No thank youIt was easy to download and pretty straightforward: you have to record for at least 10 seconds then you upload the recording, and then it tells you one bird can hear and then you can choose to save it into your albums. However, you do have to pay a subscription either for a week or longer. It’s not much but there are other apps that are much more user-friendly and don’t cost after purchase. Not too impressedThe reason that I’m not very impressed is several reasons. I subscribed to the app and called up my first bird. I was excited that I had recorded a fish crow. The sound recognition was great when I listened back to the recording. It was much more amplified than I was hearing in person. However, it had me make a collection, which I promptly named “birds on my deck” I thought “oh this is great!” Then I paid for this subscription. I can no longer find anything. No collections, not even a record of what I have just listened to prior. You’re just starting all over again every bird as if it is the first, and you do not have a local collection of any kind. Asking me to subscribe to the service I’m already paying forAfter using it for years, now it asks me if I want to “speed up” the identification- (no other alternative) then takes me to a sales page asking me to subscribe to the very service I’m already paying for. I did not receive a reply. My experience went back to normal for awhile. Now the problems have re-occurred. Useless Free VersionThis afternoon the app allowed me to identify one bird, an Indigo Bunting, with 91% accuracy. It also identified the same bird sound in a second recording as a Great Horned Owl, with 0% accuracy, which makes me wonder if it randomly assigns percentages and bird names. It was definitely NOT an owl. After these 2 experiences, when I tried to record an actual owl about 7 hours later it only prompted me to upgrade to premium. Mistook this for another much better appI purchased this thinking it is the same one my husband has and loves. It’s not. It only identifies 1 bird rather than showing all that it captures in one recording. I am in NZ and when I just used it, it said the birdcall is the Wild Turkey. Get Merlin Bird ID insteadMy first impression was searching for a herring gull, and photos of a common chiffchaff showed up for some reason. I couldn't choose the area I was located in either. Most people can't even afford five dollars a week. I’ve been using Merlin for years, and I am even a patron for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and you get far more information for way cheaper.
