CARROT Weather: Alerts & Radar App Comments & Reviews

CARROT Weather: Alerts & Radar Positive Reviews

Best app, continually improving and adding featuresAlways new things, always do layouts, always fun. This is the only app I have found that is both visually appealing, highly customizable and has oodles of info available. There is now a map available with layers that can show features like radar, storms cells and their projected directions, weather fronts (really hard to find apps that show the weather fronts on them!), A feature called cards that you can customize to show additional information that you want to see, and customizable notifications. For example you can set to be notified if there is a lightning strike within X many miles, where X is customizable. You can set the notification for during the day only or overnight. You can have notifications sent to you yes for example snow accumulation will be greater than 2 inches for the day. Just some of the features that Carrot now offers. Love this app. I have had it for five years and have been amazed how much development there has been – especially since it’s the product of one person, not a company. Get the Premium Club, because it’s cheap and really worth it. And every once in a while throw something in the tiptoe jar so that he can keep on developing new looks, etc..Version: 5.10.3

Hail Carrot!Let’s face it. You’re not here because you want a weather app that’ll tell you the weather and nothing else. No. What you really want is a sadistic computer named after a root vegetable who’ll threaten to strike you dead with lightning like Zeus and explain things about the world you didn’t particularly want to know (“Today is a good day to try to win over your crush by FedExing them one of your body parts,” she may tell you when it’s sunny) all while gathering achievements when you experience a flood or fire warning, hearing the occasional unsolicited political comment (you can turn it off if you want), and playing fun geography puzzles that may or may not be a disguise for the calibrating of a missile targeting system. But if you take yourself a little too seriously, you can always turn off her personality, (which is just cruel when you think about it) or if your feeling especially masochistic, switch it to Overkill Mode, in which she will cuss and threaten and tease and generally take everything you hold sacred and grind it to dust under her cold, metal boot. As you can tell, this app is a great deal of fun and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a hearty laugh in their daily routine. And maybe a little bit of threatening..Version: 5.1.1

The new update is fantasticI never leave reviews, but I felt compelled to after seeing some folks ripping on the new UI. Sure, it takes a bit of getting used to and can feel a little modern and bright for some, but this is a fun take on weather. If you want a basic weather app, you know where to go. The data isn’t immediately easy to navigate like before because it’s so different, but wow, once you figure out where things are at, it’s far and away the best weather app out there. I found the old version to be a little light on the data I was seeking, and the precipitation forecasts wildly unreliable in my area. It seems they’ve adjusted that algorithm, and we’ll see if it’s improved. For now, the main takeaway here is that they are presenting weather-related data here that we ACTUALLY care about, that other apps aren’t. I’m spending twice as much time on this app now because it’s just fun to use (maybe I’m just a nerd). They even have Wikipedia break downs of wind, precipitation, moon phases, etc! It’s fascinating. The day and hourly breakdowns are really nicely executed as well and I love seeing the temperature graphs. Also, they give you much more in the entry level version than they did prior. Don’t change the layout, it’s fantastic..Version: 5.0.7

The best weather app you NEED on your phone! (and on your wrist!)Finally! The best weather app I can find that was built for me! (and for a good price too!) I first came across CARROT Weather on the App Store. I thought to myself… It's just another weather app, how would I be too excited about it? But when I got my new Apple Watch, I only care about information on the face, that’s why complications exist. I then look at on watch face from the Apple Watch store page and saw the “Ultimate Weather Station for Nerds” watch face. I downloaded that watch face. But that is when reality hit. I need to pay a subscription for these features. I tried different apps offering watch face complications. But that doesn’t live up to my expectations. So I thought “You know what, $20 a year doesn’t seem like a bad deal” So I bought a year’s subscription for premium. Worth. Every. Penny. Period. Hands down. It had all the features I ever wanted! including a customizable weather screen, a weather map on my Apple Watch, and a snarky sarcastic AI! I liked all the features of the weather app! You, folks, know how to make monitoring environmental conditions fun! Definitely worth buying a subscription again!.Version: 5.10.3

Weather with attitudeI have evaluated countless weather apps looking for exactly the right combination of accuracy, essential features and visual organization. Carrot comes very close to my ideal. The “snark” factor is amusing and unique and, while others will no-doubt continue to use it, I moved beyond it pretty quickly and just use the “boring” mode! Carrot is extremely well thought out, with current conditions, hourly and daily forecasts arranged in a smart and very readable layout. I love being able to switch between Dark Sky and Wunderground weather sources with a tap, and quick access to the radar map is a real plus. The only other weather app that has this combination of features and design smarts is BeWeather (another excellent weather app), and it’s a real horse race between the two. What disappoints me about Carrot and keeps it from being a 5-Star app is the conspicuous lack of baked-in notifications. To get severe weather alerts on your iPhone, you must purchase a separate app for your Mac and then have the two devices talk to each other via iCloud. Way too many steps and $$ for something that is the de facto standard in most other first-rate weather apps. I really hope the Carrotians will re-consider this approach. That would garner 5 stars from me and a renewal of my subscription..Version: 4.2.2

Useful and funnyImagine one day you find yourself walking in Central Park. You come upon an ice cream vendor selling what they advertise as the worlds best ice cream. Clearly you know this to be false as the worlds best ice cream is from your hometown in Akron, OH and not from a mustachioed wizard in skinny jeans and a Sonic Youth tattoo on the back of his hand. Eager to prove his dubious sign wrong, you order a small vanilla cone which is not only the specialty of this cart whose name is apparently “ice creams” (quotes included), but also the only choice on the poorly made menu. The man, seeing the obvious doubt and disdain in your eyes, hands you a long cylindrical shape wrapped in a swath of dirty burlap, and mumbles “no charge”. You carefully unwrap the burlap to find, not a vanilla cone, which you somehow still assumed it would be; but instead you are oddly delighted to find an uncooked hotdog. You glance questioningly at skinny jeans, gesturing towards the hotdog, and without a moment of hesitation, he grabs the wiener from your outstretched hand, flips it over and now somehow, it is not only an ice cream cone, but the absolute best ice cream cone you have ever had in your entire life. That is what using this app is like..Version: 5.9.1

Needs Better RadarJust starting to get acquainted with the app, but it’s going well so far. It’s highly configurable, which I enjoy and makes a lot of sense because everyone is looking to get something a little different out of a weather app. Trying to please everyone is never a recipe for a great product, but Carrot includes a lot of options and features with a UI that focuses on what’s important. So kudos for that. One of the main things that drew me to this app was the developer’s promise not to sell user data. I live in Oklahoma, so I mainly rely on weather apps from local news stations, since weather is regularly a matter of life and death here and local sources are the most reliable and knowledgeable here. But I’d be shocked if those stations are not tracking users and selling data. I can’t switch entirely to Carrot yet though because the radar resolution in Carrot is terrible. Half the time I can’t even recognize a hook echo that’s clearly visible on News 9’s radar map. It would also be nice if there were more frames in the radar animation, but that’s not a huge deal. So, to the developer, I don’t know if you can get a higher resolution radar source, but that’s going to be a requirement from me before I’ll subscribe, because without it I can’t completely give up other apps..Version: 4.11

Updated! NO REAL-TIME TORNADO WARNINGIn a previous review, which I have both authored and left unchanged (see below), I may seem a touch irritated, to put a mild touch on it. HOWEVER, I absolutely must not leave this criticism of mine to remain unchecked after the outstanding and inexplicably fast (think only a couple of hours, not days) improvements/revisions made by this praiseworthy team at CARROT that have resulted in VASTLY superior speed of service in regards to the notification of severe weather and safety alerts available from this app. I am still currently, and will remain a loyal fan for the foreseeable future. Please excuse the length of time that has elapsed since the original review and the update, I have no excuse, and thank you for your understanding, help, and unbelievably fast response to my concerns. ORIGINAL REVIEW LEFT BY ONE VERY UPSET AND SCARED YOURS TRULY: I’m , as of this moment, under an ACTIVE TORNADO WARNING, meaning that there is a real, live tornado heading my way. I received public emergency warnings, and Red Cross warnings, but ZERO FROM THIS GARBAGE. Just kinda figured I would let others know, you know, in case I die..Version: 5.7.1

My daily hilarious insultI have always had some type of weather app to keep me informed. I don’t remember how I was introduced to Carrot, but it has been an amusing way to deal with the boring task of planning my day around the weather. You can adjust the insult level, it has multiple sources for weather so you’d an choose your favorite one, and it even has fake commercials that are hilarious. The only thing I hate about it is that it has a subscription model. I am one of the few people that really hate subscription models. Since I have ADHD, I am more likely to forget about subscriptions and trial periods. I love having a free trial that lasts longer than 2 weeks so I can really get a feel for an app, I like an app that has a subscription model if you only need the tools for a short time window, and I LOVE lifetime (of the app) memberships where I can pay way more, but commit to apps and programs I love. During the Trump presidency, I found Carrot to be a lot funnier than it is now, but that’s more a sign of the times. Overall, a great app. If they ever create a life time membership, I will be in and the rating will change to 5+ stars..Version: 5.6.4

I just LOVE carrot 🤩⭐️First, hi. i’m a fellow chaotic human who loves chaos. Every day i always get bored with apps that are always encouraging and nice, until i found out about this app. I never knew a weather app could be so thrilling. I just love causing chaos and carrot seems like the greatest partner-in-crime. I enjoy just waking up to carrots rude comments. My friend recently got the app too, and with the chat-with-carrot area i planned out chaos towards my friend with carrot 🤣. If your a person who is tired of encouragement and all that stuff, carrot will give you the complete opposite. Just put on how threatening you want it’s rudeness to be, sit back, and enjoy carrot harshly ruining your day, and if your brave enough for its harshest mode, then prepare yourself for threats 24/7 🤣 also for other app recommendations with carrot, just get the carrot alarm app or the carrot chores app. carrot will get so mad at you if you oversleep your alarm or if you are being lazy and not doing your choirs or being productive 🤣🤣 these apps deserve a full 5 stars, even if you have to pay for stuff. enjoy your threats, you ugly meatbags 😁😂❤️🤍.Version: 5.11.2

Had to update my review after the app updateUpdate: after the update I did try the restore twice and nothing changed. Hence my previous review. After the developer’s response I tried the restore button once more and got the radar map back which satisfies my previous annoyance at the update. Previously it would just show the map without allowing me to zoom in on my location. That seems to be working now so I’m updating my review. Used to love this app. Bought the original $4.99 app so I could have it in my Apple Watch. The original one also had the radar map. (Which living in Florida is a must have with small storms popping up all the time.) After the update, you now have to have a premium subscription for watch complications AND to use the radar map. You updated it only to take away features and make me pay more for something I already had. Will be deleting it and going back to the weather channel app. Although I love the snarky sayings carrot had, it’s not worth paying a monthly subscription (after you already paid what most would consider a fairly high price for a weather app) for basic features other weather apps already have..Version: 5.0.3

I gave 5.0 a darn good chanceI’m a long-term, premium subscriber. Carrot made me happy because I felt - other than radars which I have special apps for - that I could get everything I needed at a glance. I would bring it up, tap on the hourly, and then could scroll it left with the hourly information changing up top and the daily staying in sync below. I could quickly tap on a day and see a great overview of what was happening. Now - even with the 4.0 layout option - that’s all gone. None of the things stay in sync, so I have to scroll to the hour I want, tap it, and then look back up to see. Daily information is shown on a completely different screen (and doesn’t show at all on the 4.0 layout). And what information I get - specifically the narratives - isn’t helpful any more. The developers are super responsive and always have been, and I can see from reviews lots of people love it. But after years as a subscriber I’ve cancelled my premium subscription and am back to the drawing board. Carrot app made me sad - and this time it wasn’t just because the snark was too on the nose. Instead it’s because they took away the one thing I loved it for. Maybe one day I’ll lovingly poke your ocular sensor in the eye again, CarrotApp..Version: 5.0.7

Unbelievably customizableFrom the iPhone app to the Apple Watch app the number of ways you can adjust this app to show just the data you want—and only the data you want—is amazing. And weather is one of those things that can bring out the geek in people, they want the info they want, and nothing else. I notice a few reviews don’t like the new look, but it looks fine to me, and the look is nowhere near as important as the customization. Some also don’t think the forecasts are that accurate where they live, but besides the fact that some geographic locations will be inherently less precise than others, Carrot gives you six different data sources to choose from (including Dark Sky) and even gives you two-click access to the NOAA page for your Zip if you want to see how it compares to what you’re seeing. No app is perfect, but one tap zoomable radar in motion, with multiple selectable data layers, on my Apple Watch is the kind of amazing sci-fi that makes living in the future pretty cool. Keep up the good work my man!.Version: 5.12.9

Great App Held Back by the New MapsThe app is great. I’ve been using it for so long that I really don’t care about the personality setting or the snark. It’s the reliable weather data from Apple’s DarkSky API that keeps my from switching. The app is getting too expensive, with inflation and the current economic landscape I’m reluctant to keep paying $50 a year for a family plan….just for weather. Don’t really think it’s worth nearly that much. Especially if I can get good enough data for free from Apple’s stock app. The new maps are a huge step backwards. The color and fonts don’t match the overall app. It’s really buggy and hard to navigate. The radar and forecast tabs don’t have any differentiation by default and if they do it’s not noticeable. Even when selecting the same settings it shows different data but again it’s not clear as to what it’s trying to show. The radar tab needs to be precipitation, cloud cover and storm cells only and the forecast tab needs to be temperature and pressure fronts only. The old maps system was much more user friendly and more visually attractive but I can see the new system has promise once the issues are worked out..Version: 5.6

THE Best Weather AppOut of all the weather apps that I have tried over the years, this one has proven itself to be the best one. This latest version (5.0) allows for the customization and display of a LOT of weather data, which I really like more than anything, and its functionality is absolutely stellar. The syncing that it performs across all devices is very, very good overall! The AI does put out some snarks that literally FORCE me to poke the daylights out of its eye (i.e. “You’re not supposed to say that!!!!!”), to which it continues to call me and everyone else MEATBAGS (nooooo we are not!!!; LOL). All in all, the great functionality, usefulness of data, and its humor causes me to continue using it consistently over the past several years! Also, given its features, this is one of the few apps out here where I can say that the subscription pricing is well worth it. Keep up the great work, makers of CARROTweather!! And, if you keep on saying stuff that you aren’t supposed to say, or call me something that I don’t like, I’ll continue to poke the daylights out of your eye (LOL).....Version: 5.0.7

Didn’t want to like Carrot-but how could I not?I like to experience weather matter-of-factly. I find this a crucial component of checking weather when I’m scouting out best times in the year to vacation somewhere. My husband suggested I use Carrot to add some “flair” to my weather searches....I found this confusing mostly because...I don’t like change and was used to the layout on another “reliable” weather app that I won’t use by name......(the app rhymes with “Feather Flannel”), and lastly when my husband is right about something, a circuit shorts somewhere deep inside my body which gives me the overwhelming need to revolt. And besides, what could Carrot do to add “flair” to my weather check-in while in Hawaii for sunny days to stay and lay by the pool, or what day I should schedule my trip to the local outdoor mall? The first time Carrot Told me she hoped I was impaled by flying debris on a windy day at home though, I fell in love.......AND she’s ALWAYS ACCURATE....needless to say, I deleted the “Feather Flannel” app and spend my time with Carrot. Daily. ♥️♥️♥️.Version: 5.4

Fun Weather App, but daily Mission staff needs a lesson in Geography.I’ve always found Carrot to be an entertaining way to track the weather. Their ‘Premium’ membership is a bit excessive in price, compared to their competition. (I’m Grandfathered in at a level between basic & Premium. One feature that I’ve always enjoyed, is their “daily mission” (if you consider daily to mean a half dozen new locations added every few months), but the latest update has a major error in Geographic basics. One Mission asks you to find the highest Mountain on the Continent that Cradled Civilization. Mesopotamia, has been considered the “Cradle of Civilization” for as far back as I can recall. I am not aware of any scientific discoveries, that would change it. (Nor found any via Google search). Mesopotamia was located in modern Day Iraq. Iraq is on the Asian Continent, but whoever input this mission, seems to think that it is in Africa. The correct answer should be Mount Everest. I’ll not divulge what Carrot matches up against as the “correct” answer, but it isn’t that difficult to fact check Geographical questions. “Come on Man!”.Version: 5.6.4

Awesome appI'm kind of a weather nerd and have four or five basic weather apps (and 2 dozen more specialized ones) on my phone! Carrots' built-in AI tends to give me a smile or a laugh when it tells me something about the weather, usually with a dark or NSFW language choice! The functionality of the app is comparable to all the other apps I use, and I don't have anything bad I could say about it. I enjoy the daily game of “Find the place where this is”. Every night, they release a “quiz” of sorts. They task you with finding (on the map) the location of an item/place which they give you a basic hint on. Some are easy; some are QUITE a challenge. Finally, they have achievements for doing certain tasks, like being in an area with a fog warning or in one under an active fire watch. They are a lot of them and some need to be done multiple times to achieve them. Summary: Great weather app with some pleasant add-ons to entertain as it educates. Well worth getting!.Version: 5.9.1

Carrot is good but bad at the same timeLet’s just start with a CARROT you have to pay money every year friend and it’s not even that special to pay that money also, I think that care should have been not that expensive like I said, and that there is more better options that are free weather apps, then carrot. And when I got into talking with the voice chat option where you can talk with the artificial intelligence robot. When you chat with her, your messages run out and after you talk with her too much you have to pay one dollar for you to talk to her so that’s more money that you have to pay just to talk with someone. Also, I thought that this game was like really easy and nice and smooth like you get to the scary in exaggerating, and I really don’t think he receives five stars of reading this game. So it’s like the movie Megan. It’s this really nice robot/artificial intelligence, but then it becomes repeat, as you get to know it, same with carrot the artificial intelligence that you can talk to you I really don’t know what to say about this game I think like I said it is good for bed at the same time..Version: 5.12.1

I NEED more missions!!I love this app. Weather source options and quick switch weather source is great. The snark is real at full personality. I appreciate that Carrot offers a choice for political preference instead of just assuming that everyone has the same view on life and politics. The achievements are fun. The historical and pop culture mix is great. They keep the mind working. Also fun is the ability to choose what colors the radar map displays. Originally, I purchased Carrot because it was the best option (for me) for my Apple Watch. However, Carrot has become my go to weather app due to all the additional fun features. Whoever thought a weather app could be fun? I didn’t, but now I expect nothing less. Truly, the only reason this review is a 4 instead of a 5 is the lack of additions of new missions and charging to message Carrot after the first 5 messages. Maybe allow premium subscribers to submit suggestions for new missions? All in all, Carrot is informative, entertaining, and fun. Please, please, please add new missions!!.Version: 5.10.3

GREAT APP!Honestly, it’s a amazing app! There’s tons of missions to do and keeps you occupied! I also love when you first download the app it asks you how mean you want it to be! I chose mine to be the highest mean to me and it’s funny! And, when you get into the app, it shows a little sentence at the top! Which is why you choose the meanness! Me and my father like to take screenshots and share them because they make us laugh! Also, I LOVE doing the finding ones. It gives you a saying like “find a Grand Canyon” and you’ll have to look on the map and find it! All you do is search for the location and tap you screen to ‘scan it’ and if you find the location it gives you a check! The only thing I don’t like is that you have to wait for the next. Which, you have to wait till midnight! Ugh! And, of course, it shows the weather… I only use it for the missions! But, I still check the weather time to time😆Overall, it’s an amazing app 100% recommend!.Version: 5.8.3

A weather app like no otherForget and set aside your previous expectations of what a quality weather app may be. Carrot Weather app is unique in itself, and for good reason! Yes, this application provides accurate forecasting as well as live weather updates upon request. But this app is so, so much more. This application and it’s humorous User-Interface reset the paradigm of weather-notification apps - bringing with it a level of immersion never seen before. Carrot weather app is accurate, but moreso ever notification pushed to you will at least have you smirking in its comedy. I am constantly checking this weather app, not because I wish to know what the current state of weather is like (honestly I’ve never done this before), but just to see what tongue-in-cheek joke awaits me today. If you want a weather app, this app is for you. And if you just want an app to make you smile from time to time (while also giving you accurate weather data live) then this app is also for you..Version: 4.6.2

Just WeirdI had initially rated this as a two-star app (my previous review is below), but bumped this up to five stars. The developer has added a professional "personality," and the app has a lot more functionality and polish since my last review. Thanks for listening to requests and making the app better! Original review: This app ranks highly as one of the best for weather. The reviews are also superb. After paying $5 to download, you’re then immediately smacked with a multi-tiered, recurring fee in order to do fairly rudimentary things. The tiers are more complicated than they should be. IMO, this app should be free to download, then a single $1.50-$3.00/mo recurring fee to get pro features. As it stands now, it’s just dangling a carrot (pun intended) to get you to the next pay tier. Which is just gross. The commentary, which is manageable, is weird as are the “missions.” Developer needs to just cut the garbage and focus on weather. Or be a snarky game. Not both..Version: 5.8.3

THE APPLE WATCH APP IS NOW PERFECT!I have been using Carrot for years. The app was always great (I gave it 4 stars in a prior review), but the Apple Watch standalone app developed some issues re location. For example, if you changed location the Watch app might show you the right temperature but not the correct city name. The Watch app also wouldn’t change city automatically you were using location services. For those of us that don’t like being tethered to the phone as much, it made the experience a little less than optimal. Imagine my surprise a few weeks ago when I was driving (with location services on) and the location AND temperature updated automatically on my Watch! I opened the Watch app and saw that the entire Watch interface had been REDESIGNED! It’s beautiful and works perfectly. The issues had been fixed. I’m very grateful to the developer for not simply remedying but doing so in a first class way..Version: 5.12.9

5.oh no... but, actually... <3At first I was skeptical of the 5.0 changes, but with the interface options and unlocked interface-maker changes I’m warming up to it with each passing day. I like that you can customize the type of forecast temp charts (vertical, horizontal, or boring list), very helpful for those who like visual representations of conditions at a glance rather than dry high/low°. I also like that you can adjust the chart heights from the default way to large all the way to ‘small.” Basically every element has more information via 3D/Haptic Touch, most data grids can be customized with more or less info. For longtime fans of Carrot Weather you may find new things to love with a little tinkering. Widget options are a bit limited for the non-premium or legacy-premium crowd, but you’re free to have as many weather apps on your iOS device as storage will allow, so go wild and install a few. Or, you know, feed the carrot a few measly dollars a month meatbag!.Version: 5.0.4

Very Cool App!I have only been using Carrot for several weeks and find that it is 1) A great weather app & 2) An even better educational and entertainment app!! Do not misunderstand, the weather prognostication and function is the best I’ve ever seen having seen at least several (and transitioning from Dark Sky to Carrot). I’m simply saying that, for me, it seems like every time I use the Carrot app (5 to 10 times per day) I have this urge to go “look something up”. What the heck is “wet-bulb anyway - lol. It seems like a day has not gone by when the app entices me to learn something new about geography, astronomy (mainly the moon and general earth & solar impacts on our lives, and yes of course - the weather). Notice I have not even mentioned anything yet about the adventures, arguments, notifications, and just all out enjoyment I get out of the app. I paid for the family premium and will do so again. 5 star app no question! Matt.Version: 5.9.1

Surprised at what you get for $4.99This app is executed very well. It’s extremely well done; the graphics are great, and the app works perfectly. Unfortunately, I paid $4.99 for the app and then found that most of the features I wanted require a subscription. To be fair, the App Store description does tell you what things require an in-app purchase - so it is partially my fault for not reading through the App Store details before purchase. With that said, I was still disappointed to find that most of the features I wanted required a paid subscription (referred to as a “tier”). For example, the Carrot widgets that are included with the app purchase give you no more capability than Apple’s built in weather widget. If you want a widget with a weekly outlook, it requires a tier 1 subscription. I was also surprised that weather notifications required a tier subscription. To be clear, Carrot is not hiding what is included with the app and what requires a subscription, but you need to read through the App Store description in DETAIL, or you may be surprised. For a $4.99 app, I expected much more..Version: 4.16.3

Better than Dark SkyI have been using carrot for over a year, and it’s by far the best weather app I’ve ever used. I’ve used a lot of different weather apps, including dark sky (which was my previous favorite), and can say that this app is superior. I do pay for the premium version but it’s totally worth it. You can customize every aspect of the UI, from the type of information displayed, fount type, app logo and very other aspect of what’s displayed. The dark humor that the app displays catches you off guard and leaves you laughing out loud, and is also surprisingly up to date on the stuff it makes jokes about. While the maps are a little more tedious that that on dark sky, the ability to choose a source for weather information, and the sheer customizability of the app and widgets itself make this app well worth the download and if your like me, the paid version as well..Version: 5.6.4

Makes daily task of checking the weather FUN!I just started using about a week ago ( tardy to the party, I know)— and it never fails to make me chuckle. CarrotWeather turns the mundane task of checking the forecast into a delightful little entertainment break. I even noticed that it has positively reframed my position on “bad” weather bc bad weather = higher scores / achievements unlocked etc— as it “game-ifies” extreme temps, heat index, days without rain, &c. I find myself weirdly hoping that the veritable inferno I’m melting in will get… worse? Even hotter? As that would increase my scores. Gosh, they should game-ify all the mundane things…. Like, “CarrotTurboTax”? Just saying… ALSO- Snarky humor appreciated One last thing: format handsomely/sleekly manages to display more relevant data/info than standard weather apps— yet doesn’t seem cluttered, visually easy to digest. Kudos to the strange and wonderful developers of this app, whomever you are!.Version: 5.7.1

Added a few stars. February 2021 update fixes this app.It took too long, but the developer finally made this app reasonably customizable so that it can show everything I want to see on a single screen: current conditions, 24 hour multi our forecast, multi day forecast. …and nothing I don’t want to see! Bravo. Previous, grumpier review is below. ———- There’s nothing quite like spending five dollars on a weather app only to find that you have to pay monthly or annually for expected features. Forever. There are THREE premium paid tiers, all of this mind you on top of the five dollars you just paid for the weather app. Go gamification of weather! Go in-app purchases! (Go sarcasm) I am misled and unimpressed. Wish I could customize this thing more. But most of the free customization centers around controlling the amount of snark. UI customization would be better..Version: 5.2.1

Awesome AppThe design is beautiful, the app on iPhone X in particular really shines. I love the way the graph visualizes temp and precipitation. The snarky robot concept is funny and the ability to fine tune it’s personality and politics is ingenious. The ability to look backwards in time at weather is also something I’ve always wanted from a weather app. There are a lot of other little touches that you should discover yourself. A couple of things that could be better are the tiny font on the widget (which I use daily to quickly check weather at a glance). It’s really, really tiny. Almost unreadable. Precipitation notifications are pretty clunky too and have to be pushed from the mac app ($). There is also a subscription for access to a few extras including watch complication customization, which is a little annoying after paying 5 bucks. Overall, spectacular app for something as simple as weather. Lots of great features, personality, amazing design, and updates..Version: 4.5

No Air Quality Map LayerUpdated: disappointed to see that Carrot weather app doesn’t have a map layer for air quality. Carrot has almost everything you need. It has been my go to weather app for years now, which is why I have been an Ultra Subscriber for years now. But as air quality in many parts of the US have become pretty bad for various reasons, I was surprised to see that the app doesn’t have a map layer to view air quality. Not sure if Apple allows you to use their map API but they have integrated this into their weather app since their acquisition of Dark Sky. Would be great if Carrot Weather could adopt this feature or get create their own. When you take a screen shot in maps mode and save to your phone, there is an ugly white banner at the bottom of the screen where it looks like more map real estate should be in place of that banner. Or move the carrot weather logo down a bit to cover that white banner. Otherwise, great work on the app!.Version: 5.11.2

Best basic weather app out thereThis is the best basic weather app for those who just want to know the forecast for today and the near future. Minimal improvements One thing I think would be a big help for my experience is a rooting of the scale on the 7-day forecast viewing. It feels difficult to compare things like the temperature or wind from day to day, as the scaling of the Y-axis changes each day to match each individual day’s high and low mark. I wish, instead of that, that the Y-axis would fit for the whole week’s high and low marks, that way I don’t have to check the scale for each day, and can very easily see the difference between a windy and not windy days just by seeing the graph shift visually. Other than that, I can’t think of anything else that would be a good improvement for the app. So, overall, it’s really good..Version: 5.9.2

Super Good Weather AppAs someone who rarely buys premium, I did dig out my debit card for this app and bought a year of Ultra. I love the humor in the forecasts and the widget functionality so I can see everything from my Home Screen on the first page. The one downside I did see was that while they have push notifications for Warnings such as tornado warnings, flood warnings, etc etc, they don’t have Watch alerts. As someone who lives in Oklahoma, we rely heavily on Tornado Watches to know when to get weather aware for the day because a tornado warning is far too late to be notified of an impending house ruiner tunnel descending from the sky. Tornado Warning means someone’s already seen the tornado around these parts. A Tornado Watch means we need to be looking for descention in the clouds. If that functionality could be added to the app, it would for sure he 5 stars from me..Version: 5.1.1

Pretty nice, but...After looking for a powerful, accurate, and stylish weather app for years, I thought my search had finally come to an end when I found Carrot. While it is certainly all of those things, with an added layer of snarky charm to boot, it’s also another thing: expensive. $5 is a rather high price to ask for a weather app, but I figured it would be more than worth it for all the countless hours of use I’d receive in return, what I didn’t expect is that this weather app asks requires a monthly/yearly fee to access most of its features. I’ve seen apps that cost money to buy, and I’ve seen apps that have subscription fees, but it’s rare to see one that asks for both, let alone a weather app. One of the main reasons I purchased Carrot was to use the widget, but that, along with other important features like notifications, are locked behind the second paywall. There are plenty of other weather apps that require no such payment, and I will be using one of them instead..Version: 4.16.1

THANK THE CARROTS!!Okay let me be clear, the personalities are literally so amazing. I use the overkill one because omg its literally so funny when carrot roasts me. Best thing? You don’t even need money to continue. It gives you the basic weather updates and the schedules like any other weather app does, but with the best humor. I love the achievements so much and even when carrot makes fun of my face istg the app is so much better then any other app. I use carrot for fun, and it definitely needs to be more recognized. But I just use the normal weather app because it has everything that you need there, but carrot is super helpful to me too. My conclusion? Carrot is an amazing app, and a very funny one too. But if you just need access to quick information use a different weather app. Maybe I’ve gotten too use to weather, it’s hard to adjust to carrot. But omg I LOVE this app!! Basically my ideal weather “robot”. THANK YOU CARROT!!! 🥕 ❤️.Version: 5.11.2

Cards against humanity & a weather app walk into a bar...If the Carrot weather app’s ocular sensor was single, I’d say I found my perfect match. Where i live, tornado watches , and warnings are very common through out the year. They close the entire city at the threat of snow. Due to the history of deadly tornados here, the weather stations here tend to go way over board if it even mist rain. Carrot not only gives me an accurate, up to date weather forecast with the beautiful DarkSky powering its ocular sensor- including any warnings for my location- it does so in the best possible way. It calls me a meat bag ,it cuts out my mortal enemies hearts and mails it to me in the post. It gives me funny animation and creative insults that have yet to fail at making me stop for a second and laugh daily. Carrot is my dream weather app. It's like the weather played cards against humanity and won..Version: 5.11.2

A weather app… and so much more…I downloaded the app and decided to do the free trial to see if I wanted to pay for the subscription. I knew immediately that the answer was “yes! Yes! Take my money, now!” If you want a plain old typical weather app, that’s fine; don’t bother paying money for a subscription for Carrot. BUT, if you want a weather app that will sass you and make snarky comments, one you can build a relationship with, one where you can have daily entertainment in trying to find secret locations, and an app that is highly customizable, this is what you need. Carrot adds so much fun to the otherwise blah activity of checking the weather. You can customize her commentary so you can either get harmless, mildly snarky comments or cussing and more over-the-top insults. You can also build a relationship with her (and let me assure you, once you fill those last hearts, it just gets better) and find secret locations daily on the map. Special bonus fun with the achievements you can earn. Some of them are quite entertaining. So, long story short, if you want to add some fun to your day and have a relationship with your weather app, you’re in the right place. If you don’t want any of that interesting stuff, feel free to move along to the next weather app..Version: 5.9.6

I love carrotI love carrot, I really do. She’s fun, keeps me engaged -more than any weather app ever- with her missions, achievements etc & most importantly, she’s accurate. She’s quite accurate & I love that I can connect her to my personal weather stations for even more accuracy - BUT… Lately the “forecast” side of the radar map doesn’t work. I used to switch between radar & forecast when a storm was actively beating down on me so I could see where the storm was predicted to go. I’d use it on the days my son was scheduled to work to see if he’d encounter rain (bc he bikes to work). But sadly it no longer works. There can be an active storm & the forecast side of the radar shows nothing currently or for however long I have it set to show. I’ve even changed the amount of time from a very short one to an extended one. It doesn’t change. So, I’d love to give my girl 5 stars, or even more really, but with a part of her, a part that I heavily relied on, no longer working, I cannot..Version: 5.11.2

Love app but too expensive to buy any frills!Have only had the Carrot app and been using it for 3 days. So far I like it, it’s easy to navigate and the greetings are freaking hilarious, however the basic app purchase only gives you “the bare basics”. To even receive any weather WARNINGS for your area - sorry folks yada-yada-yada, it’s going to cost your pocketbooks upwards of up to $100* plus tax, and a yearly membership. *based on the $9.99 per month Tier 3 account. Sure, there’s a mid-range Tier 2 model with a few bells and a few whistles, but I just refuse to believe the App Developer’s responses you other people’s reviews that “it’s expensive for server upkeep”. I’ve purchased several apps, over the last 10 years and once I purchased those apps, then all the app access is available for use, not cherry-picking the fun bits and charging monthly/yearly subscription fees for. I’ll gladly keep using Carrot, but I’ll keep my Weather Channel app for my warning alerts..Version: 4.14

The best weather app around!I love this app so much! It’s clean, efficient, and gives you data that most weather apps hide. For a small fee of $15 a year I get constantly live data pushed to my apple watch. This is incredibly important to me because of how much I travel and because my business is effected by the weather greatly. The snarky overkill remarks brighten my day and give a good laugh. The developer goes above and beyond to bring you one of the greatest weather apps in the entire universe. So much so, I tipped the developer and will do again if the app continues to improve. Think of it as one of your onlyfans subscriptions but instead of hot nudes you get hot weather info pushed to your phone instantly! Now thinking of that just get me started. It’s really an explosion of information and customization in a complete package. Grab your tissues and socks cause you’ll need them..Version: 5.0.5

Overview of this AppI’m gonna first start off by saying that I really love this app. There’s so many amazing features on here. I signed up to be a beta tester for this app before it even hit the App Store. Everything from being able to customize the app logo, weather cards, etc. This app is by far the best weather app I’ve ever used and I don’t think I’ll ever use another one again. The only issues I’ve got with this app is the Personality part. I love the fact that once you turn the slider all the way to the right, this app starts becoming really vulgar. My problem is that I’ve got it set to “Overkill.” I feel like it’s not as vulgar as it should be. I’m still seeing stupid quotes like “Jesus Tap Dancing Christ, it’s sunny out.” I want it to say things like, “Today is the perfect day to kill yourself. It’s bright and sunny.” Or maybe “Doesn’t this rainy, gloomy day make you wanna hang yourself in the closet?” Things like that would be funny to me because that’s the kind of dark humor i have. I’d actually tip if it said things like that to me. The only other issue I’ve got is the fact that this app now has ChatGPT. But the thing is that it’s $0.99 for every five messages. Snapchat has ChatGPT and it’s completely free. You don’t have to pay for every five messages. These issues are the ONLY reason I’m giving this app “4 stars.”.Version: 5.12.9

V5.0.2 lets you restore paid widget functionality – not sure about updated UII did originally try the “Restore” feature at v5.0 launch, but it didn’t fully recognize me as a paid user of the previous paid version. I wouldn’t have thought to try it again until I read a developer response to another review – going thru the “Restore” ceremony again under v5.0.2 finally worked, allowing me to use widgets and other paid features again. I’m still on the fence about the UI changes – first impression is that it’s less useful than before, and the app takes noticeably longer to show me weather info. (I think it’s a mistake to reduce the default forecast to the next 24 hours – most people aren’t going to play with the customization options to get the 72 hour forecast option back, so that first impression of “less useful” will stick with them.) So far I do like the updated widget look. I miss the fanciful scrolling scenery above the forecast data..Version: 5.0.2

Really in love with this appI never thought looking up for the weather could be so entertaining. Definitively worth paying for.Version: 4.1.2

The bestFinally, a good weather app + very fun. You Will look forward to check the weather..Version: 4.1.2

Subscription ethicsBought the app, widgets enabled. Latest update now requires monthly subscription after buying the app to enable widgets. Daylight robbery..Version: 5.0.2

Wonderful, but could be betterHi, not sure if it is just me, the app won’t refresh it’s current state when I look at my watch. The temperature stays the same as I refreshed few hours ago. So it will be perfect if you guys can implement that. Thank you Other than that, everything else are amazing..Version: 4.10

Overall great app - annoying it bugs me for tips constantly…After subscribing to an annual subscription, which is is already expensive for a weather app, it’s super annoying to be constantly bugged for tips when I open the app. Annoying enough that I’m ready to just cut ties with it and go back to the standard iOS weather app and cut my losses on the subscription..Version: 5.9.3
