*** Planning to go bird watching in Ecuador? Then this is the app for you. This app fills a gap in the region and is the only app available for Ecuador! It is based on renowned reference work of the Helm Guide Series "Birds of Northern South America" by Robin Restall, Clemencia Rodner, and Miguel Lentino. The creation of apps from the book is a co-production between Bloomsbury Plc and Sunbird Images. The app contains 5,000 illustrations and more than 3,000 bird songs and calls in total.

>> Neotropical Birding Magazine writes:

*** "Condensing Restall’s two-volume work into an app, while remaining usable, is no mean feat - and Sunbird Images deserve recognition
for successfully doing so. Navigation is admirably straightforward." ***

*** "Two nice touches are displaying the sonogram in ‘real time’ with the vocalisation, and a ‘loop’ facility to make playback more manageable." ***

*** "The app is self-evidently the equal of Restall et al. as an identification tool, and a smartphone is so much more portable than a field guide. Moreover, the in-built vocalisations are arguably worth the purchase price alone..." ***

This app is part of the Sunbird Images BLUE LABEL series. Our BLUE LABEL series are top notch digital field guides which provide the most comprehensive data available for a region or taxon. Ecuador is a prime birding spot and a country of extremes. It covers altitudes between coastal regions up to heights of more than 6,000 m and habitats that include coasts with beaches, Desert Woodland and Arid Scrub, Páramo, Temperate as well as Subtropical Montane Forest (Cloud Forest/ Elfin Woodland), the Amazon Rainforest in particular, Swamps and Mangroves. Ecuador has the largest biodiversity per square kilometre in the world, with an unlimited number of possibilities for birding.

Choose between 6 bird name languages:
English, Latin, Spanish, French, Dutch, German

Narrow species down by foot colour, bill shape, tail length etc. leading to the bird searched for plus a choice of similar species. You can also look for fragments of a species name – the search for “finch“ shows all the species which include the word “finch“ in the species’ name.

***A graphically well-designed layout – easy to use with large lettering.***

"All Birds Ecuador" is very well suited for keeping personalised bird watch lists.

The app will be continuously developed further. All updates are free of charge. Once downloaded no internet connection needed – just download the app and start birding!

All Birds Ecuador field guide App Comments & Reviews

All Birds Ecuador field guide Positive Reviews

First impressionsSo far I’ve only used this app to familiarize myself with the species and test identifying birds using the app and eBird’s photo quiz. Seems to work fairly well especially if you know the family of the bird you are trying to identify. The key that allows you to select features of the bird to then give you the most probable species as a percentage match does give an excessively long list including 1152 species rather than eliminate species from the list. The app does a really nice job of highlighting vagrants and endemic species including toggles in settings to not show or only show those..Version: 2.1

Best birding app and field guide!Amazing app for novice and veteran birders looking to learn everything about all the Ecuadorian species or who are taking a trip to Ecuador. The app is terrific and very accurate. It features high quality drawings of bird species and numerous details to help you narrow down and learn about a type of bird, including habitat, range, and nesting information. The most useful features to me are the range maps to find nearby birds, the audio recordings that let you hear the voices of all the birds (amazing quality; it makes you feel like you’re right there), and the “Suggest similars” function that lists birds comparable bird species to help you quickly identify the right bird. I had been searching for an app that would allow me to track and identify bird species from my phone, and this one is the best I’ve found so far. It’s incredibly more advanced than the digital versions of paper field guides I use on my trip and so, so much more useful than most bare-bone field guides apps that are out there. Love it and highly recommend!.Version: 1.6

Birds of EcuadorIn my mind this is the best birding App I have ever used. This App will become the template for all future birding Apps. The ease of use is outstanding. Thumbing through a guidebook, looking for a particular family, can be daunting, especially in the necessarily large guidebooks for Ecuador. The groupings in this App are so easy to follow, enabling one to quickly find the bird or similar birds. The features are too numerous to mention but the birdsongs are superb and the manner in which you record sightings is terrific. I have only one small suggestion, which could be included in an update. I would like to be able to go to each grouping and highlight the birds I hope to see, maybe based on previous trip lists. This would further narrow the field in the identification process. As far as I can tell, I cannot do this. If the App does allow me to do this, I haven't figured it out yet. I can't wait to use this App. I typically prefer guidebooks, but this will be my go-to source in Ecuador..Version: 1.6

Beats Carrying a BookIllustrations and audio are good and the comparison feature is isn’t as good as Audubon’s but it’s nice enough. Very lacking on adding your observations unless you do it right in the field, which is often impractical. You have to go into the map application each and every time you want to add a bird to a list. Once you start a list, why not have a feature to add a sighting to it with the same date and location? Otherwise, what’s the point of giving a list a title? I obviously won’t be using it to keep track of my sightings on my upcoming trip, which was the main reason I forked over $25 for it - but it beats lugging a field guide around..Version: 2.1

A fully functional field guideThis guide is the real deal. All the birds, with instantly playable songs for almost all. It's very useful to be able to verify birds by voice, even if you can't learn enough songs to immediately identify what's around you. The one thing I would change is to have the ability to see similar birds side by side, like we are familiar with in traditional field guides. It can be difficult to narrow down a birds ID when there is sometimes a LONG list of possibilities in alphabetical order. I have NEVER spent more than a dollar on an app, but this was money well spent!.Version: 1.6

Missing Common Pauraque and moreJust realized this app is missing common pauraque (Nyctidromus albicollis andfoothills screech owl (megascops roraimae) just off of a first glance. I am certain there are more. In general the app is wonderful and fairly useful in the field. Most birds have songs which is great! I find it pretty intuitive to use quickly. Similar to my Sibley app..Version: 2.1

For True Bird LoversI don’t know much about birds, but this app demonstrates that there are way more species than I ever knew. Learning that there are more than just the average blue jays is really impressive. A cool feature, if you’re bird watching you can record specific birds that you see, include the date/time, location and personal notes. If your goal is to find as many different types of birds, this app would be great to use..Version: 1.6

Great to use in the field! All of the illustrations are beautifully rendered, and the “similar species” button is really helpful when confirming identification. I’m so glad I had this on my recent trip, and I loved being able to make daily lists to track my sightings. The recorded calls and songs were also very helpful!.Version: 2.1

Excellent AppBecause of the cost, I was initially hesitant to purchase this app prior to my trip to the Galapagos, but I'm sure glad I did! The interface makes it super easy to narrow down and find birds given the vast number of species that call Ecuador home. I'm hooked exploring this app and know that it will be indispensable during my trip. Awesome!.Version: 1.6

First impression is very promisingJust downloaded the app, and it looks aesthetically pleasing as soon as you open it. The groupings are very helpful and as you drill down, the flow appears to be logical and as you’d expect. Can’t wait to put it to use next week when in Ecuador.Version: 2.1

Great layout!I haven’t taken the app into the field yet, but my first impression is very favorable. It is laid out in a way that is very easy to use, and the sound recordings are a valuable feature that you can’t get in a printed field guide. The checklist feature is really nice too..Version: 2.1

Sound sometimes doesn’t work. Please fix the bug that causes the bird calls not to play out loud. The app shows the line moving across the digital display of the call, but there is no sound. This app is otherwise magnificent. Congratulations for designing such a useful beautiful app..Version: 1.7

Nice addition to my other Ecuadorian field guidesI can use this app in the field for a broader catalogue of calls/songs than just Merlín. It’s also a good quick reference (easy to use and easy to find the bird you’re looking for)..Version: 2.1

Birds of EcuadorThis company makes great apps for birdwatchers! We really appreciate the bird call options for each bird. This really makes it a lot easier to study before our travels..Version: 1.6

Very good app!I purchased this app before going on a trip to Ecuador. This is a very good app for anyone that is going to Northern South America. I was going to use a bird book but I'm glad I purchased this! Always with me and only a fraction of the size, weight, and cost of the book! Thank you!.Version: 1.6

Excellent app for EcuadorHeading to Ecuador in a few weeks and wanted an app to bring along in the field instead of lugging a book around. The app is very well organized and easy to navigate..Version: 2.1

Amazing!I've learned so much about the birds of Ecuador from this app. Watching birds is amazing all on it's own but knowing what you're looking at is truly remarkable. The app is clear, organized, and user friendly. Definitely worth buying!!.Version: 1.6

So useful!Great to not carry a book around on our Ecuador travels! The pictures are great and I love being able to have the bird songs as well. Definitely recommend if you are planning a birding adventure in Ecuador!.Version: 1.6

Very good for audio! This app is extremely good for audio; it has sounds for almost every single species. Otherwise it is a straightforward, simple to use field guide app that functions exactly how it needs to..Version: 1.6

Upcoming TripI purchased this app to prepare for an upcoming trip. The app is well organized and easy to navigate. The sounds are extensive. Now it time to study!.Version: 2.1

As good as it getsI use this app as a tool for learning the birds by ear. I used their Trinidad and Tobago app before my trip to Ada Wright and significantly increased my ability to identify birds while there. I expect the same in Ecuador..Version: 2.1

Ecuador appJust started but seems very easy to search and has great detailed information..Version: 2.1

WonderfulThis app is very informational and educational. It includes information and facts about birds located in South America and that's very cool. The app is also easy to use and navigate through. Great for all ages!.Version: 1.6

Nebirds! This app is great and has been super helpful while traveling all through out Ecuador and Colombia!.Version: 2.1

Leave the heavy field guide at home! This app has the info and images you need to enjoy your Ecuador trip. Rock solid implementation..Version: 2.1

User Friendly!!!!!This app is amazing. The user-friendly interface makes it one of the most useful of the birding apps currently available!!!! I appreciate the fact that it shows me almost every species found in Ecuador! This also provides quality full sized color illustrations. Search by beak details, feather details, shape, size, color, and length, wing shape and more. While other bird field guides for the iPhone are certainly useful, this one is unique and deserves consideration by any serious birder!.Version: 1.6

MrGreat app! Very complete. Much better than any book as it provides many ways to find a specie quickly. Tons of very useful features like compare, sighting, songs and calls, maps, gps coordinates where seen, etc... Love this app..Version: 1.6

Too slowJust used this app in Ecuador for a few days. Very slow in unnecessary ways. All steps take a few seconds to execute for no apparent reasons. Good information available for the very patient users. Needs to be more efficient..Version: 1.9

Grand PanjandrumGood app. Lots of good pictures, though more would be welcome. Great for studying birds before the trip. And for checking photos of birds for ID. Needs pictures of flying raptors - most times that's all you see. Maps seem a bit crude, but I found them very helpful, especially the subspecies info. Most frustrating problem - when you close the iPad or it goes to sleep, the app defaults to the home page. This made the app very difficult to use in the field when you want to move between binocs and field guide..Version: 1.6
