XCOM®: Enemy Within App Comments & Reviews

XCOM®: Enemy Within Positive Reviews

Same feelThe game has the same feel to the PC down to the shiv 's turning into soldier bug, decal reset on many soldiers bug, and even the backwards hand flip when selecting a weapon for the soldier bug. Everything gameplay-wise is there, it even has the main story from the previous one. But you might be asking, this file size is smaller then the PC version. Well, the things removed are: many duplicated cutscene of alien autopsys and alien interigations of individual aliens has been removed, as for the textures that gave it a high detail shine(agreeable from portable playing). Another thing removed is alien encounters on the field. Many pc players would know of this one, where if you encouter an alien, say the sectopod, It would play a cutscene of you encoutering it ingame. Not bash worthy, and totally understand that scripting can cost some frame rate issues. Last is some missions are missing. I dont know if anyone else has seen these council missions where saving a president or diplomat is still in the game but with these missing missions means missing maps to conquer. However, with the enemy within comes a whole lot more maps. Other then that the game plays the same as the pc with an OBVIOUS porting for phones. Would get if you have money to burn as its not like these pay2win games... Full game outta the box. But if you dont agree to the downsizing. Would wait for a discount to appear as either way the game is worth the boredom of phone games..Version: 1.1.0

Xcom unknown vs xcom withinI originally owned the first version xcom unknown. Great game but had some stuttering bugs that annoyed me when playing. Xcom within has been a night and day difference. I'm playing on iPhone 6s Plus iOS 10.2 and seriously the loading is less than 5 seconds for me between launching the battle and being on the ground. In xcom unknown I'd sit there for 30 seconds or more. Graphics are better, controls are better, I have no issues with going up or down a level (use either two fingers swiping up/down or touch the camera icon and use the up/down icon). I'm more than 8 hours into the game with full power armor, new ships, exalt and weapons. I see the DLC for the game in the options but maps are smaller. To me this is a 9 out of 10. I love strategy and action games, this is fluid gameplay and can get really hard fast if you aren't smart with your strategy. Big difference between the two is the DLC, loading times and bigger battles with more than just aliens, humans too. But I must acknowledge that my experience is likely better because I'm on an iPhone 6s Plus so better processor (dual core) and more ram (2gb ram) than previous devices I've used (iPad 2-3, iPhone 5-6). I recommend but best experience will he with newer devices, with the DLC added this second installment was worth buying again for an experienced adult gamer; supports app switching (love I can take a call and get back into the Frey)..Version: 1.1.0

I have loved the X-Com games since the 90sThis game is great. Game system quality and I bought it even though I own it on Xbox and pc. I should have reviewed this long ago but I just don’t review things enough. The one problem I have is I can’t play the game and listen to my podcasts. I know you haven’t done any updates in forever but if you could fix that one thing it would get me to play it more. I like to learn and laugh when I play games. I can’t imagine it would be s hard thing to fix. However that is the only problem I have. It’s just a big one because it keeps me from playing it. I love the game and I end up just playing dumb games because I can listen to stuff while playing them. I know I’m just one person asking for this fix but I myself have payed so much for these games over the years. I think I’ve owned every version of X-Com made. Some I’ve owned more than one copy of. TFTD twice, Apocalypse twice, and enemy unknown for three different systems. Anyone who likes these new ones should go check out the old ones. The graphics aren’t so great but the games are awesome. Anyway thank you for the great games. I’m playing X-Com 2 on PS4 now. Keep up the good work and keep’em coming. Maybe make one more like the old school ones with a whole bunch of solders and time units. Just make it look pretty but other than that just like the old ones. Please. Anyway thanks again..Version: 1.4.0

Great game, better appI was originally very disappointed by this game. The graphics were sad, the loading times were long, and it was missing some features I wanted to see. However, I recently redownloaded it and am blown away. Both on my iphone 7+ and my 2017 ipad pro (12.9) it runs VERY well. I cannot believe how quick the load times are. Also, there are some features present that I don’t remember them having, like armor tint. I am very happy with it. One thing I would like a lot is if they would incorporate keyboard support. Being able to map hotkeys for overwatch and use WASD to move the map around would be huge, as well as a keyboard interface for troop selection and things like that. I enjoy the game but being able to use my keyboard would make this just phenomenal. I understand that is unlikely but it would be nice and I would really appreciate it as a feature..Version: 1.3.0

4000 BCLadies and gents. This is the best app out of the best apps you could ever find. I've played Xcom ever since the original game came out in 4000 BC. I'm of course not saying I'm that old. What I'm saying is that much like the great pyramids of Egypt, nothing can match its splendor. Xcom is one of the great wonders of the world. It was amazing then and it is amazing now. Right now! You complain that the controls are weird? What!? Get some better fingers people. The controls in the game are the best you can get from a mobile device machine. This takes some major strategy, some major brain usage. I suggest playing the game on CLASSIC and IRONMAN. The frustration might run slightly high when one of your faves die, but when you conquer the onslaught of alien beauties the feeling of success is like that of taking a shower for the first time after a month long hike through the hot rainforests of South America... I... I've never been... I mean I take showers... I'm just talking about the rainforests... the... you know what I mean!.. Why are you reading this!? Buy the game! What!? It's not free you say!? So what! You were gonna make in game purchases with whatever free game you were thinking about playing anyway! Buy it now and you will be on the golden road to bliss. XOXO, The Aliens.Version: 1.1.0

Has potential, but be prepared to loose everything....over and over and overSo at first I was very excited about this game, even though the tutorial left a lot to be desired regarding how to move, how to pick up things, how tough the aliens were, what to develop first versus last, and a whole bunch of other things. After playing the second time and investing a whole bunch of time, I had my entire crew wiped out in 15 minutes at the fishing village. Two enhanced heavy combat mecs, a sniper and two other support. I can see losing one or two guys, but to have your entire crew wiped out by insurmountable odds, and creatures that are way tougher than they should (zombies kill you in one hit, crustaceans spider bug thingys impervious to fire and mini cannons) who’d a thought? I don’t know about you, but if I invest 20 hours into a game only to lose all those guys, with their mods, in 15 minutes, I’m not so motivated to keep playing. If you have a life and just want to enjoy a game that you can play, learn, lose a battle and then come back to....then don’t pick this game because you will lose ALL of your hard earned progress in 15 minutes....irrevocably. Poof!! Gone!! Finished! That’s one DEAD parrot! Lol now if they ad a save feature and afford you the ability to refight a battle....then I’m back in....but until then....I’ll pass..Version: 1.4.0

All 5 Stars (EXPLAINED)1. Going into this game as my first XCOM purchase I was skeptical because of the price of the game. The first star is awarded because of the good tutorials and overall help of the game. 2. While I believe this game may be toned a bit from the original which I understand the second star is awarded for the unlimited amount of content this game offers and will never get boring 3. The third star I believe which is an expectation of any game is the smooth play that it offers. I play from an iPhone 7 and have never experienced so much as a frame skip. 4. On top of all this there is a multiplayer system which is fun as hell and adds to the overall quality of the game. 5. While most people would've stopped at 4 I will not rob this game of it's justice. It has prompted me to buy XCOM 2 on steam for $60. While there is nothing worse than losing a major in battle this is probably the most entertaining game on the App Store. I highly recommend this for anybody. I am not even into strategy games. This is my first XCOM but will certainly not be my last. Thank you for taking the time to read my review..Version: 1.1.0

Nicely done! When I first played this game on the PC, I thought this would make an awesome Mobile game because all you are doing is just clicking. That is what lead me to this game, and what an amazing job 2K and Firaxis did! It was an audacious step to bring Xcom back from the dead, and to me it paid off. The gameplay is streamlined and dynamic while still maintaining that feel that Xcom is supposed to give you. You always feel hopelessly outmatched, but it does it so that you still feel a sense of accomplishment even when retreating from a botched mission, and even more so in victory. Even in a game where there are no set characters the soldiers develop their own personality through the awesome gameplay. Even the sky ranger developed its own feel to me. However Where this game excels is in the gameplay, and although there are a few bugs here and there, they have mostly been addressed. To the developers I say well done and thanks for having the courage to market a turn based strategy to our FPS generation, but you better not slouch on Xcom 2!.Version: 1.1.0

OK port of an excellent gameIf I were to review the game itself I would give it 5 stars. It's one of the best and most addictive games I have ever played: well balanced, good graphics, fun gameplay mechanics, and more. I like it so much that I actually bought the game twice: once on iOS for my iPad mini 2 and iPhone 6, and once on my iMac. I do have to say that the iMac version is far superior. First of all, in my opinion the iPhone 6's screen is just too small for the kind of gameplay of selecting precise spots to move units in a tactical game. Secondly, performance-wise the game is just very hard on the Apple devices. In particular my iPad mini 2 (A7 processor) struggles at times to keep up with it. It doesn't affect the gameplay but it's just not smooth. On the iMac it's a very smooth 1080p experience. Third, the game can be a little difficult on a touchscreen because of the way the controls are implemented (not very precisely). Compared with a gamepad or mouse/keyboard it's just a lot less precise. BUT, for a version of the game that I can fit in my pocket I suppose this is an OK tradeoff. I'd say the game itself is 5 stars but this port is 3 stars..Version: 1.1.0

Retains the feel of the PC versionI have an iPhone 6+ w/ 64 GB if that matters. This is the first and only game I've installed. It runs flawlessly. That said, I've only played the tutorial and only have 8 hours of gameplay, so I can't give a detailed review but I did want to offer a counterpoint to the "buggy as hell" reviews. I played the original xcom games on a PC back in the 90s and this retains that same feeling of tenseness and satisfaction. My only complaint is that I wish I had more screen real estate, but of course I'm not sitting in front of my 24" monitor so it's a silly complaint. Nonetheless, it does make situation awareness a challenge. Still, it's the same addictive game I remember so fondly. Best $7 I've spent in awhile. Update: I just completed my 4th full campaign. That's about 2 solid months of playing. I've had all of one (1) crash. When I restarted from the crash I added an action so as not to trigger it again and it worked like a champ. If I could give it an strange star if do it..Version: 1.1.0

One of the best turned based games periodPros: •Great combat that never lets you feel too powerful. Even when you’re late in the game and feel like you’ve “got it” there’s always something that can, and does, happen to fix that feeling. Whether it’s a surprise enemy you ran into that’s in overwatch that you didn’t expect or your soldier missed a critical shot, you can expect the game to be unrelentingly smart about causing you problems. •Permadeath. Pretty much if someone dies they’re gone for good. You always have the fear of losing your best soldiers; who have sortied over 15 times with 50 kills that turn missions into your favor when they deploy EVERY time you send them out into harms way. That is real fear so easily built into this game. Those are the two main pros for me about this. Cons: •Glitches, ever so minor. Basically things like changing height differences with the camera to get a better view of things causes issues where you want to see the roof of a building but the game shows you the interior instead. Or when you want to see if your character can climb a drain pipe and move to cover with a single action point but the camera only shows you their path inside the building again. Even with that it’s just so minor it does make the game any less great TLDR: download it if you enjoy turn based permadeath games that never stop being challenging but never stop being satisfying at the same time..Version: 1.3.0

Great Mobile PortI am a huge fan of XCOM: Enemy Unknown and its expansion, Enemy Within, on the PC. When I saw a mobile version for my iPhone 6, I had to give it a shot, especially for $10. While they did have to cut a few of the features due to hardware and storage limitations, the tactical and base building areas of the game are pretty close to the original. Most of the cuts they made were to soldier customization, tactical cinematics, fewer maps(I think), etc. The core game and the majority of its features are still there and, more importantly, they're fun. I was very surprised how well it runs on my iPhone 6. Load times are very short and the interface is very well done for a touch screen game that has this much depth. Despite my large fingers, I'm able to run through missions without any mistakes caused by the UI. If you enjoyed the new XCOM games, you will more than likely have a lot of fun with the mobile version that you can play anywhere and fits in your pocket..Version: 1.1.0

Fun mobile x com but bad controlsI get it’s a phone game but still the controls aren’t the best they don’t really respond or work just right as intended I try and click on a stair case to select upstairs and my character goes to a different location down stairs I try and climb a pip to get on the roof and just walk up to the pip I eventually get what was wrong I needed to click the camera thing and move it up but that’s a small hassle and also buggy along with if I’m moving farther Spaces in the yellow it sometimes jumps me to a different character and doesn’t let me move so yeah but still worth 5$ if your a big x com fan who wants to play it on the move mobile but also as a fan who’s used to better controls on either PC or console especially console just cause that’s what I played it originally on so I was used to that way of playing it feels off and bad but still happy I bought it but that’s why it’s so low rated 3* but could have been higher on console I gave it a 5* and it’s probably best on pc :).Version: 1.4.0

Keeps closingI never write complaints on these ever, only reason why i am right now is because i want a quick fix soon. I love XCOM EW its my favorite game of all time that ive ever played on PS3. I have always wanted a port to a PS Vita but got mega excited about the iOS port. I downloaded yesterday and turned on, got super excited and after i try to start single player, it immediately for e closed in the loading screen. I had all my other apps closed and it did it so i just restarted it, and tried again, same thing. I uninstalled and reinstalled and same thing again. I am using an iPod Touch 5th Generation with iOS 8s latest update. It says on the compatibility that itll run on iPod Touch. It runs yeah but doesnt play. Im probably gonna have to pick up the PS3 version again and hope for a PS Vita port and im really looking forward for an update to fix the use on iPod Touch 5th generation. I really really love XCOM this doesnt ruin my love for this game but it really got me worried about downloading new games.Version: 1.1.0

Worth more than $10I don’t leave reviews unless I’m p*ssed so that makes this mean that much more. This is by far the best and most played game I’ve ever purchased. I was weary about spending $10 since I try to keep my gaming budget on the cheap but after knowing the gameplay, this game is well worth more than $10. There are several new missions that are not in the original computer, or Xbox games, with new enemies. The difficulty of the battles only makes me want to beat it more. The graphics are beautiful in how they go into detail of each turn. The catchphrases of the soldiers are awesome and hilarious. This game will take days to complete even if you were playing non-stop, there is so much gameplay. Please 2K, make more games with this strategy, it is truly the best. I would gladly pay more money for more games like this, where is the donation link??.Version: 1.4.0

Good but controls worse than previous xcom IOSIn general this is a solid game, and I love the extra features from Enemy Within. However, they seem to have made a control change from Enemy Unknown to this one where clicking on an existing selection(where to move or fire a rocket) is counted as accepting that. In the previous version you had to manually select the appropriate confirm/move button. This is a problem because(understandably) the touch controls have some difficulty selecting the appropriate spot. You can eventually get to the correct spot... unless the game has taken one of your clicks as confirmation. This is bad enough if you do not move to cover, worse if you fire a rocket at your team. The game should go back to the selection process of the previous IOS game, where you had to hit a specific confirmation button..Version: 1.1.0

Shockingly, this game mostly works on iPad proYeah yeah I know I’m 8 years late with this review. I’m just here to say, this remains to this day one of the best PC-style games on iOS. Also, it mostly does works on my big fancy new iPad Pro. It looks pretty good too! There’s a couple drawbacks, but if you’re reading this you’ve probably played the game on PC already and are looking for a mobile hit of sweet sweet XCOM, so I’m sure your brain will fill in the sound effects. Because there won’t be any. Sound worked perfectly well the first play session but then never came back on. Also, save scummers of the world, this is our time to shine because the game will sometimes freeze during in-game cutscenes (I suspect another sound issue). Reloading a save will get you through. The one bug that does really kill the game is the Sectopod jump animation (or sound!). So you just need to kill those before they get a chance to jump. Easy peasy! Anyways I got to the traditional endpoint of the game, where by long and sacred tradition you can’t go through the final door of the final level because you missed an alien cowering I the dark 6 rooms and three miles ago. So, once again, an exact replica of the PC experience! 5 stars..Version: 1.4.0

Runs smoothly and plays well!I’m frankly shocked that this game runs so well on my iPad Air 2 while still looking rather good. Of course, closeups and certain visual flairs reveal how downgraded the graphics had to be in order get a high level of performance, but so far the trade offs seem well thought out. Controls are good with movements and abilities requiring a separate button to confirm the decision (no accidentally sending a soldier out to die or wasting a headshot because of touch controls). The soundtrack fails to disappoint and customization options for soldiers while diminished due to graphics quality being lower are still available and fun to tinker with. It’s the whole game for your tablet! Xcom 2 had some cool quality of life features, but don’t let the existence of a sequel dissuade you from giving the first title a shot. It’s super fun..Version: 1.4.0

Please Update Camera ControlsIt’s XCOM. On your phone. It’s a perfect little time killer throughout the day, as the game picks right back up where you left it as long as you don’t completely terminate the app. My one and only gripe about this port is the camera. Please, for the love of the Council, add more camera options. The current sensitivity gives me Tinder flashbacks with all the swiping that’s required to move it in any meaningful way. I want to be able to drag the camera at a speed and distance that matches my finger’s movement. And I’d like an option that allows me to keep the camera zoomed out when I switch soldiers or end one’s turn. Constantly zooming the camera out before moving soldiers is bothersome. These little improvements would greatly increase what is already a stellar experience..Version: 1.4.0

Best iOS game to date!In my previous review I wrote that I rate games by playing time only. My playing time reflects everything that matters to me. Not graphics, bells, whistles, songs, but how long the game keeps me entertained. As an XCOM neophyte I had a steep learning curve. The in game tutorial was the best I could ask for. It was optional, not forced, and the game was as 'unlocked' immediately as it would ever be. Cxms game had a incredible false ending that caught me unawares and led to a new story arc and many hours of play time. My only caveat is that this game is a battery killer and it seems to heat up my iPhone 5 64 GB. Plan accordingly or this is a nuisance. This version seemed rushed to capitalize on popularity and contains more snags than the original. I was caught in a loop at the Chryssalid wharf and had to restart game and iPhone to play. I had to start at a prior auto save and redo the entire mission..Version: 1.1.0

You’re looking for XCOM. ⬇️Game runs well. 2024 running a iPhone 11 Pro iOS 17.3. The only reason the star is missing is because the sound effect of the fire I think bugs the game where it can have a static sound and person in XCOM I like the footstep aspect and the subtle sounds to let you know a character could be close but it doesn’t ruin the game you can play with music in the background if you’d like. All the basics of XCOM are there plus some extras. XCOM2s story is better but for $4.99 on the App Store you’ll be able to get your bang for your Buck. - Minor Bug List • Static on Levels with Fire • Grapple On Top of White Moving Van with Maxed Sniper w/ double Tap, next move Shoot Once, any monster that tries to intimidate you you after your shoot it and don’t kill it locks your second action, have to reload game..Version: 1.4.0

Great game but some issuesA decent port of an excellent game. Pros- 1.runs quite well on my device (iPad Air) 2.decent graphics for an iOS game 3.gameplay almost identical to the PC or PS3 ports 4.awesome game if you like tactical turn based shooters Cons- 1.semi-frequent game breaking bugs for example at the end of a mission 1 alien can be stuck in some corner that requires a 10 minute search to finally kill, or when launching satellites in response to a request the satellite doesn't actually get placed over the country yet takes your satellite uplink capacity. 2.rare crashes 3.bad control scheme, even with the largest apple device I feel like I frequently tap one space but some adjacent space is registered Suggestions- Fix as many game breaking bugs as possible. Optimize the game more or decrease graphics quality. (No matter how "good" it looks it will never be as good as the PC port I would much rather have the graphics be sub par and have awesome frame-rates than have as many pixels be jammed onto my screen as is possible and get low/fluctuating fps) Overall I think it is a decent port of an awesome game that could use some bug fixes. It is nice for long car rides but I would still much rather play this on my PS3 or PC..Version: 1.1.0

A Tactical MasterpieceThe XCOM series has been a favorite of mine when it comes to tactical, turn-based combat. When I purchased this on mobile, I was afraid of the controls being awful or the graphics to look way too outdated. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the controls. Although the swiping camera controls can be difficult at times, using the buttons works great for me. The game feels good to play, and rewards strategical thinking. Not only is there turn-based combat, but also base building and resource management. The choice is entirely up to you: to spend your resources on a newer, better weapon, or to spend them on creating MECs or super soldiers. This game is amazing, even on mobile, and will continue to be one of my favorites..Version: 1.4.0

64-bit version? (Edited 64 bit support is coming)There is nothing within the app description about whether this app will be updated to run on 64-bit devices. I looked on the 2K website and forum and couldn't find any info. If not, this game will be abandonware and everyone who updates their iDevice to the next major iOS firmware update will no longer be able to play this game. Giving the app 3 stars. Will raise to 5 if the app gets 64 bit support. Will lower to 1 star if it doesn't. Edit: just found out that 64 bit support is coming. Changed rating to 5 stars. I can now wholeheartedly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys strategy games. Particularly turn-based tactical squad games. So when is XCOM 2 WoTC coming to iOS 😋.Version: 1.1.0

Xcom EW Without a usable cameraI am an avid fan of the XCOM games. I have thoroughly enjoyed every single game (Yes, even Terror from the Deep) in the series, and XCOM: EW is certainly no different. I have 1000+ hrs on the PC version, and have beaten Ironman Impossible Long War. As you can tell, I am somewhat obsessed with this game. I bought this so I can play a bit of XCOM when not at home, and it is a very good port of the PC edition. The only issue I have found is the terrible camera and it's broken auto-adjust (ex: when I want to go up a ladder, and the camera, even when I go up a floor, still thinks I'm trying to jump through a window to get inside). I don't like that you can't zoom in. Other than that, it is a solid port of a game everybody should play, and is definitely worth a buy. 9/10..Version: 1.1.0

A FavoriteEasily one of my favorite games, and I don't just mean favorite mobile games. This is a fantastic strategy game. I've enjoyed the franchise on PC for years. The port to mobile is excellent. I prefer it on iPad, but it works surprisingly well on iPhone as well. The strategy involved is entertaining and challenging. Each successful mission feels like an accomplishment. Hours of gameplay for a single run through the missions and great replayability. Can be played in short blocks or long session. I can't say enough good things about this game. The price point is actually quite good as you get the full game that sells on PC for more than twice the cost and no in app purchases or pay to win tactics that usually plague mobile games..Version: 1.4.0

Fun gameplay, but a dead endThe gameplay is fun. It reminds me of the original. Graphics are decent. Aliens use pretty good squad tactics. That's enough to warrant 3 stars. However, the game is old and hasn't been updated for 3 years. For mobile games, that's an unpardonable sin. The mechanics are tough even at the easiest setting. For example, keeping all the countries happy to prevent them from exiting the council is near impossible. Keeping your team alive to promote beyond corporal also proves to be overly difficult on the easiest setting. The final nail was today. For no apparent reason, audio dialogue just stopped working. I tried resetting to the default settings, stopped and restarted the game. I even restarted my device. No luck. So, I've reinstalled the game. If that doesn't work, I'll probably delete it and write it off as a $10 loss. Shame on you 2K..Version: 1.1.0

Tactical, intense, alien-fighting funThis game is my introduction to the XCOM universe. I'm very impressed with the look and sound of it, and the depth of it overall. The controls are a little confusing at times, especially in tutorial mode where the happy path is not always obvious on a "tiny" screen like the iPhone 5s's. But they could be worse. The game itself, especially the story, is INTENSE. I've already lost one game, and geez, talk about the agony of defeat. Soldier after soldier biting the dust. Then the grand finale in the situation room… as it slowly shuts down, the body language of the section chiefs gathered there is just heartbreaking—the numbness from defeat, the dread of what the future holds. Holy moly. What are you trying to do, game, make me kill myself? 😊 But I'm going in for another try! That's how good this is..Version: 1.1.0

Man this game is fantasticAlright let’s talk about XCOM and for the hate that this game got first of all it has been updated so ignore the reviews that where there 3 years ago second if you have an old device sorry but you have to update your device anyways and yes this game in my opinion is worth the money especially if you don’t have a pc. The game is hard so don’t get frustrated with it just take your time I’ve been playing it for about a year and still haven’t beaten it also it gives you the entire game and it’s expansion the pc version does not do this they just give you the game plus 12 or 15 dollars is pretty cheap for a 40-60 hour game Ps (I am not paid to write this review).Version: 1.4.0

Good GameAlthough buying the game like an idiot on an iPod this game, from what I've played, is quite similar to the full one on PC or console. It has the features and options of the game but I can't quite understand why it doesn't work for iPods and earlier devices. Its general gameplay is actually fantastic still with one or two lag spikes seen throughout a whole mission even on the early devices. To Some this may seem like a lot but for a slow moving convoy-style player with heavy defense I say this is really good. Also, from my time with mobile games Firaxis really made the graphics high-end compared to most games. Overall, they did amazingly from what I've been able to play..Version: 1.1.0

Love the game, hate the bugIPhone 5S. Awesome game. Played it through without any major bug issues. After beating the single-player mode, I started on multiplayer. Very cool feature. I was going along fine for a few games, then suddenly hit an error message in the middle of several games. I can still log in and see the games I have in progress, but tapping on any game just gives me the same error message: "Connection failed. Please retry later." It's been this way for several days. So frustrating! I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it didn't change a thing. I have no idea what to do. Given what I payed for this game (and for its predecessor), I'd like it to keep working!.Version: 1.1.0

Best iOS game I ever downloaded.I paid for this game before COVID… and here we are April 2023 and this is hand down still best best iOS game I’ve ever played. If you ask me it’s better than on Xbox and pc. Call me crazy, but it feel perfect on my phone. Yo be fair I didn’t play the second one yet… but I liked this one more anyway. So, if you’ve never played this game or thought about getting it. Do yourself a favor… I don’t even write reviews, but after picking it back up… It’s just as tight as the first time I played it. Im buying the second one just to support them for doing such a good job on this one..Version: 1.4.0

Helping the undecided =DECIDE!--Never crashed or glitched Once! --I have a iPad air2 and I use my wife's newer iPad Mini..same thing= zero issues! ---verdict- the older you're iPad,iPhone,iPod is = the more issues you'll encounter. Just like pic gaming.. ---so with that being said I'll get down to the tablet version of this review. ---I never finished this game or the previous com because it always got boring. But this game is like the prototype perfect game for a tablet because it's a turn based game and there's no rush to do anything. So tablet works better then console imho.. --Graphic The best I've seen so far but as great as the iPad Air 2 is I'm yet to be impressed or blown away I've only bought this, motor and Sid Meir starships and Xoom blows them away. But I'm barely impressed. Tablet isn't a replacement for PC or console. -in my case when I'm away from those..I suspect that applies to all... This game was a lot of fun and found myself sitting playing it long after I shoulda left work or. Wherever... The best way to play com.. Wait for a sale like indie..Version: 1.1.0

Too easy or too hardNormal difficulty is too easy and I get bored one hitting everything to death. Put it on classic and it just becomes frustrating. The aliens can critically hit you from any angle and any distance while you, with a 98% hit expectancy miss every time. I cannot level up my characters because they die in one hit from across the map while in full cover! Too many video cut scenes. I want to play this game, not watch a plane fly back and fourth in three different cut scenes. Some cut scenes can be skipped while others cannot. I do not really care about getting saluted for giving a medal. Why can I not skip that cinematic?.Version: 1.4.0

Bring on the E.T. Slaughter! As someone who played the original X-Com and almost every iteration of the game since, I have to say this one is amazing. The fact that it is a mobile game is even more remarkable. The game play and content are top notch. The only thing that lets you know your on a phone is the screen size and the lack of a mouse. Now said lack of mouse has caused some combatant movement that I did not intend, and a “undo” option would be great, but that is really my only critique. (You can overcome the problem with slowing down and being extra careful with screen touches.) All in all, this is a great game and well worth the money..Version: 1.4.0

Best app out thereI'll be forthcoming, I'm biased. I've been a fan of the XCOM franchise since I played the original on the PC. That said, this really is a great game. So much that I've not only purchased it on the Xbox 360 (both versions), but also on my kindle and now my iPhone. In an age where nearly every app out there, let alone "strategy" selections, are littered with in-app purchases it's refreshing to pay the one time charge and just enjoy myself. I don't even feel angry that I've bought this game 4 times over now, I'm happy my contributions have helped bring about XCOM 2. Now it's time to get a PC capable of playing it..Version: 1.1.0

Great game, bad bugI really enjoy this game, it's very similar to the original I played in the 90's. Only one complaint on this app, and it's a big one... On iPad 4, the game crashes very frequently once a mission is completed. Meaning that I finish a tough mission, app crashes, then have to go back to the last 'autosave' marker and do it all over again. Sometimes this is only a couple melee's back, other times it sets me near the beginning. Very annoying. Every time this occurs it's during the animation of the shuttle craft landing at the XCOM base. Good animations, but it's obviously causing problems with gameplay. Please keep working at this..it's really good. Just than dang crashing bug. Thanks for bringing back some of the fun I had in my childhood..Version: 1.1.0

Please add control capabilityThere is not a doubt in my mind this an awesome game/series. On that end, I have no complaints. But it seems like there’s a total disregard for how technical this game is. This game being played strictly touch screen requires insane patience. You’re going to be spending a lot of time just correcting and adjusting. So sadly I don’t play this game currently. Please make this game controller compatible if you’re going to continue to sell it. The game is pricey enough so there’s not many excuses you have to make that adjustment. And if you don’t, you’re just gonna keep getting many complaints along the same category/ regrets in buying game. Please please please make this update and I’ll happily change my rating..Version: 1.4.0

Top 5The only thing I want that isn't already a part of this ludicrously amazing game, is for there to be the sound of splashing when units move through water. I'm sure I could nit-pick and find a few more. Yes, it crashes occasionally. Yes, the camera angle can affect how easily you direct movement of troops, but you can change the perspective, so that is a minor annoyance. Some of the multitude of reasons these small trifles do not detract from this gem are: strategy in a myriad of facets of the game, fantastic graphics, and the replay factor is unparalleled. Engrossing, and easily one of the best ports to iOS I have ever played..Version: 1.3.0

Best game in App StoreUpdate: any problems people have with crashing I suspect is due to user error or device error. This game is legit and the best of its kind by far. The different ways to level up your base and troops really engrossing, and allows replayability that feels new and different. I still can't believe it's an iOS game. I have played countless games on my iPhones and iPad over the years, and this is hands-down the best game I've ever played. It is a console/pc game ported perfectly to iOS. Truly engaging, challenging, and fun. Can't believe it's on a handheld device. Standing O to the devs on this one! 5 stars? Nope...10!! Get. This. Game..Version: 1.1.0

Best Turn Based Strategy & Tactics Game! 3 Years Running!Gentlemen and Ladies, I would like to applaud the hard work by the grunts in the back rooms at Feraxis Games for updating this for the 64-Bit Appocolypse! It would have been a true shame to lose this game. This game is a interesting take on the classic kill all the aliens games out there. It became genera defining. You will have to equip your soldiers on the strategic layer of the game. While you are engaged in tactical combat on the ground repelling aliens where ever possible. You will have to make meaningful decision. Somethings will not go as planned, and good soldiers will die, but make sure it was not in vain..Version: 1.2.0

Excellent port of an excellent PC gameMy title says it all. I have loved the X-Com games for years and being able to play on something like an iPad is awesome. I play on an iPad Air 2 and it runs great. The game is exactly like the PC game; I have really noticed nothing changed or different. The change in controls to accommodate tapping on an iPad works very well. My only complaint is how the game chews up battery power. I simply play with it plugged in. For me , this is not even enough to take away one star. This game rocks and I highly recommend it, especially if you are a fan of this series and like iPads..Version: 1.1.0

5 Stars with a caveatIt's one of the best video games ever made. High-level strategy, a compelling plot, and a lot of alien killing. It's also better on every other platform on which it's available. That's not to say this is a bad port. It's better than I expected; I'm just more used to the more agile controls and smoothness on the PC. It's also missing the Slingshot missions and the crappy Psy chick missions, but that's certainly not a deal breaker. It's also lacking the escort Council Missions, but that's not a big deal either (except for missing the best NPC in gaming history of General Van Doorn). Long story short, get it..Version: 1.1.0

Alien Extermination on the go!Just like the earlier ported Xcom Enemy Unknown, the now ported Enemy Within is a faithful, and complete, port that is well worth your cash if you enjoy turn based strategy games. You get everything you would find in the PC Version of this title, save for a slight reduction in graphical quality. Pros: - Faithful Port. No pruned Major Features here! - Same Xcom Turn-Based Strategy Gameplay, but on the Go! - Early Access to several of the more "Amusing" (My opinion) or Tactically Interesting Second Wave Options. (Great for owners of the PC version of Xcom seeking an instantly customizable portable playing experience.) - Running on an IPhone 5, the game runs beautifully with very little lag and fairly quick loading times. Can only imagine newer devices would perform even better than it already does. - Despite reduced graphical quality, the graphics do seem to have been updated slightly between Enemy Unknown's iOS release and this titles release. Cons: - Camera and unit movement can occasionally result in unintended move or Area of effect Attack orders when attempting to pan the camera within a unit's Movement range. Swipe with care folks! - Customization got the short end of the stick. Most Armors only have one Alternate Appearance, and the Mec Suit's overall appearance does not noticeably change over variants (A Brand New Mec will look essentially the same as a Fully upgraded Mec). They did keep those rather dapper Fedora's in though! All in All, if you own Xcom, like Xcom, or want more turn based strategy on the go, this title won't steer you wrong. (As long as you make sure your chosen device is supported by the game of course!).Version: 1.1.0

Not suited for phoneI love the Xcom series on console and PC however I find the game doesn't translate well to the touch screen. To strategize well, you need to look around the map but with so many clickable characters on screen it's easy to make wrong selections and accidental moves that can cost you the game. If you can get past this frustration, it's a good game..Version: 1.1.0

Awesome game worth the priceThank you for the iPhone 6 updates. I like the shadows. I am thinking you can up the gfx even more or make it a user setting. Love to see atmospheric fx and better textures. Better freedom to rotate camera angles and pan tilt would also make my experience more enjoyable..Version: 1.1.0

NO 64-BIT SUPPORTThis is an excellent port of an excellent game, but be aware that it is currently a 32-bit app and will stop working with iOS 11 unless the developer fixes it. This seems unlikely given that the app was last updated in 2014..Version: 1.1.0

Need to go on earlier devicesYou should make this game be able to run on earlier devices because I just got an iPad mini 1 and like it didn't work cause it's too old for it but I could get it on my phone but it ends up taking up 3.3 gbs out of 16 so that doesn't really work that well on my phone cause all my contacts and texts are on there and work that also takes up a bunch of space but otherwise it's a great game much more choice over enemy unknown with meld with the gene lab and the cybernetics lab.Version: 1.1.0

Read the discription foolsSo you freak out about the game being unplayable and don't read the technical specs. Dude really just read it before you buy anything.Version: 1.1.0

Please update. Great game, enemy withinPlease update Xcom Enemy Within.. this game storyline goes well with Xcom 2. Its really fun to play the both of them..Version: 1.4.0

Amazing with minor flawsMy only real complaint is about the functionality when attempting to select or deploy assets to other levels. On an oftentimes complex map with areas reached by ramps, climbing, or jumpjets, with competing layers, it became a matter of trying to fight with the interface to get the correct location selected on the correct height before moving a soldier to that location. This was such a consistent problem on the iPhone11, despite the large screen size to work with, also the pinch and rotate commands often got confused. But mainly it’s the other issue that nagged my gameplay. Maybe if I was playing on a desktop these would not be issues at all. Otherwise this game outperforms while paying homage to its Xcom predecessors. The classic from the 90s, before they went underwater, is the best. This latest version does many things even better without dropping anything from the original style. Many ThanX for this wonder!.Version: 1.4.0

Great game by way too hard for casual play.Super hard deeper into the game to the point of losing enjoyment..Version: 1.4.0

Great game 😅Except the GOD DAMN CRYSILIDS, WHY MUST THEY EXIST.Version: 1.4.0

Amazing game, butLoving playing this classic on my iPad, can’t quite run the sequel, but happy to play the first one. I have run into a bug, however. The ‘revive’ skill doesn’t appear to work properly. Have confirmed on multiple save files, and after reinstalling the game. Option will not appear when nearby team mate is downed. Your soldier can be standing on top of the squad mate, and the option to revive or stabilize will not appear once the ‘revive’ skill has been unlocked..Version: 1.4.0

Update for iPhone X+Update for iPhone X+ please XCOM 2 is too expensive.Version: 1.4.0

Good but frustratingGreat game, but impossible to control elevation of certain abilities, which is very annoying, movement is a little finicky..Version: 1.4.0

Best game on IPhoneThe title say it all. I own this game on Xbox 360, pc and IPhone..Version: 1.4.0

Please improve the graphics, I have an IPad ProPlease improve the graphics, I have an IPad Pro. The graphic could be way better..Version: 1.4.0

Love this game !Loved playing this game on my computer and love playing it on my ipad. I have little issues placing my squad properly during fights but this is still a five stars to me. Hope you release Xcom 2 on IOS soon !!!.Version: 1.4.0

IPad Pro 11in support pleaseVery good game, I just want iPad Pro 11in support :( worth buying either way though.Version: 1.4.0

Is it compatible with IOS 13.xI have written to support a few weeks ago with this question but no reply! I just want to make sure i can still play it if upgrading to 13.x I have to say that it is still buggy, although minor annoyances (e.g. shiv starts shooting blanks in the middle of gallop; MEC stopped being upgradable despite all the research done (fixed with a re-download of the game; and others...). It is still quoted today as one of the best strategy games for the iPad, despite its age. I love it for being able to play it with the need for internet. Hoping it will not go the way of my ever fav game “Lord of the Rings : Middle Earth Defence” by GLU..Version: 1.4.0

Perfect Adaption for IOSThe flawlessness with which it has been transposed is nothing short of remarkable. If you loved the console version, you will not be disappointed. The developers hit a home run with this adaptation..Version: 1.4.0

A lot of fun!I love it! It takes a short learning curve to get used to the controls but afterwards it’s very addictive!.Version: 1.4.0

Love the game, could be improvedThe game is great for the iPad, tho there are some shadow glitches and I wish there are more ways to customize control. For example an option to disable the double tap to move. It’s really easy to misclick it.Version: 1.4.0

Amazing game butPlease optimize this game for the iPhone XS Max screen, I love xcom and would like for it to look even better on my phone, that’s the reason for the 3 star otherwise I would give it 5.Version: 1.4.0

Good gameplay and has the right XCOM feel to itI’ve got about 3 hours of gameplay on this game and I can tell you it’s really fun and strongly recommend it to anyone who likes turn based strategy game, the only reason I only put 4 stars is that it doesn’t feel like real XCOM graphics, I mean for a phone it’s alright but for XCOM it’s not so good.Version: 1.4.0

Best game ever!!!Best strategy game!.Version: 1.4.0

Where is XCOM 2I downloaded this game recently and starting to play again, love every minute I spent on it. I played XCOM:EU and then XCOM:EW, they both excellent port from the pc version. Don’t listen to others I never have problem for the control although I never play XCOM on console or pc version. Fantastic game, when can we enjoy the XCOM 2? Can’t wait!.Version: 1.4.0

Favorite iOS game of all timeXCom is my favourite iOS game of all time. Even years after it’s release I find myself still playing it through. The story line is awesome as are the graphics and gameplay. So many interesting layers to this game..Version: 1.4.0

Excellent turn-based game!Enjoying this game a lot..Version: 1.4.0

Amazing game got betterSuch an epic game, easily the best game on iOS. It's good on an iPhone plus, but it's epic on an iPad. If you like turn-based strategy, this is it. No game has managed to surpass it, not even xcom 2. Also touch interface makes this game MUCH better than the pc version, at least on iPad..Version: 1.4.0

EXCELLENT !!!The game is amazing. A lot of fun and very strategic. PLEASE make another one. Also please make “enemy unknown” available in Canada. I’d be happy to purchase it and support your game and it’s devs. Cheers..Version: 1.4.0

Xcom reviewAmazingly well ported to mobile. My only struggle is camera control but otherwise game runs beautifully..Version: 1.3.0

Great expansionNot exactly new, more like an expansion to the original. Well worth the price, though. By far my favourite iOS game, and I like lots of different kinds of games. Super fun tactical game. iPad Air 2. Not a single crash. Not sure what people are on about. Trying to run fancy new games on older hardware, I expect. Edit: updated for iOS 11! So thankful that I get my favourite game back. Works fantastic on 12.9” iPad Pro. Unlike many games, the graphics are high Rez beautiful on big iPad. Buttery smooth, the best XCOM tablet experience yet..Version: 1.3.0

Ios11 update! Thanks!! Awesome!!Thanks.Version: 1.3.0

Baddest AssestXCOM rules..Version: 1.2.0

Fun but one feature is annoyingLoved this game and have yet to play the sequel XCOM 2 but the only off putting thing is that my phone music can’t play over the app..Version: 1.2.0

Thanks 2k!Thanks for the 64bit update guys. Always been an x com fan and I’m glad you made it possible for me to continue enjoying Enemy Within..Version: 1.2.0

Need a code rebuild for ios11No crash after playing a lot on my ipad air. With [quite dead] Age of Booty Tactics they are my fav. But what about continuous improvements e.g. IOS 9 build ?.Version: 1.1.0
