HealthEquity Mobile Positive Reviews
App works but Health Equity doesn’tAfter getting errors earlier this year the app now works. Info easier to find in app rather than online. However, the company is horrible. They take weeks to months to pay and say they are waiting for funds from the “sponsor” which in my case is my employer - the city. Council minutes show the payments made and a bulk payment went to Health Equity at the beginning of the year. For health/medical reimbursement the full election of funds are available Jan 1 - unlike dependent care which is reimbursed as funds are taken from my paycheck. I’m not the only one within the city having problems but #1 and #2 as well..Username taken 1Version: 6.5.1
Frequent app freezes. Useless document photo feature.Edit: Changed the prior one star review below to 5 stars. The latest app update fixes all of the issues below, at long last. Great job!
Original Review: The app frequently freezes completely, requiring a restart and re-login. The main reason to use the app versus the desktop website is for convenient uploading of document photos. Unfortunately this functionality is pretty poor. The app only captures a square subset of the photo, and from the camera filter it’s not the part you’d expect. This means you often have to retry a document photo several times to capture the part you want. The photos are aggravatingly stored at a 90 degree rotation, and you can zoom in on them. This bizarre functionality has been politely reported to the developers with no response. Overall Health Equity is a fine service. Fixing the basic app functionality would make it even better..KevinskiiVersion: 6.0.1
Use a web browser on a desktop computer instead of the iOS appFor about ten years, I have had my HSA at HealthEquity. I usually use a web browser on a desktop computer to access my account. As a test, I decided to use the iPad app today to submit several receipts for card transactions at a doctor. I had already scanned the receipts and placed them in a folder on my iCloud account. The steps to submit the first receipt were not as simple as on the desktop. For example, the list of card transactions showed the date that the doctor actually “applied” the payment, not the date of my appointment. The worst part of using the iPad app was that after I successfully submitted the first receipt, the program sends the user back to the “More” page where you got started. The user then needs to drill back down into the submit a receipt page to submit another receipt. Never again am I going to use this app for this task. I am going back to the web site with my desktop computer..Radish ManVersion: 5.2.4
TransitionMy current HSA account is closing. My employer informed us that HealthEquity would be our new provider. When I receive my HealthEquity card, I thought all of the funding from my other account would be accessible immediately, it was not.
I do not remember the lovely lady’s name that assisted me when I called, however, she was fantastic, and walked me through the process with dates, holding dates, and when funds would be readily available and in HealthEquity. She also walked me through some of her favorite sites on the HealthEquity app and website. I have notes, but they’re not in front of me so I cannot give her name. I was a little apprehensive because I did enjoy my current providers amenities. It looks like HealthEquity has the same level of service, probably better. They definitely have excellent representatives on the phone. Thank you..MFamousMeauxVersion: 5.3.3
Needs updatesThere’s a lot of glitches with the app. It’s fine when it works but very frustrating when it doesn’t. I get a lot of error codes and sometimes it won’t let me save my claims even as drafts, which becomes annoying because then I have to go back in and fill it out again. It also sometimes won’t let me attach specific receipts. There’s no rhyme or reason as to why not either. I will attach one photo from my camera role and then try to attach another and the second one won’t work. There’s also no option to edit a claim/reimbursement request after saving it. That seems really silly because if you make a mistake and don’t catch it before submitting then you have to close it and resubmit a new one. Overall, it’s a bit glitchy and could use some improvements for user functionality..Just_your_average_userVersion: 6.5.1
Getting BetterI like the new look of the app. I don’t ever look at reviews that say “worst app ever” or something to that effect. If you’re going to leave a review be constructive and provide actual feedback. The developers can’t do anything with “worst app ever”.
The look and feel are nice. I like the popover from the plus button a nice look. I like seeing my total contributions on the main screen. I will take thing here that is frustrating to me. When I get emails from you about my employers contribution or my employee contribution you should have the amounts that were added. I know that has nothing to do with the app, but it’s a frustrating thing for me. I like how much easier and clearer it is to add expenses and look at expenses. Over all nice job..Appledad05Version: 5.1.2
Annoying timeout and loginIt's well built that is until you're chatting with support and the app logs you out without any prompt that you're about to be logged out or ask if you want to extend your session. Thats one flaw. The next flaw- trying to logging immediately after in the same screen without havent left the app after being logged out with the same credentials you last used to sign in the app rejects your sign-on and says incorrect password/username. Very annoying. I had to kill the app and start it over to take my credentials and praying the chat support won't close the conversation because we all know how frustrating it is to start over with a new rep. Please find bug and fix..SbopimVersion: 7.0.6
Easy to use and secureProven security is at the heart of the HealthEquity app, giving me peace of mind when managing my personal health information. The app is incredibly user-friendly, with a clean interface that makes navigating through features, straightforward, and intuitive. I love how quickly I can access my health records, track, my expenses, and manage my health savings account all in one place
The regular updates show the developers are committed to maintaining a high levels of security and functionality. Highly recommend this app for anyone looking to streamline their health management with confidence and ease!.Jester_Four4Version: 6.2.0
Good but could use improvementsIt would be pretty great to have the option to HIDE unused accounts (Transit and Parking) for those of us who use HealthEquity HSA only, or for that matter, to hide the entire “OTHER ACCOUNTS” section. I have no other accounts! Those take up 2/3 of my screen and for what? (Hint: nothing!) They are useless (at least to me) and are in the way so that the Resources section isn’t visible. Even if we had the option to COLLAPSE the “OTHER ACCOUNTS” section, that world be an improvement, but ideally those who gave no “other accounts” should have an option to HIDE that section completely.
Annoying..PianonurseVersion: 6.5.2
ReviewI like the app, however, if a service provider claims that they have yet to receive their payment, the feature to see the address details for each payment made is no longer available, making me have to call to verify details rather than quickly checking myself. Please reinstate that feature.
Also the investing feature is confusing. I receive notification that a transaction is pending as if I need to do something, yet, when I log in, there is nothing for me to do. So I am not sure if transactions are being completed/handled.
Thanks.HRodz05Version: 5.1.5
Better but not perfect yetI believe when you leave a review, it offers suggestions of how to improve. When I see reviews of “it’s the worst app in the world” it’s unhelpful and probably a competitor trying to lower scores or someone that doesn’t actually want you to fix anything. This new app is a big improvement from the old one. I’d like to see easier filtering for “expenses”. but balances, investments and uploads are greatly improved. Login works great and thanks for fixing the face scanner. I look forward to further improvements..DNCRGRLJOVersion: 5.0.0

HealthEquity Mobile Negative Reviews
Needs an overhaulUnfortunately my company uses woke-named “HealthEquity”. The app works in a sense, but leaves way too much to be desired. It’s slow, frequently crashes, difficult to navigate, barely performs the essential functions. Want to submit a claim? Well, the app will replace the provider’s name with your own after submission, corrupting up your claim history. Can you correct it in app or online? Absolutely not. Need to attach a receipt? Better take a photo first because the app forces a square aspect ratio. Once your receipt is attached, time to submit for reimbursement. Wait, the app froze on submission and won’t respond despite waiting? Time to force kill. Want to look at claim history? You have to dig through the menus to find it. While you’re digging through those menus, you’re waiting for the app to respond to your screen taps. Now the app is unresponsive. Time to force kill and start over. Oh, the app submitted the claim twice? Well, time to login online and navigate who different screens, using different lexicon for the same concepts, in order to void the claim.
I’m not sure how any of these basic features were released in this state. Did you even perform functional analysis? Did you perform heuristic analysis of usability?
As a reference, the PayFlex app is very basic, but responsive and functional. Take a look at the competition and learn what makes them successful..YouKnowItIKnowItVersion: 5.1.7
This app is SO bad…How bad is it? It asks for feedback. Every time I try and give it feedback, it crashes. In the middle of giving responses to a survey just now, it said I would be logged out due to “inactivity”, and took me back to the screen, and lost all my feedback. Back to that - it’s as if the designers don’t speak English, or understand the meaning of basic words. I have $8500 in my account. My company requires $1000be in cash. $7000 is currently invested. If I try and invest the remaining $500, it says I have $7500 “available to invest”, ignoring that $7000 is already invested (I’m rounding here, but in reality the numbers are off, so I have to jump screens myself to figure out how much I have left to properly invest, because the app is too stupid to do that for me or just tell me the available cash). Realized there’s an “auto invest” feature. Go to turn that on. The options are to invest everything over the $1000 my company requires be kept in cash, $4000 to match my deductible, or “custom” to set another amount. I select $1000. It asks me to confirm a “custom” amount. Did it a couple of times before reading the fine print that my “custom” amount is $1000. It has a pie chart with allocations of investments. All of mine are just lumped under the “other” category (even though they comprise half the investment choices available). I wouldn’t use this app if I wasn’t forced to as the only option from my employer. Unnecessarily confusing and poorly designed. Setting it up was equally annoying and problematic, too..Utterly flabbergastedVersion: 7.1.4
Very bad appThe app looks nice, but the functionality is very bad. Trying to submit a reimbursement request is a nightmare. It makes you add provider billing address, but then doesn’t save the provider info so you have to enter it every time. It fails when I try to upload a PDF, so I try uploading a screenshot of the pdf but then the app often entirely freezes when opening my photo library. You can’t save partial expenses so if it freezes, you have to close the app and restart the expense from scratch. It automatically generates expenses, but I don’t know where it’s getting the expense information from—I assume it’s from my insurance, but it doesn’t give any information other than the date and amount so I don’t know how to get proper documentation to finish submitting those expenses.
The app just seems to go out of its way to make the process difficult. My previous HSA provider’s app was much easier to use. Unfortunately, most of the people downloading the app are probably in the same situation as me, where the HSA is selected by their employer so they don’t really have any choice in the matter. To those people I wish the best of luck through their impending miserable experiences with this app..SlayrHinVersion: 7.0.8
Going downhill!Hello, just wanted to drop a note about my experience over the past few months with this app. I used to absolutely love this because I can quickly access all my remaining bills after insurance and pay my doctors from my HRA, HSA etc. but as of late, the app has not been working. I called in for assistance and was told that there is nobody there that actually manages the app and make sure it is updated and working. I find this very odd and concerning. It took until now for my funds for this fiscal year to finally post but I still am not able to actually use those funds from the app to make payments like I have been able to do for the past two years. This is very frustrating! The same guy that told me no one monitors the app suggested I pay at the time of service! No thank you! I want to see the items and what I owe before I pay, it prevents outstanding balances and overpayments. He then said I could pay online with a computer instead of using the app but the funds will still not process, I get an error message every time I submit with a number to call (that I called) with no resolve. Basically be advised, you may not be able to actually use your money. 😔.Ms.PippyVersion: 5.1.18
Worst app I’ve experienced in yearsHealth Equity is used by my employer so I’m stuck with them unless I chose not to renew my HSA contributions next year. Which is very likely at this point. Beyond the fact that it took them nearly a year to tell me a particular transaction wasn’t approved because my policy start date was almost 2 months after I started my job, and the transaction occurred 4 days too early, leaving me with no option other than to reimburse them and lose the money because it’s now too late to pay anything from 2022 (everything else has been paid already)…. This app is horrible. It’s not easy to navigate. It seems like it should be fairly straightforward and intuitive. But on the off chance you can find what you’re looking for or get any of the functionality to open when you click on it, when you try to upload or attach documentation you’ll be met with frequent error messages and pages of blank information. The website through any browser is just as bad. This is by far the worst app I’ve used or had the experience of using for as long as I can recall. Makes you wonder what the motivation is behind not improving it..NeedABudgetNowVersion: 5.2.6
TerribleUpdate #2: Not only is this app horrible, this company is horrible to deal with! It would have been easier to not attempt to take advantage of tax benefits than deal with these people!
First of all, I shouldn’t have to submit proof of anything to them. I should be able to withdraw my money. Tax implications are on me, not them. Having to submit proof is stupid, outdated, and not on anyone else. This app is as terrible as this company’s website. I’m pretty sure the website is from 1999. The app is following the same terrible style. It’s not intuitive at all. For example, I added an external account to complete an EFT. The option to add an account is in a place you have to dig for it. I added it and it just says “not verified”. That’s it. No instructions on how or when it will be verified. I had to hunt for an article on how to verify. What the article said is not what happened on the verify page. I checked my email that explained they need to send micro deposits to verify. Ok, great, but why on earth wouldn’t it tell me that in the app? Apparently some accounts can be verified without micro deposits. I found this after hunting for articles. Really? Why would I have to hunt?! Why wouldn’t the add account page itself give that information?? The app isn’t smart enough to pop up and tell me it couldn’t verified instantly, they’d be sending micro deposits, and explain how to validate the deposits once they come through??? Right now there’s zero place to verify micro deposits. My assumption is this appears later, but I have no idea BECAUSE THEIR APP CONTAINS ZERO INFORMATION! That assumption may be giving them too much credit. I cannot wait to withdraw all my funds for medical expenses and be done with trying to manage this dumb account. Update: the micro deposits are in my checking account and there’s literally NO WHERE to enter them in this stupid and useless app.BeachBound13Version: 6.2.0
AwfulNo way to correct mistakes or to delete a submission. You can actually resubmit the same entry over and over, which I’m not sure why it’s even an option. The app freezes. Cannot scroll down at times. It doesn’t recognize previously entered providers. And if you have CVS receipts you need to enter the address for every si for one every time. I set up a passkey, got confirmation. Every time I try to log in I have to go through setting up a new passkey. It never works. I haven’t even tried to do anything else on the app yet… Please, please hire someone who can actually design a working app and someone who can organize information in a logical way. It feels like a scattered brain created the app and everyone cheered what a great accomplishment and then published it. So disappointed. I’m considering giving up on health saving accounts all together because the time it takes to enter receipts for reimbursement is absolutely ridiculous. I really hope someone in charge reads these reviews and decides to take their role seriously..Cori HopVersion: 7.2.0
This company is terribleI recently started working at a different hospital and my employer uses his platform. It is infuriating. I am a physician and I'm very careful on what I apply. It denies everything even with adequate documentation that is accepted By other companies. Things that should take 5 to 10 minutes take hours they are online. Customer service is very nice. But basically tells you that you should just spend more time on the web trying to get it through without given willing to look at it and give insight for other strategies. When I brought up that I have spent two hours on this and it feels like she is suggesting that the answer is I spent four hours for a very easy submission. The customer service magically disconnects. All of these companies are challenging as they want it to be automated and for your FSA dollars to only go to places like Walmart. I never take the time to write reviews, but this has been such a terrible experience I feel compelled to warn other people..10+0!!Version: 7.1.0
Never remembers my password and will not let me use Face ID.This app used to be great, but around three or four updates ago, it started requiring my password every single time I logged in.
Then I will enter my password, login, and set up the biometric login, which should be my Face ID. Then on the same session I go back into it and it shows that it is not clicked over to the biometric login. It's almost like it forgets it immediately after you click it over to start using it.
Also, it won't let you use the app at all unless you update it when the new update comes out. I don't know how many times I've wanted to just login and check my balance quickly, but then I have to download the new update and re-enter my password again, just to get my balance. Please fix this because it is a huge hassle to constantly put my password in when I should be able to use my Face ID. Also, it doesn't matter if you click remember me, because that doesn't work either..RfcviperVersion: 6.2.0
PainfulThis is the SLOWEST and BUGGIEST app I have. It is painful for me to use. I usually have to try 3-4 times to get a reimbursement request submitted because it will freeze or crash that often during use. I’ve had it for years and it has only had mild improvements during that time. If it wasn’t chosen for me by my employer, I would delete it in a heartbeat. The pop up menu takes 10+ seconds to load each time, if it even does. The list of Providers only loads half the time. It crashes after submission the other half. There’s little to no information about the status of a claim or when it will actually be reimbursed. It has a generally good concept behind it, but the execution is terrible. Submitting a claim should take me only about a minute, but it usually takes at least 10 with all the bugs. Each selection will often freeze, have no options to choose from, or cause the app to crash completely..KaylaIngVersion: 5.1.15
App quality going downhillThere are numerous issues with the authentication methods for this service. Logging into the app is ok, but absolutely will not work to authenticate any web logins. The web default is to send a notification to the mobile device, but when I click that notification the app just sits on the login page with an error. If I login to the app first and then send a notification, the app just sits on the home page. No notification dialog.
Even worse, when I tried to fill out the feedback form in the app, a dialog popped up halfway through that my session was ending soon; when I touched the button to extend my session the feedback form was gone. Wasted time.
Finally, I’ve been just using a passkey on my browser to login from the web, and now that just displays “sorry, you are not authorized to view this page.”
Developers need to get their act together on authentication and dialog boxes..SeattleMAGVersion: 7.1.5
Do they have a QA group?I am an actual user (not a competitor as another review claims), and this is by far the most incompetently designed and executed app I have ever seen. I submit a claim or two every month, and every time I try to use this app first in hopes they’ve finally fixed it. Yet every month, it’s broken in completely new and “interesting” ways that force me back to the web site yet again.
It is obvious nobody at HealthEquity has ever actually used their app and there is no QA being done; they just dump it on the users (trapped by their employer’s choice, which makes the competitor comment bizarre) and let them report what doesn’t work. And for every bug they do eventually fix, they break three more things.
Use the web site instead, and from a desktop since it doesn’t work on a tablet/phone any better than the app does. Its workflow is almost as nonsensical, but at least you can actually get things done after a banging your head against the wall enough times..StephenTX214Version: 5.0.0
UX failNew UI is terribly unusable. The old one was significantly easier to use. No point making it look pretty if it’s harder to get tasks done. Why wouldn’t you default the service end date to the service start date when the start date is changed? Why force entry for a provider billing address if I’m going to reimburse myself? Maybe ask first in the flow. Why force a dollar entry on the final reimbursement screen when it’s already there twice. At least default it. Why does the receipt attach camera capture want to force crop to a square? Have you ever received a perfectly square receipt? I haven’t. Why is the receipt image shown rotated 90 degrees from the capture angle? Why not allow multiple selects from the expenses list when requesting reimbursement? Or at least refresh the list reimbursement status when returning to it from the reimbursement flow. I could go on..ZardozCodesVersion: 5.1.5
Extremely slow and doesn’t workI don’t understand how they could have poor front end and back end developers running this app. This is the only investing platform that CHARGES and doesn’t even work that well compared to free investing platforms which is extremely sad. Just please hire better software engineers to fix these simple issues it’s not hard at all. I’ve had a pending trade now for 5 days idk how that’s even possible….. please please just hire better people to fix this platform. A lot of people are forced to use it due to their employer so it’s not fair to treat people like this. The scary part is when your account gets to a bigger number let’s say 50k and you’re not investing it properly I’m not going to be surprised if you guys get reported to the SEC for malpractice of funds and it’s probably borderline illegal how slow this app is. You’re going to get a lot off people screwed over if you don’t fix this platform.Guy-dude-manVersion: 6.4.0
Why is it so hard to reimburse myselfI previously had Benefit Wallet which was so easy to use. Moving to Health Equity has been a massive downgrade.
Every time I want to reimburse myself, Health Equity requires to me to add the provider through a search which never finds them. Thus I’m require to add a new provider (company name, address, etc). I have yet to figure out how to save providers so I don’t have re-enter this same info for future medical expenses. I’m sure someone will say to just use the debit card, but it’s my HSA money and the Health Equity app literally feels like it’s trying to make it as hard as possible for me to get my funds for qualifying expenses. Now tonight gets better…the ability to search and add a provider is temporarily unavailable. So there is no way for me to submit my reimbursement expense at this moment. This should be core functionality and I should not be restricted from utilizing core functionality..Skaffa77Version: 6.5.3
Garbage App Garbage CompanyProbably one of the most painful apps I have ever used for expenses. It’s so bad it feels deliberate. As if maybe ‘we’ make the app difficult to use people won’t use it correctly and we will get to keep their money …
I will give you two examples.
1. My 2024 FSA is still active yet the app defaults to viewing details on my 2025 FSA which does not become active for another month. So if I want to view expenses or transactions the view is empty by default because the initial view is for an FSA account that is not in fact active yet!
2. Transactions take days or sometimes even weeks to appear even when they were paid with The debit card. I had a debit dentist appointment a month ago that I paid using the FSA debit card. The available FSA balance in the app correctly reflects the charge yet the charge itself doesn’t appear anywhere in either the transactions or expenses view. Yet in order for the transaction to be validated I have to provide documentation. So I probably have to wait several more weeks for the transaction to appear before I can attach the relevant documentation. How much do you want to bet that it will be up to me to constantly check for the transaction? Because you know if I don’t, the transaction will be denied and Health Equity will get to keep my money….KevindwhiteVersion: 5.3.4
Clunky and confusingLike others, I have issues with lists only auto-populating occasionally, leaving me to re-enter provider information for nearly every expense. I also find the app confusing to use. I’ll request a reimbursement, see that the available account balance has been decreased by the amount of the reimbursement request, see that the reimbursement shows as paid under the expense list, see that the reimbursement does NOT appear in the list of completed transactions or pending transactions, and see that if I go to “View Details” for a supposedly- paid claim there are still three active buttons for that expense: “reimburse me”, “pay”, and “mark as closed.” So I never quite know if I’ve entered the information correctly until the money actually shows up in my bank account..Dkapenxusnalcornxox aheicpxnVersion: 5.2.2
Incredibly frustratingI cannot express enough hope much I dread this app. Receipts must be attached to every transaction (which is ridiculous when the card emails me every time my insurance is used, whether the card was used or not... you would think they could just match things up), but that’s fine. Except that every time I tap “attach document” the app closes itself out and I have to log back in and try again. I have about six transactions I need to attach receipts to today, and I’ve logged in 7 times and only been able to attach one. I guess since they have all the power in the relationship—because if we don’t attach the receipts, they’ll just shut out cards down, and since our company chooses the FSA host so we cannot just change to a better one—they don’t feel any incentive to improve this for us. Seriously frustrating..Cnp8119Version: 5.1.5
DesktopQuite a few functions will require a desktop. Also they hold onto your HSA contributions twice as long as Wageworks (doesn’t sound possible does it??) and is inconsistent with depositing those in any form of timely fashion. Also, they do not allow any purchases from Costco pharmacy that aren’t ointment. Talked to the customer service while holding up the line, not only did she have no information that was helpful, she just kept saying she could send me a link for a webinar so I can learn how to do the reimbursement over and over. If you RELY on your HSA money, Health Equity does not give a William Shatner that you do. They may even suggest you borrow money to pay for it then get a reimbursement. So, just be aware… if you want to be able to rely on an HSA provider, you’ll have to get a new job, cause they got me by the pouch, and they have long and sharp nails and zero empathy..Bluecanary84Version: 6.3.1
Broken app, not worth the savingsIt's astonishing how difficult it is to do anything with HealthEquity. Every year when it's time to enroll in an FSA at work I convince myself it'll be worth the money saved, and every year I regret it. I have to call in roughly once a month to understand what's going on with my transactions and claims.
Today I tried to attach a receipt to a card transaction. I took a photo using the app, uploaded the receipt, and got a message that I've reached my 80 document limit for unattached documents. I only have ~25 attached documents and now 1 unattached, not even close to 80. Also, why punish users for uploading documents anyway? How common of a problem can it be that some overeager user decides to upload thousands of documents for no reason?
Anyway, the error message was a false positive because the document uploaded. Then I go to attach the image to the transaction and a little success notification pops up that says "Document successfully deleted." My heart skipped a beat, but then I realized it's yet another false positive. My document wasn't deleted, but it also wasn't attached.
Sometimes it feels like this app is purposely designed to be as painful and confusing as possible..WilsonCPVersion: 7.1.4
UnusableWhen trying to use any of the upload features for documentation - the app is completely useless. I needed to upload documentation to associate a transaction and 1. For a “something went wrong with your request.
Try again later.” 🙄Then I tried going through a different flow by uploading the document into the “documents” tab first and having it “unattached”. I navigated to the transaction, go to the unattached document, click the document, click attach and it says “your document has been successfully deleted” 😆 last attempt: I go to the upload again and it says I’ve reached my limit of 90 inattacjed documents… delete them and try again. I have ZERO unattached documents 🫠so alas, was unable to do what they had emailed me about trying three different routes on the app. Please fix..Danidee111Version: 7.1.9
Disappointed by the Forced Shift to Plaid and Declining ServiceSince HealthEquity acquired Further HSA, the platform has removed the option to manually link a checking account using routing and account numbers—forcing users to go through Plaid. This change alienates customers who either can’t use Plaid or are uncomfortable sharing sensitive banking credentials.
While the company claims these changes enhance security, my experience suggests otherwise. The transition has introduced more friction, not less. Customer support has been unresponsive and unhelpful, leaving employees—who often have no say in their HSA provider—frustrated and stuck.
Between the rigid fee structure, lack of flexibility, and poor support, it’s hard to understand why any employer would choose HealthEquity as their HSA provider. The user experience has taken a clear step backward..Costanzo98042Version: 7.0.3
Worst app ever. This is the truly the worst app I have ever used. I have had 3 different Flex services before from other providers who were so easy to use, the apps did not have issues. I get constant error messages, the home page freezes and crashes regularly, the provider “search” doesn’t remember information I put in so I have to put it in repeatedly. Some of my providers are childcare individuals who don’t give me an address—that’s a ridiculous mandatory field. The app will email me that my claims have been denied but I can’t see information on the app, must go to website, only for there to be no information and to have received the message in error. The last two reimbursement requests I made after completing all the fields popped up errors. It is an absolutely horrendous app that needs a serious overhaul..KayOrcaVersion: 5.3.0

I just updated to the most current version of the app today. How are your developers able to make the app WORSE than it was BEFORE?!
I’ve sent feedback here, through HealthEquity website, on the phone and via email, to please fix the app, it’s been almost 5 years!!! Why can’t you just make the app work? It’s slow, it crashes, and now it tells me my login credentials are wrong (same I use on the website and it works there!), and if I’m even able to login to the app, I try to submit reimbursement, it won’t let me bc it says I have $0 in my FSA for 2024. What?! You have to be kidding me!! This app is and always has been complete GARBAGE!! Your developers have no idea what they’re doing. Hire real developers that can fix this app for goodness sakes!.ThisNicknameIsTakenMehVersion: 5.3.1
Garbage app.Balance shown is incorrect and needs to have a pending transactions section instead if showing nothing until the transaction posts.
Also, don’t ask me for documentation and tell me I can upload it to the app when that feature is utterly so buggy! Error pops up when I try to save a document I’m attaching, so it doesn’t attach to the transaction. But then I see duplicate unattached documents in my documents section. When I try to use one of those while attaching to the transaction, it says document is deleted.
I miss my old insurance. They never asked me for anything and was just way more convenient all around. I still kept things and was on my honor system with medical expense. This is ridiculous. Fix your system so I don’t feel compelled to violate HIPAA and email it to you..JMAOOVersion: 6.0.1
Slow and laggyThis app looks fine but features load slowly and some of the buttons don’t work like they should. The prompt to review the app has one option - “not now” and that button doesn’t work. I have to force close the app to get past it. There were some other things like this that would not allow me to operate the app properly until I logged in on the website to accept terms, then I could use the app. The app also takes too long to load information that should be available immediately after logging in. For now, at least until these fixes are implemented, I’m afraid to make any real changes to my HSA account within the app, and will instead use the web browser..Cutt3r42Version: 5.3.2
Any positive reviews are fakeThis is the worst company ever. I work for one of the top 10 IT companies in the world and this is a constant complaint. The app has changed. It was 1999 horrible. It is better now but not concur. The problem is if you accidentally spend 0.10 cents more on an an expense that is not FSA … you get subjected to weeks of trying to copy/fax and or send checks or transfer 0.10c of money to get your card working. Every year, I make one simple mistake and then spend half a day trying to send and fax and convert documents to pay for less than $1. I. Will pay $1000 a year never to have use this service. Have you ever expensed something with concur? It takes 1 minute. This takes 20 minutes figuring obscure language none of us know …. And I’m an engineer.CornwellsbVersion: 7.1.9
Doesn’t work correctlyThis app is horrible. When I try to add documents, it says that I have reached the max of 80 unattached docs, even though there’s literally only 5. When I try to delete them, it says that the action failed. If I try to add the docs first and then attach to the transaction, I cannot select the transaction I need once prompted. When I finally am able to select the right doc AND the right transaction, it says that the doc has been successfully deleted.
For an app that is supposed to facilitate IRS approved transactions, it is beyond disgraceful. This should be a seamless, hassle free process. Pay attention to these reviews and start working on a real solution. I will limit my FSA dollars next year, simply because I will not continue to deal with this dysfunctional application..;7;8;@;”:&;&Version: 7.1.4
PainfulThe app and Health Equity’s whole reimbursement system is agonizing to use, at least for FSA. When you snap a picture of your documentation, it will often cut off the last inches. I’ve gotten used to that. But to even get there you have to let the app spin for about a full minute and if you tap too many times, you’ll have to close a bunch of open windows that pop up once the app finally wakes up. Once in, then to submit the expense, it asks for extra information that the desktop version does not. So it is much easier to use the mobile app just to take the picture and upload the documentation and then use the desktop computer for the rest of your claim.
Mercer FSA was so much easier. Hate to call out the competition but this is my experience..Brad in San DiegoVersion: 5.3.0
0 out of 10 do not recommendThis is honestly the worst app I have ever used. I don’t know where to begin with how bad it is, and I can only imagine that all of the positive reviews were paid handsomely for their reviews. I’ve had to set up a pass key every single time I try to use it and it never recognizes the ones I have previously set up. It also glitches and freezes up frequently when I am in the middle of a reimbursement. It’s not at all intuitive. It doesn’t recognize providers that I’ve added, and it doesn’t save reimbursements that I have almost fully complete completed when it glitches and freezes. I honestly think this is making my physical and mental health worse because it is so frustrating. Unfortunately, I have no other choice..StephaniefamilyVersion: 7.1.0
So many bugs, clunky UILiterally every other page I navigate to makes the app crash or hang. Submitting an expense makes the app crash, scrolling sometimes doesnt work. I continuously get white pages with nothing to do but close and re open the app. The login process is so bad, the passwords autofill doesnt work most of the time and if it does, it fills out the user name in both fields. Selecting multiple expenses to reimburse at the same time crashes the app when you click submit and as you scroll down to input the amounts, the app just start getting tired and the keyboard writes numbers in different fields. Overall definitely the worst app I’ve ever used. Not sure who gave it a good rating, but they sure haven’t used it to run through these bugs.Yz94Version: 7.1.5
Buggy and clunkyLog in submit reimbursement sometimes it shows up. Some times it doesn’t. Sometimes you get a keyboard sometimes you don’t. Sometimes you submit something three times before it shows up and it shows up twice.
I went through hassle of adding provider with lots of info so I don’t have to add it every time but it doesn’t show up later. Instead one of my kids names shows up instead. Which I suppose makes sense (in a weird badly programmed way) because when I entered my kids they didn’t show up until I restarted app, then they showed up fine.
All the time stuff doesn’t fit on the screen so you’re scrolling for basic buttons. Checkboxes don’t look like checkboxes so you end up missing stupid things you have to check every time “yes send the 5th thing I’m getting a reimbursement for to my checking account, just like the prior four.”
Stupid “I agree” checkboxes all over the place that don’t look like checkboxes.
Desktop is much easier. Still has some stupid stuff but at least it seems tested and like the people who designed it have actually used a desktop computer..Jason MarkVersion: 5.2.6
QA A/B testing...I think notStephanTX214 said it best, I couldn’t phrase it better myself considering his review and his comments on another 5-star review (HOW IN THE WORLD, btw).
The old app was an absolute crapshoot but it kinda worked and was MUCH more streamlined than this new version. The providers storage/logging/database (idk what to call it cause it never worked) has never and still does not store information on previous providers that would make it much easier to submit claims. Most folks see the same care providers...I, for one, LOVE entering the same information over and over again for each claim.
I can’t even begin to describe how much of a step backwards the new app is...
1) Cluttered UI
2) Terrible user journey to submit a claim
3) Terrible user experience
4) What’s a pop-out? (Sarcasm) This is the most outdated component I’ve seen.
5) Throw all the information you can at me, in tiny font. Yes, it’s productive for me to look at. I get lost in the sauce of my HSA every time I open this app. It oozes with creativity, and practicality. The streamlined nature of it is truly remarkable.
Do you guys do ANY SAT/QA/A-B testing? Surely, NO ONE would’ve chosen this new layout over the old. Jeez o man this is a shameful development shop..MBRO95Version: 5.1.0
Confusing to ManageFunctionally, I love using health equity for the investment side of my HSA. For what it’s actually supposed to be used for, (health payments) I find it to be extremely confusing and buggy.
It’s not clear how expenses, documentation, claims, payments, and reimbursement actually work together. I’m scared that I won’t have documented a payment/reimbursement correctly and that I’ll face issues with the IRS down the road because of this.
The receipt capture part of the app is also not very helpful. When taking pictures of receipts, it ends up trying to crop them in a “square” format that cuts out a significant part of the original image. When have you ever seen a square receipt??? I certainly haven’t ever seen one..Dolphin2450Version: 5.1.5
Just not goodI do not understand how this app is rated so highly. Simple things like capturing receipts and submitting claims just don’t work. Simple workflows are convoluted and buttons look like simple labels. Whomever designs this app either hates their customers or just doesn’t understand good UX design.
All of this is applicable if you can even get the app to work. Submitting expenses causes freezes. Eventually it starts to ask you if you want to remain active and even if you say yes it keeps popping up asking. Eventually it logs you out and you lose everything. I haven’t been able to submit one reimbursement via the app.
Please spend sometime testing this thing before you push it out for people to use. Folks funds are locked behind this garbage. Do better..Sefo[w]Version: 5.1.15
Displeasurable to use this mobile applicationRequired to use based on my place of employment. The app itself has been & still is a challenging and frustration experience. Document upload consistently communicates as failure, which then drives you to go to the PC to access their website when then takes the documents properly. Then because of security requirements and the app itself being dysfunctional, you have to go back and forth between the mobile and website to login. This has been a consistent issue since having to use this mobile application. Please fix your document upload so individuals can comply with IRS requirements! Sincerely, a frustrated user!.Summerluv2009Version: 7.2.0
Had to call customer support to reimburse expensesApp doesn’t support Apple passwords auto fill in. Also couldn’t use app to reimburse my medical expenses.
iOS 26.2 iPhone 17pro
I couldn’t figure out how to reimburse myself with a new provider. I added a new provider. I selected new expense. I entered the expense amount. I selected the new provider. I attached a photo of the receipts. Then I was presented with two options. One option was to save and exit and the other option was to save and reimburse. After selecting save and reimburse, the amount shown was zero instead of the reimbursement amount that I wanted. I ended calling customer service and they submitted my request for me. We’ve even tried walking through the App steps again, but couldn’t get it to work..HighcntryVersion: 7.1.3
Sign out issues = Frustrating supportHaving a live chat with support is very difficult in this chat — you’re logged out after 5 minutes. It always takes at least that long for a customer support employee to get to you and look up your problem. Why sign the user out after only five minutes!? You have to go log back in, tap on the button on the bottom right, tap Support, wait for page to load, then tap “Live Chat”, and then you’re back to chatting (30 sec. after all that… 4min30sec remain). Additionally, when you first start a chat - there’s a bug where you can’t even type anything. The fix is to jump out of the Support page and relog in, and tap Live Chat. Again, that shouldn’t be happening..RyanittoVersion: 6.4.0
App is difficult to work with, but not as difficult as the companyThe app looks nice and easy, but the functionality is anything but. When you press on a button one time and then go back and press it again it’ll take you to a separate screen. When you try to upload documents for expenses there is always an error message to where it doesn’t work, or it will delete the document itself. Even after having the app for 5+ years, I still have to call every time I need to attach a document. Speaking of documents, you need the everything including the blood of your first born to just be able and have a $10 charge approved.
I hate the company and app, but I’m forced to work with them.
Zero stars if I could.SounderPeakVersion: 6.4.0
