One major downsideOnly rating it this high so people can see it. This app actually seems very useful and a good use of AI. However, you can only do one lesson with this app which I think is a major downside. A lot of people want to learn languages right now either because they’re traveling or they’re going to school somewhere and it’s very difficult and nearly impossible to do that when everything has a paywall in order for you to learn. if I have any recommendations for this app, I’d say do one lesson than a day similar TUIEDA. And then, if the person wants to practice more during that day, they can pay premium.
Another nice thing would be to allow the user to constantly practice the vocal words and not just allow them to practice once and then remove everything from saved vocab. Great way to practice speakingI just had my first Korean conversation. I’ve never tried talking with native speakers since I’m very self conscious of how I sound. I previously used Teuida but was not getting nearly enough conversational practice, so I tried this app and it has been amazing. You interact with the AI, it understands you perfectly, and responds super naturally. It also lets you go back and review your mistakes and gives you tips on many different areas so you can learn to speak properly.
I already feel like I’m becoming so much more confident speaking and it’s super easy and fun to use. Now, all the work I put in over the past few months feels like it hasn’t been wasted. Highly recommend even if you are also using other apps for good speaking practice..Tywood76Version: 1.0.1

For example, with this one app called Hello Talk- they start you out the first few days on a free trial of the VIP service, after a couple of days, it goes away. You still have access to the app, just limited services. I feel like this might be a good add, something where there’s at least some type of free option. Even if it just lets you do one 5 minute conversation a day, or maybe the AI is a bit slower, or something— i just wish there was a free version.

Good practice, but transcription is a bit off.When speaking with the AI conversationally, it gives appropriate responses and is good for speaking and listening. However, it has a transcription feature where you can go back and read what you said and what the AI said. My listening is particularly bad, so I'm using this feature quite often with Korean so I can go back and re-listen to what the AI had said. However, everything that I say is completely mismatched with what was actually spoken. In fact, there are times where the transcription makes absolutely no sense, but the AI's response makes perfect sense to what I had said to it initially, as if what the AI is hearing, and what the transcription is transcribing, are two totally different things. For example, the ai asked Ai: 오늘 뭘 먹었어? (What did you eat today?)
Me: 김치전을 먹었어. (I ate a kimchi pancake.)
Ai: 아~~~ 김치전을 맛있죠? (Ahh, kimchi pancakes are delicious arent they?)
But the transcription thought i said
Me: 입이 먹었어. (The mouth ate.)
Which, if AI truly heard this, would not have responded with the food that I had mentioned in my response, as there's little to no correlation between the pronunciation of the two. Overall, if you are heavily reliant on the transcription aspect of this app, I would hold off until the transcription gets better. Love it but the bugs are horribleI can say within using this app for under an hour the bugs are very much frequent and interrupt your learning quite often. Whenever you’re taking a lesson and you enter a voice respond it takes a while to calculate and suddenly kicks you out of your lessons which can become quite annoying because it doesn’t save where you left off so you must restart the lesson to resume where you’ve left off. I see amazing potential for this app and really hope the bugs are fixed I can see it becoming very popular in the future. Subscription and othersIm sure this app is a good learning app, after all, I've talked to some friends who just downloaded the app, and they said it was a fairly good experience. Useful tool with great potentialAs someone who has used MANY language learning apps and programs, I can appreciate the incredible usefulness of an app like this which helps improve a huge issue with language learners: gaining confidence in their speaking and improving their listening comprehension of the spoken language in conversation. Very good! Only one want (more hiragana)Hey there! I have to say, this is the first app I’ve ever used that honestly boosted my learning and listening comprehension. I’m currently learning Japanese here and I enjoy the structure of how it teaches you. The only thing I’d wish for is immediate hiragana translation on some of the bigger Kanji characters. However I’m on the fence as the way it is has helped me read the Kanji faster. (Maybe just the first time you see the word it’s in hiragana🤷🏾♀️) otherwise the app allows you to learn faster and listen.

Great for speaking, needs work for arabicI always saw ads for this app so I finally decided to get it. I wanted to use it for arabic. The pronunciation is amazing for an AI model, everything it has said so far is spot on. However, the text sometimes gets wonky because arabic is right to left and English is left to right. When it puts the phrases to say in arabic, they are often out of order or all jumbled up. Even a couple of times in the role plays, the text you are supposed to read versus what the ai Just told you are different. It tells you your pronunciation is wrong without truly explaining why, so you end up repeating things without actually improving. The speech recognition often transcribes me in different languages and occasionally doesn’t show what I’m supposed to say. Adding clear pronunciation feedback or just the option to come back to the mispronounced part later would be helpful. Maybe a separate environment for practicing the specific words. Really nice but freezes oftenI really like this app so far, I purchased the monthly subscription and so far it’s really helpful with lessons and grammar and pronunciation. I think the price is pretty reasonable especially with all the lessons and tools you get access to. My only complaint is that the app freezes so often which is probably just a glitch with the ai system that needs to be debugged but it’s a bit distracting and frustrating especially if you’re in the middle of a lesson or practicing dialogue sessions. Difficult Subscription CancellationI liked using the app for a few days, but the subscription process feels very misleading. The free trial automatically becomes a $100 yearly charge, and you can’t cancel it through your phone like a normal subscription. Often frustratingThis app has potential and maybe it’ll improve enough eventually. But right now it’s incredibly repetitive in the lessons and more often than not doesn’t recognize words that are clearly said. It’s really good but..I found this app really nice as you can converse with an ai and it could tell you what you said right and wrong. The problem is that I can only use it once, and then I would have to pay subscription to use it again. BuggyIt’s so far a good app, I’m studying Russian and when I ask it for explanations between 2 ways of saying something it’ll give me an informational answer. However sometimes when it asks me a question and I answer in a different way it expects me to, it completely ignores what I said, just tells me good job and moves on to something else. I love using this app but sometimes halfway through the conversation, the ai will freeze up and become unresponsive or will loop the same phrase over and over again. Still buggyIt’s great to practice speaking if you already know some of the language and grammar rules. Only thing is it tells you a good job no matter what, so it will not correct you if you pronouncing. Also the dialects of the language are set to the default accent the origin country uses, so if you’re wanting to learn with a specific dialect, you’d have to tell it to at the beginning of the lesson, but sometimes it won’t. Good at firstAt first this app was amazing. It keeps track of everything you’re learning and is really good at answering questions. To upgrade the app I would recommended closing or checking off topics/ modes that have already been completed. I would also recommended having the ‘vocab’ words be able to used to practice. Trouble Canceling Subscription + Received No HelpI reeeeeaaaally liked this app! I enjoyed being able to pick the conversation and get practice talking about things that I would actually want to talk about in real conversations that are very niche and not taught quickly in other language apps… however, I paid for 1 month wanting to give it a try but just didn’t end up using it as much as I wanted to. I didn’t mind paying for that first month as a trial but then I got charged for a second month and I feel silly but I really couldn’t find where to cancel my subscription. (I realize now that you cancel within the App Store but it really irked me that you couldn’t easily find details on how to cancel your subscription in the actual app) This may be common knowledge to other people who have subscriptions but I was surprised on the lack of info in-app.
So, I sent an email to their support email last month regarding my cancellation and I still have yet to get a reply. I just got charged for the third month, so my complaint is that I couldn’t easily find out how to cancel my subscription and didn’t receive any help regarding it. Not good for learning ArabicWhile parts of the learning experience are helpful, others are just frustrating and broken. When trying to practice vocab words, the ai listening tool just does not work. I understand that my accent is not perfect and its a gargantuan task for an ai agent to be able to pick up the nuances in speech - especially in a language as phonetically complicated as Arabic, but thats what they are selling and thats what I payed 100 dollars for. Plus I know I am saying it correctly, It will be picking up german, dutch, Korean, and whatever other language when I am just trying to say a simple 3 Arabic words. And after I give up and hit the try again button, I listen to the recording of my audio and the recording of the answer, and find I was saying it correctly 15 times in a row. Mind you my father is fluent in Arabic and he gave me the green light in my pronunciation. Why is it even able to interpret my speech as anything other than English or Arabic when thats the only languages I will be using? Education should not be limited :(I love the concept of having an actual tutor and guide in learning, and I honestly thought the app would become part of my daily German learning every day. Surprise, surprise, I should’ve expected that you only get one free lesson before you’re hit with a paywall. It was kinda disheartening, especially because so many apps are doing this nowadays. Not practicalThis app makes it very difficult to actually learn any conversation. You can spend infinite time trying to have it understand two words back to back. It would constantly correct a native speaker and even when I recorded the app saying what it wanted said and then played it back it would still try to correct itself. I never did learn any actual conversations because every conversation eventually stalls with some technicality.
This app could not even identify how many syllables a short phrase was. Often suggesting three syllables was two or vice versa. These were not problems that other language apps have, at least the three or four other ones I use.
A native speaking friend of mine could not get through one single beginner lesson without it getting hung up trying to correct him. If you need an app, that will help you develop and recall conversation, this one is not it. If you want an app where you can argue about how much pause there should be at a comma etc., then this one is for you.

No Option to Cancel SubscriptionI’ve been interested in this platform to get better at speaking a language. And the platform has been pretty helpful during the free trial. But since I don’t have it in my budget to continue, I attempted to cancel the subscription. Usually I’m able to go into the subscription section in the App Store to cancel but I couldn’t find the app listed. There isn’t even a cancel option within the Pingo app itself.
I reached out to support, and they said that it was through “Link”. But I never made an account with them nor have I received any email about Pingo from them. Inaccessible with VoiceOver (blind users)This app is not accessible for those of us who are blind and use voiceover (this allows us to navigate the screen). Although there is a workaround to set up an account and to choose a language, as well as choosing role-play or tutoring, but the true issue comes about when you are trying to communicate with the AI. It tells us to hold the button and speak but that is not accessible. I have to have somebody with me telling me where to put my finger in order to speak. This is frustrating. If we can have this button labeled as a button so voiceover will be able to successfully indicate where to press, it would be greatly appreciated.

Waste of time and money not even teaching the right languageI picked Japanese as my learning language, but when I went to study vocabulary, all I got were Chinese pronunciations of kanji. It told me “cat” was pronounced mao, that’s Chinese, not Japanese. Seriously? To make things worse, the app kept asking me to pay $14 a month before I even got through one proper lesson, and the content it did show was totally wrong. The whole thing feels like it was rushed together using AI with zero real checks for accuracy. It even asked me to rate the app immediately after I picked my language, before I even got to use it. RED FLAG Deceptive pricing practiceI was gonna sign up for the free trial (couldn’t do anything without doing this) but the price once the trial ends was NOWHERE to be found. So I decided to look up here in the App Store under “in-app purchases”.
The fact that I have to do this proves this company is OPAQUE AND DECEPTIVE. I have no problem paying for a service but you don’t tell me how much it is right off the batch, this is manipulation and deception. I refuse this game.
After reading reviews, I’m glad I did not sign up since it seems some users are NOT able to cancel their subscription. Oh how weird? Confirms the red flag on their opaque pricing strategy. You CANT TRUST companies like that.

It’s ok but seems intentionally difficult to leave trialI wanted to give it a try and it was ok - seems like I could get the same from ChatGPT. The main problem was they make it hard to cancel the trial! It’s a TRAP. it said it was going to notify before trial ends and I tried to cancel in the settings of the app and it just shows me my subscriptions on the iOS settings page and no Pingo subscription was there. Deceptive Payment ProcessI don’t find this App useful as you can only track and learn one language at a time. If you switch you reset everything. Even worse, I find the financial payment to be deceptive.
Despite a promise to remind before end of 7 day free trial, none was provided. Nevertheless,I checked my subscriptions on the App Store on day before expiration and did not see Pingo to cancel. On the day of expiration, after searching through the Pingo app I finally found manage subscriptions buried under “progress?!?!” I cancelled the subscription and was told it was effective for next year. I didn’t see a charge and it was still not listed in the App Store so I assumed it was an error or a bug.
The following day I noticed I was indeed charged directly by Pingo. I immediately contacted customer care via email and notified my CC company. It’s been 7 days and they still have not responded or even acknowledged my request.

This is so unbelievably annoyingThis app is honestly a waste of time. It's not accurate. Not to mention if the AI hears something wrong you have no way to edit it. It acts like natural conversation (how speakers actually speak) is unnatural. I was wanting to learn portuguese, but it doesn't have the correct dialect anyways. So I went to check out the spanish it has... it's corrections are unnecessary and sometimes even inaccurate. Way to difficult to unsubscribeWay too difficult to manage my subscription. They tried to send me to apple and then last resort after being on them for a few Mins through an email all of a sudden there's a website. Not accessible with voiceoverI am disappointed with the lack of accessibility with this app. It is hardly compatible with Voiceover using my Iphone. I am blind and rely on voiceover to use my iphone. I was excited to be able to practice my conversational skills since I am blind and most language learning apps rely a lot on spelling and reading. There is no reason this app should not be accessible especially consideriing other A/I apps are compatible with voiceover and also have a live speaking feature. Don't purchase Pro versionIf you want to cancel your subscription, the process is incredibly frustrating. It's hidden, and they make it difficult to access the cancellation link via email (there's no clear message in your inbox or even in your spam folder). The app itself seems intentionally designed to prevent cancellations, forcing you to go to an external website instead.

Many things aren’t goodHere’s my list of everything I immediately didn’t like about this app lol, and I truly tried to be open minded. This is keeping in mind that ChatGPT is free and can do all of the exact same things. It does not correct your pronunciation, it doesn’t even listen to you. It says “say apple” I say “I already know that” it says “great! That means apple”. Very limited voice options for the price. When I asked it to speak faster it said no because “people learn better when it’s spoken slower”. You can’t skip through parts of lessons you already know in an easy way, ie just keeps repeating when you say you know that already. When you ask it an unrelated question in a lesson it says to focus on the lesson instead. The Color lesson taught 3 colours. The shapes one taught 3 shapes. In role play not only does it not correct your pronunciation , but when you fully say the wrong word it skips right past it. Pronounces the same words differently all the time. Either gives you a bunch of filler in English like “how are you? Today we are learning ___”, but when you switch to teach in the other language it bombards you with complicated words, there’s no middle ground. When it says “say in English apple” and I say it in the dif language it goes “great, now to say that in the other language is __” and it’s like, I know, I just said it in that language. Also btw there’s no sort of curriculum like many many other apps have including Duo (which does correct your pronunciation). I honestly just can’t think of one reason to keep the app. PS. There are dozens of other AI apps that do more complicated things and don’t cost any money let alone this much. Southern VietnameseThe app does not really have an option to learn southern Vietnamese. The developers claim it does and so that's why I paid a subscription. It also constantly changes between different sounds for pronunciation. It will say one word multiple ways instead one standard way. It will say a phrase and then repeat it with completely different pronunciation of one word. The app also constantly glitches and freezes.
