Such a beautiful, but slow-paced game

This game is unlike any other game I've ever played. For perspective, I enjoy the loneliness of games like Fallout. I even enjoy the slower pace of those games, but this takes slower pace to a new level. Most of that is due to the long cut scenes, which you can skip, but I feel like you're missing out on the artistry of the game if you do that. At one point I'd been sitting still for so long that my wife said, "Are you watching a movie? I thought you were playing a game." The gameplay itself is great! I'm playing with a controller on my iPad and Mac. The graphic details are amazing, and the sound effects and music are spot-on. This I've had some crashing issues on my 11" M1 iPad Pro. My M1 Mac Mini does fine. I've tried propping up my iPad so it has good airflow around the back with no case, and that seems to be better. When the iPad is in the Magic Keyboard, it seems to crash more frequently. More T&E needed to solve that unless they release an update that addresses that.

One of the best pieces of media ever made

This game is so absurdly good. It works surprisingly well as a mobile game, with the ability to do a few quick missions to gradually rank up your character and reputation with different bases in quick gameplay sessions. I put off playing the game for years, because the idea of a game about being a delivery man sounded so lame, even if it was from Hideo Kojima. Turns out, it is so much more than that. It has one of the most interesting worlds/settings of any piece of media I’ve experienced, an amazing story with great characters and plot twists, tense stealth and horror mechanics, and fun combat. Yes, you do mainly deliver cargo and set up Internet connections between a bunch of bases and bunkers, but it is the most engaging thing I’ve ever done in a video game. The way the gameplay evolves as you play and changes the ways you can make deliveries make it so addictive. Somehow, this is Hideo Kojima’s best game, and it plays surprisingly well on mobile. I am on a 16e, and the performance is really good. It feels like a pretty steady 30fps while on foot, with some drops while using vehicles, but nothing annoying. The more cinematic boss battles with lots of tar and BTs got pretty choppy, but it never affected gameplay or got in the way of the fun I was having. Easily the best thing you could possibly buy on the App Store.

Very well made game

If you would have told me 5 years ago that and iPhone and/or iPad would be able to run AAA games like this, I would have laughed and walked away. Here we are in 2024 with one of the best titles available for exactly those devices. I’m blown away at how smooth my M2 iPad pro 12.9 inch runs this game. I hear many complaints about the clarity of the game on both iPhone and iPad but lets get really people, this game is running on devices with nothing but passive cooling to keep your devices from vaporizing. Sacrifices must be made to achieve this goal and I must say Kojima Productions have done a beautiful job. I really hope this game starts the trend for more AAA releases on IOS and Mac OS. The one complaint I do have is with the virtual controller, I find it very hard to use so I use a PS4 controller instead, which I prefer anyway. That said, I’m really not sure how you can do the virtual controller better without making it harder to select the correct action you want. Keep up the great work and I look forward to future titles landing on IOS and Mac OS.

Beautiful & Cinematic

I’ve somehow kept myself from knowing much about this game until now. And with the rain falling outside, this beautiful and eerie adventure seems a perfect vibe for right now. So far the story is very compelling and the way it’s told is stunning and cinematic, even on my iPhone 15 Pro Max. The music and score fit the mood perfectly. And the challenge of traversing the landscape is the exact slow pace I’m in the mood for. Plus, when moments of tension arise, the juxtaposition feels even more intense. My only issues so far have been when installing. It kept pausing saying I was out of memory despite having 135 free GB before installing. Thankfully when I just hit A a few times and continued installing a few times, it eventually finished. Having the prologue be free might entice more people to try this and persevere through the game’s huge download/install. Glad I kept at it overnight. This is going to be a story that stays with me, I can tell. Especially, right now as America faces an unknown future.

Needs a Apple Arcade Game Store Treatment

This game truly shows what Apple Silicon is capable of! It's a technical marvel to see it run on everything including an iPhone. But where Apple has let us down is presenting it on the weekest digital market place avaiable, which employs no supportive features for gaming what so ever. It's time to break Apple Arcade off as a stand alone app, give it it's own store and make it a true gaming platfrom akin to Valve's Steam game store with features gamers need to manage our games and connect with other players. I bought this game simply to show that there is bourgeoning interest in gaming on the Mac, but until Apple is able to create a gaming platform and store seperate of the abismal Mac Store I'd rather continue buying my games on Steam. I'm sincerely hoping that these relationships with AAA developers is also driving a new game platform in the background and that we'll see something this year at WWDC. That will be when Apple has truely turned a corner. Great work on this game! The future is bright!

Graphics + Keyboard Controls

Overall, the game feels amazing and l’m really glad they brought keyboard and mouse support but there are two things l’m hoping they can bring to make my review higher, 1. Keyboard and Mouse Ui issues - l’m so happy a triple a game has come to the iPad and with the add on with keyboard and mouse support. I wish all the Ui in the game can show all the controls when the keyboard is connected because l’m having a hard time trying to figure out what controls are what 2. Graphics - I’m playing on the M2 version on the iPad and some scenes in the game from just standing out in the mountain and other parts of the game just makes everything looks so low resolution. I also hope we can get a option for a graphics menu to hopefully see that we can make the resolution a little better but l feel like the resolution is sitting at 720p at some scenes in the game Overall, the game feels amazing and l love the work they done and l’m hoping the bring more of their games to the App Store

Controller Vibration Support Please

I loved the concept of this game since its launch. I have always wanted to play it for myself but my old computer wasn't powerful enough and I gave up on it when I was gifted a MacBook. When I realised that it was going to be ported to the Mac App Store, I was overjoyed and bought it as soon as possible. It works exceptionally well for an Apple Laptop with no active cooling. However, I feel like I am not getting a proper experience because there is no vibration support for the controllers. I used a DualSense controller, DualShock 4 controller, and the Xbox Series Controller with no avail. Also please tag the Apple keyboard bindings within the game. I slightly confuse when I see "alt" until I remember thats the "option" key. The review would be a genuine 5 star unless for these small issues. Thanks a lot for the port!

Handheld Dream!

I have been a huge fan of Handheld gaming since the 1990’s, and it was an amazing ride from the Gameboy through the PlayStation Vita. Sadly, we hit a wall for the last decade. However, what Kojima and Apple have done here has brought it back in full force. I have been playing this game on and off since launch on my iPhone 15 Pro Max, and I just picked up a Mac Mini M4, and have been continuing my journey there. I beat the game originally on PS4, and it was one of my favorite titles of the generation. Just this month, I picked up something that brought the handheld gaming dream back into a full reality, and it has me playing this game every day at lunch, like I did with my handhelds all through school and my first decade at work. The OhSnap MCON, turned my 15 Pro Max into the device that finally made my iPhone into a true Mobile AAA gaming machine! Now I am back to reconnecting America, and making deliveries 24/7! Death Stranding is a perfect game to hop into and make progress in short bursts once you are in the thick of it. I will be continuing to play this game for years to come on future iPhones and Macs. I would highly recommend the game to anyone who loves building worlds, helping out others, and exploring beautiful vistas. Remember, this is buy once play everywhere, so if you have an iPad, MacBook, Mac Mini, or Mac Studio, you can play when, and where you want. Happy Porting! Like!!!

What a time to be alive to have games like this on your phone

I would like to say the graphics are top-notch fantastic. If you will still surprise you can do this on the phone these days the controls are great it’s only been two hours and I’m really enjoying it. This is the soul reason I returned my iPhone 15 Pro and went for the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which is the first max I’ve ever owned, my very first iPhone was a 6S then from the six I went to the A+ from the iPhone 8 Plus. I went to the iPhone 11 to 12 to the 12th to the 13th to 15 and then a 15 pro and the 15 Pro max just for this reason it takes a little battery but nothing too bad if you sit there and play for eight hours probably gonna change everything but a couple hours here and there it’s perfect great job and can’t be depressed at 20 bucks which president evil four should have been as well, but that’s for another review

Plays flawlessly on my MacBook Pro M3 Pro

PS five quality graphics is smooth frame. It’s great to play this game on the go because I basically bought more expensive expensive MacBook Pro so that I would have a steam deck like experience on it so I sold my steam deck and put that cost into the MacBook. Thank goodness it worked on this one. I hope the Apple gets more AAA games, specially from Sony, just to stick it to the Xbox so hopefully Apple keeps trying to push report. Oh well, we will see. For now it’s cool and thank you developers for doing this. that strand is a bizarre work of art that’s unforgettable. It takes huge risks in storytelling and game dynamics, and that should be commended an age where everything rips off whatever the current flavor of the weak is getting so bored every game having quest and then side quest and then more side quest. Anyway, thank you again. Have a great day.

Simply Amazing

I am not going to review the gameplay as this is a port and numerous outlets and people have already done this. I will say the game might not be for everyone but I am thoroughly enjoying I! And for $20 for both MacOS and iOS, it cannot be beat. I would recommend either playing with a game controller or bluetooth mouse and keyboard for the full experience. Now onto gameplay. I have noticed some reviews of people saying they had download or or playability issues but I have had 0. I am playing at max graphics setting on an M1 Max MBP and the game is stunning. I have not run into a single frame drop, glitch or crash in over 6 hours of gameplay. Thank you to Kojima Productiuons for creating such a beautiful and unique game and a huge thanks to 505 games for bringing this stellar AAA title to mac! Please bring more like it.

Mixed emotions

I am beyond happy this game is available now on iOS. The music and beauty of this game shine through, especially on a mobile platform. A few complaints which honestly do not detract from this game. First, the virtual control system is a bit cumbersome and hard at times to do multiple things (RT+LT+walking). It is a bit touchy when trying to map out routes as well. This could probably be fixed with an external controller. Next, my phone gets remarkably hot running this thing for longer that 10-15 minutes at a time. It also has some tendency to freeze mid cut scene or action and waits for the system to catch up. Also I’ve had a few crashes.

A deep and bizarre contemplative experience

Calling this the director's cut is appropo because there are A LOT of cut scenes with so much acting. No doubt the many a-list actors enjoyed this project. If you're a really impatient gamer who just wants to go already, you can still skip. But you'd miss a ton of story and atmosphere. In fact the cutscenes are so numerous and long that it's hard to find a place to stop and save! Acting and story seems to be at least as important as playing. The play consists, at least in the beginning, of looong, huffing runs in desloate landscapes in between managing your porter's techy pack. You have to think often and deeply about how best to manage different kinds of cargo in challenging landscapes. At least there are weird surprises and the concept is a new level of twisty body/supernatural horror that only the Japanese can bring to life. Highly recommended (though likely for a more contemplative gamer). Couple hoops to take care of: - Apparently must have much more than 80Gb of dsik space to play on MacOS (some reviewer claimed double is required to get it running). Not sure about iPadOS/iOS. - Gamer Center (which is tied to an Apple ID) must be active for app to launch.

Well done KojiPro 505, brilliant & seamless

I played the original game on ps4 in 2020, so I already know how stunning this game is and a unique experience. Wanted to have a re-run after the announcement of DS2 but I waited for DS Director's Cut on Mac. Honestly blown away by how well it's running on my Macbook Pro M2 (base model). I keep all other apps closed and it runs on very high quality graphics. Have also tried twitch streaming simultaneously for my friend to watch the game and yet my base model is handling it without issues. Shows how well optimized it is and how capable Apple's new silicon chips are (without being the maxed out models). So glad KojiPro and Apple along with 505 Games have managed this as it sets a precedent for more games to make it to Apple OS. Can't wait for DS2!

I can't believe this game runs this good (and is this good)

When this game came out, I didn't pay any attention because I do not own a Playstation. However, it looked interesting and Kojima is... interesting. I missed out. This game is incredible and I think it is a fantastic experience. The story is gripping and the gameplay is surprisingly fun and engaging. Here is the craziest part: I am playing on a base model M2 Mac Mini and the graphics are SHOCKINGLY good. I have noticed only 2 hitches in cutscenes, and playing the game is flawless. I'm sure I'm missing out somewhere, but it's well above 60 frames a second and everything is snappy. This encourages me a great deal for Mac gaming. We need more studios to take this gamble and pay off this big.

A case for the mobile app

Right out the door I’ll admit I don’t have a compatible device. Intro price was right, and the platform it’s being released on (iOS/macOS) is a feature. Hear me out. If you’re not playing on a Sony console, your only options aside from this new Apple App Store offering are PC platforms (Xbox PC, Steam, Epic). These PC versions are likely the most accessible editions, but I don’t think most consider that not all PCs are built equal. What this means practically is, if you’re playing on hardware that doesn’t quite make the quality control cut, some moments of the story could be ruined. There’s a cutscene with Mama just past Ch 4 that was somewhat ruined for me because my machine did not render her body— just her eyeballs, and floating objects she was apparently physically holding. Playing on a hardware platform that has limited hardware variables (such as any PS4, PS5, or Apple A17 or M1 equipped hardware) means key cutscenes like the one I described will more than likely be experienced as intended. The fact you get both the mobile iOS version and the macOS version in one purchase is very convenient. Love the idea of having this portable.

Soooo good

Running this on a 2021 MacBook Pro M1 16 core, 16gb ram, with a 34” widescreen curved Alienware AW3425DWM WQHD monitor w/ 180ghz refresh. I’m using a usbc-to-displayport cable to get the highest performance I can (noticeably better than the macbook’s onboard HDMI can do). I honestly thought the M1 would struggle, but this setup works so much better than I expected. I’ve never gamed on my Mac but now I’m completely rethinking that. With my PS4 game controller, it’s fantastic. And the game? Incredible. My favorite games are open world (RDR2 is the goat), so I can’t believe I didn’t play this before now. The graphics, the story, the acting, the gameplay is all top notch and so different than anything else I’ve played. Immersive af. At the current price it is a no-brainer.

Weirdly addictive game

First of all, ignore the reviews that are knocking the game for the problems with downloading via the App Store and not talking about the game itself. The game is outstanding! I'm running at 4K 60 fps on my M1 Max base model Mac Studio. It is gorgeous to look at and the Sony Decima engine is breathtaking. I thought I wouldn't enjoy this game because at its essence you are a porter running around delivering various things. However, was I wrong! There is something addictive and calming about guiding Norman Reedus around this world making deliveries. I never thought I'd enjoy this game as much as I do because I typically only play FPS like Call of Duty. Give this game a try if you're looking for somethign different.

I LOVE IT

Played this game on PS5 and loved it. But honestly, this game feels like it was designed to be played anywhere at anytime. I am close to level 300 on the phone because I can play it at anytime. The social aspect of building and creating things that could help others feels better when I play from my phone. I really hope they port Death Stranding 2 sometime in the near future. Will pay whatever it costs because playing this on the phone has solidified it as one of my favorite games of all time. Please please put DS2 on the App Store. The graphics are not PS5 level but on the iPhone screen it still looks stunning. You wont be disappointed.

Briandev96Version: 1.1.4
Impressive!

I bought this game on the PlayStation 5 and never got enough time to play it. I sold the console a while back and decided to start over and finish this game especially with the prospect of the sequel in 2025. I have a beefy M3 Max MacBook Pro and decided to buy the game again and play it on here. Let me say it did not disappoint. This game is super optimized. I am playing on 2k 120FPS with very high settings, I will try 4k later but wow the graphics fidelity and smoothness is surprising. I am definitely onboard for gaming on the Mac. We need more optimization in software and I feel that Apple’s direction and this game match that. Awesome work and will keep buying games on here.

JosephjoeljoVersion: 1.1.3
Unique game

Controller vibrates with playstation controller. I was told to put it on very easy if you want to spend less time falling down. Also you can just hold l2 and r2 to keep balance when you have heavy cargo. First 15 minutes and it is probably the prettiest game I have played on Mac and I think it’s 5 years old now. Kojima makes games that feel like movies, his biggest hit is Solid Snake, it’s known more for its story and unique gameplay. Delivering cargo is not itself exciting but Kojima knows how to tell a good story and make a beautiful game so buy it. This is not a shooter so people may be let down, but Mac doesn’t have any good shooters on it anyways really.

Great game and worth every penny…

I literally bought a new iPad so I could play this game. Love this game. First time playing and it’s quite a masterpiece. Pros kill the cons. Some people say the game is slow but honestly I don’t see that. It has its moments that may feel a bit dragged out. Won’t be on your feet for long. You’ll see. Had issues with saving and crashing in the beginning but worth getting through it. Definitely looking forward to many many hours of gameplay. If you were hesitant about getting it like me… I’m here to say it’s a must have. Must try. It’s full of adventure, exploring, and action. Promise

New Platform, Same Great Game

The original game was amazing running on my Steam Deck, but now that its on iOS portability is beyond compare. The virtual controls work seamlessly and you can tell that they actually put thought into it. The only two things that would make it 5/5 is that: it has a bug on ios where after a while of no use (and having manually saved) it appears as if there wasn't any save data but when I fully close and reopen the app it shows the continue button, and any type of graphics control on ios would be extremely welcome

Mind blowing experience

I've played this on Windows, had to see the difference on a Mac. Runs flawlessly. I can't believe how much better the overall experience is on Mac. Everything loads instantly and no matter what's going on in-game it runs buttery smooth. Most game ports are notoriously bad, but this one is better than the original which is just so awesome! I heard this runs on iOS and I believe it, especially with how well it runs on Mac. I hope DS2 is released on Mac because I definitely want to support Mac gaming, and this game is a great place to start supporting the movement!

Beautiful Game Runs Flawlessly on M1 Max Studio

That's all I'm going to say about the technical side of things - no problems, no errors, nothing. The game itself is incredible. I enjoy open world, story and character driven games. I usually play RPGs, but this one defies classification to any one genre. There are zen moments here that I really enjoy. There are times where planning my next delivery run is really crucial (making every gram count). There are times when I can engage in some Rainbow Six style assault missions (looking at you, MULEs and terrorists). There are surprises galore, especially in the cameos. One particularly caught me off guard - I was not expecting to see Big Forehead cracking horrible dad jokes! And then there are the fleeting moments such as today, which happens to be my birthday. Boy did the game have a couple of surprises in store for me! Kudos to KOJIMA and 505 Studios, thanks so much for making this game available on the Mac App Store! I am enjoying keeping on . . .

A near perfect port

For what it is at face value, this is an amazing port to make, as I played since release on PC and this is a lot better of a launch of the game. And I’m looking forward to playing through the game again! What I wish to be fixed/added is just a way to turn off the upscaler/ turn down the resolution, as I play on the go a raw 720p output at a capped 30/60 would be amazing for battery life. Asides from that, I hope this port inspires other studios to port/update their games to utilize the hopeful market of true mobile gaming.

ENABLE GAME CENTER ON MAC!!!

Could not get the game to launch at all today, finally found a post on Reddit that said the missing component was enabling Game Center in system settings on Mac. After doing so, the game runs magnificently! Really quite blown away by how well this game can run on an M2 MacBook Air with no internal fans to cool anything down. I'm sure it works better on more advanced MacBook models, but the sheer fact that it plays and looks comparable to PS4 is a huge achievement. Way to go 505 Games! You have set the precedent! Hoping for more high-end AAA games to continue coming to Mac!

Amazing AAA Game Experience

Never played this game before playing it on Mac OS. Running it on a MacBook Pro 16” M4 Max with 48GB ram. Everything maxed out get an around 100+ FPS. Use my PS5 Pro Controller and supports haptic feedback and all controller features are fully supported. Story is amazing and feels like you’re playing a movie. Great game to pass the time, very chill yet can get intensive. If you like 3rd person action games with a walking simulation element, this is the game for you and it is a true showcase on what Game developers can do for Mac if they tried and support MAC OS gamers.

Runs well, looks well, not truly a mobile experience

I love this game, I love that it's on my phone, but I am a touch disappointed that the developers didn't actually take time to implement a mobile control experience. It simply overlayed a virtual controller which makes nearly impossible to do basic things that are integral to the game. If you have a backbone it's cool or a PS5 controller but honestly I want ttipple a games to recreate the magic in a mobile setting without having to spend a hundred dollars more.

Runs great on my M1 and looks fabulous

I was hoping that this would someday be released on Mac and I was excited to see and play it as I had only heard about it before. I understand that everyone's system is different but the only bug I experienced was having to restart my mouse when switching back and forth from my PS controller. (combat is much easier with the mouse, but almost nothing else is) Kudos to all involved and would love to see more like this.

Want to give it 5 stars but having issues

This game is great to play on my iPhone. The portability and ease of access makes it easier for me to finish the game. A major issue I have is that there is a bug where the game states “now saving” and does not let me save or open options. It’s a shame because I lose progress and have to replay sections. So it makes it hard to recommend with these issues. I had this issue months ago and it’s a shame is not fixed yet. Please fix it.

Loved the game on console I got it on pc, loved it so much on pc I got it on IPhone for the go

This game can be a hit or miss for people, this was a major hit for me since I always loved anything outside and ambient from the music to the wind. It’s just such a calming game to play. Storing is complex which I loved and the way they direct the story is beautiful in my opinion. If you love just wondering around and delivering packages like me get it! Do recommend getting a controller for this like the backbone though

Beautiful

The game is visually stunning and incredibly enjoyable. It’s surprisingly peaceful, and I never imagined a console game would play so well on my phone. I’ve encountered a few minor issues, but they’re easily overcome. The only downside is the inability to manually delete save data. Since I have limited storage, I hope they’ll add this feature in the future so I can fully enjoy the game without compromising on other files. Overall, it’s an exceptional title.

A fantastic game, runs great! (M3 Max 64Gb)

This game runs amazing on my system. I have sunk many hours in this game on PC when it was released but to have it on my Mac and for it to have such great performance, all running native to the system is great on the go. Thank you for this port! ✨ I would love if DS2 can run natively on mac in the future too! 😏 Note: For those who said they couldn't launch it, I had a similar issue, all I did was go to System Preferences -> Game Center and I signed into my Apple ID 😄

All Fixed!!!!

After incredible frustration of only being able to plat 5-10 mins before the save bug would force me to restart, the new update with a iphone reboot seems to have fixed this incredibly annoying issue. played 90mins no save problem. I had the problem with 100’s of gigs available on icloud, so it wasn’t a space issue. just glad its fixed cuz its an awesome game on console, should be here too.

It has keyboard and mouse support

Don't listen for a moment to any negative reviews. People who say the game is slow or lags lack a basic understanding of technology. I'm playing on an M-series iPad that can actually handle the graphics on max settings, and it slices through it like butter. What a beautiful game. AND it supports keyboard/mouse FULLY. That's normally a deal-breaker for me. Love this game, easy money to give to a dev that cares about making quality products instead of more gacha cash grab nonsense.

AAA gaming - great game, great port

This runs like butter on my 14" M3 Max. The atmosphere, music, environment is all gorgeous. This is a fantasic experience and kudos to the developer for makign this available on both Mac, iPad and iPhone. This is really the future of gaming and demonstrats what a great gaming platform the Mac can be. I hope to see many more games like this. Being able to start your game on the mac, then save and pickup right where you left off on your iPad or iPhone is fantastic. I hope this developer releases more games for the Mac like this. I also have access to a gaming PC and this is the first time I've chosen to play the mac port first and do not reregret the decision. Great game, great port.

Run great on M2 Macbook Air: Robust 30 FPS with: * VSync On, * 30 FPS cap, * Every Graphic set to High, including Shadows, * MetalxFX Temporal on Ultra * HDR turned On for capable monitors. The best way to go IMO, with DualSense a controller. Huge thanks to Kojima Production and 505 Games, Inc.!

What a beautiful game…

Not exactly my style of game, but i like to encourage non “in-app purchases” games (except i’ll buy DLC as well), so i bought this one just for that, seeing the beautiful graphics (no block or pixels game for me, thank you). It is a little too complexed for me, with lotsa command-controls to remember, despite the excellent GUI. And it is NOT just about fighting either, which is a darn nice change from other games. The movement controls can be a little finicky at times, but overall, short of one crash, the experience has been really good. Running on a iPad Pro (12.9-inch) (6th generation). Congrats 505 Games!

Ever Gonna Update The Game?

First off, I think it’s incredible that we live in a time where an amazing game like Death Stranding can run on a PHONE, but since the release for the A17 chip, there have been many advancements in the hardware. The game runs much better than at launch, but still looks quite blurry, due to not updating the game to take advantage of the newer A19. Update the game, please! Add some settings to tweak the resolution/graphics! You’re charging 40+ dollars for an unoptimized game for the current gen of phones/ iPads.

I hope more AAA titles like this come to iPad. Game plays great on M1 iPad Pro 11 inch(16Gb RAM) with only occasional frame rate drop and a couple crashes. I appreciate that with a PS4 DualShock 4 controller all tutorials and button inputs reflect the controller being used. Great way to experience a AAA game on the go.

I’m really impressed with this game! It runs so well and the graphics are incredible! I remember playing dead space on my iPod touch a number of years ago and thinking it was the coolest thing. Now having the full release of death stranding on my phone is bringing back those feelings. I love being able to pull it out and deliver a few packages while on the bus or catch up on the story while waiting at the doctors office. The touch controls take a bit of fiddling to get right and the save system has given me some trouble but I think it’s worth it. Your phone will get very warm playing this so keep that in mind. I do hope more AAA games make their way to the iPhone in the future.

One of the greatest games I’ve ever played. I was moved to tears!!!!

I’ve been wanting to play this game since I was 16 years old. Back then, I didn’t have a PS4 or a capable PC. Years later, when it became available on other platforms (Mac), I finally got the chance to play it. This game was such a captivating, strange, and powerfully gripping work of art. The gameplay was incredibly addictive, delivering packages was cathartic, the combat was tense, and the narrative was so emotionally impactful. It resonated deeply with me. There were a few cutscenes in the game that made me tear up, seeing myself within the characters and world - especially as someone who was born 3 months prematurely at just 1 pound 6 ounces, I live a little differently than most people. I’m so excited for the sequel from Hideo Kojima and I can’t wait to play it on Mac! :) Thank you to everyone involved for all the hard work and passion!!! 💛

DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR'S CUT Negative Reviews and Ratings

Wow!

This game is a 5 star that’s a 3 for reasons which should easily be fixed. I’m anticipating these being addressed but it’d be nice to have some communication from the devs. I’m shocked this is on an iPhone. Some people have reviewed this and said it doesn’t look good. That’s untrue. Generally it runs and looks great! Here’s what it needs: 1. Crashing must be addressed. I have to save the game every 2-3 minutes because the game goes through areas where it crashes a lot, then moments where it’s fine. Auto save every few minutes would help. The game needs graphics settings. I prefer lower graphics without metal fx because I don’t like upscaling blur. Please provide us these options similar to how resident evil did. TLDR: looks great plays great, those clowning on it are wrong. -Crashing is an issue, goes through waves of crashing, then none, then crash again putting you way back to a previous save/location. -need auto save -need graphics options, not all like metal fx upscaling. Opinion: If those needs are met this is 5 star. If not, and crashing doesn’t get fixed, it’s a cool demo of a17, and fundamentally unplayable in the long term, all while being disappointing to us who want mobile AAA to take off NOW :) Please devs, fulfill its potential.

2% Chance of Working

The first paragraph of this review is strictly for the developers at Kojima Productions. Death Stranding is a beautiful game that feels like a movie at times while touching on key themes like existentialism, community, good vs evil, and humility. I’ve played it on my PS5 and now on my Macbook. It’s the sort of game you can come back to play again and again which brings me to my next paragraph. My second paragraph is for the criticism of 505 Games and whoever else ported this game to mac and the absolute mess you all have created. When I click to open the app it barely works, and when I say barely I mean that most of the time the app never opens, it bounces once and just sits at the dock only to end up (not responding). I have found guides online claiming that you must be logged into game center within your mac settings for the game to open. I’m not sure why that is but it’s irrelevant as I can assure you that is not my problem and I’m already logged into game center. And after my 10th problem report to apple, I have decided to warn others here because this is absolutely ridiculous. I decided to run my own test to see how unreliable the booting of this game is and it worked for me once out of 50 open attempts and force quits after my mac marked it unresponsive. If you’re a numbers person like I am, this game has a 1:50 ratio of actually opening, meaning the app works 2% of the time. Honestly a crash is no big deal, that happens with any game, and the same applies to glitches. But to not open at all is inexcusable, do better 505 Games. Lastly, I am running a 2023 Macbook Pro M2 Max with 64GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, so my computer is not the issue.

The game is good. Everything mac is the weird part.

In a strange turn of events apple is the user experience problem here. Most of the problems with the game are due to the mac and not the game itself. You'll have to activate apples "game center" registration. Otherwise the icon just displays in the lower app tray. Nothing happens. You'll have to force quit and then activate game center for it to work. Also, be advised that it's not intuitive playing this on a home TV. I use the xbox controller and it works fine but it's clunky getting the console experience on a tv with your laptop. Sometimes the game has the white app top bar other times the screen just goes black and I have to touch the mac mouse pad to "wake" it up. This might be due to my energy saving/screen settings. Basically I sit with the laptop half open and the screen blacked out connected to an hdmi to my 4k tv ready to stirr the laptop when the screen goes black. I want games on mac to work but I'm coming from consoles not PC's. It's a little more fuss than I'd like right now but the game seems to be worth all that. I'm sure apple could make the game vibe right it they tried.

Game Saving Bug Ruins The Fun

Amazing game that I’ve finished multiple times elsewhere, attempting a playthrough on iPhone and it runs well enough but haven’t been playing often or progressing much due to the bug where if the network switches (common on a mobile device) or has any issues, the game can’t reconnect to online services and is then unable to save for some reason, freezing the game completely while attempting to manually save, and breaking autosave so you can be playing for a long while only to lose all of that progress. This bug has existed since the game first dropped for Apple devices. It also existed on the much more recent Xbox release (due to network syncing issues caused by the quick resume feature on that console) until it was very quickly fixed there. So I hope the same fix can be done here so that regardless of online syncing being interrupted, saving won’t be. 505 Games support directly says to simply play in offline mode and isn’t promising a fix but a major component of the game is the strand system working with other players to help reconnect the world together, so that isn’t good enough. 1-star and not recommended until it’s fixed.

VangelicoVersion: 1.1.4
Unplayable, and “support” is useless

This game has massive potential, but is unplayable due to ridiculous number of app crashes. I have to do most missions 2 or 3 times because my progress is constantly getting lost. Even attempting to save can cause app to crash. I contacted the support team and they spent a week suggesting I was running an iOS beta (I’m not) and asking if my app is up to date (it is). Then they suggest signing out of iCloud on my phone. This is a major hassle and they can’t even say if it will fix the problem. They suggest this drastic step to clear the game cache. So I keep asking them for the file path to this cache file, but they respond by telling me to reach out to Apple because iCloud storage is out of their hands. This response lacks all credulity. Apple doesn’t put files places, this app does. Apple has no idea where this game’s support files are stored, the developers should. Unfortunately, this game is simply not ready for prime time yet. In addition, the support team is poorly trained and not helpful. Save your money and skip this game until it is actually playable.

Bad_BanditVersion: 1.1.3
Stranded by endless downloading

The initial experience is incredibly frustrating and monotonous. One is forced to endure an endless, poorly drawn screen that informs them that the game will commence after downloading at least 12 GB of data. Despite the screen indicating that the download is in progress, I’ve observed a negligible amount of data being downloaded after an inordinate amount of time. This functionality should not have been integrated within the game’s framework but would have been better implemented as a standard iOS user interface that provides real-time feedback on the download’s progress. This feedback should include the network rate speed, estimated completion time, and any potential issues and their suspected causes. This way, if one needs to contact the developer support team, one won’t be left guessing about the underlying problem. Based on other reviews and the collective frustrations expressed over the past few months, it’s evident that there’s a significant issue, yet it appears that no one is addressing or caring about it.

Dxm230Version: 1.1.4
Unstable port of a great game

Death stranding on the iPhone 15 pro max Crashes with surprising reliability. It did so on launch day, and it does so now. This might be the kind of thing I could put down for a while and say the devs will fix the problem and I’ll come back to it. But there’s another problem that’s even worse. The games save system will often freeze up and not complete a save. This leaves the player pursuing lots of progress without realizing that none of it will be remembered. You will need to go back to the last successful file and try to do missions all over again. it’s so sad they couldn’t get this to work properly. I don’t know who to blame, but I will say that the version on PlayStation 5 works flawlessly. The publisher of this port on iphone, 505 games, has tried to claim that it’s a problem with iCloud save files or servers being too busy. Nonsense, I don’t think that’s how saves work in this game. it seems I wasted my money, but I’m even more worried that this is just another nail in the coffin of mobile gaming.

Awesome game, but poor adaptaion

Been 40 hours in this game. There’s nothing to complain on the game itself. It provides the same amazing experience as when I played the pc version on release. However, there’re some serious optimization issue I have to mention during my play through. 1. A seemly memory leak. As I play the game continuously, it becomes more and more lagging and then freeze eventually. None of my playing section last for more than 3 hours because of that. And I have to save the game constantly to not lose any progress. 2. No vibration on my controller. Controller vibration is such an important part in this game. It’s a pity I don’t get to experience on this edition. 3. The graphic quality drops a lot and it appear blurred constantly when I’m in accelerating mode on an vehicle. I’m running on iPad Pro 11” 3rd gen with a xbox controller.

Anton86rVersion: 1.1.2
IOS Version Suffers from Major Bugs

This is just a review of the experience on iOS and not the game itself. As it stands, Death Stranding is in an almost unplayable state on iOS. There are three major bugs to note - all of which require a restart of the app: Saving fails… often The game occasionally freezes while loading Rarely the game will CTD, or crash to your Home Screen. At best, you could go an hour or two without experiencing these issues. The game will likely save within that timeframe. At worst, the game may decide to go less than ten minutes before any one of these issues occurs. To make matters worse, if saving fails, you won’t know that the issue will occur until you make it to your destination. That means for every failed save, you’ve got to make the trek again. If you decide to pick up this mobile version, expect to lose 5-10% of your total play time to these bugs. This is coming fresh off an 85 hour play-through - not quite 100%. These bugs also exacerbate any issues that were present in previous releases of the game. Mostly because you’ll be constantly repeating orders. For example: if you remove an online structure blocking a critical path, you’ll have to remove that structure again. Same goes for building structures, such as zip-lines. It’s best to save after placing every structure. Overall, if you’re looking for a smooth gaming experience and wanting to pick this up, it’s best to check the patch notes for signs of these fixes and follow up by checking reviews posted after the patch date. It’s a shame, because the non-mobile version of this game is pretty great (I’m a huge KojiPro fan). And when this version is working, it works well. If the saving issues were ironed out, then it’d be a must play for interested players.

I love this game, but don’t love this port

I have beaten this game on PC and PS5 and think this game is 10/10 on both of those platforms. I even bought a BackBone controller just to play this game. That being said; I have enjoyed playing this on iPhone, until it crashes. I am playing this game on a iPhone 15 pro Max. I experience more crashes on this game than I have the opportunity to save. It’s extremely disappointing. I love this game and want nothing more than it to succeed on this platform but in its current state it’s not something I can recommend. I just got done walking to my destination after neutralizing some mules and donating to a road project just for the game to crash. I lost a ton of likes and progress. Please continue to stabilize this game and my review will change, but until then I can’t recommend anyone play this game on this platform. It will ruin your impression.

Phenomenal port, but wished it had graphics settings.

Everything you’d expect from Death Stranding is here, but with a cost to resolution and frame rate. If you’re playing this on an iPhone, you won’t even notice it because of the smaller screen. However, this comes at the cost of what I assume to be MetalFX trying to upscale the image, only for it to come out a bit blurry. The game itself will heat up your phone quite a bit, and I hope patches and optimization fixes are coming to fix the heat issue, the frame rate, and a way to implement graphics settings so I can customize the visual aspect of the game to my liking. This is a fantastic port that I can see becoming even more stable as more patches are released, which I hope continues to be supported. (Device: iPhone 15 Pro)

Wonderful looking game but it freezes

I have a 64 GB M1 Max macbook pro. The sceenery is beautiful. I have the same issue others have reported in that in certain cutscenes, The video freezes but the audio continues. The only recovery from this is to force quit the game and then continue. Currently, I am in the cut scene in my room and getting ready to take a shower. So far after 3 freezes and trying to skip the scene, I have frozen up each time making progression impossible at this time. Beautiful game but the freezing needs to be addressed. I would think with the M1 Max chip and 64 GB of ram, that it shouldn't be a memory issue. I would love a solution to the freezing issue.

Great Game, Solid on Mac but I’d avoid it if you’re on phone only.

Death Stranding is one of my favorite games I’ve 100%’d it on ps4 and my computer so I was happy to see it come to mac and ios. On my m1 mac air it runs well and is an acceptable experience for the game and on the surface the phone version seems fine too. But my iphone 16 pro has suffered from about 4 crashes so far and not even from extended play and an issue where the game gets stuck saving requiring a reboot and losing chunks of progress. I hope they can patch this out but considering it’s a niche port for limited hardware I can’t recommend the iPhone version as an acceptable way too play.

Needs better graphics options

The game runs kinda rough on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the motion blur makes it look like soup and heats the heck out of my phone. If it had better graphics options like RE8, where I could tweak what’s being demanded, I’m sure it’d be a more enjoyable experience and worth taking up half my phone’s space. Till then, that space is occupied with Genshin and WuWa.

Incredible Game, Incredibly Annoying Save Bug

This is the same game that you see on consoles with no limitations. The fact that we can play it on iPhones and iPads is incredible. It’s a very well done port. However, this is all overshadowed by the save glitch. You don’t know when it will happen, but be prepared to replay certain sections multiple times before you can actually save. It turns an amazing game into a source of immense frustration. I sometimes can’t get through a certain section unless I delete and reinstall the game. Even then, the glitch can still happen. It’s almost not worth playing sometimes because you know your progress could get wiped out at any moment. Once you seeing “now saving” in the bottom right, there is absolutely nothing you can do to preserve your current game progress. It feels wrong giving this game such a low rating, because it really does deserve 5 stars. But the save glitch makes the game unplayable. How good can a game be if you can’t even play it half the time? PLEASE FIX THIS GLITCH.

Game is unplayable in the long term as the game consistently gets stuck trying to save, leaving you unable to save any progress. 505 offers troubleshooting such as signing out of your Apple account which has no effect on the issue. Amazing accomplishment

The fact this is running on iphone/ipad is a major accomplishment. EDIT: had to come back and update my review. I previously gave this a 5 but have now updated to a 3. It’s still a marvel that this is running on iPhone. I played it quite a lot around release on iPhone and all though you had to have tempered expectations of performance on iPhone, it was awesome. Was totally satisfied. But wow, since returning they have done something to the visual settings. Might be the worst motion blur I have seen in a game on any platform. Not only does the environment get blurred - as is typical with motion blur - the ENTIRE screen gets blurred as if the whole screen is out of focus. It’s unbelievably distracting and incredibly hard to tell what you’re doing when more precise input is required. It seems like possibly the game is running more stable with more consistent FPS. Which is probably a result of absolutely nuking graphical quality. Just my preference, but I would prefer it to be reverted. Gaining an extra 2-4 fps and having it run slightly smoother is not worth it for the graphical trade off. Perhaps it would be if we saw a 10-20 fps gain. But this is bordering on an unplayable experience (previously was a completely satisfying experience)

It’s been almost a year and still the same thing. Developers, your game has a major MAJOR game-breaking problem! There are times where the game gets stuck at “Now Saving”. Players will go thru long sections or sections where we cannot save and the game will suddenly get stuck in the middle of a save! It’s been almost a year and you guys are a multi-million dollar company. How are you guys not prioritizing this? How many times do people need to post on public forums for you guys to resolve this? Pretty embarrassing especially coming from a company as big as yours.

Takes up too much space

107gb. Waaaay too much space, this is more space than it takes up on PC and PS5. Not sure what’s up here.

Non-stop crashing on M4 Pro

Game crashes and kernel panic M4 Pro MacBook Pro, it reboot back into the game and work for about 20 or so minutes until you to bring uptime menu and it will crash again. Changing graphic settings will also freeze and instant reboot. It doesn’t seem to crash on the iPad Pro but I think I’m going to submit a refund request if I can’t play on macOS.

Unplayable

Very important to know before you buy: the game has a huuuuge lag in later stages of gameplay on M3. What I mean is you tap on W, Sam starts to continuously walk roughly 8 seconds later, you tap on S, he switches direction in 5-8 seconds. Its impossible to make him stop, even if he falls. At this point obviously you can't really do much in the game

Beau graphiques

Mais ma souris ne fonctionne pas. Impossible de faire bouger la caméra, le clic droit ou gauche, ou la roulette. Très décevant.

Groundbreaking game comes with technical issues

The game is awesomely epic on hard difficulty. The fps/crashing/game restarting upon exiting page, game-locking autosave issues (the worst!), and super unconventional touch screen controls is moderately overlooked by how fun and engaging Death Stranding is. The first time killing a BT is exhilarating. Definitely something that people need to experience. I absolutely recommend this game, however, seeing its technical issues persist on my iPhone 15Pro Max, I’m reluctant to recommend it to everybody on IOS — especially not somebody looking to use touch controls on a smaller screen. Note: game download is very large. It’s the full PC download size — literally an AAA game in the palm of your hands. The download procedure deserves a download speed indicates, an estimated completion time indicator, and the ability to select download packs for download flexibility. The game will be under 2gb for the game icon, where you’ll download 12gb to play the intro, and then download the rest. Since the download is in-game, it is unclear if the download continues as the app is in the background while doing other things.

Unplayable on M1 iPad Pro

The game was advertised to work on M1 IPad Pro, but it was an obvious fraud. The game crashes on graphic intensive areas. It lags severely, and the touch control layout is more than horrible. The game itself is a good game though! Just don’t buy it on this platform.
