Frostpunk: Beyond the Ice Positive Reviews
Game is goodGame is surprisingly good and it holds up well compared to the PC version. Has the tech tree, the law tree and expeditions which gives depth and variety as well as some longevity. I spent a couple bucks to get started on storage. My only gripes:
1. Game is surpisingly easier with surplus of resources (at least about 3-4 hours in) which deviates from PC version that is much hardcore which leads me to my second gripe which is..
2. You cannot fail. This is the sole mission of this game on the PC version. You can essentially fail with poor law management, city layout, and resource management. Its funny when i open the game (or let it run for a while), be at 0 coal, citizens freezing and the game not ending. Difficulty slider and hardcore mode is the bread and butter of this game, which they shouldnt have taken out.
3. There are plenty of citizen requests in this game, which on paper is good. But it is way too many. I understand the game needs some sort of engagement for mobile gamers which are vastly different from PC gamers but still, it is way too much and i find myself constantly spamming crafts and fulfilling citizen requests which becomes a bit of a chore (akin to something like cookie clicker).
Overall its a good game just needs some more polish and a bit of the PC formula to bring back what essentially makes Frostpunk what it is, a hardcore survival city sim..SkyylyfeVersion: 2.1.3
Incredible Port!! Played this on PCI’ve been playing Frostpunk for over 2 years now and I’m a big fan of 11 Bit Studios since the start and I must day this is an amazing port that the devs has collaborated to work on!! Absolutely love the aesthetic and is true to the original gameplay on PC! Some things are different which is expected for a mobile game but they are easy to navigate. I still however prefer the original mechanics on PC but that is just my preference and this mobile version is definitely a must get regardless!! Keep it up developers!!.MasterAzfarVersion: 1.2.2
Great potentialPlaying this game for about 3 months, the graphics and a general idea are probably the best of this game
However looks like developers stopped further investment in this game, lack of social game such as clans, team missions etc. few bugs that exist for a long time without been addressed such as cemetery that once it full nothing can be done, or rapid rails that has no real purpose
I hope to see some further development of this game.Serik_101Version: 2.1.3
So far so good but music & error 253??Can we please play our own music when playing the game?? As a PC game.. fine. But it’s an app now and switching between having the music stop every time and have to restart is so add on depressing and annoying actually. Please open the ability to play your own phone’s music when playing!!!!!!
And wth is error 253?? Always login problem but signal is top!! Everything is working Game Center logged in..Mango SaladVersion: 1.2.2
ProblemsI love this game! However, it suddenly won’t load. It goes to about 35% and just stops. I’m missing daily rewards. My city has over 900 residents and lots of upgrades on buildings. I’ve restarted my iPad and am afraid to delete and Reinstall because I don’t want to lose my progress..MomnclosetVersion: 2.1.3
Short review from someone who has played on PC and PSThis port works unbelievably well, the devs have always cared about there players but to port a game like this to mobile takes skill, and kudos to these amazing devs; and also, devs if your reading this and just people in general, remember, all of you are amazing, never forget that..A1 duckyVersion: 1.2.2
An Amazing Survival/City-Building GameThis is one of my favorite Survival/City Building games. You take on the blizzard and run a generator to keep your citizens warm and working, and have to collect and manage resources to survive the cold. It’s such a neat concept and I love it, definitely give this game a try, as well as the console/PC versions of you want a real challenge..XDeexerxVersion: 1.2.2
Obviously the main game is better, but this has potential.I can’t even assign enough jobs to people since there’s a limit on how many workplaces I can build, however, the game wants me to keep upgrading houses to get more people to move in, which consumes more food.
You shouldn’t have to keep tapping resources to pick them up, it should be stored automatically.
It’s pretty dumb that you have to keep assigning workshop orders manually, instead of producing an item continuously.
You should be able to trade basic resources with other settlements.
Lastly, I kept playing until the tax office stopped collecting taxes, for an unknown reason.
It is cool that you can dig holes in the snow by tapping on it tho..Skinny PancakesVersion: 1.2.2
FINALLY!!!Idk why it took so long for this to hit the App Store!!! WAITED SO LONG!!! Love the game so far. My one suggestion would be the road building is a bit bulky you CANT drag the size of the road you want it changes on its own but it’s usually either to long or short.Damp kittenVersion: 2.1.3
Fun game butFun game but the shilling currency is a little to overwhelming I feel like that a currency the game can do without just let us use the resources we already have instead of having to use shillings to build everything including roads only complaint but game is really cool.Texhkid77Version: 1.2.2
Great game but the 💰This port and mechanics are great, but the micro-transactions are ridiculous. I can’t really enjoy the game because I’m constantly bombarded with sales ads to purchase packs within 20 minutes of playing. It feels like the game is pay-to-win. Overall this could of been a great game, would of paid $15 if I had no in app purchases.BetahostVersion: 2.1.1
Great gameI’m loving this game so far and am a huge fan of the console edition, one thing I would say about it though is the roads should be able to be placed on connecting buildings like in the normal games. Like the roads shouldn’t take there own space to build. Otherwise great game.VanixedVersion: 1.2.2

Frostpunk MobileFor anyone that likes Frostpunk and Frostpunk 2 this mobile game is okay. If you’re really a fan of the series this game brings something different to the table. Yet it’s nothing comparable to the Pc/Console game you get the essence and the theme of it. I think this game is to be played without too much thought like somewhat of demo for the actual experience the OG pc and console versions. (wouldn’t recommend spending on in-game purchases, buy the actual games) other than that it brings Frostpunk to an other format where you need to play daily (real time) to advance in progress. It someway makes it more organic. With all of that said, enjoy this mobile game and the vibe and eventually try the real thing..Svalteus-Version: 2.1.3

Stupidly goodI’ve never had a game sucker punch me so hard. I’m pleasantly surprised to say that this game is fantastic. The graphics are on par with some console games, the progression system is enjoyable, the economic and societal complexity is manageable, and most importantly they gave you context.
All arrows point to the developers truly enjoying their project and I’m here for it. Honestly worth a lot more money than I paid (it’s free).999upsdVersion: 2.1.3

Frostpunk: Beyond the Ice Negative Reviews
19th century steampunk aesthetic, Stone Age UII want to like this game. But I just spent 20 minutes trying and failing to find a particular building in my town of 40 buildings total. It shouldn’t be this hard. Part of this is because they look so similar and dark I feel like I’m trying to guess the building I need based on the number of windows it has. But I get that the aesthetic it’s important in a game like this, so I would excuse it IF the game made it remotely easy to find anything, which it does not. There are a ton of menus that do a poor job of showing everything they do from the outside, and take way too long to get out of. The buildings that do something other than house your citizens have icons above their roofs when they’ve produced something, and they’re supposed to have an icon when there’s an option, but it’s so, so hard to tell which building is your crafting center and which is house #3F.
The specific example that led to 20 min of frustration: I got some flares from logging in. They take up valuable inventory space, so I wanted to use them. The building that lets you do that is supposed to have a firework icon when they’re usable, but it didn’t. And you cannot. Tell. The buildings. Apart. Without that.
A recommendation for what would help for this would be some sort of search function for existing buildings that listed them by name and resource instead of having to use the map all the time.
As it stands, this game isn’t worth my money, and it isn’t worth the time it takes to get anything productive done..CaughtinatrainofthoughtVersion: 2.0.4
Yet another fantastic idea…ruined with micro transactionsJust charge us for the game upfront AND LET US PLAY. It’s a FANTASTIC game, I’ll buy the content packs, I’ll buy the extra content — but build queues, micro transactions, tapping the screen like an animal to get more coal…and waiting??? Come on guys. Countless games have been ruined with strategies like this. The is whole paradigm is beyond broken, yet everyone copies it hoping to find the next whale who has $1K to spend. You’ll make so much more letting everyone pay for the game and just play. Let me play the game like it was designed on Steam—strategy, thoughtfulness, balance of resources, etc. This is monetization gone terribly wrong, resulting in a total-turn-off game experience. Bleh. Happy to change my rating once you abandon this monetization approach—then you’ll get a 5. PS. On the upside the cutscenes are cool and well done. But spend some money on a better pricing strategy. Time to bring in a professional..Keeve!Version: 1.2.2
The current mechanics don’t work for mobile.I understand this game is supposed to be a brutal city builder in a freezing apocalyptic setting but the mechanic around the engine continuously burning fuel at the same rate regardless of being in game or not is insane. Fuel should not burn at all or at a MUCH MUCH lower rate when offline. Fuel/coal is slow to mine and after building up your resources to only get offline, you come back to all your coal being depleted. This and the fact that they also continue to mine while offline so that when you get back online all your coal piles are depleted or close to being depleted. And even though they continue to mine it doesn’t seem to be enough to fully build back your stockpile…. Which will only be depleted again once you log off for a few minutes. In the beginning you need to level up in order to build you first buildings however there is a large slow gap to reach that point. I felt lost and also could only keep mining my resources during this time… waiting for the level up to hopefully start building the city. By the time I was able to build something MOST of my resources, especially coal, was mined up. Another issue is the level of micro transactions. I think they are using the difficulty this game is known for as an excuse to shove micro transactions down your throat. Having deal after deal popup on your screen. This level of micro transactions ruin the game when upgrading everything requires you to pay real money. It’s frustrating and leaves a bad taste in your mouth especially with the mechanics mentioned above. I think they could have done well recreating the desktop experience as close as possible on mobile and charging a money for it without any or minimal micro transaction. The game looks good visually but that’s the only good thing at this time.
The fact that there are not more low rating reviews shows that not much change will come relating to any of this. I’m surprised so many people are calling this a great experience when it’s not. I would like to try again but only when these are addressed..Mediocre47Version: 1.2.2
Statue Blueprint MessDuring a lucky wheel event I got 10 blueprints for statue upgraded. Unfortunately the upgrade uses a “steam core” which is a very rare item to obtain. Each print takes its own slot in inventory with inventory space being very scarce and expensive to upgrade. The developer for some dumb reason makes it so Im stuck with these prints and cannot get rid of them without using them effectively making my inventory unusable for reasons of the game. I expect a developer response and fix immediately and will be requesting a refund for all money spent. Do better devs.
Additionally - 52 day upgrade cycle for a mid game building (thats required) using up rss that stunt other progress. This game is broken. Dont start playing. I deleted and asked Apple for a refund..Prof_Plum83Version: 2.1.3
UnsatisfyingI have tried to enjoy this multiple times and if I can at some point, I will come back and update this review. But this feels very unsatisfying. I don’t like the idea of Frost Punk being like FarmVille. The nature of this game is one that doesn’t lend itself to this model, in my opinion.
The things I like about FrostPunk are the ethically tough choices, the ability to explore, the freedom to make horrible mistakes that require a full restart, and the different possible paths to victory. I’m not sure there’s any of that, here.
I hope you’ll continue developing the game and I hope I can fall in love with it like I have the original game, but I’m not there yet..NEAReport.comVersion: 1.2.2
Game is way too hard !!!I understand no pain, no gain… But pain on the brain so intense I would rather want to be a Guinea pig for testing at a mental illness hospital than play this… no, I’m not just trying to be funny. The game difficulty is cranked up beyond any other game… Imagine this ?? There’s only 300 gatherable coal and wood and food…. This last maybe 30 minutes of gameplay, after that, the resources doesn’t even respawn :( Better solution ?? Make the wilderness bigger, and put all 300 of each resource close to the survival tent… And, if we want to gather more stuff, respawn it slightly further away, with bigger chunks. It will still make the game brutally hard…. But it wouldn’t make the game impossible to play… Thx for hearing me out..Raquelle.JenineVersion: 1.2.2
Micro transactionsAs others have said, micro transactions galore. The gameplay isn’t strategic like the Pc game, it’s more tapping on resources and doing things you’re told to do. Compared to the thought and decision that goes into your movements in the PC game, this is more like a guided tour of the same thing with little free will to do as you like. I dislike the constant need to tap to collect resources, instead it would be nice to allocate labor. Instead of the feeling of trying to survive on scarce resources, I feel more like a cog in a machine with no autonomy or consequences. Also I dislike all the trading I don’t see what the game was going for, it’s never ending..Vince11235Version: 2.0.4
Predatory Soulless Cash GrabAfter playing this game for months, I have come to a decision. This is merely a cash grab designed to squeeze every ounce of money from its players. Unlike the incredible PC game, every part of this was designed to waste your time, make you upset, and just waste money to stop being annoyed.
There are no confirmations to spend gold and the prices are absurd. 100 gold to refresh the HEAT caravan mission. It takes months of playing to get 100 gold. It takes a few hours for the HEAT mission to refresh normally. One accidental tap and there goes months of your hard-earned gold for literally nothing. Truly a despicable company behind this garbage..疯的人Version: 2.1.3
Great game, pay to win, and buggyOverall pretty cool concept, the game is complex enough to be fun.
However, this game is verypay to win and extremely buggy. The UX for interacting with the city is very bad; for example, when trying to click a building, I would almost always click the building in front of it, or somebody asking for a trade.
The buildings are also not very identifiable on a mobile screen.
I also get generic errors like "Can't use current occupation" when trying to use a bond, while offering no additional info on why it isn't working.
Still a long way to go for production..ClarityonairVersion: 2.0.4
This isn’t Frostpunk. The game holds your hand through each purchase and little step you make, and along the way there’s… Microtransactions???
Just charge $10 or $15 for this game, please. I feel like I’m playing Hay Day in a Frostpunk-shaped disguise. I’m obviously not alone in this sentiment, and I think it would result in a better overall game. Don’t make me wait, don’t charge me real life money for parts and pieces of the game, just SELL. ME. THE. GAME. I will gladly buy the game.
Just port the PC game, that’s what everyone wants. It’s designed very well and I think it would port excellently to mobile devices because of the nature of its controls..WvrmanVersion: 1.2.2
Wanted to like this.Really tried to like this game and was willing to put up with some extra timers and usual mobile nerfing. However it’s just a slog through inscrutable systems and odd demands from the game. Your constantly pestered with “trade requests” that are absolutely at your disadvantage and the return for your time is not worth it. These in paired with the other demands to run your city are a nightmare of a UI issue, constant overlapping buttons that are opening a window that is not needed to be addressed. Overall these things next to a game with poor execution on informing the player of the strategy is pretty much unbearable unless your value of time spent it low..Ch4s3rVersion: 1.2.2
Not like the originalSimilar, but not the same. Adding harvesting mechanics like “Hay Day” is cringe for the Frostpunk brand and a quick way to turn a great game in to a ridiculous grind unless you’re willing to dish out actual cash. Also, Im the captain but I have someone telling me what to do the whole time… doesn’t make sense and is pretty annoying. I’m shocked 11 Bit actually thought this was a good idea. 2 stars because the sound design and visuals are pretty solid. It’s June now. Still nope!

It’s okay.Let’s start out and said it monetization. Why not just charge full price for the game. But what’s worst is that the game is still in early access, but there is a store. Very disappointedIt is so sad to see such a beloved game like Frost Punk take this pay to play route. I’m not asking for a free game, I’m happy to pay full price for a mobile game similar to FP1. This is NOTHING like the frost punk we all know and love. If you are not prepared to pay several dollars a session, then you will be doing a lot of sitting there staring at your screen with nothing to do. It’s a pay to play nightmare that I never expected. It is not the same developers that made FP1. We all need to make money, but this is not the way. Whoever is supporting this pay to play style of game needs to stop..JizzleGizzleVersion: 2.1.3
UnplayableI don’t know if I just happened to have uncommon glitches with this game (since every other review loved it) but this game is unplayable.
Like, seriously. It’s an awesome concept and I would love to genuinely try it, but I have to close and reopen the app after EVERY action. If I don’t, the floating tutorial finger icon just pops up over buildings constantly and I get a “buy the in game currency!” advertisement that doesn’t go away unless I close and reopen the game.
I’m going to try it on PC because I think it’s an unfortunate case of being glitchy on my phone. (iPhone 14).McKayla S.Version: 2.1.1
Good game, but buying brokenI enjoy the original game and this uses the city build to perfection. I don’t have many complaints but I noticed the daily pack is broken.
When you buy it it is discounted to $5 instead of $20. I started noticing more than $5 was getting taken so I checked and it was charging me 3 times.
I refunded the two extra payments and now I can’t get into my game. I’ve put a good amount of time and cheap payments here and there and now it seems I lost it..FultziebearVersion: 2.1.3
Ruined by daily tornadoesI only have time to play once a day. Honestly, even that is a stretch. But every single day there's a tornado that wrecks three or more of my buildings. And it costs more resources than I get during my play session to repair this.
This single-handedly completely and utterly ruins the game and makes it not fun whatsoever.
The game is actually really fun overall aside from that. The developers put some good time and effort into this and made a really solid game. But the publishers totally screwed the developers over by and totally completely ruined the game..TelfireVersion: 2.1.3

If you charged me 5,10 maybe even 15 dollars at the start I’d be willing to pay that for a good game but I am not going to sit here making micro transactions multiple times per play session. Way to take a game, literally ruin it, and then try to charge money for it. Not as fun as the real game, not nearly the same game mechanics. This is embarrassingly desperate attempt for a company to make some money. You don’t need food if this if this is what you produce with it. Nothing like the PC VersionIf you played the PC version, DO NOT expect to have the same experience. All sense of the RTS survival elements of the PC are gone. A far cry from FrostpunkThe thing I love about Frostpunk on PC/console is the strategy. There are difficult decisions to make about timing and priorities and a whole story to weave by how you succeed or (more often) fail. Instead of just charging a reasonable price for the game, they monetized everything so aggressively that you can now purchase INDIVIDUAL IN GAME RESOURCES. This is so unbelievably boneheaded it actually makes me angry. Imagine playing cities skylines, and you are incentivized to spend real money to buy individual roads in game. This is the level of stupid we are working with. Please don’t support this atrocity. Vote with your wallet for proper and fair monetization..Monsieur Sierra Echo TangoVersion: 2.1.3

Absolute garbageI am beyond disappointed with the mobile version. It is a far cry from the game quality 11 bit studio have produced. Granted it was developed by a different company but the end product truly mars both the Frostpunk franchise and equally its parent studio 11 bit. Frostpunk on PC/Mac is a true quality gem, rarity in our times. To 11 bit studios: For the sake of your franchise and brand, don’t go down this rabbit hole or you risk losing your core fan base… I am still in utter disbelief at the poor game quality with the Frostpunk soundtrack in the background. Totally destroys the game experience. Do better 11 bit studios..BillySassanVersion: 2.1.1
What a jokeAre you kidding me… create a masterpiece of a game on steam and a gorgeous sequel. And then taunt me with a mobile version of the original game that’s actually a micro transactions time wasting Piece of garbage. Actually pretty mad. Totally missed the market I would have paid to have a iOS port of the frostpunk. Absolutely trash and trying to make money off a good name..ZachGreysonVersion: 2.1.1
