abomination of what they call a campaign. The dice rolls are absurdly unfair. The game CLEARLY favors the computers. I’ll be in a game where the goal is 12 victory points. I’ll have 10 points while the computers have 5-7. Within 10 turns, 5 of the dice rolls will be a 7 and at least 5 of those turns a knight will be played and placed on one of my tiles. The tile they place it on will be a 6, for example, and the entire time the knight is on my 6, the number 6 will continuously be rolled but as soon as the knight is removed, the number 6 is now never rolled making it impossible for me to obtain the 1 resource I need to win the game. Also, the computers are constantly trading each other allowing one another to obtain the resources they need to win the game. I want my money back!!!This is my second review by this app is so horrible. I just quit a game by it was skipping my turn and saying I do not have sufficient resources to buy a dev card or a settlement when I had the cards. So my only option is to pass the roll and then someone rolls a 7 and I lose half the cards it just said that I did not have! Then someone rolled wheat that I had a city on and it showed the two wheat coming my way but they never registered as my wheat. It gave me two dev cards when I bought only one and then I was never able to play either of them! How can such a popular game be so poorly created online? Not user friendly and crashes often. In the Xbox console version, it is very clear when it is your turn, the order of operations of your turn, and the console version has a button that states “end your turn”. I had fun with the console version but got the mobile app so I could play with my mom since she doesn’t have an Xbox. It was just overall a bad experience and it felt inconsistent in regard to what determines the end of your turn. Also, the login/create an account screen is buggy and lacks some type of feedback to let you know it’s functioning. The add-a-friend page in the online custom match area of the app is also in German and I could not figure out how to change it to English. Overall, I would certainly recommend the Xbox console version of Catan. It’s very easy to learn and understand and it flows well. Rigged!!While I do love the Catan game I’m constantly frustrated at the way the AI on this game turns on you once you are in the lead. I’ve played it hundreds of times so know the tendencies. Once I get Longest Road, out come the “7” rolls and Knight cards against me. And where are the AI players getting all the cards? They’re no way getting the rolls to get the resources for the Development cards they acquire. I also watch sometimes amazed at how a player can build 4 roads and a village with only 8 resources. I also watch their trades and resource spending. Their numbers don’t match up to what they’re spending. I also know if I refuse a trade before my turn I’ll get a seven if I have 8 or more resources. Never seems to happen to the other players who seem to stack up 12-16 without ever getting robbed. And the “luck” of the rolls. I once played a game where there were SIX rolls of 7 in a row. Other times it’s other numbers but the distribution curve is anything but truly random. What this app needs is a true randomizer for the die rolls..Gill228Version: 4.7.5

Might be a bit pro AII would have to try the actual board game before being 100% if this is good or bad. So far I have only build 2 settlements and 3 roads max in every game in over 10 games. The Dynamic Island on modern iPhones makes it impossible to open the menu in game unless you have your phone rotated in a specific way. And if you’re playing with expansions then no matter way orientation your phone is, the island blocks import game buttons/information. I emailed and heard nothing back.
